hey yall i made a character sorter for splatbands!! its a little bare bones (no undo button, exclusion options, etc.) but it gets the job done!! feel free to reblog or reply with your results :D!

where are the idols?

this sorter was made specifically with the splatbands fandom in mind, rather than the broader splatoon fandom! so i left the idols out considering well. just how popular and relevant to the wider community they are. yes, they technically are band characters, but they're front and center to just about everything else about the game. so theyve been left out here.

now, if enough people DO want them added? i will absolutely add them in a heartbeat! but for the time being they will remain out of the list.

what about turquoise october and octoplush? what about dj octavio?

sort of the same reason as the idols, though in 2/3 of those cases, it's sort of the opposite? there's not really all that much characterization to turquoise october and octoplush, as they're just anonymous collectives of musicians. and this sorter was intended to highlight the characters of the bands, not just the bands themselves. if that were the case, it would be a splatbands song or band sorter, not just the characters! so, they're also being left out. buuuut again, the same thing goes for them! if enough people want them added and ask for it, i will absolutely load them up into the character list!

why use the non-localized character names?

because i have a personal vendetta against the underpaid noa intern that localized them <3 next question JOKE JOKE THATS A JOKE FOR LEGAL REASONS THAT IS A JOKE in all seriousness though, im just used to them more and, as said in the idols section, this sorter was made for the fandom in mind! i'd assume people here will be much more familiar with those names! (even though i am quite partial to a few of the more thoughtful name choices tbh…) you will only catch me using 'mashup' with full sincerity over my cold, dead body, though.

why no undo button or exclusion options?

ok so. i am by no means an expert at coding. this entire project was just something i threw together in 24 hours running off of a free template and my bare-bones html and javascript knowledge. and to my understanding, in order to actually get javascript RUNNING in a custom tumblr theme, you need to jump through a whole lot of hoops and contact support about it and. i do not really have the mental bandwidth or patience to do that atm.

that being said, if anyone reading this does have that knowledge and WOULD like to pitch in and help improve the sorter in any sort of way, absolutely be my guest! you can send me an ask or a dm over on my main about it and i'd be glad to add onto this to make it better!

but as of rn? the sorter works and the little guys go into their list. i am as happy as i can be just with that alone <3

Hi!! I just wanted to ask for some clarification on some things you mentioned about your coding- Im learning python (sorta) and id like to know the reasonings?

For history, cant you just make a text file while working on the main history feature? After some fiddling around i got the game to create a text file and put event text that wasn't interactions in said file. I think it'd help since if things get bloated the player can just copy the text to a google doc and delete all previous text- the code i whipped up works fine this way. Pasting it below, idk if tumblr will fuck it up tho.

Put the declaration on line 233 (before loaded events were cleared), with game.cur_events_list as the event_list. I know theres apparently security concerns with using files or calling them but I know WAY too little to know if a txt file will send my computer into chaos. "my_file" should also be named after the clan name, and in its own folder for neatness. Using this also means history (ingame) can be deleted after x moons to prevent bloating overall? If the player still wants the deleted history, they just need to go to the text file. Should help with people who want to copy text too, since no longer will screenshots be needed!

As for prophecies, cant you make a hidden illness for a prophecy that gets added to 1-3 cats, that gets cured after x days (aka when the prophecy is fulfilled, from what I've seen in the code illnesses get cured after x days so if multiple cats get the prophecy illness they should all be 'cured' on the same day)? It'll be work to add stuff like multiple cats in a single prophecy and adding personality into the mix but it shouldn't be outright impossible, right? Grieving seems to work similarly so the template seems to be there.

Me coming into ur asks (yes theres better places for this im just anxious @ the discord channels lmao) is 100% a sign of love for the game. I also would like to know if the ideas would work or not, i am genuinely curious about if they've been considered and (if so) the reasons why they weren't implemented! Love yall :)

Yes, we could implement a history txt file but it would become very large very quickly. And while we could try and count on the player to get rid of the file if it's causing lag, there would end up being a lot of players who don't understand how to navigate files and wouldn't know how to delete the txt file. Once the file gets big enough it'll make timeskips begin to lag out as the file is opened and changed by the game, and then held open until the game is saved once again (since the file can't be saved and closed before the player saves the game, in case the player closes without saving). It'll also take up memory during this process.

Basically, it would use resources that we feel would be better allocated to handling other areas of the game.

