Jack had been in Denver for about a week now, feeling shittier than ever. He was not even sure what the hell he was even doing there, maybe getting away from things... Things he couldn’t even pinpoint.

You on the other hand were in Denver because you lived there and went to school there. But besides that, you were on his same page. You didn’t know what the hell you were doing with your life. You weren’t even from Denver, you just had gotten a full ride to a small school. 

You were just trying to get through the days, all of them moving in a blur that meshed together.

“Have you tried any of the coffee here?” A random voice broke you out of your daze. 

You shook your head a little, your head feeling like it still wasn't in your body.

“No?”

“Huh?” You still felt like you were in a daze.

The curly haired man gave you a confused look, “The coffee? Anything worth recommending?”

“Oh…” You nodded, “Uhm I like the tea. I don’t really drink coffee if I’m being honest.”

He gave you a soft smile, “I don’t drink coffee either I was just... pondering I guess.”

You laughed, “Yeah that’s a way to put it.”

“Cherry-Hibiscus Iced Tea for Y/N!” 

“Well, whatever you get I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Have a nice day.” You smiled at the stranger before grabbing your tea and walking out the door heading down to the record store right next door. 

Y/N… Jack had thought that was a nice name. 

“Next in line!”

“Um yeah, can I get a Cherry-Hibiscus Iced Tea?”

You loved Saturdays just like any other person, the one day of the week where you knew yesterday was yesterday and tomorrow would be tomorrow. The only day of the week were days felt separated. 

You usually spend it doing all your favorite things. Today you allowed yourself to wander into the record shop that you hardly ever went into for the sake of your wallet. 

Today would be a good day, you just knew it. 

“Crystal Castles?” A familiar voice speaks from beside you. 

You look up at the stranger from the coffee shop, “Yeah.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever listened to them.” 

“I’m sure you have, just without knowing it. They’re having a moment on TikTok right now.” You shrug.

“Is that where you found them?” 

You shake your head, “No I just watched a lot of Skins growing up and had a damaging amount of internet access at twelve.”

You expect this to be the last of the conversation but it’s not because he proceeds to introduce himself. 

“I’m Jack by the way.” 

You nod, “Nice to meet you Jack. I’m Y/N.”

Now you really expect it to be the last time the two of you talk but he’s still standing in front of you and now you feel nervous, but not in a way were you want to tell him to fuck off.

“Do you live around here?” Jack asks and you give him a questioning look, making him retract his words, “I’m sorry that sounded creepy as hell, I’m just asking because I’m not from here I’m just like visiting… Tryna get my head straight. I’m from Louisville by the way.”

His nerves somehow ease yours and you find yourself answering his question. “Mhm, I go to school here. The small one in the next town over.”

“Cool, you like it? Is this where you’re originally from?” Jack browses next to you, keeping conversation. 

You look down at his hand, he has the exact same drink as you and you smile. “No and no. What about you?”

“I think that you’re probably the coolest person I’ve met in this state in a whole week.” Jack says.

You look back up from the vinyls, staring him straight in the eyes. “Have you ever tried chocolate shrooms?”

How ironic, given that you ACTUALLY hospitalized someone by harassing them to the point of attempting to off themself. And you nearly did it to three other people.

And before you say I’m fakeclaiming you, before you say I’m being ableist or lying about you or whatever, I have solid evidence of your lies.

And you frequently engage in NSFW content involving Brittany Robinson’s characters on your many RP blogs. Did you know she actually said SPECIFICALLY that she doesn’t want people doing NSFW stuff with her characters?

And what is it with you making all of the characters trans? Like. I get having representation and all that. I’m all for it. But… the way you draw them is almost always sexualized.

Yeah.

So there’s that too.

The point is, you can’t just be horrible to everyone around you, and then get all butthurt when they don’t just put up with your shit.

You can’t do horrible things to people and then get upset at them for responding to it.

You certainly can’t blame your hormones as an excuse for what you’ve done.

You want this to stop? Here’s what you can do.

