I’m really liking this format lately, and it’s (fairly) quick and easy so you can expect more of these in the future while I procrastinate all the girlfriendverse chapters and smut I have to write lol

First, the more studious of the bunch:

Brennan is all-in, no hesitation, pulling up a chair next to you and learning this with you for moral support, but also for fun (can you believe this guy?) though you suppose it’s easier to enjoy this if it doesn’t count for a grade. Either way, he’s a very nice study partner, and he encourages you to take breaks every hour / chapter / etc. Brings snacks, too.

Violet somehow already knows all of the material, and explains it better than the textbook or the professor. Walks things back if you don’t get it and gets into the why and how, which so many teachers skip over, even though it helps explain the what (pet peeve of mine showing here lol). 

Aaric’s study skills are unmatched -- years of the best private tutors money can buy really paid off. Teaches you new strategies that you’ve never heard of in your life, and when you ask, he admits a bit shyly that he came up with it himself, but it works, and you get it done in half the time you would have before. (work smarter, not harder, baby)

Rhiannon gives you the pep talk of your life (we all need a Rhiannon in our lives) and convinces you that you’ve got this. Packs you a little snack for the day of your exam with a little note reminding you that you know this, just breathe and think. 

Xaden sees you struggling and forces you to take a break. During said break, he’s reading the book himself and figuring out what exactly has you so stressed and exhausted. Breaks down the tasks into smaller, more manageable steps and guides you through it -- “find three reasons why XYZ happened.” done with that? “Now make them into paragraphs.” etc etc, and an hour later, you have a passable essay. 

Dain is taking this more seriously than you are, and his discipline is like no other; you’re not stopping until the work is done, or until midnight, whichever comes first (because sleep is important for the brain, or whatever. Definitely not just because he misses you and wants to cuddle). 

Garrick may have no idea what you’re talking about, but he suffers through it with you, offering to let you explain things to him, because teaching is a good way to test if you understand something. Though you get what you pay for -- he’s a total smartass about it, asking questions about the littlest details even if they’re common knowledge -- he’s gotta be thorough, right? 

Ridoc may be the class clown type, but he’s smarter than a lot of people think. He comes up with a bunch of jokes that actually help you remember things. Somehow manages to relate the most complex topic in your book to a sandwich, and it actually works. He’s incredibly smug about this for the rest of the week, especially when you get the highest score in the class (he’ll take payment in kisses, thank you.)

Bodhi makes flashcards with you, quizzing you and giving you a kiss if you get it right (this definitely is not a distraction, and things definitely don’t escalate from here, nope.) He’s also really good at proofreading essays, and gives excellent feedback regarding the structure and the order of the information.

Liam sits there with you all the while, completely silent, working on one of his wood carvings at the other end of the table, but you know he’s there and he’s watching -- and that provides a healthy amount of peer pressure and keeps you on task. He’s an incredibly observant person, and he can see the stress building; he knows when to intervene and suggest that you take a break.

Sloane is the best person to commiserate with. She doesn’t want to be doing this either, but she’s also incredibly stubborn, and she doesn’t give up; after a healthy amount of complaining, she’s forcing you both to keep trying until it works / until it’s done, and then you’re treating yourselves to something for getting it over with, because you deserve it.

Sawyer is gentle and supportive, having a heart-to-heart conversation with you and reminding you that yes, this is important, but the world will not stop turning if you fail one exam. He knows how it feels to be compared to his peers, especially in how long it takes you to accomplish something (poor bb) and doesn’t want you stressing yourself out about that, either. 

Imogen is the opposite, all tough love, giving you gentle but firm reminders: “you didn’t make it this far just to give up,”, “I know you can do this, so do it,” but she balances it out with tender affirmation when you’re done. She’ll even let you skip out on training for the day since you’ve been studying so hard (and she takes training seriously, so this is more of a reward than it seems). 

Mira’s default approach is similar to Imogen’s, but she can see that you’re reaching your limit and dials it back, being more gentle with you and doing whatever you need -- encouragement? someone to just sit there? help / explanation / etc? she’s got you covered. herds you into bed at a reasonable hour so you’ll be well rested for the classes and exams.