The problem with prophecies is that there's a million different things that a prophecy could be predicting. Is it predicting a new special cat (like firestar), is it predicting something far in that cat's future (bluestar), perhaps it's predicting an illness or a disaster, maybe it predicts a lost cat returning. There's so many options and the moment that the game starts dictating the meaning of the prophecy is the moment that those options become significantly fewer.

If we do decide to dictate the 'meaning' of a prophecy, then there's the added trouble of ensuring that any cats integral to the prophecy don't get killed or permanently changed in a way that makes the prophecy stop making sense. We have begun working on an "ongoing event" system that would control events spanning over multiple moons. This will eventually be used for things like natural disasters and wars, and if we wanted to we could potentially use it for prophecies. But, as said, that poses a lot of difficulties with having to "soft lock" any cats included in that prophecy so that they only change in specific ways that make sense. This would require a ton of work to code in.

It's never impossible but sometimes it can be unreasonable, and this is a case where we feel that "real" prophecies would be unreasonable.

awh, you're so sweet! i'll put a little info here, but if you have questions you can either send a second ask or just DM me. :-)

so, it's going to take a lot of chopping and changing. we're still not completely content with, like, the *home* page of our profile. we've redone everything 100 times! all i can suggest is looking at others' for inspiration, asking yourself what sort of themes you like, and going in with low expectations.

if you want to use any of the sort of "templates" we have made, feel free to! stuff like the custom fields and flag names you're welcome to just nab. ^^ credit would be nice, but i'm chill either way.

Master post for my main save state Heroes of Thedas!

One of my first ocs for anything, I love her. From less than nothing to fish out of water to legendary hero? The flavor, the taste! Immaculate! She was originally just meant to be kind of a joke character for me to test out origins with, but her and her chaotic energy grew on me fast lol

Ya’ll have seen her around, I’ve been drawing a lot of her and Leliana recently lol

My most recent of these three actually, @sapphireangelbunny gifted me DA2 semi recently lol. I made him specifically to have a sarcastic Hawke that would do the “Boneless Woman” line... Which I (And Phoenix of course) felt terrible about later XD

Ah, my only truly serious character of these three. I had notes for him dating back to 2019 but I wasn’t satisfied with him until I gave him some semblance of horns lol. He starts off as this stoic, distant merc doing what needed to be done and grows more into opening up as he finally found a group of people that cared about him more than just what he was capable of.

Yall can send asks for questions if you want, I don’t know how much of that I will do, but I’ve always wanted to try those lol

Custom bodyhair for NPCs

This method use mesh swaping and custom pathing!

You’ll need :

CP77 Tools / Wolvenkit console

body / torso mesh and its buffers extracted

010 and the CP77 template

I won’t go over how to get the game files, or to extract them, I assume you already know all that. This tutorial will go over how to custom path a different body hair texture for a NPC for custom clothes mods!

🟨 WON’T WORK With AMM’s naked/shirtless custom appearances

You need to grab the mesh you're going to use as a body / chest and swap on the NPC. I made edit to mine, but I used the “t0_000_ma_base__full” body

Open the “buffer 0″ and check the files list, search for the skintone your NPC is using. Mitch is using the “male_01_ca_pale.mi” file

You can see I have it custom pathed already, but you can check the other files to see the path

Go to the “base\characters\common\skin\character_mat_instance\male\body” folder and grab the .mi file corresponding to your NPC's skin tone Copy and Paste it in a custom folder created at the base of your mod

Also create another folder where you will put the custom texture you want your NPC to use (edited or not)

Let's go back to our buffer 0 of our mesh custom path your skintone, in my case “male_01_ca_pale.mi”, to point to your custom folder. In my case “base\materialinstances\male_01_ca_pale.mi” Open that .mi file. That file point to another .mi file, that we also need to copy and paste in the custom folder, and then custom path

It calls for another file, that we also have to copy and paste into the custom folder. That .mi file finally calls for the texture files! We custom path those as well

Once you have the .mi files all custom pathed, and the texture custom pathed as well (don't forget to save the edited files of course) you can custom path the one in the mesh buffer as well and save, then rebuild the mesh using the console (so that the edit in the buffer actually have an impact on the mesh!)