1. APOLOGIZE. Give an actual apology, show actual remorse for what you did.

2. STOP. Stop posting about this (even vaguely), DMing people, talking about me and my friends behind our backs. Stop giving us shit to call you out for.

3. RESOLVE. Resolve the conflicts. Tell the people you told about us that you were lying (because you were). Admit any sort of responsibility for this instead of putting it on us for calling you out on the horrible shit you’ve done.

But no, you can’t take any responsibility because you’re afraid it’ll ruin your reputation among your friends. So I have a much easier option for you:

Leave our fandoms. Get off tumblr. Get a life in the real world, instead of spending every waking hour acting like you own this platform.

People remember what you do to them.

People don’t just let you push them around.

Hey!! Are you a proshipper? Are you an anti? Please read this post, I want engagement from as many people of as many different opinions as possible!

I have a question that I made a temporary sideblog for because I’ve gotten completely different answers depending on who I ask this question (pro vs anti ship)

I fundamentally disagree with a lot of the “talking points” on either side, so I’m not really sure which camp I fit into (and the one I’m assigned usually changes to the opposite of whoever I’m talking to). So I thought it’d be really interesting to see what people have to say about this. I dunno, I like talking, and discussing media. Talk to me about media.

I’ve sorted these into two sections: opinions usually grouped with “proshippers” and opinions usually grouped with “antis.”

Proship Opinions:

Censorship is bad.

We should not censor the internet and banning legal content here is fruitless. It just doesn’t work, and it takes away efforts from restricting actually harmful content.

Harassment is also bad.

Even when the person being harassed is objectively disgusting and vile.

There is never any excuse to tell someone to kill themself. This feels so obvious, why are we even arguing this.

Restricting the content allowed on some sites (AO3) is kinda stupid.

FF.net and Wattpad are living examples of what happens when you restrict written content: it still gets in, but this time completely untagged and with no warning.

I hate AO3’s current policy and I don’t use the site because of that, but the alternative is so much worse, especially considering they can’t afford the extensive mod team that would require.

Just use the block button.

Getting all bent out of shape in someone’s askbox because of their content is completely pointless. You just exhaust yourself and waste your own energy thinking about this person when they definitely don’t give a fuck what you, some bitch on the internet, think of their content.

The easiest solution for your own wellbeing is just to block them and move on. Then you can never think about them again.

Fictional content is never the same as the real thing, and it’s insulting to survivors to insinuate it is.

No children are harmed by the creation of fictional content. Comparing it to real CP is a slap in the face to real survivors.

The concept of “problematic content” being bad by design is kinda dumb.

There are ways to handle anything in fiction tastefully. Your story can cover topics of sexual abuse, murder, exploitation, etc. without being “problematic.”

The reason for the content’s creation and posting greatly changes how it should be viewed and how the creator should be treated.

I’m reminded of Alfred’s Playhouse. It’s so obviously a cry for help, but everyone ignored it because of the gross and shocking subject matter shown. The creator is a disgusting person, but that is unrelated to her creation of Alfred’s Playhouse, a representation of her own real experiences.

It’s… So obvious to me when someone is suffering and using art to vent or call for help. These people aren’t the people we should be talking about when we discuss the handling of sensitive topics in fiction.

Anti Opinions:

The things you create/enjoy completely change the way I view you as a person, fundamentally.

I don’t think you can be a good person and enjoy thinking about fictional children being molested.

I cut people off if I find out they secretly enjoy this content.

Including ex-friends. It hurts and I feel betrayed, but I was not friends with, nor will I ever be friends with, someone who enjoys (whatever).

I think people deserve to know if one of their favorite artists is secretly into something reprehensible.

If a big artist I like had a secret twitter where they posted incest porn, I would be pissed if someone who knew didn’t tell me.

AO3 sucks.

Specifically because of their policy on RPF in reference to (underage) streamers. If someone requests that the NSFW content featuring them be deleted, AO3 should delete it. If someone goes to AO3 and requests they take down a specific fic about them, AO3 should delete it. But they didn’t, and they don’t. So I don’t use AO3.

