A Wilted Rose (Chapter 1)

Heels clicked against the wooden stairs of the theatres first floor as a envelope was toyed with in a figures hand. You fiddled around with the invitation you had gotten from D.M. in your right hand as you held onto the stairs banister with the other, you had forgotten how physically exhausting going up all the theatre stairs were. Even with how physically fit you have to be for your job, these stairs somehow knocked all the air out of your lungs. You made it too the second floor and pulled out the letter from the envelope, eyes scanning over the letter again for where D.M. mentioned his location. You still think he went overboard with renting out the whole 2nd floor viewing area for the show but there wasn't much you could do, this is just how D.M. acts. D.M. always had a massive appreciation for the arts even while in the army with you and even actually learned the violin along with a few other musical instruments. You walked through the second floor and over too the gallery sections, expecting to see a person there. However, nothing came into view. Other then two seats and a table with a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a letter ontop of it. You walked towards the small table and grabbed the letter, opening it by removing it's unique wax seal. "Dear (Name), I apologize for my absence even though it was me who invite you. I'm running quite late due to personal business and won't make it until after the show has started. Please enjoy the red wine I ordered to have brought up and enjoy the show my dear. Yours truly, D.M." You slightly smiled at the nickname. D.M., despite not being here was still the same as ever with the nicknames he gave to everyone and the proper letters he sent if he ever had to be late for something. You sat down and poured yourself some of the red wine he had left you, might as well slightly enjoy yourself. You reclined in the chair, sighing and stretching as your body finally started to adjust to sitting down. The sound of heels clicking against the theatres floor and chatter filled your ears as you remembered, right, this isn't a private viewing. Other people began to fill the 1st floors chairs and sit down, awaiting the shows beginning. Your eyes made contact with the clock on the wall, counting the minutes and seconds that passed. Time itself is a really interesting concept, when you're paying attention to the world around you it'll go fast, but when you pay attention to time it'll go as slow as possible. However sometimes i can go the other way, but at the same time, it always goes at the same pace. It's the human psyche that imagines it's going faster or slower. Your attention soon snapped back to the stage, the elegant red curtains rising as a beautiful stage full of unique props. Even while knowing the truth of what was doing on backstage and the true relationships between the actors, you couldn't help but be mesmerized by the stage. Seconds, Minutes, An hour passed and you were still absorbed in the stage and it's story.

Suddenly though, it felt like that magical aura broke as a woman in a familiar pink and white dress fell from the stages higher platforms. A air of silence filled the theatre as multiple of the actors rushed over to whoever fell. You sat in silence, there's only one leading actress who looks like that. Lady Bella just fell from the highest stage platform. Your heart caught up with your brain as you felt it drop into your stomach, panic, paranoia, and worry for your mentor filled your body as you struggled to breathe. Being consumed by the horrid emotions, you gripped the sides of your chair. Attempting to calm yourself. Whispered resonated in the theatre as the attendee's of the show talked among themselves, the main whisper you could hear were people asking the question, "Is she dead?"

You took a deep breathe as you forced yourself to stand up and started heading towards the stairs, your vision blurry with tears you didn't even notice you had. They slowly streamed down your face as your mind prepared for the worst of the worst, there's no way anyone could survive a fall such as that. She's dead, she has too be. Once you got to the first floor lobby, the sound of footsteps resonated in your ears as you noticed the audience that was once sitting in the auditorium were leaving. Jingle bells stood at the door escorting everyone out with his face down-casted. You took another breathe, wiping the tears from your eyes and approaching jingle bells as the rest of the guests left the theatre. "Victor.... what happened..?" You weakly voiced out, trying to hide the fear and worry in your voice. Victor took a breathe and faced you, tears forming in his eyes as he voiced out too you. "She's dead..." You knew it, but your heart couldn't take it. Tears poured out of your eyes once again as you tightly hugged the security guard, victor returned your embrace just as tight.

