The Shyan Shipping Society Writing Challenge ✍️💕
Hello dear shippers!
My name’s Zhalia, a fanfic writer on archive of our own. you might know me from my stripper!Ryan au, or the cinderella au or from the many comments i leave on your amazing works.
Since October, i’ve been hosting very lowkey writing challenges on the Shyan Shipping Society Discord server. and i figured, i’d let good ol’ tumblr get a piece of it!
Tumblr media
this is a fun lil' challenge to practice your writing with random prompts!
(shout out to @helloitsvehere for making the amazing header here and sorry to keep bugging you on it but it looks really amazing now darling <3)
✨RULES✨
✧ the challenge is held at monthly, we don't want to pressure anyone too much and we want to give you enough time to work! on top of that, the minimum amount of words for this challenge is 50, which is a very low bar, it's no school, this is for fun!! also don't worry if you miss a month.
✧ from the day we set the prompt, you have one month to meet the challenge. with this, we request a chapter or a start. if a prompt inspires u to write more than a oneshot or one chapter, feel free to expand as much as you can outside the challenge! everyone is requested to post their submissions on the same day (so say we start at october 1st, then you're only allowed to submit your submissions on october 31st, no sooner). We then hope to announce the new prompt on, for example, november 1st to continue the cycle, but it may differ at times.
✧ There are no specifications to your writing. you may write however you like, a story, a description, a poem, anything is allowed. you're free to write in any rating, be it G or E-rated. we prefer M/E of course, cause we're thirsty like that. if you’re an artist, you’re free to join too! more elaboration in the FAQ below :D.
✧ if you have ideas for prompts, please DM me on Discord or mail me on [email protected] ! i love to hear em <3 (keep reading for more information on the challenge)
i can’t wait to see all your lovely works! i’m really stoked to see and chat with you and learn all that’s going around in your wonderful minds.
much love,
Zhalia💖
✨FAQ✨
o   What is the Shyan Shipping Society (Server)?
The shipping society is a discord server owned by @bradpistachio where a bunch of shippers gather to chat about anything: their lives; the boys; other fanworks like fanfics and fanart; annoying antis; we have a writing lab to talk about your own works, and much more! The server is filled with amazing artists like madamecrimson, @helloitsvehere, @pizzacastella, sonzaishinai and many more. The server is an active and welcoming community. In the server, I also roll out the updates for this challenge and answer all your questions. Will we see you there?
o   Do i need to join the server to post?
It's not required! The server is a lil' bonus, a place where you can talk with fellow shippers about anything, but also where i will be reminding you of the challenge. We have handful of channels dedicated to this writing challenge, so it might help you out. It's also easier for me to follow, and whenever you have questions i will reply faster there than anywhere else. But, again, it's not necessary.
o   If i join the challenge once, am i required to join every month?
Most definitely not! You're free to join and leave whenever you want. Sometimes a prompt doesn't inspire you, or life dragged you away from writing and that's completely valid! This challenge is supposed to be a fun way to motivate you to express yoursef through your art, but it's not school so don't ever feel pressured :).
o   What tags do i include, what are the ratings we work in?
There are no required ratings and/or tags for you to use. In general, the prompts are all focused on Shyan, but if you'd like to add Standrew as a background relationship, feel free!! If the prompt is Watcher-oriented, but you feel like you need a bit of that spice that Curly brings with him, i encourage you! On top of that, you're free to choose whichever ratings you feel fit best. Personally, i mostly live off of M- and E-rated fics, but if you're uncomfortable with graphic descriptions of anything, and would rather keep it a fluffy G-rated fic, then knock yourself out! I believe you know what's best for your work!
On the shipping server, the prompt will have a set of recommended tags, these are ideas i'd write the prompt in, but they aren't mandatory. If it says 'friends to lovers' but you'd rather write 'established relationship' then feel free! It's your work after all.
o   Is there a minimum and/or maximum word count?
There is a minimum word count of 50 words right now, to show that you're seriously participating (i mean, wouldn't want "he smiled, they kissed, they fucked, the end" as a fic, right?). Your work does not have to be finished in order to fulfill the prompt, you can write one chapter, or one paragraph and edit it later when you have more time. If a prompt inspires you enough to write a long fic about it, don't feel pressured to finish it within a month! Take your time!! All we ask is for you to have written a start, and post that to the collection.
o   i am no writer, but i’d love to make art for this in another way, is that possible?
Of course! originally the challenge was only made for writers, because the server was filled with a majority of writers. however, over the past few weeks we’ve had a handful of artists join our little community as well, people like sonza and @berakangkang. Sonza has blessed us by filling the October prompt as well, so if you’re an artist and you’d like to participate, please join! we love love love your art. honestly. the server goes wild on fanart.
o   When do i post my submission?
Everyone who joins the challenge, posts their submission on the same day. This is the last 48 hours of a month - CET timezone. The next prompt will have been rolled out a day before we open submissions, so you can get familiar with it for a day or two before starting on it.
o   I don't think i'll reach the deadline, now what?
You can contact me privately about this through our discord server - for fast replies - or via my email ([email protected]). I will open the collection for you so you can submit it later. Keep an eye on the deadline though, a challenge won't be reopened a month after the deadline.
o   I have an amazing idea for a prompt, where do i submit it?
On the discord server, we have a channel named 'prompts-and-ideas' where some of these prompts even came from, you can submit them there and @ me so i'd know it's for the writing challenge.
If you don't have discord or don't want to join the server, you're free to mail me your idea with Shyan Shipping Society Prompt Idea as subject! I look forward to your ideas!
here’s the link to the parent collection on Archive Of Our Own, where you can always find the new prompts for the next months, and where you can post your work once i open the collection.
i can’t wait to see your works! i’m very excited to see what you all can come up with <3
ps,
this is the first time i host a writing challenge like this. i’m still learning my way around ao3′s function to make prompt meme challenges, and there may always be little bugs in the system, because i have but a small brain. i rely on carl-bot to remind me to post and open submissions and everything, to keep it running smoothly. i am trying my very best to make this fun for everyone. also i crave feedback, so if you have any comments, complaints, ideas, critique, please hit me up!!
oh and yeah i am very inactive on the tumblrs because i don’t uh catch the vibe of this platform but i’m trying. i’m trying. 👉👈