And all of them are incredibly proud of you for working so hard and getting good grades 🤍

the whole Kalina/Cassandra/Kristen scene is so nerve wrecking and interesting and once again I can talk so much about this topic and I know I have critized Kristen's approach but that's bc honestly I do have issue w it despite understanding it but it does make for an interesting arc and with this conversation it does seem like she believes in this domain of faith on the unknown. I will at some point talk more about from the point of someone who also left a culty religious thing but was still expected to perform similarly once out of it but my thoughts are still not the most organized

listen i don't do character builds but it does not sound to me like artificer and barbarian are THAT ill fitted, like yes the require different focus levels and types but they are also USED in different moments, nothing is stopping Gorgug from using his down time to come up with gadgets that work WITH his strenght and dex and rage and then use reckless abandon in battles. I think even th solar lasso is very much an example of that because it uses his strenghts, he's realing it in with atheltics checks iirc or how his shoes have jump like yes absolutely a challenge and not the most obvious but people are acting like it's impossible when it absolutely isn't

Hi, this is my first post on my blog. this is just for fun, please disregard anything that doesn't apply to you.

Scorpio suns will make you feel like the center of their world... until they feel betrayed by you and then, you literally don't exist anymore. Hot and cold.

I do feel like Capricorns really like each other, but they would benefit a whole lot by hanging out with more flexible signs like air signs or more emotional ones like water signs. Just my opinion.

Aries are cry babies, it's true, but they're one of the strongest sign out there. They don't have The Warrior archetype for no reason.

Talking about Aries, I also don't like how in Instagram and meme culture, they're always portrayed as fighting, aggressive or loud. Most Aries I know are so chill. They are really picky on where they let their energy out. Aries sun, mostly.

I feel like there's two types of Virgos and this is not talked about enough. There's the always stressed, perfectionist, really organized Virgo and then the procrastinator, goofy, "i don't care but i actually rly do" type of Virgo.

Talking about two types, there's also two types of Geminis: the social butterfly, outgoing, can't stop talking Gemini and then the over-thinker, chill, low key Gemini. I feel like Geminis can also have phases where for months they're like the first one then they're like the second one. Probably why they get typed as "two-faced", also.

Sagittarius are not the life of the party, for the most part. I really believe that they are the most introverted, chill and low key sign of the fire signs. They do love aventures and spontaneous things, but at a party, I'm picturing them talking with a few people on the balcony about the next spot they wanna visit.

Aquarius placements are all about helping humanity, but won't let anyone truly get to know them. Huh.

Cancers placements are really misunderstood. They're seen as weak, cry babies, manipulative, too emotional. Water signs in general are underestimated, but Cancer, man? Oof.

You can never know Pisces' next move. It's just impossible. Ruled by Jupiter ( Traditional) or Neptune (modern), everything they do next is hidden in a thick fog. Sometimes, I wonder if even for them it's unclear. Huh. Guess I'll never know huh.

(Alright, going to stop procrastinating and finally make this post.) After playing through the new trilogy in French to see what was different, here are some things about the French localisation of Spirit of Justice I thought you should know:

First of all, I usually like the French and English versions of the games equally. This marks the first time I've actually enjoyed the French version... more than the English one?? Especially Turnabout Revolution? Don't get me wrong, I already loved it in English, but I think the next time I replay it I'll actively choose French. Idk man it just hits different when a bunch of French people are talking about revolution and overthrowing the tyrannical regime etc

Oh yes, speaking of which, yes, the "Japanifornia" parts of the game take place in Paris, France, as usual. No, I have no idea how Kurain village can be next to the mountains and also the sea while also being in the vicinity of Paris. I also don't know why the entire population of a small country in the Himalayas are fluent in French and use it on a daily basis. But seriously, the main characters mention SO OFTEN that they're French and from France, like, all the fricking time. Remember the incredibly Japanese rakugo case? Imagine that taking place in France.

The Khura'inese pun names are hysterical in French. An example that English speakers can get too: the first culprit's name in French is Sterh'uey Tu'heiven. I'm not making this up. That's his name.

RAYFA'S FRENCH VOICE ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE A TEENAGER INSTEAD OF A 30 YEAR OLD, THANK THE HOLY MOTHER

Athena has now added German and Italian to her random English and Spanish phrases from the prev game. I mean... it made sense before, since she was meant to have lived in the USA in this version, but now I guess she just does it for fun? Who knows

Inga's full name is "Inga Karkhuul Kel Nomh Bowkhou Tro'lon Pohm'peu Eh'Duhr Apronh Ons'ai Khura'in III" ("quel nom beaucoup trop long, pompeux et dur à prononcer")

Nahyuta's nickname in French is just "Yuta"

Ema and Apollo now use informal pronouns for each other, so do Ema and Trucy now, Maya starts using informal pronouns for Apollo from almost the first moment she meets him (though he uses formal pronouns for her lmao), and yes Dhurke and Apollo use informal pronouns with each other the whole time, even when things are awkward at the start. Rayfa and her mother always use formal pronouns for each other, which is a little depressing.

