Ah, I remember seeing this fiasco when it first appeared on Twitter. Patrick Tomlinson thought he came up with some genius scenario that, according to him, "no pro-lifer had ever been able to answer" when in reality he was ignoring and blocking everyone who answered him in a reasonable way that showed he and his scenario were foolish and not the clever trap he imagined it to be.

He is approaching this very disingenuously from the start with the way he poses the question. He will only accept a person saying A (save the five year old from the fire) or B (save the 1000 viable human embryos) and that's it. He won't allow you to even rationalize to him why you selected one or the other because he's already decided why a person picked one or the other. He decided that if a person picked A that meant it was because they thought the child's life had more value than the life of the embryos and were not equal and if you picked B, well, you're just a monster. And that was it. And when you ask a question to other people where you decide beforehand what the only possible explanation for any answer is you're setting yourself up to look like an idiot. And when you pretend the reasons you imagine are the only rationalization for the choices and you do not allow people to say "well, actually, this is the reason I'm going with this option, which is different then the reason you imagined up" then you're not there genuinely looking for answers. You're just trying to "own" pro-lifers. Case in point, one person answered they would save the 1000 embryos using the rationalization that I've seen pro-aborts use when they justify murdering children which is "save as many lives as possible" and he just called them a monster.

So he created a scenario. He gave two options. He decided beforehand that there was only one certain explanation for each answer and there was only one right answer that he would accept. Which makes him a pretentious fool who cannot have an honest discussion about the scenario he invented.

But, anyway, this illustration he came up with is you're in a fertility clinic where a fire breaks out and you only have the chance to save a crying five year old or a container with 1000 viable human embryos and it is just a rehashing of the trolley problem.

Do you pull the lever on a runaway trolley to divert it to a track where it will kill one person or let it keep barreling down the path its on where it will kill five people?

It's a thought experiment that poses a moral dilemma to explore human ethics and moral responsibility. These questions are not designed to have perfect solutions where everyone gets a happy ending and they are not questions that determine who are people and who are not and which human lives are more valuable based on a decision you make in a high stakes situation where no matter what you do someone is going to die.

In the trolley problem, no one makes their decision because they think the individual human lives at stake don't have equal worth or value and no one assumes that's the rationalization behind the choice you're forced to make. So the fact that Tomlinson is presenting the revised trolley problem as a scenario where whichever choice you make means the other lives have less value and are not equal to the life you chose to save means he doesn't understand the question he is asking.

But, anyway, now that I've gone over the very serious flaw in the question asker and the way he is approaching this issue, the answer I give is the answer most people would give. I would save the crying five year old. But the reason I choose this option is not because I don't see the embryos as having equal moral value as Tomlinson thinks is the only possible reason. The reason I go with this option is because if I am in a situation where I am about to die and only have time to grab one or the other before we are all gone, it's ridiculous to assert this is a time where I would be at an intellectual peak able to weigh the moral and ethical questions raised by any choice I would make when I just have to get out as quick as I can and only have the time to hastily go with one or the other. It's also fallacious to assume that the choice I make under such extreme pressure reflects how I feel about the moral value and worth of the life I do not save. Even if I hypothetically chose the five year old because I thought their life had more value than the lives of the embryos that does not actually determine what the reality is. My choice in a high stakes situation does not determine what lives are valuable and which ones aren't. Like of course in a situation like that I would instinctually try to save the child I can hear screaming for help. But that doesn't mean that I think the embryos are less valuable because my gut instincts do not determine human worth.

But I just don't like the dishonesty Tomlinson brings with this question. He can't give you a situation where two (or more) people are going to die, give you the option to only save one and tell you that your decision means whoever you don't save you see as lesser and think their lives don't matter on the same level as whoever you choose to save. Because I can ask him that question right back and just change who his choices are to save. I can say you're in a burning building and your mom is one room and your dad is in the other. You can only save one before exiting the building. There is no third option or way to save them both. And whoever you choose to leave behind in this scenario, you are leaving behind because you know the lives of your mother and father are "not the same, not morally, not ethically, not biologically." If you rescue your mom that means you don't believe your father's life is morally equivalent to the life of your mother and vice versa. So, who do you save? Whose life has the most moral value? Your mom or your dad?

Sorry for the long rant but the arrogance he has over his deeply flawed and disingenuous "question" annoys me to no end.

