Tenya Iida x Reader
" No need to worry "
I have testing anxiety so here we are me writing this junk and you reading it. Remember not to overwhelm yourself study, sleep eat, you'll do great!
Tumblr media
Tenya was a man whose mind was literally like a machine, he tried his best to keep everything to a strict schedule, he had set times to study, eat, sleep everything. Your rather unfortunate sleeping and eating habits worried him. A few months ago you collapsed during training because of exhaustion and lack of nutrition. This resulted in a rightfully worried boyfriend. He made you stick with his schedule for at least a week to ensure you are and slept properly. You had to admit it was nice to be around him more but old habits are hard to break. Exams were soon and coming along with that is the stress of keeping up, admittedly you were top 10 within your class but that only added to the pressure to maintain that.
Zoned out, in your dorm starting at a math worksheet you feel a hand on your shoulder "You look like you're confused" Tenya says now sitting next to you. "Shit sorry, I didn't hear you. I just zoned out it's okay." You say sitting up and placing your hands back on your work. Tenya walked away grabbing a paper bag not speaking.
He picks up the many cans of energy drinks, scratch paper and small snacks wrappings littered around your work space. "When was the last time you ate, properly." He says looking at the bag of trash, with little to no trace of any real food. "I-uh don't remember.." you say looking down placing your hands in your lap picking at your nails. After a few seconds of awkward silence you picked up you pencil looking back at your homework and notebooks.
Keeping your eyes open was harder than you'd like to admit. Tenya looks at you not a look of disappointment like you had thought but rather concern. "I don't think you need me explaining how bad that is." He says his voice is full of concern as he places his hand towards you signaling to you to get up, you grab his hand feeling an overwhelming wave in dizziness stumbling falling towards Tenya. He Catches you cupping your face "I'll make you some food, go sit down. No more work for tonight."
You look at him a pouty look just as you go to protest his offer he places a finger of your lips "Your great, at everything. You're stressing out and overthinking all of this, that's why it feels more complicated. So sit down and let me make you something" You look at him small tears forming in your eyes, feeling Tenya's hands on your face. You look away from his gaze not wanting him to see you cry. "Hey now, no need to hide your face" you feel his thumbs wiping away your tears. "I- don't want to lose my spot and fall behind" you say voice shaking leaning into his touch.
After a few minutes you sit on the bed looking at the floor as Tenya uses the microwave in your dorm to make you a semi-proper meal. He looks over at you picking your nails. As he walks over he finds one of many of your little fidget toys placing it in your hands along with a water bottle placed next to your bed. "No more studying, it's late. Just eat this then try to sleep okay?"
He walks away returning with your food. "You didn't have to do all this I would've been fine" you say looking up at him food in hand "That's the biggest lie I've heard all day" he spits rather coldly but can tell he's genuinely worried about you. After you eat your food you can still feel Tenya's concerned gaze lingering. "You've eaten and had water, so I think it's best for me to go-" he's cut off by you wrapping your hands around him "h-hey! Please let go" he says trying to pull you away
"I know I've already caused you problems but please stay" you say looking up at him, it was rare Mr. Class Rep ever did anything like this. It's not like your relationship was a secret he just didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea. Despite his protest eventually he agrees to stay. He sits on your bed, you next to him. You place your head on his lap causing a small but sudden flinch. "If you are that worried about your grade you can always ask me for help, I don't want you doing this it's unhealthy and you know that very well. My love.. I love you so rely on me " you feel your face go warm sure if the fact you probably look like a flustered mess he had always tried to be less uptight with you and feeling just how much he meant his words was comforting. "I- love you too" You look at him sitting up and placing a kiss on his lips then cuddling into him feeling yourself drift off.
This was shorter than I wanted but whatever. Requests are open! I try to write when and where I can but I got exams tomorrow 💀

we can glean some key facts about food in the Midgar undercity from the snatches of conversation we pick up from street vendors: food in the slums is hearty, inexpensive, and loaded with fat- the kind of dense, calorie-rich, and readily available meals necessary to endure the brutality of life under the plate, but nothing to suggest a more well-rounded kind of nutrition... the slums may be something of a food desert
the overreliance on spice and sweeteners indicates this, too- overpowering flavors help mask the lower quality of the ingredients being used
there's even a detail about a former undercitizen occasionally getting cravings for the kind of food they ate before moving topside- life in the food deserts of the slums leaves you addicted to salt, sugar and corn syrup in a way you never fully shake off... which is just how Shinra likes it, i'm sure

Hello!! It’s such an honor to find myself in your ask box. Your work actually helped inspire me to make my own tumblr and AO3! Thanks for giving us such wonderful content! :D <3
My question today: How did Akaza retain his spot as an upper moon when he has such a low appetite? Muzan, Douma, and pretty much everyone else keep insisting that eating lots of humans is essential to building strength. Poor Kyogai even got booted from the ranks once he couldn’t bear to eat any more. But despite Akaza’s apparent inability to eat nutritious women and his preference to gain power through training, he was allowed to keep his spot and even given a special pardon from Muzan. Why do you think this is? Is the whole gaining-strength-mainly-through-training thing an ability that is special to Akaza? Could that be interesting enough to Muzan for him to forgive Akaza for having a weak stomach? Or is this just straight up favoritism because he’s loyal and does good work? I’ve always been confused at how he was able (and allowed!) to keep up with his fellow Moons, because they certainly all eat plenty.
Keep up the good work we appreciate you lots!! :D
Tumblr and AO3?? That is an honor! Thank you for joining the rocks I live under on the fandom internet, I hope you have fun! And thank you for your interesting posts thus far!
As for our favorite gym bro Akaza keeping his spot among the Upper Moons, he perhaps started with way, way, way more Muzan Juice than someone like Kyogai did. Akaza's always had such a focus on training as a means of getting stronger than I think it really does have as powerful an affect as Nezuko's sleeping, for as Daki noted, Nezuko's regenerative abilities were on par with or even faster than Upper Moons. However, we don't know that Akaza lacks an appetite in the first place. Unlike Nezuko he's never had a reason to hold back from eating someone who looks appetizing, and especially in his early days, I'll bet he ate plenty. However, overtime, Akaza has put more faith in his own strength and training, and sets his sights on someone else with a similar attitude, Kokushibo. Kokushibo likes this spirit in Akaza and let him live after he lost their battles (instead of absorbing him like he did with other loser demons), like professional courtesy between martial artists. Kokushibo's problems with Akaza are in his professionalism, not with his lack of eating humans. He's recognized Akaza as having potential as a worthy opponent, whether or not Akaza eats a lot of humans, because by this point, Akaza just doesn't need to. He's not like some lowly Lower Moon who needs to try to do something as crazy as eat over 200 people at once before he's even got a chance of challenging an Upper Moon.
