Muffet, Monster Kid, and Snowdrake concept arts.

Muffet (aka Scruffet) is originally designed by Richie. I added on the little pigtails because I liked them in her original design. (They can also be a nod to Maddaton EX's hairstyle?? Remember how Burgerpants tried making himself more rectangular like MTT??? Or maybe Maddaton was inspired by Muffet????) It was kinda hard trying to make the shirt work with 6 arms. The shirt didn't come with the pathetic boob window but Maddaton requested that she make it anyways. The second pic is some funny facial expressions.

Monster Kid and Snowdrake are pretty much the same visually but their roles are a bit different. You meet them both in Clearwater where Monster Kid is the leader of a group of kids who idolize Papyrus and the Royal Guard. They dress up like pirates and play pretend together. Snowdrake is just visiting the resort here, you'll see him on your journey as he makes his way back home to Highpeaks where his mom works. He's got souvenirs for his friends, though I'm not sure how he uses that fanny pack without arms...

One thing I think I just realized is, in addition to being dissatisfied with how stories deal with Toriel’s grief compared to Asgore’s and Asriel’s, and how I don’t see many instances of Toriel and Asgore’s quarrel being addressed in a way that satisfied me... I don’t think I see that many AUs that quite get the responsibility Asgore feels... right.

Yes, I’ve seen several that portray his grief, depression, and how badly he doesn’t want to be in this position well, even if it’s disappointing how not everyone seems to be aware of what you learn about him in a Neutral run where you’ve previously killed Flowey. A lot of people can get aspects of his characterization very well, the broken man, the goofy dad, the intimidating monarch. But I think the reason I don’t see people capture the weight of his responsibility quite as well in fanfics and comics is... well. Oddly enough it’s in the way the monsters treat him.

It’s not just the fandom that has issues with idolizing or demonizing characters. It’s also the Kingdom of Monsters themselves--and they all idolize Asgore. Yes, he’s a very grounded and compassionate individual who invites his subjects to share all their problems with him, and who Papyrus insists will just let you pass through the Barrier. But he’s also a bit of the subject of a cult of personality for his subjects. When they say he’ll absorb seven souls and become a GOD, it’s not an expression of his arrogance, but rather their own adoration. While out-of-universe the Angel is generally agreed to be either Asriel or Chara(or us), in-universe I wouldn’t be surprised if Asgore was considered the Angel.

It’s not long now. King Asgore will let us go. King Asgore will give us hope. King Asgore will save us all.

Yes, individual monsters may want to collect a human soul for their own individual wants and desires. But it’s only the capture of a human soul, or using a single soul for their own benefit, that they really aspire to. (With the exception of Toriel, who wants no souls, and Flowey, who is Flowey.) Of those area bosses who earnestly try to take just one soul, Papyrus and Undyne both want to hand you over to Asgore, and Mettaton wants to protect humanity FROM Asgore. Literally everyone in the Underground seems to fully believe that Asgore will be the one taking all the Souls and fulfilling his promises, and all are content. (Again, barring Toriel, MTT, Flowey.) No one seems to ever doubt he’ll do as he says, even his ex-wife, and no one’s greedy to take the power for themselves or take the burden of being a savior for themself, except his kid who has both a God Complex and a Savior Complex.

With Chara, and with Asgore. They take a person and turn them into a representation of something More than any singular person could ever be. And then in the worst route Chara does it again, to themself. Asgore is freedom and salvation and retribution itself, and everyone including the woman who was once married to him agrees and reinforces the role. Chara is the feeling of a number going up, and the fandom agrees and reinforces the role.

And I dunno. There are fics and AUs where Asgore never lost his kids and always remained an affable, friendly guy. There are AUs where Asgore is the main antagonist and an awful villain with few redeeming qualities. There are fics and AUs where Asgore gets to recover in a post-pacifist setting. But I’m not sure any fics or AUs have ever quite captured how everyone else just talks about the guy, for me. Toriel is simply ‘intimidating’. But Asgore is a GOD.