"Remember, if you are not heading home you are required to stay here for all of the investigation. If you are you're required to stay in your house for all of the time the investigation is on-going. We will visit you too collect evidence, please have a outsider bring you all the things you need to stay here for at least a week if you decide to stay in the theatre." The words the police said to every staff member ringed in your ears again, and again, and again. All you could do is sit mindlessly in your suite. Your mind both tired and desperately asking questions. Trying to piece together what the hell even happened. "No! I refuse to let you touch her! She would want to stay flawless even in death. I won't let anyone soil her, even if it's her corpse!" Is what D.M. shouted when the police attempted to examine Lady Bellas body. It puzzles you now, why he was so protective of her, why he was acting this way, how did he know that? What's his connection to her? What's this old friends true intentions? Your head ached as you locked your suite door and crawled into bed, attempting to sleep off this sorrowful incident, hoping this was all one really in-depth dream and that when you fall asleep in your dream, you would wake up. But this was no dream and your heart knew it, you would be stuck in this hell of a heart-trap and mind-trap for a good few days.

freddy riley has much more depth than anyone could’ve expected. yeah, he’s a grimy bastard, and yeah he’s been painted as the villain, not quite undeservedly, but there’s always more than what meets the eye.

he’s snippy at nearly everyone when he isn’t busy being condescendingly sweet. freddy can’t seem to remember that not everyone is out to get him. not everyone wants something from him.

for a long time, freddy’s felt empty. even before he slept with martha, even before they duped leo. he’s been searching for something to fill that hollow his entire life. he just wants to feel safe- he’s always been out of place, obsessed with making a name for himself, obsessed with mattering. mattering to someone aside from himself.

his first reaction to kindness is the expected jab- you can’t be serious when you tell freddy you think he did well in a match. no one else is.

the most important thing to do when trying to build a relationship with freddy is to be persistent. he’s going to be quite a nasty piece of work in the beginning, regurgitating venom at everyone who has the slightest potential to be a threat.

please call him out on his bullshit. freddy’s reaction is going to be volatile, most definitely. he’s not used to feeling so… seen. it helps him to ease up a little when you show him that being seen doesn’t always mean being in danger. on the flip side, once you’ve shown mr. riley some basic human kindness, he’s pretty much permanently attached to you.

aggressively kind is the only way to describe his behavior. he isn’t subtle about his growing feelings for you, either, but will vehemently deny anything of the sort if it’s brought up in conversation.

freddy’s most veiled forms of affection include lightly fussing over literally everything you do?? he’s a little naggy, to be honest. he worries a lot. this kind of behavior escalates to hovering by you when you’re decoding and, in his mind, “giving you tips” when he’s really just being… kind of annoying? not to mention dropping everything to try and rescue you when you’re chaired.

mf has only been pining for a week or two and everyone in the manor is already sick of it.

“for the last fucking time riley, you are a decoder. not a rescuer.”

“well, if you could properly rescue, i wouldn’t have to do your job for you.”

“y/n hadn’t even been chaired for long enough for me to get across the map???”

exchanges like that are common now, much to everyone else’s annoyance.

unfortunately, riley is too much of a coward to confess to you. considering the heaps of relationship drama he’s experienced in the past, he’s got some commitment issues. tries to subtly get to know you, asking you about your past and all that jazz. keyword: tries. he’s not subtle at all, and now you’ve got a 5’9” lawyer practically interrogating you about your childhood and desperately trying to seem nonchalant.

the way you’re most likely going to find out that freddy’s absolutely infatuated with you is through someone else, unfortunately, if you haven’t noticed it yet. it’s one of the other survivors sidling up to you and passively complaining about how much his feelings for you get the best of him in matches, how his performance has taken a steep decline.

this is your very… lighthearted warning to either take initiative and ask this buffoon out or have someone else do it for you.

freddy’s reaction to your confession is more than a little disheartening in the beginning. your affection is met with skepticism; your profession of love, however elaborate or simple is scoffed at.

it takes a moment for freddy to realize that you’re being serious. you love him. he isn’t stuck in a useless loophole of being used by people he cares about over and over again. you aren’t lying.

“oh,”

as a partner, freddy is much softer than anyone would’ve guessed. he hasn’t stopped fussing over you, but he’s a little more relaxed when it comes to pestering you about how much sleep you’ve gotten or if you’ve eaten yet since he’s more involved in your daily life.

in private, freddy’s touches are tentative and cautious, waiting to be waved away; this phase will pass once you accept him the first few times, but freddy’s still tiptoeing around the idea of intimacy.

really likes to have his hair stroked; after a long day he might wordlessly collapse onto the nearest surface or rest his head on your thighs with a heavy sigh. this is his way of asking for affection, merely because he either 1. feels needy or 2. just doesn’t know how to ask.

small spoon freddy supremacy. no i do not take criticism.

definitely a fan of more mild foods, rip to people who know how to use seasoning. he’s lowkey a picky eater, and a lot of textures are bothersome to him.

