anyway, ur 'jade poisoning yuu' idea gave me thoouuuughhts and ive just been imaging jade who only ever saw yuu as like a pawn at first cuz he wanted someone to play with for a while-- and jade being jade constantly makes mushroom dishes but imagine his surprise when they actually accept his meal and eat it happily.

people usually find his mushroom obsession annoying and offputting so he's suprised but OBVIOUSLY his first thought to this yuu eating his dishes is 'now i finally have someone to test all these poisonous mushrooms on!! ^^' but his heart skips a beat when he thinks of them. jade merely brushes it off as his excitement of shrooms

so the next time he makes a mushroom dish for yuu, the mushroom is poisonous and they suffer the effects of it. he's not even trying to hide what he did and he's actually more curious to see how they'd react.

but they accept his invitation to eat dinner again for some reason??? and his heart does another weird fluttery thing when they say yes but jade takes the opportunity anyway and poisons yuu again

this continues for a while and anyone would think that jade would've gotten bored of them by now, but he's... hanging out with them even more? and taking them on even more dates that don't include mushrooms, poisonous or not?

and honestly, even jade himself is surprised because there isn't a coherent reason to why he's doing these things with them. sometimes (before all this happened) he'd hold their hand and give a kiss or 2 just to see their disappointment when he didn't act lovey-dovey the very next day>> but he's been doing these romantic actions every day as their "poison mushroom dates" increased.

he still smiles when he kisses yuu but it's a different kind of smile. his heart is fluttering more and more often, his cheeks are turning pink when they hold his hand and he's feeling all kinds of things he's never felt before.

he lays in his bed one night thinking about yuu and he realizes he's fallen in love. he never expected this to happen but he smiles and giggles and tells his mushrooms all about his newfound revelation.

now whenever mushroom dates happen (which are sometimes still poisonous ofc), he feeds them to yuu with his own hand.

It was supposed to be another test of your limits, a slight apology for paying some attention to a visiting student he'd previously only shown to you. Has he truly been spending so much time with you that it is obvious you will be tagging along? And why does the idle thought that this could invite danger cause such a painful feeling- fear could it be fear that he is feeling? Over you?

Azul massages his temples as he lets out a truly painful sigh. "That's sort of the problem, have you even thought about what that means?" Jade increases the volume of his sobs. "Of course you haven't look, I will approve your request but please for the love of the sea do not do anything actionable?"

"I have no idea what you could possibly be implying." His cries magically dissipating as he happily goes to his room to look through his closet and prepare. ~~~~ Jade dreams of Yuu that night. He dreams of the plush of your lips and thighs, of the comforting grip of your hand as he walks down the hallway or along a trail, his mind is tortured with images of what he pictures your sleeping face to be like.

He awakes with the realization that he will soon know. Azul was right he had not thought about what any of this meant, of his actions, of yours. And if he must own the truth he still does not know what yours mean, and that scares him even if he laughs loud enough for Floyd to throw a pillow at his head.

"I love them." He whispers to the terrariums on his wall. "I love them." He vows to the mushrooms in his garden and the moon somewhere up in the sky over the seas. How unpredictable, how beautiful, how very much like him to not tell you why he insists on feeding you himself on your trip, or rests your head in his lap the next time you sleep off the poison. There is a process to these things, he thinks anyway, and Jade has been impolite enough to skip several steps. Perhaps, he idly thinks as he traces the size of your finger, you will let him skip several more? After all, there is so very much you deserve, and he is surprisingly willing to give.

Nikolai has been very clingy after what happened— He was always near you, touching you; holding your hand, having an arm around your waist, wrapping his hand around the back of your neck and rubbing circles on your skin, or hugging you from behind.

His hands needed to be on you, afraid that the second he's not watching, you'll disappear from his life.

When he's not physically there, your phone vibrates almost every five minutes with a message from him asking how are you doing, what class are in you right now, if you have eaten— Stuff like that.

There wasn't any second you could be alone, and it was becoming more and more overwhelming.

Of course, you understand that he's worried and that he doesn't want to lose you; but this is borderline obsessive, and as much as a part of you likes being taken care of, another part of you is afraid that this might get even worse.

He was trying to tie you with him; sinking you deeper into the darkness of the cage that was holding you back. The cage of your emotions.

