SHAMELESS OPINIONS: S7 (cause Mickey's write off hurt and after s5, I watched again from s1 and forced myself to keep watching + no one around me likes Shameless so I need a place to vent)

overall: i actually loved it, had me pretty hooked all throughout

ok, i kind of like s7 Trevor, he's charming, got this lil sassy banter going off, he's cute and nice y'know. I just *HATE* that they so obviously tried to recreate some dynamics he had with Mickey straight away without letting us warmup to him, how can you deepthroat aspects built from 5 seasons into half of one??? No. Sorry. Him settling so quickly into the Gallagher house as if he's spent a decade there, idk. And the patient scene with Ian? foh man, no. 1x09 was special for a reason, and this would've played differently if Ian actually came to Mick if he was still around. They play out so much better as friends or fw/b ig but that deepthroat can't help me see a relationship between them. Not liking s8 Trevor so far, my god. Also his nonchalant attitude towards Monica threw me off. I get it, he's new and doesn't know much, Ian never mentioned her before apparently, but like "she's a lil crazy i can like her" eek, idk. Like almost downplaying his situation with her.

Caleb can suck my ass along with JW and his hate for bisexuals. My bi ass cannot approve. Cheater McCheater my ass. I can almost walk through Ian's ignorance cause for all he knew, Caleb was just gay, and I feel he said the bisexual thing out of frustration and betrayal towards his actions than actual disdain for the orientation, but yes. He was ignorant in his convo with Lip, and so was him anyway. I guess they just didn't know it is a thing. But thing is, I BET YOU ASSES that Caleb is the type of douche to STILL justify his actions even if JW didn't display his hate towards bisexuality in his writing, he just is *that* douchy. At least he motivated Ian to get his job, I'll give him that.

OH MY GOD THE THROUPLE... AND ITS SLOW BURN. it's hard cause you can understand both sides of the situation and it was just a clear issue of misunderstandings and miscommunication... I just wish they could've handled things better because I was really rooting for them. They fucking worked so well, with their little schedules and organization. I have such a fat crush on Isidora it's actually embarrassing. Anyway... I miss their dynamic. They deserved better.

Lip was a dick to Fiona about the Laundromat, but Fiona also just jumps the gut to these impulsive decisions, and I get that if she does ask for opinions, they probably won't agree with her, and it's not like I can blame lip, I mean look at the Club situation, yeah she made profit, but didn't break even, and that where his worry comes from. But at least, if she still approached him, and did it anyway against his say, he can't rub it in her face that this entails a family meeting and she can't just make those decisions without consultation. Overall, Lip was so arrogant and dickish with her, and for what... he couldn't even bring the money he so desperately wanted her to believe he could.

I love Sue. I just love EMT Ian stuff with all my life, idc what it is, I kick my feet cause he's so happy.

I fucking loved Carl and Mr. Luthers dynamic. Such an epic lil duo tbh.

I loved Frank's storyline here fsr 💀💀 it's so silly and he gets his way like always, but idk, I loved seeing his adventures at the shelter, he still remains a POS that's for sure.

I fucking LOVED seeing Debbie this season, I was a little disappointed last season cause there is so much lost potential on her pregnancy journey last time with where she was staying, but I fucking loved her here and putting her scamming skills to the test. Don't love how she ends up treating Neil in s8 cause... Well, I just feel bad for him, but also, if she really wanted to stay true to her convenience relationship, she probably should've stuck it out more so it lasted more, idk. But enough of that, I loved her setting a goal for herself at the end of the season, and I honestly commend Monica for helping her get Franny out of the house, I understand Derek's family's concern but they were so cunty in how they handled things.

Monica's death hit me like a truck... Idk why, there are so many mixed emotions here, she couldn't dare to tell the kids the real reason she was there, and all she wanted was to be there one last time. My heart goes out to her tbh.

Gallavich. Oh dear God. FERAL, FERAL EVERY TIME. it's like receiving crumbs and eating them up like a vacuum, nothing I can say that hasn't already been said... I just... Wow. Fuck. And to know that, after needing Noel for ratings, that this was gonna be the end for them? No, I could throw up. I couldn't imagine watching shameless as it aired with that knowledge in mind. FUCK ME THOSE TWO EPISODES I ATE THEM UUUP. anyway, I'm normal about Gallavich.

Lord bless Etta... my dear soul. 7x11 was vicious for that, my heart crumbled fr. I can see this was all in Fiona's best interest for Etta and stuff... It was just so sad to see.

Lip and Sierra, I don't really know what people's opinions are about Sierra but I kind of liked her? She was sweet, and had traces of boundaries with Lip even if the fucker attempted to break them every now and then. But she was sweet.

Lips second spiral was even harder than the first one to see. Him crashing at Helene's apartment, and she still doesn't seem to grasp that she essentially groomed him, and he's just so devastated still. Fuck.

That ending montage was truly a piece of cinema I tell you. It was beautiful.

