Okay, i had this analysis in my notes for a loooooooooooong time, and idk if anyone had take a look in this aspect of Poppy Playtime/the Biggers Bodies Initiative, but is something that REALLY make me raise a eyebrow when working in the VHS for the critters.

So, let's talk about the confuse and inexplicable choices in Play.Co while creating the BBI

First of all, let leave it clear WHY they started this project.

Everywhere it said that they start it for two reasons: The first one, Ludwig's wish to revive her daughter/relative (something that worked i guess, since we have Poppy), and second reason, the one that the company care most, to reduce cost in employees with creatures that would take orders without asking questions (yay, no healthcare for the experiments!), since Play.Co was having a huge financial crisis at said moment (Again, due Ludwig draining all the money into the poppy investigations and the creation of playcare).

Okay, till then everything's right, the project started and the prototype and Poppy were created, for this analysis, let said the prototype is just like a humanoid/android amalgam, something they created to see if it was possible to bring someone to life, so they didn't care a lot about looks. Okay, good...

Then we got Boxy Boo

WHY IN THE LIVING HELLSITE WOULD YOU GIVE HIM TEETH AND CLAWS?!?!

''Oh his cartoon counterpart have it'' No, Cartoon Boxy had ONE little pointy tooth, and tiny claws, nothing this extreme.

''His purpose was to dispose any lower-ended employees aware about the Initiative.'' okay, right, first of all, gross, second of all, what they would do with him once there's no employees? 'Cause the plan was to not have more humans working in the factory at some point, this is basically the equivalent of adopting a lion to stop a mouse infestation, wasn't more easy to force everybody to give their resignation letter? Oh right, don't wanna loose those last paycheck, i see...

Okay well, such mistake with this fella, let see the next succesfull experiment-

WHY????

''His purpose was to function as part of the factory's security.'' No, no no no don't try to give me this bullshit, theres no need for the teeth, Huggy as a 8ft tall walking anomaly is enough to make any thief or tresspasser shit their pants if they saw him, the double set of pointy teeth in that big mouth of his is highly unnecessary, where they even got the teeth?!? Nor Children or human have teeth like that!!

Well, with this clear at least we can make a kind of timeline with the rest of the experiments before Catnap, 'cause we can see theres a change between teeth experiments and no teeth experiments like catnap or Mommy, maybe they learned that giving such weapon to the creatures they're trying to control isn't the most bright idea...

But still, said leasson didn't prevent them from creating the mini huggies, that remember, ARE ALSO REALLY AGRESSIVE!

And see, they weren't create for security like Huggy, no, this one were created TO PLAY WITH THE CHILDREN, but they basically break your neck if they catch you, and also, maybe is not the biggest part of them, but they have little pointy teeth too, again, why?

I can keep going: Why created a Pug-a-Pillar so big? Maybe something half the size would be good for children and less dangerous. Why give Bunzo pointy teeth if they're just a music player for a game? Why make Catnap so big if probably a half a size creature would make the same work with the red smoke? Why let Mommy so much mobility aroung the factory? She's not just the biggest experiment so far, but she also is able to free herself in any case thanks to the material she's make of, don't mention the fact that everybody knew she was hostile with adults, what, praying that there was always a child present to keep her grounded was their best idea?

Where i'm going with all of this? Well, Basically, Play.Co was doomed till the beginning with this iniciative, 'cause instead of created more physically controlled creatures or make better security systems, they basically created killing machines with plush textures to feed the sadistic mind of a mad scientist and fill the pockets of the shithead behind the administrative part of the factory, and instead of take all the security step you should take when dealing with dangerous creatures,they just treat them like emotionless toy without batteries that they could boss around without problem, and then Poppy react all shocked while retelling it.

Endint this, i hope all of the corporative and administrative members where in the factory during the hour of joy, 'cause they fucking deserved it.

the fucking KIDS at welton. the CHILDREN. maybe its just me but i always find myself forgetting that welton isnt a highschool + there are in fact a lot more students than the ones we're focusing on. thats what makes welton so like. evil? to me? they start pushing these kids into a box EARLY.

related, i wouldve LOVED to see how(/if?) keating taught these kids, or rly any other class! he has other classes!!! i think!

ok. of course. neil is a smoker, we've touched on that. but charlie is too?? and he's the one who provides the cigs???? obviously the easy explanation is that he does it to be rebellious and stuff but also Is There Something Else. much to think abt. also wondering where he gets his cigs but thats not rly anything i dont think.

this ones just funny but when mr perry tells the boys they can take a seat and todd simply does not. i KNOW he wasnt sitting before and he needs to unpack and stuff but ITS STILL FUNNY.

also!!! neil calling his dad sir. obviously its something so glaringly obvious that we dont need to have a discussion abt how theres a disconnect between them. like wow rly thanks mona i didnt know. but come on!!! it makes me sad!!! also they shake hands later in this scene and its the most affectionate/ friendly we see these two get. and its a handshake. and i think what makes it worse is that neil is a SUPER physically affectionate person with his friends. if u watch the movie and pay attention to how often he's touching someone else then ur gonna be like man. he rly was jumping at every opportunity huh.

something about the way neil and the boys act around mr perry makes me view him as more of a drill sargent than anything. everyone immediately stands upon him entering the room. they dont sit until given permission. it rly puts the whole military school thing into perspective but NOT ENOUGH TO SATISFY ME. as much as i hate mr perry, i wanna know what his life was like growing up. this man lived thru the great depression AND wwii, theres stories.

