Hi. So, to start, i dont know the difference between oneshot and short fanfic, im not used to those words yet, im sorry ;n; so make it whichever one of those two you feel like and would have fun with! Id like a nice little story to read, not just headcanons alone if possible.

Ive been thinking about this idea that takes place after Kazuichi Soda gets yelled at by Sonia in the Dangan 2 game, and they all storm off in their own directions. But then, reader tries to go comfort Kaz and one thing leads to another~

I suppose a touch of angst would be appropriate for such a story, but i dont want it to be just that, or too focused on that. Thats the lead up to the NSFW, which is the focus.

Reader goes and finds Kaz in the night after everyone went seperate ways, comforts him, they talk, hes probably a bit snippy, but then calms down. These 2 were buddies, not dating, but then all the ~stuff~ happens, and, you get the rest. Sexy stuff ought to cheer the man up lol. You fill out the "how" of this scenario. Howd they end up in bed? Have fun with it.

Im sure reader would feel bad for Kaz, not wanting him to be in distress. Maybe reader has been secretly pining for Kaz, but that doesnt HAVE to be a detail, im kinda making this all up quickly, throwing in lots of details, and you decide what sticks~ The others on the island didnt see each other for the rest of that night, so they could definitely get alone time no problem. Maybe after he calms down a bit, reader comes up behind him and hugs him, sweet and somber.

Idk about location, because the others would be in their cottages, but the motel should be free at this point, so maybe there so they can be loud and not care.

Can i PLEASE have reader taking kaz's hat the morning after because her hair is so messed up, like "gimmi that shit, your hair looks fine as hell, im the mess today i need hat." Maybe something in the end about them trying to act natural the next day around the others, you know? Perhaps some hickeys gave it away or somethin, whatever you think up and wanna write is cool.

Gender neutral or female reader is cool if ya dont mind. And idk what genre to label it as like you asked in your rules. Slight angst with mostly NSFW? Idk how to genre, i apologize ;-;

Also, difference between short fanfic and oneshots: It might be made up by me??? For me a short fanfic is multiple parts, 10 at tops, each part being around 1600 words at least?? So the entire fic is maximum around 16k words.

Another day on the islands, another day to end in chaos. Just the usual Jabberwock Island drama in the middle of a damned killing game.

Everything was fine, everything was going well, until Kazuichi decided to express his love for Sonia again. And this time, it did not end well. And you were the one that was in charge of finding Kazuichi. Again.

"Just make sure he doesn't do anything stupid" Hajime asked you and sent you off on your way.

"I will!" you replied and took went on a journey to find your buddy. Ever since you've ended up in this situation, he made you weirdly comforted. His goofiness, his fun aesthetic, everything. Except for when he was driving Sonia, and after that everyone else, insane. Even you struggled to understand his obsession with her, but brushed it off. It's his business not yours. It's his business not yours...

When you started looking for him, the sun was still up, but soon the moon took his place on the sky with the stars and you were completely clueless about his whereabouts.

"Let's see..." you thought to yourself. "What did I miss...?" The locations quickly ran through your head. Library, check. Theater, check. Cottages, check. First island entirely? Check.

"The motel!" you said out loud. "Well, I doubt he'd be there but... it's worth a shot" you wondered and decided to give it a go. You made your way to the third island and immediately headed for the motel. The abandoned looking building looked the same as ever, and the smell of musk was just as strong as before. You slowly opened the door and called out to the seemingly empty building.

"Kaz? Are you here...?" you walked inside and started looking around. "I just want to make sure you're okay, bud... I've been looking for you for hours..."

No response.

You continued to walk around the dusty place, stopping every now and then in front of doors.

"Kazu? Please be here, I have no other idea where to look for you... We can do whatever you want... Just be okay..."

Still nothing.

You sighed.

"Fuck, maybe I was wrong..." with a heavy heart you started to get to the exit. "I hope he's alright..." as you started walking away, a door behind you opened. You quickly turned back to see Kazuichi standing in the doorway.

His hair was the usual mess, he cried his eyeliner off.

"I'm sorry" he mumbled. "Were you that worried?"

"It's okay! Oh god, I finally found you..." you said and went back to him. "Thank god you're okay... Would a hug be okay?"

