you, who's dragon and his are mated. and losing him and deigh nearly cost you both your lives, too.

the second you step through the threshold of the riorson house, the bond that's left a gaping wound in your heart in its absence seems to ignite, clicking back into place in your head.

you can feel him.

your heart leaps into your throat; xaden winces when you turn on your heel to watch him, panic etched into every crevice of your expression.

"where is he?" you're quiet, brows pushing a crease into your forehead when xaden reaches for your hands, holding you steady. your whole body thrums with nervous energy.

"i need you to understand that i couldn't tell you. for both of your safety-" he starts.

"xaden, i don't care," you cut him short with a scathing glare. "where is he?"

you ground yourself, focusing every ounce of energy into the newly reinstated bond; you imagine reaching through the tether that runs between the two of you, and you speak through it.

"liam?"

his voice fills your ears, deep and gravelly but unmistakably him, and tears crowd your vision, catching on your itching waterline.

"hi, my girl."

you rush to turn the corner down to the vast hallway, and a disheveled mop of blond you're all too familiar with draws your gaze.

you're frozen, muscles locked tight where you stand, fixated by the sight of the boy you've been grieving, aching for, standing just a few feet away.

his arms outstretch and he takes a step towards you, and you break. a sob seizes you, arms curling around yourself in some semblance of self soothing.

"come here," he croaks. "c'mere, baby."

you rush in a surge of frenzied limbs, colliding with his chest with an audible thump; he stumbles back a step, but plants himself to accommodate you clinging, white-knuckled, to his midriff.

the way you squeeze him makes his heart ache, the guilt of hiding from you slapping him in the face full force. your balmy cheek rubs against his shoulder, nose scrunching in the way he's always found terribly endearing- except the silent sobs that wrack your body contort your features, and you tremble under his touch.

"why would you do that?" you whisper, but even through the bite of your words, your iron grip never lets up. you're terrified that he'll disappear from beneath you. "it almost killed us, liam."

he pulls back to look at you and your chin plants against his chest to gaze up at him through heavy lashes, weighed down and kissing at the corners. his thumb catches a stray tear, brushing it across the length of your cheekbone before he leans down to press a kiss between your brows.

"i'm sorry," he murmurs. "i know i should've told you." his thick bicep wraps around the back of your neck, anchoring you to his chest.

"i kept tryin' to get her to eat and she wouldn't, li. and the bond was so weak. it nearly took us both down with you."

"shh, shh," he soothes. "i'm so sorry, my girl."

you slap feebly at his chest, no real force behind it as you sniffle, swollen eyes watching his every move.

"you ever do some shit like this again and i'll kill you myself, mairi."

dimples crater at the centre of his cheeks, his eyes crinkling when he laughs down at you, deep and earnest.

"i love you so much."

of course I can give more headcanons / canon info!!! I love rambling about the AU :) I don’t have many headcanons since I can just.. make them canon to the story 💀💀💀

We can start off with more plot centered stuff (? kinda) and then work into more minor details

- Their first meeting together was similar to Jake and Neytiri’s from the original Avatar movie except they both get attacked by viperwolves and get pretty injured in the process. They both have some permanent scars from it, most noticeably a scar on Will’s left hip/side (same location as in Stranger Things when he’s burnt by Nancy in S2, yk)

- Mike’s training took about 18 months and he failed a lot of the rites of passage the first time, but ended up learning and successfully completing them on the second try (ex: Ikran taming. He was thrown off a Cliff similarly to Lo’ak in the graphic novels)

- Mike ended up falling in love first, about 5 months into training. He got pretty depressed due to it because he fell in love with an alien, another species. So he has this guilt of being a human and using a false body pretty much every day in order to see Will. William ended up falling in love 4 or so months later. (I have a timeline.. I’ll put that as like the last thing on here)

- Will kept pushing back Mike’s Dream Hunt in fear that Mike would be killed in the process (its a really intense rite of passage and Na’vi have a chance of dying during it). But, Mike survived and everybody cheered!!!

- Their first kiss later that night (after his dream hunt) was really emotional for both of them, but more or less Mike (for reasons stated previously)

- They both sleep in hammocks together from time to time

- Will’s songcord has a lock of Mike’s hair and a heart shaped river stone that Mike found for 1: Tsaheylu / the bond they make, and 2: their confession / first kiss. Mike’s has a drop of Will’s blood in amber to represent their bond and a bead that Will carved for their confession

- Will’s ikran is yellow and blue/teal while Mike’s ikran is blue (although I haven’t really given them full designs)

- Mike has scars on his hands from carving gifts for Will

- After tsaheylu they end up getting a lot closer, like they weren’t already. They started getting more comfortable in Home Tree and people noticed.. so rumors spread that they mated (but they didn’t! they just created the bond).

- Will calls Mike a “skxawng” (moron in Na’vi), but Mike hits him back with the “But I’m your skxawng” ☹️

- They have a tendency to go out into the forest to do stuff together and hopefully not get killed by a Thanator while kissing or something idk. that would be a way to go 💀

Long story short the AU is very detailed and there’s too much information for me to fit into one post so ‼️

Now I can't sleep, i cannot stop thinking about Dorian and the Thirteen.

What are your headcannons about Dorian and the Thirteen interacting? How do you think he won them over?