“Problematic content” should be criticized when it is handled in offensive ways.

There are ways to handle topics such as child abuse, sexual exploitation, etc. tastefully and respectfully to victims, but when creators fail to do this, they deserve to have their treatment of the subject pointed out.

SEE MY ABOVE POINT ABOUT CREATORS WHO ARE SUFFERING, vent art does not fucking count and pointing out the way someone handles their own real experiences in their vent art makes you an asshole.

Proshipping as I’ve seen it looks like such an unhealthy coping mechanism.

To my knowledge, “shipping” means that you enjoy the dynamic between two (or more) characters, typically in a romantic or sexual way. Enjoying the romantic or sexual dynamic between a minor and an adult you headcanon to be grooming them is… So beyond fucked.

This is 100% not my business and I’m never gonna tell someone this, but it’s an opinion I personally hold that I’ve seen attached to antis before.

My thoughts on pro shippers (Important Post)

I thought I’d make a post on this just to clarify my opinion so people can unfollow or block to their leisure, this is not a post inviting negative people into my comments or asks. This is also not a post advocating real world abuse, illegal activity, or inappropriate behaviour.

I won’t say I’ve had perfect opinions that everyone should listen to my entire life, because that’s blatantly not true, people change. And I obviously wish people on the internet were not as vindictive and cruel. For starters, during my first years in the undertale fandom, I of course had strong opinions encouraged by others to hate frans, and fontcest, and any denomination of pro ships. But that has clearly changed over time.

I’d like to make it clear there is a line as to which I enjoy problematic ships. I do not like non-consensual, I do not like underage, I do not like incest, I do not like abusive relationships, whether that is in fiction or reality. And I refuse to skirt lines and insist ‘oh I only like the design not the character’, or ‘oh I hate the creator I just enjoy the concept’, or make up some other bullshit excuse to fail to convince people that I deserve to be alive. Because ✨miraculously✨, what fictional characters and ships you enjoy DOES NOT REFLECT WHAT KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE.

It’s in the same vein as, if Person A likes the most depraved physical painful filthy fetishes, if at the same time they are a genuinely kind Human being that helps where they can and respects others without condition, it does not fucking matter✨💕 Person B is allowed to disagree and not have the same interests as Person A, but Person B does not then get to decide whether or not Person A deserves respect. Just the same way that Person A should not try to force Person B into liking what they like.

I’m not saying that people should be ashamed of what makes them uncomfortable because they’re insulting other people. This is not a post trying to coerce others into liking proships. You have complete freedom to disagree with others and avoid certain parts of your respective fandoms, just like I am by avoiding underage, non-con, or abuse. What I’m saying is that it is childish and ignorant to be outright threatening and disrespectful to people online for liking something you don’t.

There is no excuse for being a dick.

Now of course, if these people are actually harming others in real life, for example grooming or manipulating or any other form of abuse, by all means, tear their metaphorical testicles off and do whatever you can to ban their accounts and keep people safe from them. Because that is who they are as a person, harmful and dangerous to those around them.

Regarding children/minors/under 18s on the internet

Kids are being exposed to the internet way earlier than they probably should, likely because all the people that first started being exposed to it were already teenagers when it was invented. Keep in mind it was made public in the early 90s, meaning every adult using it now since the early days is in their thirties or twenties at the youngest, others currently growing into it.

There is not a single person on this planet who hasn’t experimented or tried to find communities to help them find safe places to learn about sexuality or adult concepts before they were 18. The reason 18+ accounts ask that minors do not interact is for a multitude of reasons, one being that if they are seen interacting with someone younger than them, even if it was an innocent interaction or someone in their late teens, they are liable to a heavy accusation of grooming. Another being they could likely be uncomfortable knowing minors see their content and feel like they have to censor themselves for this. Another is that it is very frustrating to try to block every single minor they see on their platform if they are an account with a high following. The point is, the internet has very easily accessible fucked up shit, and it is your own and your own responsibility only to avoid it.