cam's stupid fucking face when keatings behind him larping ghosts. i will never stop talking about how sassy this kid is. the dps redheads go criminally unacknowledged in terms of comedy because OH MY GOD. CAM AND MEEKS WERE SO FUCKING FUNNY??? they both pulled the most dastardly judgemental looks and they make me cackle. a bit earlier in this scene meeks goes full 🙄🤨 on sniffles (tissue kid. i call him sniffles) and it is, without exaggeration, my fav part of the movie.

the fact that i totally thought knox was gonna fall off his bike and eat shit in this scene. it would be so out of place since dps isn't exactly full of physical comedy but GOD i still fully anticipated it. either that or him getting attacked by a bird. theres totally symbolism surrounding birds in this movie btw and idk what to make of it. if any of u lovely ppl have a theory then lmk immediately.

keating so accurately calling cam out being like "is this right is this right. am i walking right." BC YESSS. i will eventually make a fully fledged cam post but to briefly touch on it, i find cam to be very confused on what is right, usually in terms of morals. a whole situation of confusing your personal values with the rules, thinking theyre one in the same, and completely abandoning what u actually believe. unfortunately i think neils death rly amplified that nd is what led him to tattle. cuz cam is still willing to break the rules in the beginning of the movie!! he's outwardly judgemental but he still does it!! much to discuss, i promise i will eventually.

keatings face after todd yawps!!! theres not much to say here he is just so proud!!! sweet little moment!!!! keatpostin!!!!!!!!

u guys know im an avid knox hater but this made me giggle. rip knox overstreet u wouldve loved twitch streaming.

THE SPECIFICS OF THIS SHOT. i was gonna make a post a while ago being like "idk i find it funny that the main focus of this shot isnt even one of the poets" and then i realised that WAITTTTTTT THATS THE POINT!!!! keating reached kids besides the poets!!! u didnt have to be in the dead poets society to be affected by the way he taught his classes!!! u just had to be his student!!!!! also i love the fact that the kids who stayed seated r ASHAMED. EMBARRASSED.

the ending shot. oihghgghgg. it was SUCH a choice to set it up this way and honestly i adore peter for making it. this shot is SOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE TO LOOK AT and i love it. when i first watched this i was like "uhm ok interesting choice putting todd between this kids legs but I GET IT. one of the biggest things i remember from the film classes i took is that the way u set up shots is sooo important narratively, and one way to rly push the narrative is the space around a character in a shot. for example! if u have a character on screen surrounded by a TON of negative space then it rly emphasises how alone/ isolated they are. on the other end of the spectrum (the todd spectrum), if you surround a character in a shot with other objects or obstructions, like todd and this kids legs, then it rly emphasises how trapped and confined they are. looking at this makes me feel like. claustrophobic almost, like it's genuinely a bit harder to breathe looking at it. TODD IS STILL TRAPPED IN THAT SCHOOL. YES HE STOOD ON THE DESK AND YES HE NOW HAS THE MOTIVATION TO BE MORE CONFIDENT BC OF NEIL BUT HE! IS STILL! TRAPPED THERE!

i was also gonna add that we dont rly talk about todd personality wise outside of poetry and anxiety but then i realised, what else is there? we dont really see much about him as a person outside of that, and i think thats the point! todd is constantly overshadowed by his brother, we know that, but i dont think we realise HOW MUCH that ties in with his entire character. quite honestly, outside of poetry and anxiety, ALL we have surrounding todd is his brother and his achievements. and of course! that makes sense! his parents want him to be just like his brother, they dont care about who he is as a person. UGH.

the desk set scene rly is the most insight we'll get into todds actual personality and desires imo, and thats what kills me. he wants a car!!!! get this boy a car!!!!!!!!! we rly see him start to open up before neils death and i wouldve LOVED to get to know todd when he's actually in a place to be himself!! but of course we never got that! sobs.

anywho. thats all i have for now. PLEASE share ur thoughts if u have any pls pls pls. encouraging discussion!! i love love love hearing about the specifics nd stuff, theres soooo much to pick apart abt this movie so i wanna hear everyones thoughts.

OK SO HUGE SPIDERVERSE 2 SPOILERS HERE i wanna discuss what themes i was picking up on and that i'm the most excited to see resolved

obviously theres FAMILY and PARENTING but i'm more interested in the themes presented with how The Spot developed and ALSO how that relates to miguel's whole situation

there is one main thing i wanna talk about tho:

inflexibility/the justification of cruelty

To me this is the core of the conflict behind both what happened with The Spot (my beloved) and whats going on with Miguel & the other spider-people's adherence to maintaining the status quo of their shitty shitty lives.

the inflexibility/justification of cruelty is obvious with miguel, it's like his whole thing. but I think it's less obvious with Miles. Miles cracks jokes to cope like a lot of spiders do, but his mockery of The Spot made things WAY worse. Like, here's this guy who tells you a harrowing story of how his life got ruined, and yea it's not entirely your fault but it's also not completely unrelated to you. He's completely alone, no one will hire him, he's a freak! And to top it all off, you won't even let him steal some money so that he can fucking live! whats he supposed to eat, miles?????? where's he supposed to LIVE.

and yea that's a lot to drop on a 15 year old but he's also a superhero (the age of which most people don't know) and the LEAST he could do, the BARE minimum imo, is take this guys pain seriously. even if he does look funny or weird, and he's not a huge threat at the moment.