"Yeah..." he replied and you wrapped your arms around him and so did he.

"It's going to be okay... I promise, Kaz... You'll apologise to her tomorrow and everything will be fine..."

"I will..." Kazuichi said. "I... i went overboard... I didn't want to upset her..." he slowly let go of you.

"I suppose... You don't want to go back there, right?" He shook his head in response.

"I don't want to be near anyone right now... Well, aside from you, I guess... But if you don't want to stay, you can go back..."

"No, it's fine" you brushed the offer off. "I'll stay here with you... I promised the others and myself that I'd keep an eye on you..."

"Alright then.. I guess... we can stay here..."

"Do you... uh... want to talk about everything that happened..?" you ask. He stays silent for a bit.

"Let's sit down..." he said and went back to the room he was hiding in. You followed him.

He sat on the bed and gently tapped the space next to him.

"C'mere... Let's have a... chat..." he smiled at you gently and rested his back against the wall. You sat next to him with a curious look as he speaks up.

"So... I know I fucked up... Miss Sonia didn't deserve that" he mumbles, looking down with a guilty expression. "But at the same time.. I... don't really know how else to show her how I feel... My parents never really... taught me how to handle emotions... But it doesn't matter now... She's got real close with that demon lord or whatever he calls himself"

"Kaz..." you sigh. "I know, rejection sucks but... I'm sure you're going to find someone that knows how to take care of you, someone who loves you for you..." you smile at him and pat his shoulder. "Even if that person isn't Sonia... There must be someone out there.."

"Where?" Kazuichi frowns. "I won't ever find my match and you know it... I'm like that one sock at the bottom of the drawer, always lonely and"

You suddenly press your lips on his, making him shut up in the middle of his dialogue.

"That someone is right here, Kaz..." you whisper to his lips. "I may or may not destroy our friendship but I don't care... I am that person..."

"Man... what since when why..." he starts asking every question that comes into his mind. Nonetheless, you quickly. make sure he stays silent.

"Just shut up and enjoy the moment" you kiss his soft lips once again, wrapping your arms around him. Pulling him close, not letting him escape your touch.

Kazuichi's eyes slowly flutter close, as he kisses you back, letting himself go under your touch.

Your hands start to wander around his chest. Slowly caressing each spot through his overall then zipping it down to reach under it...

"Are you surre this is a good idea?" he breathed out.

"Do you feel better?"

"Yes" he whispered.

"Then yes..." you kissed his lips again. "It is a good idea.." You smiled and slowly tugged his overal off his chest.

You now began placing passionate kisses all over him. Starting right under his ears, steadily working your way down his neck, stopping at the collarbone and then repeating the said path in reverse. Now going up, every now and then gently sucking on his skin, leaving hickeys. He let out soft sighs of pleasure, his eyes fluttering after each kiss.

"Let me take care of you too" he tried to switch things up but you stopoped him with a firm expression.

"I am the one comforting you" you took your shirt off, making him blush and his eyes lit up in excitement.

"Actually...Keep going" he said with sparkling eyes, as you went down on him with a sly smile. You kissed him like there was no tomorrow, making sure all of your love went through. All the love, admiration, and comfort. Everything that was boiling inside you whenever you thought about Kazuichi But despite your order, his hands began wandering too. Pushing your clothes down, guiding you into his lap.

"Ride me" he pleaded.

"Any time" you replied and began grinding your hips. Back and forth in his lap. Kazu groaned, feeling the pressure of yourbody. His patience on edge, his mind wishing for the clothes to disappear. Both of you bit down on your lips to keep the silence. , Trembling, shaky breaths leaving his mouth he spoke up again.

"We can be as loud as we want... Just please ride me already" he pleaded again, whining under you. He was so on edge, so impatient. So ready for everything to come crashing down.

"I’ll get right to the point, I promise...” you continued to rock yourself back and forth, putting more and more pressure on his body. Even you started to tremble and placed your hands on his chest for support. Gently grabbing onto his small pecks, feeling muscle tensening at your touch.

"Don't just promise me. Do it"

The next morning the two of you were walking back to the first island. Hand in hand, smiling as the sun was coming up.

"So.... We're together?"Kazuichi asked.

