How do u pick your colors?? I'm always in awe of how pretty they are
this is so sweet. i really like getting comments about my coloring bc i do feel like i have a fairly good sense of color, but its also frustrating bc i really dont know how to explain it
Tumblr media
heres a small demonstration abt my instinctual color choices; left is twilights actual colors, right is me coloring her from memory (trying to stay as faithful as possible to her actual colors as i could lol) and disclaimer i LIKE twilights actual colors. theres no right or wrong way to color. this is just how i do it
i think the first and most obvious thing i notice is that my version is more saturated than the original, and thats easy to replicate, just stay closer to the highly saturated colors in a palette. i think if i was to color with lower saturation though, it would be All less saturated colors, and not mostly saturated with a pop of hot pink yknow?
the second thing i notice is that my palette is much more monochromatic than the original (idk if thats the right word— basically i generally choose colors close to each other on the color wheel). her mane base is indigo rather than navy blue, and her highlights are a cooler purplish pink. also generally for me, lighter colors are warmer and darker colors are cooler. this is also shown in my shadows in highlights; the original uses darker or lighter shades of the same hue for its shadows and highlights, but i make the shadows bluer and the highlights yellower. thats basic color theory stuff though i think
finally i try to keep a good amount of contrast between all the colors, which i think comes from me making a lot of lineless art. the blue and purple in twilights hair are a little hard to distinguish when you take the lines away. idk what the technique for this is, i guess maybe just turn off your linework layer to see how your contrast is or smthn
so yeah! as always i dont really know what im talking about. everything here is just trial and error through drawing a LOT of ponies lol

Hey, I adore your artstyle mate, I loveeee all the vivid colors and the fact that most of it lacks lines?? You doing the hard stuff, but it paying off 💜
can I ask, as I’d like to get into comic making, how long does it take you to finish a a single panel?
Hi!! thank you very much!! drawing lineart is incredibly frustrating to me so im very glad i was able to make the jump to mostly lineless artwork, tho im very much still at the beginning to learn how to do it xD
to answer your question, i .. cant say really, it depends on what is on the panel, and i always jump around when working on a page, i draw half of the very last panel, then jump to another, maybe i see something i want to change right away and work on the third besides i ... dont know anything about panel composition, i think in movies so i play it and try to pause it on a frame that could work as a panel, whichs is probably why it goes alot slower than normal comics, idk how much to skip gndfjknvgfdjk
im by no means an expert in making comics, you kinda have to find your own way of what works for you, i have done many in the past but all failed, i gave up before getting even one chapter done many times
general advice i can give you is, most importantly, dont wait, i know its daunting to start, but you have to start, even if you dont think you are good enough, you will always change and improve anyway, better start now or you might do it never, and remember, when a page is done its done, i know how tempting it is to go back and redo it, but if you start with that it will only lead to an endless cycle of remaking it over and over
a cause that made me abandon my old projects, was partly lack of support/recognition, but mostly that i was forcing myself to things that werent fun, like one i made in black and white bc i thought you had to do it bc color takes too long, but i live for colors, so it drained the fun out of it immediately
the only "rules" i have set for myself is that its understandable, the flow of the action doesnt flip around too much, speech bubbles are aligned in a way that guides you (of course im not perfect at that either and always learn); i dont jump between pages, i jump between working on panels, but i dont start another page before the previous is at least acceptable, otherwise id get ahead of myself and get impatient, just wanting to skip ahead and neglect older pages; and that i only work on a panel/page as long as it has acceptable quality and is fun to draw, when i notice im getting bored or frustrated i finish it quickly as best as i can and move on, otherwise it might drag the entire project down, which is why each panel or page in 'Destiny' varies alot in quality
i can barely look at the first pages .. or even at the last one i made for that matter, but its also fascinating, how much my art changes within even one update which takes me about a month for 4 pages, since i have set my 'fun' rules at least, it used to take much longer (i wish i was faster, and i could be, but i have a job, and have to look out for my health, both physically and mentally, so i take whatever time i need and draw however much i feel like drawing, no rushing)
my progress so far is that i write a rough script, what happens, what dialog, where it ends, and so on, it doesnt have to sound good, god knows mine are shitty xD but its a good guideline, even if rough! then i make a rough draft, basic panel layout, dialog (it always changes fro mthe script, again its more liek a guideline than a rule ;) ) then i start with actually drawing the first page, my art and way of .. art and writing changes incredibly fast (idk if its for the better lol) so .. by that point i redraw the rough draft version of the page if i see how it works better, rewrite dialog too, and even cut stuff from the rough draft
im not done with the first chapter (im slow af lol), but wrote the script for the second one when my hand was injured and i couldnt draw for a month, once im done with this chapter i will draw the rough draft for ch2, then write the script for ch3 then go and draw ch2 fully, at least thats the plan the more time passes the more i know what the next chapters are gonna be, tho i know the important points long before; right now i have the entirety of the first arc sepeareted into chapters, and the end of it all too, but between there its still a lil blurry and im adjusting everytime i think of soemthing better
anyway, sorry for that long ass ramble, its late and i thoguht about this ask bc im trying to get my want to draw back (not feeling well rn nkfdnkd) so i randomly decided to answer it .. probably in the most unhelpful way possible, alot of stuff noone aksed for lol
anyway, sorry, and goodnight uwu

I'd like to know if you could share some of your favorite art that you drew? since you have fantastic drawings 😊
you're very sweet, thank you! favorite pieces Of All Time would be too hard to pick i think so i'll share some of my (somewhat recent) favorite pieces ive done.