I think we were supposed to relate to miles while he was fighting The Spot a the start, we saw the meeting with his parents and how bad he needed/wanted to just get the fight over with to stop disappointing them. But if you think about it from the spots perspective the whole thing wasn't just humiliating and frustrating- it cemented in his mind that spider-man was an uncaring and cruel person who didn't give a shit about him as long as he didn't disrupt the status quo of normal people or whatever.

but who cares, right? Miles does that all the time. that's just how things are, right? there's no need to change how he thinks about the lives of the people he fights so long as it doesn't affect him personally :/

And that's kind of what miguel does too. he's just more aware and active about it. he does things he'd rather not do, makes sure people suffer the way he thinks they have to because that's just how things are.

and both of those are probably not actually necessary! it's needlessly cruel to force spider-people to lose the ones they love, and it's needlessly cruel to mock and belittle a man who's had his life ruined to the point he needs to turn to crime just to survive.

I can't prove it yet cause the next movie hasn't come out yet, but I feel like it would be a bad idea for The Spot to die, I can accept him dying but only if they acknowledge that this isn't entirely just because The Spot is like, idk, evil or something. I want them to acknowledge the cruelty and pain that lead to this.

The same way it wouldn't make sense for Miles to end up agreeing with Miguel, it just doesn't match with the themes they've set up so far. Miguel is clearly coded to be in the wrong about what he thinks has to happen, and I suspect there's an aspect of his story/history that we aren't aware of. I can't say how or why but I think he's wrong about why the universe he went to fell apart (maybe he knows that, maybe not?) but I guess we'll have to see.

anyway can't wait for spider-man 3: even more fucking spiders!!!!

rin's ln chapter is still haunting me by simply being rin's story lol. it's not about sae it's about rin's life and yet rin's life was all about sae. he's weaved in every thread he was the whole picture of it but it's rin's like there's somewhat of a like. spectator angle to it, as is the case with hiori to karasu in the 3rd volume. sae was rin's whole being and yet we don't really know what sae's story actually is bc theres only one mc seat and absolutely no character can cross this line

n the thing that truly fucked me up is that I Know sae's story isn't going to be About Rin. this isn't a two-way thing going on sae was always his own being sort of. rin was there. there's no other way he's his brother so rin was there. but sae experienced [insert everything that rin has seen bc again we don't know what his story actually is] like rin was there but he's not the whole thing... something something sae lived in the real world but rin lived in sae

I guess there's something haunting in it, in the way rin's story is also about sae and sae's story was never about rin. bc the sae in rin's story is almost like a concept we don't really know or understand him except from the stories rin tells us. sae was there, but the individual being with his own story wasn't, while in sae's story. well. idk how to say this but even if sae did see him as his own person, it doesn't really matter, does it? we know following sae's life path was rin's whole thing. that's the person sae would see, right? his brother.

it's just that. they were both devoid of meaning or perhaps ego in their own respective ways in both of their own stories. rin was only repeating part of sae's story in his own story, while sae faced a crisis at some point which id bet means his story would be one of losing one's own meaning, like that descent into emptiness. the only thing that defined them, then, and i say this laughing very grimly, is that they're brothers.

Be Kind, Rewind

Pairing: Randy Meeks x reader

Warnings: none just fluff

"Back again I see," Randy said happy to see your face. You pursed your lips handing him your tape. "Did you remember to rewind it this time?" You huffed leaning on the counter. "Yes, smartass." He smiled setting the tape on the return cart. "Well don't keep me waiting." Randy had been waiting all weekend for you to come back to give him a review on his movie. "I hate to say it but you missed with this one."

"What! Prom night is a classic." His voice was loud making the store look at the both of you. "Sorry." You mouthed to the people around you getting embarrassed by the man. "It was a total Carrie rip-off. I like Jamie Lee Curtis as much as the next person but that movie blew." Randy plugged his ears walking around the store humming so he couldn't hear you. It was a childish move. You laughed following him around. "I can't believe this right now. I thought we were friends." Randy was dramatic and only part of it was acting.

"We are! What'd you think about the movie I gave you?" Hearing that he stopped in his tracks turning to face you. "Career Opportunities really?" The tone of his voice let you know that for the 6th time in a row, your hints went right over his head. You sighed as Randy prepared himself for a rant. "I don't understand how you can watch that crap. It's not realistic. A nerdy loser never has pretty girls pining over them. It's just a trope in romantic comedies to get men hopeful that some babe would ever like them back."

You pursed your lips with a nod. "Guess that means I'm not pretty." Randy grabbed a handful of returns putting them back where they belonged. "You're beautiful I've told you that. Why would you say something like that?" You could laugh at how oblivious he was. Sometimes you wish you were some cheesy horror babe in a movie so he'd actually understand you for once.

"You said, "nerdy losers never have pretty girls crushing on them." So that must mean I'm not pretty." Randy's brain malfunctioned as he replayed your entire conversation. He didn't understand what you were getting at.

"Randy you geek, I like you. God, do I have to spell it?" The poor boy froze as a woman walked up behind him. "Excuse me sir do you know where the Clint Eastwood movies are?" Randy didn't respond. "Um, they should be over in the western section." You walked the old woman over to the aisle. "You like me?" Randy shouted causing the whole video store to go silent. Every customer in there looked at the crazed teenager. "Here you go, ma'am." You ignored Randy pointing towards the movies.

