Has anyone else noticed the use of shadows and light in Nimona? Cause I find it really interesting how through most of the movie Ballister is stuck in the shadows while Ambrosius is always in the light.
For example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also draws parallels between Gloreth and Ambrosius as Gloreths statue is always bathed in lights, due to the fact we only ever see it at night (I think) surrounded by darkness.
Tumblr media
I think it’s also interesting that once Ballister meets Nimona the contrast between shadows and light becomes even more pronounced, with the two of them living together in a darkened lair, sneaking around at night and rarely being seen in daylight. This contrasts Ambrosius who we never see without the spotlight shining on him.
Tumblr media
This contrast becomes clearest in the “nacho” scene, when its glaringly obvious just how different the twos views on Nimona and the Institute are.
Tumblr media
However, the motif is subverted after this when Ballister confronts Nimona on the statue of Gloreth. For the first time in the movie since the death of the queen he is in the spotlight, pulled from the shadows into the light.
Tumblr media
This is especially beautiful as he pulls Nimona, a character who till this point had always been in the shadows, into the light with him. (There’s probably a metaphor for mental health, transness and queer identity in there but someone else can probably put that far more eloquently than me).
From this point onwards Ballister is never framed in shadows again, but more importantly, he is only framed in natural light, often with a warm tone contrasting the previous cool toned unnatural lighting (warm tones also being used in relation to Nimona):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I think the meaning of all this could be debated my personal favourite interpretations of it are:
- the changes in lighting represent Ballister’s feelings towards himself through the film, specifically in relation to his relationship with Ambrosius (him being in shadows more after the queens death, seeing himself as inferior to Ambrosius, being in light as he is going through the “evil lair” showing his acceptance (?) of Nimona’s “passing” and his contribution to it).
- the way he is perceived by the in film audience viewing him (more shadows when he “kills” the queen, in light when he saves Nimona).
Anyway, feel free to add anything extra or any additional observations or anything I missed
(I have dyslexia so please don’t be to hard on any mistakes I’m really trying I promise)

Math masterpost!
So you want to learn math. Good. Math is amazing. I studied physics for two years and I miss it SO MUCH. Learning math isn't just cool, but it's a great way to improve skills such as:
Resilience: sometimes you will get stuck for a while on a problem - this is absolutely normal for college-level problems. You won't start from here though;
Self confidence: mastering a subject known to be difficult is fun;
Problem solving: you will be less likely to just sit down and do nothing if something comes up in your life, you will be able to try to find a solution.
It will change your approach to failure as you will become more flexible in your thinking.
Unfortunately most people never learn how to properly study math. We all probably know how to study a book over humanities. We start by reading the material, then we take notes of the keypoints. But this method doesn't work with math, and math teachers often don't really know either.
For the basics I've made this post here. To sum it up:
Please don't start with "but i suck at it". Because then your brain will actually prevent you from learning (self-fulfilling prophecy, anyone?);
Realise that you need to master one topic before covering the next one or you won't be able to progress;
Really, the methods you use for things like literature or psychology or whatever won't work
Now I'm not a genius, I always was and I always be a terrible student. I have adhd, depression and chronic pain, all of which add a difficulty layer with learning.
I feel like most people fail because of the first point. I've seen this with people I've tutored IRL, people I try to fix their pc... Don't be the person that gives up before trying because no one likes that. Just don't. Remember that you are learning on your own and no one is going to grade your excercises. Now take that and make a poster out of iy.
Now, resources Where To Find The Stuff.
Khan Academy. I didn't follow this courses becuase well, university, physics, but everyone references them.
Professor Leonard
The Math Sorcerer
3b1b (curiosities in math)
Vsauce2 (fun)
numberphile (this for understanding math memes)
r/learnmath resources are great!
A great study method
Proofs? Proofs.
A 3 page document on learning math (but it's cool)
Terry Tao's famous post "there is more in mathematics about rigour and proofs"
Remember that, even if you don't like a specific youtuber, source or anything it has been a while since college and high school teachers started to upload their own material. Generally, looking for like "calculus pdf" will give you a lot of resources. Youtube is full of university courses of every kind and it's so good to access all of this knowledge for free. I cannot recommend you anything regarding textbooks because I still have my high school one. Also yes, i've used the Rudin as a complementary textbook in university but that's a bit too much.
I really, really want to emphasize the mentality part. Leaning formula is useless if you feel like garbage because you weren't able to solve the first exercise you picked up after a decade not doing anything.
My personal and sparce advice:
Unless you have dyscalculia don't use the calculator. I know, I KNOW. But this "lazyness" will make everything 10 times more difficult.
Beware about overlearning. Basically, when you solve everything at the first attempt and you keep doing the same thing over and over because it feels good, but the truth is that you are wasting time. This is the time to move forward.
Try to differentiate between a knowledge error(did I actually study the subject?), a conceptual error (did I understand the material), or a mere calculation/distraction error (fo example a missing sign, writing the wrong thing etc)
Try to solve the problems in different ways if you can.
After a certain time, It will be useful to review things done in the past, (ref: spaced repetition method).
Write everything down. Reasonings, steps etc. It will be easier for you to review them.
This posts keep crashing so I have to call it quits now.
but:
have fun