Douma is more like our resident health supplement salesman and I'll bet he's never touched a dumbbell. Although Douma wholeheartedly believes that women are more nutritious because their bodies can support the growth of other human beings, that doesn't necessarily mean he's right. Also, what's most nutritious and beneficial to one demon might not necessarily be the sort of nutrition good for another demon's needs, like who knows, maybe the Snake Demon didn't just enjoy the flesh of babies, but they were easily for her to digest or something. The one common rule is that the stronger and healthier your food the stronger and healthier it'll probably make you, and if you're a strong enough demon to catch and eat a Pillar, that'll probably make for a really good protein shake.
See here for much, much more thought on how eating humans actually works and benefits demons, but even though this is the normal pattern of how demons get stronger, I don't think Muzan cares if Akaza isn't eating humans so long as he's strong anyway. It's annoying that Akaza is such a sissy when it comes to women, but like you said, it probably is straight up favoritism because he’s loyal and does good work. You know, except for that lack of blue spider lily results. Akaza's still an easier underling to have around than Douma, even if Douma is technically stronger.
Could Akaza overtake Douma, and perhaps even Kokushibo if he chowed down more on people, like the Pillars he's killed? While this could certainly help, by this point he's developed his own constitution to be so oriented toward physical training that perhaps digestion isn't even his strong suit (unlike Douma, that show-off who doesn't even need to use his mouth). It make not be that he can't eat, like how Kyogai found his limits, but it just takes more energy than its worth when he could better spend that on training. As for Akaza's eating preferences, he know he likely avoids eating women, and I could see him punching the head off some guy abusing his wife and then nonchalantly eating that guy while the wife runs off screaming, but what I truly wonder if he would had eaten Kyojuro is given the chance. It may be that he'd have seen this as a way for strong people he knew to live on, like mementos of their fights (but this feels like a very Douma style of looking at it), but on the other hand, he may have had too much respect for them and professional courtesy to have found them appetizing. Tanjiro, though, yeah, he'd probably had taken a big bite out of his brains just 'cause he hated him. Not that he'd gain much from eating a weakling like that, though! Eating people of that caliber is probably just like staying hydrated, not a proper meal. But again, this is all guesswork on his actual eating habits!

Sharky here again. HII YOU TOO VANNN!! JADKAWEKAWJE YES I KNOW. It was long but not that long! The beach was really really close to the aquarium, and so did the place where we got icecreams, so we walked there, sat down and ate our icecreams and just.. I don't know. Chilled? (no pun intended) It was really nice. We took photos though it mostly was her because my phone is barely surviving at this point and it's camera is already none existant LOLL. (I love jellyfishes too!!!!!)
AND I KNOW. I just. I thought about what you said about food and going to nice places that give us space to talk! and my process of thought literally was: If we're eating, we have to get food and dessert because there's nothing better than getting food and dessert!! and there's also nothing better than icecream! honestly just food alone is enough to make me go feral, imagine having a date and eating in said date as you talk and watch fish and sharks and all kinds of pretty creatures swimming around and being tremendously cute. I ALSO ADORE SUSHI. And hey- she's.. supposed to be completely american, but I just texted her asking and she has an asian grandma?? 😰 VAN WH-
(also hello I also love noodles and soups in all their forms??? it would be so cool if I was asian please but- sadly I do not think so as I am completely latin/hispanic but sTILL INTeRESTING. We shall test this theory!!)
Also.. uh, as a poor somebody who still struggles with some words in english-- what does niche mean? I googled it and it said that it was a synonym for comfortable. Does it mean that.. sharks are comfortable?- and yeah!! she said so. I told her about how they give birth and she said she didn't know that there were so many kinds of sharks and differences between them when it comes to reproduction? said she also never had given so much thought to the fact that sharks are actually fish and not mammals, and the fact that they actually hatch eggs- which led me to explaining that do they not only hatch eggs, but there are certain kinds that are able to keep their eggs inside them for protection without having any direct connection for nutrition like humans do with, for example, an umbilical cord. The egg is perfectly equipped to nurture the lil' baby shark in all ways. But they stay in their egg, inside of their moms till they hatch!! which is really cool if you ask me, like having a backpack where you can put babies inside and it also feeds them while protecting them and you can take it anywhere? yeah, that's how it feels LOL.
vAN PLEASE DON'T SAY THAT I SWEAR I WAS. I WAS FUCKING SHAKING FOR MOMENT PLEASE AMNDWJEWENJAWED. I'm a disaster and this clearly shows JDAKed. Smooth operator, lalalala smoooooooth operator. Yessheis, whatamIgonnadowithmygaynesjeez.
AND YES. I'm so curious!!! I kind of tried to ask her what was she thinking but she only smiled and kept silent and I might or might have not tried to guess- Then I stopped because I actually realised that first, I'd love it to be a surprise, and second, I'm terrible at guessing things-- And.. I'm excited. I know this might sound kinda sad but I can't remember the last time I hanged out with someone. Probably when I was 14 or something, but yeah. It's a nice change of things. A fresh breath of air. It's good to have a.. friend? DJAKWEJMKWKDAJKWEJAWJEKEJKE
Okay can we please talk about how I literally didn't know you're asian and I've been following you for SO long now like please JSJSJSJDJAw.
Awww, Van I'm so ADJWKEJKWAEaw. I'm happy this worked out. I kind of needed this to work out. And yet again I have to thank you for encouraging me. I know it might seem like I'm exaggerating but you gave me that little push I needed!! and I'll be! gay is my full time profession. I'm gay all day, all night, all week and month (I bet you weren't expecting that!!)
Have a good night Van!! rest well, have a good week and I'll update you if anyhthing new happens!! Also I'm loving mirror mirror. It's literally my highlight of the week!
LOL that's so cute tho!! hopefully she sent you the pics <3
Straight up though, there's ALWAYS room for dessert. Dessert is a second stomach.