Your friend ran over to you not paying attention to the newfound attention. "Thank you, sweetie." She replied quickly getting away from Randy. "You like me like a brother right? I've gotten that a lot over the years." You shook your head letting him figure the rest out on his own. "A cousin then? Maybe even a step-sibling?"

The questions made your nose crinkle. "Ew no." Randy still needed to narrow it down. "You like me like a best friend then?"

"Are you brain dead? She has a crush on you." A random customer chimed in annoyed with the boy. You laughed at the bystander. Randy just stood there bewildered. "Wait so I'm a nerdy loser?" Confusion washed over your features. "You said that I said, "nerdy losers never have pretty girls pining over them." So what I'm some nerdy loser?"

"Do you seriously want me to answer that Prom Night?" Randy gestured with his hands as he spoke. "It's a classic ask anybody!" You simply squinted saying everything you needed to with your eyes. "Okay maybe I am a nerdy loser but what does that make you for liking me?"

"According to you, it makes me ugly." You laughed setting the poor boy up for failure. "N-now that's not what I meant. I didn't know you liked me when I said that." Your hand covered your chest. "Does that make me the exception then?" In movies, there were rarely exceptions to the rules. They were plain and simple. In romance movies, the ugly chick never gets the hot guy. The exception is if she has a makeover that removes her glasses and straightens her hair. In horror movies, there can only be a final girl if she's a virgin. The exception in that scenario is if the movie has laid out basic rules just to show the audience they can break them.

In this case, however, he could make an exception to make an exception. "I'm not sure. It makes me the luckiest nerdiest loser ever I know that much." You leaned forward pressing a quick kiss against his lips. His eyes grew wide as you pulled away. "You're going to kill me aren't you?" He said breathlessly.

The bell on the desk rang grabbing Randy's attention. He walked over helping the customer with their tapes. "Do you want me to kill you?" You asked with a laugh not worried about the customer overhearing your conversation. "I would say I have so much to live for but your just about all I have so it's up to you." The guy at the desk rolled his eyes as he grabbed his things. "I think that's romantic." You walked away from the desk making Randy follow you.

"Are you being serious about liking me?" Unfortunately, Randy has been played before. Stood up just for others' entertainment. You two had been friends since you were kids and he didn't expect you to be that way. That being said the alternative made less sense. "I literally just kissed you." Randy thought about that for a second. "Can you do it again just so I can make sure?" It was a pathetic attempt at being smooth but Randy made it work. You cupped his face in your hands taking your time to kiss him. His eyes closed focusing on your lips.

"Randy!" His boss barked making the two of you jump. "Don't make me fire your ass again. I don't pay you to make out with customers." You smiled at the man earning a dirty look in return. "Y-yes Sir." He stuttered out in fear.

"We can talk about this later if you want?" Randy shook his head. "I get off at seven could I pick you up at eight?" Neither of you had discussed what movies you'd watch. "I don't have any new movies at my place." Usually when the two of you hung out you'd force each other to watch movies you both picked out. "I was thinking dinner." He said almost nervous. You could tell him a million times you liked him and he would never believe it fully. You were way out of his league.

The idea of a date made butterflies hit the walls of your stomach. "I'd like that but we're seeing the new Robin Williams movie afterward. You pay for tickets I'll pay for snacks." Normally he'd argue about your choice in movies but this time he was over the moon. The bell rang once again making Randy regretfully walk away. You followed him walking in front of the counter. "I'll see you at eight for our date." It was adorable seeing the way he lit up at the word "date."

"I'll see you then Y/n."

oh wow wow wow thank you so so much!! i'm really glad that you're enjoying my story so much! it really means a lot to me. <33 i think your english is good! but if you need/want me to clarify anything i say here, just let me know and i'll try to rephrase it for you!

okay, so in the Gotham tv show (this has spoilers for all 5 seasons, so read on if you're okay with that) the way that they approached writing the joker was actually really up in the air in the beginning. this is because they didn't have the rights to use the name "joker," and so fox (the company that made the show) planned on making a bunch of smaller characters in the show as a kind of easter egg as people who could be the joker or who resemble him in some way.

this changed when cameron monaghan (the actor for both jerome and jeremiah) guest starred in s1e16 "the blind fortune teller." in it, the character of jerome is introduced as a 17/18 year old boy who travels with the circus with his mother, who is a snake dancer. he is meant to be one of the aforementioned joker-like characters in the show and wasn't actually supposed to be included again after that episode, if i am not mistaken.

however, the viewers LOVED his performance and jerome came back in season two as a member of the maniax, a group of arkham inmates who were broken out of the asylum. i won't go too into detail about the actual plot, but in seasons two, three, and four, jerome shows up in at least a few different episodes with very memorable storylines each time.

it isn't until season four of the show that jeremiah is even revealed at all! jeremiah and jerome are identical twin brothers, however, jeremiah has been in hiding for years under the fake name "xander wilde" in an attempt to escape jerome, who wants to get revenge on him for lying to their mother about what he (jerome) did when they were children. basically, jeremiah lied to their mother (lila, who jerome is revealed to have killed in 1x16) that jerome tried to kill him, causing jeremiah to be sent away and be adopted by rich people and get to go to a well-funded private school where he could live out his best life as a child prodigy (which was jeremiah's end goal to this), whereas jerome was left behind in the circus that they lived at (haly's circus, the same one that dick grayson later was raised in before being adopted by bruce). during this time, jerome was horrifically abused by his mother, his uncle, and his mother's many romantic partners. this eventually caused him to crack, which creates the character we see in the show.