has a very strict day-to-day routine and refuses to deviate from it unless he absolutely has to.

cannot function without caffeine at all. it really messes up his sleep schedule, but it gets to a point where freddy’s just immune to caffeine and has to start drinking way more coffee. please intervene s/o.

a bit random, but freddy can only sleep when the room is almost unbearably cold, buried beneath a mountain of blankets.

definitely a super light sleeper. he probably moves around a lot in his sleep too, tossing and turning to your annoyance.

dates aren’t all that common- freddy’s more casual with his affection and grand displays of it sort of make him uncomfortable. he doesn’t quite know how to handle positive attention. instead, freddy focuses on acts of service and words of affirmation.

the most pda you’ll get is maybe holding hands underneath a table. freddy may be vulnerable around you, but don’t expect him to significantly let down his snippy professional front around anyone else.

The lawyer was quite infamous along the hunter side of the manor

Being one of the first survivors to arrive there, all of them knew him

Not only for that was him known, but also because of the things that he had done to one of the hunters: Hell Ember

For that alone, most of the hunters didn't really like him

But for some reason, you never wanted to hate him or tunnel him like most of them did

Instead, you wanted to know why he was like that, you wanted to know his reasons

And it was with this that you two became really close

You appreciated him for loving you even if you were a hunter, someone who he should fear, and he appreciated you for really trying to know him before judging him for his past actions

In every match that you two would be together, he would always sacrifice himself if the other 3 survivors have already gotten out, just so you wouldn't feel bad

And this was one of these matches

Along with him, there were another 3 survivors, like the usual...But...They were all stunners

You had already dealt with a lot of them, so it shouldn't be too difficult, right?

Wrong

They passed almost all of the match chasing you and stunning you, in a way that not even excitement saved you at that moment

Freddy was the only one decoding, but you didn't even thought of that, you were too focused on trying to kill the 3 roaches that were surrouding you

And after some minutes that seemed like hours, you finally sent them back to the manor

After looking at the number os ciphers remaining...There were still 4?

You looked around, just to see him looking directly at you

" ...What you're doing here, Freddy? You need to decode and- "

But before you could finish, he stopped you

" I saw what happened "

He said, which made you really shocked, without saying anything for some seconds, feeling the tears come down your face

He didn't say anything again, he wasn't someone known for talking a lot, but instead, he came to you and hugged you tightly

And it was with that that you finally broke down

Tears coming down your face without stopping, you were just...Too stressed! It was one of the most stressfull matches that you had!

You felt really sad for that...You just didn't thought that survivors could be that mean, especially in a death game like that!

It took you some really long minutes to finally recover, and Freddy was at your side until you got okay

After that, you let him decode one more cipher and get the dungeon, he deserved that, after all

After that match, you could see Freddy changing a little in his matches....

Even if he didn't talked with the survivors that bullied you, you could hear some people complaining that he never saved them, or that in his kites, he would always bring the hunter to the ciphers that they we're doing

Well...Maybe this could be just a coincidence, but...

What a perfect coincidance

Oh, Kevin...

How do we describe Kevin to begin with?

Surprisingly, he was one of the survivors that were on the "good side" of the hunters

Most of them liked him or respected him

After all, he was one of the few survivors that were good before they came to the manor

And also, his protective side among women and his loyalty among men were really noble

It wasn't very uncommon to see him sacrificing himself just so his teammates could get away

And it was because of this that you got really curious about him

During the matches, you would follow him just to see what he would do

And with that, you started to see a little of his personality in his actions

Such as how he never kited near the others, or how even when the gate was open, he would still kite you just so he would be the only one knocked down

With that, you started falling for him, and he felt for you as well

You would always go on small dates after the matches to relax a little, and just to be together

Kevin knew you very well, so when you came in one of these dates looking different, he already knew that something had gone wrong

He tried to talk to you, but you were just so sad and embarassed of what happened that you couldn't make yourself talk about that with him

He felt kinda bad for it, but he didn't want to force you to say anything

So then, he spent the rest of the night with you!

Because of that, at the end of the night, you were a lot better, and finally felt that you could talk to him about what happened

When you told him about what the others did to you, he looked shocked

How could them do that to a woman? And especially you! A hunter that was so kind and beautiful!

He told you that he would make sure that this wouldn't happen again, and after that, he talked with these survivors

And for that day beyond, every time you were matched with Kevin and one of these other survivors, he would always be near you

Emily Dyer;; ✤ The second she walked into your room and saw you changing, she just froze. ✤ Took her a few seconds to realize what she was seeing. ✤ Squealed in shock and slammed the door shut, slightly panicking. ✤ She continued to apologize, over and over again for the whole day.