Boundaries (updated)!
Hail, True Body AU
Hey, I'm Mark/Mustang (whichever you prefer) and I made/make the 'Hail, True Body' AU for the Mandela Catalogue. I've already gave my boundaries briefly when I first started my blog here, but I thought I'd give the points more in-depth here on their own post.
1. Shipping (romantically/sexually)
An absolute and emphatic 'NO'. Do not romantically ship ANYONE in the HTB AU, that also goes for /reader or Y/N content. Not only should you not do this because of it being one of Alex Kister's boundaries, but also because it reduces my work to nothing more than shipping when the story I am telling has no place for it. HTB AU is about platonic and familial love as well as self-love. It's about what it means to be human when it's in direct conflict with the psychological horrors going on all around. It's also about coming to terms with past traumas and hurts and facing them in order to move forward. Shipping undermines everything I am trying to do and want to do with this AU. Plus, having to see NSFW content of your work when you specifically and explicitly don't want it really sucks the fun out of creating something. I am putting my foot down straight out of the gate as hard as I am because I've already had one instance of inappropriateness and never want it to happen again.
That being said, if you want to "ship" (I mean, it's not really 'shipping' in this context) platonically in a 'brOTP' kind of way, you absolutely can. There is plenty of platonic intimacy in the series - hugs, comforting, taking care of each others' wounds, etc. Having a favourite friendship group is absolutely fine and more than welcome if you want to talk about their dynamics or write/draw for them.
2. Art & Fanfic
Have a scene you want to draw or would you like to write a 'what-if' scenario - like maybe a 'what-if Mark had listened to alt!Cesar in the church in chapter 6'? You are absolutely welcome to! All I ask is that you tag it back to the fic series on Ao3 and tag me if you can so I can see and support it - I love seeing what you all make!
This section also covers things like animatics, comics, playlists, and even cosplay!
The tag for this AU is #hailtruebodyau on Twitter and #hail true body au everywhere else!
If you have any questions about the content you are thinking of making, you can always send me an ask or a message and I'll get back to you ASAP!
3. Headcanoning
Loosely tied to the 'Shipping' section, headcanoning characters as being in romantic/sexual relationship with anyone is not permitted. However, you are more than welcome to have headcanons about them as individuals. For example, do you headcanon HTB Mark as transmasc, asexual, etc., or resident eldritch horror alt!Cesar as agender/non-binary? That's awesome, I think having those headcanons are very cool and they're very welcome here!
4. Character Designs
The characters in this AU have very specific designs and outfits across the different eras that these fics take place in. When making art or content of them, please don't significantly change their designs - both physical appearance and their outfits. This is because their designs carry a lot of stuff that is important across the AU, tying into their backgrounds and experiences, etc. For example, if you want to draw Mark post 1992, please don't remove his facial scars or the patches from his denim jacket - they are crucial to his character in this AU!
However, please know you can make small changes. For example, do you think Mark would wear glasses whilst reading? Feel free to add them! Or like @pandoricabox did with their amazing HTB Dave cosplay, you can add small details like stress doodles on skin, or extra jewellery, etc!
If you are unsure if your changes to a character might cross into this boundary, send me a message and I will get back to you ASAP!
5. Roleplaying
This one is a bit more of a difficult one as the rules are a bit more complex(?). I don't mind if you want to roleplay as characters from this AU - roleplay is a good skill to have and it can help greatly with developing writing/storytelling skills! However, the characterisations of the cast in Hail, True Body AU are quite set on their paths and I'd rather not have people complicate things by making public roleplays that have the potential to confuse readers who stumble across them and think they might be accurate depictions of the characters.
So, please don't publicly roleplay as these characters!
However, you are more than welcome to make private roleplays with your friends if that is something you'd like to do! If you end up wanting to share the odd funny or cool moment from said RPs, you can do so, but please make it clear that it is a roleplay and isn't considered canon to the AU.
6. OCs
If you'd like to make your own OCs and write stories about/make art of/roleplay as them within this universe, you are more than welcome to! All I ask is that you follow the same rules as laid out in section 2 for "Art & Fanfic" and credit me for the AU setting you are using. Additionally, if you plan on role-playing as those OCs in this setting, you absolutely can do that publicly - your characters are yours, after all! Only follow section 5 for roleplay regarding the AU's main cast (Mark, alt!Cesar, etc.).
Thank you for reading! You're all amazing and I cannot thank you enough! <3
You are also welcome to screenshot this to share to other platforms!

Howe do you get the characterisation of the characters you write about soo well? Like legit was reading the ring in (again) and that was a huge take away I got. Like “man, this IS Carlos and TK” same with your firstprince fics. What’s your secret? 👀
Hey, anon. This was super nice and very unexpected, so thank you for making my night <3
Truthfully, I can't articulate this well, so I'm sorry if it seems a bit scattered. A lot of my characterisation comes from me scheming up scenes in the shower, literally zoning out and thinking of dialogue as if the characters are being acted out in front of me. I do have some tips that work for me (and I hope are helpful for you!) which I've put below. Please feel free to let me know if you need further clarification!
Also, if anyone else has any tips, feel free to contribute. I'd love to hear them :)
TIP 1: For Lone Star (or any visual media - TV/movies), I'd spend a LOT of time re-watching the scenes, observing character's mannerisms and trying to replicate that in and amongst the dialogue (you don't even want to KNOW how many times I've watched Tarlos compilations - it's sickening). I think a LOT can be achieved with visual cues - for example, TK loves that sassy hand he whips out every now and again - and I'll try and build those things in with my dialogue. THIS IS ALSO WHERE GIF MAKERS ARE SO AMAZING, because GIFs provide snippets of scenes which allow writers to really hone in on a character's micro expressions. Carlos loves to raise an eyebrow, for example. I think these little details can go a long way.
TIP 2: It helps to build in familiar phrases. I love a canon callback (as long as it fits within the scene) and I think they can be super useful in adding extra authenticity. For example, one I used recently was Alex's "cool to see you're not dead or anything." It's a canon line, which can be easily applied to a different context. It just adds that extra flair, because you KNOW that the character would say that. I would just caution you to use them sparingly, so they pack that extra punch.
TIP 3: Read widely in the fandom! I think it helps to get a really good understanding of how characters behave by developing your own sense of what is in character. If you really vibe with how an author is portraying a character, make note of why you feel that way and try and apply it (obviously without plagiarism) in your own way.
TIP 4: Ask for (gentle and constructive) feedback from people you trust, if you feel comfortable enough to do so. I am FOREVER grateful to some of the people I've met in fandom who have been able to guide me with sensing what is/isn't out of character. It doesn't even need to be a full beta read. It could be quite simply: 'hey, do you think X would do this?'. Don't be afraid to reach out! I am so open to helping people with this and I know a lot of other people are too.
TIP 5: This might be a bit weird, but I do this because I am not an American and I write for a lot of American media - I spend a lot of time trying to visualise how a certain character would say something in their accent. It's taken me a long time to learn certain Americanisms and I'm sure I still get a lot of them wrong, but sometimes I literally close my eyes and try and imagine Ronen saying a line I've written, in his accent.
TIP 6: Keep writing the characters!!! The more you do it, the better you will get. I'm even looking back at some writing I did in early 2022 and trying to fix a bit of my characterisation, which just shows how much it has changed even in 1.5 years!
Best of luck and thank you so much for being so kind. I hope these are helpful!