LMFAOSJDFLKS i just needed to check, you know 😂 she probably thought that was so random KSLDJFLSKD
I mean slay, that's perfect though. I feel like hispanic and asian cultures have a lot of overlaps so we're basically the same i'm js.
Niche in this context basically means your interests are very specifc to you or a small group of people, which is awesome! I honestly think the more niche interests someone has, the more interesting they are :) now i too am learning so many shark facts LOL just watch, this week my tiktok is gonna be about sharks now
just hang onto this sweet feeling bc we're all thriving bc of you. You're really out there winning for us LOL
I hope she plans something for you!! You deserve a nice surprise, esp since this is the first time you're actually excited to hangout with someone. It doesn't sound sad bc i literally only look forward to hanging out with like 3 people MAYBE. To this day, I hate meeting new people LMFAO
I always wonder what people think I am but i think there's a least a few people who know if they catch me posting a selfie at the right time once in a blue moon LOL

Can't wait for the next update kdsjflskdjsl i'll be thinking of you two as I write the next mirror mirror chapter <3

The Truth About Eating for Fat Loss Goals
Tumblr media
Greetings everyone! Today we are talking about nutrition and debunking myths that prevent us from achieving our goals. Before we begin, I want to say upfront that you may doubt some of what I say. There is more misinformation about fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles than even in politics. I don’t know of any other field so riddled with myths, empty promises, and confusing methodologies. In a future article, I will explain in detail where all this wildly contradictory information comes from, why you can always find positive reviews for any method, and why you can find any recommendation you want, even if it doesn’t actually work in practice.
The Critical Importance of Nutrition
Tumblr media
Nutrition is not just important, it is the most important part of achieving our goals, accounting for 75-90% of success. No amount of exercise, techniques, or supplements can outweigh poor nutrition. No matter your goal, you should always start with nutrition before going to the gym.
The good news for those who simply want to lose weight is that you may not even need the gym at all. Nutrition comes down to three things:
How we eat
How much we eat
What we eat
It all matters tremendously.
How We Eat and Its Impact
Let’s start with the first point – how we eat and what impact that has. I want to introduce you to the sacred cow for anyone who cares about their physique and health. Remember this, without which no goal can be achieved, from the simplest goal of losing weight over the summer to the most complex goal of building an impressive physique for competition.
No goal can be achieved without increasing your metabolism. Remember that word, you will encounter very often – metabolism, also known as metabolic rate. This is the sacred cow of all bodybuilders, those trying to lose weight by summer, and just people who want to add vitality and prolong youth.
Our bodies have two constant processes from birth to death:
Anabolic (building up tissue)
Catabolic (breaking down tissue)
The rate at which these processes occur is determined by metabolism. Our hated fat can’t just disappear, dissolve, sweat out, or shake off. It can only be spent for the body’s needs. And the rate at which you will lose weight is determined by your metabolic rate. Likewise, when you build your body, how quickly you gain muscle mass and recover will also depend on that infamous metabolism.
With a low metabolic rate a person typically becomes sleepy, sluggish, and slow. They gain fat, lose it very slowly, and can’t build muscle mass – there is no energy to train. Therefore, for the average person trying to change their physique, the goal is to increase their metabolic rate. The higher it is, the easier it is for us to lose weight. Metabolism slows down with:
Age
Alcohol
Infrequent eating
Skipping breakfast
Eating only 2-3 times per day
Large dinners
What can help accelerate metabolism? How we eat.
Frequent Small Meals
Tumblr media
There is no better way to accelerate metabolism than frequent small meals – eating approximately equal-sized portions no less frequently than every 3 hours. When I lost 30 kg (66 lbs) in 4 months, I ate 5-6 times per day. Is this difficult? Does it seem time-consuming? Not at all, it’s very simple. I’ll explain in a future article how you can do this automatically.
For now, I promise time savings and an energy boost by the end of the first week, and if your goal is to lose weight, then weight loss as well. The key is to get the ball rolling so you see that the new life, started properly, pays off immediately and you won’t want to quit it.
Time savings? I know it sounds crazy. But let’s take a stopwatch and calculator and count. At first, you’ll need to eat every 3 hours. How long does it take to eat a small portion? About 4 minutes. If you eat your first meal at 8 am and then every 3 hours until 8 pm, that’s about 5 eating occasions. 20 minutes total. Add another 10 minutes for getting containers back and forth. 30 minutes total.
Now let’s compare that to the standard 3 meals per day when you don’t bring food from home – going downstairs to the cafe, ordering, waiting, paying, eating is already 40 minutes. Plus morning coffee, breakfast, and dinner. Trust me, I have the experience to compare it to. Carrying your own food saves a lot of time.
So to summarize:
The iron rule is to eat every 3 hours. This is how we eat.
It helps accelerate our metabolism.
The higher it is, the easier it is for us to lose weight.
Metabolism slows down with age, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle.
One of the main goals is to increase metabolic rate.
And this is frequent small meals.
However, is it enough for us to just eat candy bars and cake every 3 hours and expect the heavens to smile upon us and we’ll lose weight? Of course not.
Calorie Deficit
Our body expends energy on everything – breathing, working, heart function, body heat, and more. The amount of energy produced is determined by metabolism. By the way, the body really hates calorie deficits. It doesn’t know we live in the 21st century and don’t need to hunt mammoths, which is why it gets fat – just in case of lean times. And as soon as it senses a deficit, it reluctantly tries to tap into reserves. After all, from its perspective, this is a life threat! It tries to reduce calorie expenditure so there is enough. How? Very simply. It tries to reduce metabolic rate. This is very similar to a computer’s energy-saving mode.
Oh, there’s not enough energy we can use? Shut down digestion! Less movement? Let him be sleepy. And so on. It’s very different with frequent small meals. The sensation of hunger is essentially your blood glucose or sugar level. When we constantly provide the furnace with a little fuel, we prevent sugar levels from dropping so low that the body panics and identifies it as a life threat, and switches to energy conservation mode.
So we need to eat every 3 hours to prevent our metabolism from slowing down and keep calories consumed slightly below what the body burns – just slightly. Not too much. Because as soon as we start starving too much, glucose levels will drop, and hello energy conservation mode, goodbye fat burning. This is why you can’t lose weight too quickly.
Let’s summarize:
To lose weight, you need to consume slightly fewer calories than your body burns.
To build muscle, you need to consume more calories than you burn.