AS FOR NAHYUTA AND APOLLO... HOHOHO. Obviously they're both using "vous" (formal) in court, but in the scene afterwards Apollo switches to "tu" (informal) when he asks Nahyuta if he remembers him. Later in Turnabout Revolution, Apollo has gone back to vous but he's at least saying "Nahyuta" rather than "Prosecutor Sahdmadhi" or whatever (I think that happened in the English version too). Then during the final trial, after that one insanely angsty scene, Apollo starts using tu again and even (internally) uses the nickname Yuta once! Nahyuta eventually starts referring to him as Apollo and starts using tu after finally openly acknowledging Apollo as his family aaauuuuuugh ;o;

(Listen Apollo usually always tries to be formal and professional in court so this is a big deal!!! It's a big deal to me at least!!!!!!!!!)

In the English version there were a few times our good ol' American Apollo had a sort of "haha I'm just a foreigner I don't know anything here" vibe which... no you're not lol. The French version didn't have that (or at least toned it down a lot) and made him feel less like a tourist and more like an immigrant returning to his old home country with complex feelings, which he is. It makes it more personal that he's the one to bring about the revolution imo -- he's not some random foreigner swooping in to save the day, this is his home and his family, he belongs here. (As an immigrant myself I find aspects of him relatable and will defend his Khura'inese backstory to the death DON'T TEST ME)

I chose the OP option (because I can't decide which stats I wanna focus on 😭) and I developed a little head canon to explain why my character is good at everything. In his former life he was less than OP. He was one of those people who have potential, but never applied himself, out of a mixture of laziness, procrastination, and a crippling fear of failure! When he died he was extremely disappointed in himself. He always figured that he'd pull himself together in the future, but now he's dead and he never achieved anything he wanted, other than gathering some useless facts (like maybe ancient technology such as the treadwheel crane perhaps 👀). When he got his second chance he decided he was gonna make full use of it. The instant he was able to comprehend the language of the world and was able to read, he'd sneak books and accelerate his education through reading things someone as young as him shouldn't understand. He also would go through physical training, again in secret, and watch the guards train in swordsmanship in hopes of picking something up. Since for years he had little to no responsibilities, and the mind of an adult, he has been able to devote almost all his time to developing his mind and body

TL;DR: my MC went from a procrastinator to a try hard and it payed off

Its really interesting to think about how you'd really act in a similar situation to the MC as you yourself.

The MC is canon to be "good" from the start, and its up to the player to choose how the MC progresses over time...honestly the best reincarnation works ive seen out there arent the traditional Isekai protag animes, its actually works that deal with a woman being reincarnated or isekai'd. Either a reincarnated villainess trope, or general isekai trope work, the ones with female leads are generally better in my opinion since it usually aint a power fantasy

The MC is a reincarnated chick who plays as the evil stepmother in cinderella's story, but omfg its such a good twist on the trope and it really does alot of things well, and THERES SO MANY NEW CHAPTERSSSSSS

Anyways, this is another great subversion of the reincarnating trope since the MC is on her THIRD reincarnated life, and she actually conquered EVERYTHING in her second life. But she got betrayed and killed by people and she said mannnnnn fuck this, ima get hitched with the dude who was nice to me in my old life and never asked for shit! And so begins a funny as romance story lol, GOD DAMN AND THEYRE ON THE SECOND SEASON NOOOOOOW

Someone either here or on Discord recommended this to me, and whoever did so, I love you! This is a weirdly realistic take on the historical figures of the Sengoku period having to deal with this weird girl who appears to have come out of nowhere but knows a bit of practical modern knowledge that helps Oda Nobunaga win some victories. Honestly, i really appreciate how grounded it is for a manga! The truth of the matter is, we really wouldnt be able to do that much if we were in her shoes either lol!

Bruhhhh when i tell you i squealed when i saw how many chapters this has now! Without a doubt, this is my favorite! The MC is hyper competent, she uses her femineity to her advantage and doesnt fight against it like other works do when they wanna show their female lead "isnt like other girls", and shes honestly such a joy to watch running circles around other people that screwed her over in her past life. Read this one for sure!!!!