You didn't know it, but he even has a location tracker that shows him on his phone exactly where you are— It eases his mind because what if, after knowing that there wasn’t a way out, you try to be free by other methods?

Nikolai knows you won't dare to kill him like he is was planning to do with Fyodor; There was no possible scenario in which you would stab him to death or poison his food. Plus, he could easily see through your intentions and it won't be easy to kill someone like him.

But you could hurt yourself.

If it wasn't him, then the only way to be free was by shutting down your whole system. By ending your life.

Of course, he was not going to let it happen. He's going to be watching your every move until he's sure you won't do something risky like that.

For now, he is taking good care of you.

“Whatcha doing? I'm about to go home. I want to make a quick stop to buy you snacks.”

You giggle on the other side of the phone and that's enough to make Nikolai excited. He wanted to be in your arms, smooching your face, feeling your warmth, hearing you laugh. God, his heart is beating too fast right now.

“I'm just… doing nothing.” You walk around the apartment as you speak with him, trying to sound excited.

“I miss you, baby. Can't wait to cuddle with you today…”

Ah, you hated how inevitably you felt warm and fuzzy inside.

“You love me, right, dove?”

Yes, you do. You love him so much that it's suffocating you. Nikolai is suffocating you. But you can't help but need more of him, his attention, his love, his touch. All of that awakens a bunch of emotions that you wish to get rid of so badly.

“Mhm… I do.” You whisper, and you can hear him giggle through the speaker.

“Wait for me, love.” He smooches the screen of his phone before ending the call, then, you throw your phone to the couch.

It seems like Nikolai didn't notice.

Suddenly, Tears rolled down your cheeks. You place your hand over your mouth to muffle your sobs as the crying intensifies to the point where your chest hurts and your knees buckle, making you fall to the floor. You curse under your breath for being so fragile.

God. Why this fucking feelings don't stop even before your last breath? Why do they only get worse? Love, anger, sadness, disgust. It's all so overwhelming that you're starting to feel dizzy and nauseous.

Slowly, you stand up, still trembling and with small steps you walk to your room, finding the rope you placed on the bed a few minutes ago before Nikolai called. A small breathy chuckle leaves your lips, but it sounds more like a broken whimper.

You stand before the bed, grabbing the rope with trembling hands, caressing the material— The image of Nikolai's face after he comes home, opening the door of the room to meet with your lifeless body, is stuck in your mind.

How his eyes would widen, how he would desperately pull you out of the rope and hold you in his arms, close to his chest as he cries and curses himself for not being able to do something to stop you. His knuckles would caress your cheeks while his tears fell to your face.

The thought of it hurts your heart.

A part of you wants to stay, to keep enjoying your time with him, however, the pit in your stomach was becoming unbearable.

You felt pity for Nikolai.

But you'll finally enjoy that freedom you wished so much, you'll finally get rid of these emotions that consume your very soul, you—

“Think you can escape me, huh?”

A deep voice tickles your ear, and the second you turn around you find Nikolai smiling, as if the sight in front of him was amusing. You instinctively take a step back, letting out a yelp as you fall to the bed.

“Darling, you know that is not the way to cope with your temporary problems.”

How did he get here so quickly when a few minutes ago you were on a call with him?

Right. Nikolai has his coat. Probably he ended up noticing your fake excitement and decided to go home to check on you first instead of going to a supermarket and buying you snacks.

He crawls to the bed, taking the rope from your hands and throwing it away.

“I told you, didn't I? You won't leave me.”

Nikolai's voice gets deeper as he speaks. He seizes your jaw a bit too harshly. Glaring down at you with a serious expression only to lean down and kiss your lips, then the tip of your nose, and finally your forehead.

“It hurts me… that you want to leave me so badly…” He snorts, looking away from you and biting his lower lip, holding back from something that you weren't exactly sure.

You look away as well, feeling ashamed, among many other emotions that curse your body right now.

What if Nikolai hates you now?

That was even worse— If the only human being that cares about you hates you, you wouldn't bear the pain that'll come along with that.

As your brain keeps creating possible scenarios that might happen after this incident, tears spill from your eyes down your cheeks and you hide your face with your hands; palms muffling the small sobs that escape your lips like before.

Suddenly, you feel a weight on top of you.

You peek through the gap of your fingers and meet with Nikolai’s face nuzzling against your chest; his nose tickling your collarbone. Large and strong arms that had carried you like a princess before, are now wrapped tightly around your waist.