This is why it is impossible to simultaneously lose fat and build muscle mass – it has to be one or the other.
The body burns energy. The more the higher the metabolic rate. Blood glucose levels determine if we feel hungry or full and the relative calm of our body. If we tape our mouths shut, nothing good will happen. Glucose levels will drop so low that the body will see it as famine times and immediately slow metabolism to conserve energy. This is why you can’t lose weight infinitely quickly. It seems obvious – we’ll just eat one candy bar or cupcake every 3 hours and we’ll lose weight. Not so fast.
What We Eat
Tumblr media
This brings us to the last point – what we eat. Broadly, everything we eat can be seen as:
Proteins – the building blocks
Carbs – our energy stores
Fats – high energy supplemental materials and reserves.
This is the info you see on any food label along with calories – proteins, fats, and carbs. Despite the fact that all foods contain some combination of proteins, fats, and carbs, it’s more than enough for us to focus on the main components.
So what are proteins? Lean meats, chicken breast, turkey, beef, fat-free cottage cheese, egg whites without the yolk, fish.
Carbs are nearly all grains, oats, rice, buckwheat, anything sweet, anything made from flour. And of course, sugar.
Fats are fats – oils, animal and vegetable fats, and lard. That’s the basics.
Carbohydrates and Insulin
So what and how should we eat? Let’s start with the stumbling block – carbs.
We talked about glucose. Aside from determining if we are hungry or not and triggering fat-burning or conservation mode, it directly impacts insulin production. Our body monitors blood sugar levels and as soon as they spike, the pancreas starts pumping out insulin to store the excess blood sugar as fat. Additionally, insulin prevents tapping into existing fat stores for energy.
Why do our sugar levels spike instantly? Sweets. All carbs can be loosely categorized as simple or complex, with a high or low glycemic index. All simple carbs cause a blood sugar spike, insulin release, and fat storage – as well as blocking existing fat from being used. Which essentially stops any fat loss in its tracks. The conclusion is obvious – nothing good comes from sweets and flour products. Even a small candy bar can halt fat loss for a long time.
To summarize:
Simple carbs with a high glycemic index are in sweet and floury foods.
If you are trying to lose weight you need to eliminate them.
What about grains and pasta? You need to eat them, by no means cut them out entirely, because they are where the body gets energy and glucose. And as soon as glucose levels drop too low, metabolism will slow. The only difference is when you eat them. Nature is such that all metabolic processes slow down at night – slower pulse, slower breathing. We don’t need to move much. Therefore, if you eat carbs at night, they will keep your blood sugar levels high all night long.
Which again interferes with fat burning. If glucose levels drop at night, it does no harm since nighttime metabolism slows anyway. The conclusion – you need to consume your required carbs approximately 3 hours before bedtime.
Proteins and Fats
What about proteins and fats? Proteins are our building blocks. If you are not training, I don’t recommend eating more than 1.5 grams per kg of body weight. Fats are simpler. We need some fat, but not too much. We need about 0.5 grams of polyunsaturated fats per kg of body weight – fats containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Fish oils, flaxseed oil. We need these for proper endocrine system function, and hair and nail health. We cut out animal fats – lard and butter.
The only remaining questions are about fiber and water consumption. You can and should drink plenty of water. But make sure it’s actual water without sugars – compotes, juices, tea, and coffee don’t count.
Fiber, meaning broccoli, cauliflower, etc, is very beneficial. It increases intestinal peristalsis and helps cleanse the body.
That’s really all there is to it. Now I’ll briefly tell you how I lost around 50 lbs (23 kg) in 4 months before I started going to the gym and building my body from scratch.
My Personal Experience
Tumblr media
Eating every 3 hours is ironclad.
I cut out all sweets except for one cheat meal per week where I would replace one meal with something sweet.
Due to being busy, I didn’t count calories precisely – I just ate about 2 cigarette pack-sized portions per meal. That’s not optimal but it worked.
I ate carbs in the first half of the day.
More protein and fiber closer to evening.
No food before bed.
Lean meats, boiled.
Difficult? No.
Anything new? No.
I will tell you about my training and diet. But success lies outside of just advice at the level of “tell me what to eat and what to lift”. These things have been known for ages. There are no new methods, especially for beginners.
I anticipate you will have many questions and doubts – come on, this can’t be true, I heard otherwise, my friend says, etc. And that’s why before I continue with specifics like calculating calories, organizing 5 daily meals, or home ab workouts, I need to spend some time debunking myths and uncovering why the industry of miracle cures thrives. Information is intentionally distorted to throw us off track.
For now, your assignment is to start eating every 3 hours. You need to make this a habit. Don’t worry about calories or macros yet. Just take your normal diet but break it up throughout the day. Most importantly, keep reading my articles and you’ll see no special diets are needed. You have all the willpower you need, I promise, and your quality of life will only improve.
Any discomfort will be temporary and not too serious because a little discomfort is always part of life. I have to explain this before I start giving recipes.
So subscribe, like, share with friends, and comment. It’s always more fun together. Looking forward to your feedback and questions. Bye for now!

163 Minutes in Boston
Tumblr media
Follow on Strava
So about fifteen months ago, I signed up for my first 140mi Ironman. And then I trained a ton for it, and wrote about it. All-time experience.
But I got hurt during the early parts of the run and sort of slogged through it. And that just ate me alive, especially since (a) it was my first true marathon; and (b) I'm a much better runner than swimmer or cycler by nature.
That week I set a goal to qualify for Boston, and ran my second marathon in Utah, and qualified at 2:57, and wrote about what I did to run a sub-three. And you guys really liked that.
So let's talk about the Boston Marathon, which I ran over the weekend! I'll cut to the chase first -- the title was the giveaway, finishing 2:43 and 870th in my third (second?) full distance marathon.
For a fake runner, I was [mostly] happy. More on that later. Notes, race day details, and stats/splits to follow.
Training and Random Notes
On the plus-side of things, my training has been limit up over the last 12-months. Fitness levels, not a problem. Not at all. I do a lot more cross-training than most pure runners, which has it's benefits and drawbacks. But using Garmin's Intensity Minutes as a proxy, you can see how much we moved this needle up in recent months:
Tumblr media
(That VO2 MAX is ripping ....)
On the minus-side of things, mostly everything else, at least for this race.