I probably have more to say I don't remember but I really liked s7, not on the priority of a constant rewatch, but it was really good...and truly served as the finale it was meant to be. EXCEPT FOR GALLAVICH, holy fuck that would've pained the whole audience.

a bit about myself: she/her. I'm currently in my late 20's and have been writing/roleplaying in some shape or form for 12+ years. i'm in grad school (and will be for awhile) and work full time in mental healthcare. occasionally, days are wild.

when it comes to writing, i generally write somewhere between 500-1k words a post. the shorter the post, the faster i can write. i definitely value someone who's writing fits with mine over length or anything like that. i'm also super flexible when it comes to post rate. if it takes a little bit, that's totally fine! especially if we do build a rapport. i want this to stay as something that's fun for both of us. it's a hobby, so it comes after everything else.

doubling. i play a canon for you, you play one for me, and i love every character as my own. OR we both play two ocs who fall in love against their will. Idc.

I feel like a basic bitch lmao XD Yeah, sue me, but bruise is nice. I like their close friendship and I like writing them having a playful banter dynamic. It's my favourite Cole ship. IDK what my favourite Jay ship is, I'm open to propaganda if you wanna convince me of something.

But TBH, I don't know if I'd really write a bruise fic solely about them? I just don't have a ton of ideas for them on their own. It just feels like their characters have changed too much post reboot from what I remember and I just don't know if I'd able to capture them properly, especially super uwu and annoying Jay. I'm not gonna say never, because maybe someday I'll have an idea or two. But for now, I have other projects I'd rather focus on.

BOOK 6 PART ONE SPOILERS

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I feel like talking about book 6, so here are my thoughts

(Including some screenshots)

TW: Swearing and a little bit of violent language

I apologize in advance for the lack of organization, it skips around a lot and it isn't really proofread either.

Book six low key feels like a fan fic. Idk if it's because I read it all at one and my brain isn't registering it yet or if I've just been anticipating it for too long.

Not saying it's bad or anything, I actually really like it so far, it's just different from the rest of the books.

Omfg it's halarious, it's pretty much Idia babysitting the overbloted students meanwhile everyone (including Idia) is complaining about everything.

Ortho's voice in the beginning sounded weird to me. I've been spoiled on book six before it came out in En, and if what I saw was right or if I remember correctly it might be relevant? Not sure though, but to not spoil anything not out in En yet, I won't elaborate.

Speaking of Ortho though:

Yes Ortho, the target has to be alive. I love you but if you kill my cat I swear to whatever deities you believe in the consequences won't be pretty.

Also Crowley's voiced response is so funny to me, he just screeches.

M/c's house is even more ramshackle now, and has a giant cauldron in the floor (thanks Deuce).

Speaking of Ramshackle, Vil pays each VDC member either 50,000 marks or their share of 50,000 marks (before STYX comes btw), but most of them end up donating it to fixing up Ramshackle and refurbishing it.

Although most of that money is probably going to go to rebuilding it now...

I love how one of the dialogue options in that chapter was referencing the huge cauldron in the middle of the lounge.

Epel speaks a lot more country like in this book and I love it, yes king yee haw.

Who was going to tell me Rook has 5 siblings?? Who?? And he's the third oldest of like 6??

(I can only imagine what the rest of them are like lol)

His family also has magic teleportation pads across Twisted Wonderland, because his ancestors liked to travel??

"The more I learn about you the more mysterious you become." - Epel's reaction to those Rook bombshells.

We also learn Rooks unique magic, although like Trey and Jamil it's diffrent in English than in Japanese.

But Arrow Afar sounds kinda cool though, I like it better than I See You. Unlike Trey and Jamil I think it's an upgrade. (Doodle Suit and Snake Whisper are so much better than Paint the Roses and Snake Charmer smh)

Arrow Afar lets Rook track the location of what or whoever he casts it on which is really fitting for his character. I thought his unique magic would explain the uncanny amount he knows about literally everyone, but apparently not.

Rook also magics the M/c a Pomefiore dorm uniform and one of the player dialogue options are "I can feel my posture straighten just from wearing this"

We also find out why Rook wanted to go to STYX, and it was to make sure Vil got his skincare products. That's it. Epel followed him because he was pissy. And M/c just wanted to talk to Grim.

Tbh I love the Epel Rook bonding time we got out of book 6 so far, I love the dynamic they have.

When they breached STYX and told Idia why they were there, Idia really said "Me and the boys at three am looking for B̵̳̫͇͈̞̝͖͒̅Ę̸̡͇̹̻̙͉̮̪͕̱͖̏̂A̶̺̤͓͑̇́̂N̸͖̟̺̤̣̱̣̠̊͐̔́́̒̾̐̕͘ͅS̵̢͎̳̳͓̤̜̓͜͜"

Idia made Grim cry. I don't care if it was indirectly, I'm going to break his kneecaps /j.

His robots also knocked Ace and Deuce unconscious and I just want to make sure they're ok, we left before they woke up. I wanna make sure they're ok??

Crewel also referred to them their actions as "phenomenally stupid".

When the Charon bots abducted Azul it was kinda funny seeing Idia just casually chatting to them. Like everyone was fighting for their lives for all they knew and Idia is just like "You gotta chill out a bit, someone's gonna sue you..."

It's pretty much cannon now that if you lock two or more NRC students in a room together, they will without a doubt pick a fight with each other /hj.

I can't add anymore images to this post but trust me when I tell you Idia shipped the students in a cargo crate together like they just came out of the movie Madagascar.

