HELLO FELLOW JACKSON'S DIARY FAN
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR A FEW OF MY THEORIES FOR JD? Yeah you do.
Please tell me your thoughts. 1) S1 E1 started with Jackson's dream, S2 E1 started with Exer's dream, so S3 E1 might start with David's dream, or maybe someone else's. 2) Throughout S2, Timothy got a few close-ups, so he might play a bigger role in S3. 3) Since we're pretty sure Lucy-furr was created by the diary, it's possible that she already had powers before getting hit with Exer's lightning bolt.It would also explain why she wasn't hurt by Exer's bolt, maybe having the powers means she isn't affected by his? Then again, Exer would get electrocuted so idk. 4) Harry has seen the doodle of Lucy right before she was taken by Exer, he's also read through most of the diary. He might start realizing that Jackson and Exer are connected by it in S3. 5) Marco (Pamela's older brother) is mentioned to have had terrible experiences from high school, so we might get a backstory for him 6) now that Jackson somewhat understands how the diary works, do you think he'll get revenge on Exer for all of the bullying? Would he give himself magic? There are so many things he could do with it now, but I hope he tells someone (probably Pamela or the detention kids) about it first. SORRY FOR THE LONG ASK, I JUST DON'T KNOW MANY OTHER JD FANS AHDFKAJDHFKAH
HELLO
im sorta outta my jd obsession for now but I'll definitely return in a bit
I think that makes sense, but I am also not exactly sure of it? Cuz I feel like the focus has always been on more Exer and Jackson rather than anyone else bc they both specifically have smth to do w magic. (Jackson is the only one who can see it and was directly attacked by it, Exer creates the magic, you get it?) Though it would make sense for him to take more center. I say all this cuz him having a dream at the start of a season would imply that HE would get more attention that season (like Exer w season 2) sorry if none of what I had said made any sense
That would be cool !!!
Oh that actually makes sense? It could also be that Jackson simply created a normal cat, and then it was given magic, but that seems pretty plausible
Exers dad has got to find that detail out at one point, even though it would traumatize him to death and back he would then probably find out more details abt how it affected Exer and what he could've goje through
Oh that would also be cool! Though he doesn't seem to have much of a role besides being Pamela's Cool Older Brother with occasionally advice to give to her, it would be nice to get more out of his character
THIS SHIT. I'VE BEEN THINKING ABT IT AND. IDK. I think it's a bit more probable that he just stops using the diary all together or experiments a bit and he'll probably have multiple breakdowns over it. HOPEFULLYYYY He talks to someone about it. Maybe he'll try to get an absolute confirmation from Exer to see if he's actually dating David first though I'm not sure if he would directly ask it. Maybe. Just maybe he would feel a bit guilty? Or fulfilled ?? Knowing that Exer DID feel the same pain Jackson did ?? Like Jackson wished for during one therapy session??

Critical Reread - ACOFAS Chapter 1
Join me on reread of A Court of Frost and Starlight
Chapter 1 - F/eyre’s POV
but also one blessed with gifts of all the high courts
It’s absolutely bonker balls that F/eyre isn’t the most powerful being in Prythian given that she is the only one to possess all of the powers of high lords, and really more of the high lords should be concerned about her.
I can wash them
F/eyre is so down to earth because she is willing to wash her own dishes sometimes.
I was still new enough in my role as high lady I had no idea what my formal role was to be.
This is about the Winter Solstice, but it feels like it could apply to any number of things about this brand new position.
If we have a high priestess do some odious ceremony, as Ianthe had done the year before.
I have so many questions about the high priestesses and what they do. It’s so under developed but is kind of essential to give Gwyn any kind of backstory.
Yes, but none of us go, it’s more for those who wish to honor the light’s rebirth. Usually by spending the entire night sitting in absolute darkness. It’s not quite a novelty for my sister and me, or for the high lord.
Has R/hys always had issues with darkness? I thought that was just F/eyre. Anyway, interesting that there seems to be a huge disconnect from religion and the ruling class in the Night Court.
A year ago, I had been stuffed into fine gowns and jewels made to parade in front of a preening court who’d gawked at me like a prized breeding mare.
I just...
Also pretty sure she’s already donned several fine gowns with R/hysand.
We could of course store everything in the pocket between realms, but
That’s literally where it ends. Why would you not use magical storage? Especially if you’re complaining about storage issues.
The townhouse was a bit small these days, even more so if Mor, Cassian, Azriel stayed over.
Honestly, just kind of hate this for F/eyre. She’s allowed to want a bigger house, but it all feels like a bored housewife kind of thing.
Priestesses angling for positions
Curiouser and curiouser.
High lady of the night court, defender of the rainbow and the desk. Perhaps my solstice gift to myself would be to hire a personal secretary.
How in the ever loving fuck is F/eyre co-running a territory without any personnel?
And yet there was more. There was more I could do to help. Personally I just hadn’t figured it out yet
I’m sorry, but as an absolute ruler with bottomless coffers, she could easily get more housing built and help war refugees by funding the groups that are already doing the work instead of showing up to pass out coats and firewood. They are literally telling her they don’t need her help.
My poor Illyrian baby
Idk why but this phrasing grates on me
I’m doing this from the audiobook, so my apologies for any punctuation errors or misspellings. /// are used to observe anti- etiquette. If you are wondering why I’m reading a book I am very critical of, it’s because I like being critical. Also, for my rewrite of ACOSF.

Clementine Pennyfeather deserves better.
*spoilers ahead*
okay so i don’t normally do posts like this bc i only come on here to reblog, post my gifs, then go, but i have been thinking about this since i finished watching the finale. angela sarafyan is such a good actress. i’ve been going through her filmography since i started watching westworld a few months ago and she is just so immensely talented in everything she’s in. and i’ll be honest she’s been some weird stuff. But she’s so capable that you could give her literally the worst script of all time and she would take it and give an oscar worthy performance. Even if she only has like 2 minutes of screen time, that ends up being the best 2 minutes of the entire movie or show she’s in. she’s just that good. She’s proven (especially in westworld!) that you could give her any kind of material and she will perform the fuck out of it. (not to mention she is flat out gorgeous and could probably make wearing a trash bag look good) but ANYWAYS that being said, i am so sick of the writers wasting her character in every season. clementine is the definition of wasted potential. i really truly think that if they gave her some good fucking material and a bigger role other than a mindless drone whose only purpose is to serve the villain she could be even better. don’t get me wrong, i love seeing clem be a badass and her fight scenes are my favorite but like?? can’t they just.. give her more to do??😭 we’ve have been doing this dance for years now. they bring her back only for her to be under someone else’s control, kill her, bring her back, and then you guessed it! they kill her again. would it kill them to write literally ANYTHING else for her? seriously, can they come up with something else??? i feel like she is constantly being used and abused by the characters and the writers (i mean all the other hosts are) but its just DIFFERENT w her somehow because it feels like such a slap in the face. for example, in the finale she was literally talking about leaving and finding a place where she can be free and i was like yes queen! go live your life and then BOOM they kill her… again. just like in episode 2 of this season she was just vibing, living her best life in a little village, and then before you know it she’s a ruthless killing machine under someone else’s control. again. its just so crazy to me why can’t they let her live lmfao??
i was so excited and surprised that she was coming back this season bc she was only in literally one scene for like 3 minutes last season and i really thought that was the last we’d see of her. but i don’t understand why they keep bringing her back if they’re gonna do the same thing over and over. i think maybe they do that because people love seeing her pop up from time to time but if they know that a lot of people like her, why not give her a story with substance, idk something she can do that doesn’t revolve around someone else??? i’m sure the audience would love that! (i know i would!) i really feel like they just use clem as a prop and don’t actually care about her like they do the other characters. so why bring her back at all if it’s clear they have no plans to give her any sort of story/character development? if they’re not gonna give her better material i wish they would just leave her alone. it’s sucks bc Angela does such an insanely good job with this role too. her robotic/animated mannerisms and line delivery (not that she’s given that much dialogue to begin with lmao) are so realistic it’s actually fascinating to watch. i still think she is the most realistic and scariest of all the hosts in terms of her looks and performance. i think she really catches peoples attention in a good way! but i really wish they would give her more bc Clementine is such an intriguing character with so much potential. Angela is definitely capable and more than talented enough to do whatever the writers give her. i just wish they’d give her MORE TO DO!!!

4 my greatest fears about weight loss are dying, getting forced into recovery again or institutionalized and just generally my mom finding out
5 the real reason i wanna lose weight is definitely mostly for other people i got over a lot of insecurity when i recovered but fatphobias a bitch and people treated me sm worse constantly than when i was at my lw

7 i dont think my parents know? my mom might but if she does she thinks im just exercising again and doing it healthy style
8 i dont really have a workout routine im still trying to get back into working out but i do go on 20 minute runs like 3ish times a week and ive been doing small pinterest cardio workouts like burpees mountain climbers and other basics
9 people have made comments since 2nd grade lol thats a big part of why im back here
10 the hardest thing ive given up during weight loss was happiness honestly. it sounds cheesy but eds literally take over your brain food was the only thing on my mind and recovering was like euphoria with this giant weight (lol) lifted.

