hi hi ! hope everything is going great for you 😊 im tryna find a fc — or at least um just a stand in with resources not gif icons but gif sets pictures etc <- not sure if that makes sense — that’s a black woman ( preferably dark skin but most definitely not mixed ). the age range i had was mid 20s to late early 30s. shes got big older sister energy and considered to be an it girl. if it helps i had jodie turner smith and lupita in mind but they’re a bit older than i was looking for. thank you !

October 2023 Reading Review
Pretty good reading month! Posting this a bit later than usual because I was in [REDACTED] and didn’t have consistent Internet access.
At Night All Blood Is Black, David Diop (trans. Anna Moschovakis): Good prose, talks about an area of history that deserves more examination (Senegalese soldiers fighting for the French in WWI), but overall not developed enough to be memorable.
Life Ceremony, Sayaka Murata (trans. Ginny Tapley Takemori): I have now read all three of the Murata books translated into English and this chick is fucking crazy. Unhinged. I love her.
Carmilla, Sheridan Le Fanu: Really fun and more explicitly lesbian than expected. Somewhat suffers the Shakespearean syndrome of feeling cliche because it invented those cliches. I wish I could find a copy of the edition edited by Carmen Maria Machado.
Flux, Jinwoo Chong: “Needs more revisions” debut novel syndrome, but the narrative structure, premise, and intertwining of storylines are all quite compelling. We really didn’t need the tech startup subplot.
Our Share of Night, Mariana Enriquez (trans. Megan McDowell): Did not think she was going to surpass The Dangers of Smoking in Bed, but she catapulted over it and went straight to Iconic Horror Reads of All Time territory. One of my best 2023 reads for sure.
Meander, Spiral, Explode: Design and Pattern in Narrative, Jane Alison: The literary analysis isn’t particularly revelatory beyond “Aristotle’s thoughts on plot were very limited and we have more options than Freytag’s triangle” (I also recommend Craft in the Real World if you’re interested in this sort of stuff), but I like her choice of examples—many books to add to my TBR!—and it’s overall a fun, accessible read.
Brainwyrms, Alison Rumfitt: Also an Iconic Horror Read. Rumfitt is one of the most grotesque, graphic writers I’ve ever read (seriously, look at the cover(s) for this book) and she is NOT afraid of writing Unhinged Queers.
Detransition, Baby, Torrey Peters: I can’t be concise about my criticisms of this book, so I will just say that (1) I get why people like this book, it was a really fun read, but (2) the dialogue reads like the characters are constantly in couples counseling and it’s exhausting and (3) I am simply not that into domestic drama.
Bang Bang Bodhisattva, Aubrey Wood: More debut novel syndrome (maybe I need to cut back on contemporary debut novels). A fun queer cyberpunk noir mystery, but the solution is lazily written and the dialogue and characters aren’t very memorable.