Another competent female lead how got reincarnated and has to survive death flags by marrying one of the romance options, but the world system keeps screwing her over and its funny to see how she has to navigate trying to romance obviously shitty romance options who sound really hot (like the enemies to lovers trope would NOT be easy in real life lmao) or (the crazy mfer who makes you scared but horni)

Read this and then decide if you'd survive lol

AHGHGHGHHHH This is so good!!! Basically a girl has to become the stepmother to children how are close in age to her. She tries to do things her own way at first, but she dies. So she gets reincarnated and tries to do better the second time around. If you wanna read a good female lead doing introspection and learning from her past mistakes, read this. Its really good!

Alrighty. This is honestly a guilty pleasure, and should really be read after reading alot of villainess or female lead reincarnation manga to basically cleanse your palate with this funny ass story lol. Instead of playing by the rules of society like the previous stories, the main character does "not like other girls" very well and its enjoyable to watch lol! Use it once you get tired of the previously mentioned ones!

i know i mentioned that i was going to post my current and past resources list but i didn’t find the time to do that with my recent travels, however i already started typing it up so it should be posted in the next upcoming days!

as always, a lil life update before i start; i’m back in germany! nigeria was fun. i do plan on going again soon… also, my graduation is coming up so i will be in the UK for that, for a few days. still unemployed lol but i started to apply to remote jobs again, so hopefully something will come out of it soon, in the meantime i will do my own thing and help out in the family business.

let’s review my december language goals ♡:

maintain a 30 days duolingo, busuu & falou streak (i maintained a 29 days streak on duolingo, 19 days streak on busuu and gave up on falou 😂 no but seriously, my subscription expired so i can only learn one language on the free version and i don’t feel the need to re-subscribe bc i rather pay for duolingo or busuu atm than falou. i’m sure i will re-subscribe in the future but not right now. so, i will keep using the other two and give falou a rest. i will post a more in depth review in my resources post!)

write and finish the digital journal entry (notion) about my birthday trip in both french & dutch (i did some progress since my last post but did not finish it)

work through ‘Niederländisch Wort für Wort’ to and incl. chapter ‘Dieses & Jenes’ (not completed)

one of the main reasons why some of them are partially completed or not completed at all was bc of the unstable internet connection in naij and the lack of time. but since i’m back, 5. & 6. and the yt videos should be completed with ease now. 2. & 8. is not completed bc of procrastination tbh. i want to carry it over to january; I WILL ADD IT ONE LAST TIME, if it doesn’t get done this month i will honestly move on! i did plan on getting the remaining stuff done once i got back but, my sleeping schedule has been criminal sooo let’s hope for a better month!

maybe i’m being too optimistic but i planned on learning 3 simultaneously (some at different levels); but french & dutch will be studied passively throughout the year even if it's not in the quarter. i have different goals for each language, which also include not reaching ultimate fluency! but just reaching reading or listening comprehension for example. i will probably do a mini post on what I generally do when i start to learn a completely new language.

i was also thinking of creating a side blog, but only for language learning. i will probably only be posting content about african languages tho, nigerianS to be specific. bc i noticed there is not a lot of info on certain languages so it would be nice to gather them and put them in one place for future reference! i will still be posting my monthly language goals on this blog.

yes, and mostly gay, many kinks, from vanilla to wtf are you even writing type things, but i do seem to lean toward bdsm dynamic in smut, daddy kink often, and a/b/o (tho i really love writing non-traditional dynamic, a lot of omega/omega and alpha/alpha)

yes, and probably sam wilson/harry potter, honestly, I really still adore that one, it worked, I swearm, harry was older and fucked up with ptsd, and sam was awesome, as usual

honestly, i try not to do it anymore, cuz I don't like making it harder for readers in anyway to consume, so unless I can keep it short and clear enough that you can still gather what they are saying without knowing the language, then I leave it out. I will try hard to find other ways, and i'm not super into translations posted after the text, looks clunky, and not super into translations at the end, but yeah, to each their own

dudes, i dont know when i ate last, no idea, like maybe some MASH or like Highlander in notebook as a kid? probably my first shared was interview with the vampire, resulting in much anxiety as a teen

Hello Writeblr!!! I’ve been on Writeblr before under different URLs, but I took a longgg break during which I hardly wrote at all, so I thought this could be a fresh start!