For me, some people are more solidified but others are in limbo:

1. MANON. She LOOOOOVES him (even though she doesn't know it), and I'm pretty sure they both got teasing looks from the others (that Manon quickly got grumpy over/Dorian grinning back). They are forever mates and will get married and make beautiful babies and IDGAF what anyone says❤.

2. Asterin likes Dorian. HUGELY overprotective of Manon (duh! Like the rest of them). But she grew to like him (shown by her growling at Bronwyn when she grossly suggested that the thirteen were sharing Dorian sexually, and her trusting Dorian with Nyrene when he went to the Ferian Gap). His interactions with Manon probably reminded Asterin of her and her hunter 🥲.

3. Sorrel definitely grew to respect him (and maybe even like him) because after Dorian bested her at fighting ( which I am still convinced that she let him win/went easy on him), Sorrel gifted him with a knife 🥺

4. Vesta shamelessly flirted with him, so she had a crush on him (as we all do 😉). Manon was giving Vesta a stank face when she did flirt even though Manon said "she didn't know what the King of Adarlan was to her". I'm pretty sure she did that to get Manon to admit her feelings as part of a plot by the rest of the Thirteen😏.

5. Faline. I'm not sure....her and Fallon were massive pranksters so I'm pretty sure she pranked Dorian as an initiation. But this is speculative. 👀

6. Fallon (See Faline)👀

7. Edda. She and Briar kept to themselves, so I'm not sure...🤔

8. Briar (See Edda) 🤔

9. Thea. Her and Kaya were in LOOOVE therefore, they (and Asterin and maybe someone else (you'd never know who else was keeping secrets from Manon)) could appreciate that Dorian loved Manon. So they didn't hate him, obvi. 😌

10. Kaya (See Thea)😌

11. Lin. She barely tolerated Dorian. She was looking like she wanted to examine his insides.....😨

12. Ghislaine. She and Dorian probably bonded over BOOKS. They probably talked the most (excluding Manon). Dorian was vastly magically talented, and Ghislaine studied University in Terassen for 12 years with a specialisation in magic, so Dorian satisfied Ghislaine's curiosity and Ghislaine educated and gave guidance to Dorian in his training. Again, this is speculative 📚

13. Imogen. She kept to herself. She's probably really protective over the entire group (manon especially) but I don't think her and Dorian really interacted....😶

I am 100% a Feysand shipper, but it is really interesting to write about Feyre and Azriel. Hope you like it. This is btw inspired by a scene from The Crown.

Feyzriel | Morning, Noon and Night

The High Lord’s power stretched out like a dark cloud, enveloping Feyre and Azriel, making their stomachs churn and twist.

“I demand an explanation from you!” Rhysand shouted, his voice bouncing of the wall and rumbling through the wall. The power that rang with it could shake the Illyrian mountains. 

Not for once had Azriel and Feyre believed that they could keep their relationship a secret–yet they had hoped. That hope had vanished just like every happy feeling they had once felt. Their betrayal became public. 

“Why do you this?” Rhysand growled and snapped his head into the direction of Azriel. He grabbed the shadowsinger by his arm, glowering into his eyes.

Azriel shoved the High Lord backwards, his features nothing but pure rage. “Because I care about her. Morning, noon and night I care about her. I love her with my whole heart and she does too.” Azriel’s shadows encircled him, crawling up their owner and forming something like a protective armor.

“You are just too blind to see it. With what you are saying you hurt her. And if you hurt here, if you hurt Feyre, you hurt me.”

Azriel pointed at his chest, right to the spot above his heart.

Rhysand closed his eyes, fighting against the rage burning inside him. The veins in his neck and on his forehead popped, his hands forming fists at his side.

“You are stealing my wife. You are stealing my mate, my High Lady and you dare speak about me hurting you!” the High Lord growled, shouting.

“It wasn’t his choice. Azriel is who I want. He is the one where my loyalties lie. I…The cauldron must have made a mistake.” Feyre stepped forward, leaving some distance between her and the shadowsinger to not enrage Rhysand anymore. 

“I am the father of your son—“ “Don’t bring Nyx into this!” Feyre��s voice trembled, her legs feeling wobbly. Azriel wanted to reach over, hold her, but through mind-to-mind talk Feyre stopped him. They couldn’t do this to Rhysand in that moment. 

“I am the male the Cauldron has chosen for you. I am the one you accepted the bond with. You fucking betrayed me. My brother and my mate. Was this what you meant when you said that the Cauldron made a mistake—that you deserved what his mine, Azriel?” the High Lord once again addressed Azriel, stepping forward and poking his index finger into the shadowsinger’s chest. 

“You cannot blame him. I am the one who chose him as well. I am the one who betrayed her husband, her mate. Don’t put all the blame on him, Rhysand.” The High Lord’s gaze snapped to his High Lady’s, tears brimming his eyes. His mouth opened and he shouted, shouted so loudly that the cutlery in the kitchen rattled. 

“Did you ever love me? Or was it all fake? Was it all fake from the first moment on? Every I love you? Every nice little thing you told me? Did you fake it all just so you could be close to him?” 

Power once again radiated from the fuming High Lord. Azriel sucked in a sharp breath, his own hands forming fists at his side. 

“I loved you, Rhysand. More than anything. I loved you for centuries, but I started falling out of love with you in the last decades. I am so sorry, I wish it had been different. I wish I could have—“ “Spare me with this bullshit,” Rhysand spat and slammed his hands over his face. A sob left him that made both Feyre and Azriel’s chests clench. 

