#the mechanisms #the mechanisms fanart #drumbot brian #art #digitial art #spent waaay too long trying to figure out how a robot body would move #bc humans are squishy! so much of how our movement works is based on the fact that our body parts can squish on top of each other #limb trying to move but the edge of the torso in the way? don't worry it'll just squish out of the way! #but brass doesn't squish!! i based him mostly off of ball jointed dolls #most obvious on his joints #but how his torso bends? man idk #also i had some ideas but god forbid i knew how to *draw* it #so his torso is in 3 sections (again: ball jointed doll) and then his rib section #has a back and front piece connected internally with hinges (which allows his sides to bend inwards for foward arm movement) #his shoulder blades as you can see are squares attached with hinges attached externally with hinges which allows his torso to bend back #which allows his arm a greater range of movement backwards without having 360 movable shoulder joints #1) bc carmilla probably tried to recreate human range of movements and idk who needs to hear this #but humans do not have 360 shoulder movement #2) relying on the ball joint for movement only is weak. for the strength of the attachment #2a) you have to pick between flexibility and strength when it comes to attaching 1 thing to another thing bc the more something moves- #-the less points of anchorage you have #2b) the brass of his upper arm and shoulder would constantly be rubbing against each other slowly wearing both away #which for an immortal brass maybe isn't the BIGGEST concern but i can't imagine it's very comfortable. so mitigate it #i might actually draw out a diagram of how i think Brian works. and it will be different from this drawing #bc tbh i did not put a ton of thought into it for this drawing. i would of torn my hair out #speaking of hair: brian's is made of copper wire. you ever part the hair on a doll and see bald head? yeah same situation with brian

Nimoma has good emotional payoff and animation but nothing else to really write home about TBH

It's very SPOP in that way, where the arcs and scenes are solid when viewed outside of the media in gifset or clip form but don't work as well when actually watching what they're from

For sure! I think that's a problem she-ra and toh both share with Nimona—they struggle with setup but then go ham on the payoff, which leaves everything feeling somewhat unearned.

The end of the movie bugged me in particular—Ballister's 180 with calling Nimona a monster (something he KNOWS pushes her to the brink) after one conversation with his ex-boyfriend was...I think out of place?

Normally if you have a character make a wrong choice like that you, as the audience, would be questioning the whole movie if they had ever REALLY changed. Was Ballister's loyalty truly to Nimona or to the Institute/Goldenloin? But, by that point in the movie they had really sold me on Ballister's complete acceptance of Nimona and disregard of the institute, so....why would he turn on Nimona then? I'm surprised they didn't do this plot the other way, which would instead have only made it seem like Ballister betrayed Nimona, you know? Like they did in Tangled. That way you don't undo Ballister's movie long arc with one scene, but you can still have Nimona go berserk and make her way into the heart of the city.

There were also a couple of other things that felt kinda dropped by the end. Ballister being the first commoner to become a knight? The Queen's important role in this society? This kingdom's prejudice going SO deep that not even a child would give Nimona a chance after saving their life, yet blowing up the wall changed everyone's minds in the end?

There were a lot of good pieces, but they weren't quite put together in the right ways.

For no reason. #God and Nimona being 1000 years old makes a lot of her actions kinda weird. She feels so 14 to me yet she's immortal afssf #Also just not that big a fan of the trope where it's revealed ''this ancient legend was actually kids the whole time!!!'' #but I know that's just my tastes #HOWEVER. I also think it made the movie weaker in certain aspects. #Prejudice is learned. The good ol' pitfall with spikes at the bottom, and then you gotta put like a lid on it that also has spikes. Like an iron maiden type thing. Basically just make it spikes on all sides! They might be able to make themselves real small to avoid being hurt tho 😔

But hey, while they're trapped, light a fire under that shit because even if they aren't getting poked they sure as fuck can't get away from the heat <33 or cold you could also freeze it whatever suits your fancy

Trap them completely underwater. They can turn into a fish? What if that water is acid instead, or molten metal :) And you can let that metal cool and then wow you have a fun mold!!!

I am now remembering that maybe they shouldn't die, but you can still do less intense variations of some of this stuff, trapping them in a metal box and getting it hot or spraying acid on them where they can't avoid it

They might be able to shift out of restraints, but what if I impale them on the ground with a piece of rebar, huh. what then

Give them a nice brand or marking that's visible no matter how they shift, so you'll always know it's them

At the crossroads between wondering if it's worth it to basically completely rewrite all my WIPs or just take a break from writing for the rest of the summer

playing around with how healing works for Lucia ft. a sick eye scar... It works as a little bit less of a "get outta jail free card" but still makes her a little more durable/capable of bouncing back than a normal human would be.

Some important notes;

She heals at a normal human pace unless she drinks blood, followed by a period of heavy sleep depending on the extent of the damage.

Body parts that are lost can be regained only after drinking blood, but the scars left behind don't fade completely. Basically, it restores her to a functional state, but she's too human for it to be as if it never happened, UNLESS she drank from a live human, as opposed to a blood bag.

In cases where something like her eye is able to heal back, she'd lose her normal amber color and it would come back red, like a vampire's (sick heterochromia dude!!).