"I am not sure" you replied. "All I know is that..."

The two of you entered the first island. You quickly grabbed his hat and placed it on your head.

"That I need your stupid hat... My hair is a mess..."

"Mine too!" he tried to get his hat back.

"Yours is alway a mess, Kazu. Mine not" you giggled. He rolled his eyes.

"Love you dork,.. And your comforting touch..."

reminder that i am a self-published author and have... several... books out, all available on amazon. kindle is 99c and always will be as cheap as amazon will let me make them. but! let's describe these books. all of them unless otherwise stated have lgbtqia+ characters, often main characters

first there's the pentalogy of hell series. first book is iscariot. the whole main part of the series, not counting novellas and companions, is out. this series is available in hardcover as well as paperback and kindle. it is not as religious as it sounds. mostly it's me co-opting christian mythology?? it's about kids who go to hell and they have a lot of fun there. beyr is also a part of this series as like a companion.

abnormal murders series. first book is serial killers with cookies. second book is coming out SOON. follows justine after her parents are murdered by uh. serial killers with cookies. she gets pretty morally gray as the series goes on. she just loves vigilante justice.

next is columbiner. which is just a little novella about the dangers of those columbine fangirls, essentially. idk how popular it is anymore but when i was in college they were everywhere on tumblr. no lgbt+ rep but then again there's no romance total.

vendettic trilogy! first book is spahn. follows the stupidest bisexual alive as he and his heavy metal band in the early 80s try to navigate "all this demon shit." it's not fanfiction no matter how much it might look like it. first two books are out.

like hell. kinda experimental. follows this kid brendan and his relationship with drew, who is coming from an extremely abusive home. i always describe this one was being about "friendship, revenge, and killing your mom's boyfriend". except they might not actually be just friends.

the crucifixion of craig knox! this is my west memphis 3 book. if you are familiar with the case this will be very familiar. if not, this is about a kid who, through his association with the town goth in the early 90s, is implicated for the murder of a couple of little boys. btw if we're talking about wm3 the trial for the possibility of dna testing is uh. comin up here. let's get those boys exonerated.

next is the aughts boys series which is more of a set of companion novels. the "first" book is one more sad song, which follows zeke in 2004 as he navigates his crush on his best friend after his best friend gets a girlfriend. also he likes skateboarding and hates his dad. the second one is the horror at camp new woods and takes place the summer before omss. it follows elliot at murder camp. the third one is right or wrong and it takes place the year before omss. it follows luke, who's new best friend bullies a kid to suicide and that's a lot. you don't have to read them in order. or all of them. if you just wanna read about murder camp you can do that. there will be more books in the series. like. a lot more.

tinon trilogy! only one book right now, circus wings. an actual fantasy series. follows environmentally-conscious lesbian princess and her guard who is just fed up with her shit.

i have two short story/essay collections. first is rewind, which is just short stories. second is life in anachronism, which also has some creative nonfiction essays.

aaand finally. carl & jimmy. which is just. it's weird. maybe don't read carl & jimmy.

highkey might write some ducktales fics out of spite against my past self

Alright send some dt prompts or something; I mean I'm like super rusty at writing these characters, and I have other projects going on so they'll all be kinda short (I mean I doubt I'll even get to like 50% of the prompts but we'll see how many I recieve) Mainly doing this because I dislike most of my old dt fics and I feel like the fandom deserves better than my old writings so might as well try and make a few fics, right? Anyway so yeah my ask box is open to dt fic ideas (people who follow me for dc or dangan, don't worry, I'll open requests for that in a few weeks or so idk depends how fast I finish other projects lol) Once again would like to say that I am super rusty so apologies in advanced if the characters are a bit off

Also to the person who requested the Tim fic--you know who you are--I promise that I'm writing it and I'll actually finish it, the ending is just a pain to write, but I will finish it I swear-

i hope i dont forget anyone lmao. these are in no particular order just who i remember. also obviously i’ve only been playing for a while (currently at the first scene in the restaurant after monokuma shows up) so these can’t be totally accurate

hajime: seems less stupid than makoto (not that makoto was stupid but sometimes he just acted so dumb out of nowhere) bc he was suspicious of everything, reminds me a little of kyoko?? like maybe he’s an ultimate detective or smth similar

nagito: i don’t trust him. he looks kinda gloomy but then acts very cheerful it almost doesn’t match i cant explain it, like he’s nice but there’s ~something~

chiaki: i liked her but i haven’t seen much of her yet so idk

sonia: she’s very gullible but that’s to be expected, it’s not annoying so i’m cool w her she seems sweet

akane: i don’t have anything against her but i don’t particularly like her either,, she seems very unpredictable yknow?

