question for my fellow merthur compatriots, i recently started reading a merlin canon fix-it where merlin’s modern name was emrys hunithson, and like i love that name, touching, meaningful. but that and another post on this website has me thinking about the lovely alternatives merlin might use as his name in a modern world.
like yeah, he could go by merlin emrys, merlin hunithson, emrys hunithson
but imagine if he took up the last name pendragon.
1500 years pass and merlin’s traveling the world as merlin pendragon, as emrys pendragon or better yet
Tumblr media
ambrose pendragon.
merlin signs all his contracts and credit card receipts with the name a. pendragon.
arthur and the rest of the roundtable + gwen + morgana return but can’t find merlin. WHY?
because they’re looking for the wrong name.

Taiju and Yuzuriha have loved each other for 3,705 years and Tajiu's desire to tell Yuzuriha kept him conscious for the entire time he was petrified
Senku trusted without a doubt that Taiju was still alive and that he would be conscious enough to break through the stone without Revival Fluid, with no evidence to back it up
Yuzuriha used to pay attention to all of Senku's science lectures and he turned the science flag she made him into the symbol for the Kingdom of Science
Chrome literally spent his entire life rediscovering science and beat the second strongest warrior in the village to try and heal Ruri
Even while leading opposite sides of a war and trying to kill each other, Tsukasa and Senku considered each other best friends and they know each other so well they can predict the other's behavior
Gen, even before he'd met or decided to side with him, had already grown an incredible fondness for Senku and went so far as to condemn his soul to hell (his own words) to further his goals
Kohaku had complete trust in Senku immediately, despite never having heard of half of the things he talked about past the negative association with sorcery and is one of the only people to notice how much he actually misses his dad

Damians eyes are green in canon but some head canon that they were blue originally but my headcanon is that his eyes can change colour form green to blue but it depends on how you view him the colour that you’ll see
Bruce and Tim see green cause Bruce is remembering all the times he had with talia and is filled with regret about so much of the stuff that happened between them that he can only ever see that and the what ifs when he looks at Damian
Tim sees green cause he reminder of all the shit he went through cause of the al ghuls he has some prejudice towards them and Damian and he at first struggled to see him as anything other than an extension of them his eyes are still green even when they stop being directly hostile towards each other but bleed into his blue nearer the centre but where blue when he hallucinated him when he was dead and right when he came back
Talia sees blue eyes and all the possibilities that Bruce could have given her (she could have got them herself but Bruce meant not being alone at start) but she still stuck between him and her father
Dick sees Bruce’s blue and all the burden that comes with Damian being his son and all the responsibilities that dick now has because of it (they start looking like Dicks eyes at some point somewhere between that first night and we were the best)
Jason sees the change from green to blue his relationship with Damian is difficult half the time he’s fighting him half they vaguely getting along Damian and robin have different eye colour (it’s hard to now which one Jason would say is a child and which colour he hates the most blue cause of Bruce or green cause of himself)
Steph always saw green she saw how different he was from his father the robins that came before him she looked and saw an angry child but she still saw a child (she treated him like a kid from the start knew that no matter what you go through or did no one can take something like that form you could see the safety and uncertainty that childhood brings)
Duke sees grey Damian was the first robin that was younger than him a shadow smaller than his running across Gotham City a movement stared after the shadow got snuffed out and acknowledged when the shadow returned duke sees damian and sees the robin he went to the movies with sees his little brother
Damian’s eyes are a teal to cass they don’t interact at lot so she sees him through others half the ppl telling her blue or green and one telling her grey her eyes are brown but she still sees herself at 8 right before her first and only kill when she looks at him the empathy and desperation to please and protect those around her a desire to do what’s right but too young to really no more than what your taught