Sakura: Are you excited, Anata? Nervous?
Sasuke: What's there to be excited or nervous about? *closes his eyes to sleep*
Sakura: Right, Sasuke-sensei. *kisses him on the cheek* So, I'll be there at 1 PM and teach until 2. From there, you can lecture until 4 PM.
Sasuke: Okay.
---
The atmosphere in the classroom was different. Everyone was looking forward to this day, including Sakura. She promised to record the whole session for Sarada, too. All were anticipating for his arrival. It was 5 minutes before 2 PM. Everyone was looking at the door. Sakura was at her desk waiting for him, too.
It wouldn't be an Uchiha Sasuke entrance if it was not iconic enough. He appeared in front of the class using Amenotejikara, swapping places with a piece of chalk. He was there standing in front of everyone.
Tumblr media
Class: Whoa! *claps as if they saw a magic trick* So handsome! So cool!
Sakura: Anata? /thinks/ He said he didn't prepare anything?
Sasuke: This is one of the abilities of my rinnegan. I can switch places with objects and people.
Class: Woooooh!
Sakura: /thinks/ Of course he needed to show off for the intro..
Sasuke: Good afternoon. I'm Uchiha Sasuke and I'll be your substitute teacher for 2 hours. I'll teach you about dojutsu, specifically the sharingan and rinnegan.
Sakura: /thinks/ Sasuke-kun is so.. hot as a teacher??
Sasuke: I think my wife taught you the basics of dojutsu, so today I'll focus more on the actual abilities that they can do.
Class: Yes! Woooh!
Sasuke: I'll show you the jutsu if I can. If not, let me use a genjutsu to show it to you from my memory.. That is if you'll let me use a genjutsu on you.
Class: Yes, sensei!! We all agree!
Sasuke: Good. Let's start with the sharingan's ability to copy movements. It is very useful during battles.. But for a demo, let's do something simpler. Anyone here who knows calligraphy?
Student1: Me, sensei!
Sasuke: My wife can confirm that I don't know how to write callipgraphy.
Sakura: Yes class, he can't.
Sasuke: Please bring paper and a pen and go to the farthest seat. Write anything when I say so. Sharingan! *his eye turned red* Go!
Student1: *scribbles something* Done!
Sasuke: *takes a piece of paper and writes on it* Come in front and show your writing to the class. *shows his paper*
Student1: *shows the exact same copy*
Class: Woooow! *claps*
Sasuke: Sakura, please feel free to add anything at any point.
Sakura: Sure! Class, Sasuke's sharingan is the strongest kind. He can see on a cellular level. He can read hand seals from afar.. He can memorize and copy almost any ninjutsu, taijutsu, or genjutsu.
Class: What? Too cool!
Sasuke: My sharingan can also see and erase a person's memory, which is very useful for my missions. The more advanced sharingan can even control tailed beasts.
Class: Wooow! So powerful!
Sakura: Sasuke has eternal mangekyo sharingan. Mangekyo sharingan causes blindness over time but the eternal one negates that.
Sasuke: Right. Okay, so now let me put all of you under a genjutsu and I'll show you several instances where I used the full potential of my eye.
Class: Yeeees!
After several examples..
Sasuke: How was it?
Class: Wow, it was like watching a movie! You're awesome, Sasuke-sensei!
Student2: My favorite is the susanoo! So cool!
Student3: Mine is Amaterasu! Its color is so caool and can burn other flames!
Sasuke: *smirks* Now, on to Rinnegan. *shows his left eye*
Class: Woooh!
Sasuke: Like how I switched places with the chalk earlier, I can also use my rinnegan to create portals and enter a different dimension.
Class: Whoaaa!
Sasuke: The rinnegan can utilize the 6 paths technique. Later, I'll show you how I used it before. *proceeds to explain the 6 paths and show them his memories*
---
Sakura: My students made a petition that you start doing a special class about dojutsu next semester. *giggles*
Sasuke: No..
Sakura: You did really well, Anata. You're a better teacher than me.
Sasuke: No. You're the best out there.. Sakura, how can you work and teach and not get tired?
Sakura: I do get tired! But I think you're exhausted because you used up much chakra today.
Sasuke: Right.
Sakura: My students were so happy.. Thank you, Anata!
Sasuke: Well, it's a deal..
Sakura: You deserve a back massage tonight.
Sasuke: I deserve more than that.
Sakura: Oh yeah?
Sasuke: Let me sleep for 2 or 3 hours and I'll be good.
Sakura: Then?
Sasuke: I'll teach you some ~advanced~ lessons later.
Sakura: Sasuke-kun! *flustered*