hiyoko: i don’t like her! sorry i dont wanna insult anyone but lmao she’s just a big bully? sounds like she thinks she can get away w whatever bc she’s cute, haha look at me being awful for no reason! dislike

gundham: weird guy but i lowkey liked him lmao

kazuichi: I REALLY like him. i feel like he’s an easy victim but lowkey hoping he doesnt die. like he reminds me of kirishima from bnha, very carefree and friendly, i liked him

mahiru: don’t like her. i know the 1st game was kinda like this too with hina but her whole ‘you’re a man, you should [whatever]’ really pisses me off

teruteru: hoping he dies <3 hate perverts (at least he was fine w rubbing sunscreen on a man too lmao)

nekomaru: very intense but i don’t have anything against him, kinda cool

ibuki: nothing against her but she seems like the type to want things her way and it might cause problems if that makes sense

peko: haven’t seen much of her but i liked her, very calm and collected (and probably dangerous lmfao) but she looks like she’s v smart too

mikan: she’s sweet n cute but i would not trust her as my nurse AT ALL, clumsy and emotional as hell it confuses me

fuyuhiko: really liked him, although for some reason im convinced he’s a girl dressed as a boy lmao. like maybe its bc of chihiro in the last game but he looks feminine yknow? i was like ‘oh maybe it’s a story of ‘a woman can’t be leader of the yakuza so she’s pretending she’s a guy’ but i don’t know obviously

Ahh thank you, I’m glad you like my blog! 💛 And yeah there isn’t much omo for DR which surprised me! I’ll do most of them, sparing a few I don’t know well (Leon, Sayaka, that spoilery girl from the beginning) or didn’t like (Hifumi and fortune guy)! :

Naegi: I’m not a huge fan of bedwetting, but I agree he definitely would in times of stress. Also he has a kinda weak bladder in general. Soda and stuff goes right through him. For the most part he can manage during trials (even if he tends to rush off as soon as the execution is over), but investigations run even longer so he usually ends up having to take breaks (to the possible annoyance of anyone he’s sleuthing with). When he’s desperate he thinks he’s subtle but absolutely isn’t, constantly squirming and bouncing/rocking on his heels, shoves his hands in his hoodie pocket like he isn’t actually grabbing his crotch, tends to whimper and groan under his breath. Often tries to hold longer around composed/strong ppl like Kirigiri, Byakuya, Sakura and Mondo, but often with embarrassing results. Not too shy to speak up around friends or more casual people if nothing’s going on, but the often serious situations they find themselves in make it more difficult (darting off to pee right after you find out a friend died is both in poor taste AND suspicious). Probably doesn’t have a piss kink. Willing to go in odd places if necessary.

Celeste: Ever poised, she’s the type who wouldn’t want to say anything and just holds it until she can slip away to maintain her dignity. For the most part she knows her limits and doesn’t get desperate often, but during times when she’s heavily invested in a task or just really doesn’t want to leave, she may overestimate her abilities, since she’s convinced she can ‘simply adapt’ to the increased pressure and ignore it until a more convenient time. Since she has a great poker face she usually manages to avoid letting on that anything’s wrong even if she’s absolutely dying, but once she gets close to or actually is wetting herself, the act falls apart and she gets really panicked and flustered. Around ppl that annoy her (like Hifumi or Byakuya) though, her temper will flare instead and she’ll lash out, converting all of her embarrassment into rage at them for somehow causing/witnessing the event (even if they had nothing to do with it). She’s extremely embarrassed when wetting herself (and also disgusted), but will try her best to play it off afterwards like it isn’t a big deal (again, with a speech about adapting and going with the flow), but her voice is noticeably shaky and she probably cries as soon as she’s alone. Would rather die/wet herself than go in odd places.