Riddle was on top of Leona during shipping and when Leona told him he was squishing him Riddle replied with "I was wondering what that muscley pillow was."

"Yeah, tell that to they guy whose lap you've been snoring on for three hours." - Leona

After discussing what they knew about the situation and Idias involvement, Azul comments that if he had known, he would have tried harder to get Idia indebted to him. And then I believe it was Jamil or Riddle who commented about his one track mindedness.

What happened to Crowley?? Charon took him as well, but he's only mentioned like once after and no one confirms that he is or isn't at STYX.

We learn about the Shroud curse, and that it eats the any blot that accumulates in them but without a constant blot production, it would start to eat their magic. We also learn that that's why Idia and Orthos hair is fire.

Idia also mentions the blue flame of Grims ears and that Grim is cursed too, but he can't figure out what the effects are, who casted it, or why. But he says that it's a very old curse.

We learn more about how blot works and about the phantoms (the monsters that appear behind the overbloted students).

The amount of cryptic likely foreshadowy comments were astronomical.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head and from any screenshots I took, so let me know if I forgot anything worth mentioning and I'll try and add it in.

anyways. i'm trying to decide where to put skizz and joel in the hermitcraft blaseball au.

skizz's team is already decided (he's on the lovers, duh). yes that's his team in the life series au too, it's not my fault he has a brand. i made these aus before secret life even started.

but joel is harder to decide so i'm giving the choice to you all, who i trust with joel opinions more than i trust myself.

i'll add my reasoning for the teams provided below the cut, alongside a list of all the other options, including which hermits are on which team if putting him on the same team as certain people matters to you.

tokyo lift: other hermits already on the team include stress and false, who i think he'd have a fun dynamic with. i'm pretty sure the lift had a cyberpunk theme, as does joel this season. if he's on the lift i can justify drawing him with a pink streak instead of a green one. i'm also feeding into his ego here and putting him on the strong team.

yellowstone magic: he would be teammates with zed here, and i just think they would be very funny together. i can also justify dying his hair pink here, though it's much more magenta. also i think shrek would've lived in yellowstone. idk it feels right.

kansas city breath mints: i think joel would fit in with them vibes-wise (which is to say i think he would fail the bar exam). but i mostly included the breath mints in the poll because he would be teammates with cleo and gem.

breckenridge jazz hands: it would be pretty funny to shove joel in a room full of band kids, theater kids, resident mean girl iskall eightyfive, and xisuma. just imagine it with me. however. know that if you vote for joel to be on the jands, he will be making a brief cameo in my pearl/netty/jimmy precog trio fic that i'm working on as jimmy's replacement on the jands when he dies. for flavor!

anyways, other options!

hades tigers: only hermit teammate would be exil x, which is inherently a little hilarious. anyways these guys live in hell- not really. but they ARE fireproof!

mexico city wild wings: would make him teammates with hypno. all i really knew about the wings was spicy milk (exactly what it sounds like) and the time they tried to sue the entire league so. keep those facts in mind.

chicago firefighters: would make him teammates with tango. and also he would be a firefighter now. like, the profession. blaze joel afterlife smp likers i feel like this would appeal to you somewhat.

atlantis georgias: would make him teammates with xb. if he ends up on the georgias i'm turning him into a sea creature of some kind, so vote for what creature that is if you vote for this option.

philly pies: no hermit teammates here. all i remember about the pies off the top of my head is that they won the first two seasons of blaseball and then proceeded to never win a championship again.

new york millennials: would make him teammates with mumbo. and also housemates, because all the millennials live in an infinite apartment together, which feels appropriate for magic mountain. i could also make him pink here. however putting him on the mills would require me to type millennials more often, which is a word i cannot ever spell. would you do that to me? (/j)

seattle garages: would make him teammates with joe. one large band. if joel joins the garages i will be making him play the drums, of course. also i'll need to decide which garages song(s) i think he wrote.

dallas steaks: would make him teammates with beef. i don't know if i trust joel at a grill enough for this but i also don't know if i don't trust him.

san fransisco lovers: would make him teammates with ren (team captain), skizz, and wels. wow you've found one of the hermit hot spots. anyways this would put him in a medieval-themed, team-wide polycule.

core mechanics: would make him teammates with doc and keralis. i do think this would be an extremely funny trio. these guys live in the core of the world and build cool robots and things.

hellmouth sunbeams: would make him teammates with impulse. the moab desert fell into a hellmouth in season 1, so all the beams are Weird now. joel joining the beams would also make him Weird.

houston spies: would make him teammates with pearl. netty and jimmy were also spies before they died but idk if that'll be relevant to joel idk when i'm inserting him into these teams. anyways top secret escapades on the spies. also they have a secret base on the moon.

miami dale: would make him teammates with scar. the dale are the party time capital of the world and were the last team to ever make the playoffs, qualifying for the first time in SEASON FIFTEEN OF TWENTY FOUR. they never won an internet series but that's less of an accomplishment.

la unlimited tacos: would make him teammates with grian. the tacos tried to do a strike against god one time (it didn't work out but i respect the commitment)

boston flowers: no hermit teammates here. this was my team when blaseball was running and it would make me happy to put a hermit on it but it doesn't feel right for joel unfortunately. i can be convinced, however.