screenshot saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so uhh
this'll be a short one
sorryyyyyyy
I DO HAVE STUFF FOR YOU THOUGH
for example....
Tumblr media
you might be wondering what the hell this is
this is a background for the visual novel aspect of the game!
well, an unfinished one.
i based it off this screenshot i took off google maps!
Tumblr media
some of the things i need to add are
well
pretty much everything lol
but let's be more specific:
you see how in mine, all the textures seem flat, while in the real photo, the textures are defined?
bit funky innit
the thing is uh. i have no idea how to add texture like this in pixel art.
ive tried many times and it just looks really bad lmao
so i've done some research, and i think what i'm looking for are called "clusters"
never heard of those before
also whenever i look up a tutorial for drawing them they just basically say "just draw these funny shapes!" and i'm like "okay but wHERE. YOU CANNOT JUST TELL ME TO DO THING. I NEED CONTEXT FOR THING. OOGA BOOGA BANG ROCK WITH STICK"
completely unrelated but i've noticed that whenever i get two ads on youtube, i can't skip them both at once
like when i press the skip ad button, it just goes to the next ad
don't know if this is only happening to me but it is REALLY annoying
fuck you youtube
i suppose i should dedicate the end of my post to the project itself.
ANOTHER QNA!
Q: Will you charge money for the game?
A: Complicated question.
this game is the epitome of a passion project in my eyes. it is a story i am telling not for any of my own personal gain, but simply because i feel like it is a story that needs to be told.
but enough of all this sappy shit, i'll just explain it simply:
when this game eventually comes out, i will either:
a: open the game up to donations (like the "name your price" thing), the majority of which will go to charity and anyone who helps on the project or
b: make the game 100% free.
Q: Do you accept fanart of the characters?
A: UH
YEAH????
if you draw my characters i will literally go bonkers /pos style
i unfortunately don't have an official ref sheet for any of them yet, but i'll be able to provide substitutes if asked
i think it would be cool to feature some of the fanart in the credits! (with permission from the artists, of course!) but that may take up too much space so i'll have to think it over.
tldr i fucking love fanart
Q: What about NSFW?
A: ...
Okay.
Listen.
I HIGHLY advise against it. I'm a minor and that's just like. weird.
Even after I turn 18, it'll still be weird because they were characters I first drew up when I was 16.
but at the same time, i accept that this is the internet, and that some gooner supremo will eventually stumble across this game :/
so i just have one definitive request.
PLEASE
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
DO NOT INCLUDE CHARACTERS WHO ARE UNDER 18
for example:
You may remember Silhouette.
they are CANONICALLY 13.
so like. keep them out of it.
i don't care if they're "just a character". you could say my fist is "just a body part" right before i bash your face in
if you want, i can provide the ages for any character you ask. i have a whole spreadsheet!
so please.
anyways that's gonna do it for today
to everybody who isn't youtube: i love you and thank you for being here
i will see you next week!

Okay so to the anon asking about pushing back a special interest to focus on uni work. There's no normal way to explain this it's weird, but I cannot actually publish your ask because of something to do with a couple of words you used and how my OCD decided they're bad luck. I tried to talk myself round it, can't do it. That's not in any way your fault or your problem, but I'm just explaining why I'm not doing that and am just going to try and answer the question here.
So you have a new special interest, and you can't stop thinking about it enough to focus on schoolwork? And you don't have the structure of high school that helped you, and you don’t have a diagnosis so accommodations aren't an option?
So the thing is I'm very lucky in that I was able to study a special interest in university (linguistics), so I didn't really have that problem. But I suppose there was college before that, where only some of it was related to that. I get what you mean about structure, that's really crucial for me too. Is there possibly some way you can create more structure for yourself? Like scheduling specific times you always study? Maybe schedule some special interest time for right afterwards, as motivation? I don't know how you feel about contact with other students, but there may be study groups or something you can join so you're like, officially scheduled to study with expectations from other people as well?
Even if you can't get accommodations, you could possibly talk to a tutor or other advisor at the uni? Lots of students struggle to keep up their studies even if they're neurotypical, they will be used to giving advice. Depending on the person and if you can trust them you could even mention autism, just to explain the problem more specifically. I don't know if you want to pursue a diagnosis, but I have heard of some people being pointed in that direction before because they were struggling in further education. It can take a long time, so it might not be immediately helpful, but it might be useful to think about in the long run.
Another thing is, do you think there's any way you can fit your special interest into your work? Something cool about university versus school is you often get more choice in the specifics of your assignments. When I was in college and doing things not directly related to linguistics, I would take every opportunity to fit it into other subjects. For example, in psychology when I had to write about Skinner, I got in some significant discussion of his views on child language acquisition and Chomsky's response to them. If you can make it relevant, this can lead to a lot of interesting and insightful work. Of course, it might depend on the interest, but there might be less obvious connections that you could be more equipped to figure out because you're so into this thing. I also once brought Buffy the Vampire Slayer into my linguistics work by talking about the treatment of different British accents and their association with stereotypes.
If anyone has more tips, please feel free to add them!

hi hi! what first inspired you to start conlaning? what are some tips you would give to beginners? this is not a call for help what LOL wdym /j/j/j
LOL hi!! thanks for the ask :)
oh boy this'll be a long one, sorry in advance,,,
If anyone has any other tips please feel free to add on!
So I think what inspired me to start conlanging was the dream I had several years ago that started the world of Amatɔqa. In the dream the citizens of the hidden city spoke their own language, though I couldn't recall what was a part of it, so at first I only made up a few words and phrases that are now obsolete.
Another thing that really inspired me to actually get serious about conlanging was the sounds of different natural languages that I found super fun to hear/say.
For example: the "x" sound in the Mandarin word "xièxie"; The sound of Russian; the throaty "kh" or "ch" sound (equivalent of [x] in ipa) of Arabic and Scottish Gaelic; and the list goes on!
As for tips for beginners, man that's a bit of a tough one! It'll depend on what the best-feeling approach would be for you! I'll give some ideas I have though:
The international phonetic alphabet has been my best friend!
If your first language is English, especially American English, you can start out small with this wikipedia article on the ipa sounds we have in English. It was really helpful for me because of how overwhelming the full ipa chart looked to me in the beginning
There's this youtube channel: Glossika Phonics that has a lot of videos on examples of the different sounds in the ipa. It's not always perfect but very helpful for tongue and mouth positioning!
There are some sites that have ipa readers in which you can test out different sounds.
There are also sites with interactive ipa charts that have sound clips of each
Other Tips!
If you like having book resources, I definitely recommend "The Art of Language Invention" by the one and only David J. Peterson. It has so much info on breaking down languages; sounds; grammar; writing systems; and all of that good stuff!
If you really wanna jump into using that conlang and constructing sentences, focus on grammar! I tend to focus on tenses and word order in the beginning because that's the hardest part. Once I figure out grammar, I can make more vocab and just jump into creating sentences!
Experiment experiment experiment! Mess around with putting different sounds you like together and try to figure out which combinations you want to exclude from the language; make random symbols, look at r/neography on reddit for really cool stuff; you can always change stuff later
Definitely look at other natural languages for inspo! What sounds good? What similarities/differences do they have with your first language?
---
Oh god I think i could ramble on forever but I hope this was at least a somewhat helpful start! I'm super open to chatting further if you have anymore questions or just want to share what you've made so far :)