16 i first decided to lose weight when i was 9 i would do these workout apps with my also fucked up friend. i saw a nutritionist (fuck you lady) when i was 11 and she told me to start counting calories on myfitnesspal (fuck you lady fr never tell a child to do that)
17 im an0rexic
18 sunflower seeds and pie are probably my biggest weaknesses (which is usually fine for sunflower seeds except like sodium)
19 the last time i ate fast food was probably like a month or two ago i had like fries and i live across the street from a fosters freeze (its like a dairy queen)
20 i dont really do diets i just set cal goals based on what i think i need/can handle
21 i wear like a us medium in tops and a large in bottoms depending on the store obvs
22 i already said but my lw was 140 and i gained bc i recovered (like professionally like i had a dr and psychiatrist and nutritionist(she sucked))
23 media probably definitely played a role in me thinking being fat was bad or just being aware of it in general but i think it was mostly subconscious
24 pro ana and pro mia are pretty dumb terms to me bc almost nobodys actually promoting it to other people or thinks its good we just want community i usually just say ana community or mia or ed
25 i have purged i cant remember the first time but i do remember one time i was hanging out with my friends at my house and we had rootbeer floats and i took a shower a purged it when they were in the other room which was super lame
26 im most excited to just feel lighter and have people notice again
27 idk how i deal with being around food sometimes i eat it sometimes i dont sometimes i give it to other people
28 a thigh gap would be nice bc chafing in the summer hurts so bad but i dont think its realistic for my body type and cause i still wanna be relatively curvy i def want more of a gap then now though
29 i think my definition of beauty is pretty abstract i find most things beautiful and a lot of it for people depends on actions and personality and little things they do i think beauty is ever evolving and cant really be defined
30 10 facts about me!! im an artist(bunch of different things but a lot of portrait paintings), im a smoker (both), im an ambivert but i act like an extrovert, i like kids, im german and have a really cool last name, im passionate about politics and social justice, im really passionate about the environment (i represent my school in this district wide youth environment thing and im taking ap environmental science), im very bisexual, i love riot grrrl music and subculture stuff, im a theater kid :|

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
I have surprisingly a lot of thoughts about this? Usually I read something and then my brain is empty (see all my past posts lmao) but I ended up having a bunch of very specific thoughts.
overall: strong start, but the last half was predictable and didn't hold the same appeal to me. I think part of this is because I spent about a week bingeing First Son (and some First Son x Prince) AUs in the Teen Wolf fandom where the conflict/resolution happened in pretty much the same way so it was old news for me. After I finished I also realized that I didn't like the characterization for the supporting characters (I found it very flat) and it became very obvious by the last half when they had bigger roles (I think this is a bigger issue than the predictability)
Anyways I came into it thinking it was an enemies to lovers stories but it's actually like... "I hate him" but is obsessed x doesn't know the guy exists (unless...) to friends to lovers. They also became friends/lovers way faster than I was expecting (like I think they kissed in chapter 5??) so I feel like maybe that was another thing that impacted my enjoyment? Bc I feel like I loveee the chase and I'm eh about established relationship a lot of the time. They were so cute together and I wish we got more of the friendship moments bc those were so cute (the turkey??? their texts??). After they got together they had love letters which were also cute but I just truly love short and sweet and cute stuff it hits different
so my biggest complaint is definitely the supporting characters? So many of them were like... they felt like props a lot of the time? So the main ones I didn't like (in terms of feeling one-dimensional) are Nora and Pez. Nora was basically just the quirky genius computer girl and Pez was the flamboyant sassy best friend who's the life of the party. We were supposed to be convinced that they're Alex's (real) friends (for the first time in a long time) but Pez and even Bea barely seem to have interactions with Alex so it's like hard to think of them as actual friends? And Nora was cool but I feel like the energy is major "June's friend who is friends with Alex".
I also think June had so much wasted potential (in terms of being a character and even specifically relating to Alex's development) bc there are lots of things dropped about her (her issue with their mom's treatment, the way she basically uprooted her life to take care of Alex in the White House out of worry but what was she worried about? and even the thing with Pez) and I'm just like. girl!! I need more details!! She was my favorite out of the supporting characters and I think she felt the most real but I wish there were more details.
Last thing (also related to the supporting characters) is that it feels kind of... wattpad? in terms of like. everyone is attractive and smart beyond normal levels of smart and also the entire world is focused on them (which makes sense given their positions/titles but also it felt very "me and all my friends are famous"). idk it makes sense but it's also too much if that makes sense? I guess bc like Nora was literally the key (only) figure who worked out the filedump thing but honestly that level of coding isn't like totally unbelievable imo? But also like argh everyone is a genius and attractive so /shrug????
anyways I think overall after having some time to think about it I think it was like a solid/fun read but I really wish the supporting characters were more fleshed out especially in terms of their friendship with Alex (or maybe that's just my "I love found family" coming out lmao)

A Court of Mist and Fury pt. 4
Or Somehow its not getting better
hi & hello fellow book-lovers and/or fans of the ACOTAR/ACOMAF-series. I have another part for you about A Court of Mist and Fury. Maybe by now you can tell how many thoughts I had about this book lmao. Anyways this is just my opinion on the matter and should not be taken as the only truth. If you want to you can leave your opinion in the comments or send me a message and we can talk more about it :) But for now let's get back into it.
We have some more Characters to discuss: Nesta, Elain and Lucien. And while we are at it I will also leave you a rant about ships
First things first (and don't get angry with me now): Nesta and Elain are pretty boring up until now. While I have to say that their involvement in the story in ACOMAF is more solid I am still a bit iffy because of ACOTAR. They were introduced to the reader as pretty much useless, rather unlikeable women (hence why I was so happy when Mor and Amren were introduced because finally women who were cool <333) and only got a bit of redeeming when Feyre returned for a short time. But in her absence they got rich. hm. I don't know, something just feels off. Why were we presented with a Cinderella-Type-Story just for both sisters to play an (apparently) much bigger role in this and coming books? Am I really supposed to like them now? And damn how convenient it is that their father is never home lmao. Other than that I don't really have that many thoughts about them as individual characters because well they are kinda bland :/ But I will give Sarah J. Maas the benefit of the doubt for now, maybe both Nesta and Elain will be given more character, motivation and overall substance in the next part of the series.
Lucien on the other hand was amazing in the first book. Personally he is my second favorite after Rhys as of now. We only got to see bits and pieces of him, his backstory and his powers during the first book and even less of that now in ACOMAF, which I found pretty sad. And when he gets to have some "screentime" he gets guilt-tripped by Feyre (as if Tamlin is not his superior and closest friend, of course he would be loyal aaarrggghhhh). However as much as I would like him to have a bit more of a backbone, I can understand why he is staying so loyal to Tamlin, at least based on what we as readers know of him up until now. And yet I can't help to wish for a bit more to his character, more of what he was in the first book: fiery, cunning, cheeky; a fox. Not just Tamlin's pet, only wincing not opening his mouth, except when it comes to Elain.
Which leads me to the trope I hate most in books: the author feeling the need to couple up all of the main characters/all characters in the mc's close circle. And we're circling back to Nesta's and Elain's involvement in the story. Were they brought back from their rather plain existence in the human world and turned to Fae because they need to function as love interests for Cassian and Lucien? Why is Cassian so easily smitten by Nesta anyways? Because she is a cHaLlEnGe to him? Or did he also already have his mate-instincts activated without us knowing? Is the concept of a mate even really of romantic significance, when Lucien had a love interest before in the Autumn Court? Why would Fae even bother to date other people when they can't feel that they are their mates? Because as I understood it the Fae are immediately able to feel if someone is their mate, like Rhys did for Feyre and Lucien for Elain. Or is it just the man feeling this first? The concept of finding your mate is actually something I really like, destined lovers is so cute and asdfghjkl BUT in this universe the extent of this concept is still very much unclear to me as you may have noticed.
Guys, idk about you but I personally do not like it, when every Character needs to end up in a romantic relationship. Is that really the end-goal? If something is turning me off of the next books it's this trope of romance-everywhere, especially when it's this destined lovers one. Because in and of itself that trope is amazing, but when the romantic partner becomes a characters only driving force in their life from this point on it gets old very quickly and most importantly undermines other characters traits a person very much should have. I don't know how SJM will handle this in the upcoming parts of the series. Because looking back at Feyre and Ryhsand I already feel as if their romance is now the focus, the driving force, especially for Feyre. Her thoughts seem to circle back to Rhys constantly as if her returning to the Spring Court would not have any other downsides than not being at Rhys' side. Shouldn't the trauma and fear she had experienced there be a bigger concern? At least at the beginning? Has Tamlin not realized that Feyre is not his mate? Doesn't that mean that there is a person out there that would be the perfect fit for him? Isn't that important enough for him to maybe rethink his actions? And why do I have the feeling that the only reason Lucien will show some backbone is because he has that weird, borderline creepy possessiveness towards Elain? Because let's be real being that possessive is not attractive even when Rhys does it.

I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who isn't a big fan of Natasha.
Idk what exactly it is about her. I've never like, extremely disliked her or anything, at most I've just been incredibly annoyed by her *side eyes CACW Nat*. I know a lot of it just comes down to shitty writing and isn't necessarily the character's fault, but I've checked out a couple of comic stuff and I didn't really connect with her there either. It's also kinda tainted her character for me now knowing that her role in CAWS was originally written for Sharon but they basically just changed the names because they wanted to give Scarlett a bigger role. I think the hypertextualization and obvious pandering to incels/dudebros that happens with her character hasn't helped either.
Idk I just never really connected with, related to, or understood her as a character and I don't understand why the fandom puts her on this massive pedestal as The Greatest Female Avenger/Character of All Time.
I wish I had a deeper reason for not liking Nat, because umm...I just personally don't find ScarJo physically attractive, so it didn't appeal to me when she plays up the sex appeal (maybe that's why I liked her better in BW? Not sure). It's kind of weird, like intellectually (?) I could see that she should come across as charismatic and attractive, but emotionally I didn't feel it.
For a long time I kinda just tolerated Natasha as a necessary evil in a dudebro genre because they needed an eyecandy, and Nat is the only one who gets to play with the boys because the designated love interests are all written in as an afterthought. I did like her in BW, but then I feel she's different there compared to a lot of her other outings.
Sometimes the fandom defend their faves with ideological positions to make it sound like a moral choice, when it's not. People have given solid reasons for disliking the way female characters have been written in Peggy and Natasha (amongst others). Natasha being one of the original Avengers does hold more significance than other female characters, which might be where all the pedestals are coming up. That said, the femme fatale trope isn't for everyone and people are allowed to dislike the character without being called a misogynist.
Besides, while "female representation" is well and good, we're in the 3rd decade of the 21st century. It's ridiculous that we have to be content with just having female roles in superhero franchises, and not be allowed to argue that women need to be written better.