Aside from writing, I enjoy chocolate, panel shows, and getting out of bed after noon. I also love learning foreign languages – sometimes I try and translate bits of my work for fun :)

Who do you most want to take care of?

taehyung - out of my bts bias line (taehyung, yoongi, jimin), he just seems like he's the one who needs the most care lmfao maybe cuz i relate to him so much and i would very much like to be cared for as well. he's just so 🥹 the thing is that i would be awful at taking care of him, so i think we would both just glide through life figuring out shit as we go. which is fine by me lol it's what i do already

Who do you most want to take care of you?

yoongi - to me this is a no-brainer. watching how he cares for the members in his like silent, subtle ways is so fucking endearing. i just know he would be attentive and kind 😭 i'm sensitive and i come from a family background that isn't very caring, so i think i'm drawn to people who are. he's also got his history of struggling with mental illness and (from personal experience) i think that can draw out a caring nature out of people cuz we know how much it sucks to feel shitty/uncared for

Who feels the most like home?

taehyung - as much as i hard stan this man, i have such a soft spot for him. again, maybe cuz i relate to him so strongly? there's the soft, gentle side of him that makes me feel so fuzzy inside. there's a reason why i listened to singularity literally 1,500 times in 2022 (a stat i will be proud of until my dying breath, even tho it kinda points to how fucking mentally ill i am LOL). his voice, his overall presence, feels calming to me. but yeah. he's just very comforting and relatable. i also think that although his promo is going well, he's kinda been an underrated member. i've seen people criticize that he looks mean, doesn't engage in interviews, doesn't hang out with the members as much as his other friends, they think he's stupid, etc. and also don't really appreciate how unique his vocals are/how important they are to the group's dynamic? so i feel very soft toward him for that reason too

Do you have any platonic biases?

jimin - this is kind of a lie cuz i definitely find jimin to be very attractive, 100% would bang if given the chance, HOWEVER i also think we could be such good friends. we could pair up to drag the rest of the members and gossip SO MUCH, SO GOOD. fr he would be so fucking fun. jimin gives me "my best friend who i'm in love with but we'll probably only be fwbs at most cuz he's impossible to lock down" vibes khsdkjfs i just like getting my feelings hurt i think

Express how much they mean to you no limit ramble as much as you want

not to be Too Deep, but like i mentioned, i come from a background that wasn't very caring - especially the men in my life. even tho it's hard to truly know the personalities of celebrities, i think we can all agree that bts seems to show as much authenticity as they can - and they want to do that for us. so it has been really lovely to see these men who are caring, emotional, not afraid to talk about their struggles or express love. idk i've just never seen that irl, and it makes me happy to watch them care for one another. their expression of gender and sexuality has also helped me with my own queer journey, especially seeing how they don't let gender norms control how they express themselves. it's very inspiring. and i think lastly, their willingness to talk about difficult topics (just think how deeply emotional taegimin's solo albums have been) makes me feel very seen. idk. i think a lot of it, for me, falls back on the comfort and reassurance they bring to their fans. it feels like they care, which is not the case for most musicians, especially western ones (the side of the world i'm from)

now that i caught up on work i’m finally going to put out my thoughts abt the new alien stage videos lol (i’m doing top 3 first and then i’m probably going to not do mizisua at least for another few days (or weeks) because i procrastinate like that)

stuff that stuck out to me immediately:

the coins: obviously this is really just a game show to the aliens, and a profitable one at that. they’re making money off of the humans, and presumably the winner takes the big prize for their owner? general consensus is that mizi’s owner is rather decent; they wouldn’t just randomly put her in a death game so i think the reason she was chosen could be for the money

interesting shot: at first i thought it was the throne upon a pile of bodies of the losers, but when i went back to screenshot they look less like humans and more like aliens? could be body bags too, idk. the thing on the bottom right looks kinda like a microphone so i’m leaning towards dead humans

human terrorists: definitely hyuna’s group. we know that she and luka were close; i think they were at anakt together before? the background in the picture featuring them looks like anakt and they’re wearing the same clothes with the collar. they were probably there a generation or so before mizi sua till ivan. ivan found a way out — maybe hyuna did too earlier on (fun hc maybe he simply found the escape that hyuna made before him). im thinking she made it out and established/joined the terrorist group. luka definitely knows something; he wasn’t surprised at all when hyuna saved mizi

aliens protesting/debating: not all aliens consider humans inferior slaves? there seems to be a push for human rights or at least a stop to alnst

ad for anakt for sure: google translate says “institution specialising in human development” and the clothes the child is wearing are very much reminiscent of the anakt garden uniform. anakt advertises itself as a place for nurturing humans, although it looks more to be a feeder to alnst. ivan was sold/given to anakt by his previous owner and everyone else basically grew up there from young. i think aliens send their pet humans to anakt to be trained and if they do well with their singing training ig they go into alnst?