I was bored and decided to re-roll double life soulmates and see if i could think of anything fun with these new pairs

so i took the double life cast plus Skizz, Lizzie, Mumbo and Gem because i wanted to include everyone

(i know that Gem was only in one session but we had an odd number and shes a lifer to me)

now theres some absolute gems in this

first things first, the true soulmates: Joel and Lizzie

they were the first thing i rolled and it was so perfect omg,,,,,, obviously they are the power couple, the girlboss malewife. very chaotic duo and possibly a bit dangerous

next up: Skizz and Mumbo

now because those two dont interaact like at all from my knowledge i cant say much for sure, but i feel like the two of them would make a very fun team. with Skizz's impulsiveness and Mumbos redstone abilities i feel they could do some very fun stuff. I dont think theyd get very far but theyre here for a fun time, not a long time

Pearl and Tango

this one is kinda interesting. we have established that Pearl is crazy, we know that, but Tango is too just in a completely different way. Pearl doesnt beat around the bush much, she there and you know it. while Tango often works in the back seat in the middle of some crazy plot like Dare to Flare, Bet your life, or bringing a warden to the surface. combine these two and youd get some fun results.

Ren and Grian

first thing that came to mind: the dramatics. Grian is the known war starter and Ren is known roleplayer, do i need to make it obvious??? they would be SO fun to watch. Just by thinking about im upset that this isnt already a thing, god. I feel their shenanigans would be on par with the Bad Boys.

Cleo and Etho

if limited life taught us anything its that these two = divorce and im so here for that. this feels as if it be Cloe + Martyn Version 2. and considering and Etho on his own is a bit more pathetic then Martyn it would be very pitiful to watch. Cleo would be out girlbossing(as they do) and Etho would be struggling to do much, that or Etho would be also fine on his own but i think itd be better if he were a little pathetic yk

Scar and Bdubs

these two are impulsive idiots and would do nothing but enable each other and im so here for it. they would go on a million different mini mission in a single session. youd get whiplash from watching them. but i feel like this would make them either very dangerous or not threatening at all. who knows

Jimmy and Scott

flower husbands. what more do i have to say? Scott would be the pro player that he is while jimmy does nothing but get himself killed. theyd make an okay team is third life is anything to go by. i feel Scotts skills at the game and Jimmy's lack of would just balence themselves out a bit. who knows, maybe Jimmy would be the second one to die with a soulmate like Scott

Impulse and Martyn

a southlanders duo! these two were hilarious back in last life and they would be again. theyd make a pretty decent team i think. I mean these two were top two in limited life. theyd be a good mix of shenanigans and actual decent plays, a very good balance i think

and last but not least Gem and BigB

now this ones a thinker because Gem was only ever in one session of the game and did not once interact with BigB(if im remembering correctly) but going on assumptions i think these two would make a great team. first of all i think theyd be semi-wholesome. with Gems cottagecore vibes and BigBs general BigB-ness i think theyd be very cute. but also quite dangerous. Gem is a known PvPer (GeminiSlay!) and BigB makes his own good plays fairly often as well. Otherall very cute, but threatening team

okay this is the only abortion post im gonna make cause Current Events are deeply upsetting, but it bugs the crap out of me every time the topic comes up.

listen to me. discussions of what a fetus is and when something can be called “alive” are an obfuscation. they do not matter.

because the people you’re arguing with, despite calling themselves pro-life, aren’t TALKING about the scientific definition of “life.” they’re talking about a religious belief of when something gains a soul. and according to christianity, the soul is Known by God before conception, and then metaphysically becomes a Person at conception. according to this belief, it does not matter when life begins, because the soul was pre-determined when two people decided to have sex.

pro-lifers arent idiots willfully ignoring Science, they are fundamentally arguing about a different topic, and are frustrated that you keep changing the subject. you can’t disprove a philosophical belief, you need to assume their theological point is sound before addressing it. because who CARES if a fetus has a soul, the fact of the matter is that we don’t legally compel people to suffer to save other people, that’s barbaric. organ donation is opt-in. blood donation is opt-in. even if you’re the only match and you know the patient will die without it. biology and shit doesnt even come into it the POINT is that bodily autonomy is already treated as a human right in all other fields. (you could also argue of course that religion is not a basis for law, but....i guarantee zero pro-lifers will give a shit about you saying that.)