Ok I saw somone mention this and I wanna give my interpretation/hc of how Nicos shadow travel works. (I’m saying Hc because it’s pretty solidified in cannon these days even though I wish it wasn’t. )
So the DISTANCE of the jump, isn’t what drains Nico. It’s the power/amount of whatever he’s traveling.
For example Nico can take himself pretty much anywhere safely and consciously in one go. Maybe he gets a bit light headed or a bit out of breath but that’s it.
However if he’s taking lots of people or powerful artifacts with him. THAT is super exhausting. Because unlike him, they aren’t really made for shadow travel.
I also like the idea of the more powerful/godly a demigod is, the harder they are to shadow travel. Someone like Percy or Hazel, would take a LOT of Nicos energy to travel. But maybe someone like Grover or Rachel would be easier because there is less raw godly energy and they can slip in and out of the shadows easily.
A similar thing might apply to artifacts. If he’s just running a sword back to Annabeth in new Rome, he’s fine. But if he’s trying to teleport the Athena Parthenon from Europe, it’s significantly harder.
The more power he has with him the smaller the window of tolerance to shadow travel becomes, and the more he needs to stop and take breaks/ pass out.
Anyways shadow travel is cool and i think the cannon rules are dumb.

I feel like nendo is actually really intelligent emotionally
Like he will do anything for his pals
Like if one of his friends said something about themselves that he doesn't understand he'd look into it and respect it
He's be the #1 trans ally
Nendo tbh in the fandom is usually just seen as very dumb and wouldn't understand anything dire or important but I honestly think that's so wrong cause he seems to be the person to always understand saikis emotions when no one else does

Smthn else that's struck me on my more recent qt rereads (i.e. the last decade's worth, as an adult) which I don't think I fully grasped as a tween & teen, was the grace and /forgiveness/ at the heart of the series
Of course it's about love. Even idiot teen me could figure that much out. About love and its repercussions and salvific power and the ripples and waves it creates and Gen giving his heart on a toothpick to those around him. (And Rott recontextualizing this explicitly, as him being saved as well).
But I don't really think the forgiveness hit me before. I'm listening to koa at work rn, got to the scenes with Relius in the prison, and then in the infirmary. And it is then that it struck me. Eugenides forgives Relius, he pardons him, not because he wants to bribe him, or demands his service, but because Relius loves and serves Irene, and so does Gen, and so for the sake of his wife he forgives Relius, not so much for his inadvertent betrayal, but for Relius' interrogations when Gen lost his hand. (There is something to be said, too, of Gen, now in a position of power, understanding WHY Relius did what he did, it is distasteful, cruel even, but he did it to protect Attolia, just as Gen now does things he hates for her, and the country).
And it's not just Relius. Gen forgives Irene, we know this by the end of qoa, but also, he loves her, there's - as atypical and strange and their relationship may have started out - an expectation of forgiveness because it's within the bonds of love. There is no such expectation with Relius. And yet Gen forgives anyway. As he does with Dite, with Teleus, with Costis, with so so many throughout the books in various ways.
And it doesn't end with Gen! Gen's love and forgiveness of Irene is what allows Helen, and to a certain extent the MoW, to in their own time forgive Irene. It's what allows Irene to forgive herself, and in turn learn to forgive Relius and Teleus for their failures. Gen forgives Costis (albiet after baiting him, but he also forgives Costis accidentally spilling Gen's secrets to Baron Susa) and Costis in tat forgives Kamet's deception, as Kamet in turn forgives his. Gen forgives Pheris' accidental betrayal. Everyone forgives Gen his schemes and deceptions, too. And maybe Gen forgives himself for some of the things he's had to do as Attolis that he would otherwise not have wanted to do as Gen (acok is next, I'll need a relisten within this new thematic framework to decide. I think it's particularly important to his attitude toward Sophos there). Smthn smthn Gen also forgives the gods
Idk where I was going with this. Perhaps it's patently obvious to everyone Except Me because I'm An Idiot, but this is my what??? Dozenth reread? Probably more? And I'm still teasing out new threads. I probably will be for the rest of my life.

i think the difference between tumblr and other social medias is that reblogging is really encouraged here not just bc.. thats how the site works, but also because unlike sites like, instagram for example, your blog isnt really meant to be something other people root through at all. like your blog is for you, the “social” part of this social media lies in tags/reblogs, which while are technically interactions with the source post, are mainly to add to your own collage of posts on your own blog
i think the most social part of tumblr is actually the ask system, which to me is basically like a public DM, thats like the only part that isnt explicity for yourself...
like i dont even go back through my own blog! i dont know what the fuck is on there, unlike instagram in which every post is carefully chosen to show something specific about yourself ig. tumblr is just for whatever, like who cares dude.