Copy that mesh, and create the folders that goes to your NPC's main outfit, and swap one of the slot. I used Mitch's jacket to load the body mesh

That specific body mesh will now read and load the .mi files and .xbm files from your custom folders in the mod and your NPC should now have a different texture than your V!

giffing tutorial/resources

hi anon! sorry it took me so long to answer. i figured this might be helpful for others out there who have asked me similar questions, so i’ve compiled a pretty comprehensive list of tutorials/resources. idk about others but when i was new to giffing, it took me a lot of painful effort to go around and look for resources, so i’m putting it all here to make it a little easier!

i download videos using 4k video downloader. it will download very good quality 1080p videos in .mp4 format. if you’re downloading a 4k video, make sure to change the setting option to .mkv so that you get 4k and not 1080p—for obvious reasons since you want the highest quality.

i rely on kpopexciting to get .ts files — which are basically raw, very high quality video files for live performances. they are much less grainy than .mp4 versions of live performances—which are the ones you’ll see uploaded to youtube. i’ve found that 4k videos (in .mkv) are just as good quality as .ts, but obviously you will rarely see live performances in 4k, so get .ts when you can!! you can also try to find .ts files on twitter, but you may have to do a lot of digging. i wish i could recommend you twitter accounts, but the ones i used to go to have been very inactive/taken down all their drives :( but this website is really nice and updated frequently so i would recommend it!

vapoursynth links + download. the reason you would use vapoursynth is to resize your gif, while maintaining the optimal quality of the gif. if you gif without vapoursynth (.ie only using photoshop), it will still be fine, but the image quality may be grainier. also, you will definitely need vapoursynth to gif .ts files —more will be explained in the tutorial i’ve linked below. i would recommend that you have a high processing/lots of ram/newer desktop or laptop to use vapoursynth so that 1, your computer isn’t fried and 2, your vapoursynth process will go a lot faster. i am using a 2017 macbook pro for all my work, and it runs pretty well, but my laptop still gets pretty hot so just make sure you’re not running a million things in the background while using adobe products and vapoursynth lol. i used a pretty old and beat up 2011 model macbook air back then, and i will say that yes vapoursynth worked and ran on it, but it took much longer, and basically fried the laptop’s battery (aka i had to get the battery changed twice and the laptop would die randomly) but issok it was a school borrowed laptop so i didn’t feel too bad lol. im just saying this as a precaution, to preserve the health of your electronic devices!! but don’t be afraid to use vapoursynth! you should still try it at least once.

thank you to @realstraykids for this super detailed, really nice tutorial! it includes how and where to download videos, how to gif using vapoursynth, using photoshop, comparisons, coloring, and pretty much all you need to know. 10/10 would recommend

thank you to @dreamcolouring for this lifesaver!!! the best and easiest way to blur out unwanted captions/objects in your gifs. i recommend doing this step after converting your frames to video timeline and before you do sharpening and coloring. another tip i’ll add is to feather the selection you’ve made right before you click on “add vector mask” —this will make sense once you’ve read through the tutorial. feathering it will make the blurred spot less noticeable and more subtle.

i use this generator to create gradient colored captions! copy and paste your text, then select the colors you want. generate the code, and copy it. change the settings of the text editor on your post to HTML. paste the code, preview, and voila! add elements <blockquote>,<b>,<i>, etc as needed. see more on colored captions in this tutorial by @kylos --i believe op mentioned a different and better color generator but for some reason it won’t work for me :( hopefully it works for u! basically same idea as the previous generator i mentioned.

my own mini tutorial/workflow process of making gifs. this includes working with a .ts file, vapoursynth, photoshop, coloring, watermarking, etc. and a few of my own tips below:

if you are working with an .mp4, you do not have to make any changes to the preprocessor/denoise filters/sharpening in the resizing part of vapoursynth—it doesn’t make that big of a difference if you do. but if you are working with a .ts file, definitely do make those changes,, that’s the whole reason you have vapoursynth. with an .mp4, i like to use vapoursynth to just resize, but i don’t add any additional settings. i use smart sharpen in photoshop to sharpen it, which is pretty good on it’s own (at least in photoshop 2020!).

my rule of thumb is to do add .02 seconds when i am setting frame delay. so if when you first import the frames, they are at 0.04 seconds, i usually change them to 0.06. of course, this is my personal taste—you can make all your gifs faster or slower depending on how you want em to look.