Those poor women either took drugs to kill their fetus or even killed them AFTER their birth (I'm sure there's a masterpost floating around debunking these stories).

Abortion doesn't even stop rape. If anything, if facilitates its erasure (planned Parenthood allying with pimps to perform underage abortion under the radar) You guys are just moving the goal to appeal to emotionalism. It recently came to light that an 11 year old girl was pregnant due to rape here in Brazil. When the mother discovered, she took her daughter to the hospital to get an abortion, because, by law, if a child gets pregnant due to rape, they are legally allowed to get an abortion. But the hospital didn’t want to do it cause according to them, she was already 22 weeks pregnant, and they could only do it until 20 weeks.

So they went to court. Now, the fucking judge and the prosecuter are trying to make this 11 year old child KEEP the baby. She told the girl things like “just keep it in for a few more weeks so it has a chance to live”. When asked if she wanted to name the baby, the girl said no. When asked if the baby kept her from studying, the girl said yes. The judge had the fucking audacity to ask her “do you think the father would agree to put it up for adoption?” which the girl replied “i don’t know”. The girl was put away in a shelter, away from her own mother who’s very desperate, to be kept from getting an abortion. The mother just wants her daughter by her side to care for her, cause the girl has no ideia what’s going on, cause again, SHE. IS. A . CHILD. The judge even had the nerve to say, to both mother and daughter, that if they put the baby for adoption, they torment they are going through will be the happiness of another couple. The prosecuter tried to make them change their minds by saying an abortion would make the baby be out on the womb in pain, and cry and they would watch it die, but this fucking idiot didn’t know that when an abortion is done, the baby’s heart beats have already stopped when it comes out. They’re saying they can’t let her have an abortion cause it would be homocide. I have no fucking words.

Doctors have already confirmed that because of her age, the girl is at a lot of health risks like - anemia, pre-eclampsya, hemorrage, and at a worst scenario, histeryoctome. But no, justice refuses to allow the abortion, instead wanting for her to wait a few weeks to have an induced birth (which again could cause her a lot of risk) so the baby can be put up for adoption. They have even proof that children between 10-15 years at 4 times more risk of dying if the birth happens. Psychologists who apparently have been in contact with the girl affirm her wish of terminating it.

I’m gonna link the article where I took all this information from and I beg of, at least brazilians, to read it. This isn’t the first time this has happened, and if we keep this govnermeant, it won’t be the last.

“Pro-lifers” do NOT care about children. They don’t care about life. They care about themselves. The choice to have an abortion is a choice that belongs to the one carrying the baby and to them ONLY. No one should be allowed to interfere, ESPECIALLY when we’re talking about a motherfucking child. This girl already went through one of the most traumatising events, and now she’s being forced to hold a child she does not want, because some people care more about an unborn being than her own life.

Enough is fucking enough.

Ok you know the lie that we need to dispel about abortion is that women use abortion as a formal contraception. I cannot tell you the amount of either pro lifers or conservatives that I've heard this argument from as to why they do not think that abortion should be illegal or why it should have such harsh limits to it. This is not any kind of talking point that I've ever seen the pro choice side ever speak about, its time that it needs to be dispelled. Because of all the available contraception that is out there nowadays and with the morning after pill available to think that any woman would choose to use abortion as a formal contracept is idiotic. I don't know where this idea came from but it is very deeply rooted in the pro lifers and conservatives minds.

Just yesterday, Thanksgiving I was having a discussion with someone in my family that happens to be a republican and conservative one of their reasons they believe that there should be such harsh limits to abortion and access to it is because of this belief that women use it as a form of contraception. Now I did try to explain and try to say how logically that doesn't make any sense with all the available ways and means to keep yourself from getting pregnant. That someone would choose to go have an invasive procedure when they could stop it from even becoming pregnant in the first place. I am hoping that it did put a little light bulb on in their head. Cause it doesn't make any sense whatsoever if you think about it logically and you can hopefully take the emotional part out of it. It's definitely a myth that has to be dispel at this point. I cannot tell you the amount number of people over the years that believe abortion should be illegal this their one number reason. I think it's high time that we as being on the side of pro choice get rid of it once and for all. I'm not sure where this idea ever came into being in the first place and when I've had this discussion with people it's never anyone they know directly that uses abortion as contraception it's always like; a friend of their mom's cousin's aunt best friends niece's husband sister kind of thing. It's developed as an urban legend it seems to be like everyone on pro life side of the political aisle knows about this thing but nobody actually knows anybody that directly actually's ever done it. Which I found that usually means it's complete bullshit. But oddly enough the people that have the biggest platforms to speak about dispelling rumors about abortions never seem to talk on this subject and yeah I know it seems like especially if you're pro choice common sense but to pro life it's not. With Roe v Wade being overturned and abortion rights in our country being at the place they are right now which is they could be gone forever or at least for numerous generations I think it's high time that every myth and lies of about abortion is destroyed. Only the facts remain. To make it accessible and safe for all woman in our country once again. Because it's a health care decision that should be between females and our doctors never between any politicians or law makers.