Also I kinda like the idea of her teasing other ppl when they’re desperate if they’re alone together (maybe a slight omo kink, or just bc she likes controlling ppl). Preferably Byakuya or Kirigiri (idk why those are just my two fav pairings for casual fun times with her).

Kirigiri: Always composed, aims to stay that way. Usually slips off without a word because it’s private business anyways. If asked when it isn’t a big deal, she’s fine with saying where she’s headed, but once she gets desperate enough she’ll feel self-conscious of ppl knowing how bad it is and makes up a lie instead. If a restroom isn’t available or it’s a serious situation, she would rather die than breathe a word, and will do her absolute best to avoid giving off any signs of her issue until she’s literally on the verge of wetting herself. Might work up the trust to tell Naegi if they’re close enough by that point, maybe Celeste, Sakura or Aoi if Naegi isn’t around and she knows it’s Ask For Help or Wet Yourself, but she’s just as likely to stay quiet if her proper nature gets the best of her. Refuses to hold herself under any circumstances, tends to just use her legs to help stave off the urge. Due to her resourceful nature, she will consider using odd things/places as a last resort, although she also has a chance of freezing up when attempting to actually go, since she’s nervous and isn’t used to it (personally, I LIVE for the idea of Naegi helping her with this and trying to relax her while she’s like, actually whimpering and showing vulnerability for the 1st time).

Might have a piss kink bc I do like the idea of her being attracted to something that’s the opposite of what she is (messy, juvenile, vulnerable). Also consider her genuinely wanting to help Naegi when he’s desperate but at the same time she’s really tuned on and praying it doesn’t show.

Chihiro: So shy oof, will never breathe a word and is really good at not giving any signs until he’s suddenly pissing himself. Would definitely cry and be mortified, needs lots of comfort afterwards (luckily p much everyone gives it to him). Practiced at holding for LONG stretches of time thanks to his secret making things inconvenient, and also because programming takes a ton of time in single sittings and he doesn’t want to get up and wreck his train of thought. I think he actually would be the type who has a huge closet kink, gets turned on by desperation and holds, fantasizes about wetting in public a lot, but would actually die and hate if it happened for real.

Mondo: Bladder of steel actually, takes great pride in this. He’ll often tease others for being weaker. When he does get desperate, he won’t whine pathetically or hold himself, but he will get snippy and make a few complaints about it. Has no qualms about pissing outside or in anything else, even if there are people around. If he did wet himself, it would be a blow to his pride, but he’d eventually get over it (it helps that ppl are too afraid to tease him unless they want a beating). I could see him having a piss kink for both sides, and also being into 'marking’ his lover.

Taka: Will ask as soon as he needs to go bc there’s no point putting it off, but if someone tells him no then that’s it. The answer is no and he’ll hold it without protest until he’s literally leaking, then maybe he’ll work up the nerve to choke out a plea. If denied again he’ll hold on as long as physically possible, only to finally lose control and be mortified. Thinks he’s good at hiding desperation but is even more obvious than Naegi. Has a decent enough bladder capacity, but once he has to go, he has to GO. Like right then. He can’t stand bothering ppl or being disrespectful, so he would refuse to use anything but a toilet (maybe he’d go outside if there was enough cover and he was coaxed into it). No piss kink at all, would be baffled by the concept.

Sakura: Bladder of Steel (stronger than Mondo). Shows no real sign of desperation, even up to the end. When it gets bad she’ll start sweating though, and her posture is even stiffer than usual. Is actually pretty shy about bringing up her need (both bc of how strong she’s supposed to be and just bc she’s bashful), but she will if she knows she’s at risk of wetting herself. More likely to tell Aoi than anyone else, or maybe Naegi. Will never hold herself bc tbh those thighs can already crush together enough to hold it. Might go outside or in odd places if no one is around and she absolutely can’t wait, altho she is embarrassed af (and it’s kinda hard to hide when you’re that big o o f). Has no piss kink and is actually a bit disdainful of it, altho she would never shame a partner if they confessed. Might do it once in a while for them if asked.