here's an easy way to remember the difference in their personalities:

in the standard american deck of cards, there are two jokers: one that is black and white and one that is in color. in this analogy, jeremiah is the black and white joker and jerome is the one in color.

this is jerome:

he's got a *very* boisterous personality. he's outgoing and charismatic and, of course, severely messed up in the head. he *enjoys* the pain he causes people and does it with little to no reservations. he thinks things through less thoroughly than jeremiah but jerome always has a plan and is actually quite smart. i couldn't do him the disservice of calling him the dumb twin, despite some points about jeremiah that i'll get back to later.

anyway, jerome has a grand plan for all of gotham: he believes that, fundamentally, everyone in the world is like him and is also at least a bit crazy inside. he wants everyone to tap into their inner selves and let themselves run free / go crazy. he successfully ensnares huge hoards of gothamites with his persuasive way of speaking and interesting flare to his words. he amasses a large cult following, all of whom are very similar to him in the sense that they all demonstrate similar signs of instability.

jerome kind of invented the iconic "HAHAHA" signature joker laugh in the gotham universe, even though he isn't the one who goes on to become "mr. j" (gotham's version of the joker) in the end (that's jeremiah, though i have a lot to say about that).

jerome's always smiling, a genuinely creepy smile that throws people off at first but can be really scary once you know what you're looking at. he single handedly turns gotham into a madhouse on multiple occasions and is the one who basically spread the "crazy" to the general population (for short: genpop).

he's a classic cult leader in the sense that he can mesmerize a whole room with his magnetic presence but also will ruthlessly cut down any of his followers if they so much as upset him (or even if they're just being annoying or could have a greater purpose, like when he stabbed a follower in the gut to take their blood to draw a frowney-face on bruce).

that reminds me, another important thing to know about jerome is that he has an iconic stapled-on face! this is because he died once (in season two, though he came back to life for season three onwards) and one of his followers tried to revive him using some insider medical knowledge from doctor hugo strange (who is just... a whole thing. ew.). he thinks that he failed at doing this and steals jerome's face so that he can wear it on television in an attempt to control jerome's followers (spoiler: this doesn't work).

however, it turns out that jerome *was* revived from this, and he's pretty upset that some dude stole his face! so he uses a staple gun to re-attach it after he gets it back (and kills the guy who did it). his face is later punched off by jim gordon but reattached more properly during his time at arkham afterward (the carnival scene happened in season 3 and jerome came back with a kind-of healed face in season 4).

jerome is the colorful joker because he's very much expressive. he lets out every single emotion he feels---unless he's trying to deceive someone, at which point he is a phenomenal liar. (in season 1 when we are first introduced to him, he almost successfully gets away with the murder of his own mother.)

jerome is funny and laughs a lot and is *loud.* he's also absolutely insane and incredibly cruel, as well as impulsive, but he's able to curb his instincts if he feels like he can pull off a big plan.

jerome is a showman by nature. he's a product of the circus and it *shows.* everything he does is like an act, something that is acknowledged by many people in the show.

he's a funky lil dude. totally crazy, but kind of adorable at times.

he's also SEVERELY traumatized from his horrible past and has huge trust issues.

so, yeah. jerome is colors! remember that.

unfortunately, pookie died in season 4 and doesn't seem to have been revived this time </3

now, onto his twin brother jeremiah!

jeremiah is, at least at first, presented to be the complete opposite of jerome. he's calm, collected, and seemingly sane---at least at first. bruce trusts him at first and he even befriends him for a period of time before jeremiah betrays him.

jeremiah is a genius engineer, and, when looking into his past, we can assume that he was a child prodigy. he worked with thomas wayne before he died and designed the wayne plaza building under the aforementioned alias "xander wilde." he also locked himself in an underground maze for ~6 years (i believe?) and never went outside, instead sending his proxy (ecco) out to act in his place during business transactions.

as seen here, jeremiah seems to be the complete opposite of showboat jerome:

when we first meet jeremiah, we are told that he is totally sane, but we can later see that this is not the complete truth.

i'll use jeremiah's project as a metaphor for this. jeremiah was building a set of generators which could make energy harvesting and usage much less expensive and much more bio-friendly (if i remember correctly). bruce promised to fund his project and jeremiah accepts his offer quickly.

after jerome dies in season 4 after kidnapping bruce and jeremiah, he left behind a concoction of chemicals that seemingly make jeremiah go insane. this is a play on joker toxin / joker venom from the greater dc universe.

however, after jeremiah reveals his new self

he says that the spray did not actually change who he actually is, but just gave him an altered appearance. there are a lot of fan theories about this, but the general consensus is that the spray likely lowered his inhibitions, which gave him the kick needed to reveal his true self.

even his complexion resembles the joker he corresponds with: black and white. he is the black and white joker because he isn't as expressive, is way more calculated, and is more cruel and less happy. even his skin is paper white.

that looks a lot more like the joker we know and love today, right? bleach-pale skin, red painted lips, green hair. he's instantly recognizable as the stereotypical joker now.

remember when i mentioned the generators? let's go back to them. the entire time that the generators have been around, they've also been perfectly functional as powerful bombs. their ability to be used as bombs does not undermine the fact that they can also be used as generators, and both of these things were true at the same time *for the entire time they have existed.*

it is in this way that jeremiah's paradoxical nature has always existed. jeremiah is crafty, cunning, and absolutely vicious. he has no care or concern for human life in general and will sacrifice most people in his life if it means that he will get what he wants in the end.