Wait...If Eloise was supposed to debute last season but Violet allowed her to delay her debut by a year and Francesca is only a year younger than Eloise, shouldn't have Francesca also debuted this season?
Which already didn't make sense because in the show they had S1 be Daphne's debute when in the book she was on her second or third season and is four years older than Eloise so show vise Eloise's debute should have been in like season 4? Or 5? Unless Daphne and Eloise are only a year apart on the show? Which still doesn't make sense because they still wouldn't be debuting in the same season!?
Anyway I kind of wonder if Francesca was supposed to debute this season? CVD did say she was supposed to have a bigger role this season, idk what else they would have given her to do? But that was changed because the actress was not available so they had Francesca just in the background once again.
According to the script, at the beginning of season 1 Daphne is 18, Eloise is 17 and Francesca is 16. I guess we have to assume that the appropriate age for girls to make their debut is 17, since s01 was also Penelope's first season out and she is the same age as Eloise. So technically Frannie would have been able to debut in s02 (being 17 at the time), but since both Daphne and Eloise came out at 18 it's consistent for her to follow in their footsteps which would make s03 the right time for her debut (if the show remembers she's supposed to be a member of the Bridgerton family and not an extra that comes and goes).
I really hate how the show aged down Daphne tbh. I wish they'd kept her book age, just thiking that she was just 18 when she got married makes my skin crawl. Same with Edwina every time I saw her with Anthony. 💀💀 At least with Frannie and Eloise it kinda makes sense because there will probably be a time jump until their stories come up.. I guess having Daphne be in her third season wasn't convenient for the diamond plot so they just had her be a 30-year-old man's child bride instead??
Francesca wouldn't need to have a social season in order to get a proper arc so the "what else would they have given her to do" question doesn't make much sense. What did they have Eloise do last season? What did they have Colin and Benedict do this season? Just developing the relationships between the Bridgerton sisters (which obviously isn't the show's forte) could've made for great storytelling. They could've easily come up with a decent storyline if they wanted, both in s01 and s02. And if they hadn't treated her character as a joke from the beginning of the show, maybe the actress wouldn't be (rightfully) prioritising projects where she was actually taken seriously when they finally remembered her existence during the s02 filming.

inazuma archon quest (rewrite ? critique ?)
OKay so i’m gonna preface this with i don’t hate the inazuma archon quests ! i quite enjoyed the storyline and everything about it, there are just things that ,,, i'm not so satisfied with. and so i'm gonna go over those here and rewrite it or like. idk offer critique lol something like that !
real quick, @like-that-one-weird-dog-thing here if u want this here's that ramble i was talking about lol (yeah i made a genshin tumblr kSDKGHDFFGD)
i feel like this is a given but;
spoilers for all acts of the inazuma archon quest under the cut
with that out of the way, onto the rewrite ! (quick side note: it kinda turns more into a creative writing piece more than a critique or full rewrite near the end which is not what i meant to do but it still gets my point across so !! it works)
so, like i said, i quite enjoyed the archon quest. the first two acts (autumn winds, scarlet leaves & the immovable god and the eternal euthymia) are perfect, i don't think i'd change anything in those two acts at all. the third act (stillness, the sublimation of shadow) is also wonderful, and i honestly think that's my favourite out of the archon quest acts so far ! it's mainly when act 3, omnipresence over mortals, hits that i think it fell a bit short
things kinda feel... a bit rushed when it comes to this quest ? compared to the slow, steady pace of the prologue and act 1, then the speeding up of act 2, it honestly seems too fast paced and yet too slow at the same time. some parts of act 3 were really fast, like the encounter with scaramouche and the duel with la signora, and then some were... really slow. like the entire bit with the reistance.
on top of that, a lot of characters really fell short for me. it felt like teppei, an unplayable npc, was way more important than gorou, sangonomiya kokomi, kujou sara, basically everyone except for yae miko and raiden shogun. which, don't get me wrong, teppei was important, but i feel like these other characters had a big introduction only to just... kinda exist with no real reason.
gorou and sangonomiya kokomi were played up as big characters due to their status in the resistance - kujou sara was played up as the raiden shogun's right hand woman, and they were advertised as the duo of inazuma - hell, it even felt like kamisato ayaka was going to play a larger role in the final act of the story. and then none of them really did.
gorou only shows up to inform us about the soldiers aging quickly (and a bit near the end, but kaedehara kazuha had more of a role there, with actually leaping towards the shogun). sangonomiya seems important, but her only real action is making us a force captain and then telling us where the delusion factory could be. kujou sara only showed up to talk to the head of the kujou clan then get fucking knocked out by la signora in front of the raiden shogun, who did nothing about a snezhnayan diplomat knocking out her LEAD GENERAL ! kamisato ayaka only appeared for a few moments.
so, now that i've explained some of why i felt the final act fell short, i'm going to offer up how i would've changed things.
first, gorou and sangonomiya should play a bigger role in the story. like, they're the leads of the resistance, and they get less screentime than unplayable npcs... that's kinda weird. kujou sara should also play a bigger role. kamisato ayaka, i think would be fine with not appearing, due to how much of a part she played in the first acts, but gorou, sangonomiya kokomi, and kujou sara should be a lot more present, just in general.
in the 2.1 trailer, there were lines of "peace talk", correct ? i feel like that should've been in the story. perhaps after the traveler meets with sangonomiya on watatsumi island, they hear word of kujou sara wishing to meet. they meet up with her, which is where the peace talk comes into play. the two sides start trying to come up with a compromise. while this is happening, gorou is keeping an eye on things back on watatsumi island... where things start getting strange.
the soldiers start showing signs of accelerated aging. it's concerning, and as far as they're aware, unstoppable. due to this, sangonomiya cuts the compromising short to return to her people and try to help them. perhaps kujou sara could make a jab at this, something like "how do you ever plan to defeat the shogun's army if you can't even keep your own soldiers alive outside of a fight?" which could lead to sangonomiya and the traveler believing that kujou knows something about what's going on (even though she doesn't).
upon getting back, the traveler recognises the delusions. honestly ? i really liked the delusion subplot. i really like the idea of the fatui trying to tear inazuma apart, kind of like they did mondstadt and liyue, so they could get their hands on baal's gnosis. perhaps they had it so that scaramouche was in charge of scattering the resistance forces, while la signora was working behind the scenes with the kanjou commission and the tenryou commission to manipulate the raiden shogun.
i love the part where teppei dies, simply due to how emotional it was. i genuinely cried at that part, lol... but i really enjoyed it. i would say, keep that in. after discovering the delusions, things stay relatively the same. the traveler goes to teppei and watches him die, and then goes to the factory to get revenge, where they meet scaramouche. yae miko still saves them, however...
instead of remaining at the shrine to talk to yae the entire time, i think the traveler would want to go back to the resistance. sure, yae could very much help them defeat the raiden shogun, but the traveler is working with the resistance, who, from what we've seen, can be quite strong... at times. however, as they're about to leave, yae leaves the traveler with these parting words: "be careful of who you trust, child. not everyone who seems like a friend is one"
why ? well, i love the idea of the resistance not entirely being in the right, either. y'know that giant serpent that baal struck down ? yeah, that was watatsumi's protector deity. simply put: watatsumi island doesn't really like the raiden shogun, and i doubt sangonomiya feels much differently. i would love if one of the subplots was about how the resistance wasn't firstly formed to fight the vision hunt decree, but just the shogun in general, and slowly morphed to fighting the vision hunt decree.
after returning to the resistance, the traveler tells sangonomiya what they found. after speaking for awhile, they figure out that the fatui is most likely not just making things miserable on the front of the resistance (via the delusions). how do they figure this out ? the traveler, of course. while wondering why the fatui are in inazuma, the traveler remembers how the harbingers are trying to collect all the gnosis. they make this known to sangonomiya, who guesses that the fatui could be trying to make inazuma a mess so they can get the shogun's gnosis. at this point, the traveler heads back to the grand narukami shrine to speak to yae miko, hoping she'll know more about this, with sangonomiya at their side.
upon arrival, yae miko is speaking to kujou sara. kujou and sangonomiya are immediately.. well, simply put, not happy to be in each other's presence. yae miko calms them down, and tells them all what she was telling kujou. sangonomiya and the traveler were right: the fatui were behind the vision hunt decree. sangonomiya tells kujou what had happened in the resistance, and the traveler tells her what happened in the other nations, with the fatui (specifically la signora) hunting the gnosis. kujou mentions seeing a harbinger, a tall woman with blonde hair, and the traveler connects the dots. it's la signora, and she's in inazuma. kujou still isn't convinced, so the traveler does need to get kamisato ayaka and sayu's help to get the documents.
while waiting for the documents to arrive, the traveler speaks more with sangonomiya, where they learn more about the past of watatsumi island and the serpent deity. perhaps, trusting the traveler, sangonomiya reveals to them why she started the resistance in the first place: to get revenge on the shogun for killing their deity. of course, as time went on, she is now fighting against the vision hunt decree and simply wants to see inazuma united again, though it shakes the travelers trust in the resistance. after all... teppei, their good friend, died for the reistiance, and here sangonomiya is telling them that she started it simply to get revenge on baal for a centuries old fight that was ended... well, centuries ago.
after getting the documents, the traveler meets with kujou sara at the grand narukami shrine. sangonomiya was planning to come, but gorou needed her help tending to more soldiers at the resistance, as some refused to hand over their delusions. things stay relatively the same from here. kujou confronts takayuki, and she goes to speak to the shogun about this. while that's going on, yae miko is speaking to the traveler, giving them a brief rundown on what is going on with the raiden shogun - the one that is actually given in the quest, where we learn more about her puppet and her name being ei and whatnot. afterwards, the traveler goes to face the raiden shogun. they find la signora and kujou sara in a standoff, with the raiden shogun taking kujou's side (they are a duo, after all). la signora moves to attack kujou, but...
before she can land a strike, our traveler runs in, stopping her blow. all three parties present are startled - a wanted criminal in inazuma just stopped inazuma's head general from being attacked. it's not something you see every day. after speaking a bit more, the traveler challenges la signora to a duel before the throne, remembering this as an option due to kaedehara kazuha telling them about his friend. the traveler wins, and as such, la signora is executed... or is she ? well, to the traveler it seems like she is, but some subtle hints clue us in to the fact that something seems off. maybe la signora isn't dead, after all.
however, before la signora is executed, kujou sara steps in. she can tell that the traveler needs to ask signora something, and as they have been helping her, she asks the raiden if they can ask their one question before she executes signora. raiden agrees. and so, the traveler asks... "why?"
"why what?" signora laughs, though it's a pained laugh. "i'm afraid you'll have to be a bit more specific."
"you didn't just take venti's gnosis."
"not like you did zhongli's."
"you were brutal. you knew him."
"what did he ever do to you?"
and then... a cutscene. a story cutscene, to be exact. telling us about la signora's backstory as the crimson witch of flames (after all, this is fully confirmed during the fight). it shows her meeting her lover, and her lover perishing in the war, and her turning into the crimson witch. it shows her blaming venti for her lover's death, and then being found by the fatui. given her cryo delusion so she could appear as a human in a world of humans, and vowing to work side by side with the tsaritsa... as long as she can get revenge on the god that caused her lover to die.
after that, the raiden shogun executes signora. the traveler leaves, and we get that terrifying cutscene of them walking (which, let me tell you, scared the hell out of me. it was wonderfully made, please keep that in). we see the resistance coming up, having decided now was the time to take back inazuma... and then, the raiden shogun appears. not fully attacking the traveler, but she appears, walking on the steps out of a portal, like she did when facing the traveler the first time. kaedehara kazuha, in a moment of anger, lunges forward, activating his friend's vision as he clashes his blade with the shogun. she knocks him back, raising her blade to end him and take his vision when the traveler jumps in again.
and this time, she takes them back to the plane of euthymia.
the fight happens again, and once more, the traveler is not strong enough to win. however, the voice of yae miko rings in their ears: "your ambition alone is not enough to stop ei". words that were said to them right as they left to go find kujou sara.
and in that moment, the visions reach out to them. the stolen ambitions of all these people, gifting their ambition to the traveler. and, in the end of that all, we see the face of teppei. we see his hope, his determination to help the resistance. except, it's not just an illusion, it's a spirit. "help the resistance for me, okay, my friend?"
and the traveler gets the strength. they fight back against the raiden shogun, and they defeat her. they win. they are thrown out of the plane of euthymia, and the raiden shogun is kneeling over, weak. she lost the fight. she lost the fight. she looks up at the traveler, her eyes glowing a bright purple as she takes them in.
"their ambitions are stored within you."
"you really are an exception."
she stands up, and the traveler readies their blade. is she going to attack them again? instead, her blade simply... vanishes in her hands. in a brilliant, electrifying light, what was once there is no longer there. she stands before the traveler, empty handed. just looking at them. the traveler lowers their weapons.
"you are no longer wanted in inazuma. even i can't beat you."
"that's not what i want."
"oh? then what is it?"
"end the vision hunt decree. now."
and the raiden shogun laughs. "you think you get to make that choice?"
"almighty shogun." kujou sara is there, too. had she always been there? the traveler isn't sure. "the vision hunt decree.. it's harming inazuma."
"not just vision bearers," gorou adds. "but the entirety of the inazuman people."
"vision bearers and non vision bearers alike." even sangonomiya kokomi is there. "we have been fighting to end this for two years. people have died on all ends. many lives have been lost. don't you think it's time to end this?"
"after all, it was the fatui's doing." and then, there's yae. and the shogun seems shocked, then angry, then hurt, then... sad. then happy.
"yae. my old friend..."
the shogun takes in the people all around her. she takes in friends and enemies, foes and allies, vision bearers and regular people... and yet, despite their differences, they're all inazuman. they're all her people. they looked to her for guidance, and it failed.
"very well."
the decree is over. visions are returned to the few still able to receive them. the raiden shogun, for the first time in what feels like an eternity, steps out of the plane of euthymia. for the first time in years, the shogun is not who walks the streets, no; it is ei who walks the streets alongside her people. she goes to the small villages, along with her good friends yae miko and kujou sara, and she sees the damage she caused on her people. sangonomiya kokomi and gorou show her the resistance troops, who, at first, almost try to attack, before ei steps down and bows to them, asking for their forgiveness. she sees the damage her idea of eternity inflicted upon inazuma, and she makes it her goal to do better.
after all. she was aware it was the fatui's doing. she knew what the fatui were doing. she knew that two of her three commissions were working behind her back. and she did nothing about it, as it fit well with her goals at the time. she turned her back on her people in a false pursuit of eternity that would only end in loss. she recognises that. she knows what she did was wrong, and she takes the steps towards making things right. she reopens inazuma's borders, and takes down the statue of the omnipresent god.
alongside yae miko, she offers advice to the traveler on where their sibling might be. she suggests they go to sumeru next; the city of scholars might know something. when asked about what they were told by yae, the ei tells the story herself. the story of two twins; baal and beelzebul, makoto and ei. how one lost the other, and took over her identity. much like venti and the unnamed bard.
in the final cutscene, we see how inazuma starts to heal. sangonomiya prays at the watatsumi island shrine, for all the souls lost in the resistance. gorou and kujou sara start working together to mend the relationships between the reistance and the shogun's army. yoimiya, thoma, and kamisato ayaka enjoy a game of hot pot together, with sayu sleeping nearby. kaedehara kazuha leaves his friend's vision at his grave, and he takes his friend's cat with him. behind him, beidou awaits for her friend to join her, and the two walk off together. yae miko looks up at the sacred sakura, it's petals blowing in the wind. we see the traveler walk up to her to thank her for her help, and she simply smiles at them. sakura petals cover the screen... and then we see ei.
we see her walking alone. it's sunset, just about to go dark, but not just yet. it's lightly raining... and we see her kneel down at what seems to be a shrine. she leaves an offering before she stands up and moves away. we see the names engraved on the shrine - makoto. chiyo. sasayuri. kitsune saiguu. her sister, and her old friends. eternally preserved in a shrine created by the one who still cares for them.
and end scene.