Godddddd your Worth It reblogs made me miss standrew so so much.
Watching Steven and Andrew wax poetic about the gorgeous food they're sharing while sitting well within each other's personal space has been such a comfort activity of mine since the pandemic began. These soft boys are so comfortable with each other and that gives me lots of Cozy Boyfriends feelings.
I've been trying to fill this void with Andrew's About To Eat videos but they're just not the same. If Worth It is ending like Unsolved (which makes sense if Steven wants to focus on Watcher like Ryan and Shane), I hope they return for one last season so they can end it with a bang.
Thank you so much for providing us with wonderful Worth It/standrew content here ❤️
this ask nearly made me cry akbdkshd
I've rewatched the episodes so many times through quarantine!! they're such a reliable source of serotonin for me :')
it would be really nice if they made another season so they can end it nicely like ryan and shane are doing with bfu... I hope they do it. I've also had trouble filling the void worth it has left behind 😭
I know the fandom's kinda dead but I hope to keep posting about them for a while still. even if my posts are just reblogs of very old posts lmao thank you for still following me!! ❤️

Ask meme time! Pick three fics you have written, post a favorite section of each and explain why it is your favorite. Then, pass it on!
hello nonny! what a wonderful ask to get! <3
1. for my first fic, I’m going to choose my most recent one, which also happens to be the first fic I’ve written for The Locked Tomb series. It’s called Naughty Nuns of the Ninth and, as may be obvious from the title, it’s rated explicit.
I’m going to cheat a little bit and say that the whole thing is kind of my favorite section. it’s the first fic I’ve written in a long, long time that I’m actually happy with! I’m pretty content with the mixture of smutty stuff and humor and I think I did a fairly good job with Gideon’s characterization. also, I got Cute Fiancee to beta it for me, and it was the final push that got her to add Gideon the Ninth to her TBR pile, so victory!
2. for anyone who has been around my blog for awhile, this one won’t come as a surprise. of all the gin joints in all the world, aka the Vegas Verse Standrew fic, is possibly my favorite fic I’ve ever written and definitely one of the ones I’ve put the most work into. it got me through a terrible break-up.
picking a favorite section was very hard, but the rooftop scene in chapter 7, where Andrew and Steven dance to Otis Redding and almost come back together again, is a contender for sure. it’s the angstiest chapter in the story - angst is something I struggle to write, and I didn’t want this chapter to be too melodramatic. I wanted it to be bittersweet and painful and believable, and I think it turned out pretty well!
3. Far From Any Road is a Sterek fic that took me three goddamn years to write and edit, spread across three separate Nanowrimo sessions. It’s heavily inspired by True Detective and my love of true crime and morally ambiguous characters. while there are definitely parts I wish I could rewrite, I am mostly proud of how much work that I put into it.
Chapter 27, which is the penultimate chapter, is probably my favorite. There is a scene where Stiles is shot that I rewrote so many times, and I’m really happy with the result. It’s visceral and gory, which is what I wanted the whole fic to be, so I think it works as a summary of the fic in general.
thank you again for asking! :)

monotone part 1
Tumblr media
here’s the first part of my standrew android au fic entitled monotone!
it’s been years since i wrote an actual story so please be gentle (also my first really bad attempt at a mood board)
this fic is heavily inspired by detroit become human and the life model decoys (LMDs) from marvel’s agents of shield
hope y’all like it!
It was barely noon and potential chaos was already present at the Buzzfeed Research & Development Center, with Annie looking for Steven.
“Steven, I know you’re here!” Annie says as she walks around the chemistry lab, keeping a sharp eye out for the tall man
“Found him.”  Behind her, Adam appeared holding Steven who looked like a six-year-old that was caught stealing from the cookie jar
Annie sighs in relief and dragged the two back to their lab
“Guys come on! I told you it’s not gonna work. The power supply still needs testing” the taller man whines as his friends bring him to their office against his will
“That’s exactly what we’re doing” Adam mentions as he enters their lab, being one of the senior engineers along with Annie, they got the biggest lab in the department. Despite it being filled with the state-of-the-art equipment, in the middle of it all, was their biggest project to date.
“Adam, let’s set it up” Annie instructs and the two immediately gets to work. Running diagnostics, installing the software, and finally, connecting the power supply that Steven built for them.
“Power supply is up and running. It’s ready.” Adam says, flipping a switch nearby and standing in front with Annie and Steven
“Come on…work.” Annie holds Adam’s hand nervously as she stares at their project slowly turn on, meanwhile Steven is silent, waiting for something to happen
Its LED circle flashed yellow for a moment, then finally blue. Then, it opened its eyes. The action earned gasps from all three scientists who were eagerly watching. The glass chamber opened and it stepped out. It studied its surroundings for a moment then finally looked at the three people directly in front of it.
“Hello. I am ILNYCKYJ-001, the first fully functional android. I was built by engineers Adam Bianchi and Annie Jeong to learn how to interact with humans in society.” The android introduced itself with a straight tone
“It works…oh my god, Adam! It works!” Annie squeals in delight as she stares at the android in wonder and pride
“I can’t believe it either” Adam, grinning from the achievement, turns to Steven
“What do you think, Steven?” Steven stares at the android for a moment, as if analyzing every little detail on the android’s face
“It’s amazing…”
“We couldn’t have done it without your help. Steven” Adam gives a pat on the taller man’s back as Annie nods her head
“What should we name it?” Annie approaches the android, examining its LED circle at android’s right temple
“Any suggestions, Steven?”
“Yeah, I have one” Adam faces the android and instructs him
“ILNYCKYJ-001, please register your name” its LED turns yellow, waiting
“Andrew.” Steven says, maintaining eye contact with the android whose LED is back to blue and the android gives a small smile
“My name is Andrew.”

I’m very sorry, sweetheart. Here’s a fluff and comedy list (no angst):

Summary: After Shane makes an "odd" question, Ryan can't stop thinking about the possible implications of it, obsession over the one conclusion most likely to (not) be: Shane is breaking up with him sometime soon.
Rated: T
Commentary: I wrote this one, so here’s a comment in it: “Oh my god!! I’m crying this was so intense and so sweet! That was the cutest [SPOILER] I’ve ever heard of and I loved how you really managed to build up the suspense so eventhough the audience knows it would be something like a proposal it was still tense and interesting leading up to it. Love your fics!”

I was smiling the whole time with how cute they are and aaaah, the idea of Shane kissing Ryan's forehead is so warm and soft, it makes me all sappy and jelly. The last part is so cute, too. Ryan worried for Shane and making him promise to be not die! SO CUTE! I'm gonna read your other fanfic now!”
if we’re gonna do this, we gotta do it now by floatingonthelehigh
Summary: “How did you convince me to come here again?”
“My irresistible charm, of course.”
Ryan’s mouth settles into a hard line. He’s not wrong.
(Shane gets Ryan to come to an old abandoned house with him. One of them, and you’ll never guess who, gets more than a little freaked out. Featuring: pure terror! confessions of love! and a somewhat-terrifying framed photograph of a woman!)