if you are on a mac, you can screen record by pressing Command+Shift+5 (it’s a shortcut to quicktime screen recording). I only screen record for things like the beyond live concert or other live streamed events. the image quality of the screen recording, in my experience, is actually pretty good. when you gif the screen recording however, you may notice that it adds extra frames that you don’t need. by that i mean duplicate frames. you could keep the duplicate frames but that just means the size of your gif is going to be much bigger (keep in mind the limit is 8mb). in order to remove those duplicates, my only solution has been to remove them manually (by holding Command while selecting), or when you are importing the video to frames, select the option to “limit to every 2 frames”—but this method will be less precise and still not as good as manually removing frames. if you remove the duplicate frames, this means you will need to set the frame delay even slower, to make up for lost frames. in my experience, fps(frames per second) and frame delay work in conjunction. so for example, if i delete every other frame because they are duplicates, but the starting frame delay is 0.02, i am now going to change it to something like 0.05 (so i added 0.03 seconds rather than my usual 0.02). if the duration length and the image dimensions of the gif are short/small, feel free to keep the duplicate frames in—i only delete duplicate frames in order to keep my gif under the 8mb limit. then, if you keep the duplicate frames in, continue with your standard frame delay preferences. now that i’m writing this im realizing this might not make a lot of sense lol.. but don’t worry about it for now and if you run into trouble w screen recorded gifs then you can come back to this for reference. again, this is only my experience recording on a mac—it may be a lot different if you use a screen recording program or are on a pc.

i don’t really use .psd templates because i like to give every gif/gifset it’s own unique coloring—so i remake the coloring every time, but if you get into a rhythm it’s pretty easy. there are a lot of nice coloring tutorials out there, too! my personal coloring adjustments in order: levels, exposure, color balance, selective color (if needed), vibrance, photo filter (if needed), color lookup (i use 2strip most often and i put it on ‘color’ blending mode). don’t forget to adjust the opacities and fills of the ‘color lookup’ adjustment layer in case it’s too strong. go back to correct each adjustment layer as needed. then, when you’re done and satisfied, group all those layers, copy the group (you can do an easy command+c), and paste it onto the next gif you’re working on for easy workflow.

if for some reason you can’t see the frames when you import your layers/video, it’s likely because your ‘timeline’ window isn’t showing up. just go to the window menu on photoshop, go to the bottom and you’ll see ‘timeline.’ make sure it has a check next to it.

i recommend watermarking your gifs because a lot of people like to repost tings these days 😠 - so make sure u got your brand on it! i keep my watermark saved to my ‘libraries’ in photoshop so it’s ready when i need it. i use the blending mode ‘overlay’ and adjust the opacity, but if you don’t want to do that you can also add a stroke/shadow to your watermark/do all sorts.

keep in mind that giffing takes a lot of patience, energy, and experience—so don’t worry if it takes you a bit to figure things out or if your gifs don’t turn out the way you want them to the first time around. we all start at the same place and all run into problems. i know giffing can sound intimidating and seem like a lot of work, but i promise, once you get into a routine, giffing is going to happen in minutes—and you’ll get beautiful gifs. have fun! 😊

remember in the first part, when neil said that drake spear’s case would forever remain unsolved?

yeah. this is that.

Neil traversed their kitchen as he threw together a curry Renee had recommended, whistling very poorly with the TV on in the background. An Exy game was always playing, much to Andrew’s dismay.

They’d been living together for about a year and a half, and engaged for nearly a week now. Neil thought he couldn’t possibly get any happier, which was odd and unfamiliar in his tragic life. As he rinsed the starch off the rice and threw it into the rice cooker (gifted to him by Allison because once he’d served her undercooked, burnt rice and she’d never forgiven him since) he heard the front door unlock and twist open, the familiar shuffle of his fiancé arriving home making Neil smile.

That sentiment was lost when he turned around to greet him.

“Andrew,” Neil managed, watching Andrew fall onto the couch. He looked at the television, eyes so distant that they couldn’t register Neil even as he crouched down in front of him. “Andrew?”

His hands were shaking, curled into fists by his sides. Neil had never seen his skin so pale and lifeless.

“Andrew,” he continued. “Can i sit next to you?” When he didn’t answer, Neil slowly moved to sit on the couch, giving him enough time to shove him back. Neil kept at least a centimetre between them at every point.

“I’m making dinner,” he said, trying to think of something mundane to draw him out of his head. “Curry, one of Renee’s. You said you tried it and liked it. It has lamb, and I've snuck in some peas, but the sauce tastes good enough that we should be able to ignore them.” His fists relaxed slightly, the longer Neil talked. “You remember that cat shelter that I said was a front? Well, it’s still a cat shelter. Maybe we could check it out, see if there are any hairless ones. I know you like the hairless ones.”