luka: i don’t have much to say on ivan and till’s introductions but luka’s i find is really interesting. he’s alone at the top, the winner of the previous season after he’s eliminated his opponents. the steps leading up to him are labelled with the anakt garden symbol and he’s stuck in a black void, contrasting with the caption “living his endless glory days” — no matter how far he goes, he’s still trapped in alnst and anakt. his interview that we got previously shows that he chose to return to alnst and thinks of it as a chance to “repay” the aliens for the love and support they’ve given humans. how much of that is true? he’s good at talking and keeping himself alive for sure, so why return to the death game? i don’t believe his words about repaying aliens a bit; he definitely has an underlying motive. is he that confident that he’ll win? (theory: maybe he’s helping hyuna?)

announcer: i think this girl is an announcer or something on the show — she’s shown more shouting and hyping up the crowd. her design seems too detailed to be just another throwaway npc; i think she’s going to come into play later

very cinematic shot of sua’s death. i like how it’s framing the mic. i don’t have much to say other than that lol although i might come back to this

mizi as centrepiece: interesting how this shot zooms in on mizi at the centre of all of them, freaking out. till and ivan are placed side by side — of course, given their relationship and the fact that they’re going against each other next. + nice contrast of white and black. hyuna and luka are side by side after — there’s definitely something going on with them (theory: luka is a mole for hyuna’s group?). that leaves mizi alone at the centre (alone without sua, mind you). they’re all interconnected in some way, mizi having connections to all of them. she’s till’s obsession, ivan’s “rival”, competed against luka, saved by hyuna. she’s finally broken away from alnst and anakt, taken in by hyuna. she’s in a lot of turmoil, still traumatised from losing sua and a bit unstable because of luka. she’s left behind everything she knows and is probably facing a huge choice about whether to join hyuna’s rebellion. im guessing she’s going to play a huge role in the future; probably coming in last minute and collapsing the whole thing. i just noticed too, i think hyuna is holding a mic? last minute contestant perhaps?

overall, good tidbits, lots to read into.

theories:

i’m definitely thinking that luka and hyuna are somehow working together, and if not then at least he knows something about what hyuna is doing

mizi is going to come back big time, probably more towards the end

the aliens protesting alnst might come back later on as well, although idk how much they’ll influence the plot. i don’t think most people really noticed that part in comparison to the other scenes so doubtful that they’ll suddenly be inserted with huge impact

the big one: i think ivan is going to win the round against till. i was wavering a bit before but with all the emphasis on ivan being the fan favourite i do think he’s going to win. till is very much an outwardly rebellious character as well that i don’t think the aliens want going far, and honestly i don’t see him going up against luka. luka v ivan is the more dynamic matchup, with luka being the previous winner while ivan is the favourite. they’re both very smart as well (not that i’m trying to talk down till he’s my wet little guy) so it’ll be an interesting (sorry i keep using interesting my vocabulary is small) battle of wits as well as skill. their musical styles also fit together well; it would be hard to write a song fitting both luka and till’s styles, but between luka and ivan they share enough similarities. also, the white/black contrast again. till’s motivation has been mizi the whole time, but now that he thinks mizi is dead i think he’s going to struggle, probably lash out, ultimately die. sad moment for ivan, drama, grahhh im sad abt my bf, grahhhhhh i want to beat luka, drama, etc

soooo i read all the B words in this french dictionary recently - ladies, please! one at a time when you propose marriage! - and boy are there tant de mots de ouf là-dedans !

rows added to my vocabulary spreadsheet: 335. this is considerably more than the number of A-word rows even though there are a lot more A words than B words. whoops!

semantic themes

for some reason, in the B section there were a few semantic categories that seemed to recur a lot. in some cases i think there might be some sound symbolism at work (ba is a common syllable in baby babbling, which could contribute to the frequency of words meaning "babble", "mumble", "prattle", etc. that start with b) but in other cases i haven't a clue.