Aoi: Will be the first to tell you the blue pool dye thing is just an urban legend. She’s the girl who whines for all of her friends to come with her when she has to pee, makes a lot of jokes the whole time. Not super weak bc she has to hold it on jogs and stuff, but she tends to drink a lot and doesn’t really like to hold past a certain point. Not shy at all about mentioning her need unless it’s a very grim situation, and if prevented from going she will dance around a bit, cross her legs, maybe a quick crotch grab, while still whining the whole time bc it helps distract her. Will use anything and go anywhere if it’s bad enough, too chill to care as long as ppl promise to keep their backs turned. Might have a mild omo kink.

Byakuya: Doesn’t go out of his way to admit his need, but will walk off and say so if it’s a fairly casual situation. Has a harder time hiding it than Kirigiri and Celeste despite also being uptight, bc his temper flares up and he gets extra snippy if he has to go, which usually clues ppl in. Also he taps his foot/jiggles his leg CONSTANTLY. Wouldn’t touch his crotch unless he was literally wetting himself, but will cross his legs/bend at the waist. Refuses to go anywhere but a proper restroom. Wetting himself is humiliating and he would brush off any comfort and storm off to be by himself. Probably takes his anger out on Touko. Has zero piss kink to speak of, will spit on you if you suggest it.

Touko Fukawa: Can’t stand ppl knowing she has to go, would probably kill over if anyone mentioned it. She fidgets a lot when desperate, but ppl actually don’t notice bc she already acts pretty weird and fidgety and is so closed off anyways. Wouldn’t dare leave if she was supposed to be with a group of ppl, but the second she’s alone she’s making a dash for it. She’s used to holding for a pretty long time (too anxious to leave during class, long writing sessions at home, etc.), and even then if she’s determined enough to avoid embarrassing herself, she can hold longer. Probably the only one who can (and does) let out tiny leaks in order to hold longer, and has exceptional control. During moments of terror though, she fear wets, which mortifies her. Does not have a kink in the slightest, it grosses her out.

Genocider Sho: Urine doesn’t bother her at all, which is good since sometimes she wakes up only to find Touko pissed herself. Has the same capacity, but is much more outspoken when she needs to go. Complains a lot, exaggerates her body language and cracks jokes, might get cranky if it’s inconvenient for her. However, she doesn’t care if she loses control, and might do it on purpose just to piss somebody off. She has a HUGE piss kink. Be it herself as the victim for her own pleasure, or her getting to dom somebody else and force them to hold (BYAKUYA). She’s also a big slut for watersports. Sometimes she does this to have fun and get filthy, then makes herself sneeze and switch afterwards just for the sake of fucking with Touko.

Junko: Absolutely has a piss kink, loves to tie ppl up and watch them squirm and blush until they soak themselves. When she has to go she’s very vocal, bouncing around and groaning, whining, playing it up and holding herself to put on a show. Would be fine to go anywhere tbh, but pretends she only accepts proper bathrooms so that she has an excuse to hold it longer. Doesn’t care if she wets, but insists she gets cleaned up and in new clothes right away bc she also cares about looking pretty.

for the peeps who follow me for fanfiction

I figured I might as well give you guys a little update because I honestly don’t know how long stuff will take and I don’t leaving you guys out of the loop

Lots of stuff is just happening at the moment, mostly school. Exams are literally right around the corner and the homework load is big, so whenever I get a break from that stuff I don’t really feel in the mood to do writing, because in my head it feels like even more work (even though it’s supposed to be my hobby and I’m supposed to enjoy it and that fact really annoys me).

Ch 15 of FTUH has hit a bit of a rut, I really need some time to dedicate to working that out and I just don’t have that time at the moment. I’ll see if something can be done during the Easter holidays.

I’ve actually finished Ch 2 of Seven Seas of Despair. It’s just in the process of being proofread and then I’ll edit a few bits and that’ll be done. Only issue with that is my proofreader is also busy with school and upcoming exams soooo little progress with that as well. It’s unfortunate but I can’t do much about it.

I’m also trying to write a separate Dangan Ronpa oneshot I guess? I’m trying to write something different from these big stories to see if that’ll get me in the writing mood again. It’s kinda going all right? Like I’ve got a prompt and it’s like 2/3′s of the way written? Idk, I thought some of you might be interesting in hearing about that.