Examples being Neil X Knives, or trying to ship a character who is lesbian like Roxy with Neil which I doubt would happen but better to say something cause you never know honestly with how the internet is.
☕ Nsfw is not allowed, you could perhaps make a few light jokes or something just nothing to vulgar and keep it vague please. Politics, Problematic asks, or anything along the lines are not allowed.
There's also what's been happening with Palestine and Israel, I am Pro-Palestine. Hopefully I'm wording that correctly, if not my apologies. I have an ooc account where I will spread awareness for that, reblogs and likes of the sort. My likes for this blog will most likely be full of stuff for support of Palestine as well, if you do not like that do block me. It's not that hard.
👾 I will not tolerate hate torwards anyone's gender, sexuality, race, or anything of the sort. Pro-Shippers and Com-Shippers, do not interact.
☕ Other than that please be respectful, and let's have fun!

I’m finally (momentarily) free and in desperate need of getting back into the art groove so I can work on personal projects I’ve been sitting on for nearly half a year.
So, I am opening up drawing requests for a very limited time (this week). I’ll chip away at them over my lunch breaks and as warm ups and cool downs before and after work. I won’t have time to do very many, so I’ll honestly just be picking the ones that inspire me most.
[EDIT: Okay, I have no idea how out of so few requests I’ve gotten, the majority of them have managed to pick out some of the specific things I said I wasn’t going to list because I didn’t think anyone would choose. So congrats, I guess? You guessed right but for the wrong thing.
I have never seen such niche requests in my life, but I’m not drawing those. If you send something that looks like niche fetish fuel from the depths of DeviantArt, I’m not drawing that. Sorry not sorry. I may be an NSFW artist, but it still feels gross to have these requests in my inbox. The people asking for these don’t even follow me, so they’re clearly just lurking for people offering drawing requests... Watch out fellow artists... there’s some real freaks out there.
I’ll take this time to add on other things I thought I wouldn’t have to, but probably ought to just in case.]
What I will draw:
Characters from pre-existing franchises (example: video games, anime, comics, etc)
Characters from fandoms I am and am not part of
Ships (within reason)
NSFW (within reason, may be posted to poipiku instead of Humblr if it doesn’t meet their guidelines)
Hybrids/Monsters
What I will not draw:
NOTP Ships
OCs
NSFW of underage characters (including non-sexual nudity)
Niche fetish fuel
Disney/Pixar characters
Cats*
TWST characters
Owl House characters
Steven Universe characters
A3 characters
Enstars characters
*To the person who wanted me to draw the cute lady cat from Puss and Boots, I’m sorry to say I have had to draw so many cats for work I’m actually just kind of sick of them, so I’ll have to say no to that request, I’m sorry TT  I’ll accept requests that may have cats as like.. a side thing, but I won’t do the request if cats are the main subject.
Request Guidelines:
Choose 1 to 2 characters and list them by name and what they’re from
Choose a style from below that you want me to draw it in
Any specifics you may have (example: specific outfit, bloody/injured, specific pose, etc.)
Send this information in an ask (can be anonymous or not)
Tumblr media
[Image text: Sketch Style - Style 1 or Style 2, Finished Style - Style 3 or Style 4]
Please note that the rendered styles will take longer to complete.
If I choose your ask to draw, I won’t reply to it until I’ve drawn it so I don’t lose your ask. I’ll tag all the drawing requests with “#silkflovvers drawing requests” so they can be found easily.
[EDIT: I’m just going to delete the asks that made me uncomfortable so the people who made the weird requests can remain anonymous. I’m only doing that because I honestly don’t want to deal with it any more. But if you’re the one of the people who sent them, you’re getting blocked, actually. I never want to see the content you’ve requested on my dash, ever.]