The worst winter (ever, and I mean EVER) in the Western United States. Running volume down as a result. Endless snow, frigid temperatures, and it's still going on.
An injury, which I've been lucky to avoid for a long while now. Twitter (TWITTER!) diagnosed the injury accurately -- popliteus tendinopathy, rare for most people, more common in runners and triathletes. Physical therapy affirmed. Lot of strength and mobility work, and we eventually went from 'sharpshooting pain' and 'aborted runs' in February to 'manageable'. It hasn't improved much beyond manageable. This also took running down some bit further on top of just horrific weather.
Generally speaking, I ran only about 30-40 miles a week during this 'down period', and in some weeks fewer than that. You can see how much I took it down (measured in mins)"
Tumblr media
But I was religious about time on feet and cross-training. And those stairs. We kept on those stairs. More on that in a minute.
Race Morning Thoughts
Initially, I set a goal for 2:50:00. I knew that was a sandbagged number relative to my fitness, but I had concerns that my leg would hold up at the tail end of the race (especially in the infamous hills of Boston). Moreover, the weather was horrific. Just comical. The northeast has had the most pleasant winter in the history of mankind, and in typical April-in-New-England fashion, the marathon turned into intermittent monsoons and a sustained headwind. This was in the forecast in advance, and so I figured considering the factors at play.
I said I was bullish on fitness, but I was also bullish on nutrition. There are a lot of people I've learned who struggle (and struggle immensely with this) -- finnicky stomachs, indecisiveness, whatever. I train very early in the mornings and as soon as I'm done, it's one of my two jobs on deck, so breakfast is usually just a shake. That said: I tail-end eat a lot. I cannot remember the last day (in months) that I have not had at least two dinners. Eating so much late at night has it's drawbacks, but my body has grown well accustomed to storing and using for tomorrow morning's abuse. If you follow on Strava, you know there are a lot of hours in those early morning banks, and usually at harder intensities.
On that nutrition point: I really didn't have to overthink it much, because my caloric burn (~ 2.6k, let's call it) was only about 36 pct more burn than the average training day. Which isn't insignificant! But I imagine people who do not have heavy and sustained volumes have to get much more careful with loading 48-hours out from race, 24-hours out from race, etc.
With a relatively full stomach from the night prior, morning was easy: bagel and cream cheese, granola, honey stinger waffles (the GOAT of pre-workout food), and fluids.
Changed up the shoes this time around. I'm a firm believer in Nike for speed and HOKA for training/comfort. I usually race in Vapors, PR'd a 1/2 back on 9/11 in D.C (1:16). But it was in a monsoon, logged out the shoes something bad. So I went for the Alphas this time around. If you don't have a pair of Alphas, go get one. Worth it.
The Race
For anyone who is ever interested in running Boston, let me tell you a few quick things. One, it's a lifetime experience, full stop, it's not marketing and it's very real. Two, it's extremely secure, owing to previous events. Three, because it's extremely secure, it can feel cumbersome at times. Waiting around in Athletes Village for hours in cold weather and rain, with little to no cover -- not ideal. But everyone was in good spirits and by and large just trying to stay warm.
My qual time was good enough for wave one, but the congestion for the first five miles was insane. You really were running elbow-to-elbow for some bit of time. I stuck to the sides to try and at least hold a respectable pace (6:30 range) until it could thin out some.
The weather was a challenge the entire race. The cool temperatures kept the heart rate down (I only averaged 165 for the race, despite pushing some), but the sustained 20-25 mph headwind and intermittent heavy rain was a problem, and slowed the race considerably.
At the halfway mark, I was 1:19 range (tracker had 1:20 -- I of course ran more distance than needed, weaving in/out of crowds a few times). Still had full energy at this point, though my right knee was starting to bother a bit. At any rate, I knew I could carry this pace through the rest of the race, more or less.
The areas where the crowds are in Boston? Second to none. The energy is real. Really real. If you have music on, you won't hear it. And you don't want to hear it. Just a truly amazing experience and so laudable for the city -- these people want to motivate every runner, and man you get juiced up from it.
Take your pick: I either thought the hills around miles 16-20 were a bit overrated, certainly more of a mental challenge than anything. I don't say this as a running snob (I'm a fake runner, remember), I do say this as someone who swears by stairs and incline work. In every one of these races I seem to make up considerable time on comparable runners when going uphill. And though my pace grinded down expectedly climbing the hills, it was very comfortable and I didn't want to push my knee (now starting to bother a fair bit) to the point of no return. I trimmed my pace by about 20-25s in the last few miles for this reason. Pure fitness wise, I do think I could've held up the ~ 6:10 pace for about 33 to 35-miles or so, give or take. I do think I missed a couple of opportunities around miles 7-11 to gap down more aggressively, lesson learned there.
I ended 2:43. A bit disappointed to be blunt. I think with a healthy right leg, or better wx conditions, I could've given 2:39:59 a real run.
Most importantly: critical advertising for the worldwide leader. Go Bills.
Tumblr media
Time for the next test. I left a lot on the table, and it's already bothering me!

Power Armor Punch Part 11
Masterlist
Nick: *eases it to her mouth and slowly tilts the can so she doesn't drown* Let me know when you're done.
Jasmine: (Slowly starts sipping, drinking about half of it before she shakes her head and pulls back)
Nick: *takes it away* That-a-girl... I hope you can eat later... you need the nutrients to heal.
Jasmine: (Gives him a doubtful look)
Nick: Look, unless you're a ghoul, you need to eat. I know it sucks... I'm actually a bit envious. My sense of taste... it's not really there. Just a sensor that picks up all the ingredients in the food and tells me what it actually tastes like... in text. You get the full experience.
Jasmine: (Gives him another look. She spent so many years labeling food as danger and forcing herself to throw it up that her body just feels sick at the mention of food. It doesn't even taste all that good to her anymore, just the same poisonous mush) “……….” (Glances back down at herself, still checking for blood)
Nick: I promise you, I won't let you get poisoned on my watch. Just add poison tester to the growing resume of things I can double for. Heh.
Lucille: *gets up after a super long nap at the Slog* Mm... why does 88 smell like water and tar berries? Oh. Right. The Slog... *gets up and rubs her eyes*
Wiseman: Ah. Hey. You're awake. You doing okay? Where's that vigilante detective that's always following you around?
Lucille: Oh, Nick? He's babysitting...
Wiseman: Didn't know that was something he did.
