Mitsu’s and Nagi’s kick is so ASDDFJGKHJL
This scene literally broke my heart. I am an anime only, but I don’t think Tenn is cold hearted at all. Think of it this way, seeing your worst of fears happening in front of your eyes. How much pain would that give you? You will feel like dying per second. Of course, you can see Tenn protecting Riku here again even when he is in danger. Do you see how Tenn is desperately calling Riku’s name? His shocked expression? Him changing gears from escaping to letting Riku escape first?
Also him teary eyed?

Just some random thoughts about Airi from Project Sekai and Mitsuki from Idolish7 I am hesitantly sharing :>
<Contains somewhat (I think) minor character detail/story spoilers for Momoi Airi (specifically the Happy Lovely Day event story) from Project Sekai and Izumi Mitsuki from Idolish7 (specifically Idolish7 Second Beat and onwards)>
When I got into Project Sekai I couldn’t help kinda noticing similarities and parallels between Airi and Mitsuki. I never really wrote anything or properly got into it and this is not an analysis for that, but just some vague observations, inferences and just rambling about two characters I like :)
For Airi, as she did more and more variety work, her regular idol work became less. She became seen and thought of less as an idol like she wished and more like a variety star for people to laugh at. Not only that, she had a role encouraged onto her that she took out of a mixture of wanting to support her group, thinking it would be good to do, and hoping it would further her idol career. Instead, it was more like a disguise that didn't let her be seen as the 'idol Airi' she wanted to be seen as. She wasn't overly close with those in her group, and like this, she also didn't believe she could truly reach anyone as an idol. In Mitsuki's case, his idol work amount didn't lessen but his variety work did. And while this helped improve and develop his MCing skills, such a role is not something that is as appreciated by fans watching. This was similar in a sense to how Airi would make jokes and do similar "MCing" stuff in performances, but in the end were simple parts to laugh at before moving on to the main performance. In Mitsuki's case as well, him being an opposite to Tamaki (furthest from fans and closest to the staff, while Tamaki is closest to the fans and furthest from the staff), led to some people getting annoyed with his presence in their regular show, viewing him as "stealing the spotlight" and "taking up time" from the other members talking, rather than him just working to keep the conversation flowing and moving. Both Airi and Mitsuki want to be recognised as themselves and as idols, and they also both had slightly different resolutions for how they dealt with their respective challenges in a similar situation.
For Airi, she learnt that she *was* actually reaching some people when she was working on variety programs, and there were those out there recognising her as the idol "Airi" rather than the "Happy Lovely Everyday" persona she had for her variety work. She also had the opportunity to try and change her perception for other fans, and now that she is in a group she is close with, she can appreciate both the fun variety side she can use as well as her idol side – both are meaningful.
For Mitsuki, he first had to learn that it's just impossible to please everyone. No matter how hard he tries, there will always be people who find him annoying when he does MCing. He had to learn to recognise his own value and how even if people might not even think he's necessary or important to be there, he is important to the group how he is. He had to realise he needed to keep the courage to stay as he is, and not try and change his ways to suit the impossible demands of their fanbase.
Pretty much, I think these two are cool, I love them (and the series they’re from) a lot and it was cool to see their similarities :)

Random thought but how come we can get a mecha spin-off out of Idolmaster before it even became an idol series but series like Love Live, Bang Dream, and what-have-you can’t get the same treatment.

It’s interesting how when Tenn got upset at Riku for his stunt, he specifically referred to their parents as the reason.
Tumblr media
During this scene, I had expected Tenn to say something more general or generic like “You could have gotten hurt” or “That was so dangerous. Why did you take such a risk?”. Or at most on a personal level (because how serious the situation looked), “Don’t know you know how worried you made me?”
But here, he specifically mentions the concerns from the perspective of their parents.
One reason may be because of what happened at the end of Second Beat (when IDOLiSH7 and TRIGGER try to confront imposter Zero)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(funny enough, this was also on episode 15. Well played, Troyca)
If Tenn feels like his scoldings don’t have the same effect on Riku because they’re “no longer family”, then it makes sense why he’d tried to appeal to Riku’s concern for their parents instead of something more general or personal coming from Tenn (which if that is really the case, then wow. Props to Tenn for thinking about that on the spot, despite the situation he was in).
Another reason (and far more heavily into speculation territory. Please take it with a grain of salt):
I don’t think Tenn mentioned only their parents as a way to deliberately mask his own concern for Riku like he normally does in past seasons. He, the professional among professionals, damaged an idol’s face. He’s definitely not thinking straight and probably acting on the spur of the moment, unless he really collected himself half a second later.
Compared to how Tenn normally is, there is something almost raw and unrestrained with the way he said that line to Riku. It was kind of like he was drawing from a distant memory or imagining something worse was about to play out during the earlier confrontation.
I don’t think has to be from a single specific incident from the past per say (though it could be). It could be several situations growing up where there were close calls with Riku’s health, and then he overheard their parents’ conversations afterwards. If those sorts of memories had been accumulating for Tenn for many years (especially at his age), it may be possible it became a deep-seeded fear for him that he hasn’t gotten completely over. So when he saw Riku having an attack (which is the first time he’s seen in person in a long time since childhood) in what looked to be dire, helpless circumstances, those old memories and fears may have been brought up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, I don’t really know what was the exact conditions regarding Tenn’s deal with Kujo, if providing relief to his parents was part of it, or how Tenn really felt about his situation (other than that one vague comment in Second Beat). But to see all what you build up and sacrificed for to protect only for it to come crashing down in this one life-or-death situation, for something Tenn may view himself responsible for (getting kidnapped and not being able to escape), its not unlikely that those old memories about Riku and his parents were on his mind, even subconsciously. Him thinking of those memories and fears being about to play out maybe be why Tenn says that more oddly situation-specific line to Riku.
But this is mostly speculation with not much concrete evidence to actually support it. It is probably will be leaning much more to the first reason rather than the second reason since there is something in the story to tie it back to, but I still want to explore reason 2 nonetheless. Regardless, I found this scene peculiar, if not interesting. Hopefully Tenn’s past will be explored more in detail at some point.

Maroon + gold eyes == pink lemonade😊
Kaoru from Idolish7, and a dude from a new anime named Bucchigiri.
Kaoru’s transfem too! She wears heels, lipstick and rocks a neck scarf. Queen. Think she’s referred to as he/him in First Beat tho, but in Second Beat she’s called “good girl” and she/her and refers to herself as a woman.