ohio worms: would make him teammates with wormman (aka zedaph in a disguise) and be coached by tfc. the worms are worms. they're in the dirt. self explanatory.

hawai'i fridays: would make him teammates with bdubs. this is also esmp 1 joel's team in the empires au which isn't relevant but is a fun fact (esmp 2 joel is on the lovers). the fridays have a cool goddess and good vibes. except for that time they all died. don't worry they got better.

canada moist talkers: would make him teammates with etho. i don't know if joel could survive in the cold but maybe i'm wrong maybe he'd be fine. maybe he's withstand it just to stake his claim as #1 ethogirl.

charleston shoe thieves: would make him teammates with cub and jevin. would also (maybe) make him get cursed by god but don't worry about that part, worry about the thieves guild he's joining.

baltimore crabs: would make him teammates with helsknight only. also inherently hilarious. this is the divorcee zone also there's a long dead crab goddess in the chesapeake and if you join the crabs parts of your body will slowly turn into crab. we have fun in baltimore.

Differences between Luxiem, Noctyx, and Iluna I’ve noticed

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve first started watching Nijisanji and with me mostly watching Luxiem and onward, I thought I would share a couple of things I noticed. These may be wrong but I’m mostly going off of what they’ve directly told us so far, that and the power of context clues!! So if I get something wrong don’t sue me uwu. I can’t be there for EVERY stream for EVERYONE so sorry if I missed anything.

Out of all three, Noctyx has the best Japanese skills and the highest amount of fluent/semi-fluent speaking members (Yugo, Sonny, Alban ect) vs Shu and Ike

Luxiem is a lot more proper about organizing collabs and whatnot compared to the more recent groups

In terms of slang and age, I say Iluna is the most relateable to their demographic (not their target audience. Nijisanji EN stated that their stuff is mainly targeted at adults so I say 2004 and up).

Iluna is the most open about their ethnicities and Luxiem is the most open about their sexualities (Ik Uki is out-out but Mysta, Ike, and Vox have talked about it on stream like it was no big deal which we love)

Noctyx sticks to the entire “senpai, kohai, kyodai” thing the most from my experience. Iluna seems to be sticking to it also and following in their footsteps

All three of these groups are v much pro lgbtq+ !!! Like a lot (maybe it’s cause they are also fruity af)

I noticed that Noctyx plays the most fps games as a group. Ik Selen plays bunches of Apex, Valo ect but they’re the ones who do it the most out of everyone. Esp Alban and Sonny.

Iluna is doing a lot of non-game streams (both planned and already streamed). Scarle’s boba stream, Aia and Maria’s drawing streams ect.

Luxiem has done the most drinking streams so far, with Ike and Vox being the top offenders. ( Luca n Mysta are lightweights so I get why maybe they wouldn’t wanna do them often).

Noctyx has the deepest interactions with their lore, be it Uki w his lore based song or Fulgur with his literal lore fanfics (idk what they’re called but I watched the one w Alban’s voice acting in it and oh my god??? It’s so intricate)

Iluna’s geographical audience seems to be mostly western, while Noctyx and Luxiem have more overseas fans (Asia!)

Speaking of geography, Iluna is (mostly) the closest to each other, runner up being Luxiem. With Maria and Ren both being Australian and under the assumption the rest of Iluna live in NA. Ike, Mysta, and Vox also living fairly close to each other only leaving Luca and Shu in AU and the US.

Luxiem has the pickiest eaters :p NijiDab/NijiSus off collab proved them weak!! (Kidding kidding, but it was funny to hear Mysta and Luca refusing to eat the simplest foods hehejejejd can’t believe I can take them out with a pickle or vegetables in general.)

Noctyx n Iluna are so flirty with each other😭😭 Uki n His HOESSS bro. And Ren w his unintentional harem??? Why are psyborg and Ren/Aster like this ??? My god stop being in love on main (it’s really fun to see their dynamics tho, get you a friend that will treat u right!!)

Speaking of Iluna and their antics, they’re the most chaotic. Like my god, the constant back and forth banter and then the whiplash from every other member is outstanding.

NOT that anyone cares. but here is everything i’ve watched for the october horror challenge i’m doing so far ranked by how much i liked them

1. free watch: unfriended. LOL i love this movie no one will ever change my mind i find it very realistic and actually kind of scary i cannot lie.

2. possession: the conjuring. always hits idk there’s just something comfy and classic about it. when i first watched it when i was like 19 i was like “tch this just uses every trope 🙄” but now that’s what i like about it <3

3. black horror: wendell & wild. i went back and forth debating over if this counts as horror but ultimately i decided it counts because there’s a prompt on this challenge for pg-13 films, which this was! super fun and ofc visually stunning, key & peele were easily the best part and i wish they’d been featured more

4. female directed: saint maud. i think morfydd clark’s performance sells this movie and i may not have enjoyed it as much without her. a little bit meandering but the end did get to me

5. slasher: you’re next. unfortunately didn’t love quite as much as everyone seems to, but i still liked some elements. i just wish it leaned more into the strained family dynamic bc that’s like my favorite angle. funny to see ti west in a scarf