I'm rewatching fantasy high sophomore year (and a bit of freshman) alongside the new season and I'm noticing so many weird consistencies and changes I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Like am I the only one that didn't remember that Fig's German Shepherd Instinct was a joke in sophomore year too?? And I had forgotten entirely about just HOW MANY EPISODES were spent in Leviathan, it was so many.
But by far the biggest thing I'm noticing is the change in Beardsley's energy. Early Kristen had this hesitant vibe where yes, she would do crazy weird shit the way any character played by Beardsley would, but she was always surprised at what the consequences of her actions were? or she kinda stuttered through the crazy in long pauses trying to think.
Now we have post-Starstruck post-Neverafter 5 years later Beardsley, who is obviously a completely different person, but the confidence and faith in the bit is so much stronger its insane. The "Who's the bitch in her lap, Ragh?" energy is astounding. The "Thats what yOuOuOu tHinK" move? Took me out in a way earlier seasons never could. I know a lot of these are easily explainable intuitive changes, but its so funny to me to point out.

Okay, so about people denying the fact that the clone assassin is tech by saying that Crosshair couldn’t undergo the conditioning because he was a defective clone, and tech is a defective clone so it would be the same for him… they have different kinds of defects tho… like crosshair was more susceptible to the inhibitor chip for some reason, while the others, aside from wrecker, never experienced its effects. It also could be some kind of immune system thing that crosshair developed towards the conditioning or whatever, if that makes sense… But also all of the bad batch have different kinds of defects so there’s that

Serotonin by Girl In Red is a really important song to me because it actually shows the reality of having intrusive thoughts
and especially since intrusive thoughts are so stigmatised it makes me feel so emotional because its not shaming me for having them or making me feel like even more of a horrible person for having them then i already feel about myself even tho i cant help that i have them in the first place but actually talking about what its like and what it feels like and it just makes me feel so seen and less alone
and the song itself is just so right. like the way the beat goes up and up and you keep thinking its gonna drop but it never does and that feels like the anxiety you get with intrusive thoughts because you can get so panicked by these thoughts and you cant make them stop! why the fuck wont they stop?!?!
and the way the different beats feel a bit like how fast your heart starts beating when you start to panic and drown in your thoughts
and the actual intrusive thoughts that are talked about because they are ones that people actually have and struggle with
and how the world makes you out to be this crazy person if you have them all but really they are very unwanted but no one understands that and how you are fucking terrified of yourself because of these fucking thoughts and feel like you dont have any control and want to just make it stop

thinking about god!merlin
the boy who did not know what he was or why he was born, questioning if he was a monster. the boy who heard of a destiny too heavy to carry on his own but doing so regardless because it gave him purpose. growing into his own power that seemed to get stronger and stronger every day. warlock!merlin noting that the druids revere him to an uncomfortable level, as if he were their messiah, their saving grace. which, according to the prophecies, is true. he is emrys and emrys is to save them all. the young man who does not abide by the laws of nature, who can create life without taking, who can speak a butterfly into existence, who commands nature with a yell, who can heal any and all ailments without punishment for avoiding death. the man who has died over and over again but keeps waking up, just a little bit off. he can feel his mortality burning away, with every spell, with every druid prayer and offering, with every death. the young boy searching desperately for his purpose and growing into the young man who kills without flinching because what is one little mortal life to him? who answers to emrys more than merlin now. who desperately craves to be young and naive and just. merlin.