actually wait I wanna talk about something I've noticed that I was literally just talking about and I think has to do with like. why people don't draw female CCs with their actual features. If I'm not making any sense just ignore me
So boobs and curves have been sexualized to hell and back despite the fact that they're not sexual features of a person, and this has led to the idea that boobs and curves are sexual.
Which leads people to think that drawing these features is sexualization, regardless of how much a streamer might actually just look like that. (not to jump away from women and misogyny, but it's why you see people in this fandom throwing a fit whenever a male character is drawn with these features, because they see them as inherently sexual)
So what you end up with is a bunch of people who try to make female and female presenting streamers as curveless and boobless as possible, which often makes them look just really skinny and flat and not like themselves at all.
Not to say that a large part of it doesn't come from people refusing to draw streamers with their actual body types in the first place, but I'd argue that this is a part of it and they work together to make it worse.
areus you are 1000% correct on this. people are so scared to "sexualize" anyone that they refuse to draw women accurately, even though its not sexualizing to show that niki has boobs. drawing her to look like a skinny eighteen year old boy is nuts. its weird and in an industry where female streamers are already pressured to be thin and follow conventional beauty standards its honestly awful.
drawing grian or scar or wilbur with boobs is not sexualizing them. its going oh wouldnt it be interesting or funny if this guy who doesnt have boobs had boobs. isnt gender so weird and funny and arbitrary. now i do get annoyed with how often people are willing to draw mcyt dudes in dresses or with tits but have never drawn a woman in their life-- that does get to me. okay, you can draw boobs. why dont you draw them on someone who actually has them irl? i genuinely dont have an issue with the scitties stuff it just annoys me that people in this fandom would rather draw a guy in a dress bc haha* than draw a woman at all. drawing male characters with boobs is great though. imo its akin to drag in a weird way but i dont want to get into the dynamics of drag and gender parody rn since that's not the point of this ask. regardless its cool and people should do it if they want but they should also draw women.
again, im not calling anyone out or saying this is across the board the case, just saying it can be a trend in fandoms. like all of this, im not saying anyone is doing this on purpose. misogyny is pervasive and systemic, just like most forms of oppression. thats why my biggest advice is to just look at your own behavior when you can and try to notice trends.
anyway aside from that element of things i dont have anything to add, your insights are very welcome! body image is a huge issue in media and i think attempts to "desexualize" female streamers end up being incredibly harmful.
*the "man in a dress" concept, btw, can be incredibly harmful and is often a transmisogynistic stereotype. im not saying it is here but i would encourage folks to think hard about when that joke is just about being horny over some guy's thighs and when its about how comedic it is that person who looks like, for example, scar (who has what society deems as "masculine" characteristics) is wearing a dress. again, i dont think this is the case for much of this fandom as most of you just seem to like drawing dudes in dresses bc its fun, which is great, but watch out for this stereotype in other forms of media. if you want more info on this please feel free to ask.

Violett!!!!!!!! Hugs!!! Sorry for bothering you! Sorry not sure what time it is for you right now currently it's nearly eleven pm when I'm typing this 😅
This is probably the dumbest thing I'll ever say but um...I can't sleep because I'm trying to find a cool way to describe wind against the window...but I can't seem to think of anything...if it's alright could I maybe ask for a lil' suggestion from you? But please please please feel free to ignore I completely understand!
But I hope you're having a lovely day!!! Hugs!!!!
Hello 💎
That's not dumb, that's the mind of writer!! I'm 100% certain that anyone who reads this and writes will understand the reason you're still awake!
Wind against the window. Is it just wind or is there also rain? Wind against a window might make it rattle a bit within it's frame, but if you want a true sound to add a sensory experience you could add rain. Mixed with rain, it makes a sort of tapping sound that you can more easily describe. I like personifying the rain, giving it human tendencies to describe that noise. I can give you a couple examples I've written. This is from a Gilbert fic:
you take a moment to listen to the rain as it raps its knuckles against the wooden walls and taps its fingernails against the one stained glass window
A Leonardo fic:
Outside the rain pelts the glass window of his office, eager to say hello.
Gilbert again:
You turn your head to look at the window again, at the rain lashing against it
If you are just looking for verbs that describe that sound, a thesaurus is your best friend:
Tumblr media
And if you're like no, Violet, no rain, just wind, you can look at a few ways to describe that almost ominous sound of the window pane moving within it's frame:
Tumblr media
I hope this helps 💜

Genuine question: are you actually a witch? A friend of mine started practicing witchcraft, like protection spells and jars, and I’m not entirely sure if she’s being safe cause… you know she’s not experienced and doesn’t have anyone guiding her
Hey, my love!! This is a very broad topic and I could go on about it for hours, so I'll put my thoughts down under the cut. But before that, I want to get two things out of the way. While I do know some things about this and practiced a bit on my own, my knowledge and experience on the subject are limited so I can't really comment too broadly on it, but I will share with you some conclusions I've drawn over the time. And second, as a tldr, I want you to know that right now, there's probably absolutely no reason for you to worry, babe!! Ok, let's get into it.
Also, if anyone else sees this and would like to add anything, please feel free!!!!!
I'm not gonna sit here and eat shit about how it all it perfectly safe and whatnot, because that never applied to any field ever. Safe practice in mandatory no matter what you do. Like my favorite comparison. If you wanna learn to drive, you're gonna wanna start with a small car in an empty parking lot, not speed down hairpin roads at night, even though we both know which one sounds more fun.
Now, on to your friend! Beginner protection rituals are 100% safe. They usually include affirmations, or visualising - white light and connection to the earth, and stuff like that. It is absolutely safe, even if done wrong, like if by example, the practitioner is anxious. That will keep them anchored in reality and then simply the ritual won't work. All they'll gain is a little bit of experience and maybe they'll find it easier to relax the next time around.
Now, regarding the jars you mentioned. I don't work with them, I never had. I don't know much about them. But there's this basic principle that's present in most types of modern practices. The most important part of any ritual, spell or magic act in general, is the practitioner and their intention. Any other objects, whatever they are, are usually used to aid in the process. The practitioner is gonna "cast that spell" with or without the jar or herbs or whatnot, though some claim it may not be as effective. This is the common belief. As long as your friend knows what she puts in those jars - a quick little Google search will suffice, I don't think anything wrong can come out of it.
But this leads me to the most important thing anyone should keep in mind. Research. From what you told me, your friend isn't exposing herself to any kind of danger. But in case you're worried where things might go in the future, keep in mind that research is your best friend, no matter what anyone says. In case your friend ever gave you any reason to doubt her knowledge of what she's doing, make sure to remind her to thoroughly research everything before!!! (For example, a ritual. Maybe it sounded cool when someone else talked about it, but they didn't give all the necessary information, about the dangers, the precautions, all the steps that need to be taken, how difficult it is, stuff like that). If she ever gave you this impression, encourage her to look it up. To make sure she knows what she's doing. Properly researching anything witchcraft related WILL mention ANY possible dangers. Any practitioner must know what they are exposing themselves to. Any source that fails to mention this, is bullshit.
And one other thing abour research. Tiktok is not a reliable source of information. Never has been, never will be. I'm sure that there are some people that know what they're talking about, but as a whole, witchtok is toxic. Its plagued with kids mixing up different practices, making false claims, spreading false information, pretending to work with literal gods, encouraging others to do so as well without any kind of aid or guidance or info etc. Please, tell your friend to stay away from tiktok, at least until she is starting to become sure of herself. I cannot stress this enough. It's toxic and dangerous.
I hope I didn't scare you!! Witchcraft is a beautiful journey, and some of your best guides will always be your mind, your patience, and your research. Your friend doesn't need anybody, so many have walked this path before, all by themselves and starting out with 0 experience. The fact that you asked this question and wanted to make sure she is safe, is already more than enough!!! You're an amazing friend, and she is so lucky to have you!!!
Other than reminding her to read, read, read, and I recommend books instead of random articles on the Internet, and making sure your friend knows you're there for her no matter what, there really isn't anything you can do. You have to trust her. Trust her capabilities, her critical thinking and trust that she'll open up to you if she ever feels the need to.
I hope I answered your question and that I helped you maybe relax a bit!!! We can talk more about it, like if you have any other questions or just wanna discuss, I'm always here for you!! I try to answer to the best of my abilities and Google is always just one tap away!!! Good luck to your friend on her journey, and have a beautiful day!! 🥰 and don't worry!! ❤️