Lucille: He's got no choice... thanks. For the blanket, Wiseman.
Wiseman: No problem.
Jasmine: (Scoffs, and she would smile a little at him if she wasn't feeling shittier than usual. But after THAT particular memory she ain't gonna eat for awhile, especially since she still expects to see her blood everywhere)
Nick: I know you're still reeling from the nightmare so I won't ask ya to eat right this moment... but later, when it's less prominent.
Jasmine: (Shakes her head at that, but then stops because of the headache)
Nick: Well, the way I see it, it's either eat or stay here for a month and be periodically dosed with nutritional supplements via an IV. Course we could always do the tube down your throat and into your stomach and force you to eat mush... *smirks* Honestly if I were you, I'd at least attempt to eat something.
Jasmine: (Side eyes him with a frown) (Even if she ate a full meal, she would just throw it back up almost immediately and get a flood of bad memories. And that would only be ONE meal. On the other hand, if they did the tube or IV, her hands would have to be tied at almost all times or else she would just pull it out, plus bad memories. Lose lose in this case, but what wasn't in her life?)
Nick: Fine, IV it is then... *looks away*
Jasmine: (Blinks a few times in surprise. She didn't even say anything….)
Nick: I saw that look, kid. *sniffs the air* You might need a shower.
Jasmine: (Chokes on her spit, casting him a WTF look. She keeps herself very clean, being prewar and all. Its a little difficult in post nuclear war setting, but she manages somehow. Even when she was kept in the dirty damp cell she was relatively hygienic)
Nick: Just saying- you've been in and out of things for a day or so. You might want to consider a bath.
Jasmine: (Nods her head after a moment. Hopefully this would help get rid of the lingering blood smell.…)
Nick: Do you think you'll behave if I help you to the showers and back? And before ya get all suspicious, I'm only asking this to ensure your safety.
Jasmine: (Tilts her head her head at him. Why would she get suspicious?)
Nick: Sorry if that sounded off. It's just after seeing what I've seen in your head and considering we're taking about you getting cleaned up, I'm concerned you'd think I have some "ulterior motive" and do something rash. *he's started to question if she still trusts him, even though he doesn't blame her for what happened a moment ago*
Jasmine: (Takes a moment to think about it) (Mouths) “I trust you.” (She never stopped trusting him, its just other things and other people she doesn't trust. She pushed him because he shook her at the wrong moment and she believed that he was someone else. And when she says she trusts him, she means she trusts HIM, not thinking that he has any other intention than what he says)
Nick: *eyes go a little wide before he smiles back at her* Will you get back into bed and stay there when we get back?
Jasmine: (Sighs, but nods slightly) (Mouths) “Not happy about it…..” (She means that she might put up a protest)
Nick: I know... *almost pleadingly* but can you at least try to cooperate? If not for yourself, for me?
Jasmine: (Nods again. She will try, but she cannot make any promises as usual)
Nick: Alright. Let me get you some soap, a rag and a towel. *leaves to ask Curie where those are*
Jasmine: (Stays still and waits, but its not like she can do anything else. However, being tied town with no means of protecting herself is starting to make her anxious)
Nick: *comes back with the items and starts undoing the restraints*
Jasmine: (Stays completely still, not moving at all until he is finished. Both of her wrists are a little bruised where Nick had to hold them tightly to restrain her)
Nick: *pauses when he notices the bruises. He studies them quickly before looking apologetically into her eyes* I'm sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you.
Lucille: *planting plants, making a greenhouse*
Jasmine: (Looks right back at him, her hands now free) (Signing) “I pushed YOU.” (Sitting up, a little too quickly so she puts a hand to her head)
Nick: Easy... you okay? *will respond to what she said once her dizziness subsides*
Lucille: *The folks here are really proud of their tar berry farm*
Jasmine: (Nods, blinking rapidly as she pulls her hand away from her head)
Nick: Good. As for what you said a moment ago, you pushing me is no excuse for my actions resulting in your harm. Usually, I'm very mindful of how much force goes into an action but I think I went a little to far, hence the apology.
Jasmine: (Shrugs) (Signing) “If you didn't use all that force, I would have done more damage.” (Shuffling her legs to stand up, slowly this time because her body feels like jelly)
Nick: *very carefully helps her stand* I'm aware of that, believe me. I still don't like that it happened.
Jasmine: (Pulls away from his help as she stands straight, swaying slightly but she manages to grab onto the bed to hold herself up) (Mouthing) “Shit” (Waiting for the room to stop spinning and her headache to calm down)
Nick: Don't go acting all foolishly brave and noble by refusing help. It only makes things worse for one person and that's you.
Jasmine: (Takes a deep breath, shaking her head. She has had enough help for today, she needs to do things on her own)
Nick: Fine. Suit yourself, but I'll still be near if you start to fall on your way to the showers.
Jasmine: (Sighs, grabbing the crumbled up blanket off the corner of the bed and wraps it over her shoulders, taking a few wobbly and dizzy steps on her own out of the room)
Nick: *follows her close behind*
*The halls look much the same as the rooms except for some signs and occasional paintings.*
Jasmine: (Realizes she has no idea where to go and glances back at Nick, putting a hand to the wall to hold herself up)
Nick: *walks up to her* Do ya need me to lead you to the showers? Cause I can do that.
Jasmine: (Nods, looking up at him) (Signing) “Sorry.” (Fully leaning up against the wall, taking some breaths to steady herself)
Nick: *does a half wave gesture before he draws closer* Don't worry about it. Here. Give me your arm... *going to support her by putting his arm under hers and around her shoulder*
Jasmine: (Holds out her arm, letting him support her because honestly she can barely keep herself up)
Nick: *pulls her near doing just that* Alright... let's go... *starts leading her to the showers*
Jasmine: (Follows along, half leaning her head on his shoulder to try to help her lingering hellish headache)
Nick: Almost there, kiddo. *taking it slow to keep from jostling her*
Jasmine: (Nods, actually very grateful for his help. Without it, she would've fallen over)
Nick: *as they get closer to a door labeled showers* You think you'll be able to take a shower on your own? I'm not sure if they have seats in there.
Lucille: *building defenses at the Slog*
Jasmine: (Shrugs. She will have to see once they get there)
Nick: *opens the door* Inside we find... stalls. Curtains... both sets separated by a wall for men and women... *guides her to the women's side and opens a stall* Looks like they have safety bars and a chair in case you want to sit...