Andrew reached out for Neil’s hand and closed his eyes. His thumb traced the scars on Neil’s skin. The pattern was familiar and comforting for Andrew: Neil sighed with relief.

“I’ve got those off-brand icecream sticks you love,” Neil continued, leaning in closer. “There was only one box left that weren’t those coconut-raspberry ones. Pure chocolate, just for you. Maybe we could dip them in sprinkles.”

Andrew hummed softly.

“Hey,” Neil said under his breath, leaning closer. He never asked if Andrew was okay, if he was alright, how his day went: not when he was like this. Asking a question meant requiring an answer, and providing a template meant forcing a restricted response. Andrew didn’t need to give Neil falsities. They were past that.

“Drake is being let out on parole.”

Drake fucking Spear.

Andrew told Neil the story a year into dating. He was in college, with his cousin and his brother. They’d moved to South Carolina, lived under Betsy’s roof as a reprieve from their biological family, and then congregated at their local college. All was fine until Andrew’s foster-home past caught up with him, the last time they’d gone to visit Nicky’s mother and father.

Drake had been waiting for Andrew in Nicky’s old bedroom. It was safe to say that when Nicky and Aaron found them, it wasn’t pretty. Andrew had intentionally fucked with his biological mother’s car when he figured out she was treating Aaron like shit: in return, Aaron had wrenched Drake (a marine seal) off his brother and kicked the life out of him.

Only he didn’t die. He went to jail. Aaron went to trail and claimed self-defence on his brother’s behalf. Everything was meant to be fine.

Eight years later, Andrew was here, sitting on the couch as he reminisced upon horrid memory after horrid memory, knowing that his old demon was loose once more.

“I’ll kill him.” Neil murmured.

Andrew finally looked at him. “Neil.”

He looked up. “I would kill him a thousand times over, Andrew.”

Andrew said nothing, his head falling to rest on Neil’s shoulder. By the amount of tension coiled in Andrew’s shoulders, he must have been holding this in all day.

Neil set his jaw, unwillingly to lie to himself. He was going to commit a self-serving, premeditated murder.

His father would be so proud.

When it finally happened, Andrew was coming home from dinner at Nicky and Erik’s. Neil was still working, somewhere in the depths of the city, but it was fine. Andrew had been able to distract himself from the weight pressing on his shoulders for a few hours with his cousin.

A whole month since Drake - no, Spear - had been out on parole, and Andrew hadn’t heard a peep. For a while Andrew had thought that perhaps Spear would go to Aaron instead, the man who’d bashed him but not good enough to avoid jail, but Aaron had heard nothing. Chicago was way too far from South Carolina, where he’d been held for his crimes.

But Baltimore wasn’t.

He unlocked his front door and felt the way it was loose, too loose, observing the scratches on the bolt’s screws. Andrew grit his teeth, pulling out the knife from his armband and wishing he’d brought home his gun, to swing the door open.

As expected, the apartment was dark. But not empty.

“Evening, AJ.”

“Isn’t this dramatic,” Andrew insisted, though his insides were twisted with fear. Don’t lock up. Don’t lock up. Don’t -

“I was waiting for you. I’ve missed you.”

Andrew punched the lightswitch hard enough for the wall to buckle: it held, and instead revealed something worse than Drake and his sneer.

Neil was bound to a dining chair with cuffs Andrew kept, just in case, a tie around his mouth. He looked incredibly woozy. Andrew wanted so desperately to go to him, but Spear himself was sat on the arm of their new couch, elbows braced on his knees. Andrew hated his slick grin and his knowing smile and his soulless fucking eyes. He couldn’t believe he’d almost killed himself over this man, thinking at least he would die knowing what a mother’s love felt like.

A mother’s love shouldn’t have cost Andrew a thing, let alone nearly everything. Those scars on his arms were warped with time and a long journey to healing, and Drake wasn’t going to take that away from him again.

“You learned a few tricks in prison,” Andrew acknowledged.

“You snatched yourself a husband-to-be,” Drake sneered. “How cute. I knew you’d liked it all along.”

Andrew’s hand twitched. “You’re in violation of your parole, Drake. I’m going to arrest you.”

“You’re a cop?” Drake spat out a laugh. It was guttural and wrong. Neil winced. “Well, ain’t that just funny.”