this is shown both before and after the joker toxin in how he lied about jerome when they were children (which caused jerome to be heavily abused) and in how jeremiah willingly killed one of his most devoted and beloved followers, who was being ransomed, just because someone put him on hold and it was personally easier for him to just kill him than sit on hold on the phone for a while. (he also has a vicious streak, though, because he immediately moved the demolition of the bombs up to immediately once he was out of the blast zone because those people inconvenienced him.)

something that's important to realize about jeremiah is that he has an issue with being called crazy. jerome does, too, but he eventually comes to accept the term, almost like he's reclaiming it, but jeremiah is *violently* against it. that's one of the things that set him off in the previously mentioned interaction.

both jeremiah and jerome are obsessed with bruce, though in different ways. jeremiah sees bruce first as his best friend and later as the "brother [he] could never have, that jerome could never be." jerome just sees bruce as a particularly entertaining and interesting kid who he enjoyed tormenting who he would eventually kill.

anyway, despite jeremiah being crazy (or, depending on who you ask, just less inhibited) he is still crazy smart and calculating. he thinks through everything before he does it and his master plans seem like they go on forever with 10000 parts to them and backups and contingencies galore.

the only time that jeremiah ever really seems to break out of this is when he's fighting with bruce. while he still does have a greater point to make or something he's trying to accomplish, he thinks through things less with him and shows his impulsive and rash side a bit more, which is interesting because jerome showed his thoughtful and contemplative side when faced with the obstacle that is bruce thomas wayne. i love parallels and contrasts, especially in these two characters! i just love writing about twins, they're always so interesting.

some important things about their relationship to one another:

even though jerome kidnapped jeremiah and seemingly strapped a bomb to his neck (after breaking into his house and telling him that he would kill him), jerome doesn't seem to actually want jeremiah to die. instead, as we later find out, he wants jeremiah to unleash his true self and carry on his legacy of chaos and cruelty in gotham for him after his death. this is why he left behind the laughing gas for him.

(the fact that jerome thought to do all of that shows that he really was a smart character and that he truly did understand the world around him well. he knew exactly what would happen in the event of his death, i.e. bruce offering to fund jeremiah's work and jeremiah accepting, as is shown when jerome has the joker venom in a present box which claims to be sent from wayne enterprises.)

jeremiah *hates* to be compared to jerome in any way, as he thinks of himself as "the face of true sanity." he actually has an entire notebook full of jerome's ideas, which he says he will outdo and perfect, thus defeating his brother in the end, which i don't know if i agree with, but whatever.

i think that it's because of the reputation that jerome got at the circus. jeremiah wanted people to think of him as better than jerome and as the perfect child, which he succeeded at. to him, jerome is synonymous with crazy, which i've already mentioned that he hates to be called.

okay, just one more part to talk about. the infamous, much anticipated Mr. J!!!

in the series finale, it is revealed that jeremiah, after falling into a vat of acid, is horribly disfigured and pretends to be in a vegetative state for the whole ten years that bruce is on his quest to improve himself before becoming batman. he does this as a way of waiting for bruce to come back to gotham so he can continue to be obsessed with him.

however, though this is jeremiah, it seems that he has actually gone through immense mental trauma sometime during this time (perhaps during his fall into a vat of chemicals), which has caused him to sort of lose his sense of self. he once says that there was "another me" [another him] once, which is, of course, referring to jerome. this implies that jeremiah sees jerome as an extension of himself, almost, and almost makes it seem as if mr. j is a whole different entity of his own.

sometimes I think about if the reader was there to witness the horror that was the shibuya incident both from a civilian perspective and someone who has incite on what actually happend.

knowing that gojo is locked up, what happened to maki, nobara, megumi and yuji but also knowing what happened to the regular people in shibuya. her favourite café is gone, the place where she first meet yuji is gone. her work place and closest coworker- who invited her to drink for Halloween- is dead.

sukuna's domain destroyed everything just a few blocks away. she would of been dead had she said yes to the invite. she's sobbing yuji style, fighting sukuna's gentle hold because "they backed him into a corner" and "there was nothing else I could do, please angel please believe me"

AND AAHHH I LIVE FOR UR SUKUNA ANGST- BOTH OF THEM WOULD SOB SO HARD. At like 2am I was listening to a playlist that had the song It's Over Isn't It from Steven Universe and I couldn't help but think a little bit about Yves. Idk if you see it but some of the lines in the song were giving me a bit of angsty Yves vibes. Like Yves not understanding why he "lost" to some random love interest like in that one Montgomery post.

Idk could be just me but I got a bit of Yves brain going on rn..

Well i mean, Yves was partially inspired by Pearl from Steven universe too, and it definitely comes with the angst fr theres some parallels between Greg and Monty; Yves FUCKING hates Montgomery's guts for stealing you away but he has no choice but to act like he actually "loves" him deep down, past Yves's monster-in-law exterior. Because Montgomery makes you happy and he knows if Yves were to express how he really feels, you would be devastated.

In his mind, the ultimate goal isn't to please himself, but to please you in life. He can't kill Montgomery or else you will feel hollow and unhappy. He cant give you an ultimatum, because even if you chose him, you would still yearn for Montgomery. Yves can't just bend reality this time, because somehow your attraction and love towards Montgomery is so strong, to break that bond is to break you too.

So he just smiles and digs his fingernails into his palm until it breaks the skin, only letting out the most blood-curling, ear-obliterating Yves-rage scream in the privacy of his home. Maybe even sticking some pins and needles into his heavily abused Montgomery voodoo doll, casting spells with obscure ingredients and ancient scripts since he would turn spiritual when facing things that he couldn't accept.