6. indie: color out of space. LOVED some aspects of this but a lot of the others really fell flat. nicholas cage surprisingly missed for me in this, he brought a very strange goofy energy that just took me completely out of the (very good!) horror aspects. thought the actors playing the kids were soooo good though

7. religious: devil. look it’s so goofy and stupid and bad but i had more fun watching it than the below movies SUE ME i will always have a little bit of fondness for every shyamalan movie, no matter how much of a flop it may be

8. home invasion: the purge. wow i had such fond memories of the purge but actually….it’s bad :0? the concept is AMAZING but everyone in this universe is apparently just ready to murder children like at a moments notice. also bad acting unfortunately

9. 5th in a franchise: nightmare on elm street 5: the dream child. literally incoherent. no clue what was going on. even the kills were so chaotic and messy that i couldn’t really follow what was even happening :/ robert always brings it tho

okay i feel like you knew this was coming but. the last kingdom.

omg i am SO SORRY IN ADVANCE, also i have really only started the osmosis process a few months ago because so many of my rop mutuals seem to be into tlk. it's set in ... i wanna say 7th or 8th century England, but please do not burn me at the stake if I'm multiple centuries off. girl help my historical specialty is like, bronze and iron age greece, i'm probably way off here. i think it's based off novels by that Bernard guy??? what else has he written? i think I tried reading one of his books in high school and was bored to tears. oops.

the fandom generally seems to dislike the protagonist uhtred, who might be a fail white man and is also possibly a mary sue, either way he's surrounded by better characters. everyone seems to love aethelflaed, who is very beautiful, maybe i do have an osmosis crush on her. there are a lot of confusing names on this show so i admit i googled her name because i ALMOST called her aethelred but that's a man who is apparently a king (is that her father???) and i blame ur username for throwing me off on that one. idk there are a lot of characters here to deal with!!!!! too many ae- names i think!!!

i am aware of the queen/knight dynamics between aethelflaed and the guy with a terrible haircut. al something. i am so sorry but i will not sully this response with a 2nd google. they have a cool dynamic but never are actually lovers onscreen and i agree with kat that actually consummating the relationship would be worse than the sexy fucked up devotion/loyalty/fealty thing they have going on. anyway the scene i am most aware of (because of kat) is that they're heading into battle and their odds are bleak and she orders him to kill her in case she gets captured but the moment comes and he can't do it!!!! now THAT'S devotion!

uhh there is also apparently a small and niche but very passionate group of ot3 shippers with the two of them and some other guy, possibly a king of some sort? @aadmelioraa and @wildwren have definitely explained it to me before and i gotta admit i'm into the dynamic. there's also a cool looking ... priestess... pagan... lady... named skald? skyld? skuld? sk-something i am SO SORRY FOR BUTCHERING THIS anyway she's been in a lot of gifsets lately but i think she dies?? i think someone said RIP in one of those gifsets?? i Really truly do not know any more about her but imho she's hot

umm okay coming up on the end of my knowledge but Brida is the brunette who's very pretty and might be in a relationship with Uhtred but I think she dies...??? the show ended after season 5 but there's a movie called seven kings must die coming out and i did see the trailer for that but given that i clearly do not know very much about this show i was very confused about what was going on <3

rewatched ep10 and honestly it is growing on me. enjoyed it a lot more this time. extremely long meta post (almost 4k) spoiling pretty much everything under the cut.

the visenya birth scene is harrowing and rhaenyra rocking her dead girl in her arms... emotional devastation.

i wish we'd had more time with rhaenyra's internal conflict over what to do. i wanted to see her angry and more visibly torn over duty (she is her father's chosen heir and aegon a wanker) vs duty (the 7K united for the future winter). i wanted to see her in full ugly grief mode. but on rewatch it's like... she can't!! no full ugly grief mode for her because she has to hold her shit together, because she has to hold everything else together and daemon is too busy having his own unhinged breakdown to be of any help whatsoever (he's more of a problem lbr). i'm pretty sure she spends most of the ep wishing she could just have her own breakdown over her dead dad, her dead baby, her ex bestie betraying her, and daemon's skyrocketing level of unhingedness, but she simply fucking can't because if she does everything's going to explode in her face.

on monumental miscommunication: the show this week local couple completely fails to understand each other's positions because they are not operating from the same set of variables and unaware of it: she thinks he knows about the aegon prophecy of winter, he has zero idea there even is an aegon prophecy to know until she drops the bomb. on rewatch it is really rewarding to see how much the aegon prophecy informs rhaenyra's position on everything and how much it *doesn't* informs daemon's.

i still kinda wish we'd had more of a follow up on rhaenyra choosing fear with the laenor fake murder to hitch up with her uncle because so sue me i was absolutely there for the unhinged partners in love, politics & war crimes kind of dynamic but then again. the situation in ep10 is not at all what rhaenyra was planning for at the time. she wanted people to be afraid of the shit they could pull, so that no one would be too much of a problem when the time came for her to take the throne, and for that daemon's reputation and overall daemon-ness was an asset. or at least looked like one to her (it wasn't an asset, like ok sure intimidation factor but also it'd have lost her the support of people who weren't fans of the idea of daemon ruling, and people absolutely would have believed daemon was the one who called the shots. also it near lost her the velaryons and the velaryons are the main fleet. the math was bad). instead turns out she has to decide between duty (she is her father's chosen heir and aegon a wanker) vs duty (the 7K united for the future winter). the fact that daemon is the sort to war crime first and think later (on top of the prophecy miscommunication fail) isn't really an asset in this situation it's more of a huge fucking problem.