sometimes i think about how connected we are to each other in ways we couldn't possibly know.
someone is the owner of your cat's sibling.
how many people around the world are listening to the same song as you at the same time? or watching the same episode of a show?
someone in the world is probably wearing the same shirt that you are right now.
how many people have eaten bananas that came from the same tree?
how many people have sat in this airplane seat before?
and what about when you go hiking and you match your steps to the shoe print in the dirt of a person before you. who were they, and did they match their steps with someone before them?
we're all looking at the same sky and sun and moon and stars. who is looking up at it with you, miles and miles away?

okay I thought I should maybe share a few thoughts I have on Brahms and his relationship with music and a lil headcanon of mine + a little bit about the movie score as well! (please excuse my poor phrasing I feel like it's all over the place :'D)
Tumblr media
There are several points I wanna go over but first off I wanna quote his mother, Mrs. Heelshire "Music Ms. Evans, I don't know how Brahms would go on without his music. It's his world. [...] It gives him so much joy, I don't dare take it away from him"
this quote alone, if you want to give his mother any trust in her words which I certainly do, should already make you a bit more curious if you just focus on the music aspect while watching the movie which brings me to my next point of the instruments the most obvious being the piano (which I believe in the movie is either a harpsichord (with one key row) OR a Bartolomeo Cristofori due to the softer sound compared to a harpsichord but please don't quote me on that I'm no professional or a musician, if anyone knows more about that feel free to add :) ) and the violin!
so headcanon time: I'm pretty sure Brahms knows how to play the piano probably due to his parents making him take piano lessons as a child but to add on top of that I also think he knows how to play the violin as well since we see two of them in his children's room and one in his wall room
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that plus all the music sheets put up in his wall room just really give me the thought and feeling of him really, REALLY being into music, classical music at that he's listening to it, playing it! "It's his world" after all! I'm almost certain he plays his violin inside the walls every once in a while and that he's probably also really good at it as well! (he had years and years to practice, I'm like 100% sure he sounds like an angel playing it don't @ me)
here's another piano (+music sheets!)
Tumblr media
the violin (+music sheets!)
Tumblr media
more music sheets! :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this man literally surrounds himself by music and I think it's such a cool thing which brings me to the next point because I also think it's important to note that Brahms himself is named after the german musician Johannes Brahms which they have a little bust of him standing on the piano :) another nice detail!
Tumblr media
but that's not it! Johannes Brahms wrote the piece "Wiegenlied" (Lullaby) which is seen and played shortly (by Greta) in the movie
Tumblr media
and also is the most recurring piece of music in the movie's score if you pay close attention! for example you can hear it in the tracks like "Family Photos", "Come Play Pretty Greta", "The Phone Call and the Letter" (the whole beginning for this one!), "Out of the Mirror" or "Goodnight Brahms" (at the very end before the movie ends) it's basically Brahms' theme and I think it's so clever they worked this classical piece into the score in many different ways! I'd really recommend just listening to the score itself tbh to fully notice it! I know this has been all over the place but I just needed to get it out of my system since it's such an interesting thought to me :')