“Don't leave me… I love you so much, please…” He whines against your skin, almost as if he wants to sink inside you and be enveloped in your embrace. “Please, dove, pleasepleaseplease…”

Another sob leaves your mouth— Nikolai's fingers clutch around your ribs, nails almost digging desperately into you.

Slowly, you slide your hands to his back, rubbing it in small circles as you keep crying against the top of his head, his white locks feel soft against your cheek.

Instead of comforting you, he was the one being comforted.

“You're not going anywhere, are you?” He looks up at you. It didn’t sound like a threat, but you knew it actually was.

You shook your head; it's not like you have an alternative.

Nikolai sighs, nuzzling back against you and closing his eyes. After noticing you stopped caressing his back, he nudges your side as an indication to keep doing it.

“…Dove, you’re mine… If anything, I should be the one to take your life away from you…” He mumbles, giggling as your breath hitches at his words.

You can't escape him anymore.

Am I an asshole for making fun of someone’s name and interests but then apologizing? I (16M) recently became friends with some people in my lunch hour. They are Z (17NB), M (18NB) and K (17M). M is dating A (18FTM), who i have met twice and had maybe two brief convos with, and he seemed sweet at the time. However, A is friends with the whole group, so they all know him and talk about him. We have joked in the past about the fact that A has the same nickname as one of my other friends. For the sake of fake names, lets say the nickname is Alex. I refer to my friend as Alex and Z,M, and K all call their friend Alex too. However, one day i called my friend by his full name- again, fake name, but lets say- Alexander. M makes fun of my friends name, saying its a bad name. In retaliation I jokingly say ‘your partners name is worse!’. A’s full name is a different spelling of a rather nice name, for this lets say its Alexyus (like Alexis). I mention that i like the name alexis, just say “but who spells it with a y!”. I also add, “plus theyre literally a dsmp and homestuck fan!”. OKAY BEAR WITH ME! i will fully accept and admit that thus far i have been an asshole. It wasnt okay for M to make fun of my friends name, but it also wasnt okay for me to make fun of their partner.

Anyways- no one seemed too upset by it in the moment, but later when i got home i received messages from M, K, and A. M’s had some odd sort of long copy pasta which basically said i hope you suffer, but it felt like a joke to me so just responded withh “i aint reading all that”. K’s message was wild tho- he said “i was just hoping you would kill yourself, overdose, hang yourself, or even just cut ur wrists. what is wrong with you, you fing freak!”. which is… wow! After i read the message i saw him edit it to add a “/jay” (meaning joking) at the end, but the original message had no indication of it being a joke. However, i accepted it as a joke because…. Why would he tell me to kill myself lol…. Anyways, A’s message was polite and formal, asking to talk about something i said earlier at lunch (A isnt in our lunch, he wasnt there when i made the comment about his name, but i assume M or K told him). I respond equally politely and we had a good conversation about it, i realized that it wasnt at all my place to make thats jokes or poke fun at A in that way, and i apologized. A said it was all good and honestly i was impressed with their forgiveness and maturity. I hoped A and i could become potential friends in the future, even. I was still peeved that K literally told me to commit suicide, but whatever yknow. The next few days at lunch were awkward but my other friend, Z, and me mostly just didnt talk to M and K. At some point my other friend, who i told about this, mentioned to K kinda offhandedly like “yo it was kinda fucked up u told (me) to kill himself..” and K informed us that he actually didnt send the message, it was A on his phone. M corroborated this story and then we left, but i was honestly so shocked.

Now i dislike and feel uncomfortable around M, K and A (although not Z, who agreed that what the rest of them did was not okay), because to me it feels like they all were okay and agreement of the message. But ultimately i’m really conflicted- it was definitely wrong of me to make fun of A (even if it was not meant to be serious, i dont know A well enough to joke like that), but i feel like telling me to kms is unjustified. Maybe it all is stupid drama tho, and i should just let it go?

I don’t think he’s a pervert. The anime certainly plays up his “creepiness” towards girls but overall he doesn’t really exhibit really perverted traits. I think he likes girls a lot, is easily manipulated by girls, and lacks a lot of social skills that would allow an average person to not act like that.