“Rhys—“ “Don’t,” Rhysand said and lifted a hand. “Don't talk to me now. Don’t ever talk to me again. You two truly deserve each other. Leave, leave this place. Leave Velaris and leave me alone. I never want to see you again.” 

It was the last thing their two of them heard before black mist appeared and the High Lord was gone, vanished into thin air. 

It was then that Feyre let her tears run free, sobbing. Azriel wrapped her into his arms, held her till there were no tears left to cry. Her shoulders still shook when they started talking—talking about what they should do from now on.

“I love you so much, but you know what we have to do now,” Azriel whispered, his own shoulders, trembling.

Feyre dipped her chin and wiped a hand over her tear-streaked cheek. “I love you, Azriel.” “And I will come find you. I will find you again, Feyre. I will come for you. Please—“ Azriel’s voice broke, scarred, trembling fingers curling around Feyre’s wrists. He pulled the female to his chest and kissed her forehead. “Please wait for me.”

All of first. No, I am not interested in ship wars. As long as my dear sweet child spy Az ends up happy, idgaf who he ends up with, and will be happy if he ends up with either Gwyn or Elain, as long as both women get to have their own story told separate from Azriel.

But. I do think that Gwynriel is adorable, and have taken a preference to that ship over Elriel.

I mentioned in THIS post that I think it would be neat if we got a romance arc between Gwyn and Az that involved Gwyn wanting to take their relationship slow or focus on herself. I kinda wanted to just elaborate on that.

After seeing a tiktok (and a couple tumblr posts) about people being presumptuous with how they feel Gwyn will for sure feel about being in a relationship/having sex given her SA survivor status, I wanted to clear a couple things up, because my original wording is just vague enough to be a lil problematic.

I don’t want it to seem like I think Gwyn would respond to her assault any particular way. We simply don’t know enough about her to know exactly how she’d respond, and I agree that it’s problematic to assume. When I say that I think it would be cool for her to want to take the relationship slow, I mean the whole ass thing. Emotions too. She’s explicitly stated that she has a lot of trauma to work through outside of the SA. She has survivors guilt, self hatred issues, and doesn’t feel safe outside of the library (which, by the way, I hope we get an exploration of how traumatizing it must have been for Gwyn to be abducted the ONE TIME she decides to leave the library overnight).

We’ve had 2 romantic arcs that are entirely entwined with the respective heroines’ growth past trauma. I think it would be cool and different representation to show someone who says “Hey, I‘m in no shape to be tied to anyone right now. I care about you too much (and respect myself too much) to get into a relationship at this point in my recovery. Can we take this slow and be friends first?”

Not that you can’t be in a relationship if you’re not fully healed from trauma, but both of them have some pretty serious issues that *are* things that would block them from being able to love in a healthy way (ex. Self hatred, Gwyn not being able to live in the present, and Az not feeling worthy of love)

NOTE: I low key want this story to be more YA than NA (at least with regards to spice), to squeeze out a lot of angst from the story, and force the Horniest Bat Boy™ to analyze his feelings from a non-horny POV. Make him really think to himself “Is this lust, or love?” Not saying I don’t want sexual banter/tension, but it definitely for sure doesn‘t need to be Nessian level fae porn

I also think that she would bring up Mor and Elain (because of course this conversation happens AFTER the whole necklace comeuppance happens), and bring up that Az has his own shit to work through before trying to be in a healthy relationship.

“You haven’t been alone in 500 years. Not really. You pined after Morrigan for so long, carried a torch for her for all those years, and the only reason you let her go was to move on to a girl that looks exactly like her, but who wanted you. A girl that you knew you couldn’t have. And now I’m supposed to believe that you’re just....suddenly over it all? That you wanting to race into this relationship is anything more than trying to leverage our status as mates so you don’t have to be alone? I care for you, Azriel, and it’s because I care for you that I can’t jump into a relationship with you just like that, when both of us have healing to do.”

Az probably wouldn’t love being called out like that, but would ultimately agree, or at least acknowledge that he can’t force this. So he agrees. They need to work on themselves. And they set boundaries. Just friends, nothing more. (This is, of course, exactly like Nessian and Feysand saying they want ‘just sex’. It damns them to feeling like they need more)

It would also be so bittersweet if this happened *after* they realize they’re mates. For maximum yearning and angst potential.

Like...imagine. They realize they’re mates fairly early in the story, but decide to stay just friends for now. So we get half to two thirds of a book where they’re friends, trying desperately to resist this bond, and trying to respect each others’ boundaries, trying to heal so they can love each other right. But they’re also fighting against the mating bond, which is exacerbating the sexual tension that was already there.

Think of all the Pride and Prejudice level sexual tension we could get! I think it would be less in your face than Nessian’s tension ever was (shit, they were never subtle), but I think there’s a lot of potential for stolen glances with intense thoughts, glancing touches, hand flexes, aching for each others’ touch, innocent training related touches that are just SUPERCHARGED with intentions, all the good yearn-y stuff. (All inspired by the romance novels that Emerie and Nesta give her)

I also think this could play into THIS theory I had about evil!Elain. Here’s how I picture it:

Az and Gwyn realize they’re mates

After a discussion, they’ve agreed to take things slow and focus on their own respective mental health.