even if he knew about the prophecy... he'd probably be a bit more understanding of her position, and her his, but i don't think it'd have changed things that much because *if* he'd bought it, he would have fixated on the part about a targ sitting on the throne being necessary, and he would argue alicent's kids aren't targ enough so of course rhaenyra has to go to war to park her ass on the throne. they would then have a huge row because rhaenyra would say oh are you saying my boys with not-laenor aren't targ enough??

idk what to think about rhaenys 'i came to warn you out of loyalty to my husband and to my house' it really bugged me on first watch because she's a targ too ffs buuut she's been ambivalent about rhaenyra for a while (pretty reasonable what with her thinking rhaenyra had her son killed to hitch up with daemon) so... guess it works. and it makes sense that the thing that actually gets her on rhaenyra's side in the end is not being gung-ho about war because that'd have been why she didn't try to push her claim & go to war herself after viserys got chosen by the lords as the new king on the basis of *checks notes* having a dick.

otoh the thing with rhaenys not wanting war probably for the good of all is the same thing with alicent's 'a true queen counts the cost to her people' (alicent you are bad at math and if you *had* done that you would have looked at aegon and gone eeehr. that was a bullshit line) which is that rhaenys also smashed a bunch of peasants just last episode because none of these people ought to actually care about the masses (other than rhaenyra, but only in the sense that she knows about the aegon prophecy -- caring about adverting the end of the world and the death of humanity isn't really the same as caring that people don't die in your war for power) they are medievish rulers, they ought to believe in absolutism AND other than alicent they're all targs, they also ought to have liked subscribed followed on targ exceptionalism.

jace being mean to luce when they're having their bit of training on the beach makes me sad but on top of "send us" being his idea it's just gonna make him even more devastated. like not only was it idea for them to be their mom's envoys but also the last time they had bro time he was a meanie to luce… the sheer amount of angst he's gonna carry around next season!!

kind of funny: the fact that daemon and rhaenyra did not take five to discuss their options / air shit out & have daemon update her on what he's been doing already (ravens sent etc) in private before the war council (part one) around the extremely awesome-looking candlelit painted table. it's giving me ep3 rhaenyra & viserys public fight vibes. same mistake of making dissension a public spectacle, which in this case is pretty bad optics-wise. everyone can see rhaenyra doesn't know what moves daemon already made, and that they are not in agreement at all. most likely it's because they are pissed at each other and also grieving (but mostly pissed). and probably no amount of discussion would have gotten them on the same page, but at least they wouldn't have had a fight in front of everyone five minutes after he crowned her. maybe they could also have avoided the huge miscommunication issue re: the aegon prophecy.

otto scene paralleling ep2 is yummy (kinda wish criston had been there to be a bitch about stuff tbh) but also rhaenyra just miscarried i don't think she should be flying. the terms otto brings are VERY interesting (they are mostly alicent's, otto is a liar and his intentions for the long term are still absolutely to get rhaenyra and her fam killed, because as long as she's alive there will be people to say she was the heir, she should have been queen, either because they believe it, either because aegon is a shithead, either because opportunism etc etc); they're giving rhaenyra dragonstone, ie the most targ place in westeros, the traditional seat of the heir to the throne, and also where there are all the wild dragons and also an island not that far from king's landing on dragonback, so it's kind of like telling her you can keep most of the nukes and stay in our backyard it's fine. the terms also imply that they'll stop calling her kids bastards and make it royal policy that they aren't since jacaerys would inherit dragonstone & lucerys driftmark. the catch is the part about aegon the third and viserys being given 'positions of high honor at the court', which really means they are to be hostages for rhaenyra & daemon's good behavior. also otto said what i've been saying, which is that his faction was never reacting to anything rhaenyra did or didn't do ('she could be jaehaerys returned and it still wouldn't matter') and had been planning to crown aegon ii since he was a baby, because he was born with a dick and otto & hobert are thirsty for power. also lol at 'stale oaths' this shit is the foundation upon which feudalism stands but ok. stale oaths. side of honor and decency, lol.

i'm still meh about the book page moment. i want it to work for me because alicent & rhaenyra are the core of everything and it is a neat callback to ep1, it just... doesn't. it feels so alicent, the appeal to past friendship, but the book page itself feels contrived and i don't really buy that otto wouldn't have thrown it into the sea. also the family dinner from hell was about three days ago so it's not like rhaenyra would have forgotten the temporary rekindling of frienship or alicent saying she'd make a good queen only to put her own wanker son on the throne. idk it's not that she shouldn't be sad and yearning for the good old days but. i guess i think she should be kinda pissed too.