Stop dehumanising kids. Stop dehumanising people you don’t know.

About that Tumblr Bullying

I know I said I was going to do a whole call out post about the bullying that happened to me. Complete with receipts. But a funny thing happened after I posted my little preview post yesterday. My DM’s blew the fuck up with people reaching out to me with, support yes but also, and unfortunately, their own stories of having been bullied. Like a lot of people.

That got me thinking, what happened to me is a drop in the bucket. This problem is much more prevalent than I ever would have thought and that is so disappointing and unfortunate. This is supposed to be fun. Grown adults are not supposed to act this way.

A hate post was made about me, and I was, in fact, clueless to its existence until my little anon friend gave me the heads up. A move that seemed desperate for my attention. I have decided not to give it to them. I have decided that they don’t get any more of my time, attention or energy.

I want to focus, instead, on those being bullied. Because this issue is way larger than just me. I can handle it. I have been through some shit in my life and come through it with flying colors. A little Tumblr hate isn’t about to break me. But I know not everyone has the same level of resilience, not everyone is in a good place, not everyone has a good support system filled with loving, supportive people. I know there are people out there struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, stress, and worse. I know there are people for whom toxic internet bullying could cause a major mental health crisis, or set off a depressive episode or hell, even just seriously mess with their self esteem. My inbox is full of stories of writers doubting themselves, their writing, their worth as a human being because of the atrocious things said to them (way worse than what was said about me).

I  want to do a couple of things here. The first is simply to let each and every one of you know that you are worthy. I know my platform isn’t that large, I’m no one special, but to those this does reach, I want to tell you that you do matter! You are worthwhile!

Secondly, I’d like to remind you that you own no one anything, not your time, not your attention, not a response to their messages, not an acknowledgement of their complaints (real or imagined). Literally, nothing.

My advice?

Surround yourself with positive people. Block the negative ones. You lose nothing by cutting toxic people out. Out of your Tumblr feed, out of your Facebook feed or even out of your real life. Sometimes, blocking and moving on with your life is self-care. There are people who thrive on drama and negativity. They can’t live without it, they feed on it. Don’t feed them. Cut off their access to you. Save your energy for those that make you smile, those that see the beauty in you (even when you don’t see it yourself).

When you have the energy/spoons for it, pay it forward every chance you get. Give compliments, prop up other people. You never know when that compliment might be the thing that turns an otherwise dull day into a bright one. And bonus, you’ll feel good about it too! I believe that what we put out in the universe comes back to us. So, send positivity out there every chance you get.

Engage in aggressive self-care. Block out time for yourself. Do the things that you enjoy, eat the foods that you love, allow yourself time to watch that TV show that makes you happy, even if the laundry isn’t done. Take a hot bath, go for a long walk (if you’re able), draw, write, paint, do whatever it is that feeds your soul. And don’t apologize for it, or feel guilty for doing it. Your happiness counts. You count!

If you are struggling, please reach out to someone, talk, tell someone. Don’t keep it all inside, let it out. I know that can be hard sometimes, but it’s crucial for healing. And let’s face it, most of us have unresolved trauma of some sort or another.

The last thing I want to do here is give a little practical advice. I want to offer some tips for how to lock down your account to better protect yourself against being blindsided by anon hate. Here they are:

This is the most obvious one. Turn off anonymous asks. To do this, go to “Account” (little gear icon in upper right hand corner on mobile) and scroll down to “Allow anonymous asks” and toggle it off. <- I did this, because I had witnessed others getting anon hate. I thought it was enough. It wasn’t. Someone determined to stalk, bully and harass you will find another way. So keep reading.

Take away the ability for an anonymous, fake, blog to message you. Yes, you can make it so that only blogs you follow can DM you. To do this, go to “Account” and click on “Account settings” then click on “Messaging”, here you can choose who can message you, pick “only Tumblrs you follow can message”. <- Wish I had known that sooner. Never occurred to me that someone would make an entire fake blog just to send me hate.

