A guide to John Finnemore (in particular his Double Acts) for the Good Omens S2 lovers, haters, and everyone in between (I promise, there's something for all of you!)

Found this in my drafts recently and honestly, I feel this is evergreen, so here y'all go:

As I mentioned semi-facetiously in my previous post, I don't care whether you loved or hated Good Omens S2- you're probably sleeping on John Finnemore. He's a super talented writer and while he's collaborated with other writers like Mitchell and Webb and Armando Iannucci before, I still think his best stuff is his solo stuff.

But where to start? Behold! I shall now recommend a different Double Act (that is, a different episode of his radio series of excellent half-hour two-hander comedies) for every kind of person who has reacted in literally any kind of way to Good Omens.

If you love stories about two people working on opposite sides in a conflict who over time break down each other's defenses to become valued friends despite the continued conflict between their sides, with some queer undertones: Unquestionably you want S2 E4, Penguin Diplomacy

If you loved Good Omens S2 because it's quiet, gentle, and romantic: S1 E6, Hot Desk

If you like quiet, gentle and romantic in principle but wish there was a bit more plot structure: Still Hot Desk

If you like quiet, gentle and romantic but watched Good Omens S2 and were like "this is quiet, gentle and romantic?!?!": DEFINITELY still Hot Desk

If you hate quiet, gentle and romantic and want something darker and more cynical: S1 E3, Red Handed

And, if you love the idea of a cliffhanger but also want the satisfaction of knowing there's an amazing ending coming: Wait on Double Acts and just listen to Cabin Pressure. He'll bite you for a whole slew of reasons, not just horny shit. Piss him off and he's getting in your face? Gnashing teeth. He wants to piss *you* off? Biting you while you're in the middle of something. Just minding your own damn business? You're never safe bitch.

It only gets worse if he's turned on tbh, but I DO have a bit of a hot take. Of course he loves digging his teeth in, leaving frighteningly severe marks all over you, and the rush he gets in licking up the pooling blood- But its not a one way street.

I think, under the (rather unlikely) circumstances that he's genuinely into you? He'd want you to reciprocate in the whole "literally ripping each other apart in every way imaginable" thing.

You're clearly weaker than him, and couldn't make a dent in him if you tried? He'd get off on just watching you try. Its cute, to him. Bonus points if you REALLY get into it. He appreciates the effort and gusto.

You actually stand a chance in getting him to hurt? Go fucking nuts, he'll let you. Yank his hair, step on his throat, choke him out, rip chunks out of him with your teeth, its all on the table. Being practically invincible, and having everyone else cower in fear around you gets really boring when you've lived that way for your entire existence. If you can physically manage to overpower him? He'll let you. (good fucking luck though asdfhksdfg)

On the same note, knives. Hoo boy.

I don't think he'd have the patience to like, trace up your body with the tip of his knife, or carve words into your skin or anything, but he would definitely get creative with it nontheless. Y'know how some people will do the whole "count while I spank you" thing? That, but with knife wounds. Sitting on his lap and everything.

And of course, he'd love holding that shit up to your neck as he pounds into you- genuinely coming close to cutting into the skin, pressing dangerously harder with every breath you take in. Who needs choking when he can have you desperately holding your breath all on your own?

On the flip side, he would definitely be into you teasing him with one of his own knives. Run it feather light up his abdomen, his chest, up to his throat, all he wants is for you to drive it down into him, and give him that weirdly euphoric release of agony. The anticipation is nice, but he'll never admit that out loud.

He wants that shit to hurt- like blinding pain. It sort of registers in his head like an orgasm would, since he doesn't exactly experience that level of pain very often.

HUGE bonus points if you actually have him vulnerable during it. (tied up, overpowered, ect.)

Tldr: this man is obsessed with pain. In any way, any method, any form, all of it. Doesn't even matter who's on what end.

Wanted to take selfies, now that I'm back at the library again. It was nice having February off, especially with all the surreal emotions I went through. Soon, I'll be back to work on the 4th friendship bracelet, as I wear the other 3.

Tried to wear my plaid glasses frames for at least the first pic today. They look nicer, but they don't feel as comfy. Oh, and I'm wearing this agate (?) slice necklace, which I bought at the craft fair, last November. I love how it's nearly transparent, so you can see all the little occlusions.

I've been watching a letsplay of "The Coffin of Andy and Leyley" and I love it.

Spoilers underneath ↓↓ because I accidentally wrote a multi-paragraph media analysis again

The game is a modern Gothic horror. The horror doesn't really come from any monster for most of the story. Instead it comes from the dread and tension of the story.

And it's also incredibly masterful character writing. They wrote a manipulative sociopath who's codependent with a guy that has extreme PTSD and some kind of protection complex, and they wrote them into a perfect sibling dynamic.

The whole incest thing, while seeming just to be fanservice at first, (and maybe it is,) actually adds to the Gothic horror element with that drop of "taboo sexuality". There's so many different kinds of tension going on and despite the game being almost entirely dialogue based, it's still manages to be incredibly riveting and suspenseful.