Commentary: In this AU, Ryan and Shane are both teachers, and is the literal best thing in the world. A complete feel better fic, chicken soup for the soul, that doesn’t fall in the category of fluffy and simple. No, it’s so much more. It’s beautiful. It explores an actual relationship between adults and how two people fall in love as they get to know the other better.

maybe, kinda by babbyspanch

“Just leave the corner,” Shane suggests, still chuckling at the sight.

“What do you mean, you don’t know how?” Shane parrots incredulously.
or: Shane and Ryan accidentally get locked inside a Spirit Halloween after-hours.
Rated: G
Commentary: Shane’s POV in this fic is wonderful, It may be my favorite in thew hole fandom. He is so damn funny, and it melts so well with the story, it’s incredible. The dialogues here are great, too, especially because the characterization is very loyal to their actual voices. The plot is original and just fun. You gotta read it.
me and you by saturninemartial
Summary: “Have you ever thought about getting married?”“That’s a loaded question if I ever heard one.”“Never mind, forget I said anything.”
Rated: M

and i’m puffing my chest, getting red in the face by pissedofsandwich
Summary: “Zack’s going to be there?“ Shane asks, masking his… whatever it is he’s feeling in his chest, with nonchalance.
Ryan blinks. “Yes?”
Well, never mind dancing with the fucking sun. He’s Icarus, wings melted and falling face-first into the asphalt.
Or: Shane is definitely not at all jealous of how close Zack and Ryan are getting during the making of Sports Conspiracies. Except that he is.
Rated: T
Commentary: One of my favorite fanfics that also has jealous!Shane and one of the most funniest climax ever. All their co-workers are damn angels, you gotta read this, it’s incredible. Also, kudos to poor Zack having the rage of a jealous Shane Alexander Madej with a cup of coffee in his hands.
Thursday: Turquoise Taupe by shaniacbergara
Summary: Shane Madej’s hometown is…well, a little bit different than most. He and Ryan take a trip there.
Rated: G
Commentary: One of my favorite fics in the fandom. It has an original idea and it’s the first with this crossover that inspired a lot of fun things during the week it was posted. And as for the story, I really like the way Shane and Ryan’s relationship is writen, and how important it is to Shane that Ryan knows where he is from, and his family. The end of this fic is one of my favorites. Enjoy!
breathe out so i can breathe you in by trxshmxuth
Summary: They’ve been tiptoeing around each other for months now, walking on ice so thin that Ryan can practically see the sexual tension swirling and raging underneath. Ryan’s almost afraid that when the ice finally cracks, he’s not going to be able to resurface again.
On their next Unsolved investigation, the ice breaks.
Rated: M
Commentary: Another kinda cute smut fic that I love. I can’t say much because it’s short os you gotta read it, I’m just gonna say– it’s nice. Also, arousal from fear is something… that happens. I love it.
kiss me like you mean it by rocketshiptospace
Summary: “Hi,” Tall man says, taking in the sight in front of him. “I’m sorry, I heard banging and yelling and I just, are you okay?”
“No. Yes. Maybe,” Ryan says, slowly standing back up on two legs again. “My door won’t open.” He eventually ads, when him and Tall man have just stared at each other for a few seconds.
“That’s unfortunate,” Tall man says, smiling at him. He has a really nice smile. “But it happens. It’s an old building, you know. Doors get stuck sometime. Here, let me try,” He steps past Ryan, and places his hand on the door handle. The door swings open like it’s nothing.
or, Ryan’s apartment building plays matchmaker
Rated: G
Commentary: I second this rec. This is such a wonderful AU, so sweet and fluffy, and interesting with this idea that the building they live in is, in fact, kind of alive. And ships them. Yes, a building is all of us. And man– just the situations they are put through, it’s all so good. Incredibly sweet. The ending is wonderful, I love it.
a short history of almost something by cooliohoolio
Summary: "I think I’ll wait another year.“
Shane’s in love with Ryan, and will get around to telling him. One of these days.
Rated: Not Rated (G)
Commentary: This fic is… so damn cute. All of it. The scenes with them out in the grass, looking at the stars, are wonderful. It’s really a cute thing to read for when you are in a bad moment.