They have agreed to stay close friends for the time being, and to continue to train together (well, in the Valkyrie group), and to try to keep the whole mates thing quiet as they can for now, just so no one bothers them about it

The IC has no sense of boundaries though, and it gets out to them because of course it does. Gwyn probably told Nesta, who accidentally let it slip to Cas, who she threatened within an inch of his life to keep quiet about it. But of course he didn’t. He brought it up to Az, Rhys overheard, which of course means Feyre knows, and long story short, Elain hears about it.

When Elain hears, she FREAKS. Silently, of course, but she freaks nonetheless, which leads down the arc that I detailed in the post I linked above

Outside of that, Gwyn and Az grow.

Az puts in legwork to confront his demons, accept his past (both Mor related, and his family history. A confrontation with his mother would be impactful)

I’m not entirely sure how he would get there (if I figure it out, you KNOW I’ll post about it) but he does come to a point where he knows he wants Gwyn, and for the right reasons. He consciously chooses her.

Not saying he goes from 0 to fully healed, but he does enough legwork to be able to enter a relationship without it being doomed from the start

(This should totally involve him talking to Nesta, the queen of self destructive romantic behaviors, and a development of their budding bromance. He’s always been one of the only people to treat her like a person, not a weapon, a threat, or a nuisance/pest, and she’s always treated him with a softness most don’t afford him. She’s also canonically one of the only people not afraid of him and his shadows. They’re my bro-tp. No I will not be taking criticisms on this)

Gwyn, for her part, has been leaving the library more and more. For daytime outings to visit Nesta, Emerie, Azriel. To train Valkyries (I like to imagine that the Valkyries will get their own camp at some point, or at least space in Velaris to stay/train). To see Velaris.

I think it would be fun if she started to offer singing lessons like Feyre does painting lessons. Maybe she visits Nesta (who started offering dance lessons in Feyre’s newly expanded Velaris Center for Community Art), and Nesta convinced her that it might help her heal if she started to give back to the community and share her passion. (Bonus points if we get a scene where Az stumbles past and hears her singing to her students, and is just entranced by it)

She’s still taking advantage of the services the Library offers (it’s never explicitly stated, but I can only assume therapy is among those services), but she’s coming into her own, and starting to feel more comfortable outside the Library. Starting to heal. Starting to create a life in the present and move beyond her past. She’s starting to believe she deserves a bright future.

She’s also developing quite the friendship with Az. They quickly become best friends, confiding in each other, leaning on each other, joking together, generally being there for each other and bringing out the best in each other.

Az likes to bring Gwyn lunch/dinner in the library sometimes, Gwyn keeps track of when he’s away on spy business, and makes a point to visit him when he comes back, little things like that, that show they care about each other.

Clotho notices all of this, and brings it up to her at some point, telling her that she’s going to have to make the choice to leave at some point, and that she can’t keep straddling the line of living inside and outside the Library.

Gwyn shrugs it off, and continues living her life, thinking that she’ll be able to put it off for a while longer.

Cue Elain kidnapping Azriel.

Gwyn knows she has to go save him, but Clotho tells her that if she does this that she can no longer live in the Library. That she will always be welcome to visit, even to work as a scholar if she so chooses, but this mission will mark the end of the Library being her place of residence.

(I don’t know what reason Clotho would give Gwyn, but on the inside she’s doing this because she knows that Gwyn is ready to fly the coop, and needs that final push to have to acknowledge that she’s ready to leave. Clotho also knows about her and Az being mates, because of course she does. Clotho knows all.)

Of course, Gwyn leaves. She has to save Az. She loves him. He’s her best friend, her love, her soulmate. Her mate. It’s a very emotional moment, and also the perfect metaphor for her being able to leave behind her past to be able to live in the present and chase her future. It’s used to represent Gwyn choosing Azriel, if he’ll have her.

Bonus option: Gwyn takes Truthteller. Grabs the knife on her way to go save him. Doesn’t kill Elain with it, but does kill some guards with it on her way into where Elain has Az holed up.

After she saves Az, when they finally get a moment alone, Gwyn reveals that she needs to find a new home. She no longer lives in the Library.

There’s this tender moment where they bare their souls and basically agree to be together romantically and help each other heal.

They acknowledge that the idea of becoming entirely healed before a relationship isn’t wholly realistic or reasonable, and that they’re able to be together even if they’re still healing a bit.

Gwyn: I think....I think I’m ready to move forward. Catrin wouldn’t want me to keep living in my own shadow. She’d want me to live colorfully again, and be with the person I love. And I totally understand if you’re not there yet! I’m not trying to rush you or anything, I just want you to know that I’m ready for this. Whenever you‘re ready, I’ll be waiting for you with open arms, and an open, healing heart.

Az: *shakes head* I’m not sure I believe I deserve that, Gwyn. But gods if I don’t want to prove myself wrong. I can’t promise I’ll be perfect, I can’t promise that we won’t stumble, or that I won’t retreat into my own mind sometimes. But I can promise that even if I do, I’ll still love you with my whole heart. A heart that’s only ever really belonged to you.

Basically, in my mind, their story would be super tender and sweet, and sexy in a much less brash way than Nessian, or even Feysand. Not that I don’t think there’s potential for these two to get kinky and sexy as FUCK once they’re together, but I just feel like their love story would be different. More innocent (at least in comparison to High Lord and Lady of Shaking The Mountain and Commander General/Goddess of Fucking In Common Areas) and more centered on their respective healing arcs, leading into them falling in love.