To me, it doesn’t make sense to make Magneto the main villain because it has been done so much before and it would connect it so much to the Fox Films. Also I think there is a GREAT laziness in writing Magneto especially in films. He generally didn’t want to kill all humans, subjugate them yes because he doesn’t trust them. Which isn’t a ‘good guy’ move in itself and he slips in and out of.
He legit murdered genocide I think when he was going to kill all humans. Like no.
I also think that the average cinema goer likes Magneto too much… or maybe that is me. It would also require them to recast the most famous faces of the franchises?
Like is anyone going to care if they recast Jean, Scott, Iceman, Rogue, Kitty, Beast even Mystique but Magneto? I don’t know. I have long been a fan of an actual Jewish actor playing Magneto but following Ian McKellan would be difficult for the casual fans to accept. I don’t think Fassbender left such an amazing impression.
Even my most average MCU fans friends (and god they love the MCU 😤 but I see past it) still talk about how much they want to see a Magneto solo film.
To me I would put the focus on their reveal and sentinels. Then again I thought they’ll go through Krakoa stuff. Like it turns out the mutants have been living on this Island etc
With the ‘simpler times’ comment I have to for the sake of my sanity have to think that it was because Pietro knew where he was. Things were clear to him, as much as it hurt he had his sister. The following trauma had not occurred. Again I don’t think this is true but I am trying to reason bad writing. He didn’t doubt his morality but was indebted and controlled. Shitty actions were out of his control.
I don’t read Avengers so I didn’t know he was shelved for so long.
I think the Trial of Magneto is trying to ride on the coattails of Wandavision because even though she’s not a mutant a lot of the internet was wanting Magneto to show up. So what is the best way to get those fans who wanted to see that? Set up a family comic book where they establish the family again because I guess the MCU fans heard they’ve changed their background and themselves didn’t like it.
I see the Trial of Magneto as something poorly thought out as they saw what the audience was interested in. The timeline kind of clashes uncomfortably with Inferno. Which makes me think it was wedged in there to ride the Wandavision train and undo the retcon on the side of the main storyline.
Thank you for reading my essay/rant
Ok so I'm going to first say you have a lot of great thoughts and great on picking up the whole forced feeling. You are right, it does feel wedged in there and it does feel forced because that's exactly what Marvel did.
The Trial of Magneto was supposed to be an X-Factor plot, it was Leah Williams next arc, here's an article link talking about her podcast: link (yes I know it's bleeding cool but I don't have time to listen to the podcast)
Leah Williams tells us that X-Factor was canceled because Leah's pitch for the Magneto/Wanda story for X-Factor, now called Trial Of Magneto, became such a popular pitch at Marvel but they thought the reader numbers for X-Factor wasn't big enough for this story, so they wanted it as a separate comic. And canceled X-Factor #10 rather than seeing it run as originally planned, with the Trial beginning in X-Factor #15. Williams says she only learned about the cancellation of X-Factor when she was writing #9, so as she had to finish the series quickly, squeezing six issues worth of story into those last two issues, calling it "cramped and rushed".
So I'm not a fan of Leah but the way Marvel treats it's writers has always been terrible so this cancellation doesn't surprise me. Could this be about W*ndaVision? It's likely, but it's more likely this has to do with Hickman bowing out. It's no secret literally everyone hated the retcon and I always knew it would be undone but I didn't think it would take 6 years but here we are.
Hickman leaving is a bigger thing, he stated in an interview ( link ) that he had planned Krakoa and X-Men to be a 3 arc story, and he wasn't allowed to move onto the 2nd arc because the clowns at Marvel liked the idea of Krakoa too much and I'm so mad because that's exactly the kinda behavior that annoys me with the fans, them thinking Krakoa is just a fun playground for the mutants to mess around with.
"Oh, plans have changed entirely," Hickman says. "When I pitched the X-Men story I wanted to do, I pitched a very big, very broad, three-act, three-event narrative, the first of which was House of X. And while this loosely worked as a three-year plan, I told Marvel upfront that I honestly had no idea how long the first part would last because there were a lot of interesting ideas that I had seeded that other creators would want to play with, and so, we left this rather open-ended. I was also pretty clear with all the writers that came into the office what the initial, three-act plan was so no one would be surprised when it was time for the line to pivot." Hickman continues, "However, I also knew that I was cooking with dynamite, and it was very possible that what I had written in House of X, and the ideas contained within, was not actually the first act of a three-act story, but something that resonated more deeply and worked more like Giant-Size X-Men, where it would represent a paradigm shift in the entire X-Men line for a prolonged period of time. So, during the pandemic, when the time came for me to start pointing things toward writing the second-act event, I asked everyone if they were ready for me to do that, and to a man, everyone wanted to stay in the first act. It was really interesting, because I appreciated that House of X resonated with them to the extent that they didn't want it to end, but the reality was that I knew I would be leaving the line early."
I'm so MAD because the thing I was predicting, that Hickman would have it come crashing down and everything would be revealed to be terrible and Mutant Death Sex Cult Island wasn't a paradise is never going to happen because the fucking CLOWNS at Marvel don't want him to move past it. I may have my personal gripes about some of Hickman's writing but we can't deny the man wrote one of the best if only the best Marvel Event with Fantastic Four/Avengers/Secret War.
As for the simpler times comment, like I have my theories that I wrote out here, and that's what I think is most likely but I do think Pietro's life has never been easy or simple once his adoptive parents died. Pietro could be drinking to a time before the Brotherhood.
I would love for a Jewish actor to play Magneto and any other characters who are Jewish. I would love for a Jewish writer to be able to write them too. However Ian's performance literally set him in the minds of the people as Magneto, not even Fassbender's bleh one note Magneto could compare. Imo the only reason people liked the younger Magneto was because he was young, handsome (? ig idk i dont simp for him) and they could ship him with young professor X (cowards. where is the old man ship???) But I feel like a new actor could definitely fill the role if they are Jewish and the writing was good.
Magneto's writing in comics... well I just wish we could have a Jewish writer for him. There's some great stuff for him but I feel like characters like him and Doom could be written better by non white/american writers.
Although by today's standards the og X-Men trilogy doesn't hold up I will defend the first two movies with my life simply because after Blade these movies opened up the idea that a good serious, non campy version where characters called Magneto and Cyclops were taken seriously. X2 in my mind was the definitive X-Men movie. Was it totally comic accurate? No, but it doesn't do what the MCU does, it doesn't treat the watcher like they need to have their hand held through all the military propaganda and "hints to the comics". Also side note; the reason no one cared about any of the other X-Men being recast is because all through most of the X-Men movies the focal story point has been Professor X vs Magneto. If they really want people to care about those characters/actors then we would need stories that focused on them. Not like how Storm barely had any character growth or plot in the og X-Men and even young Ororo got mishandled by the script. This is why I feel we should have "origin movies" for the X-Men that don't do what Wolverine Origins did and try to make a whole new cast but instead should use the stories as they are. If it was Kurt's story then we would see him join the X-Men, and have the other actors revolve around that. Same with each of the others, the X-Men work best when they are working off each other and each given enough screen/page time to shine. Unfortunately we all have our favorites, even movies and writers, so those are who are going to be pushed for fans to love.
Thank you for your long rant and sorry for my own long rant/reply.