(DISCLAIMER: apparently there's quite a few i wanted to share so. sorry about the fact that there's 14 down below. lol)
Tumblr media
^one of my first attempts with my new toned sketch style. and the first thing i drew this year! getting expressions/posing just the way i imagined is always a rare treat for me LOL so im also really happy with that still
Tumblr media
^probably my favorite ive done with one of my Other new styles (semi-lineless painting) (along with the first i did with my favorite oc lol) kind of funny to have this as one of my favorites. like of course one of these answers would be pinocchio. but i really like this style because i try not to use any effects like glow or multiply. all the shading, highlights, and stuff like that here is just regular paint
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^more disney... sigh. well these ones are sentimental because i love these guys and drew the first one on my bday which was also when this parade debuted at disneyland again. ive been called insane to have done that one entirely in one day but honestly that just makes me happy because i think ive really developed a good process for sketches like this to make them look nice AND to enjoy making them. the other was made after the last show of said parade and it was just fun to draw a bunch of characters interacting while trying to keep them in character
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^too embarrassed to say what this is other than it's insane oc/canon art BUT i really love this new toned sketch style i do as i said above. and the left one came out nice i think! particularly fond of the wings and facial expressions! and the second one... well i really think it's just one of the best ive done of this character. his hair and proportions on his features just came out so well... ok im gay moving on
Tumblr media
^dont even remember if this was this year or not but let's pretend it is. this one is self-explanatory i think. BIG lineup (for me anyway) and it's of the party from my first ever dnd campaign! very special
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^these ones look simple but they both show things that became SO much more. the first one... it's a catalyst. the start of making what was originally just a COMPLETE joke character into one of my favorite ocs. a treasure. isnt he cute :3c and then the second one is my character i made for a custom ttrpg which ended up being one of the best EVER!!!!!!!! augh. a brilliant campaign made by my very talented friend that ive shared a bit of here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^idk this is just a cool prompt im proud of. "draw your ocs in fairytales/folktales" and i went mad (i love fairytales/folktales) and just did a bunch of them. in my painting style. can u guess which story is which (little hooded cloak man has the most niche one)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^pinocchio madness has done a few positive things for me. one, this oc my friend and i made for pinocchio is so precious, i really love their relationship and they bring me so much joy. but ive also developed my skills with expressiveness by studying and drawing disney's pinocchio. these are good examples of posing and expressions im really happy with (can u tell im really focused on expressions LOL). also pinocchio helped me get back to animation work??? wild
Tumblr media
^i am pretty much always happy with how my "screenshot" styled pieces turn out, but this is the most recent one! glad to share this one too since it is literally fanart of the efteling which is that themepark im not normal about
OK IM STOPPING NOW. THANK U

Just curious, what do you learn in college?? Since I see you mention you're in an art school. I want to go there when I finish high school so any advice?? I love your art and I just want to be as good as you in the future as well ✨️
Hi hi! Yes I do and I am suffering every second of it 🥰
Just kidding! I love doing what I do in school, I get to learn tons of new stuff and step out of my comfort zone! I am currently taking Visual Communication since I'm aiming to work in ad agencies (or just an in-house designer for any companies) in the future!