Emma Woods;; ✤ When she walked in, seeing you, she was silent. ✤ Scared you, actually. ✤ Calmly left the room and shut the door, quickly rushing off to her room. ✤ Covered her face with a pillow and screamed for at least 10 minutes straight.

You had just come back from a match, bloodied, bruised, plenty of new cuts, a sprained wrist, and what looked to be a deep gouge in your right leg. the hunter hadn’t had an ounce of mercy when dealing with your team, you and William were the only ones who didn’t make it out surprisingly enough. Aesop and Demi came back from the match nearly unscathed and Demi walked you to Emily’s medical wing, you’d have to take it easy for a couple of days, Leo really did a number on you.

“Y/n please, just be careful with your wounds too much movement could worsen the damage, no more matches this week.” said Emily, her hand resting gently on your shoulder, “I’ll walk you back to your room, you need rest.” Emily gave you some pain medication before walking you down the hallway to your room.

“What about dinner?”

“I'll send someone up.”

You sighed as you rested on your soft, plush bed. Your arm rested in a cast that swung around your shoulders, a little excessive for a sprained wrist but Emily insisted it was that bad and honestly you believed her, it hurt like hell.

Half an hour later dinner was ready and you were dying to eat something, the pain meds were wearing off and your body ached with a burning pain like no other. The aching trailed up from your wrist down into your torso and down through your leg, the bloodied gash seeping through the bandage and onto your white sheets.

You wept until dinner was brought up to your room. Your tears stained the cast on your wrist as your body lay stiff in your bed, it hurt to even breathe, your torso was far too bruised to even take a deep breath without intense pain. You just wanted it all to stop.

A gentle knock came to your door, you whimpered out a “yes?” before the door gently swung open, a round glasses frame and a pair of squirrel-ish teeth came into view and you knew it must be Freddy, even with salty warm tears blurring your sight.

“Freddy?” you whimpered as he brought a tray closer to your bed, he sat on the edge of your bed as he slid the tray over to your hands, he didn’t say much, just looked sorry for you which was definitely out of character for him.

“Y/n your arm..” he trailed off brushing his fingers against the cast, causing you to flinch as he quickly pulled back holding his hand in his other palm.

“You won't be able to eat this by yourself.” he said, more like a statement than an observation, gesturing to the orangish red liquid which seemed to be some sort of tomato soup. His hands shakily reached for the spoon as he took a spoonful of soup and led it to your mouth.

“Freddy you don't have to do this I can eat by myself, and why are you helping me anyways?” You asked, confusion clear in your voice as tears fell onto your lap, the pain was so incredibly unbearable.

He didn’t say anything, just gently grasped your chin as he let the spoon slip between your lips, the slightly cold soup sliding down your throat as the taste of tomato basil flooded your taste buds, it was delicious.

The soup bowl slowly emptied as the two of you sat in silence, Freddy shifting ever so slightly in your bed as he sat leaned over you, as much as he was giving you an annoyed stare you saw the kindness behind it, Freddy had never been so gentle before.

A surge of pain shot up your arm and you yelped in pain, grasping at your wrist, almost dried tears threatened to be washed over as the liquid brimmed your eyes. Freddy gasped, setting the bowl aside and leaning close his grating, yet sheepish voice wavering and whispering sweet nothings into your ear “shh it’s okay, i'll go get you some medicine” he whispered, before shuffling his way off of your bed and running to go get something for you.

Not even five minutes later Freddy came back, a glass of water in one hand and 2 pain pills in the other. After downing both the glass of water and the pills you lied back down your leg stinging as the bandage rubbed against the wound, your eyes felt heavy, the crying must’ve worn you out. Just as Freddy was about to leave, his hand on the doorknob, you let out a soft cry “please don't go.”

Freddy looked back at you, hesitation glazed his eyes as he leaned back towards the door, checking the hallways to see if there was anyone there before silently closing it and walking back towards you.

He slid next to you, his nervous form not steadying as his body pressed gently against yours.

Your eyes struggled to stay open as the lawyer stroked your hair until you fell asleep, or so he thought. “Y/n you’re the only person who makes me feel whole, am I even worthy to be around you?”