Next, if you want, you can limit who may comment on your posts. Go to “Account” then to “Account settings” and click on “Replies” choose “only Tumblrs you follow can reply” <- This is tricky for me, because the whole point of Tumblr is interacting with new people/content. But if you are being stalked, harassed and/or bullied, I would recommend taking this extra step.

This is just a privacy issue, but if you don’t want others to know when you’re active, go to “Account” then “Account Settings” and click on “Privacy”. You can toggle to turn off “Let others see that you’re active”<- Not really going to keep anyone from bullying you, but if you have anxiety about people being mad if you don’t respond when they can see that you are active, then it’s a good thing to deactivate.

If you’ve taken the above steps, then you are safe from anon hate in your asks, your inbox and the comment sections of your posts. <- someone can still create a fake blog and make a nasty comment in a reblog of your post, but at least they have to show their nastiness publicly.

Since this has come up again I gotta say I disagree with you about the use of the word. I think it’s bizarre to call it a slur that is extremely offensive to use and then also say it’s been “defanged” in the same breath. I also think it’s strange that I’m sure I have seen you reblogging posts about why people ID with slurs but then you also say that use of slurs is just “edgy” and “white noise”.

I assume you’re not really interested in a good faith discussion about it but the gist of it in my opinion is as follows.

1. Many people have had these slurs weaponised against them and using them in a casual context or self-identifying with them allows them to reclaim them in a positive way and take away the power of them. I.e. this isn’t a scary word because it was shouted out a car window at me or used by the person who assaulted me. I am not scared of this word. This word is who I am and I am okay with that.

2. Some people find that words commonly used as slurs feel more true to their experience than the polite, socially acceptable versions of the words. This can be for a variety of reasons but one I’ve commonly seen is that they feel as though the softer word is shying away from how they identify rather than facing it head on.

3. It can be a way to make people pay attention and get your point across. This can be wielded politically like in protests or pride parades or in pseudo political protests like online calls to action. As in, “the people who hate me call me a [slur]; well, this [slur] has something to say”.

4. Some people feel rubbed the wrong way by rainbow marketing (I.e. big corporations putting rainbows on things in June and talking about how inclusive they are while not actually doing anything meaningful to support the community and sometimes actively working against them in other ways, purely in the interest of getting the gay dollar) and like to self identify with words that squeaky clean corporations are never going to sell back to them.

This is not an exhaustive list, but it covers a few of the common reasons that I have seen. And it’s certainly not just the f word for gay men that gets used this way. Consider Alison Bechdel’s Dykes To Watch Out For, a piece of lgbt pop culture so entrenched that the term “the Bechdel test” is commonly used in media criticism. It certainly wouldn’t have been improved, in my opinion, by being named “Lesbians to Watch Out For”.

I think I was pretty clear that a word can be defanged in one context and remain a harmful slur in the other. The crux of my issue with using that word is that I do not know how it is being used when a stranger says it to me. As I have mentioned before, I live with two gay men, one of whom does use that word, and when he does it I am comfortable with it because I know him and I know the context in which it is being invoked.

I do not know that context online and I am not going to assume a stranger on the internet is a safe community member just because "tumblr is the gay website." First of all, it isn't, and I don't make a habit of assuming strangers' sexual orientations without strong contextual reasons to do so (e.g. gay bars, and even there it's not a guarantee). Secondly, people can be members of the community and still use slurs inappropriately.

I do not feel that everyone who is using slurs on tumblr is reclaiming them in any meaningful way. It looks much more like this is the cool new word, like a bunch of second-graders who just heard the word fuck for the first time. This is why I talked about it being defanged. My reference to white noise was because the word "gay" has been overused so much on this website (e.g. "gay little [x]") that it barely means anything anymore. It's practically a filler word. The alternative used to be "queer," but now that's been overused and sanitized because it was adopted by the mainstream and corporations found it. People picked up on "fruity" for whatever reason, probably because it's a bit old-fashioned and not used much by serious homophobes anymore, and also just sounds kind of funny. And that was quickly overused, the way memes are run into the ground.