“Funny how I, the boy who’d had nothing and was still taken from, ended up with a fulfilling life, finding family and friends and a purposeful occupation, whilst you, a boy who’d had everything and more, took your life for granted and ended up in the slammer for eight years, with more to come? Hilarious. I agree.”

“I should’ve crushed your skull eight years ago,” Drake laughed. “No matter: I’ll make up for it now.”

Neil met Andrew’s eyes as his hands fiddled with the cuffs. Keep talking.

“Why, Drake?” Andrew’s voice cracked. “You had Cass. School. Friends. Everyone liked you. What drove you to ruin your own life?”

“I did have everything I could’ve ever needed,” he said, teeth oily as he grinned. “But what I wanted was something I couldn’t have. Till it occurred to me that I didn’t need to have it. I just needed to take it.” He sneered, putting his hands to the arm of the couch as he readied to stand. “Did it hurt you, little AJ? Because I hope it did. I always liked it best when you bled -”

“Then I’ll make sure that you get what you’re owed, Drake Spear,” Neil said softly, balancing his knife between his fingertips. Its blade rested against Drake’s throat, Neil free of his cuffs and gag.

The man froze.

“Best practise is putting things away after you use them,” Neil advised, lifting a cloth to Drake’s mouth and nose. The man’s eyes rolled to the back of his head as he slumped over, falling to the ground with a heavy thud.

Andrew sucked in a gasp of air, watching as Neil cuffed the man’s wrists behind his back and stood with a boot pressed to his neck, should he wake up.

From under the couch, Neil drew out a large tarp and his knives. Andrew closed his eyes momentarily. By the time he’d opened them, the coffee table had been flipped as a make-shift torture device, the tarp covering the carpet beneath. Neil was testing the sharpness of his cleaver against the tip of his finger: satisfied, he turned around to look at Andrew. “Help me roll him?”

Andrew looked at the man, hollowed out. “I was going to take him in.“

“What good is that?” Neil demanded, throwing the cleaver back into his pile. “He’ll go back to jail for another four to six months for violation of his parole, unless he tries to -” Neil screwed his eyes shut. “No. No, I won’t let him touch you again. And if you suggest some sort of self-sacrificing bullshit to have him locked up for good, I won’t buy it.”

“He won’t get out on parole again -”

“That is not worth a fifteen year sentence that he’ll worm his way out of again, letting the cycle will just repeat itself. No, Andrew. He is never going to touch you again. He will never look at you again.” His fists shook with a quiet fury. “I won’t let it happen.”

“Neil,” Andrew stepped forward. “You need to let me do my job.”

His fiancé brandished a knife from god-knows-where. “You need to let me do mine! Leave if you must. If your morals put you above killing a horrid man to keep my family safe, then go. But this man is not leaving here alive and whole. I am not letting the man I love subject himself to ruination via an old demon.” He finally looked Andrew in the eye. “Not if I can help it.”

Neil bent over to drag Drake’s unconscious body over to where he needed it, locking his ankles and wrists to the four metal legs of their coffee table. The chloroform wasn’t strong enough to keep him asleep for long, but it didn’t matter. He was secure and doomed by the time he blinked his eyes open.

Andrew watched Neil spin a knife between his fingers.

“Wh - “ Drake coughed. “What? What happened?”

“Not much,” Neil said, lightly. “You merely threatened to maim and kill the man I love, right in front of me.” His smile was the most frightening thing about him. “I don’t like that.”

“No,” Drake struggled against his restraints. “No!”

“For now, I’ll shove this in there,” Neil said, grabbing the tie. “But later I’ll be sure to sever your vocal chords, so you can try and fail to scream, just like you tried to keep him quiet for years. No gag required. Neat, right?”

“AJ,” Drake panted. “Andrew, get this psycho away from me. AJ -!”

Neil shoved the tie into Drake’s mouth. “No. Stop looking at him. Look at me. I’m your biggest problem right now, aren’t I?”

“I’m going to the study,” Andrew muttered, lightheaded. Neil glanced up at him, so he nodded, so minutely that anyone but Neil would’ve missed it.

Neil’s expression softened slightly around the eyes as clear understanding passed between them, bright as day.

Thank you for doing what I couldn’t, Andrew said.

Thank you for letting me, Neil returned.

With a deep breath, Andrew turned away to put the kettle on as Neil got to work.

Working at OBGYN is wild: a collection of shit I've had happen working front desk

Me: *just going to drop off some papers at one of the nurse pods*

My assistant manager: Where's the Barbie doll shoe

Me: wh.....what

My assistant manager: The Barbie doll shoe!

