[ID: Two digital drawings of Gwen Bouchard and Lena Kelley on gray backgrounds. Each image has a bust and a full body drawing of each of them. Gwen is a slim white woman with long blonde hair in a high ponytail, and she is wearing silver earrings, a white button down and grey off-the-shoulder sweater with the sleeves rolled up, a black pencil skirt, grey tights, black heeled booties, and a lanyard with an ID card on it. Her expression is annoyed-leaning neutral and in her full body drawing her fists are balled.
Lena is a slim white woman with long dirty-blonde hair and she is wearing oval silver glasses on a chain, a red button down with the sleeves rolled up, white wide-leg trousers, a light brown belt, and red dress shoes. She has an ID card hanging from her shirt pocket. She is frowning and her hands are held behind her back in her full body drawing. end ID]

actually now that i think about it. as silly looking as the Giant Trans Flag Shirt on the trans guy in the baymax thing is- i feel like this was possibly to avoid people erasing his existence as a trans character. it is funny to picture disney just slapping on a trans flag shirt and being completely out of touch (because they are). but i think it's more likely the team themselves felt the need to do something that is undeniable proof that this is a Trans Character. no dubbing censorship (ex. having him say "my girlfriend uses these pads!" instead) and no idiot trying to come up with literally ANY reason this character is cis. they definitely could have just done a pin or a patch or something more realistic yes... but this IS incredibly funny AND will piss off more bigots quickly (yeah they'd get mad either way but this is so in your face that its funny thinking about them freaking out lol)

There's something kinda poetic about Number One, a character that was a high ranking woman on a 60s tv show who was removed from the story because the network said "no" to a female first officer, getting the storyline she is today. The trial is an allegory for a lot of things, but seeing Number One go through what she has in canon and regain her rightful place on the bridge has a poetic resonance to it, considering the real life bts things happening over the last 60 years. Ad Astra per Aspera indeed, Ma'am.