you know that werewolf!andrew/witch!steven fic you wrote a while back?? how about a lil drabble/continuation of that? congrats btw buddy, ilu 💚💚💚 -JP, ya boy!
Okay so this one has been in the works for a while, but I decided to do a Shyan continuation of this, as the second part of a series! It’s going to be four parts that are mostly unrelated, but if you want to read the Standrew part, it’s right here, and the series is right here!
@ryanbergarage
Also on ao3!
Ryan is just filling in, doing his buddy Steven a favor while Steve goes on some date with some werewolf that Ryan still hasn’t met. It’s cool, he just guesses that Steven couldn’t get Adam to fill in, or maybe the selkie is busy doing something else, like maybe going back to the water for once - Ryan has no idea about anything in Adam’s life though. Adam is just Steven’s other friend. Ryan is still off on this mental tangent when the doorbell rings, bringing him completely out of his musings. An abnormally tall man stumbles through the shop door and Ryan looks toward the reader to see what he is, even though it still feels like it shouldn’t be any of his business. Vampire, the scanner reads. Interesting enough, he supposes.
“Good evening, let me know if I can help you with anything,” Ryan says in his best customer service voice, the one that Steven actually made him practice with him. The vampire nods but takes a minute to walk up to the counter, kind of looking around the shop oddly. Ryan worries for a ridiculous second that he’s casing the place, but any supernatural worth their salt in Los Angeles knows that Lim’s Witching Wares is beneath the magical protection of two very powerful magic users and a goddamn selkie. If there was anyone Ryan didn’t want to piss off, it would be a selkie.
“I - uh - Steven told me he would have my burdock tempeh ready when I came in… is he here?” the vampire asks, a unsure hand on the back of his neck, and Ryan is immediately, against his better judgement, worthlessly endeared. Ryan gives a good natured smile just to see if it will calm the other down and is delighted when it seems to, the vampire giving a smile of his own. He looks down at the notes Steven left on the monitor of the computer he set up for Ryan, saying something about keeping it going automatically on his date, even though Ryan doesn’t see any of it plugging into anything.
“Uh, okay, so I don’t fill in much. This right here says that you are… Shane Madej? Is that right?” Ryan asks, receiving a nod of confirmation before he continues. “Okay, so, I need to go grab your tempeh from the fridge in the back, and I’ll bring that up here in just sec,” Ryan tells him, turning immediately on his heel and heading exactly where he said he was going to go. Shane is an adorable name for an adorable vampire and Ryan can’t help but want to ask him all kinds of questions. Shane isn’t exactly an old-timey name and Ryan wants to know when he was turned, when he was born, wants to know all kinds of things that aren’t even close to his business. He hands Shane the tempeh over the counter and wonders if Steven scheduled the date for right now on purpose. Sometimes, it seems like the other magic user is a psychic.
“Yeah, thanks… I didn’t catch your name,” Shane says, all smoothness and honey, and Ryan isn’t a weak man, but he might be today. Fucking cute ass vampires and their talking and shit. Who has the time?
“Didn’t throw it. It’s Ryan. Ryan Bergara. And according to Steven’s note, that’ll be… ’$8.99 for the sad vampire, no tax for the government men’ is the exact wording here,” Ryan explains with a grin, delighting in the resulting chuckle. Shane Madej looks good with laughter around his eyes, and Ryan wonders how Steven could call him sad. Ryan wonders what could make him sad, and finds an indescribable desire to curse anyone who had ever hurt this vampire he’s never met in his life. Gross. Affection and shit. What the fuck?
“It really says sad vampire? That’s not the first impression I’d particularly like to make with… someone new,” Shane laughs, turning a bit awkward at the end there, like he meant to say something else. Ryan smiles to fill the space of the silence, ringing it up for Steven’s records more than for any need to, and then he holds a hand out for the money. Shane’s fingers touch his in the interaction, both ice cold and with this moment that’s fire hot, though maybe that part is all in Ryan’s head. There’s no reason for him to be having thoughts like that, but he likes the curve of Shane Madej’s smile, the softness of his eyes.
“It’s not a bad first impression to have. A bit misleading, but it’s all the same,” Ryan remarks as he puts the bills in the register, pulling out a penny to hand the customer. Shane is looking directly at him when Ryan looks up, and he almost startles out of his skin when their eyes meet. There’s something to Shane’s facial expression that makes Ryan feel as if he is stone in his shoes, set on the ground and never to move again. The moment breaks when the bell on the door rings, and Ryan’s eyes flash immediately to the display on the screen: it says selkie. It has to be Adam, which is almost a relief.
“Ryan, I’m back. You can leave, if you want,” Adam says as soon as he’s in the line of sight, looking between Ryan and Shane. The selkie looks as if he only came out of the water an hour or so ago, mostly dry but still river damp around the edges. Ryan nods and places the penny in Shane’s still outstretched hand, leaving the register open for Adam as he rushes out from behind the counter and walks out of the back door at the most casual pace he can manage. One should think he believes that he’ll never see Shane Madej the sad vampire again as he walks out of the door, but he’s not surprised when Shane falls into step with him as he exits the alleyway.
“What do you mean it’s misleading, but not a bad first impression?” Shane asks, tone casual and playful but words all concern and a false sense of contentedness. Ryan knows intrinsically, instinctually, that this answer is important to Shane, and that the answer will change the nature of how they react to each other in the future. Ryan considers his words carefully before just going for honesty. He’s never been good at trickery and high thought and lying for any reason.
“The misleading bit, well, you don’t seem that sad, Shane Madej. But as for it not being a bad first impression? It meant it was that much nicer to make you smile,” Ryan replies, shrugging one shoulder and not looking back at Shane. Because he didn’t look back, he doesn’t notice that Shane has stopped in the middle of the sidewalk for another few steps, lingering by a boutique but not looking in the shop window. Ryan tracks back and raises an eyebrow, putting himself back in line with Shane. “You good?” he asks, grabbing Shane’s attention; the vampire startles and nods, walking again quickly enough that Ryan has to catch up.
“You want to grab coffee, maybe?” Shane proposes, ducking his head towards the faerie coffee shop down the road from Lim’s Witching Wares. Ryan hesitates.
“Friend coffee or date coffee?” he asks, open and honest as he knows how to be. Shane laughs, smile light and loose and beautiful.
“Date coffee. Come on, I’ll buy.”

hiii! what’s a fic that lives in your mind rent free? what ship haven’t you written for yet but you’d like to? top 5 tropes?
em!! okay let’s see
what fic lives in your mind rent free?
darling it’s a faded notion | varnes | 28k | complete
The sun is too bright and Ryan’s whole body is alight with something that is eating him all the way up from the inside out, but he keeps his eyes open and he makes himself look, and he tells himself that once he finds Shane, he’ll think about it. Once he finds Shane, they’ll make a plan. Once he finds Shane, and only then, he’ll let himself have the thought he’s been swallowing down like bile since he came to: that they didn’t fall.
They were pushed.
OR: Ryan and Shane get cursed by a ghost, and now they can't be not-touching. It's ... not great.
chicken | bloodyloveletters | 6k | complete
The principle of the game of Chicken is that while either player prefers not to yield to each other, the outcome where neither player yields is the worst possible outcome for both players.
When Shane finds a new thing to tease Ryan over, he thinks it will be harmless. But it ends up changing their friendship forever.
we’ll make a brand new start of it (in old new york) | misantlery | 9k | complete
“Just to be clear,” Andrew says. “You want me to pretend to be your boyfriend at a party to spite your high school bully and your high school girlfriend and possibly the entire state of Ohio?”
Steven giggles. “Spite’s such a harsh word. Shock and impress, maybe.”
“For a man of faith you’re being awfully morally flexible about this,” Andrew says.
believer | cellard00rs | part of the bonded series, which is 233k
Some demons and otherworldly creatures love climbing up the power ladder. Shane is not one of these. He likes where he is (thank you very much) and has no interest in moving up. All he wants is to give his friend Ryan a nice birthday gift. So, naturally, everything goes to hell.
teacher’s pet | chapscher | 24k | complete
“You aren’t describing a teacher’s pet! You’re describing… I don't know the name for it. Someone who tries to seduce their teacher so they can get a better grade.” “Isn’t that a teacher’s pet?” “No!” _ Ryan is tired of losing every episode of Puppet History and asks Shane to tutor him. Shane obliges and tries to keep the tutoring session on track even as they distract each other.
we were wrecks before we crashed into each other | uneventfullhouses | 24k | complete
Cleo’s smile is soft. “Shane told me his memory. What’s yours?”
“Less about memories,” Ryan says truthfully. “More about the future. Where we’ll be and such.”
Arching a brow, she drops her arms, so she clasps her hands in front of her hips. “Where do you think you’ll be?”
Ryan laughs. “Dunno.” He isn’t brave enough to say that he does know that Shane will be there, somewhere, wedged between the regular, the obtuse, the breathtaking, the wild. The generic and the extraordinary. The weird and the wonderful.
or; this week on Weird and/or Wonderful World, Shane and Ryan visit a record shop.
ok so these are just a FEW of them but they’re the first ones that came to my mind - i know u asked me for like one but there’s too much TALENT in this fandom to only mention one. here is a link of most of my favorite works in the fandom (and i’ve been slacking with adding some so please if you read it and your work isn’t here don’t be offended i’ve barely been adding fics to the list).