But he refuses to acknowledge anything and Stefan is just there rolling his eyes at the situation but is nicer to the human than Vladimir is

The human is insecure so tries to avoid Vladimir like he does to her because everytime they meet he just has a cold idgaf face and will talk to anyone instead of her

But he does stay close to her bc of the bond keeps pulling him

You know what I want? I want Lucien to reject the mating bond cause he loves Vassa, and he knows Elain looks at him and all she sees is trauma. It’s the best thing for everyone. You can’t tell me he isn’t headed in that direction with Vassa idgaf if she’s human I can see it happening AND it would be FASCINATING to have the male reject the bond cause you know damn well that’s never happened with the way it’s talked about in the books. which are the most kyoru centric chapters?

That’s a really good one. I have a few even though I’m sure there are more. It isn’t a surprise that these are some of my favorite chapters. (｡◕‿◕｡)

SPOILER WARNING

1. Chapter 30

This one is the earliest i think Kyoru focused chapter. It’s where Tohru gets sick so Kyo cooks for her. Seriously one of the sweetest scenes ever. I love this one because it shows how Kyo is willing to provide for her. 

This is so off topic, but one of my favorite book series is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. It takes place in a world that has faeries. Some of the faeries develop “mating bonds” with each other and one thing that the females do for the males to show that they accept the bond is cook for them. Although, Kyo is male and he’s the one cooking for Tohru, it always reminded me of that part of the book. In other words, I thought of it as Kyo telling her “I really like you.” ;)

2. Chapter 33

The entire true form arc is obviously centered on Kyo and his backstory, then later on Tohru comes in to save him. And the moment she begs him to come home has to be one of the most powerful scenes in the series. It’s an unforgettable chapter.

3. Chapter 46

In this one, Tohru, Kyo and Yuki are thinking about their future after high school since parent/teacher conferences are coming up where they’ll be discussing it. Not surprisingly, it’s a stressful time for all of them as thinking about the future is daunting when it seems so far out of reach. 

Tohru starts to cry for Kyo when he tells her that his future will be decided for him and he has no choice in the matter because he’s the cat. He really knows it’s because he will be locked up after graduation, but he obviously doesn’t tell her that. 

  Seeing her cry over him was sweet. It’s one of the times she showed just how much she worried over him and wanted him to be successful and happy. She’s supported him from the beginning. This chapter focused on Yuki too, but Kyo and Tohru took the spotlight.

4. Chapter 52

They go to Kazuma’s house to have lunch with him and end up cooking together. I’ve touched on this one before here, but I’ll quickly mention it again. I enjoyed seeing them bond over cooking. It was way too cute. ( ･∀･)

5. Chapter 76

This is where they take their school trip. It’s also what I think is one of the earliest parts where Tohru realizes her true feelings for Kyo. She’s afraid of him pushing her away and can almost feel him doing so. She ends her inner monologue with “Kyo is special”. dawwww.

6. Chapter 120

This goes for chapter 119 as well. The last few chapters of the series heavily focus on Kyo and Tohru, understandably because their arc has to be wrapped up. Tohru’s love confession to him gives me chills every time I read it. It may seem out of character for her to be so....assertive. And yet it’s not. Because she’s been building up to this point and she has been developed flawlessly. It was also Kyo’s influence on her, when he told her time and time again to speak up for herself and tell people what you want, that she was finally like “IDGAF what you say I should feel about you or what you did to my mother. I just love you and that’s never going to change.” I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS AGAIN.

7. Chapter 129

Best chapter ever and every Kyoru fan will probably agree. ;) I can’t even imagine having to wait for this chapter or the last volume in general while the manga was ongoing (because I read it a few years after it was completed.) That would’ve been torture! I’d be like “I wanna see them get together already!!”

The build up to their relationship paid off in the end and the moment they came to terms with how they truly felt about each other was beautiful. Such a stunning scene.

8. Chapter 134

Their first date! With Hana and Uo chaperoning lol. It was so cool to actually see them go out together as a couple. They also visited her mother’s grave and it’s there where Kyo tells her that he wants her to go with him when he moves to train to take over Kazuma’s dojo. It was a new chapter to their story. ｡^‿^｡

That’s all I’ve got! 10/10 chapters right here for obvious reasons.

I was really surprised to find Greg and Annie hooking up, basically Greg cheating on his wife. Rio 100% didn’t shoot to kill when he shot Dean, because he knew that would ruin Beth’s entire life (Because in the doctors explanation, he said a couple of more inches and Dean could have died), Rio wasn’t brought up to MISS his target G, he knows what he’s doing. AND THE FACT THAT HE’S A GREAT DAD. WHEN HIM AND BETH GET INVOLVED SHE DON’T GOTTA WORRY BECAUSE HE’S ABOUT TO GET BEST STEP DAD AWARD BY HER KIDS (besides the criminal aspect, lmaoooo) I read a post that Beth is going to change who Rio is, like any other criminal bad boy and good girl series/movie, but I don’t think this is where the series is heading. I’m seeing a lot of people dismiss Elucien by claiming Elain doesn’t want him and “shrinks” away from him. I wanted to get your take on this. Cause how I see it is Elain desperately wants to feel in control again which is why she is pushing Lucien away. She has suffered tremendous trauma from being kidnapped by Hybern, turned into a fae against her will, being told she has a mate, her fiancé leaving her, having powers thrust on her she doesn’t understand, being kidnapped again, losing her father, and now having to pretend everything is fine because she sees how her sisters were struggling with their own trauma.