Things I Want Changed in Fate S02
Better Costumes
Like, seriously, wth happened there? They were dressed awfully, and that's not news. The costumes were like straight out of a 90's teens movies, it was so obvious there was an adult trying do find out what teens used and maybe saw that 90s fashion was trending and thought that was the hype. Costume designer Catherine Adair has been a costume designer in 29 projects, none of them was a teen TV show (except her most recent project, after Fate, which is a disney kids mystery series) and 16 of wich were in the 90s. She has dressed TV shows before Fate but things like Desperate Housewives and The Man in the High Castle- Definitely not even close to the vibe Fate has. Hopefully she'll either do more research or they'll hire another costume designer since she's aparently working on this new Disney series. IMDb says we have a new Art Director in S02 (Justin Warburton-Brown, who apparently done The Witcher S02!!) so my hopes are very high!
New locations and sets!
I loved Alfea and the Winx Suite but I feel like we need more sets. That's not the fault of the art direction or set decoration (which were done by Karl Clifford -who isn't credited for anything but Fate- and Jil Turner who has a very good resume, having worked on Vikings and a lot of other fantasy movies and tv shows), I feel like they did a pretty good job with what they were given. Having the entire season be basically that got very repetitive and because of the number of views I'm hoping they have a bigger budged in S02 to be able to have different sets. I wanna see Magix! The cartoon did a wonderful job with the city near Alrea, it was super cool to see the futuristic town in a fairy show, which was a contrast to what me, as a kid, imagines what a magical town would look like. I don't think they'll to this for Fate but it'd be cool to see like magic being used in day to day lives. Also if Alfea is in the middle of nowhere where do the girls get like stuff? Where do they buy tampons if they need it? I MUST know!! Also it'd be pretty cool to see Solaria sometime. IMDb also told me we got a new set decorator in S02 and he's been the set decorator of Shadow and Bone (Kevin Downey) so I'M EXCITED.
More plot and Backstory for the characters
Let's skip Bloom and Sky because I think @lilshitwayne would do a better job talking about them and then focus on the others.
Aisha
WHERE IS AISHA'S PLOT??? They done my girl wrong, so wrong. Seriously, what is her backstory? What are her goals and dreams? What are her insecurities and challenges? What is her personal arc? What is her role in the series arc? I wish I could answer all these questions but I just can't. I saw @lilshitwayne and @rivusa dms about her yesterday and I want to give them the floor to talk about it so I'm not gonna say what they said, but I do want more from Aisha's character next season and I want her role to not be as suporting as she was in S01. I do think that the fact that she's a poc character had to do with her lack of development and I will HATE it if they make her also LGBTQ+ and continue with Netflix's trend of shoving all the minorities into one character. Hopefully because of the backlash they'll listen. Precious is a beautiful and great actress and she deservers better.
Musa
Musa had a pretty big part in S02 I'd say. She was basically the second most important character after Bloom, BUT she did not have a plot, let's be real. Her whole arch was basically "I hate my powers, they are useless and just make me suffer and I try to ignore them" and then she met Sam and was like "Oh he basically feels nothing so it's nice to spend time with him" and then she found out Sam was Terra's brother and wanted to keep their relationship a secret, then she told Terra and there was like too much drama for a non-dramatic revelation. Then she had to face her powers when Sam was dying but then he lived so she went back to being the same as she was but with a boring boyfriend now (I know people like Sam and that's okay because people have different tastes but I just don't see the appeal, okay? he's boring in my opinion). So like her whole development and plot was based around a guy. No internet struggle solved, no character development. Yes Musa is my favorite character but I still don't like her "plot".
Stella and Terra
idk what I'd say about them. I think one of the other girls in the fate fandom might have takes and stuff. Terra had the self-steem and body issues that basically went no where and Stella has mommy issues and issues in general that are probably gonna get more developed already so I'm not too worries about them.
I know people didn't like that they made Stella have a very different personality than the cartoons and (hot take) I kinda like it. Don't @ me. Stella was hella annoying in the cartoons and I like this very messed up Stella we got, yes she's a bitch but she's got layers and I can't wait to see them Explored.
Terra was not a cartoon character and I have no fucking idea why they didn't just put Flora. Flora in the cartoon had also a very different personality so maybe they thought she didn't fit, but then why not keep her and just change the personality like they did with Stella? Also if they had made Terra latina it wouldn't have changed anything in Terra's plot. Idk what happened behind the scenes but that's what we got. I do want Flora to appear and be this cute cinnamon roll but also badass (and latina) so *fingers crossed*
Riven
ah, Riven... He has so much potential and I can't wait to see his character development throughout the series. I can see a lot of troubles at home and internalized homophobia and fuck he's just so god damn Bi. Hopefully that little interaction with Dane about just liking whoever depending on the gender will make Riven be okay with his sexuality and I really like this plot okay?
Also, yes, as a Rivusa shipper I want that to happen and I've already done two huge post about Riven and Rivusa in Fate so if u wanna read more go and do it (here and here).
The rest idgaf about them (I do but i'm too lazy to type)
Future characters
I wanna see Brandon. They call even make Stella bi and change Brandon to like Brenda or something, I've done that in fics and I think that'd be interesting.
Flora, of course, as said above.
Helia if they bring Flora along. They should pair him with Terra, he's Flora's.
I don't wanna see Tecna and Timmy tbh, might be a controversial opinion but I didn't really care for them in the OG and with all the normal technology in Fate I don't really see a reason for them. Unless they change Tecna's powers like they did with Musa, but we don't need another white basic bitch character.
I think that's it!
If yall want to answer and discuss Fate feel free to reblog! I'd love to talk about how we could improve the show!

Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie Review (w spoilers)
Just wanted to get this off my chest now that the movie’s been released in America. I watched this on 8th April when it was first released in Singapore, and two more times the following week.
So, overall I give the movie about a 6.5-7/10 or C+. Acting: Decent Story: Average at best Action: Above average to Good Gore: Graphic but not as often or much Best highlights: Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Costuming
I’ll be referencing some comments by others about the movie, but this’ll all be my opinions. I reviewed the movie based on my understanding that it’s a low budget film before even watching the movie. I am also a fan of the game (though I do not play, I watched most of the lore)
-------
When I first watched the movie, I was excited. The intro showing Hanzo Hasashi’s backstory would be something familiar to fans of the game. As expected, his wife and child were killed, but as we know it, they have an extra baby girl who later survives and carries on the bloodline. At this point, I was already ‘eh’ because it was so predictable what happens next. I was already disappointed that they named the son ‘Jyubei’ in the subtitles, when the wife didn’t even utter his name in Japanese. In the game, Hanzo’s son is called Satoshi. But one can say that’s something petty.
Anyways, as it goes on, we meet Joe Taslim as Bi-Han. He’s menacing, he’s cocky and has the presence that fills the screen. Already, I was smitten. While some people were saying the movie is rushed, I’d say this part of the intro felt a little draggy. But, the fight scene after is great, and we see Hanzo and Bi-Han throw hands.
I’d have to say at this point: ALL fight scenes including  Bi-Han/Sub-Zero were great. They’re the best. Every other fight scene with the other characters were decent but not great.
Then we get introduced to Cole Young. From the get go, I do not like new characters not in the lore. I’m that type of person who does not like original characters in fanfiction. And his story further made me feel that a lot of time was wasted on him. Mortal Kombat has story elements around family, yes, but it’s not central, and it made the movie too wholesome and not in a way that I feel implemented well. In my opinion, it made the movie a little cringey at times. I like Lewis Tan who plays Cole but unfortunately he’s been given a role that was completely unnecessary.
A Youtube reviewer said it best: Why make up an entirely new character when there’s a plethora of characters to choose from? Heck, if you want him related to Hanzo, you could have used Takeda or something (though yes i know he’s not related to Hanzo, but he could be like a distant cousin relative whatever, with Takehashi on one of this other parents side).
There’s Jax and Sonya - why not just use Sonya? She’s the one gathering all the information. They could have used her.
Anyway, moving on. We also meet Kano. He was good and I see a lot of people loved him. Personally I thought he was okay, but he was too comedic in my opinion and felt underwhelming. While funny quips and mockery are appreciated, he felt like what Liu Kang called him: A small, angry little bunny. Not at all what I’d expect of the leader of Black Dragon.
There was... it that supposed to be Reptile? I honestly do not know, but I don’t believe that’s the Reptile we know from the game, and more of a mindless monster that has Reptile’s abilities.
I loved Sonya in this movie. Jessica McNamee was amazing as her. One - she’s attractive as hell, and Two - she felt far more relatable than Cole Young. From her being a soldier living in her ‘shithole’, to her curiosity in trying to find out more about the Mortal Kombat tournament.
They look for Raiden’s Temple in the desert. This was a little slow and again, I say Kano just felt like a chump here. A try-hard doing his best to appear intimidating but failing.
Liu Kang appears. Kano won’t shut up. Liu Kang’s introduction was interesting and I liked it, but later on his monologues and exaggerated actions were so odd and ‘extra’ to me that I was cringing. I don’t know why they don’t just make him a normal guy who’s a Shaolin monk lol.
Raiden is as cranky as we know him in the game. He’s kinda dull here, but to be honest, so is he in the game, so I don’t mind it. I saw someone compare him to the 1995 version which while I enjoyed and appreciated, did not think he suited the game and movie. So Tadanobu Asano’s Raiden is fine to me! Also, shut up to the people who get on others’ case on the way they pronounce Raiden. In Japanese it’s Rai-den, not Ray-den, like they say in the game. Both are correct, so shut up.
Sub-Zero makes an entrance again, menacingly running down the hall and making me sploosh, and Kung Lao also makes an entrance. Here you can see how poor the CG is. This is where you can tell the budget is low and realise that all the sets we’ve seen so far is pretty small and closed.
The ‘arcana’ thing that they made up to explain their powers was honestly pretty smart and I quite liked it. It then becomes a training arc, which while understandably can be seen as slow, it’s quite needed for the story.
The villains in this story were sadly underutilised. Admittedly I am unfamiliar with Nitara and Reiko, so them being throwaway characters did not affect me. Kabal, while very charismatic, died but I felt it was a decent end. I personally wish they could have included him more. However, for Mileena and Goro, I could see the moment I watched it that people were gonna be mad. I’m not fans of either of them but I understood that they are major characters in the game. So for them to be offed that easily was... tbh very disappointing and quite insulting. I sincerely hope they will bring back Mileena for the next movie, experimented on and brought to life using Kitana’s blood or something.
But best villain? Obviously goes to Bi-Han/Sub-Zero. Honestly I went into the movie expecting to root for Scorpion but I ended up being so in love with Joe Taslim’s menacing and chilling portrayal of Sub-Zero. He’s soooo good. People said he was like a slasher film villain and I think they made a great choice doing so!
As for Cole - I’m still not a fan of him or his powers. I like they used tonfas, but as some called it - he has literally plot armour which, tru. Hahahhaa.
So finally after all that, we finally get to the last fight.
Sub-Zero is about to kill Cole then Scorpion is summoned. They both fight and actually one can see Scorpion is winning? He got more hits in than Sub-Zero (two stabs, a side slash and a throw from Scorp, meanwhile Sub got one slash and a throw) so I don’t understand why people thought he actually needed help from Cole.
Also, this is another major complaint about the ‘wholesomeness’. Why was Hanzo’s family killed but Cole’s family spared by Sub-Zero? Why couldn’t they just killed them off for extra weight to the story instead of making it so safe? I felt that would have redeemed Cole’s character as more of  Mortal Kombat character if they did so.
But I really enjoyed the fight here. As I mentioned all fights that involved Sub-Zero are amazing and people not giving the credit to this fight scene are blind. I also saw a comment that said they were expecting ‘John-Wick level’ of fight. Both fair and unfair comment because: It’s a low budget movie and they are two different styles of movies. John Wick is more realistic while this one is more fantastical. Though for them to call this a Marvel level choreography... I’m not sure bc Marvel put a lot of money, so that means for their budget the MK movie did well? So IDK but I believe the fight choreography was good in this most especially in the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fights.
Fatalities were great, costuming were great and for the sets while small and enclosed they did good.
Story could have been better and I cannot stress how much I find Cole’s role completely pointless. Pacing wise I actually do not find a problem with it. I only wished for more fighting and less about ‘family’.
From the movie overall I understood it as to be a set up, and even before watching it, from the trailers, I somehow knew it was not going to have a tournament so I don’t know why all these people in comments are lamenting about the lack of a tournament. It feels clear to me that this is a set up movie and more are to come.
So while I have a lot of issues with this movie, I do think it’s a fun watch which is why I give it a pretty generous score imo.
Hopefully we’ll have more to come, improving everything in all aspects with hopefully a bigger budget!

Predictions, speculations rumors and hopes for Spider-Man no way home
Cause I’m so excited!!!!
(To comeback to this once we have footage and then once the movie is out and watched)
- Both Andrew and Tobey will appear as their Spider-Man versions. I’m sure of it. I want them to have more screentime than iron man did in homecoming but not enough to overshadow tom’s spidey. Idk what’s a good balance. I kinda feel like in spiderverse, miles was way to overshadowed by the other spider people.
- It’s a sinister 6 movie. Doctor octopus and electro are back. Misterio was not confirmed dead. The Scorpio was teased in homecoming. I think that 3 spideys is enough to fight 6 villains. I heard the sinister 6 members varies sometimes in the comics and the mcu is known for having teams will different members than the ones in the comics but we’ll see. I wasn’t at all counting on the vulture to comeback, but I found out yesterday about Adrian on the vampire movie trailer so now I’m counting on him. Liz gonna be so disappointed in you old man
- Some people are saying that mj or ned will die... I think the movie will be way to dark for that and it’s already crowded af with the 3 spideys and at least 2 confirmed villains. But then I thought about aunt may... people complain a lot about the absence of uncle Ben or how it was a plot given to tony but what if marvel switches it for aunt may?????? I’m not ready
- Other rumors include Ned being transformed in whatever he becomes in the comics.... but this also just seems way too much for the movie.
- At first I was thinking that Peter was gonna be transported to tobey’s world where he is fighting doctor oc and then andrew’s world were he is fighting electro but I think they will do like spiderverse and everything will happen in the mcu dimension
- Daredevil will appear, for court scenes
- Doctor strange will have more screentime than he did in ragnarok but not as much as tony in homecoming
- Peter’s identity reveal as Spider-Man will be shown to us handled by the school via a midtown high news will all the main classmates being interview and shit kagdiegfidgfkdjod can’t wait for flash’s reaction!!! I wish they’d show us Liz but I don’t think she will appear
- This movie better be long and I mean at least 2h30min long. AT LEAST
- Tom said this was the most ambitious solo superhero movie ever. In my opinion, that title presently belongs to Captain America civil war, so I’m freaking excited!!
- The movie will start with a villain scene like the previous ones. I love how the mcu spidey movies always start with the villain. Then, after the marvel logo, it will pick up right where the credits scene left of cause I think someone shared a photo of the set that had that lamp post
- Some people are saying he will get a new suit, but I’m not sure.
- The movie is set during Christmas. So, if the movie starts of where it left, then we will either see a time jump of some months, or the movie will progress fast. I don’t want a time jump cause I wanna see Peter deal with the consequences of not having a secret identity
- Which brings me to the next point: I don’t want the identity reveal to be erased. I don’t want time travel, mind erasing, illusions. I really want this identity reveal to be serious in his life. I also don’t want the movie to be mostly set on other realities. I want the characters to come to his. But I mean.... it’s called no way home so he will most likely spend a big part of the movie trying to get home aka his dimension......
- also... what does that mean for mj and ned’s screentime?? I want quality trio scenes
- Some rumors said kristen’s mj and Emma’s Gwen will be back and as much as I want Gwen back I don’t think this rumor is true... not even because she’s dead, cause electro will comeback with a completely new design so gwen might still be alive in that dimension but I don’t think they will be in the movie
- I think it would made sense to include prom and graduation in the last movie but idk since that would make the movie take place during a whole year since I expect it to begin where it left of in the summer vacation time and we know for sure about Christmas time scenes. Maybe this one won’t be the last mcu spidey movie... I’m praying
- I hope happy is in this! I loved his relationship with may and Peter
- It would make a lot of sense for pepper to appear but the actress is done with the mcu so..... this is the problem with many marvel movies that we have to accept. Some actors just don’t wanna participate in more than 1 movie and some have been doing this for so long that they don’t wanna do it anymore. It’s understandable but so frustrating sometimes 😭😭😭
- The people in the movie will be devided between team spidey and team misterio (also proven by set pics)
- I can totally see this "who side are you on" being played in a news montage. And mister Del Mar being interview cause he knows Peter and he’s been saved by Spider-Man
- Some people are saying flash is going to have a bigger role and I hope
- I hope brad appears. He’s the real villain of far from home
- I want this movie to be action packed. I imagine it like infinity war where stuff happens and the heroes react. Like a ton of action from start to finish.
- some rumors explained why electro isn’t gonna be blue by saying cause he is todey’s electro and not andrew’s
- I watched a YouTube video about a leak from someone saw the storyboards. The beginning was very solid but then it got just too weird for me to believe. But they said Peter will go to the New York sanctum (?) in search of a spell to rever the identity thing and doctor strange doesn’t have such thing so he tells him to get a lawyer. This makes me believe that those photos already released of the trio, Peter, mj and Ned, are in this part of the movie. Maybe they arrive at the sanctum and search a lawyer on the computer. Tho idk if the location looks like a sanctum to me.... some people were thinking Hawkeye’s basement or something but I don’t think so
I think this is all I can think about rn.
I’m super excited for the movie.
I’ll probably keep updating this as long as we get rumors or news or footage and eventually the movie, just to see how right or wrong I was in the end
The movie comes out in December, meaning 8 years after I first watched the amazing spider man. We’ve come a looooong way