Under all that calm and collected mask is a hurricane of emotions; especially unimaginable anguish and anger. Desperately wishing that you would have preferred what Yves had. Desperately wishing you had chosen him instead.

But you nor Montgomery would know the depth of his hatred for the man who robbed Yves of his rightful position as your husband. You wouldn't know the excruciating pain he felt when you rejected him and went for someone he perceived as a lesser being. He hates him.

Yves hates, hates, hates Montgomery so much and he would torture him so gorily and cruelly, that even the devil would retch in disgust. Alas, you love that... Pathetic excuse of a man. He cannot do anything further than a couple of petty exchanges and stare at you longingly.

You wouldn't know just how much your best friend despised and loathed him, especially when he's so kind to Montgomery and claims to care about him too.

Perhaps you should listen to your husband when he says he's not at all comfortable being alone in a room with Yves. Maybe you should believe Montgomery when he says there is something very, very off about your beloved best friend.

Then again, Yves doesn't take his mask slipping off his true, ugly form lightly. Best to just pretend that nothing is happening and ignore the fact that his house increasingly smells like incense.

hi, im new here (not to dd just to the tumblr sphere— why does everyone seem to hate zdarsky/checchetto? i really enjoyed the first part of zdarkys run and i adore checchetto’s art + design, so idk what i missed that makes everyone who comicsposts dislike it so much??

hm. this isn't the easiest question to answer. there's a LOT of different reasons as to why people disliked that run.

tbh I'll admit the first 20 or so issues of v6 are kind of okay. not impossible to read. it goes downhill fast after that, tho. very very downhill.

here's this post by @/xycuro-illuminati that does a good job of explaining why so many people disliked the run. here's my post on the ableism in zdarsky's writing. trust me you aren't the first person who's asked this question before

i'll give you a more general answer of my own opinion, tho

zdarsky's writing misses what most consider to be crucial points of Matt and Elektra's characters. with this, he entirely obliterates their characterization and that really pissed a lot of comics fans off.

i would consider volume 6 to be the beginning of the MCU-ification of dd. it is clear that at that point, some higher-ups were pushing for daredevil comics to become more like the show. the show was a MASSIVE hit and they wanted to cash in on that. so, they had the writers start shifting the comics and the characterization around to fit the show better.

this is where the problem lies. it is insulting, honestly, to ignore the past 50 plus years of writing for matt's character to shift it into something that will be more palatable to live actions fans just so marvel can get a good payday.

the most glaringly noticeable part of this is - the catholicism. the live action show makes a big deal out of matt being catholic when this was never really the case in the comics. while matt being religious and catholic are present in matt's background in the comics, it's not even close to being a big part of the character.

one of the main things that makes matt so compelling as a character is his morality, his integrity. he upholds his moral code relentlessly because he believes it is the right thing to do. he believes everyone deserves a second chance no matter what. in zdarsky's run and in the show, matt's reason for upholding his moral code is tied to his religious beliefs.

here's a good post on the origins of catholicism being related to matt's character and how it differs from the show and why it is such an injustice to tie matt's morality to his religion.

it's really really hard to articulate every single thing that's wrong with zdarsky's run while also giving you a thorough explanation.

i could tell you about how zdarsky's original plot was focused around matt's guilt when he accidentally kills someone but... matt's killed people before. he killed someone in his very first issue. ever. he was chasing after the man who was responsible for his father's murder and scared him so badly the man had a heart attack and died.

all of zdarsky's plots and subplots are all things that have been done over and over, he just writes it worse.

i could tell you about how shitty checchetto's art is. he can't draw women. or fat people (foggy fans deserve reparations). toward the end of the run he gets ESPECIALLY sloppy. he whitewashed kirsten and sam.

i could tell you about how zdarsky wrecked elektra's character. he completely ignored her origins and the character development she's had over the course of decades of writing just to slap some random retconned backstory onto her.

theres so. many. things.

i got into the comics through the show. when I started reading the comics I honestly perceived comics matt and show matt as two entirely different characters because they just felt so incredibly separate from one another. it is not that there are zero similarities, but their reasons for WHY they are the way that they are diverge wildly from each other

i dont know how else to put it except to say this. when I read zdarsky's run, I do not feel like I'm reading about Matt Murdock. it doesn't feel like matt, it doesn't feel like daredevil. it feels like an entirely new character that I do not know.

to fully explain to you why i feel that way would take a damn book. i realize that my answer isn't at all comprehensive and some parts are probably confusing but it is impossible to pick a start and end point. that's just not matt. that's it.

A blanket of paranoia has descended upon Vesuvia. It starts out as nothing but rumor, joke. Very plainly no one gives a damn.

But Asra sees past the half baked jokes, the laughter, the ignorance. He knows that something is brewing on the horizon. Vesuvia is about to change, immensely so. He tries not to let it get to him, yet. But he keeps an eye out.

Anything that's close to a sign, a hint. He gets it, in the form of sharp smiles and red eyes. Foreigners in Vesuvia have never been odd. The city is a melting pot, but this small batch of visitors gives him the creeps.

They lack what he believes to be humanity. There's something so inhuman about the way they just- well, exist. Smiles the crack open like ice. Theyre imposing, taller than most of the population, sporting the same purple robes so dark they would be mistaken for black without direct sunlight. Gold pendants and chains hanging off their necks. Their hands almost crooked, nails curved a little too much like an animal.