All these things happening to her and she hasn’t dealt with any of them, and that includes the mating bond. She hasn’t rejected it or accepted it. She just ignores it’s existence including Lucien himself. Given she has had over a year and still won’t even discuss the bond makes me think that is her way of taking control back. That she’s telling the Cauldren or the Mother or Fate to fuck off by deciding the bond doesn’t exist.

So seeing some other people claim that she doesn’t want Lucien I have to question that if that was definitively the case why doesn’t she outright reject the bond? Why drag out this feeling of limbo by ignoring Lucien or “shrinking” away from him? I see it as her taking control of her life back. She’s deciding she won’t deal with this thing that was pushed onto her by some divine entity. Same way she has pretended until ACOSF that her powers were gone.

And regarding the other unnamed ship for Elain I think that’s also a control thing. I think she genuinely cares about him. He saved her life many times and made her feel safe in this new crazy world she was pushed into. I just think that connection she has to him is the same as any traumatized person would have to someone who rescued them/experienced that same pain. I think maybe Elain is pushing for more in that connection because she feels this is a choice she made and not Fate. This relationship would be her taking control back. Which is why I could see them sharing intimacy that essentially will leave her feeling unfulfilled, especially considering his POV is more about what he thinks Fate owes him. Basically they would both be using each other.

Sorry I seriously could go on for another few paragraphs talking about how even in ACOTAR Elain was portrayed as the easy going one and that may be further evidence of her not dealing with her feelings… there I go again. This is a lot [insert I just have a lot of feelings gif].

This is really long, and I love you for your thoughts, and I am not one bit sorry that this took me like 45 minutes to write.

This argument is honestly the one that drives me crazy the most because we literally do not know what Elain wants. People keep saying “she’s not interested” or “they never talk” or “there’s no interaction” etc. Are they supposed to discuss the mating bond and their deepest feelings and thoughts about one another at Starfall, or winter solstice, or some other family function in front of literally everyone they know??? 

I’m sorry, but did we get an Elain book that I missed? A Lucien book? No, we’ve gotten Feyre’s story, and Nesta and Cassian and a bit of Rhys. Not once have we gotten a POV in which we could see Elain and/or Lucien discussing how they feel about one another without someone else present and/or interfering, without that information being filtered through someone else’s perception of how they feel.

And tbh? I think that’s telling. To me, that means it’s being saved for a future book.

Regarding the way that Elain supposedly shrinks from Lucien - again, if she really didn’t want to be around him, Feyre and Rhys would make that happen. 

In acowar, their interactions were quite different because she had just been Made, her powers were still unknown, she was still mourning Graysen and her father. Elain had a lot going on. I always like to compare it to feysand, and what Feyre’s reaction would have been if she knew about Rhys being her mate as soon as she met him in acotar. There’s no way in hell should would have just instantly thrown Tamlin over for him. Why would we expect Elain to be able to make that shift in her affections so easily?

In acosf, page 311, there is “tightness” in her face when she makes an excuse for not being around, and this is Cassian’s POV.

Page 602, again Cassian’s POV: “Cassian’s heart strained at the pain etching deep into Lucien’s face as he tried to hide his disappointment and longing. Elain only shrank further into herself, no trace of that new-found boldness to be seen.”

Any conjecture about why she reacted that way is 100% pure speculation. 

She could be feeling what Lucien feels because of the bond, and from what Cassian says it’s not a pleasant feeling. 

She could be unsure of what Lucien expects of her. 

She could be repulsed by him.

She could have such strong feelings that she shrinks because she has a difficult time hiding them (and she’s usually really good at hiding them). 

She could feel such an intense pull towards him that she physically withdraws. 

We literally do not know!!!

To me, it mirrors Wings and Embers when Nesta and Cassian were attracted to one another and he licked her neck, then she kicked him in the balls. I mean we literally have examples of this with the other mated couples where they are drawn together but still turn away from one another. However, we also got to see feysand and nessian one-on-one, from their own POV. We haven’t had that with elucien yet so any argument that says the above (she’s not interested, they never interact, etc.) has no basis in what we know. 

What we do know is that she hasn’t rejected the bond. Whatever those reasons are, Elain could have rejected the bond a thousand times over by now, but she hasn’t. I actually don’t think she runs from her problems, at least not all the time. I know that people keep arguing that, but I’m not convinced. I’ll make a separate post about that. 

Hell, Lucien could have rejected the bond a thousand times over by now!!!! Elain isn’t the only one who can do that, right?! And why would he choose to let it remain, when this pull is having such an effect on him? When Rhys said that it can make people go crazy if it’s not consummated? Like? Lucien has agency in this too, and of the two of them Lucien has a much larger stake in not letting this continue. 

There is a year of potential interactions between them that we have zero evidence of and so claiming that they haven’t happened is like one of the priestesses saying that the sky doesn’t exist because they never see it.

My final point is that I think that we haven’t gotten this information because it’s endgame, because it will get its own book and become fully developed when it’s not filtered through other characters’ perspectives.

Okay my actual actual final point is that idgaf how Az plays into all of this because she can want to kiss him in that one scene, and everything I said would still be true. I think you’re right that they can find comfort in one another because he rescued her (and he also rescued Gwyn) and because he was trying to put her at ease in acomaf (because it was his job), and Az intentionally made himself seem unthreatening. Elain doesn’t feel the same pressure or expectation from Az as there is from Lucien, so yeah, she feels more comfortable around him. She can smile blandly and he can say “no Elain can’t do that” and it doesn’t challenge anything about their lives.