I think the main reason I don’t think he’s a pervert is because Zenitsu’s behavior doesn’t seem to be sexually driven. Not that he isn’t sexually attracted to women (he’s a teenager boy and clearly likes girls) but he’s very specifically looking for a wife and to live a normal life. We know he was taken advantage of by girls over and over again (presumably at an incredibly young age!) with seemingly no reward on his end (he didn’t even hold their hands!) and yet he kept doing it! This happened multiple times before Jigoro found him! On a conservative estimation, that’s 7 “girlfriends” by age 14, but honestly I think Jigoro rescued him at a younger age (there’s no way he learned all that and also got struck by lighting. There had to be some down time…also I’m writing a fic about that down time lol)

Anyway, I get the impression that Zenitsu believes he is expected to get married and thinks that it will resolve a lot of his internal problems if he can behave like a normal person and live a normal life. But as an orphan, he doesn’t really understand what a typical family or married couple looks like, it’s all based on perception or stories. Zenitsu craves affection and stability and honestly, why wouldn’t marriage be the best way to achieve that? I think a lot of the behavior is because he doesn’t really understand how he’s supposed to act and doesn’t realize how is is coming across in the moment. Zenitsu knows people don’t like him, but also doesn’t seem to be able to stop his reactions. Despite being perhaps the most socialized of his friend group, although he understands what is considered polite or acceptable he can’t actually adhere to those guidelines himself. Sorry, this is now a tangent about my perception of Zenitsu’s behavioral issues. I actually did touch on this in the second chapter of my Zenitsu character study! Jigoro asks why Zenitsu wants a girlfriend and he answers in a childish way about wanting to hold her hand and live in a house with her.

He does respect women though. He has a beef with Daki because she hurt a girl! There are also zero scenes of him ogling women while undercover at a literal brothel (he does get flustered when they first arrive to the city, but again it doesn’t seem like he’s sexually excited, he’s flustered about seeing beautiful girls and runs off because he’s overwhelmed) which they easily could have added if they wanted to. But they didn’t, because he’s overall very respectful towards girls. Especially after deciding that he likes Nezuko (who he likes because she is pretty and because Tanjiro describes her as being kind, kinder than any girl Zenitsu has “dated.”) In the light novel, he also fully respects when a girl he thought was into him was clearly involved in someone else. He understands that he misinterpreted her behavior towards him and wishes her the best in her relationship. He doesn’t seem to hold any ill will towards his ex-girlfriend either. The anime has him attempting to flirt with Aoi occasionally (although she is canonically the only type of girl Zenitsu doesn’t like) which I think it intended for laughs but idk if it’s very effective. He really does seem singularly focused on Nezuko in the manga (and according to the light novels, there are plenty of Corp Members who fantasize about having another Corp Member as their girlfriend, to the point that it doesn’t seem weird that he talks about Nezuko “waiting for him,” although the other members don’t think she’s a real girl at all)

IN SUMMARY I think Zenitsu likes girls in a perfectly normal, affection-starved teenage way, but he lacks emotional regulation which makes him seem off-putting. But he’s not perverted, he’s just enthusiastic and we’re used to having perverted anime men in shonen and just expect him to fall into that category despite his behavior not really matching that trope.

I would also argue that he cannot be a shameless pervert because he clearly feels a lot of shame, very often lol

Recently, everything had been piling on top of you, it was almost suffocating really. All you could do is try and cope with it, yet you weren't coping at all. Asking for help wasn't an option for you either. You didn't want to burden anyone with your problems after all they are just that, your problems. Recently you had leaned on your dear friends Enid and Wednesday, you felt you annoyed them with needing their help and support. They were lovely, yes Wednesday can be lovely once you get past the hard outer shell she had, but truthfully you felt like you infringed on their couple time and they saw you as this annoying cling on. So you'd avoid asking for help just to ensure you won't lose your friends.

You knew you were isolating yourself, you knew that wouldn't help you feel any better. You knew that. Yet you couldn't stop. No matter how hard to you tried to convince yourself, that it was okay to need someone's help, love and support, you just couldn't face the fact you'd be burdening them. After all why would they care about your problems?

You'd stop attending classes, opting to stay in your dorm wallowing and all in all crying until you couldn't cry no more, then you'd nap and repeat. This was day three now, you knew you needed to eat, drink some water and shower, yet the thought of leaving your bed was too overwhelming. That meant accepting you needed help. You knew that as soon as you got up and attempted to feel better, that you'd break down in guilt over pushing everyone away, and no one had checked on you yet so why should you bother?