Abortions and Birth Control

Where to start with this?

Firstly, men who say "Women who were irresponsible enough to be pregnant need to take responsibility." are idiots. A man helps to create a baby too. By that logic, a man should take responsibility for a baby too. If a woman is forced to raise a child that she doesn't want, then a man shouldn't be allowed to leave her while she's pregnant. And the quote "Women who were irresponsible enough to be pregnant need to take responsibility." doesn't even begin to touch on the topic of women who were raped, women who's partners slipped the condom out halfway through, women who's birth control failed. What if a woman's life is at risk with the pregnancy? Women have a heartbeat too. And people who say that women can just get their tubes tied are big fat uneducated morons.

Women have had experiences when they went to have their tube tied where their healthcare provider would ask things like "Oh, but what about your husband?" "Are you married?" "What if your husband wants kids?" "What if you regret it?" and are told things like "You're too young." "You'll regret it.". There are so many obstacles standing in the way of women trying to get their tubes tied compared to men getting a vasectomy. When women get their tubes tied, there are also hormonal side effects. When men get a vasectomy, there's NO hormonal side effects. But the hormones side of things is just basic biology, there's no arguing that. But, for whatever reason, birth control is pushed onto women. It only takes 24 hours to recover from a vasectomy whereas it takes 1 - 3 weeks to recover from getting your tubes tied. And yet, men will refuse vasectomies but pressure women to get their tubes tied or get a hysterectomy. And if a woman is pregnant, people only care while the baby is in her womb.

People don't care about the baby once a woman gives birth. A prime example of this is how pro lifers push for abortions to be banned because "A fetus is a human." And "Abortions are murder.". Like, bitch, a fetus is a ball of cells. They don't even have pain receptors until the fourth month of pregnancy. And how are abortions murder? And you only care about the baby while it's in the womb. Once it's out, you don't give a shit. If all lives matter, what about the black lives? What about the thousands of kids in foster care who are being raped and abused daily? No one bats an eye. If you really think all lives matter, then you should also help kids in foster care and homeless people. What about the people who can't afford a hospital or treatment for something such as cancer? What about them?

My opinion is: Abortions should be made widely accessible to women. It should be a woman's choice if she gets an abortion or not. She should not be denied basic healthcare.

Maybe it is just my weird luck, but so far pro-lifers I've seen are almost exclusively infertile. Like either because of illness or because they have a dick or whatever, the core point is - people that can't give birth. I wonder if there is some unrealized envy problem going on? Like you know that one toxic dad who dreamed of career in football but got untreatable leg trauma so he now tries to force his son to do football even if he prefers music? It feels like a similar thing - making one's own unfulfilled wishes other people's problem and trying to live them vicariously through others.

I am not sure what to make out of it, I guess you can only really understand what HUGE weight having a baby has only if you had one, or able to have one.

In either case, naturally people don't see nuances. Not only it is crippling, but it is not as easily preventable as it seems. Plenty of people are simply not educated and they even believe that having sex in only certain days or pulling out before climax nullifies risk of pregnancy, not simply lessens it. There are also horny teenagers that weren't educated at ALL, let's be real. There are also issues with accessing birth control tools and meds in many places.

But like, people want sex, it is very hard to resist and it is normal, there is nothing evil in it. If those guys really cared about saving unborn kids - they'd do their darnest coming up with birth control ways that are 100% accessible and 101% working. And naturally, just educate people better ffs. The ones most screwed by abort bans are those poor and/or just not informed enough before too late, placing sticks in the wheels for some irresponsible idiots that do end up aborting just because they wanted high of unprotected sex is not worth it.