My aversion to the one ship has never been about what characters deserve, because everyone deserves love and understanding and for people to be there to support them, to have a person. Suffering more or less doesn't make that any more or less true.

My aversion to that ship has been about what the characters are capable of giving - and since acowar came out almost four years ago, I've known that Az just is not capable of giving anyone a healthy, mutually supportive relationship. He just doesn't have it in him right now. Eventually, maybe. But even when you take away the mating bond, when you take away who has suffered what and who "deserves" what because of that, Az is in no place for a long-term, loving, healthy relationship.

And tbh, I'm glad that sjm made that clear in the Az short story. I saw hints of Tamlin, I saw his rage that made Mor, the woman he supposedly loved and the woman he viewed at the very least as part of his family, literally cower in fear. I saw the hints that he refused to deal with his reality, that he often acted in the interests of what was pragmatic, rather than what was empathetic, though it was mistaken for kindness. And that chapter? It verified that and then made it ten times worse, imho.

Now if people want to keep shipping it, idgaf. People can ship what they want, whether it's healthy or not, whether it's canon or not. Let's just not... pretend that it's romantic or healthy in any way. Embrace it for what it is, if you must.

I love the way Azriel lost the snowball fight after 199 years of winning because of almost-kiss with Elain and then came to his sis Gwyn to take the pressure off. Oh, did i say sis? My bad. He came to somebody he barely considered as a friend lol. But I hope your mermaid girl would at least do 1 thing right and help Elain and Azriel to fool Rhys and the ginger. Better rundown of my Eris/Mor backstory theory

Okay so the way we’ve heard it is that Mor didn’t really know Eris before they were betrothed.

But. What if they did.

It’s not like they were childhood besties or anything, but they’re both high society high fae

It stands to reason that they’d run into each other at least a little at official functions.

So my theory is they knew each other.

They’d run into each other a handful of times through the years, and became friends

I like to think that maybe they exchanged magic notes, like Feyre/Rhys

Maybe they even started to love each other

Eris let Mor see past his bravado and facade

Showed her a side of him that no one else, save his mother, even knew existed (although he was for sure much softer before he and Mor’s story)

Because you can’t convince me that Eris isn’t a parallel to Rhys. He’s soft too, we just haven’t seen it

In fact, that side of him is the only side Mor ever really saw

And he was kind to her, in a way no one else was. Even the bat boys. Eris treated her like she was his world

He gave her some bravado of her own, made her feel valuable beyond what she was valued for by her father

But like, at the same time, they also only physically saw each other a handful of times before the whole betrothal thing happens

With this, almost no one really noticed that them talking to each other. No one saw them become friends

Except Eris’ mom.

When Eris’ mom saw her son interacting/being soft with Mor, she pulled strings to get her son married off to someone he liked and who brought out the best in him (unbeknownst to Beron, he thought that it was just a fantastic power move to marry Eris to such a high born noble of the Night Court)

In the meantime, Mor has been hearing from others that Eris is this awful brute, and hearing more and more about the facade he wears

After the betrothal, people started to realize they’d seen Mor and Eris around each other several times at past court functions

So, as more and more people in her direct circle heard about how she’d been seen around the prince of the Autumn Court, they started to make offhand comments about things he’s done, how awful his family (particularly his father) are to people, women in particular

Mor is also realizing she isn’t entirely straight, and doesn’t really want to be married off to anyone before she can explore that side of herself

Mor finds a way to meet with Eris (which would be a fun high stakes sneaking-out-of-the-Hewn-City scene) to talk to him, and try to get him to get the betrothal called off

(Spoiler alert, he doesn’t want to)

She’s telling him that she doesn’t want to marry yet (partly because she thinks she prefers females, but also because she doesn’t want to marry  into such an awful family, or be tied to someone who’s done the things Eris has done) when their mating bond clicks

Not as in fully (because idk if we’ve seen a mating bond fully solidify without sex, which they never had), but they can tell, they’re mates. Full on Lucien/Elain moment.

I’m picturing a whole confrontation, with tons of romantic tension in it. But in the middle:

“Why are you being so nasty now? I thought we had a connection!” Eris yelled hoarsely, “I thought you cared for me!”

Mor whirled around suddenly, fire in her eyes as she faced him. “I do care-” her sentence cut short and her eyes went wide with shock. She stumbled backwards. “No, no, no, no, no...”

She could see on Eris’ face that he could sense it too.

Idk, there would for sure be more, but I’m not in these guys’ head enough to really flesh it out

But you get the idea

Mor goes from mild freak out to FULL ON PANIC ATTACK about it all

She pulls a Rhys and immediately winnows out of Autumn Court and to Windhaven

She sleeps with Cassian, at this point both to try to get out of the betrothal AND to prove a point AND to try to see if she actually likes men (at this point mentally she’s a whole wreck)

She’s resolved to go finish her conversation with Eris when her father finds her (either at the Hewn City, or in the Autumn Court)

He knows what she’s done, can smell it all over her

Keir sends word to Beron, hopeful that he can salvage the situation, but Beron says no and ends the betrothal

In response Keir, ya know, tortures Mor and leaves her for the Autumn Court to find

In the meantime, Eris and Beron meet

Eris says he still wants to marry Mor, that he doesn’t give a shit about her virginity. She’s still a powerful match, and lets slip that he has feelings for her. (Secretly, he just doesn’t want to be parted from his mate, and wants the chance to flesh out that relationship. But he also knows exactly how much danger Mor would be in if Beron found out they were Mates)

Beron not only tells him no, but threatens him within an inch of his life

“You will not marry her. She’s damaged goods now. To marry her would be to sully our family’s name. It would undermine our Court.”