But here's the thing: there is no word that is safe from rainbow marketing. There isn't. Maybe they would never use f*ggot now. Give it time. If you want to outrun mainstream society, you will always be hopping to a different word. Especially with the internet. People become desensitized very quickly to memetic language, simply due to saturation.

Tumblr users did not reclaim f*ggot. They turned it into a meme. They did the same thing with the limp wrist. And yes, gay people do these things with each other. In private. In gay spaces. Not on the public internet. Even if tumblr were a gay website (it's not) content from this site ends up on twitter, instagram, tiktok, and facebook. I do believe the use of slurs on this website is edgy. I won't speak for individuals, but as a trend it is at least partially motivated by being cool and getting clout. My point in saying it had been defanged was it was no longer accomplishing its purported goal of reclamation. Some of the reasons you listed for using slurs--facing things head-on etc.--rely on shock factor, and therefore have a naturally limited lifespan. People still say "queer as in fuck you," but when queer is the standard academic term and has been adopted by mainstream institutions, does it really hit the same way?

Each slur has its own history. I'm a fan of Dykes to Watch Out For. I attended a Dyke March last year. I am personally uncomfortable with f*ggot because unlike other slurs, I have personally experienced this one being used by homophobes. I think it was fairly popular in the United States in the 2000s, so many people have this experience, and therefore it is still more strongly associated with homophobia. This is still true outside tumblr, regardless of the defanging I observed here.

I am concerned about the eagerness of some to use slurs and engage in "ironic" homophobia (e.g. limp wrist) at a time when many countries are facing such a serious homophobic and transphobic backlash. I am concerned about slurs for the LGBT+ community in particular, because the idea of "who can reclaim them" is more fluid than with racial slurs and many other slurs. Someone can be raised in a homophobic environment and be a homophobe who calls people f*ggots, then come out as gay themselves and continue calling people f*aggots but it's "okay" now, whether or not they ever had any self-reflection about it. I am not accusing specific people of following this exact path, but this pattern is responsible for a lot of internalized and intracommunity homophobia.

I do believe that reclaimation is a conscious, active process. A lot of talk about reclaiming words on tumblr sounds like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy: I didn't say it, I declared it.

I hope I've explained my opinion a little bit here. Contrary to your assumptions, I am interested in a good faith discussion. The person who asked if they could call me a f*ggot was not.

I’m so sick and tired of all the shit talk straight women constantly get on radblr and I hate not being allowed to talk about it with being falsely accused of total bullshit. I'm not interacting with so called 'radblr' so much also because of what I've read these last 4-5 years. They succeeded at pushing out a lot of women by creating their little toxic echo chamber, and by the number of silent followers I get + several people who sent me asks asking to not publish if it wasn't anonymous, it's obvious something is seriously wrong.

i’m burning a cd to listen to in the car (i typically use my phone w bluetooth, but oftentimes it disconnects. and i’m a good driver so obv i just have to like continue driving instead of fixing it. and it feels somehow so humiliating to drive in silence when i don’t want to.  so its nice to have some backup cds for when bluetooth fucks up) and it reminded me of some post i saw awhile ago gawking at some comment a child/teen put on the internet of not understanding how people burned cds. it was obviously posted with the intent of ridiculing the child/teen for not knowing, and making everyone who does know how to burn a cd feel old.

and i hate those kinds of posts. like damn. we do get older? the stuff we know does become a sign of our age? that’s how times supposed to work. it’s weird as hell behavior to act like the next generation needs to know all about the shit you remember. let them make their own memories. like that’s no reason to shit on kids of teens or whatever who don’t know about the stuff we do. it’s also just like, not a productive goal to make people feel old or whatever. it’s just sorta bad news all around.

the people that i’ve known (not talkin abt any of my close friends now or anyone here) that would be like “damn i feel so old for remember VCRs?!?!?!?” or whatever are the same people who don’t give a damn about the technology that came before them, and yet they expect the people younger than they are to give a shit about the stuff they know.