when daemon says 'the enemy declared war already' at the war council (part two)... he is being especially unhinged and bitchy, and him and rhaenyra REALLY should have taken five to air shit out in private after otto left -- but he isn't wrong either. neither of them are wrong, but again: they aren't operating from the same set of variables. rhaenyra is considering the cost of going to war with the aegon prophecy in mind, and daemon doesn't know about it. what daemon is considering is what he knows about how shit works, and what he knows about otto ("a second son that stands to inherit nothing but what he seizes for himself") (and also he is still in unhinged breakdown mode) and he probably realizes otto's terms are bullshit... because otto wasn't exactly wrong about his 'being the challenge' thing. if rhaenyra had been crowned there would always have been people to say, well aegon has a dick so he ought to bethe one sitting on the sword chair, even if he's an incompetent drunken wanker -- and while i very much doubt rhaenyra would have had her half-siblings executed to shore up her claim as soon as she got on said chair, it's very likely aegon ii would have been a problem at some point or another, not especially because of anything he'd do, but because he'd be a rallying point for discontents and opportunists. and now with aegon ii crowned there will also always be people to say that viserys changing his mind at the last minute is hightower bullshit, that his chosen heir was rhaenyra so she should be on the chair, ie she will always be a danger to aegon ii, and it's only when she's dead and her whole family with her that the doubts about aegon ii's legitimacy as king will die -- if only because then there would be no other pseudo-legally viable option than him left. and otto absolutely is the kind of person who'd make it happen, he has been planning on it since aegon was born, he's not gonna change that just because alicent said 'no i don't wanna'. plus the offer to give dragonstone to rhaenyra really is a huge red flag: otto said aegon ii had all the symbols of legitimacy, but dragonstone traditionally is the heir's seat, it is also a symbol of legitimacy and pet nukes island, there's just no way otto would really be fine letting the one threat to aegon ii just live out her days there even if he had two of her kids as hostages. his side of the fam is also missing another targ legitimacy symbol in dark sister. otto plays a long game, and for now he's just humouring alicent.

so yeah from daemon's perspective of prophetic ignorance, otto hatedom and general daemon-ness understanding of the world, if the blacks don't do a war, not only are they gonna have to hand over aegon the third and viserys ii to *otto* as hostages, but they'll also get to spend the rest of their life waiting for a sad regrettable accident to happen to them. he isn't considering the third option, which is get the fuck out of dodge and go back to pentos or wherever because he is in unhinged breakdown mode, and also if not him he wants rhaenyra on his bro's throne.

i'm still fine with the choking. makes sense to me. he's having his unhinged man breakdown over what he thinks is his bro getting murdered, and another breakdown on top over the visenya situation. the fact that his brother (he thinks) got murdered and the news sent rhaenyra straight to miscarriage... it's kill bill siren on repeat in his head and nothing else. dude spends the whole episode wanting to kill someone - wanting to kill a lot of someone. plus he is pissed at rhaenyra for not being gung-ho about war from the start. he is also pissed she didn't let him kill otto, whom he hates probably more than anyone else ever and probably expects will not rest until his and rhaenyra's whole family is dead. and he is pissed rhaenyra isn't listening to him because he's the one with the war experience and whatever, and on that one he 100% thinks he knows better. and he is high on targ exceptionalism as ever. and he is also very upset to learn about the aegon prophecy because viserys never told him, and under the swag and the overperformance of gender he is at his core a pathetic insecure little bitch hungry for big bro's approval, and this to him (and to rhaenyra) would confirm viserys never truly trusted him nor ever saw him as a viable heir. ever. also: poor impulse control is not new.

rhaenys and corlys not being on the same page for most of the season is kinda funny but mostly sad. corlys reconsidering velaryon ambition and support for rhaenyra HAS to happen when rhaenys is like 'actually... i kinda support her now'. she also confirms jace luce and joff their official grandchildren won't be safe as long as aegon ii sits the throne. (it is however meh that she didn't mention baela & rhaena who are their real grandkids, and also at risk because they are now betrothed to jace & luce. very uncool.) reversal of position to the nines, considering she used to be the one to say they weren't really their grandkids and that rhaenyra had laenor killed, which is now corlys' point to make. her position doesn't really make sense tho -- she says she supports rhaenyra because she is demonstrating restraint when everyone around her wants to go to war (which is sort of funny when you consider rhaenyra might have been as gung-ho about war as everyone else if not for the aegon prophecy, once again it's all about who knows what) but at the same time if jace luce & joff (and by extension baela & rhaena) are in danger as long as aegon ii sits the throne then... how is war not inevitable?

'you father's realm was one of justice and honor' is so fucking funny to me coming from corlys, who spent most of the season arguing it was complete injustice that his wife was cheated out of the throne. a+ no notes bitchiest backhanded compliment.

it's also really funny to me that rhaenyra tells the kids to swear on the seven because it's not like she's shown any care for the faith previously, and what with the oldtown link it's pretty unlikely any show of religion would get the faith on her side rather than the hightowers'. it's a weird decision and i don't really get the point. might make more sense later on tho.

another thing i do not really get: what is daemon even doing with vermithor other than looking cool?? on the one hand it's just as well he fucked off because the war council really went more smoothly without him but otoh what is he doing serenading a dragon that isn't caraxes?? is he intending to cheat on the noodle boi?? the whole point of that scene escapes me like ok bunch of dragons to claim on dragonstone... but if he's looking to organize blind dates then why is he alone.