I know the usual thing for papyton is Papyrus has a huge crush on his celebrity idol Mettaton but may I suggest an alternative:

Papyrus does adore Mettaton because he's confident and popular and everything, so when the whole freeing monsterkind happens he ends up getting to actually meet MTT when Alphys brings them along to one of his shows.

MTT's super nervous because this is his first time in front of a human audience and this first impression is going to mean a lot, so when Papyrus sees this he does what he does best and absolutely hypes the hell out of MTT. He goes on reminding him how incredible and talented and he is and how could anyone not love his amazing shows and personality, and if nothing else, all his friends (gestures broadly to the 4 or 5 monsters standing nearby) believe in him! Not only is it exactly what MTT needs in that moment to go out and give a winning performance but it gives him such an instant and intense crush on Papyrus.

He does his best to flirt every time they meet after that but Papyrus always seems to misunderstand or interpret it wrong, it takes months for MTT to just come out and say he likes him. Alphys does not let him live a single second of it down.

Are we talking about the Papyrus now? Screw it, I’ll talk about the Papyrus now.

Back in 2022, I was involved in a conversation with some other people on Tumblr regarding the finale of DuckTales and the Papyrus of Binding, and I pitched sort of a “what if?” scenario that, in some ways, make the twist a bit more plausible (I’m not ignoring canon altogether, but just bear with me here. I repeat: This is not in complete ignorance of the actual twist we got, I was fine with it; this is pure speculation):

The whole reveal scene goes the same, but instead, Von Drake reveals that Webby is a clone of Beakley. Huey then asks how it would be possible that Webby was able to get the Papyrus if she wasn’t blood. Von Drake then explains a “non-blood heir” loophole.

In the finale, there already was a loophole to Bradford’s contract in regards to Scrooge having to choose between his family and adventure (since family is an adventure in and of itself), so realistically, there could also be a loophole worked into the Papyrus. In that instance, the show’s whole idea of found family would be strengthened all the more.

I feel like Webby’s interactions with Scrooge (and Beakley) after this scene could be easily tweaked to reflect all this. Just toss out all the parental references and go with sort of an affirmation of how just because Webby is not a blood relation to the family, it doesn’t mean she’s not part of it, and it sure doesn’t mean that she’s any less worthy of the Papyrus than any of Scrooge’s blood relatives. I mean, the girl freakin’ idolizes him! She is a born adventurer, even without the clone twist that we actually got.

Found this Cult of the Lamb song, and my brain immediately went to Nightmare and his gang. I kind of assigned the Bad Sanses different thing of “(VERB) no evil” like through the song, Nightmare’s going on his Pokemon journey of collecting all the traumatized, murder skeletons.

Horror got “think” because I’m pretty sure his mindset changed after Undyne speared him and the Underground went downhill.

Killer got “do” because he agreed to Chara’s whole deal of killing everyone and is most loyal to Nightmare, doing the dirty work.

Dust is “see” because he can see Papyrus’s ghost or his hallucination (depends on interpretation) and because he was watching for that LV.

Cross is “hear” because he spent all of Underverse and Xtale taking orders or following someone else’s lead up until 0.6, I believe.

Nightmare gets evil because he’s the big, bad boss and grabbed all these skeletons to work for him. 😂

an unusual amount of exhaustion slows my every movement today. not the lazy slow i've typically got; slow like sludge.

i blame it on the dog that wouldn't stop rifling through everything in my room. normally i'd kick it out, but then it'd go bug papyrus. knowing ahead of time he'd be busy today, i'd let it annoy me for the night.

"i'm bored, but i'm not 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 bored."

"Lazy ass."

"the rest of me's lazy too, y'know."

grabbed his pot and carried it with me to the back porch with me. i was met with a frankly surprising lack of complaints, his scowl being the extent of it.

he ignored my reply.

the incredulous look he gave me was expected.

"Because I don't have limbs??"