WAITTTTT WHAT’S YOUR WIP ABOUT STEVEN’S SOULMATE BEING DEAD???? Dnflkdndlen love u, hope you’re well!!!
this is a very old ask but I hope you see this! thank you, I’m better now, I hope you’re well too, anon!
my standrew soulmate au wip is like 3 years old at this point and will most likely never be finished, so I have no qualms telling you what would happen in it lmao
I’m especially proud of this part, which was going to be in the ao3 summary:
Andrew's not the kind of person to dwell on the practicality and moral integrity of out of bond relationships and he has never, ever been, even though he’s stuck in a situation that could make those very appealing to him. But once he falls for Steven, that heated debate comes to mind: is it worth it to invest your time and feelings on someone that you know for a fact is not the right one for you? Is it right to do so? Does love out of bond even mean anything?
All Andrew has to say is that the side of the argument that's against it has probably never loved someone the way he loves Steven.
I actually answered an ask about it a looooong time ago, and I kept the little bullet point summary I made for it saved in my docs, so I’ll just copy and paste it here under a cut cause it’s a huge thing lmao. keep in mind I wrote this summary years ago. if it sounds kinda cringy that’s probably why
fair warning it is not that good! kinda cliché and some plot points don’t really work. but I had fun writing the bits I was able to write for it and I guess that’s all that really matters isn’t it?
tl;dr they’re actually soulmates but circumstances make them believe they’re not. some ansgt ensues.
- so the soulmate mark in this au is like… a white ring between your pupils and your iris
- idk why ok just go with it
- when you meet your soulmate, the ring appears. when they die, it turns gray
- andrew has a white mark, but he has no idea who his soulmate is because they met when they were kids
- he got into an accident right after they met and lost his memory of that time. no one saw the person besides him so he has no way of knowing.
- he grows up thinking this soulmate thing is bullshit and kinda resents it for having failed him.
- he avoids talking about it as much as he can
- he doesn’t really believe they’ll cross paths again
- steven has a gray mark
- he has had it for years. he grows up knowing his soulmate is dead
- having a gray mark at such a young age is a terrible thing, so people don’t ask about what happened. it’s a big mystery about his life
- despite that, he loves the concept of soulmates
- and is all in all a wonderful happy person
- they meet at buzzfeed, worth it happens
- they’re obviously attracted to each other, but they can’t be soulmates. i mean, andrew’s mark is right there?? steven’s soulmate is dead??
- so they try to fight the attraction
- spoiler alert: it doesn’t work
- they kinda get together one night in australia and everything is beautiful for a while. steven has something he never thought he would have and andrew just loves steven very much
- steven feels so confused because he remembers how he felt when he saw his soulmate all those years ago, and it’s a really strong thing. like nothing you’ve ever felt. and he feels the same for andrew, even though they’re definitely not soulmates
- andrew has really strong feelings for steven too. like, it’s almost too much. he’s In Love Binch
- but then there’s doubt. steven worries that andrew’s soulmate will come one day and it’ll be over
- “steven” andrew tries to reason, “I love you. isn’t that enough?”
- “what if what you feel for them is bigger than this?
- andrew hesitates for a moment and when steven looks angry, he tries to explain “I don’t know how it feels steven! i can’t remember how it feels to see your soulmate! what do you want me to say?”
- “well, I remember how it feels,” steven says in a controlled anger, crying a little. “and i know that what i feel for you is exactly like it. it's even stronger than that”.
- so things are bad. real bad. that’s when japan happens (cause Japan is Angst Time in worth it fanon)
- they’re both miserable
- here’s where i don’t have a plan but Something happens. maybe during a emotionally heavy conversation steven finally talks about what happened to his soulmate? maybe andrew tells him what he knows about his? anyway: they’re soulmates
- (omg they are soulmates)
- they met when they were small kids and one of them travelled to the other’s state for some reason. idk. maybe andrew’s parents know someone there? whatever
- andrew was in a playground and steven lived nearby. andrew saw him about to cross the street to come to the playground and he felt this very strong urge to go to him (cause they’re soulmates omg they’re soulmates) and ran to meet him
- but as andrew crosses the street to reach steven, he’s hit by a car and steven is so scared by the whole experience he runs away
- andrew technically dies for a few minutes and steven’s mark turns gray. when he gets home and his mom starts to cry when she sees his eyes, he knows the boy was his soulmate and he’s definitely dead. there’s no use looking for him
- andrew’s not actually dead, but he’s in a coma, so steven’s mark doesn’t turn white again. i imagine the marks rely on some weird conciousness connection and since andrew’s completely out of it, steven’s connection to him is lost
- when andrew wakes up, he has no recollection of the past few months of his life. he doesn’t remember meeting his soulmate. since he doesn’t remember, steven’s mark stays gray; but since steven remembers him, andrew’s mark stays white. it’s kinda like a one way connection i guess.
- (please pretend this whole thing works)
- so yeah. they were soulmates all along. as soon as andrew connects the dots and flashes of his memory come back, steven’s mark turns white and they’re SHOOK
- anyway, they live happily ever after, the end.

