Spock's World Inspired Holiday Card circa 1992
December 1992. Spock's World was among my favorite novels. I had just turned 19 years old that month. In keeping with the tradition of making holiday cards, that year I drew artwork inspired by a scene in Spock's World, the Star Trek novel by Diane Duane.
No computer. No printer. This was 1992. I drew it in pencil and darkened it with ink. The message was all hand lettered. My dad made copies of the artwork at his office. Each copy was colored by hand with colored pencils and crayons.
The image centers on the IDIC symbol, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination, a concept central to Vulcan philosophy. Diane Duane wrote the most beautiful passage in Spock's World that simply explained the meaning of IDIC. I copied the passage for the message inside the card. The IDIC symbol was surrounded by animals, plants, and other organisms representing the biodiversity of Earth.
The passage from Spock's World was from a scene where Surak was in the desert and saw the giant sandworm-like creature, referred to as the Underlier (called A'kweth or Tcha'besheh). Both beings paused and beheld one another, the Underlier and the Vulcan, in the vast desert under the light of T'Khut (called The Watcher), Vulcan's sister planet.
"How delightful to be so different from something. No need to understand them, particularly; that might come with time and would be an added delight. But it was enough to accept their difference, to celebrate just that without anything added. Creation, in itself, was joy, the difference was joy, the celebration of it was joy."

The passage in the novel continued:
"There was nothing that could stand against that joy: sooner or later it would triumph. All evil, all death, was a tiny, fretting, posturing thing that knew its own defeat was coming, and it might rage and destroy as it liked. It was doomed. Celebration would win, was winning, had won now. Everything was one moment, and the moment was nothing but triumph and joy."
This resonated with my 18/19 year old self. This still resonates with me today. Oh, my heart! I cry for joy! Such beautiful ideas and words to live by!
Regretfully, I didn't credit the author on the card at the time. I assumed friends and family wouldn't care. It was yet another weird, cheap, homemade holiday card from their weirdo sister / niece / daughter / student / friend.
I hope you enjoy the amateur artwork and Diane Duane's message. Enjoy the diversity and differences. Embrace and embody IDIC.
Thank you, @dduane.
Peace and long life,
Amy

Six years after a cosmic ray entered my brain and gave me the idea for this, I've finally gotten it edited and formatted into a nice, polished one page (front and back) TTRPG.
The game's premise is that, three years ago, a mad scientist invented an improbable T-cell injection that lets people permanently change their shape. A person can come up with any biologically valid form (and quite a few biologically invalid ones), and with just one needle-poke and a weekend of bed rest, make that hypothetical body their own.
But the game's thesis is that it's not enough, on its own, to magically become your "ideal self". Like a teenager going through puberty, one must still take the necessary time and awkward effort to grow into that self – figuring out how to be that person, and how that person fits into the world around them.
You can download it for free on itch.io, or at this direct link.

Here is concrete evidence that James T. Kirk and his first officer S'chn T'gai Spock are soulmates and lovers. If you disagree, fight with the wall.
1. Vulcans kiss with their hands. According to this, Kirk and Spock have kissed many times according to canon. I have included sources to back this up.
Tumblr media
2. The creator of Star Trek himself said that he created Kirk and Spock’s relationship to be a “love” relationship and based it off of two gay lovers. I have included the source for this too.
3. Also, just take a look at all the longing looks Kirk and Spock always give each other. Look at how Spock, a Vulcan who has been learning to control his emotions since birth, smiles when he sees that Jim is alive. Also see how Spock touches Jim often even though touch is seen as intimate for Vulcans and so it is rarely used. Read between the lines!
4. Spock literally tells Kirk “I am yours” in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan. Don’t forget how Spock tells Jim that he makes him believe in luck, and Jim replies and says that Spock makes him believe in miracles.
5. Also, there’s a scene where Kirk thinks he’s getting a massage from Spock (because he can’t see where Spock really is). It’s actually a female crew member massaging him. He’s enjoying the massage and says “dig it in there, Mr. Spock,” until he sees Spock walk beside him with his peripheral vision. He immediately gets flustered and tells the female crew member that she can stop massaging him. Do I even have to explain this one? This is so gay.
6. Also, in an episode of Star Trek Lower Decks, a picture is shown of an engraving made that says “Kirk+Spock”.
7. As a final nail in the coffin, don’t forget the scene in the one Star Trek movie where Jim leans in to kiss Spock and Spock says “please captain, not in front of the Klingons.”
If you are still in denial that Captain Kirk and Spock are lovers, then that’s a you problem.