Firm knocks sounded on your door and you immediately hid under your covers and tried to hold your breath. If you didn't make a sound they would leave. Right? Well wrong, Larissa Weems was determined to figure out why you had been skipping  class, after all this was extremely out of character for you. She was worried something bad had happened after being informed no one had seen you for three days. Meaning you hadn't left the room for a shower or to get food. Most concerning.

"Go away!" You mumbled hoping your foul mood would put the offender off. However, when the doorknob turned and you heard the creaking of the floor board you knew you had no such luck. "Oh sweetheart" she murmured taking in your room, truly it was as if a bomb had gone off, you in your hidden spot didn't see the waves of concern rushing over her. Larissa sat herself on the edge of your bed and murmured one last thing to you, "sweetheart when you are ready I'm here to talk okay? I want to help you darling."

Then silence was a comfortable one, only disturbed by the ticking of your bed side clock. Before you even knew it you were sobbing harshly once more, coming out of hiding and throwing yourself into the older woman's arms. She immediately embraced you and began to hush you with words of comfort, "oh sweetheart it's okay, you're gonna be okay. I'm here darling."

"Mm not too much?" You mumbled into her shoulder which was now drenched in your tears. "No darling not too much I promise you" she hummed, "and I never break my promises sweetheart." You sat in her embrace trying to soak in her words and gain the confidence to share your burden. "Feel like burden everyone and I feel unexplainably sad. Even getting dressed or showered or eating is a chore" you whimpered slightly feeling the emotional toll of your words, truly it did feel better now you had shared the burden. Obviously not magically disappeared, all better, but a little less intense and overwhelming.

You sat like that for a while until your stomach growled causing the headmistress to spring into action, "sweetheart you go grab a shower and I'll go down and get you something to eat and drink okay? Think we can manage that? And as a special treat I'll brush your hair and fix it however you wish okay?" Larissa Weems brushing your hair? Was this a dream come true?  "I'd like that momma, sorry I'm sorry I didn't" you whimpered feeling embarrassed at your slip up. "Hush sweetheart I don't mind and you can call me momma if you wish I feel like a mother too all my students" she reassured and made sure to flash you a genuine smile. "Darling shower time momma will be back soon" and with that she stood up to leave. "Thank you" was all you could whisper before the door shut, both of you feeling better than before her visit.

i honestly feel like i was born in the wrong era. either im too old for something or someone or im past the point of being able to achieve something. then when looking at how all these kpop groups are so young yet successful and talented just makes me question why i didnt do something like that.

we didnt have kpop in my school time but why couldnt i have just picked something and stuck with it? on top of it i believe im never going to fit anyones ideal type so whats the point in existing cause no one gonna truly get to know me.

unless i can somehow pass away before im 50 then i dont have to continue to think about all this shit and how i shouldve done better or i shouldve picked such and such a career and i shouldve tried to put myself out there more but in my age theres really nothing out there to seek when its all handed to younger generations.

and i would want to have my own success based on my own effort but have fallen short in so many ways its impossible to not find something i could do about it bc im too far behind and it does get to a point where you think that it is too late bc in order to gain any talent you have to have done it from a young age.

i dont want to rely on someone else to do it for me but i couldnt do it myself due to personal situations. yet i feel like thats an excuse cause once again all these young idols seem to be ro have something about them that makes their life a success. like yes the end inudstry is far from perfect but thats what people have been seeking themselves so it cant all be that bad all the time for them if these groups including older age groups have went out got success and even they get all the benefits of the super rich lifestyle but at the same time money doesnt bring true happiness and it seems a very shallow way they live sometimes, they have a supply and demand contract with their audiences and rely so much on social media which although i use it im not attached to it and i cant relate to obsessing over latest dance trend. i also want to stop the woe is me narrative but its really fucking hard to not feel so ashamed, behind or negative about things.

the most advice people gove is bog standard like if ur bored, go out more but its hard not to feel left out, if ur loney go find someone, if u dont have an income go get a job its literally never that simple. even in education you still have to pay for it as an adult meaning you have to already have a job but even then theres still means of you getting misjudged for your age and classmates have already done that to me before it wasnt that fun. its like saying to someone depressed to go take medicine to take away the feeling.

idk what im doing anymore besides waiting to randomly pass away so i can be done with this shite. sorry for ranting so much but idk who else to speak too bc no one else never seems to understand my frustrations with the way things have panned out.