Idk if you watch watcher but on too many spirits, Steven (cocktail maestro) made a drink called 'all i have for xmas is brew' and (in an AU) it could have been 'Drew'😭❤️
ANON, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL WONDERFUL ASK  ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I have plans on watching TMS but as of the moment, I am too busy finishing my gothic horror standrew fic  👀 as well as rewatching worth it a bit for more fanfic video edits  👀
BUT THIS IDEA IS NOW GONNA BE STORED IN FUTURE FIC SCENES AHHHH
My angst mind is conjuring Steven saying in the AU instead “All I want for xmas is DREW.”  as a subtle lil nudge of Steven saying he misses his bf a lot cuz quarantine and shit.
BUT in another AU, referring to my Standrew married one, Steven did say “ All I have for xmas is Drew.” and is just telling everyone that he is very much going to enjoy Christmas WITH HIS HUSBAND AHHHH
Thank you very much again for your lovely contributions anon  ❤️ I now have two Christmas fanfic ideas for Standrew wherein I never even thought I’d be making a xmas fic this year lmaooo I shall watch TMS soon thanks to this sdbjkcnjadskndc  ❤️

standrew + sasha sloan - runaway (angsty af) ┰ω┰
hello friend, this is so delayed and I am so sorry!
anyways, four months to the day after I posted my last fic, I’m back, with a metric ton of angst and unresolved romantic tension! set in the days leading up to Steven’s move to New York!
~4k, on ao3 here. the song that inspired this can be found here.
run away, runaway.
The Uber that picks Steven up at six o’clock in the morning smells like fresh leather and pine air freshener, like it rolled off the lot of a dealership only a few minutes ago. The inside is completely lacking in personality and customization. There are no trinkets on the dashboard, nothing dangling from the rear view mirror, nothing but NPR piping from the speakers.
Frankly, it’s almost strangely appropriate - a brand new car come to ferry him away to a brand new life.
The driver briefly greets him before pulling away from the curb and lapsing into silence, and Steven doesn’t try to pursue a conversation. For starters, it’s too early, and he’s too damn tired; he’d gotten maybe an hour of solid, decent sleep last night, even though he turned in around midnight. Most of his time in bed had been spent tossing and turning on his narrow couch, trying to find a spot that would send him off to sleep despite the racing of his mind and the way it had been desperately replaying every minute of the night’s events.
As the driver turns onto another street, one of a handful that will eventually lead to the interstate and then LAX and then New York City, the night starts unfurling again in the confines of his mind. He doesn’t bother trying to shove the recollection away, doesn’t try to distract himself with staring out the window at the passing scenery; it’s probably better that he get the replay over with now, so that he can get some sleep on the airplane and try to prepare himself for the hectic days and weeks to come.
So he closes his eyes, leans his head back against the firm leather of the seat, and lets last night (and the events that led up to it) wash over him in a wave composed of nothing less than pure and utter regret.
It’s Adam’s idea to have a farewell dinner.
He brings it up at lunchtime, a week before Steven’s official last day in the LA office, while they’re sitting at one of the picnic tables outside, sheltered from the sun by a massive umbrella and gorging themselves on food truck tacos. He says it so seriously that, for a moment, Steven can’t help but wonder if Adam has somehow misunderstood, that he’s gotten the impression that this is a permanent goodbye.
“You know I’ll be back here like, once a month, right?” he asks, wiping guacamole away from the corner of his mouth. “Probably more than that, actually.”
“I know,” Adam answers with a slight shrug of his shoulders and a fraction of a smile. “But still.”
“I think it’s a great idea,” Andrew chimes in from Steven’s side. Despite the fact that each side of the table could easily fit three people (or four if they squeezed together), Andrew is pressed against his side, elbow to elbow and thigh to thigh, like they’re filming an episode of Worth It, warming Steven even more thoroughly than the sun. “Who knows when we’ll be able to hang out again? We’ll probably be too busy working on the show whenever you come back.”
“I’ll make time,” Steven replies, feeling a frown tugging at his mouth. The three of them had discussed the logistics of his move, how it would affect the show, in fair detail when he’d initially told them about it, but he can’t help but feel that he’s missing something here, that he’s maybe overestimated how well they took the news. However, going down that path seems like it could be a tangent that could drag them all down in the dumps, so instead, he plasters a smile onto his face and leans across the table to steal a piece of chicken that has fallen out of Adam’s taco. “But sure, we can do dinner. Where do you want to go?”
“You should pick,” Adam says, carefully pulling his taco back so that it’s out of Steven’s reach. “You pick, and we can make the rest of the arrangements.”
Even though it’s really not that big of a decision (especially when compared to the decision that precipitated it, the decision to move across the country on what is really a hunch and a feeling), it distracts Steven’s mind for the rest of the day. Every time he opens a tab on his laptop, intent on researching something or checking his email, he somehow finds himself looking up restaurants both new and old, places they’ve visited over the course of Worth It and places he’s had on his must try list for months. No matter how hard he tries to concentrate, it keeps happening, over and over again, and finally, when five o’clock comes around, he throws in the towel and dedicates himself fully to the task.
After half an hour purely devoted to research, he makes a decision.
He’s just grabbed his phone to text Adam and Andrew when the latter comes up the stairs from the lobby, burying a yawn into the crook of his elbow. His shirt is dotted with dark stains and dustings of flour, and his hair is a strange mixture of flattened and spiky. Per the usual, Steven’s heart skips a beat at the sight of him and, also per the usual, he forces himself to ignore that particular skip so that he can speak without fumbling every word from his mouth.
“Think Adam would be down with Le Petit Paris for dinner?”
“For next week?” A small smile forms on Andrew’s mouth as he drops down into his seat at the desk beside Steven’s. “Yeah, definitely. Good pick.”
It’s such a casual phrase, really means nothing in the grand scheme of things (frankly, Steven is pretty sure that he could pick most any restaurant in the city, and Andrew would think it was a good pick), but warmth still flickers in his cheeks and chest all the same.
“Thanks,” he replies, busying himself with packing up his laptop so that he doesn’t have to focus on trying to pull his gaze away from Andrew’s smiling face. “See you tomorrow?”
“Bright and early. Night, Steven.”
There’s always been something different about the way Andrew says his name, something that makes it so much more than an absent minded way to end a sentence. It’s almost feels considerate, somehow, coming from Andrew’s mouth, and Steven has to swallow heavily before he answers.
“Yeah. Night, Andrew.”
&.
The week seems to pass in the blink of an eye.
Every available moment is filled with something to do. When he isn’t at work, he’s at home, figuring out which of his possessions should go into storage for the time being and boxing up the rest, or he’s out with his friends or people from the office, soaking up every last bit of California sun, because he doesn’t know when he’ll be returning for more.
