Do you know if 'svikamylla' means anything? And thank you for all your translations and insights!
Svikamylla means ‘scam’, specifically with the connotation of being a larger, organized thing. I believe when the guys talk about the company in English they tend to call it Relentless Scam Inc.; I think that translation has a nice ring to it. Obviously, this lends every statement about Svikamylla a delightful, heavy dose of irony, whether it’s them explaining they get all their orders from Svikamylla, SodaDream being a registered trademark of Svikamylla, or their events being organized by Svikamylla.

I can’t for the life of me remember what the context or prompt was, but I remember for a fact that I drafted this with intent to share it with my wonderful friend @iiphides like 2 years ago, so hope y’all enjoy poems about worms!
A worm awakes amid a bed of apples Upon an apple bin it worries what To do to while away a-wand'ring hours Awaiting wormy, well, we don't know what.
A wild wonder wakes the worm's amazement: A wider world afield its now aware Beyond the apple bin awash in twilight Enticing with allure for anywhere.
A worm amid the apple bed is awestruck A wider world awaits somewhere out there And oh it's awe-filled heart (or five) is aching For action and adventure on the air!

Hi! (if it's not too late)
every time they turn the lights down
a hag lies on the doorstep dead (non-english)
i want you to want me
we are the youth
one man on a lonely platform
* Send me a ‘hi’ and I will put my playlist on shuffle, write down the first line of five songs and give it to you as a poem: https://graveyarddirt.tumblr.com/ask

Decorating the house with evergreens is pretty far up there. I tend to like the more old-fashioned decorations - none of those blow-up lawn ornaments like America has, thanks.
Also, candles and christmas lights of all kinds. I always have candles in the windows and an advent wreath for my kitchen table, though we’ve switched a lot of those to electric as electric-candle-technology improves - for the safety of kids and dogs.
And seasonal baked goods, best enjoyed with the ones you love around a crackling fire on a long dark evening...

Auntie Jilli, I know you have a tag for embracing your cliches, and I know you like reading, so I was wondering if you'd seen the Goth Girl series by Chris Riddell? They're Very Silly kids' novels about Ada Ghastly-Gorm, the only child of Lord Goth, poet.
I haven’t read them yet, but they’re on my Amazon wishlist. I am hoping that Sandy Claws brings me the whole set this year. :)

@iiphides hey! Yes it is terrifying! Right now its hard to say what to do to help. Money is always helpful but I have seen several scam donation links going around so I don't want to give you wrong information. I do know that every single shelter is asking for diapers. I don't have a list of shelters on me, or how you can get them diapers but seriously lots of displaced babies who need to be able to pee without having to sit in it for days. I'm sort of stuck myself because I want to get back down there and get on one of the boat teams but there's no way for us to make it back to Dickenson or Brazoria let alone back to the island. With the situation ever changing, and me a few hundred miles away from my friends and neighbors who need help, its hard for me to say what help is needed where.

Tagged: Writer Interview
I was tagged by @logicheartsoul and you guys know I’m a sucker for this stuff by now so yaaaay~
What made you start writing for the first time?
I honestly can’t answer this due to the fact that I’ve been writing ever since I can really remember.  Every time I think I locate the first thing that really got me, I remember something from even earlier.  I’m an only child, so I was always telling stories to myself while I played in the backyard and writing them down, and that transitioned into fanfic when I got older.
If you could only write about the ocean, the forest, or the desert for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?
If you know me, you know my ocean boner is as fierce as my space boner and I see a lot of lovely parallels between the two.  There are so many parts of the ocean we haven’t explored.  My fascination first started with @dduane‘s Deep Wizardry, which is still my favorite in her Young Wizards series.  I started watching a lot of ocean documentaries and fell in love with it.  Then after High Wizardry I watched a lot of space documentaries and fell in love with space -- also due to all the time at my cabin under the stars.  But yes, definitely the ocean, zero question.  The other two are fascinating environments, but the ocean is a vast and terrifying place with many mysteries to be explored.
Would you ever write a memoir?
Ehhhh?  I don’t know.  I found out I’m surprisingly decent at nonfiction, and I do enjoy writing it, but I’m wondering what I myself could contribute, really.  Part of me thinks that’s the appeal; an approach of a not-famous person, but at the same time, it’s still almost arrogant to think that?????????  tl;dr I have no goddamn idea if it happens it happens
Do you like writing by hand, or writing with a computer?
I wrote by hand all the time when I was little.  Then when I hit high school, we had to do those blue book essays for pretty much every test and we were timed.  I’m a much slower writer than I am a typer (I got grounded as a kid and all I could do was play Mavis Beacon 9 so my wpm is insane), so I pushed myself really hard and now have horrible carpel tunnel.  I can’t even grade papers at my job without a wrist brace or play Wii games for an extended period of time without a brace.  So, definitely computer because A) it comes out faster, and B) it doesn’t hurt as bad.
The correct correct answer is typewriter, though.
Would you rather be popular among many readers, or unpopular, by loved by critics?
Okay my dudes.  Here’s my opinion on critics, and I am throwing stones in a glass house because I do videogame reviews myself: Critics are people who are just paid to voice their opinion.  Yes, they have a lot of sway and think analytically but people who take critics’ words as gospel really annoy me.  You will never know if you enjoy a piece of media unless you experience it yourself.  I’ve disliked a lot of critically acclaimed things and loved a lot of hated things.
On the other hand, being popular among many readers is also a problem.  I’ve seen writers start to write for their audience instead of for themselves, and imo, as a creator that’s one of the worst things you can do.  Taking requests or commissions is different, but if you start trying to please everyone, you lose the story you’re really trying to tell.  The authors I love and respect know where to draw the line, so I think both options are actually double-sided and poor for similar reasons.  They influence how you create, and not always in a good way.  It can push you into a hole if you’re not careful.
I like to write, and create, because it’s what my friends and I enjoy doing.  If I have fun with it, that’s all that matters.
Do you listen to music while you write?  What is the best writing music?
I generally listen to orchestral soundtracks; videogames, movies, or just orchestra in general.  Or ambient noises.  If I really need to focus, I’ll stop it and zero in on a point, then when I feel like I’ve gotten everything I need to, I start the music back up again.  Anything lyricless, really.
Do people you’ve met find their way into your writing?
I think it’s safe to say this is true for most writers.  I often use bits of dialogue between my friends, or find characters influenced by my friends’ tics or habits.  None of them are ever straight up one person; it’s usually an amalgamation of people and their own originality.