Season 8, Episode 11: Changing Times
Well, as it turns out, my second Covid vaccine kicked me down hard. After sleeping for quite a long time, though, I’m tired of sleeping and ready to try and get this write-up done.
Surprisingly, or...perhaps not so surprisingly, I don’t think I have that much to say about last night’s episode. I think we’re just too close to the finale for me to feel “safe” in guessing/hoping for anything in particular.
Let’s hit up the plot points like before:
The Triangle
Carson & Faith
Rosemary’s Purpose
School District Problems
Jesse’s Disappearance
The Triangle
I’m probably one of the few people who liked Nathan who felt like the whole beginning scene was super weird and uncomfortable. Homegirl held his hand for one second in the last episode and now she’s going to warm his serge by the fire (while he just stands there awkwardly??? He could have done that himself while she got him some tea or something idk) and then dress him???
I think we’re meant to see that as her going back to...I don’t know...old habits die hard or something? But she was barely married for any time at all and it’s been three years since Jack died. No way would she be so far into those old habits that she’d fall back into them with Nathan lmao.
Like, it’d be a REALLY GOOD PLOT for a character who had been married for years and lost a spouse (cough Abigail cough) but considering the circumstances it felt like a cheesy fanfiction! I wanted to like it, but I just felt weird about it. Tonal whiplash out the wazoo.
Especially when we had to watch Lucas drive by and see Nathan’s horse at Elizabeth’s house.
Lucas sadly watching Elizabeth talk to Nathan was also awkward, but at least it gave him the courage he needed to break things off with her.
You’d think I’d have a lot to say about the triangle, but I’m saving all of that for some kind of...post-season discussion. Who is she going to pick? Nathan seems like the most logical writing choice, but it could yet be Lucas. I genuinely don’t care who she chooses so long as she picks someone.
--
Carson & Faith
I like to hate on these two a lot, so you might be surprised to know that I’m enjoying their storyline. I’ve criticized this series over and over for never bothering to portray realistic relationships and one thing I can say about Faith and Carson this season is that things actually feel...plausible.
I also appreciate how they try to tie Carson into the town a bit more: he talks to Henry and Minnie and even Lucas trying to figure things out! It makes perfect sense to me; how do you choose between someone you care about/the potential life you could make with them, and a career that you’re really and truly passionate about?
This is the most interesting Carson has been since Season 5.
Anyway, the pudding scene was genuinely funny, and a great way to break up the stress that I’m sure we were all feeling about his impending proposal. Faith’s reaction to thinking he might propose was...pretty telling. I really wish they hadn’t saved so many dangling plotlines to solve in the final episode, though. I was hoping Faith and Carson’s storyline would be fully figured out in the penultimate episode so that we could let him go (or whatever) in the season finale. It just seems to me like it would be a good, smooth ending for them.
Also, for what it’s worth, they tried doing this kind of plot with Frank in Season 5, but it was rushed and pulled out of thin air; he’d never shown an inclination toward pastoring toward dying children in the past and it was clear that they just needed to write him off the show. With Carson, this sort of plotline works VERY well; he was a surgeon, and he was passionate about it, but that passion took a hit when his wife needed surgery and she died on the table under his hands. He’s had some time to move on from that and process his feelings, so it makes sense that he’d find that passion again. I just wanted to point this out because it’s interesting how well it works for Carson and how...well, not-well it worked with Frank. I really felt like with Frank, it was just a storyline that could have been given to anyone with the same success rate, whereas with Carson they took a look at the character and what we already know of him, and built the storyline specifically for him. That’s good writing, babes!
Anyway, Carson trying to propose in the vague hope that Faith will come with him, even knowing she doesn’t want to leave Hope Valley, is pretty manipulative and awful, but it really goes a long way toward making his character feel like an actual person. Like yeah, he does actually want the best of both worlds. Do you blame him?
--
Rosemary’s Purpose
I know a lot of people are really into this storyline but I found it boring. The only good part was when Lee called the other desk in his office “hers.” Everything else just felt like a bit too much to come to the conclusion that she should run a paper. We already had her “advice” column in the paper and it was...amusing while it lasted, but eh. I just don’t see good storylines coming for her from this angle, especially when they went the route of her finding out she wants to start the paper back up to share information with the town. Are we really going to trust Rosemary’s integrity when it comes to writing news stories, especially when MOST of the time the things she’ll be allowed to write about are, you know, who grew the biggest cabbage? It makes me dread the potential for Round Two of Nosy Rosie.
I dunno. I used to really like Rosemary but this season’s been pretty rough on her character. Good for you for wanting to find your passion career, but most of us work so that we can eat, not for a fun way to pass the time and stay busy. :/

School District Problems
Mr. Landis is right and Elizabeth is an idiot. Sure the school board is being assholes for no reason (as if they’d care if one blind child was sitting in a classroom in one western town lol), but Elizabeth’s really going to dismiss his concerns about how she can juggle the added work necessary to teach Angela while also keeping up with everyone else?
It sucks that Angela will get left out, but Elizabeth should be working with Mr. Landis to come up with a plan to teach Angela without sacrificing the education of her other students. Better yet, she could rely on her friends for advice. Like Rosemary.
Still no apology there...
Anyway, a projected 100 new kids? That’s outlandish. The only way that will happen is if they open a factory in Hope Valley, and even then it could take years. I MEAN, WHERE IS THE HOUSING GOING TO BE FOR ALL THE ADULTS THAT WOULD GIVE YOU A HUNDRED NEW STUDENTS LOL. I think we have to assume the plotlines are connected.
I also find it hard to believe the board would care about Elizabeth being certified to teach Angela. Where else is she going to get an education? It’s 1918 in the middle of almost nowhere???
This show drives me nuts with its attempt to be a “Frontier Show” while also shying away from the characters actually being stranded/cut off from society at large. You still had unlicensed teachers teaching in western towns in this time period because nobody cared!!!
ANYWAY, if Union City was like 3 miles away I could see them trying to combine schools. But it isn’t. So.
I dunno. I hate this plotline. I feel like they stole it from a better show (Road to Avonlea, where the bigger school was just a few miles away and it made sense to consider combining the schools for a better education system for the students as one-room schoolhouse teaching was proven to be less effective) but didn’t bother to consider any of the logistics of the storyline.
Maybe it’s my passion for education and history that makes me hate it, though. I know too much to find this storyline believable. I should also mention that I haven’t enjoyed Elizabeth’s role as teacher for a very long time. (I think they suck at writing Elizabeth as a teacher.)
I’m just not interested in wherever this is going to go because I can’t imagine it’ll have a lasting impact.
The only good thing I can say about the whole plotline is that I REALLY LIKED HOW BILL CAME OUT OF IT. I think he’s the only person who knows how to speak to Elizabeth. She struggles with blunt honesty at first, but ultimately tends to appreciate it, and that’s pretty much what she always gets with Bill. Also, the scene where he shuts her down didn’t make her look stupid, either (just worried/anxious), so I could appreciate it.
--
Jesse’s Disappearance
I couldn’t care less about this plotline if I tried. Jesse’s gone missing in the mountains before (was it last season? I don’t even remember because I didn’t give a damn about it then either) so this felt like a multi-reused plotline...for the same character, no less.
It’s also poorly implemented. Why doesn’t anyone else care about Jesse? Why is Clara pouring her heart out to Lee while her friends are failing to support her in the slightest? Why should any of us care when we know he’ll be fine?
It just feels so forced for the sake of drama, and it’s made 10x worse because there’s too much else going on at the same time.
Also, how convenient that they have to tell us how hard-working and dedicated Jesse is to his work to force this plot to even make sense... C’mon, he has never been a particularly dedicated to work. They just needed to explain why he would have left the car so that he could be “missing.”
Boring. I also don’t care that much about their “stolen” money.
The only good thing in all of this is seeing how soothing of a voice Lee actually has.
--
The best parts of the episode:
Henry calling Florence “Flo” GOT ME. It was so surprisingly cute???
I love Bill, and he really came out of this episode looking great! Finally, it seems they’re done writing him as a grouchy old man who hates everyone! In this season (and particularly in this episode), he is allowed to be capable, smart, helpful, loyal, and in possession of a great deal of integrity. I couldn’t believe that guy tried to bribe the judge in town right off the bat lmao...but the way Bill handled it felt very in character—very reminiscent of him from S3 or 4. He never shuts things down immediately, preferring instead to get more information to use against his, erm...opponent. Should he need it, of course. I was really happy to see him written well in this episode.
HENRY’S LETTER FROM HIS SON. STARTS OFF WITH “DAD,” AND SAYS PS. I LOVE YOU AT THE BOTTOM. Good for Henry.
Fiona’s backstory! Finally, we get some FIONA LORE. Neat.
PUDDING HANDS CARSON.