Comparing yourself to others people archievement is the worst thing you can do. because we are all different, we all go through different shits (just like you rightfully said) and not all of us have the same opportunities presented. beating yourself up for that is a cruel thing to do wishing yourself.

It does also seem like you struggle a lot with self worth, self love and that is probably because never once someone complimented you for the things that you have achieve (to this point were you believe you havent achieved anything).

Love, hatred that you carry is a motivator, and you need to accept one thing. as long as you are breathing nothing is to late to archive, as long as you are here you should be kinder to yourself. because why are you comparing yourself to idols? I often say this here but when was it the last time you appreciated life? when was the last time you went out, stared at the ocean, at the night sky, breathed into a forest, when was the last time you felt a sense of peace? seek that out. dwelling on what we could have been is cruel hun, and not helping you in any kind <3

After another few months you will grow on him, as you were surprisingly nice and well feelings will just grow from there

this is like, canonical, but gojo's so fucking annoying LMAO like i just know he is the most obnoxious, can't-sit-still, sarcastic asshole on the planet. he really makes it hard to love him sometimes.

this....is not a spoiler for a fic i'm def not writing (wink wink) but i just don't think gojo could really properly fall for someone who was not powerful. like i think part of his distance from others is his (admitted) narcissism that is somewhat well-earned considering he is....gojo fucking satoru. he needs someone that is at least somewhat towards the top of their ranks in whatever they do.

i also feel like gojo would be encouraging to a fault? like always pushing you further towards your goals, stepping in obnoxiously if your boss doesn't notice you've been working your ass off for a promotion (again, annoying). like he won't rest until you've made progress.

we see him through the eyes of the kids/around his students in most of s1, and that's not to say he doesn't have the potential to be a playful, lighthearted person *when he wants to be*

but remember that scene of him talking to the jujustu higher-up where the guy tells him to watch his mouth and gojo laughs in his fucking face??

he's an egotistical, all-powerful, ballsy maniac. like gojo is not braiding your hair and cooing in your ear 24/7.

he is slowly backing you into a wall and taking what he wants from you. like sorry he just is.

also gojo strikes me as someone who is ....nasty. like, blood and knife play, gun play, psychopathic kind of nasty in the bedroom. idk if i would personally ever write that, but he's been through so much and seen so much gore you know that that's fucked with his....tastes, so to speak

i do think however that gojo would be absolutely devoted to his partner

like it would take him forever to come around and accept that he now felt responsible for protecting yet another person and that he had accidentally formed a connection (i see gojo as also having a very weird relationship with his humanity vs. his divinity but more on that another time)

but once he's around? he's in it for life. i mean, even if you don't ship stsg, you must acknowledge that gojo has never been willing to truly let geto go. he couldn't kill him, refused to believe geto had done that even though geto was showing signs of deteriorating mentally.

he's the same way with his partner. good luck breaking up with gojo because it's going to be a years long process.

gojo loves someone who can push back at him. he doesn't want an entirely submissive partner (kinda like eren!)

he likes someone who will put him in his place, has a sharp tongue, isn't afraid to stand up for themselves or others.

oooh if rambling is ok can i say a little something that veers maybe into overthinking territory abt early game astarion like you mentioned... a little farewell take before i stop bothering you fr ahsbdifn but we are vibing so hard on this i think

i think running an astarion origin playthrough at least in act 1 is a really interesting look into how he feels about the people around him, at least in terms of trust that early on. so like, you know how you get the option to confess to vampirism to any companion at any time starting the moment you recruit them? the narrator's dialogue and the confession changes based on your approval with that character. it only takes 20/barely out of neutral territory for origin astarion to think of his relationship to someone as "a strong bond" and he has to roll charisma not to fumble the confession after waiting a while to really trust in their acceptance. which is so sad!! hardly hitting medium approval is still close enough for him to consider the relationship a fairly strong one.

it’s kind of interesting to flip that around and think of his perspective on his relationship with the player character by the same measure when he's a companion, because ur SO right, it genuinely does not take much at all for their connection to overshadow. basically anything he's experienced in a long time. his approval sometimes jumps MASSIVELY just for listening to him and humoring some of his jokes, and being ok with his vampirism on top of that can rocket you straight into high approval. all of that means so much to him, where a lot of his other approval changes dealing with stuff out in the world net you a +/-1 most of the time.