Tag Game
@forest-of-books tagged me
Rules: If tagged, answer the original questions and either add to the list or delete some (if you’d like), then tag more people!
Which book are you currently reading?
Calamity, by Brandon Sanderson
What’s the best beverage to drink while reading?
Hot tea. Hot tea is best reading tea, but honestly I’m not too picky.
What’s your favourite book quote?
“ Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder. Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels. Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies. Elves are glamorous. They project glamour. Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment. Elves are terrific. They beget terror. ”  - Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies
among others, but that’s the first one that came to mind, and it encompasses what I think of elves and fairies.
Are you looking forward to a certain book release? If yes, which one? Tamora Pierce’s Numair book, The Thorn of Emberlain, the last books in both the Broken Earth trilogy and the Kingkiller Trilogy
What’s your Hogwarts house?
Ravenclaw, but with Hufflepuff tendencies.
Are there any books you would recommend to the rest of us?
Terry Prathcett’s Tiffany Aching Books
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova
The Inheritance Triology by NK Jemisin
What types of book covers do you find most aesthetically pleasing? The ones strike a balance between artsy and realistic, and simple and complicated, and the ones that show off the mood of the book.
What is one genre you want to read more of? I should read more non-fantasy than I do, That goes for nonfiction, “literary” fiction (though people who say that isn’t a genre in itself kinda irritate me), poetry. I would like to see more diversity in YA spec. fic.
Do you tend to easily enjoy whatever it is you’re reading or are you a hard sell?
I tend to enjoy most of what I read, if the recommendation comes from a source I trust. If someone says something’s good, I’ll do my best to give it a try.
What other kinds of media do you enjoy?
Most of my other story consumption is through comics and tv and movies here and there. I’m honestly not too picky. I enjoy podcasts, but I most just listen to them if I’m walking somewhere.

An incomplete list of tropes that make me go absolutely feral
- The fact that some characters, hero or villain, have performed specific actions so often that when someone mentions that action, the character has to say “can you be more specific.”
- Large, boisterous, incredibly friendly Russians
- The dope slap. Just smacking someone upside the head as a way of telling someone that they were being an idiot
- When the morally ambiguous character leaves just before the final throwdown only to painfully admit that yes, they do care about their friends, then turn around and go back to help save the day
- Parents that are so obviously and healthily in love with each other that it has the high potential to embarrass their children
- When the authorities have the various members of the crew in an interrogation room and it cuts between the different interrogations to the crew either giving wildly different accounts of the same story or finishing each other’s sentences/answering each other’s questions
- When a character has every right to be frustrated at something physical and appears to be walking away calmly only to lose their cool a second later and grab a sledgehammer or smth
- Incredibly grandiose/unlikely threats. IE: “I’m going to play hopscotch in your chest cavity” or “I’m going to carve your heart out with a spoon.” Bonus points if the character that makes them follows through or makes a reference to them later on.
- Someone naming their weapon. Bonus points for naming it after a loved one or a lost love.
- The relationship between a pure force of unmitigated chaos and the one person that can (sometimes) keep them under control.
- Brick jokes. Like someone drops a line in Season 2, episode 3, only to have it referenced in Season 7, episode 9. The longer the brick is in the air, the better.
- Weaknesses that are really lame
- When a character has something that happens to them that removes all sense of a filter, and they start saying what’s *really* on their mind.
- Ambiguously worded questions. No matter how you answer, it’s going to lead to more humor.
- Communication errors for the sake of comedy, just like, in general
- Slipping innuendos into kids’ movies or shows
- The whole master/loyal assistant dynamic. Bonus points if there’s mutual pining or a secret relationship going on behind the scenes

indigo, violet, azure!
indigo: first pet
Would you believe that (unless the obligatory peanut butter jar caterpillar counts) I didn’t have pets until the past year or two? That’s when I took in Doom Poof and Bandersnatch on behalf of my dearest, who was in kinda dire straits and needed a place for the boys to live while he was figuring out how to ditch an old apartment and avoid moving back home with family. I was SO nervous at first because I didn’t really know anything about care of cats (and there’s still a lot I don’t feel comfortable with, like claw trimming!) but I love those fluffy sassbutts like nobody’s business now :)
violet: pastel or dark colors
Jewel tones on neutral base colors!
azure: favorite type of flower
I…I’ll be honest with you, I know next to nothing about flowers. All I can really say is that I keep a digital bouquet on my phone, because anytime my dearest sees a flower he thinks is “pretty enough” for me he’ll snapchat me a picture of it.
I’ve saved every single one of them.

Problematic mutual iiphides/sonnefur:
You are problematic because...
You know way more about the Roman pantheon than I do and I feel threatened
You are really helpful when needed, but when not needed you are nowhere to be found
I haven’t heard from you in forever and thought you forgot about me.
That’s it you aren’t problematic you are one of my favorite friends.
Mutuals: send me an EW and I’ll tell you why you are problematic.