Soooo yeah just wanted to let you guys know the state of things. I still really want to continue these stories and I feel bad for making you guys wait but that’s how things are at the moment. Like I said, hopefully I’ll have more time during Easter and I’ll see what I can get done.

hey so! @iamg1004 asked me about Danganronpa -what it is, any warnings, how long it is, how to get into it, etc etc- so here’s a very long answer under the cut

WHAT IS IT?

“ Danganronpa is a series of "high-speed mystery action adventure" visual novels created by Kazutaka Kodaka, and released by Spike (Now Spike Chunsoft) for the PSP, PS Vita and Steam. The games combine mystery-solving with elements of shooting and even rhythm gameplay.” -TVtropes

basically, the “main” danganronpa games (there’s 3 of them, i’ll get into the other stuff afterwards) are murder-mystery visual novels (i.e. videogames that are much heavier on dialog than gameplay) the premise is that there’s this academy: Hope’s Peak Academy/Kibougamine (the thing is that the game had fan translations before the official translations, so fans use different terms for stuff hah) that recruits high school students that are the best at one specific field. (the official translation is “ultimate”, but a lot of people, myself included, use SHSL, for the literal translation of Super High School Level). the SHSL Swimmer, the SHSL Programmer, etc etc (some of the titles are pretty... out there, but you gotta keep things interesting, i guess). the newest batch of Hope’s Peak students get trapped in the apparently deserted academy (~~plot~~), and are told that they’ll only be freed if they murder one of their classmates, and if they’re not caught. that is, after a murder happens, there’s a Class Trial (the most interactive aspect of the game- this is the part that is fully voice-acted), where you attempt to figure out who did it. at the end of a trial, people vote for a culprit, and the rules are: if the culprit gets the most votes, he/she gets executed. if people vote wrong, however, everyone except for the culprit will be executed, and the culprit will be allowed to leave freely. (i think the official translation of culprit is “blackened”, bc it’s a translation of a Japanese pun. idk). and of course there’s the mystery of solving who put them all in this situation

so! those are the premises of the main 3 games: Dangan Ronpa, Super Dangan Ronpa 2 (officially translated as danganronpa 2, but a lot of us still call it SDR2 after the original title), and New Dangan Ronpa V3. however (other than a ton of light novels, none of which i’ve read) there’s two other noteworthy things: Danganronpa: Another Episode (Absolute Despair Girls) (a videogame) and Danganronpa 3: The end of Hope’s Peak Academy (an anime). i guess DR:AE and DR3 are not necessary to understand NDRV3 (don’t take my word for it, though, i’m still only at chapter 2 of NDRV3). so there’s two choices:

Danganronpa > Danganronpa 2 > New Danganronpa V3 or:

Danganronpa > Danganronpa 2 > Danganronpa: Another Episode > Danganronpa 3 > New Danganronpa V3

Danganronpa: Another Episode is a videogame, but instead of a murder-mystery visual novel it’s kinda like... a shooter? starring the sister of the first game’s protagonist. so, if you want to understand the story, i guess you could find a Let’s Play, skip the gameplay and just watch the cutscenes :P (there’s plenty)

Danganronpa 3 is an anime with two parts: Side Future (mirai-hen) and Side Despair (zetsubou-hen). the order is like. Future Ep 1 > Despair Ep 1 > Future Ep 2 > Despair Ep 2, etc etc. and then one Side Hope at the end i think

basically, DR:AE fills in the gap between Danganronpa 1 and Danganronpa 2, while Danganronpa 3 tells you a little of what happened before both games (Side Despair) and after both games (Side Future). it also features a little of DR:AE’s characters. so i guess they’re only required watching if you become really attached to the DR1 and DR2 cast and wanna know what happened to them! :p

oh, one last thing: DR1 has an anime adaptation, but it’s generally agreed to be bad (you can’t satisfactorily cram 6 mysteries into 13 episodes...). if you wanna watch it, watch it afterwards, don’t spoil the game for yourself

ANY WARNING?