it just seems like it really doesn't take long for him to think pretty highly of someone, imo! not that he knows how to approach that. for exactly the reasons you said: this is the first time in a very long time people (at least for the most part) aren’t outright dismissing or belittling him, and once his vampirism is out, he’s being tolerated if not accepted after revealing something that could very easily have gotten him killed if trusted to the wrong people. he gets to talk about things he probably hasn’t vocalized to anyone, ever, about cazador and his past and is potentially met with sympathy instead of scorn, and he’s free to joke about comparatively lighter topics like blood tasting menus or his more morbid “best ways to die” conversation. he’s still obviously on edge for so many reasons, but he’s also… kind of happy? vibing? experiencing some manner of positive emotion toward others? it’s so novel and unfamiliar to him to be treated like a whole person with inherent worth AS a person (rather than valued for his utility or some consumable aspect of himself) and have an entire group of people actually looking out for him, just as they reasonably trust him to look out for them, all without some kind of humiliating price tag attached.

like no wonder he’s suuuuper disoriented and flip-flops hard between vulnerability and trying to manipulate people well into act 2, even if he does like them. he just came out of a 200 year You Are Not A Person And Nobody Care You torture matrix and now people are treating him like a person and caring abt him. but he still feels like he has to pull strings to stay on top of things to survive because that’s how the world still makes any sense to him. idk. anyways! thank you again!! 🫡 i super didn’t mean for this to be an essay so like if you read any of that at all. i owe u my life.

okay so This Hurt Me because like. its true! astarion's main approvals early game are just. accepting him . as he is. his weird ass fucking conversations. not enforcing bitchass szarr's meal restrictions. not putting up with obvious manipulators (dream visitor aside because thats Power that he can use(even if u say u dont trust them tho he doesnt disapprove he just calls u my username LOL)) (u get +5 for threatening mizora and raphael) protecting the rest of ur companions from ppl that want to hurt them. protecting HIM from people that want him. like all of those are +5s/+10s and the only other +5 i can think of early game is letting him open the doors to the barn LOL and abdiraks display

but what im saying is like his main approvals are u protecting him, accepting him, and then like vocally and actively showing this off as opposed to passively if that makes sense. like i think a big part of it is being able to see someone who has no part of his old life, his old horrors, but still knows about them care for him. and also letting him make decisions. i dont like how i phrased it as "let" but idk how else to get that point across lol

like i was saying previously he'd really only been around vampires and those he seduced for centuries --so yeah hes gonna be a little warped. and those vampires were moreso "putting up" with him and he knows it. so to have you, a non-vampire, play along with his more,,, "macabre" conversations must be just. startling. because you two dont even have that common factor of vampirism, yanno? but being open to talking abt what ur companions taste like/how you would want 2 die must just be such a pleasant delight.,,,

"humiliating price tag" broke my HEART NONNIE BECAUSE YOURE SO RIGHT like that is obviously how he thinks of himself and his worth !!! like if u make him bite araj afterwards hes like "i didnt even second guess you telling me to do it. but afterwards it made me realize that im still primed to take orders" which is so-- aughuruhghgurugh.

and honestly i think manipulation is more than just a survival tactic in his life like its just . how he operates. so like u said in act ii where he is seesawing WILDLY between being as honest as he is capable of being to the point of vulnerability vs feeling like he needs to have the "upper hand" in his relationship with the player to guarantee his safety -- honestly i see this a lot in act i with the conversations u can have. because if ur having fun with him and not dismissing him, his last lines of the dialogue always seem like he stops himself midthought and is like "Wait. Must Manipulate" and turns on the charm and i lov it so so much because even earliest of early game in act i u can catch him off guard like that

because thats the thing right is that relationships, to him, early game is very much always going to contain a power imbalance. and its so so sosososooooooooooooooo amazing to see how clearly he was trying to be the one to Hold power, while still Feeling like he's the one being used -- he's manipulating us Into using him for protection, because thats the only thing he thinks he can offer. because relationships NEED to have some sort of offer to be worth it. but i was gonna say its amazing to see how that perception of relationships evolves thru the acts and how act ii confession scene and act iii post cazador scene hes holding himself as an equal to the player