Episode 30, the alleged halfway mark, at last!
I’m fresh out of jokes so let’s hop right into the review!
Tumblr media
Pictured above: Characters who supposedly exist in this series
More under the cut as usual
So last week I listed the things episode 30 needed to do to make me not hate it. They were: 1) Sora had to stay with Taichi and be part of the action, 2) the other characters had to feature here and there to progress their storylines even if the main focus remained on Taichi, and 3) WarGreymon’s appearance needed to be dramatic.
Well... guess who didn’t get Bingo this episode -_____-’
I am... seriously... mind-boggled. This is bizarre. Yes, we all understand that evolutions just aren’t the big deal they were in 99 Adventure, BUT this episode DOES try to convince us that WarGreymon IS a big deal. It just fails at it spectacularly, in my opinion at least. As for the rest: Sora stays with Taichi, but he tells her to take the helpless Digimon to safety and then we don’t see her do anything but stand around waiting for Taichi. Most of the other characters don’t even get a cameo, let alone story progression. Taichi reflects on them briefly at one point but it’s unbelievably stupid. Only Koushirou has anything to do and he is STILL JUST STARING AT HIS COMPUTER.
My expectations for episode 30 weren’t super high, given the current storyline, but I’m honestly slackjawed by how BORING this episode was. They really seem to have decided to rest the entirety of the show on Taichi, and much though I love him, I just don’t think he CAN carry it by himself. Not only has he long been unbelievable as a grade school kid even for shonen anime standards, he doesn’t crack jokes, he doesn’t show personality... all he does is fight. Like, the show isn’t ALWAYS like this - I’ve legit enjoyed it a various times, and I know why - it was always when the team was together and we learned things about them and the fighting was balanced out. So I never know from one week to the next how I’m gonna feel about the new episode. But I do think this is the episode I hate the most to date. :/
Tumblr media
We had a promising start with Garudamon still actively fighting several Megadramon at once, simultaneously barbecuing Sora.
Tumblr media
Fortunately it’s magic so she’s not dead, nor has she fallen to death.
Tumblr media
Taichi and MetalGreymon continue fighting the Allomon on the ground.
Tumblr media
The mysterious Lopmon looks on with a judgmental glare, wondering why he isn’t currently being carried like a baby. Walking is hard, he wants to be carried. Taichi do your job
Tumblr media
Taichi: cmon lopmon you have to learn to do things on your own
Lopmon: no I want to play video games
Taichi: well then I refuse to buy you any more games. if you want them you’ll have to get a job and earn the money
Lopmon: daaaad! youre ruining my life! uggh!
Tumblr media
Koushirou keeps an eye on the misbehaving satellites.
Tumblr media
Taichi and Sora debate what to do. It’s difficult to protect the forest Digimon while fighting at the same time, so Taichi tells Sora to bring them to safety while he fends off their enemies on his own. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PLAN. Since it’s a shonen anime, I normally wouldn’t whine about this but... it was just last episode that we were shown Taich cannot cope with the combined attack of that many enemies at once on his own. He needed Sora’s help. Why he now thinks he can do it is a mystery.
Tumblr media
Taichi can maybe handle the Allomon and Megadramon on his own, but last episode Tankmon also appeared, and this time, lo and behold, in comes Parrotmon. Sorry Taichi but you brought this on yourself.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Koushirou communicates with “someone from the Internet” and learns that the satellites are all rerouting to converge on the same location:
Tumblr media
The freaking International Space Station!
Tumblr media
Which will then surely explode! And cause lots of trouble both in space and on earth!
Tumblr media
^Pictured: Koushirou’s “oh shit” face
Tumblr media
^Pictured:MetalGreymon’s “oh shit” face
Tumblr media
MetalGreymon proved to be weak to the lightning Parrotmon emits. If there’s a reason, they don’t explain, but I like the idea that he’s particularly weak to it because he’s a cyborg and the electricity disrupts his... circuits :P Then Parrotmon gets hit with a beam of dark energy and evolves!
Tumblr media
Into Klosmon? Krosmon? IDK, IDC.
Tumblr media
^Pictured: Taichi’s “oh shit” face
Tumblr media
They get their butts handed to them. Taichi and Agumon fall unconscious. Rather than take the chance to deliver the finishing blow, Klosmon or whatever politely waits for them to wake up.
Tumblr media
Taichi’s consciousness is swept into a white empty world...
Tumblr media
where he finds the Crest of Courage looking weirdly sentient... or maybe that’s just me...
Tumblr media
MetalGreymon just looks possessed
Tumblr media
Taichi: Are you alive?
Agumon: Yeah... you okay?
Taichi: Yeah... uhh... well... sort of...
Not being dead = I’m still ok
Tumblr media
So here’s where the episode really loses me... After visiting the blank world, Taichi is suddenly able to recall what happened after Devimon ate him.
Tumblr media
This makes little sense since he seemed pretty KO’d at the time, but okay, find, he woke up long enough to see WarGreymon and now he’s remembering it, sure why not. But I hate that they did this whole “ohh he doesn’t remember!” thing and then solved it like this. Presto! Now he remembers! It’s maaaagic!
Tumblr media
And as ADORABLE as the two of them holding hands like this and resolving to keep fighting is... I just can’t be impressed by a battle with Parrotmon. Or Klosmon or whatever it is now. There’s a reason most shows save dramatic moments and big epiphanies for battles that actually progress the storyline. It makes a much bigger impact. This just feels like someone saying “Woohoo it’s Tuesday!” and then you ask “what’s special about it, is it your birthday or something?” and they say “Nope I just felt like being excited that it’s Tuesday!”
I mean points for optimism and all but it doesn’t make a very good story.
Tumblr media
Taichi helps Agumon walk x’D They are planning to keep fighting even like this.
Tumblr media
And I get that the “never give up!” attitude is essential to the shonen anime protagonist, but when you literally can’t walk by yourself anymore, it’s important to take care of your health is ALSO an important message this show might consider teaching kids once in a while -.-”
Tumblr media
In spite of his unsteady legs, Agumon’s still able to evolve again and powers up to fight Klosmon.
Tumblr media
It uh... doesn’t go well.
Tumblr media
The one cool thing here is the way Taichi sets about attempting to make MetalGreymon evolve. Although we already knew the children play an important role in evolving their partners, Taichi seems to really understand it now, and focuses deeply. It’s a much more active role than we’ve seen before - it seems like more than the usual “encouraging thoughts and emotional ties” spurring the evolution.
Tumblr media
At least he’s still super cute.
Tumblr media
So we have already seen the Crests many times, I knew that... but my theory was that, in order to reach the final evolutionary stage, they would need the help of the physical Crests. So that’s what I thought Mimi was doing with those crystals.
Tumblr media
But Taichi is indeed about to call WarGreymon. So... I have no idea what use Mimi’s gonna find for those crystals x’D I suppose she’ll make herself and Palmon matching necklaces. Or sell them on the black market.
Tumblr media
From her super safe hiding spot, Sora watches in awe, wishing she too were a real character on this show and not just an inconvenience as far as most of the writing staff are concerned
Tumblr media
I love WarGreymon’s shield.
Tumblr media
BAM. He appears. It’s dramatic. But only just.
Tumblr media
WarGreymon defeats Klosmon and explodes the forest... Uhhh, weren’t we supposed to be protecting it?
Tumblr media
Taichi and WarGreymon then join Sora and the forest Digimon and uh... that’s the episode.

Oh yeah, we get one more hint that Lopmon is more than just some random idiot. Lol. This episode hinted at Lopmon, reminded us that Hikari’s been abducted, and told us that the International Space Station might explode, and then addressed none of those.
The message on the bottom says that the next episode will be on January 10, meaning there will be no episode next week as per usual due to New Year’s holidays.
Next week’s episode:

Turns out Lopmon is one of the holy Digimon or something. Honestly not a surprise, I mean, it’s Lopmon. Should have occurred to me earlier.

Also we got what I think is our first named mention of Millenniumon and it looks like Hikari might find out somethig about him. So that’s cool. The rest of the episode seems to stick with Taichi and Sora’s group... The only thing I can say hopefully is that, since WarGreymon’s appeared, MetalGarurumon ought to be not too far off. So that should mean we at least get a Yamato-centric episode in the not too distant future.
Okay, a couple weeks ago I said I had some stuff to say but would wait till episode 30 to do it... so stop here if you don’t want to read me ranting :P It mostly amounts to what I complained about in the beginning: This season is just so hyper-focused on the fights and seems to treat the team aspect as an afterthought. Which makes no sense to me. Honestly, I don’t mind the excessive fighting - that’s common in shonen anime and grown up me can’t expect to be interested in the same stuff that interests 8 year old boys.
I don’t even mind the idea of Taichi’s role as main character getting an upgrade - like, in 99, he was the main character, but it was felt a lot less. Better balanced with the others’ roles, I mean. I think it’s totally okay to make Taichi a more central character and the plot focus in the new season - it wouldn’t be my choice, of course, but that doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad. But the way they’re going about it just doesn’t make sense to me. Even Taichi isn’t interesting half the time. He just fights.
Like I said before, this isn’t the way the show always is. There have been some highlights. I truly loved a few episodes, and the show does seem to have fallen into a pattern of being good for a while and then degrading into something like today’s episode. I don’t know why: budget? pandemic? or is this really, legitimately, what the show producers want to show kids? I guess, in the end, this show really may be about selling toys and selling toys only. (But, if that’s the case, I’m even more surprised that they don’t make a bigger deal about all the evolutions...)
A lot of things I liked the most happened in the very beginning - the first three episodes in particular. The characters interacted with each other. Their feelings and actions influenced each other. Fighting happened, a lot, but it wasn’t the only thing happening. I was pretty excited then. I didn’t expect to love this show like I love 99 - that’s just not possible, I’m too old and 99 is too special to me for me to trust my judgment - I was just happy to see the Adventure kids back and entertaining a new generation.
But since then it’s been a roller coaster with few highs and a lot of lows. Although it’s hard to imagine how the pandemic would have changed the storyline, episode 4 was where they paused the show for Japan’s lockdown-but-not-really, and once they picked back up the tone just seemed kind of different from the first three episodes. Not right away - I think the intro episodes for the rest of the team were pretty reminiscent of “Digimon Adventure” - but that makes sense, they had 4 ready to go and probably had made headway on the next few episodes before they closed down the studio. Anyway, that’s just a guess, since it seems like everything’s been affected by the pandemic, but with a few exceptions we have all been back to work more or less normally since June...
The thing is, there are lots of fighting shonen anime - tons of protagonists who never give up and never fall in spite of how hurt they get, and who get unlimited “evolutions” in return for their tenacity. That’s all fine. It’s the genre. But the thing is...! The thing is, those other shows, they all tend to have humor, to care at least marginally about character relationships, and understand that that’s how you build up a main character: just winning fights alone doesn’t cut it. So I just don’t know what to make of this new Adventure show. It’s FINE when the team is together. We get cool character moments and insights and even some joking around. But they KEEP SEPARATING THEM. This time they didn’t even have more than a single episode together before they were all split up again! I wonder if it’s because they’re having trouble getting all the voice actors in due to pandemic-related issues and budget issues etc. If so, HUGE bummer. Of all the years for Digimon Adventure to get a reboot... why did it have to be this miserable excuse for a year...
Le sigh.
But there’s nothing we can do about it. I’m just going to like what I like and hope for the best in the future. I really would love for the new Adventure to be popular with kids and keep that cast going. I don’t expect it to compete with the lids of Kinmetsu no Yaiba or anything. I just hope that, when we hit the final episode, we look back and say that the season was overall worth the reboot. I hate the thought of looking back and saying “well, that sure was dull.” It’s just an insult. 99 Adventure wasn’t the most unique storyline in the world, but it had a lot of uniqueness IN it, and what made it special was its treatment of the team and the child-partner relationships. The reboot doesn’t need to be exactly the same, but it shouldn’t be forgettable.
That’s why us being at the 30 episode mark concerns me. At this point we know how the show is paced and what’s it like. We can’t really argue that we just don’t know enough to make a judgmenet yet. It’s hard to believe things will suddenly change. If they do, assuming the change is for the better, I’ll be thrilled, but I’ll also feel sad that we missed out on so many chances for cool things to happen in the first half.