anyway my thoughts on Barbie snubbery discourse are all over the place because obviously there is indeed an irony to Ken being nominated and not Barbie, mimicking the exact trajectory of the film. And it is kind of sad to think about that and it does suck because I think Margot was amazing as Barbie, and I would have loved to have seen her nominated for that!
But also. If we’re looking at it realistically, it all depends on the pools for each category. Margot and Ryan are in separate categories, so you cannot really compare their nominations because they were never competing against one another, but their respective peers from other movies. I’m not super familiar with the Oscars or with films generally, but from what I’ve heard the best actress category this year is particularly stacked, so the competition for Margot was really hard. At the end of the day, there’s only 5 slots! If Margot was in, another one of the nominated actresses would have to be out. It’s just that Barbie is the bigger movie so it’s getting all the attention.
Also a lot of the extended arguments about it diminish the own original argument’s point. I’ve literally seen people saying Margot was snubbed because of misogyny and then in their next tweet going on a rant about how Margot deserved it way more than America and it’s wild that Barbie got noms in xyz categories but not best actress. Like, if you’re putting down America to hype up Margot in the name of feminism…let’s unpack that for literally half a second, i mean? they aren’t even in the same damn category!!! ~~ “Why was “I’m just Ken” nominated for best song and not Margot!!!” ~~ Well now how it that remotely relevant?? what the heck are you even talking about?? 😭 if you dislike that the song was nominated you should be comparing it to other songs you wish had gotten nominated instead, not randomly bringing it up in a conversation about best actress.
But on the other hand, people saying “well no, Margot didn’t actually deserve a nomination as much as the 5 selected actresses” (which in itself is a totally fine and fair opinion) are by and large just pretentious film twitter commentators who can’t resist but to go on to remind us all that they think Barbie was a shit movie, and generally act like Margot is less talented because she starred in a comedy, and therefore her acting was “less serious” than their artsy indie favs. Which is also deeply annoying and emblematic of how the Oscars and film buffs view certain genre movies like comedies in general.
Which is all to say, I generally think there are far greater threats to feminism than the Barbie movie not getting a best actress and best director nomination, lol. But it’s cool that it’s bringing awareness to the Oscars long-standing problem of bypassing women in favor of men (especially in categories like best director) which is something we should talk about! Greta’s snub is perhaps no different than any other director snub in any other year, but the pattern of female directors continually being snubbed is a problem worth unpacking! I just wish people would stop talking about it only in soundbites and delve into that deeper systematic issue with arguments that actually make sense.

I miss 2021-22 era AI image generation. When it was consistently… shitty enough to be funny. I miss the YouTube trend of “i fed every line of this song into midjourney or dall-e and timed it to the song— look, it’s funny and surreal and reflects so bluntly the cool imagery that the songwriter put in the song”
Now AI images are still shitty enough to be boring and soulless, but un-shitty enough that people are trying to pass them off as their own drawings or sell them for money, creating all these depressing ethical issues
Machine learning is fascinating. It scratches a certain itch in my brain to find out what patterns exist in a corpus of text or images, patterns that it is possible for a robot to find. The best role for AI was “a silly little toy to use to have fun and riff on existing person-made art”, revealing the patterns in the corpus with a unique robotic honesty. Genuine creativity is unique to person-made art, but AI images used to have something unique to them too, in this magical naïveté that comes from brute adherence to patterns, that made it insightful and funny— made it ART in its own way.
I miss when AI art was shitty enough to be art.