and i think theres this big disconnect too. like new technology isn’t always what kids are exposed to. when i volunteered in a daycare place around 2012-2014 they still only had a VCR connected to a CRT. new technology is expensive, it takes awhile for things to be completely converted over into whatever is the newest technology. i’m sure there’s a lot of kids growing up with new tech, but i’m also sure there’s as many kids growing up with old tech -- even if that old tech is only at their daycare’s, or their grandma’s. or whatever else. and i could think of more examples than this! like i remember in 2019 picking up some video games at the library, and this family with little kids (think between the ages of 3 and 9) were picking out wii games... and wii games only.

like idk. i grew up in the early 2000s. the gamecube/xbox/and ps2 were being sold... but like i had a n64, nes, and sega genesis as a kid. the nes was given to my mom from my uncle, cause she liked playing the original mario bros, and ironically the n64 was also given from the same uncle, cause he knew my mom liked the nes and thought she’d like the n64. the sega genesis meanwhile was my dad’s lol. all of them were older than the current generation and that’s normal as hell.

but like it’s also normal as hell to not know about these things. everyone’s exposed to different things, there’s no obligation to understand the things of yesteryear unless youre interested in them or just so happen to be exposed. it’s not bad to not know something that by all means is outdated and before your time.

it’s just sorta a mess. i hope people observe the world around them more thoughtfully. i don’t care about some kid posting about not knowing how CD-Rs work. they’re allowed to not know that. but all the same, there could be a ton of kids younger than them that adore making mixtape CD-Rs.everyone has a different understanding of the world around them, and a different level of access to different things. it’s complicated and as much as technology is somewhat linear in it’s cycle of evolution, the cycle of adopting said technology as well as access to it is not linear.

Dick Grayson was the first robin. After learning more about him the less I know why he exists. He’s childish and funny. Probably so Batman wasn’t lonely but couldn’t influence Batman in any way. But then he stopped being that so idk. Batman copycat? But slightly likable but only because his friends make him better.

Jason Todd was hated on for being a kid so he got all these “unlikable” qualities (poverty, drug addiction) and became an unlikable person. He’s alright.

Tim Drake was made to be relatable to a certain audience and it shows.He only perpetuates the Batman industry that should’ve ended years ago.

Damian was created to perpetuate the bloodline to cater to nepotism. But i think they chose Talia so Batman could take him away from her. But it backfired. If we focus on caring about Talia we can expand the conversation about a non white woman again.

Barbara Gordon was created to be a FUCKING love interest. Then to cater to feminists but (mostly) the only the way sexists know how to. But after getting fridged; A wonderful writer made her into an advocate for disabled (handicap). Intersectionality got more supporters to care about her, which is deserved. (Sidenote: Babs reminds me of my very cool competent older sister. So she also unerves me but like in a good way if I wasn’t a younger sib)

Duke Thomas is pretty relatable for a black teen; and he also joined a movement for children taking back their rights (self defense). And introduced the WAR characters which is nice to focus on minority stories again.

Cass is THE asian american diaspora. And her rewritten stereotypes is such a cool way to humanize caricatures AMAZING.

Stephanie Brown was a love interest. Taken down to boost up Tim. Too impulsive to be Robin and left out of stories. Those are the bad stuff. The good stuff is that she’s like Jason ( positive). Stands up against her abusive father. Still sorta close with her mother. Cass’s friend. Okay i lied. There’s one more bad thing about Steph. She’s also like Jason (negative). (And it makes me scared to talk about it because i think there’s some kind of internet thingy about r*df*ms which I don’t agree with because of it’s white superiority centric stuff 😓).

So it’s between Dick, Tim, Steph, and Jason. Downsizing to Tim, Steph and Jason because Dick and the Teen Titans are great. Downsizing to Steph and Jason because Tim came out as bisexual which is ironic but also serves the same reason why Kate was retconned to be lesbian, because it’s a fuck you to the homophobes from the Batman controversies of the past :)

I genuinely believe Steph and Jason could be better, but it’s tough. It’s really tough. I’m downsizing to just Steph because Jason’s relationship with Bizzaro was sweet, and he could have friends like with Rose and Artemis (is she allowed to use that name? Lol) and sorta is already.