"I think the whole idea of IDIC is a complete lie. Vulcans show time and time again that they don't actually approve of diversity in any of its forms, in different ways of thinking and being, different species, or different points of view. "Infinite diversity" doesn't include anyone who thinks, feels or is even just genetically different. Vulcans who have thoughts and actions that diverge from totally unemotional logic are punished for it. It's often stated or implied that they think humans and other species are inferior to Vulcans because they aren't logical enough and are too emotional. I just can't stand Vulcans in general. If Vulcans have 1000 haters etc."

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations
Star Trek has a long history of providing autistic viewers with a sense of belonging, especially through the emotionally-reserved, logic-driven Vulcan. So much so that writers at Women at Warp, Cambridge University, and the official Star Trek site have covered the topic.
Your neurodiversity adds to the beauty of the galaxy! 🖖♾️

15000% disagree with some of the fandom's comments stating that the Spock x Uhura relationship in the reboot is "compulsary heterosexuality" or "forced heterosexuality". The smart and driven Black woman falling in love with the intelligent and reserved half alien guy is just another slice of the diversity pie.
Remember the IDIC, people.

One of my favorite things about Trek: IDIC, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. The Vulcan philosophy that celebrates the vast array of variables in the universe.

Jim Kirk’s Bisexuality: A Thesis
I mean, how could anyone ever think this.
How could we ever possibly arrive at or believe, that James T. Kirk, swaggering space captain, might be a bisexual character.
Like where are the receipts though? It’s such a massive 56 year old mystery?
You'd think if that were the case, there’d be some kind of proof by now. Like, oh I don't know, this:
Tumblr media
or this:
Tumblr media
Or outfits like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or all that looking at Spock constantly like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or other substantiated canonical evidence like, you know, allusions right from the creator of the characters and the show. He knows what’s good, he made them, right? He’ll set the record (not so) straight.
Like that time Gene Roddenberry invented a whole new Vulcan word just to thoroughly describe Kirk and Spock’s unique and close relationship as (from TMP novel):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or upon seeing Spock return to the bridge for the first time in TMP novel, how Jim Kirk mentally describes his relationship with Spock as follows:
Tumblr media
I mean, sure. Y’know. Just bro things. Being mind bonded and whatnot.
Or things posted on official Star Trek social media accounts like this:
Tumblr media
Or y’know, returning to the book by creator of Star Trek Gene Roddenberry (TMP) where they interview Kirk about his sexuality and he says, referring to rumours about him and Spock:
Tumblr media
So OK. Let’s just.
Let us just give pause here.
Take a moment, my child.
This is Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, writing as James T. Kirk, who is describing to the world his sexuality:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People.
I don’t ask for much in this life.
Can somebody please.
Please.
PLEASE EXPLAIN, how they got a 100% straight interpretation out of that.
WHAT PART OF THAT was not James T. Kirk getting up on a table and screaming to the world(s):
Jim: “HELLO UNIVERSE, JUST AN FYI, I’M DTF WITH ANYONE. Like A,NY,ONE. IT’S COOL WITH ME. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT. I’M GONNA GET DOWN FROM HERE NOW.”
Spock: Jim I am standing right here. The table display was unnecessary. (I also didn’t have to go ham on ‘em all like that. Damn. But I ain’t sorry.  Thank you for coming to my Ted X Talk about ficitonal space queers and for reading my Jim Kirk Bi-Ble. IDIC. Don’t forget to try the plomeek soup-)