No because in an arc where the page is so important.
How are the decay of angels letting Atsushi, the guide to the book itself run free?
I mean Dazai's in prison, Ranpo's on the run, the rest of the agency are incriminated and are being hunted down.
But while Nikolai fights Atsushi, he says it himself that Atsushi isn't a murder target. And he leaves him stuck underground but Atsushi can still escape.
Sure people come and would presumably arrest him on sight because he's part of the agency.
But they aren't soilders, they're the forensics team.
And not for nothing I think Atsushi could handle them before backup was called and get away.
I'm glad Kyouka went after him but Atsushi wasn't really in any immediate danger after Nikolai left.
It's only after they escape that shit gets complicated. But even than Atsushi isn't attacked by the Hunting Dogs until hes left to face Fukuchi.
Who has no qualms about killing him.
And it's not like Fukuchi cares for Atsushi's safety nor needs him alive or something.
I mean Fukuchi tells Akutugawa straight up to kill Atsushi if he wishes to join his ranks.
Which does make me wonder if his plan was to kill Atsushi, and make him a vampire instead.
And that's why no ones tried to kill Atsushi till now.
With Akutugawa suspecting they were after Atsushi (without knowing about the vampire shit) and thus Akutugawa made his own strategy to give Atsushi an escape route.
Remember Fukuchi was going to go back in time and prevent Atsushi from escaping.
Until backup showed up and he realised how complicated it would've made the time line to stop Atsushi from escaping.
Also the back up only showed up because Akutugawa chose not to kill that one guy.
So Fukuchi doesn't go after Atsushi. But it could be why Vampire Akutugawa still attacks and than bites Atsushi.
Remember Fukuchi is still controlling him.
But on the other hand, Atsushi surviving might've also been part of the plan.
Not on Fukuchi's part but Fyodor's.
First of all, because Nikolai keeping Atsushi alive was presumably him following Fyodor's instructions.
Second of all, Atsushi being free is how the Guild comes into play.
When Atsushi goes to Fitzgerald for help, he's in the middle of squaring off with Nathaniel, who we know is working for Fyodor.
And who later shows up at the Sky Casino and ties a string of blood to Atsushi.
Not one made to kill him like the one with Fitzgerald, but one to follow him.
A plan that was stopped by Lucy, who Dazai names on the imaginary prison chess board as his Queen.
So Dazai would be aware, hell he may have suspected both outcomes. He did meet with Akutugawa prior to all of this afterall.
And well it's not the first time Dazai has let himself get captured to figure out what someone wants with Atsushi.
Fyodor has said numerous times that he wants the book, not the page but the book.
He's the one who put the bounty on Atsushi in the first place. And why the Guild captured him and were gonna incinerate everyone in Yokohama but Atsushi.
To find the book.
Yes the page is part of the book but it's only got two sides. And is kinda treated as it's own entity, which I'm guessing is because it's separate from the book now.
For what Fyodor's got planned he needs the whole book, which Atsushi is the key too.
I think if Fyodor wanted Atsushi alive it's because if Atsushi became a vampire even if he aided Fyodor, ultimately he'd still be under Fukuchi's control.
Fyodor who's directly called out as someone who trust anyone he can't control.
Fyodor and Fukuchi are both apart of the same organisation, though they share different end goals one thing is certain: They need the book.
And for that they need Atsushi.
It's just whether they care if he comes to them alive or dead.