“You’re so kind to me even though you know i'm greedy and spiteful, and that i've never done anything for anyone else in my life, I can’t expect you to love me back.” He says, staring at the back of your head as your body is turned sideways into a little spoon position. The words that just came out of his mouth made you want to cry, he had always been such a heartless prick in the manor, nose stuffed into a book while he ignored everyone and everything around him, but this kind side of him was something so pure and sweet.

Freddy had a reputation of being unpleasant, uncaring, rude, and just overall horrible to people, as though he had no care in the world besides existing and surviving for his own needs, never lifting a finger for anyone else.

“When I heard how bad you were hurt I got scared, scared that I may never get to be around you anymore, it’s still pretty selfish though isn’t it?”

Your body shifted painfully, turning towards the dark brunette as his eyes widened in awareness that you had heard everything he said.

“I- Y/n, how much did you hear?” He asked sitting upright, his voice quivering with anxiety.

You didn't answer in your pain stricken form and only leaned forward from your position to lay a kiss on the corner of his mouth. “You aren't as bad of a guy as you pretend you are.”

Note: Hi again! First of all, sorry if this took a bit of time. It's okay if you send more than one request so go ahead! Now, about this. I'm sorry if it looks more like a sick reader without coming into details about the fever- And I hope you're feeling well at the moment.

》Freddy is a man who learnt to hide what he feels in order to get what he wants, and due to this, he almost forgot how to show his feelings to others. However, when he discovered that you weren't feeling good, he didn't care at all about seeming worried and went directly to your room.

》"(y/n), for the love of God, are you okay?"

》He didn't even wait for your answer, because seeing your current state was enough.

》At first, he asks if you need Emily for something every single minute, which is a lot considering Freddy doesn't like her.

》But he starts to take care of you by himself, feeling the need to do something to make you feel better and comfortable. He's ready to give you whatever you ask him, it doesn't matter if it's some medicine or a simple blanket.

》Reminds you to drink water. He isn't a doctor but he supposes keeping hydrated is important.

》And of course, nothing of getting out of your bed. Resting is always more importan than all those matches. They can wait, after all.

》He doesn't mind holding your hand, hugging you or giving you kisses if you ask for it. He could even sleep with you if you wanted it, to not make you feel alone after spending the whole day with him. Freddy would stay away from someone else, but when it's about you, it looks like he forgets that he could get sick as well.

》And if he does, he wouldn't make a big deal about it. He thinks it's whorth it if he was able to take care of you.

》He may act as always when you recover, but he lets you see through his smile that he's glad you're feeling well again and he would take care of you no matter how many times you get sick.

Ack- Thank you so much for the first request, anon! I’ll try my best to stay out of my anger zone for Freddy, since I’m a simp for Emma and kinda anger at him cause backstory reasons-

☆ Like most people, he really didn’t care for you when you first met. A bit interested in how different you were, of course, but felt ‘eh’ about you.

☆ UNTIL he overheard you talking with Luca about modern-day problems and law. Quickly shooed that zappy zappy man(i am sorry) away and sat by you, quickly starting a conversation on law.

☆ And somehow. Just somehow, you two ended up together. The guy seemed snippy and unbearable at first glance, but once you warmed up to him, he was...quite sweet. Getting you small gifts every once in a while, like flowers or treats.

☆ Sure, he could be quite snappy and rude at times, but just start to “ignore” him, and he’ll slowly but surely calm down and try to talk with you again.

☆ Cuddles and such are a bit uncomfortable for him, since he’s used to not being touched like that. The most you should expect is handholding and short hugs, but if he’s feeling up to it, he might lay by you for a bit.

☆ You didn’t feel like coming out to him once you started dating, since you were worried he would quickly dump you and walk away without a care.

☆ You didn’t have to completely come out to him. He actually walked in on you changing and saw the scars on your chest. Asked what they were, and you explained. He was quiet for a bit, sure, but hugged you and let you know he didn’t care, that he loved you anyway.

☆ He loves it when you teach him about the ‘modern days’, but hides it. He’ll respond with ‘hm’s or ‘i see’s, making it seem like he’s bored, but will happily chat about them with you in private.

☆ Listen, he tries his best in matches, and so do you! Whenever you’re rocket chaired, he "casually” goes over to save you, seeming like normal. Internally, though, he’s panicking that he might lose you. If you somehow did get eliminated, he sucks in the tears and gets adrenaline to finish the decoding and escape for you. He’ll wait and pace in the manor, waiting for you to walk through the doors again.

☆ Not a big fan of nicknames, but may call you “Good-looking” or “Dear”.