The dynamics between the characters are great, and every aspect of how the siblings act and think makes perfect sense with their backstory.

Ashley grew up in a neglectful home, in a world that is proven to be very rude. Like, the nicest people that are interacted with are literal cultists. On top of that, she's pretty clearly a sociopath or something of the sort. Being that she is a sociopath, and also was too neglected to ever really learn and adopt a moral compass, it makes sense that she would latch on to the one person in the world that actually values her, that being Andrew.

And Andrew is so messed up also. He's cursing by the time he's like ten which already isn't a good start, and then he got peer pressured into literally killing someone. And then after that, he literally makes a blood oath with his younger sister that blackmails him forever into staying with her.

The two characters were probably already hopelessly codependent on each other, but considering they were quarantined together for what is implied to possibly be more than a year (and also in an organ and blood harvesting facility, mind you) and by the time we meet them in story, Andrew is just about to get dumped by his girlfriend which is his only contact with another person.

That's just the start of the extreme circumstances.

Taking their codependence and leaving them in a box for over a year with each other being their only human contact while they are literally starving to death in a fake quarantine in the middle of a city full of the rudest people possible, it's literally no wonder that the neglected sociopath and the PTSD golden child are pushed past their limits and literally resort to eating someone just to survive.

The story is a tragedy, but it's more similar to "death of a salesman" than it is to any classic plays.

They start at rock bottom, starving in an apartment. And then they get handed two pickaxes, two headlamps, and a large serving of human flesh.

Backstory under the cut, for those who wanna read it :)

Ok so uh, his backstory is still being rewritten, due to the fact that the last 2 I did didn't make much sense, and he was too emo to me, soo.. Yeah, but his backstory now goes something like this:

once apon a time, a hedgehog scientist and a normal wolf lady fell in love ,they get married, blah blah blah, The hedgehog scientist starts to experiment with dark Gaia energy, testing how it affects the mobian body, (this taking place WAY before unleashed) but his reaserch is inconclusive, but just as he started losing hope,getting desperate , he did the unthinkable. He did the experiment on his (sence pregnant) wife, and it worked, just not in the way he expected it to, as it turned her into, what whould be deemed a monster (Basically a werehog but wolf, a werewolf if you will,) and instead of attempting to find a cure for his were-Wife,like a decent husband, He, basicly left her.

So now, the very much pregger single-mom is essentially hated and hunted by the village she once lived in, due to her new form(its in like,very late 90s- early 2000s-ish, and that village was isolated as hell ), so much so , its was to the point that people made folktales about her, (although folktales about beasts in that area were rather common ) and while that was happening, she basicly had to take care of this child, with little to no parental experience, and no one to help her, in the middle of the woods(and probably too stubborn to just give up or ask for help), she did her best to raise this child on her own, skipping a bit through the story...were-wife finds her deadbeat husband, and uh," accidentally" murders him...skipping through more of the story, her child is now, about, four, and she's been doing a surprisingly good job parenting. But remember the folktales? Well now people are claiming to have seen a beast in the forest, causing people to start actively hunting for said beast, and well, it was a bad few months to be a werewolf single mom cuz uh. She got confronted by said hunters, she defended herself(And probably killed one of them..), she was critically injured in the exchang, she retreated, they tracked her down and finished the job..Darn! Right in front of her four year old child! I'm sure that won't cause any issues in the future..

Time skipping a few years.

Kira is like 7 now and has no friends. Nor family (That he knows of :) )

And has just been living off the trash of the local village, small rodents, and the occasional fish, and the locals think he's some sort of creature or pest and children tease him for being weird.

And one day, he met a person,or rather, a fox. Briana fox to be specific (her name is still a wip and might change)an aspiring scientist and engineer who happened to be passing through the village. Blah blah blah, she takes this child under her wing

Yet another timeskip,later..

Briana, at this point, has been working on a project, a project to change the world. (Literally) observing the constant loop of interaction between sonic and eggman: eggman creates a deadly machine, sonic,+Co stop and destroy it, the world continues to constantly be destroyed and rebuilt, and in the eyes of Briana, its like a spiral of ants. Constantly circling in an endless loop untill the inevitable demise of the planet . And she's sick of it. So she devises a plan to enact whats known as the "Genisis wave", using the power of the chaos emeralds, and a machine of her creation. With the assistance of Kira, (whom she re-named "Kurai" after experimenting and geneticly modifying him),and others (Who are still being worked on,but might be revealed in due time )

Those assisting Briana in her hunt, were modified to be able to fight spasific people in sonics "Immediate friend group" (That of whom she just assumed were friends with sonic)

Kurai/ Kira was then modified to be able to go toe-to-toe with sonic himself, matching his speed with his spetilized Water Based "Air shoes" (shoes??? Boots???I don't know anymore), and semi elastic limbs (I wonder where did those come from..)