Jasmine: (Nods, looking into the stall for a moment. Raises her wrists to gesture at the bandages)
Nick: Sure... as long as you don't pick at your arms...
Jasmine: (Frowns. She cant promise that. Same thing with the stitches)
Nick: *pleading tone* Please at least try to resist the urge? For me?
Jasmine: (Sadly shakes her head, looking down. She wants to say yes to put him at ease, but there is no guarantee. Especially after what happened, the horrible nightmare that still feels real, and her shoving Nick…..)
Nick: ... Know morse code at all? If it keeps your mind off of hurting yourself, I can stand here and chat while you clean up.
Jasmine: (Shakes her head. She never learned morse code, never even crossed her mind that she would need too. Perhaps they attempted to reach her at some point, but it’s all blurry form then)
Nick: Well, I guess a I'll just try to keep talking then. One tap for "yes", two for "no", three for "I don't know", and four for "change the subject". Will that do ya? *helping her with her bandages*
Jasmine: (Nods again, watching as her cuts slowly appear from under the bandages)
Nick: *slight encouraging smile, seeing some of them start to scab over* Well, look at that... looks like they've started to heal, already.
Jasmine: (Looks up at him with almost guilty eyes, not sure what to tell him. Those cuts are almost weeks old, they just stuck around due to her scratching them almost every chance she gets)
Nick: None of them look infected, either. That's a good sign... *unwrapping her other arm*
Jasmine: (Just stares down at her feet to avoid looking at him)
Nick: *finishes with the bandages* There we are. *takes the washcloth and soap and hands it to her* Here. I'll keep the towel on me when you're ready.
Jasmine: (Nods, stepping back and starts undoing her twin braids. This was gonna be a fun fight to wash and brush out her long curly hair)
Nick: *decides turn away to give her some privacy...* Would you be willing to let Curie do your hair? Don't know if my hands are cut out for braiding. My right might get all tangled up in it.
Jasmine: (Stops fiddling and taps to respond) “No.” (She can manage her hair on her own, hopefully….)
Nick: *sighs. He really wants her to start relying on other people other than him. He knows he won't be around all the time to keep her safe* Alright, then...
Jasmine: (Finishes unbraiding her hair, letting her hair flow freely, sighing at the thought of fighting out the knots. She turns to the shower, fiddling to remove the hospital gown)
Nick: *keeping his gaze averted. Wants to give her as much privacy as she needs to feel comfortable*
Jasmine: (Frowns again at the sight of her stitches and bandages on her legs and torso, clutching the gown tightly in her hand. Her mind starting to wander) “………” (For a moment she clearly saw her body all banged up and bruised, blood dripping down from her legs and the horrid words that had been cut into her soft skin with a knife…..)
Nick: *senses her hesitation* Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere. You're safe. *pulls out the hospital gown he nearly forgot he grabbed*
Jasmine: (Snaps back into reality, blinking a few times. She nods her head, then remembers Nick cant see her) (Mouthing to herself) “Stupid.” (She removes the rest of the bandages before she turns on the shower, setting the temperature at the coldest setting possible- standing still under it. Warm water seemed to luxurious for someone like her in this moment…. She closes her eyes, not minding the icy water against her skin)
Nick: Y'know, after taking a quick gander at the other stalls there might be hot water installed. No one's gonna get mad if you use it.
Jasmine (Opens her eyes to glance back at him, forgetting again that he cant see her. If she was being honest with herself, she didn't feel like she deserved it. Plus, she practically took cold showers her whole life. At her old home she let everyone else shower first and they couldn't really afford much heating so the water was lukewarm at best. At the cell room, she was only allowed to use icy cold water for her entire time there)
Nick: It may be hard to believe but you are allowed to enjoy small things like this... *leaning on the wall between the stalls*
Jasmine: (Taps back) “No.”
Nick: *rolls his eyes* Dearheart, I think you of all people deserve to enjoy a warm shower the most in the Commonwealth. Turn on the hot water. You'll thank me later. *really doesn't want to fight her over shower temperatures of all things*
Jasmine: (Sighs, reluctantly turning the nob too make the water warmer. She closes her eyes again, letting the water pour over her for a moment) “……..” (Well shit, now she just feels sad. Stupid emotions coming over at the wrong moments)
Nick: *reassuringly* See... now isn't that better than turning yourself into an icicle?
Jasmine: (Shakes her head, cursing herself for forgetting that he cant see her again. Yes, it did feel quite nice against her skin, but there was something off to her about it, like its not suppose to be happening. Especially to herself….)

Hola! Can you do a fic where Leo gets magic hiccups (due to eating a Wonderworld fruit) and the other inhabitants try to help him cure it
Teehee! Not gonna lie, the idea of Leo getting hiccups from eating something he shouldn't is hilarious. Anyways, here's the fic.
During his time in Wonderworld, Leo felt himself starting to get really hungry. He decided to go look for something to snack on. After some searching he found a bowl of a strange fruit that he had never seen before.
The fruit was in the same colors as the drops that he and Emma would feed to the Tims. Except that they were the size of mangoes. Leo took a red fruit out of the bowl and examined it. A part of him wanted to ask Balan what this fruit was.
But there was a part of him that still wanted to eat. With a shrug, Leo bit down onto the fruit and chewed onto the piece. The fruit tasted sweet, like cotton candy. And the texture resembled that of custard.
Leo felt himself savoring the fruit bite after bite. It really was such a delectable treat to have. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the Tims staring at him for some reason. But he shrugged and went back to eating until he finished it all.
Leo was about to reach for another fruit when he suddenly let out a hiccup. But this hiccup...turned his skin as cyan as some of the drops. Emma came into the room. "Hey, Leo? Have you seen—," She stopped and gasped at what she was seeing. "Leo, what happened to you?"
"Huh, what do you mean?" Leo asked, turning to face her. He let out another hiccup, only for his skin to turn pink instead. Emma's shocked face didn't falter a bit. Instead, she stood as still as a statue.
"Your skin!" She said. "It was cyan, but when you hicccuped, it turned pink! Look in the mirror!" Emma pointed to a nearby mirror. Leo was confused, but he looked in the mirror as well.
To his shock, his entire body, except for his hair and eyes, was pink. "What the—!?" He asked. "How did this happen!?"