oomph, yeah. it’s very heavy on fanservice (the 1st game, not so much), especially at the expense of female characters. i personally shrug it off easily (it bothers me, but it’s not a dealbreaker), but it’s worth mentioning (also bad shit happens but that goes without saying, it’s a murder mystery). DR:AE, however, very heavily deals with child sexual abuse/sexualization as a main theme, and DR:AE became very divisive because a lot of people thought it was treated so flippantly that it crossed the line into uncomfortable “fanservice” sometimes. (i’m personally in the camp of “they seem to be criticizing it, but jfc do i have to put some big doses of good faith into it”). it also deals with child abuse in general. umm... some other minor stuff: at some point there’s a character that people can feel is a parody of people with Dissociative Identity Disorder. there’s also a character that caused a lot of heavy arguing about their gender, but that’s more of a fandom thing. oh, also this isn’t really a warning, but so it doesn’t catch you by surprise: the blood is hot pink, apparently because the age rating in Japan is lower if the blood isn’t red. shrugs

IS IT TIME CONSUMING

eehh.... well, i guess that depends on how much time you have on your hands. each of the main games has 6 chapters, and let’s say each of them is 5 hours long. that’s about 30 hours for danganronpa (ofc it varies on how completionist you are), another 30 for danganronpa 2, another 30 for new danganronpa v3. let’s say 20 hours for Another Episode (though a good chunk of it is shooter gameplay). and Danganronpa 3 is 24/25? anime episodes, which are 25 minutes each or so. so, there’s certainly quite a lot of it, but i wouldn’t call it, say, homestuck levels of daunting

IS IT GOOD

well that’s just personal opinion isn’t it :p of course, i personally do like them, but i understand they’re not for everyone. i think danganronpa is very good at creating interesting characters but often falls short in developing them, which, i guess at least is fitting for the story since 70% of the cast gets killed off in the span of a few days. but there’s a lot of meat there if you enjoy fan content and analysis, that’s for sure

as i said, danganronpa is a series of videogames BUT i personally haven’t played em! and actually... every friend i know that is into danganronpa got into it through let’s plays instead of playing it themselves. that’s the benefit of a visual novel, i guess, that watching it is very close to playing it. the only real change is that if you play you get to solve the mysteries yourself i guess, but you can still do that with videos if you wanna :p so, if you wanna get into it through playing, then all i can say is “buy it”, but if you wanna get into it through LPs like the rest of us heathens, I’M YOUR WOMAN (these are all silent LPs, if you’re the kinda person who enjoys commentary, shrugs. i think NicoB is the most popular danganronpa Let’s Player, but I found him kind of annoying haha. nothing against him, he’s just not my style)

okay, here’s the thing: this game came out about a month ago, and it’ll be translated by NISAmerica in September 20-something. any fan translation of the game is still ongoing. i mean... if you start getting into danganronpa now, by the time you’ve gotten into ndrv3, either the NISAmerica translation will be very close, or fan translations will be very advanced, so i wouldn’t worry about it just yet. but just in case, the two best i’ve found

Jess is bilingual, living in Japan, and she translates everything very good and very fast as she plays. She’s the one I’m currently watching (also i have fun using twitch instead of youtube and watching the chat’s reactions :P)

For a silent, subbed-instead-of-spoken translation, this person’s- but I don’t personally watch it, so I can’t tell you whether the translation is as good as Jess’s

I think they got a real point. How you can suffer and be in pain with a “lie”, a fiction, but also how you can feel joy and hope out of the same lie/fiction.The dillema of fiction, of experimenting with taboo topics, in this example the killing, and questioning how much it plays a part into the reality side.

But in this case, it’s going to another level. Like questioning human existence in SOMA. If you take a real human mind and place it in a robotic body, can it still be called a human existence? Can humans scanned and preserved in a “fiction” still be called human?

In a sense, it’s like they’re blowing up a literal hole into ending the series and opening a path to direct the fans back to reality, or per say, the outside. “Go out there, do the thing, hope out there.”

In a world where your identity and truths and lies are uncertain, you have to pave a way for yourself taking the best out of it all? I’m sure someone will reason this game ending and the analogies way more eloquently, but anyway.

I really enjoyed the story. The extra effort they put on CGs really enrichened everything. I’m not sure how I feel about the big big big plot twist yet. I guess it’s something to slowly digest over time. Can’t say this is my favorite.