Here's the thing though, art school doesn't actually teach you to draw from scratch. You have to know the fundamentals like how to draw and basic design knowledge if you want to have an okay time in school because most classes I had they expect us to have a basic knowledge on certain mediums and software. I struggled in my first semester because idk how to use Adobe Illustrator (which is actually so funny to me since most of my artwork are lineless and looked vector) and I cried because I cant figure out how to use the fuckin pen tool. I am okay with using AI now though after being forced to use it for 2 years but I still prefer PS and InDesign over any other day. I admit that I have an easier time at school as oppose to my classmates because while they entered art school right after graduating high school (public schools here deemed art to be unimportant and it's common that the timeslot for art class is used as replacement class for other subject so students graduating from public school almost learn art through self studies), I came from an art vocational school and also went to a private uni for graphic design briefly so I have a bit of prior experience unlike my classmates just started tinkering into digital media in art school.
Experience may vary from countries and schools but from what I can gather and generalize from my experience being in art school for 2 years, if you can afford being in an art school, can afford to pour your time in school, passionate about your craft and want to pursue working in the creative industry, please totally go for it! You don't only learn how to draw but also learn how to organises your work and prep your work for professional settings! For example idk shit about printing and packaging before going to school and it sounded like a minor thing here sure but there's much more logic and black magic fuckery that goes behind the scene to make a single magazine (look up reader vs printer spread!). I get to learn tons a cool stuff about mass production and making designs for those purposes. You don't get to know those things through self-learning. Art school has taught me a lot on how to design for others to see and perceive and not just for me and I just think this is neat for me especially when I always want to make cool ads for people.
Hopefully this doesn't sound too complicated and deter you from being in art school (especially when all i do these days is moaning about wanting school to be over. Im just burnt out tbh lol but i swear i love what im doing in school lol). I hope you get to make a good choice for yourself and whatever you pursue in the future will be good for you💕💕💕

Ur drawings are so good they're basically digital chicken nuggets. Do you have any tips?
omg i feel so Not Qualified to answer an ask like this LMAO.. i will try my best and make a laundry list of various thoughts: (putting it under a cut cus its longish)
(this has mostly nothing to do with making fanart but more like art in general)
i think most people feel most pressure about their art style especially, i used to be like that until i realised that im not supposed to fight with myself and instead just grow with it. its fluid and youre always going to be absorbing new things and changing slowly. for me that realisation was like a wall i broke lol once i stopped getting frustrated about it and started Rolling with it my process got a lot smoother and fun.
technical skills go hand in hand with style (even though im the worst person to ask) (person who cant bring myself to go Learn things properly) it feels like a lot of riff raff but training your hands and eyes af. idk u have to find the fun in it somehow
look at lots of different stuff!! even if its art you dont like!! make like a sponge and absorb it. i dont think there is any harm studying others work as long as you dont claim it as your own, post it online without permission etc.
very important! get comfortable making stuff you dont like +++ when you come back and look at it youll always find new ways to rework it in a better way. get a cheap sketchbook with bad paper and draw only in pen idk mess around dont be scared!
also just. trying new stuff!! new program new tool new method etc etc etc. use markers use only the fill tool use only one brush use only one layer make lineless art. personally i like forcing myself to use brushes i didnt like at first cus then i have to find ways to get around what i dislike and sometimes it manifests in something i wasnt expecting.
recently ive been using pureref to collect references, art that i like and stuff. its like pinterest but better + u can make notes to take note of artists and stuff + its just nice to see everything on one big board all at once. sometimes im like really lost and then i just go and stare at it a while and then i remember what kinda art i want to make.
beyond style and stuff if its about getting engagement online idk if im the best person to ask, some people are really good at playing the algorithm and i kinda cant be bothered with that. really the most important thing is that you create from the heart (whether its fanart or your own art) and people who resonate with it will find you.
also this is my fav i cant believe i dont really see people say this but on god go and make stuff with your friends!! i have a group of friends and we just make art together and push each other and it makes creating things like 70x more exciting and fun. draw in each others sketchbooks, make works together, fig draw etc etc. going back to that point about doing things even if u dont like them i guarantee if u do things with friends it becomes fun. plus its so wonderful to see other people grow with you!!!
also because i can i am going to plug my friends right now:
https://twitter.com/tinyvermin_
https://www.instagram.com/catf1shmenace/
https://www.instagram.com/egretrites/
they are very cool go and follow them right now
thats all i could think of for now, maybe ill come back and add some things later. this is just my brain spitting out whatever