Everyone calls him crazy. And in full honesty he starts to believe it, but the way Faust curls in on herself whenever one is near only confirms his suspicions.

Word on the street is they're guests of the count, and that makes his skin crawl. Why are they patrolling the city day in and day out?

He tries telling you as much, “i don't trust them…” he grumbles, elbow deep in laundry.

You only huff at him, “you don't even know them and you're making baseless assumptions.”

He only squints, lips turning to a frown, “if you tell me you don't feel the same weird aura from them you are a liar.”

“You just don't like what you can't understand.”

They suppose you're right. But still.

They want to hurl the moment you waltz into the shop, bright eyed and telling him all about the new friend you made. One of them.

Frankly you think they're being rather prejudiced and unkind, but he only shakes his head.

“I'm telling you I have a bad feeling about these guys.”

You wave him off and he suddenly feels nauseous. Something very bad is going to happen. And he's right.

His first encounter is short and sweet, out to buy ingredients for dinner when he runs into one. Literally. Face first after they lose their balance on an old tile, loose and wobbly.

Asra goes face first into his side, and he catches them, a little too quickly, nails digging into the flesh of his arm.

“I'm sorry i didn't-” he's cut off by a smile as the man turns to him. A little too wide, one too many teeth. Sharp teeth. He yanks it back to his side in a hurry. Glaring at what's attached to the rest of the hand.

“Oh don't worry. Are you alright ? You look a little pale.” his eyelids droop so low Asra can't tell if they're even open anymore.

“No, I'm fine, thank you.”

It doesn't take all that long for stranger occurrences to follow, all around Vesuvia. Things going missing, people forgetting where they are, why they're there. It's like a fog has descended on them all, clouding their mind.

When the first disappearances trickle in, Asra knows immediately they have something to do with it.

Everyone flocks to the shop for protections, charms, spells and readings. Anything to keep them safe. They cling to him for reassurance but he can not give what he isn't certain of.

Asra advises them all to stay off the streets and keep the wandering close no none. They listen to him, all but you. You just have to do as you please.

You think you're some sort of martyr, able to save those who have been missing for weeks now, and the minds of those who stay.

When people start coming back is when panic truly begins to set. They come back but they aren't the same are they. They all sport the same red eyes. It's enough for Asra. he needs to leave. He feels suffocated. Theres always red eyes on him, no amount of magic can change that.

When the attacks start he does he begin packing his things. The people have all gone mad. Succumb to insanity and desire. They're become carnal beasts, eyes red and w hunger that is inhuman as they are. They thirst for blood, either dead or alive. Each night they ravage the city, and each morning they are forced to pick the pieces up again.

He needs to leave.

It had been a kinda bad start of the month with a lot of bad news both in my work and in my family, and 'm honestly trying to keep myself together drawing the critters 'cause on the other hand i would probably break down.

For ''little'' things like one of my cats been dumb enough to try to eat a bee so now she have a inflamate mouth that prevent her to eat normally so i need to be over her giving her food like a baby (and she's a mean bitch so is more hard), from big worry things like medical shit related to me, my mother and my grandma (yay for chronic family diseases), to the death of my paternal grandfather. I hadn't been able to catch a break since december, and the rest of my family aren't exactly helping, so the only thing i can do is take it like a champ and keep going, i had been having said mentality since my 15, and now in my 25 i already sound like a old lady due all the shit i had to take responsability for, i feel like a war soldier with PTSD and everything.

One of the things that is eating me up is the posibility of getting my internet shut down again 'cause, while i paid for my part of the month, my family ''forgot'' their part, and is already 5th so theres a BIG probability that tomorrow 'm not going to be here, they told me they're going to try and find their part before paycheck, but idk if that a ''we're paying it before it get shut down'' or a ''we're paying in the next 10 days'', so yeah, if i suddendly don't post anything tomorrow, you know why.

You would thing ''why don't you move out?'' ''why don't live on your own and deal with your own problems?''. Well, here's the thing: In this country, the salary is around 5$/week, 'course that the official one, but since bussiness know nobody is going to work for that little, they include a food stamp of around 50/80$ with the paycheck, so in a way you're getting pay 100$/month.

But this mean that you still only have 20$/month to spend elsewhere, and shit like clothes, basic neccesities, healthcare and more aren't cheap. You need to calculate right, 'cause you risk to miss something important and not been able to get it till next paycheck (for big example, female products that suck my souls each month). and you know how much it cost the internet? around 40$/month, so a two people full salary, aka i wouldn't be able to pay for the internet on my own.

So even when a good house have a cost of 5.000$ here (a lot of house are abandoned due the big number of people emigrating from here, so house are really cheap), if you only get 240$/year, the only way you can live alone is if you have a familiar that is sending you money from another country to help you get it, or if you got the house from a familiar that passed away.

Yeah, a lot of my problems at the moment come from financial problems, but the house situation isn't one, i wouldn't care still living here is i could deal with the other problems, my life as been stressful since the man that speak with birds got in charge of the country, but i could deal with it before, it right now that 'm eating my nails at all the shit going on.

I really appreciate all the support and love you all had give me here, i had take the critters (both the cartoon and the experiments) as a safe place in this stressful times, so the fact that other people enjoy them with me as really help me keep going. Don't worry, if i dissapear isn't going to be forever, just like the fucking springtrap ''i always come back''. You're not going to get away from me this easily.