Steph isn’t really- i mean, idk. She doesn’t pull in new characters or dynamics, she doesn’t have a narrative relating to Gotham besides her resolved daddy issues which were resolved. The issue could be solved if she joined her own team? Like why is she so lonely bro. She could easily be a good character.

Coming back around to say Dick becoming the new Batman copycat or just whatever self insert writers wanna say, it’s a huge issue. Honestly, the amount of vagueness he is, is annoying. Genuinely goes back to the root core issue, Batman. Dick is barely his own person. All the changes isn’t even because of him anymore. He was taken away from his own backstory just to be for Batman. What’s the point in pursuing our passions when none of it even matters?

Nobody cares who you are unless you’re a pre-established big name, you can’t build a following because social media represses actual talent and creatives to shill corporations and spread outrage, YouTube represses good, hardworking people for the tiniest of infractions while playing favorites with megacorps and drama-focused influencers who are allowed to do whatever the fuck they want, and the smaller you are the more powerless you are to stand up to them, the creative industry is a goddamn trainwreck that would rather reboot everything and replace us with AI, and the general public sees entertainment as nothing more than mindless, interchangeable junk food to consume and then forget about.

The only way to make it is to already be successful or wow everybody right out of the starting gate with inhumanly beautiful artwork or animation or a fully-playable, genre-revolutionizing game with gorgeous visuals that either makes AAA tentpole games look like shovelware or has some pretentious faux-philosophical edge because “muh wokeness” or some stupid shit, I don’t know. I don’t play indie games since most of them are just the same exact fake-retro Atari graphics or depressing, pretentious arthouse shit trying to court the Last of Us/Life is Strange audience. Just like how every indie pilot is nothing but setup for potentially exciting stories and adventures but never gets to the actual story part and is mostly just bait to lure in the Hot Topic/Tumblr sexyman crowd and the “ZOMG STORY DRIVEN DRAMA KARTUUNS” who endlessly suck off CN and Disney XD and want more shows in the exact same vein and even visual style. Parker/Stone and J*stin R*iland are lucky to have even been born decades before the turn of the millennium, because NOBODY would ever give Jesus vs. Frosty or Doc and Mharti a passing glance in a post-Hazbin world.

“Indie’s the future!” they all say. “These people succeeded without studios and so can you!” Too bad most of us are just regular people with no cash who live in the middle of nowhere and can’t move out or even hope to compete with all the big names, and with the way studios keep treating artists, pretty soon the days where you could just post a goofy little MS Paint animation on Newgrounds and work your way up from there will be over since all the professionals are forced to resort to independent projects and crowdfunding since the asshats up top need their precious green stuff. We were supposed to be the new generation that would succeed them in the future, instead they’re the ones replacing us because studios only care about money, while NG is just going to be overpopulated and even harder to break into because every other site is locked in this constant contest to see who can fuck up harder and all the top names from there have already monopolized the market for themselves. The rags-to-riches underdog story is completely dead because you can’t do anything when you have nothing, and the playing field has been leveled to unreachable heights.

I don’t even know why I’m bothering to type any of this shit out considering not a single soul on God’s green Earth follows this blog or cares about anything I have to say or even knows I exist. I’ve been posting shit to this accursed internet for over a decade at this point and it’s all lead to jack fucking shit. I’m nothing but another random icon in this vast ocean of garbage and there’s no way out of it. Nobody cares and nobody will help you because everybody’s too busy going goo-goo eyed over the same uber-popular e-celebs who are lucky to have this amazing unteachable talent and connections to important people while the rest of us are just sniveling insects, ignored at best and stepped on at worst, especially if you’re a writer who can only just barely draw. It doesn’t matter how clever, original, or thoughtful your work is, if there aren’t any pretty pictures attached nobody gives a shit. I try and I try and I try and yet nothing ever works.