MCYT Demographic Survey Part 2 RESULTS
IT’S TIME!!!
Once again, thank you so much to everyone who participated! 1,654 people total responded to this - about four and a half times as many respondents as the first survey. It’s honestly incredible. I’m so happy the rest of you are as interested as I am in this stuff :D
The increased turnout is also why these results are being posted two days later than I’d intended. I want to give a HUGE thank you to my friend @quincepastey and my sibling @orestes-swimming for helping me out, and by helping I do mean they did basically all of the technical stuff for me, because my knowledge of spreadsheets was not up to the task. So thank you to Cupid for organizing all the data from questions 3 and 4 into something comprehensible for me, and thank you to Kal for making the charts! They are absolutely the MVPs and everyone reading this should go check them out. Thank you guys so much <3
Reblogs of this post are very appreciated. It would be awesome if the info about the results could reach everyone who submitted a response, so if you reblogged my first post about this survey, please consider reblogging this one as well!
For your convenience, here’s a link to the results of the first survey I did six months ago. Now - on to the results!
Question 1: What is your age range?
Tumblr media
Compared to the results of the first survey, we can see that things have changed a bit! Specifically, the fandom has shifted just a little bit older. The solid majority of the fandom is still in the 15-17 year old range, but it’s gone down from almost half to closer to 40%. Almost a third of the fandom are ages 18-20, up from close to a fifth six months ago. 21-25 year olds have increased from about 10% to about 14%. And the youngest segment, 13-14 year olds, have gone from almost 20% of the fandom down to 12% - the sharpest change of all.
Finally, nearest and dearest to my own heart, there are now 26 whole people in the fandom aged 26-30 and 9 people aged 30+. Old Squad is growing, folks. We are... the 2% 😎 Special shoutout to the person who said their 15 year old kid got them into the fandom. I hope you know just how cool you are.
These results are interesting, but it’s also impossible to say how accurate the data is. This survey and the previous one were only posted on my blog, and they only reached a wider audience through the reblogs of my followers. So do these changes reflect actual changes in the demographics of the fandom as a whole, or is it just that my followers (and the people who follow them) have shifted older? To try to avoid this bias in the future, I may reach out to some well-known younger bloggers and ask them to reblog the next survey I do so that I can reach a more even audience.
Question 2: What is your gender?
Tumblr media
Apologies for the small text, but there were so many unique write-in answers that I wanted to include them all. You may want to open the image in a separate tab for better quality.
In contrast to the age question, the gender spread of the fandom has remained pretty much the same. About half the fandom is still female, the nonbinary crowd has increased from 20% to 25%, 7% of us are male, almost 7% are genderfluid, and about 5% are agender. Just like last time, most of the write-in responses fell into the vague categories of either genderqueer or questioning.
No surprises on this one! The fandom continues to be overwhelmingly female and queer. Next time I think I’ll include genderqueer and questioning as options to try to catch some of those people into a formal category. All y’all are so valid, especially the person who wrote in their gender as “soup” <3
The results for questions 3 and 4 will be under a cut, because I don’t want to completely destroy people’s dashes.
Before I get into the last two questions, a couple notes. First, I want to explain how I came up with the list of creators, since a lot of people were either excited or disappointed by the fact that a few different people were on there.
On the last survey, this question was a write-in, and I had to transcribe and collate all the answers by hand to come up with the actual number of people who followed each creator. For this survey, I simply took the list that came out of the previous one and pasted it in! I also added a few people who no one wrote in six months ago but who are much more prominent now (Ranboo being the biggest example). So if you were excited to see your favorite small creator listed as an option, they were there because someone wrote them in last time! And if you wrote in your favorite small creator here, they’ll be an option on the next survey. The list is entirely crowdsourced and it will expand with each survey.
That said, the same also applies for more controversial creators. Specifically, I’m talking about CallMeCarson. Several people questioned my decision to keep him on the list - and to be honest, I considered taking him out. But in the end I decided to leave him in as an option for the sake of completeness and consistency with the previous survey. I want to emphasize that this is not me condoning his actions. But for the sake of the data, I felt that it was best to leave him in.
That said, let’s move on to questions 3 and 4!
Question 3: What creator(s) do you primarily follow?
Tumblr media
So, it’s harder to compare with the previous survey on this one, and that’s purely because on the previous survey I didn’t have the help I did here. The chart I was able to make for the results back in October was frankly trash. Also, the fact that I split “followed creators” into two questions - primarily and casually followed - definitely throws things off. However, we can still do a certain amount of comparison!
The most obvious change is Ranboo. He straight up was not on the previous survey at all - I think he’d been streaming for less than a month at the time. Now, about 55% of respondents listed him as someone they primarily follow. The Dream SMP itself has also jumped dramatically. Previously, about 5% of people wrote in Dream SMP. That has increased to over half. Quackity has gone from less than 2% to about 30%. Karl has gone from 4% to 30%. Phil has gone from about 8% to a little under 50%. The SBI have jumped from 11% to over 40%.
Techno has gone from about 50% to over 60%. Tommy has gone from 45% to over 55%. Wilbur has jumped from 43% to 55%. Tubbo has remained steady at about 38%.
Dream has apparently dropped some of his following percentage-wise, falling from 50% to about 35%. However, George, Sapnap, and the Dream Team itself have all jumped from 10-12% to almost 30%.
I’m not going to go over the rest of the list, because that would just get way too long. However, I will drop a link to the spreadsheets of data for this survey and the previous one, so anyone who wants to can do some comparison of their own!
Question 4: What creators do you casually follow?
Tumblr media
I won’t do as detailed of a comparison on this question, because there’s nothing to compare it to - this question wasn’t on the previous survey. However, it’s interesting to see how many more people follow Fundy, Nihachu, BadBoyHalo, Captain Puffy, Eret, Awesamdude, and Jack Manifold casually rather than as a primary favorite. Out of the top twelve, Karl, Quackity, Phil, and Tubbo are the only ones who don’t have a major discrepancy between the amount of people who follow them casually versus primarily.
I would be curious to hear people’s thoughts on why that’s the case! Personally, I would guess it’s a combination of each of their approaches to lore on the Dream SMP, the frequency and times of day that they stream, and the people they tend to make content with and be associated with by the fandom. I may go into that more later, but this post is already very long, so I’ll hold off for now. Here’s a link to this question’s spreadsheet for anyone who wants to take a closer look!
...And that’s a wrap! Good grief, this got long. Kudos to anyone who actually read the whole thing because I know my attention span would be challenged. I’m already thinking about the next survey - a couple people suggested that I add in questions about orientation and nationality, and while I want to keep the survey pretty tight in its scope, I am considering it. It would be even more data to process but it would be interesting to know!
I would love to hear people’s thoughts on these results! I’m only one person, so I know there’s interesting stuff I must have missed. Please, please feel free to reblog with your thoughts and observations! A lot of work went into this (both from me and from Cupid and Kal! Thank you guys again!), so I’m really hoping to hear what people think about it :D
I plan to reblog this and reply to some of the things people wrote in at the end, so stay tuned for that. And once again: thank you all for your interest in this project of mine <3 See you with another one in six months!