Eris stood tall and proud against his father. “You can’t stop us. I love this girl. And I will marry her, with or without your permission.”

“Oh, you think so, boy?” Beron chuckled darkly. “Then go ahead, marry the slut. See how welcome you are in this home. You will be banished from the Autumn Court, and hunted til the day you both die.” Beron’s eyes went colder than Eris thought possible, “You think that any Court will stand to protect a traitor and his whore of a wife? My hounds will hunt you for eternity, and when they find you, you’ll learn exactly what happens to those who would shit all over my family name.”

He basically tells him that he has to not abandon Mor, but also show adequate disdain for her, or risk people thinking him weak, which would set off his father’s temper, and potentially make Beron torture/kill Mor

I also think that Beron would torture Eris while Mor is also being tortured

This convinces Eris to drop it and do as his father says, at least until he can find a way to kill his father and ascend to the throne

But back to Mor, who’s been left bleeding and naked in the forest

Eris finds her (but here’s where it gets different)

He finds her before the official time.

The first time he finds her, he’s alone. Beron has just released him from being tortured, and threatened him again, told him that the only way to keep him and Mor safe is to abandon her.

So, after finding her, he goes home, finds a way to (anonymously) get word to Mor’s friend (Az) that she needs help, and stages a ‘public’ scene

Not that Mor is conscious for any of this. She’s unconscious until Eris shows back up, entourage in tow.

Which is what we’re shown, when he sneers at her and leaves her to bleed out.

This is the catalyst/start of Eris being the sonofabitch that we’re introduced to in ACOWAR

He basically gives up on being any sort of good person outwardly, and only half gives a shit about actually being good on the inside

Mor, for her part, is traumatized by Eris abandoning her (he’s her mate, ffs, he’s supposed to protect her! Little does she know, he is in his own way) but she’s also legitimately terrified that one day Eris is going to wake up and decide that he’s going to forcibly out her (both sexually, and as his Mate)

Which like, he would never, but she doesn’t know that. After he left her in the woods, she thinks he’s the person everyone told her he was

This could also play into her sexuality. Because yes, it is completely possible that she’s just bisexual and homoromantic.

But I think it would make an awful lot of sense if she realized while sleeping with Cassian that no other male would feel right. Because she knows her mate is out there. She loved him at one point. And sure, sleeping with males filled a void, but it just wasn’t fulfilling.

Females were different, though. The mating bond is, ultimately, tied heavily into reproduction potential, so imo, there would be a heavy tendency for mated couples (specifically those who realized they were mates AND were in genuine love w/o fully solidifying the bond) to have a harder time finding hetero relationships outside of their mate, because the bond/the Cauldron is telling them that this isn’t who they’re supposed to be reproducing with. But the Cauldron doesn’t really have a stake in homosexual relationships. So it’s more like “You do you, boo, idgaf” (also, in this headcanon, yes the Cauldron is kinda way overbearing with regards to reproduction, and yes, I agree that it would make the Cauldron homophobic when it chooses mates. Simply put, what we’re told about the Cauldron skews homophobic. We get told over and over again that the mating bond is about producing powerful offspring. Which makes it canon that its main concern is reproduction, which would automatically make it much harder, if not close to impossible for gay people in ACOTAR to have Mates. I hate it, but I didn’t write the canon. I’m just theorizing within the bounds of what we’ve been given)

Idk how I want this to come out, but regardless of how it happens, I don’t want Mor to end up going back to Eris

That’s partially a lie. I want this story coming out to be mildly messy. But at the same time, I want Mor coming out to be on her terms, so I don’t want it to be THAT level of messy.

But I for sure would love if Az and Cassian and Rhys confront her about lying to them by omission for 500 years

And for Azriel to confront her about stringing him along. Especially since she knew she had a mate

Anyway, I’m all for forgiveness and moving past things, and acknowledging that sometimes we do awful things to protect those we love

But I would SO MUCH RATHER Mor get a moment where she gets to tell him off

“Thank you for telling me the truth after all these years. It’s haunted me in ways I can’t even say.” Mor’s gaze was locked on Eris, her face cold and certain. “But that doesn’t mean I forgive what was done to me. What you did to me. I’m all healed now, physically and mentally. I’m finding my own happiness.” Emerie shifted on her feet from her spot behind Mor. She looked as though she was fighting against a look of beaming pride. “I loved you, Eris, but I’m happy without you. And I don’t want you in my life. At all. Ever.”

Like, that would be so powerful! Not only would it be great for someone to choose someone other than their mate

But also, it would touch on an overlooked concept in this series. The fact that no matter your intentions, the people you hurt are under no obligation to forgive you.

Like I love Rhys, I adore Nesta, and I love that they got forgiveness from the people they hurt, but I think it’s also important to have that idea in there that actions have consequences, no matter what your intentions were.

Anyway, that’s like..a whole fleshed out version of what I theorize happened with Mor/Eris