By the time Thursday morning comes around, his apartment looks like he’s just moved in. The only article of furniture still in one piece is the couch, which he’s been sleeping on for a few days. He spends the first half of the day keeping track of everything as movers load the carefully packed cardboard boxes and furniture into a truck, ready to take it across the country. When they drive away, his apartment is so empty that every sound he makes, every footstep and hum, echoes back at him.
Even though there’s probably some more cleaning he could do, the echoing starts to get at him, and he heads into work shortly after lunch, aiming to have a productive afternoon, to wrap up some stuff that will be easier to handle in person than from a few thousand miles away.
Instead, he spends the afternoon saying goodbye to what feels like seemingly everyone in the LA office. He picks up stakes a few times, moves to a different part of the compound so he can maybe have a better chance of focusing, but each time is to no avail. Someone, whether it be Jen or Kelsey or Garrett or Alix, always finds him.
At four thirty, he gives up. He isn’t going to get anything done, not now, and besides, their dinner reservations are in an hour; even if he didmanage to buckle down and focus, he’d get torn away again just as he was starting to hit a groove. So instead, he heads back upstairs to his desk to make sure he hasn’t forgotten anything, to make sure he hasn’t left behind a mess for whoever will be taking his place.
He hasn’t. It could use a quick wipe down, but other than that, he’s already managed to remove all traces from it. The little trinkets that have accumulated on it over the years are gone, removed one at a time over the past few weeks. The drawer underneath it is empty of any personal effects; there are a few pens and other supplies rolling around, but he decides to leave them there as a kind of housewarming gift for his replacement.
Compared to Andrew’s desk on his left, with its box full of plushies and the photographs carefully peeking out of books, it looks downright sterile. At the sight of it, Steven’s chest grows momentarily tight, and he forces himself to tear his eyes away.
He’s not going to let this be a problem. He’s spent years carefully keeping his emotions at bay, keeping his feelings for Andrew tucked away the best he can. On the few occasions that they’ve escaped, he’s always been able to come up with a reasonable excuse, always been able to explain them away as a bit for an episode or the result of one glass of wine too many.
As much as it aches to swallow them down now, he’ll be damned if he’s going to let them slip out on today of all days.
Leaving his desk behind, he heads across the compound until he reaches the studio where Eating Your Feed is filming. He can hear laughter leaking out through the door, and part of him wants to slip inside, wants to watch his friends having fun, wants to watch Andrew having fun. Part of him wants to simply memorize the smile that’s no doubt gracing Andrew’s face, wants to keep it close to his chest so that he’ll have it on the long nights between now and the next time he comes into town.
But, as nice of a memento that would be, it would also hurt, having that smile living in his mind but not being able to access the real thing, and while Steven may be many things, he’s not that much of a masochist.
So instead, he leans back against the wall opposite the studio and distracts himself with his phone while he waits for filming to finish up. Thankfully, he only has to wait about twenty minutes before the door opens, and Niki and Rie come out. He says yet another round of goodbyes to them, and they’re just heading down the corridor when Adam, Annie and Andrew come out as well.
“Ready for dinner?” Adam asks.
“Whenever you are. Do you guys wanna change first?” Adam and Annie shake their heads, but Andrew nods emphatically.
“Yeah, please. That room is way too hot.”
“That room is the perfect temperature,” Annie responds, deadpan. “You just sweat more than any human being should.”
Andrew shrugs. “You’re not wrong. Meet you guys out in the parking lot.”
Adam is the only one of them who drove in today (Steven sold his car last week, and Andrew’s is in the shop), so they wait by his car, leaning against the hood and talking about how the shoot had gone. The evening looks like it’s going to be a beautiful one; the sun has begun to slip towards the horizon, still providing illumination but with less of the heavy heat that’s been sitting low over the city for the last few weeks, and there’s not a cloud in the sky, no sign of any rain that might put a wash on the evening.
Really, he couldn’t have asked for a better last night.
But that’s before Andrew comes out of the building.
At the sight of him, the words Steven was planning on saying to Adam and Annie die in his throat. Andrew’s plain white t-shirt is gone, replaced with a black button-up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, exposing the cords of his forearms and the watch strapped around his wrist. It looks like he ran water through his hair as well; it’s slicked over to one side, flyaways tamped down for the time being, although Steven wouldn’t be surprised if they reappeared soon.
Simply put, even though there’s nothing particularly new or unique about the outfit, nothing out of the ordinary, Andrew looks amazing, and Steven suddenly feels like this is a horrible idea. He feels like he should come up with an excuse, any excuse, to get out of dinner, because this is going to be painful. This is going to hurt more than he’s prepared to deal with.
But it’s too late to back out. Andrew has already reached the car, and Adam has dug his keys from the depths of his pocket. If Steven were to flee now, he’d be hurting his friends, and he wants that like he wants a hole in the head.
So, with his heart heavy in his chest, he slides into the back beside Andrew, tries not to catch the scent of Andrew’s cologne (and fails), and attempts to portion off the part of his brain that has a thing for Andrew, that has had a thing for him pretty well from the first day they met.
&.
Remarkably, he manages to keep himself under control for almost the entirety of dinner.
They keep the conversation light, turned away from the real reason they’re there. They talk about work and movies and the amazing food in front of them, about Andrew’s new cat and Adam and Annie’s new apartment, but they do not talk about the move.
Nor do they talk about the fact that there’s something between Andrew and Steven, something hovering between them like an unseen fifth person, something that has Steven’s nerves pulled taut.
The tables at the restaurant are not unreasonably small, but somehow, Steven finds himself repeatedly brushing against Andrew. When they move to grab a piece of cutlery or their respective glasses of wine, their arms touch, and it feels like fire singing Steven’s skin. Even when they’re eating, Andrew’s knee keeps bumping against Steven’s.
But even more so than that, Steven can feel Andrew staring at him, almost from the very moment they sit down. Andrew’s gaze has always heavy, borderline overbearing, but Steven thought that he’d become accustomed to it, that he’d become adept at shaking the weight of it off like it was no more than a feather.
Apparently not.
It has to be obvious to Adam and Annie, but neither of them say a word or draw any attention to it. What they do do, however, is conveniently excuse themselves to the washroom once they’re finished up with their meals, leaving Steven with no way out and nothing to focus on.
Nothing but Andrew.
He knows that something is going to happen; it has to. Something has to happen, something has to pop the tension that’s coiling tight around his chest like a predatory snake, threatening to take every inch of breath he has. If something doesn’t happen, he’ll suffocate.