baby lucerys giving me all the feels in this ep, and also making me wish we'd had more time with rhaenyra's kids to make everything more devastating. i get that aegon & aemond would get more screentime this season because they're going to last longer while lucerys dies especially early on, but isn't that reason to give him more time to steal all our hearts!! same with rhaenyra as a mother imo it wouldn't have hurt to get more of that for maximum impact when she learns about lucerys getting eaten. especially since the timeskips already meant we don't really see her go from not wanting kids because of aemma trauma to having like half a soccer team worth of them.

i do wish we'd gotten more time in storm's end too, but the whole fail visit shows rhaenyra fucked up in at least two big ways: 1) she just asked for fealty and while yeah oaths were sworn and all that jazz... like boros said, aegon ii's side at least came with an offer. the thing to do is to offer something when you're asking someone to go to war for you and not that other guy. if not a son's hand then a position on the small council or whatever. 2) her kids weren't prepared -- or at least lucerys wasn't prepared to treat with boros. baby boy doesn't know what the fuck he is doing, and he does the best he can but someone with actual experience would have known not to stop at 'well sorry sir i'm already betrothed' and made some counter-offer or another.

sapphire reveal YES. aemond being so good at being a scary mofo until it turns out he's basically a kid too?? that hit way more on rewatch. on first watch i really didn't like the specifics of how things went down with lucerys -- i went in knowing it would be an accident what with the leak, but not the exact details, and i really expected aemond to fuck up because he was so fixated on revenge he'd take it a step too far and that'd be the accident so on the moment it felt cheap when it turned out to be the dragons. now i think it's not at all a bad change for a show that's trying to show everyone's humanity and amp up the tragedy of it all.

and all in all i do think it did a good job at accounting for f&b canon while doing something different, because while the actual death is sort of an accident and aemond didn't want shit to get quite that far... it was still rather unhinged behavior of him to go all 'an eye for an eye i'll give it to mommy revenge revenge revenge'. he was out there doing the evil anime laugh, living out his dream of being the scariest dude around and finally getting himself some revenge... and it was fun and enjoyable for like five minutes and then it wasn't! probably the first time he actually kills anyone. but also lbr it wasn't that much better an idea than to straight up kill lucerys in light of what it'd do to the negotiation process and all that. and the fact that he called lucerys my lord strong & bastard when his mother's terms to rhaenyra imply the green will finally acknowledge jace luce & joff as legitimate... neat. of course aemond of all people couldn't let it go.

the thing that sold me on the no control over dragons was remembering back in ep1 when viserys said... we don't control the dragons the idea that we do is an illusion. full circle! i guess it is kinda sexy and not actually boring to have the war start like that. daemon is out there spouting his 'dragons will win us the war' spiel and meanwhile. dragons panicking. vhagar eating lucerys. also fits with the "ten thousands ways this could have been avoided (it was always going to be this way)" approach. and it all fits with the fact that show aemond is more of a wannabe edgelord at this stage of the story; his best war crimes era is still ahead of him, and i am curious to see how s2 goes from there. he isn't really the sort to tell people it was an accident imo (maybe to alicent) but even if he was, the thing is he can't actually tell to people it was an accident... because you can't tell your allies and possible allies and more generally your bro's subjects that woopsie! you can't control your pet nuke all that well actually. that's really, really, really bad press, even worse than doing a war crime. like. being led by dudes who do war crimes is one thing because they do the war crimes to the other side, but being led by dudes who don't control their pet nukes all that well means the pet nuke could eat you.

the only reason there could be to tell anyone is convincing rhaenyra it was an accident, but she wouldn't believe it from eamond (he of the toast escalation). and even if she magically learned all about how shit went down... she wouldn't see it as an accident because in the end aemond did pursue lucerys, who was just an envoy under explicit orders not to fight, with the intent to take an eye for an eye to bring back to his mommy and that's the reason there could even be an accident.

also ironic that aemond probably did more to save the daemyra marriage (and maybe even their cause) than anyone else in this ep because if he hadn't accidentally war crimed lucerys, giving them cause to war crime back? they'd be fighting like crazy over how to go about things and they'd be doing it in public, and daemon would be switching from undermining rhaenyra as queen to straight up killing people who don't bow low enough to her at least three times a day and that would not make their side very popular let's be real.

in the end i kinda wish this ep could have been the council of the blacks as a pendant to the council of the greens, things would have had more time to breathe. doesn't make for a killer season finale but maybe an eleventh ep with a longer stom's end passage (awkward diner!!) + blood & cheese idk.

buut then again that final scene... what a way to finish the ep & the season!! everything about it is so!! perfect!! love that we pretty much see only rhaenyra & daemon's backs throughout and yet you just fucking know what she's feeling. her little faltering step!! her hands on her stomach!! she's losing another baby... and when she does turn to the camera... her pissed off face, the way it just screams she's done... for the whole episode she's been trying so, so hard to do that thing alicent thinks she keeps giving the finger to, she's been trying to do her duty, she's been trying not to fall into pieces, she's been trying to hold shit together and do what she thinks viserys would have wanted her to do ie keeping the peace, she's been putting the aegon prophecy above everything else, she's been trying not give in to anger and now. and now that's over. she is gonna do some war crimes of her own.