verbs for speaking indistinctly: babiller, bafouiller, balbutier, baragouiner, barbouiller, bégayer, blablater, bredouiller

other speech verbs: baratiner (spiel), bavarder (chat), bavasser (chat), bonimenter (spiel)

words for trifles (trinkets and/or trivial matters): une babiole, une bagatelle, une breloque, une bricole, un brimborion, une broutille. i might also class et des bananes here

slang for head, face, and/or expression: une bille, une binette, une bobine, une bouille, une boule, une bourriche

slang for belly: un bidon, un bide, un buffet

slang for year: un balai (literally, broom), une berge (literally, riverbank). why? search me!!!

sudden exhaustion idioms: le coup de bambou (also means heatstroke), un coup de barre

verbs for animal noises: bêler, bourdonner, brailler, braire, bramer

i'm now about 50 pages into the Cs (i procrastinated this post lol) and there's a ton of slang for "head" starting with C as well. many of these are, like, names of fruits that are round, so pretty straightforward, but there's also carafe (carafe) and cafetière (coffeemaker). not really following the association there...but i digress.

une banane: obviously this means banana but i'm mainly interested in its "fanny pack" sense because when i was a child i had a fanny pack shaped like and decorated to resemble a banana...COINCIDENCE????

i haven't been writing all of these down but i like compounds like un bouche-trou (stand-in, stopgap; filler) and un brise-tout (butterfingers). see, french CAN make pithy little phrasal nouns without using de! just slap a verb conjugated in the third-person singular present indicative in front of a noun with a hyphen in the middle and voilà, new word. francophones idk what youre complaining about, this shits easy

french has you covered on slang for round or curved body parts with une boule (noggin; testicle) and un boule (ass; boob (in canada anyway)). no one tell fergie or she will find a way to make this about "my humps".

another situation where changing the gender gives you a different but related word: un brassière (bra) and une brassière (sports bra). this is fun for a holiday, but it's a good thing french doesn't make a habit of this or it would be so much harder to learn vocabulary!

un baby-foot: foosball table, foosball game. i have spoken previously about the spiritual experience of discovering that this word exists (see also french is a beautiful language and thank goodness the british are so boring). and it is the gift that keeps on giving because now whenever there's an awkward pause in a conversation i can just drop in this fun fact and immediately we're back in business. hey, don't cry. the french word for foosball table is baby-foot. ok?

une baguette: chopstick! of course baguette refers to basically anything baguette-shaped but i find this especially charming because in english baguette refers only to the bread, so it feels like they named chopsticks after iconic french bread rather than what's actually happened, which is that various baton-shaped things are all called "baton".

ça baigne ? / ça baigne ! and ça boume ? / ça boume !: like ça va but slangier! lord knows i'm always looking to slang up my small talk.

ça me barbe: one thing i am learning is that french has A LOT of ways to say that you are soooooo bored omg just dying of boredom. makes sense for a language in which the word for "boring" also means "annoying".

barder: to kick off, turn nasty, get heated, as in ça va barder ! (there'll be hell to pay / shit is gonna hit the fan!). so pithy.

bernique !: no way, not a chance! knowing that bernique as a noun means "limpet" only increases my enjoyment of this already great interjection.

chercher la petite bête: to nitpick. basically the same image as the english idiom but way cuter somehow.

bibi: yours truly. i need a francophone penpal stat so i can sign all my letters with this.

in english the same word means both "twice a month" and "every two months" which is just terrible design in my opinion. french has solved this problem with bimensuel(le) (twice a month) and bimestriel(le) (once every two months). now the only problem is i have no idea how i'm gonna remember which is which.

bœuf: fantastic, huge, great, impressive. reminds me of that verse in "foux du fafa" when bret is just saying the names of foods at the supermarket in french and goes "bœuuuuuf", which is arguably the best line of the entire song.

bon, je te laisse : well, i'd better get going / i'll leave you to it. finally, a way to say goodbye without sounding like a textbook from the 1950s!

c'est bonnet blanc et blanc bonnet: it's six of one, half a dozen of the other / tomayto, tomahto. i think what i like about this is both that it's a very handy phrase to know, but also from my perspective as a french learner it is not at all a given to me that "bonnet blanc" and "blanc bonnet" would be the same thing, because the position of adjectives in french does sometimes change the meaning! so it's also a lil ironic, which is fun and sexy imo.