Me: what the hell are you talking about

One of our nurses: *holds up a little cup with said shoe*

Me: why do we have that

Nurse: Somebody was using a Barbie for some fun and this got stuck in there.

Me, a dumbass trying to just make it through my first week of work: .....k

Old man: Ma'am, is this where Dr. [im so not putting names in here yall dont need to find me]'s office is?

Me: Yes sir how can I help you.

Old man, holding up a Menagie Tois wine box and grinning: Yes, see, he prescribed these sex toys to my wife. But now she's only interested in being intimate with these. So I'd like to return these so she can start being intimate with me again.

Front desk girl next to me (L1): *internally screaming*

Package gets dropped off in the afternoon for one of our doctors. Its tall, slightly heavy and in a janky box. I run it over to his nurse who's at a different pod for the day to ask her where she wants it.

Nurse: Oh yeah you can just put it at my desk. Its sperm for an iui.

Me, holding back every joke I can think of with the strength of a thousand suns: sure

L1: so howd it feel carrying a tank of sperm back snd forth?

Me: like i dont get paid enough????

Older lady comes in, and hands me a plastic bag.

Me, mentally: not how that works but...okay

I go to drop it off with her nurse

Me: Have you ever tried arguing with an old lady

Nurse: Okay fair, but what am I even supposed to write?? Thanks for returning your pessary, you don't have to pay for it??? What the hell?

Me: How's your day going, Doc?

Doc: Oh, yknow, going over as well as a pregnant pole vaulter.

L1: Soo...you see that guy over there

Me: yeah??

L1: So i think he just did his sample in the mens room.

L1: No like....a sperm sample

Me, knowing full well our mens room is one of two public bathrooms on this floor: ....he did what where now

did yall ever think about transguys with this titty project going on? i mean i think its a good thing that people protest but i would rather not see any chests on my dashboard especially when i have the safe mode on because it triggers my dysphoria and makes me want to die?

I’m sorry for the delayed reply, Anon, but I felt this deserved a more thoughtful answer than anything I could dash off before work in the morning. I want to start by saying that I’m going to try and consider this from a couple of angles while remaining sensitive to your issues, but as a cis woman I’m well out of my area of knowedge here, so I’ll apologise in advance if I fuck up (which I probably will). One of the titty protest posts I reblogged yesterday was made by a trans man showing photos of his chest before and after top surgery, so if I do make a hash of this, @desperatelyseekingcannibals may be able to give you a more appropriate repsonse from a more sympathetic perspective.

The whole point of this protest is that nobody’s body is intrinsically disgusting, shameful, sinful or wrong. That should apply equally to everyone, whether male, female, cis, trans or non-binary. Nobody should be feeling they have to hide their body away because it’s somehow unacceptable just for existing the way it is.

First world media feeds us all a very specific diet of near-nudity. We get to see swimsuit models and actors in sanitised settings, and everyone else is supposed to stay mostly covered for most of the time. It hurls at us these images of what a man is supposed to look like and what a woman is supposed to look like, and they all fit a particular template.

Maybe if we could all walk around naked and it wasn’t an issue, maybe if we all saw the variety in how people look, maybe if we daily saw men with moobs and women with A cup chests and intersex people being the significant proportion of the population that they actually are, maybe we wouldn’t have that fixed idea of what ‘men’ or ‘women’ are supposed to be. Maybe we wouldn’t attach our idea of gender so firmly to how much body fat a particular person has stored between their pectoral muscles and their nipples. Maybe you’d be able to look at yourself now and see a man who has a bigger chest than some other men, but a perfectly recognisable man all the same.

Maybe that’s too much to ask. But we can hope, right? And I know that we’ll never get there if nobody ever tries to change anything, if we all just accept the status quo.

Political protest is, by it’s nature, a heavy hammer. It’s designed to make an impact by inciting instant emotional reactions in people, and then (hopefully) having them more closely examine their reactions. I wonder if it’s possible to have a political protest that won’t sometimes unintentionally incite unwanted reactions in people who were never its target? Clearly your reasons for not wanting to see naked female breasts are different from the reasons of the people we’re hoping to show their own hypocrisy to, and when I think about it, you’re probably not alone. There are other people out there with forms of body dysphoria, for other reasons, who will have their own set of bodies they don’t wish to see. Should we all be hiding our bodies away to avoid causing a reaction in someone with body dysphoria rather than because followers of the Abrahamic religions say we should? It would be a better reason for us all to cover ourselves, but would it be reason enough?