"Did you have anything before this happened?" Emma asked Leo. "Please be honest, Leo."
"Just a fruit that was in that bowl over there," Leo said. "I was getting hungry, so I helped myself to those drop-shaped fruit. I only had one, but that was it."
Emma looked at the fruit and eyed them cautiously. "Balan's never told us about these fruit," She said. "We need to find him and ask how we can get you back to normal."
Leo shrugged before following Emma out of the room. The two began to look for Balan, in desperate need of help. The Tims followed the two teens, wanting to see Balan as well.
They found Balan outside on the Isle of Tims. Atillio turned to the two and waved. "Hey, Emma," He greeted. "And... Leo, what happened to your skin?" Balan and the others turned, shock etching their faces as they saw Leo's pink skin.
Leo let out another hiccup. This time, his skin turned yellow. Only his clothes and blue eyes stood out. "Please tell me that's makeup, darling," Lucy said, growing concerned.
"It's not makeup," Emma explained. "Leo ate a fruit and suddenly, whenever he hiccups, his skin changes color."
"Would it be the fruit in the bowl that you're talking about?" Balan asked. "Hopefully, I'll be able to figure this out."
"Yes, I ate a fruit from that bowl," Leo admitted. "Was I supposed to?"
"I am afraid not, little one," Balan said, shaking his head. "Any Visitor that eats Wonderworld fruit will experience side effects which are far from fun."
"Wonderworld fruit?" Leo asked. "What's that?"
"Fruit that grows in Wonderworld all year round," Balan explained. "Even in the chapters they can be found. They're a delicacy for Tims and Negati to eat. Indeed, even Lance and I have them as a treat."
"Is there a way that we can cure him?" Cass asked Balan.
"In order for us to cure Leo of his condition," Balan said, "we must first collect the leaves of the Tim Traps as they help with nutrition."
"I have those flowers in my chapter," Haoyu said, standing up. "I'll collect some and bring them back to you." Haoyu turned around and went to his chapter.
"The second ingredient is easy to find," Balan said. "A drop of every color, ones that I must grind."
"I'm helping Yuri find some," Jose said. "Back in a bit." He and Yuri left and went to their chapters."
"And the final ingredient will help the best," Balan said. "A glass of water and a bit of rest."
"Let me get some water," Fiona said. She went to her chapter to go get water.
"Why do I have a feeling that I won't like the taste?" Leo asked. He hiccuped again and his skin turned red.
"Don't know," Eis said with a shrug of his shoulders. "But we're going to do our best to cure you."
"It's okay to be scared, Leo," Sana assured. "We're here so it will be over before you know it."
"I'm not scared," Leo pouted, crossing his arms stubbornly. He hiccuped again and his skin turned purple.
Suffice to say, when the others came back with the ingredients, Balan created the cure. He now held a vial of a sparkling purple liquid.
"That looks unappetizing," Leo said, narrowing his eyes at it. "Are you sure that it's safe?"
"It has to be," Iben said. "Taking it is the only way to get better, Leo."
Leo sighed and took the vial. When he drank the liquid in one gulp, his face was filled with disgust. "Yuck!" He said. "How can this be edible!? How can—!?" He never got to finish. Instead, he collapsed onto the ground, eyes closed.
"Is he alright?" Bruce asked, not expecting that to happen. Cal rushed over to check Leo out.
"He's fine," He said, breathing a sigh of relief. "Leo's just passed out from the liquid he drank. That's all."
"I think Leo learned his lesson," Emma said, causing the Inhabitants to nod in agreement.
And Leo did. He never ate a Wonderworld fruit again.

A MORNING THAT DISCOVERS MY TALENT
I woke up with the beautiful morning and the sunrise with the beautiful lights, and birds flying in the air. I started my day with waking up in the morning, eating my delicious breakfast and when I finish eating I go to the bathroom and taking some cold and fresh water. And I have one classmate named Jherico, Jherico is one of my closest friend in Elementary Days and then one time he ask me that what is my dream, what I want to become when I glow up, Jherico is a kind person that you can't find to another one. Then I ask him if its okay that we go together in the school and he agreed. Then suddenly the bell ringing and we go outside then the principal announced that tomorrow is nutrition month. So the teacher group us into like 6-7 groups and each groups must bring any vegetables are available in your house and the morning comes we all ready for the event and I didn't think that there's have a like cooking show so we picked one of my classmates and she agree that she is the one who present for our section. And the minute passed, the principal announced that be ready for the cooking show.
My classmate picked up all the ingredients that she needed for her recipe. And later that moment the show is begin and they have 1hour to finish they're dish and the timer starts now so my classmate prepared all she needed like vegetables and everything. She wash it clearly and smoothly and she begin to starts cooking, so i cheer for her and i looked her and i saw that she is shaking and idont know why but she already finish cooking and that moment so i decided to go to her and I ask that what happened? Why are you shaking? Are you nervous? She answered me I am okay but I don’t know what to do I don’t know how to put this in unique way of plating so I decided to help her in my own creativity and we running out of time but I didn’t mind that then I finish with my work and my classmate present it to the judges and we all wait for the announce for the winners.
And later that moment all the participants is standing in front of the judges and one of the judges is talking and congratulating for all the participants that showing their talents in cooking. And since the judges is talking in front so I ask my friend, Jherico if I can go with him and he answered me ‘yes u can go with me’ and we got home. So I knocked the door and no one answering me. Since I have the spare key I open the door and my mother leave some notes and she put it in my bed and when I read it, it says they all go to the supermarket and buy some groceries because we running out of stocks. And I sat in my bed for a while and when I open my closet drawer ‘goshh its empty’ what I supposed to wear? So I decided to bring all my dirty clothes to washing area and I wash it and I leave it just for a while because I felt hungry. When I go back there’s no foods and I don’t know what to cooked. So I pray god what ever happened at this moment I beg you that there’s no hazardous happened to me. I saw some eggs and I picked the 2 of them and I started scrambling it put some seasoning so that my eggs it will taste better so I grabbed the frying pan and cooked it. But I prayed god that moment that I hope it will cooked right and that’s if you can’t cooked by your own. You keep called god even though god can’t help you with that. But let’s go back, I cooked it normally and it taste a little bit salty but I don’t mind it because I'm hungry so I ate it together with bread and when I finish eating I go back to the washing area but this is the first time that I do washing clothes and cooking.