one of the things i appreciate the most about him is that kuroo is sooo super perceptive. he knows every little tell and everything that makes me tick and it means alot to someone who's always spent their time doing that for others!! so if i'm not feeling myself, he just knows, yk?

if i need to vent, he lets me vent, and he knows better than to come with solutions - he's just there to listen until i'm ready. if i'm overwhelmed, i don't even have to ask before he's picking up all the menial tasks i meant to do but never got around to. but his main foolproof strategy is a long, tight hug and a few quiet love yous that always manage to make me crack a smile, even if it's only tiny 🫶🫶

Personality: At first I might seem like a silent and a distant person cuz I’m not good at communicating with new people. I don’t click with a lot of people, that being the reason I have only a little friend group who I don’t feel awkward around. But after you get to know me, I’m actually a completely different person - really talkative, loud and smiley even though I can get angered and annoyed really easily. When I am, I get really passive aggressive & I tend to stay quiet not to lash out at other people or accidentally hurt them. But if spoken to and I decide to speak back, my tone does not sound aggressive and speak with short sentences, trying to avoid having a long conversation. A good trait of mine is that I’m a good listener and supportive. I really like supporting people I care about and love in any way & their achievements make me truly happy<3 I’m a BIG daydreamer and my head is often in the clouds😭 I cope with stressful events/distract myself from negative emotions by daydreaming and convincing myself they didnt happen. I’m also a VERY BIG procrastinator and do everything at the last possible moment, mostly because I’m too lazy to do it at that moment. I literally can’t have a straight face and be serious no matter what is going on(except if it’s really serious, then I get serious too lol.) I’m responsible when I need to be & I HATE when I bring people down and don’t meet their expectation.

hi i’m back lol, haven’t killed myself if anyone wondered, just uh… idk been procrastinating? was feeling awful at first, then better, then great, then meh, now i’m kinda good

little life updates:

got a new kitty, his name is Bingo, i love him

my DC special interest only got worse, i am LOST, i’ve read over 500 comics in the last month and a half and it’s all i ever think and talk about lmao (i can quote so many Jason lines, it’s become a problem)

my sibling got top surgery yesterday and i am SO jealous

didn’t go through with my hysterectomy and instead i’ll just stay on pills

got new tattoo, it’s a clown dog :•>

started being able to go out and go to new places all by myself which is great for my brain but awful for my wallet lmao

got a new friend! then i started ghosting them and now i feel too bad to reach out to them again

seriously, DC is consuming my soul and bank account, send help, i keep quoting Jason all the fucking time and i’m pretty sure i’m driving everyone around me crazy but they don’t want to admit it, and also bcuz i know bunch of lines from Arkham Knight i also by default learn some of Joker’s and i HATE it i don’t want to quote that fake clown but i can’t stop myself. at this point saying “is that what you think this is about? your letting me die?[etc]” is as much as a vocal stim as making weird sounds (on top of “turn around. […] what’s the matter? lost for words? i expected more… i’m hurt.” and “I CAN FIX IT!” and other things), like for real i can’t stop.

comic con was fucking awesome, my sibling and i are going to go as Nightwing and Red Hood next year (why is every dysfunctional sibling dynamic in media always fits us so well? them, the eldest, prodigal, favorite, big older sibling energy, me youngest/middle child, troublemaker, loud, estranged. fr we watch Arcane or read anything with Jason and Dick and we’re just like… yeah that’s us). i bought a really cool Red Hood leather jacket and plan on buying the Nightwing one for my sibling this christmas so we can match. also i made crowbar earrings for my cosplay and yes i think i’m very funny

i got a button maker and it’s super fun

I have two articles to write (500 words each), a critical evaluation essay to write (1500 words), a response to a press release I’ve just finished (500 words) and then a whole ass essay that’s 3000 words. All for Monday at 3pm.

I’ll definitely make it, like I have the rest of today and all of tomorrow to do it in, as well as some of Sunday to proofread and submit. I’ve been in worse situations before, and tbh I tend to work better under pressure but right now I’m just like screaming inside my head lol 😂

I’m saving the essay till last as much as possible, mainly because it’s a big boy and I’ll need the whole day tomorrow to just attack it, but also it’s about F1 so I might enjoy it?? Idk I used to enjoy my film essays when they were about things I gave a shit about lol 😂

Anyway, pray for me. Also this is why I haven’t been writing lately lol 😂 I physically feel as though I can’t write anything fun when I have assignments I should be doing.