I’m truly sorry for everything you must be suffering through, which I can’t ever begin to understand. I hope you’re able to find all the support you need, and that you’re eventually able to transition to whatever point works for you, where you’ll be able to feel entirely comfortable and confident in your own body. And as hard as it must be, please try to remember that you are you. You know exactly who you are, and you’ll always be that person, even if what you see in a mirror doesn’t fit with what the world keeps telling us all we should be.

Personality

Margo is a force to be reckoned with. Her parents raised her to have a voice and she does, never stays shy from what she’s thinking and is quick to level things into arguments when people don’t agree with her. She very often acts on impulse and can be quite insensitive, though when someone tells her what she’s doing is wrong she makes an effort to change her ways. Despite trying her best, Margo always seems to succumb to the urge to fight those who oppose her, with the werewolf gene active, she’s had a problem with her attitude and is often more violent than need be. Most people are quick to assume things about her based on how she acts, calling her just a shallow person, but the truth is that Margo has always cared about those around her and gets attached to people very easily; she is always thinking about ways to help others, solve problems, and make things better. She is quite friendly and charismatic, but once someone gets on her bad side it is really hard for her to see them in a positive light again, holding onto grudges like her life depends on it and never forgiving easily. Margo also loves being in the spotlight, she likes the thrill of doing new things and quite often puts herself in dangerous situations because of it. Being an outdoorsy person, Margo likes going on hikes and loves seeking adventure, often dragging her friends along.

Past

MJ was born out of wedlock, her parents lived together for the most part but never married. Her father travelled a lot so she was mostly raised by her mother. She grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, her life being one of a regular kid, she had lots of friends, went to school, and was even part of the local girl scouts. Margo excelled in school, and soon developed a passion for math and science which her parents supported quite instantly, signing her up for afterschool classes and getting her private tutors, education was always her mother’s main priority. She was raised to be an individualist and self-sufficient, her mother always treating her as an equal, teaching her from a young age how women were seen in the world and to never be any less than who she is. Her mother was strict, sometimes expecting a little too much from young Margo, it was her father who balanced things out, whenever he was home they would go on adventures together, and his father would tell her all kinds of stories from his travels. They went to family camping trips quite often, and would always value the time they had together as a family.

Her father told her about the werewolf gene when she was young as a way of prevention for her not to do anything to awake it, she was an explosive kid, but now her actions had a big consequence. She calmed down, but it resulted in her suppressing her anger, which would lead to more violent outburst whenever she snapped. Margo realized very early on that she could use exercise as an outlet for her anger and quickly signed up for martial arts and boxing classes, which she continued taking up until her transformation.

At 16 she triggered the gene. A fight had been initiated by a group of strangers trying to rob her and her friends, and in the middle of the fight Margo pushed one of them off and over the railing of the parking garage they were at, resulting in his death. She was mortified because she knew what this meant, and the memory stayed with her, branding her a killer.

Her father now had a new role to play, he had to teach her everything there was to know, revealing that he too had triggered the gene and that’s why he was always gone. Her mother knew as well, and feared that this situation would ruin her daughter’s life. She learned though, it wasn’t easy, but she learned how to live with it, she refused to let the curse dictate her life.

After graduating high school, Margo opted into going to a local college so that she could stay close to home, so if anything happened she could at least ask her parents for help, this changed though, when her father suddenly passed away just two years after she started college, and she starting feeling helpless again.

Present

With her father’s passing, Margo became less interested in school, and more interested in her father’s hidden life as a werewolf and the possible secretes he had. Officials called his death an accident, but she refused to believe that, knowing her father too well and the precautions that he took. Her interest increased when a few months before her graduation, a letter addressed to her father arrived at the family home. The letter disclosed that Margo had a half-sister, she was excited yet nervous and confused, the idea of her father having another child made her upset but having a sibling was also something she’d always wanted. After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering, Margo thought that traveling to Mystic Falls with the excuse of getting her Masters at Whitmore College would be the perfect opportunity to meet her new found sister. So she hugged her mother goodbye and booked a one-way ticket, thrilled to start a new life away from home and curious to see if this new adventure would reveal more about her father’s life.

Charlotte Fell

Half-sister. They share the same father but were both unaware of each other’s existence until Margo found the letter Charlie sent to their father. Neither of them know much about each other, but they’re both making an effort to get to know one another.