So I just saw the new Willow episode and I wanna share some thoughts about Kit's character and her relationship with Jade, Boorman, and Elora.
Spoilers ahead.
Episode three certainly was something. And while it had a great impact on a lot of characters, I want to focus on Kit a little bit (mainly because she's such a little shit and I love her for it).
This episode changed a lot of things for her. Kit can no longer deny that Dove, this unimportant kitchenmaid who just seemed to be her brother's latest plaything, is actually Elora Danan, the woman who is destined to save all of them. Kit saw the result of Elora's magic.
But what does that mean for her? What does it change? The answer is everything.
First it means that her mother has lied to her all her life. In episode one, Sorsha said:
"[...]Tomorrow Prince Graydon marries my daughter, Kit. At last unifying Tir Asleen and Galladoorn, [...] strengthening us against any threat we might face. [...] may they rule wisely and justly, and defend our realm till that day when the true empress Elora Danan returns"
When I first saw this scene, I must admit, I was a little pissed. Sorsha basically called her daughter a fucking stand-in.
But looking back now gives this scene even more weight. Because Elora was never gone. She was there, hidden in plain sight, the whole time. Sorsha was willing to marry her (very gay) daughter off to some guy she doesn't even know, obviously forcing Kit into a situation she felt very uncomfortable with, just to keep up her charade. Something she even admitted to Boorman later on.
That alliance through marriage is only necessary to unite the kingdoms to protect the realm until Elora returns. If Sorsha had decided to let Willow train Elora from the beginning on, the marriage most likely wouldn't have to exist since the realm would already be united under Elora.
I don't know if that's too far-fetched. If Kit still would have been married off to Graydon to secure an alliance. My point is, that Kit feels betrayed by Sorsha. She already did so because Sorsha tried to force her into a loveless marriage, but that betrayal just became a lot more impactful.
But her mother is not the only person she feels betrayed by. If Elora was with them all the time, it also means that Madmartigan didn't have to leave them to protect Elora. That tale, that explanation of his departure that Kit tried to make up for herself, has now completely fallen apart.
So far as Kit knows, her father left her and Airk to chase after some myth about magical armor. And that's where Boorman comes in. He was with her father. He knows what happened to at least a certain point.
The thing is, he is obviously not being completely truthful either. After episode three I honestly don't really trust him anymore. He acted very suspiciously when they reached the Slaughtered Lamb. Plus he lied to Kit about what he found in the well. So I keep asking myself, what is his goal. Boorman claims that Madmartigan found the Kymerian Cuirass, yet he never returned from his adventure.
I doubt Sorshad would have sent Boorman away with her daughter if she truly thought that he had something to do with Madmartigan's disappearance. But I'm sure that Boorman knows a lot more than he lets on and that he is following some sort of agenda on his own.
And that he is using Kit to get to it. He keeps feeding her breadcrumbs about her father and although she keeps asking, Boorman always deflects from Madmartigan's fate.
Of course, that's only theory and could be complete bullshit but at the same time, I find it too suspicious to just ignore.
And that leaves us with Jade in the end. Over the first three episodes, their relationship got pretty dented. At first, Kit felt betrayed by Jade because she was prepared to leave her when she needed her the most. Jade felt hurt by this as Kit wasn't happy for Jade following her dreams. All of that changed, however when Airk got taken. Kit clearly appreciated Jade coming with her and probably wasn't even that mad at her anymore (given the straddling and kissing and overall very gay behavior).
But then Elora came into the picture and better turned to worse again. They became hostile toward each other and more distant. Before Dove's true identity was revealed, there were comforting touches (like when Jade talked about her deceased parents) or soft smiles (like when Jade was watching Kit sleep). But once Willow said who Dove really was, that stopped. Jade believes in Willow and Elora, something that Kit clearly didn't. In Kit's eyes, they were just wasting valuable time that could determine Airk's fate. Airk, who she had a very big fight with. Kit is feeling a huge amount of guilt.
So their relationship strained over time, but the reveal that Jade let Kit beat her during their sparring sessions, that was a huge blow. You could literally see the hurt and betrayal in Kit's eyes. How she questioned everything. Has Jade been letting her win since the beginning? Has she ever actually beaten her or was it all just an act? How much did Jade hold back? Was their friendship just an act too? Was Jade only her friend because she was the princess? What else has Sorsha told Jade to do?
And now combine all that with the fact that Kit has feelings for Jade. That fucking hurts.
But Kit still cares. When Jade was forced to kill her mentor, Kit tried to comfort her, even if they were interrupted before she actually could.
How Kit handles the situation in the next episode is going to be very important. I love her, but girl needs to forget about her pride and swallow that ego of hers.
She saw that Dove truly is Elora Danan. And she saw that Willow was much more than she originally thought. And I believe that that will have a huge impact on not only how Kit interacts with those around her but also how she views this quest.

i feel like the way ‘dogtok’/‘dogstagram’ talks about reactivity makes reactive dog owners feel a lot more ashamed than they ought to
#idk i just.. don’t really see anything to be ashamed about? and i hate the ‘your dog is reactive because you FAILED’ mindset#sometimes you do absolutely everything right and the universe still throws some shit at you that leads to reactivity#and it’s just a thing that happens sometimes#dogs are animals with teeth and claws and fur and tails#they shit outside and roll in dead things and sniff each others butts#and sometimes have big feelings about things#and that’s just part of being a little critter#it’s not a moral failing on anyone’s part that your dog is a dog instead of a cardboard cutout of a dog#not everything goes smoothly 100% of the time and sometimes you end up with an extra Thing that needs to be worked on#and yeah of course Working On It can be stressful. no one wants to see their dog having a hard time. which is exactly why we don’t need to#-be pushing the added stress of GUILT#it’s not helpful to anyone. it doesn’t prevent reactivity in the future. it just makes someone who’s already having a hard time have a-#-worse one#this is not a situation that needs blame#idk if any of this makes sense#my meds are making me a lil weird lmao#@ everyone who has a reactive dog: you’re doing a great job and if anyone tries to make you feel guilty#eat them#keep Workin On It and remember that Dogs Is Dogs#kill the goblin in your brain that tells you you’re the worst guy to have ever done it#you’re normal your dog is normal. give both of you a cookie rn