“I can’t believe it’s tomorrow,” Andrew says quietly. His knee is pressed against Steven’s again. Steven is looking at Andrew’s scraped clean plate, but in his peripheral vision, he can see Andrew tilting his head to look at him. He can feel Andrew’s gaze on him. “I thought…” Andrew pauses for a moment, and his fingers momentarily twitch on the clean white linen of the tablecloth. “I don’t know. I thought we were gonna have more time, you know?”
“Andrew…” Steven doesn’t intend on letting the word leave his mouth, but it exits all the same, hangs heavily in the air between them, as visible as a gaudy ornament on a Christmas tree. Now that it’s out in the open, he can feel himself tiptoeing towards the road he promised himself he wouldn’t go down, for both of their sakes.
But then again, would it really be so bad? Would it really be so bad if, underneath the warm-toned lighting of the restaurant, surrounded by the peaceful murmur of other patrons and faint string music, he simply confessed everything? If he finally told Andrew everything that’s been filling his mind, to some degree or another, for the past few years?
He could finally say I love you. I’ve loved you for so long. He could finally say, I think we could make a life together, or you make me feel safe, or you make me want to stay.
Or maybe he could simply look up from the table, catch Andrew’s unwavering eye, and finally kiss him, the way he’s dreamed about for literal years.
Would that be so bad?
The answer, of course, is yes.
Even though the words ache to spill from his lips, even though he is fairly certain that his feelings would be reciprocated, throwing all of that on Andrew now, the night before he leaves, feels like a special kind of disrespect. It feels completely and utterly selfish.
It feels cruel.
If there’s one thing Andrew doesn’t deserve, it’s cruelty.
“Yes?” Andrew says. His fingers have moved to Steven’s side of the table, and they’re curled into the thick fabric of the tablecloth. There’s a hopeful note in his voice, something that almost makes Steven reconsider, makes him say screw it and lean in anyways.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he mutters, “Never mind. I forget what I was going to say.” He flicks his eyes away from Andrew’s fingers and back to his own plate, where he spears a noodle and shoves it into his mouth.
Even though the sauce is exploding with flavor, decadent and creamy, he can barely taste it over the sour taste flooding through his mouth.
Adam and Annie return moments later, and after settling their bills, they step back out into the night. The evening has grown cool, and there’s a stiff breeze that makes a chill run down Steven’s spine, breaking through the uncomfortable warmth that’s been stifling him ever since his aborted confession.
“Want a lift home?” Adam asks once they’re outside. “Or to the airport tomorrow? I can come pick you up.”
Adam’s companionship would probably beat the hell out of an Uber driver, but Steven’s decision to shake his head is twofold: he doesn’t want to drag Adam out of bed that early, and he knows that if Adam comes, so will Andrew, and Steven isn’t sure he could deal with going through yet another goodbye.
If he has to do that, he thinks his willpower might finally snap.
“I’ll be fine,” he answers. “But I’ll let you all know when I land tomorrow, alright?”
“You better,” Annie responds, pulling him into a quick hug. Adam follows up, grabs him tight and thumps him on the back hard enough to make Steven cough with surprise. After he steps away, he glances over at Andrew.
“What about you, Drew? Want a lift home?”
“That’d be great, actually. Be there in a second.” While Adam and Annie drift over towards the car, Andrew comes to stand in front of Steven. There’s no escaping his eyes now, nowhere Steven can look that won’t make it painfully obvious that he’s avoiding eye contact. Steeling himself with a deep breath, he glances from Adam and Annie to Andrew.
The breath does almost nothing to prepare himself for the depth of emotion written in Andrew’s eyes, on his face. It’s not quite sadness; if anything, it might be closer to regret, tinged with a bit of weariness.
Steven is willing to bet that he’s probably wearing a similar expression.
Without warning, Andrew pulls him into a tight hug, and Steven’s walls temporarily fall down. He fully melts against Andrew, wraps his arms around his neck and hauls him in close, until he can feel Andrew’s broad chest expanding against his own. This close, he can smell Andrew’s cologne, along with a hint of wine from dinner, and he knows that smell is going to transfer onto his own clothes, that it might very well be the first thing he smells when he wakes up in the morning.
“You can always talk to me, you know,” Andrew murmurs. The words brush warmly against the side of Steven’s neck. “Doesn’t matter what time it is. I’ll always answer, Steven.”
“I know.” The words have to traverse a lump in Steven’s throat in order to leave his mouth. “I’ll reach out if I need anything. I promise.”
“Good.”
They stay like that for a few more moments, fully wrapped around each other, Steven’s mind empty of any thought that doesn’t directly relate to how wonderful Andrew feels pressed up against him. Eventually, Andrew’s grip slackens, and Steven loosens his own arms in anticipation of stepping away.
Andrew steps back first, and as he moves away, he turns his head and brushes his lips against Steven’s temple.
It’s too gentle to be much of a kiss, but gentle or not, Steven feels it as viscerally as a punch to the jaw, and it’s all he can do to keep himself from reeling backwards, from simply dropping to the ground.
“Have a safe flight,” Andrew says, cheeks faintly tinged pink. “I’ll see you soon?”
Steven can’t speak. All he can do is nod, so overwhelmed with the urge to lurch forward and kiss Andrew that it physically hurts to restrain himself. With a slight smile, Andrew turns and walks over to Adam’s car.
It’s only after he clambers inside that Steven starts breathing again. As soon as he takes in a deep breath, warmth starts pricking at the corners of his eyes, and he refocuses all his energy on keeping that warmth from spilling over.
He’s successful up until the moment he gets through his front door.
From that point on, there’s no stopping it.
+++
He can’t see the terminals yet, but LAX is still looming before him, present in the freeway signs overhead and the sight of planes taking off, disappearing into the sky.
He glances down at where his phone is resting in his lap. It’s still too early for Andrew to be up, but Steven can’t help but play with the idea of texting him, of saying something.
But what would he say? Everything that he wants to say is too long to be distilled down to a single text message, or even a string of them. He supposes that he could just say that he’s sorry, but that isn’t nearly enough. It’s not good enough. Not good enough for Andrew, who deserves nothing less than the entire world and all the joy in it.
Maybe one day, he’ll tell Andrew. Maybe one day, the spires of New York will no longer feel like home, and he’ll come back for good to the smog and sun of LA. Maybe he’ll come back, ready to spill everything, ready and willing to tell Andrew absolutely everything.
But maybe, by that point, Andrew won’t want to hear those words. Maybe he’ll have found someone else. Maybe he’ll have simply moved on, the distance between them, despite Steven’s occasional jaunts home, having killed off whatever exists between them. Maybe the distance will have killed or, at the very least, quieted everything that Steven is feeling right now.
With one last glance at the screen, Steven pockets his phone and sighs.
As painful as the thought may be, for the sake of both his own happiness and Andrew’s, he really, truly hopes that that ends up being the case.
