Hear me out, what if, WHAT IF, Phastos gifted a pair of like mechanical wings to Angel for her to fly one more time with Ikaris 🥺?
You know what? He definitely would do that.
I hope you like this!

“Take off your shirt.”
You raised a brow at Phastos, looking at him curiously before your face broke into a shit-eating grin.
“Why, Phastos, you’d have to take me out to dinner first.” you teased and saw the Inventor Eternal roll his eyes. You chuckled at his exasperation. “Thanks for the offer but I’m married. And besides, I didn’t know you swing both ways now.”
“I don’t,” he replied shortly.
You grinned again. You walked around his little workshop—well, it was more of a plain generic garage, really. Phastos had no need for those human tools whenever he invented something; he just needed to wave and flick his hand and anything he had set his mind to would be made. Much like you with your powers, only yours were made of brilliant golden light and very limited to handheld weapons, or else they’d vanish once you let go of your fist.
“So, why do you need me here again? Other than to see me topless.” You turned to him, leaning back on a table as you watched him take his spot in the center of room.
“I want to perfect something,” he said. “You can keep your shirt on for the time being. This needs a bit of tweaking before I can have you try it.”
“What is it?” you asked, peering at the disassembled machine that hovered above the both of you.
“It’s… something,” he replied distractedly.
You smiled softly, letting him. Once Phastos was engrossed in his projects, it was impossible to pry his attention from it. You just walked about the place to entertain yourself, looking at the random stuff that were scattered everywhere. There were the usual home tools of grass cutters and wrenches and pliers, with the occasional wooden picture frame that was most likely Jack’s school project and a baking soda volcano took up a spot on the corner. There was a photo of Phastos’s family in one of the wonky frames and a photo of Jack and Ben tacked to the board. A table was cluttered with an unfinished project and another held a little birdhouse, half-painted. The whole room was messy, if not homey, and it looked really nice and domestic.
You turned to look at the little device Phastos was working on and neared it. “What’s it do?”
He shushed you. You made a face at your interruption and watched closely as he took a little piece of something to replace it with something in the something. Really, you had no idea what it was other than it was sleek, V-shaped, gold, and if you held it, would fit the length of your palm.
He did a little more of flicking and twisting and turning his hands before everything fell into place. The V-shaped machine floated before the both of you, bobbing in the air and likely waiting for Phastos’s next customizing.
“Ta-da.” he said with a beam, gesturing to the little item.
You looked at him expectantly, lips pursed. “Okay…?”
He sighed. “I don’t know why I bother with this family.”
“No, no!” You touched his arm, smiling apologetically. “I’d be as excited as you are if I only knew what it is.”
“These are your wings.” he said plainly and you had to blink before you processed his words.
“What?”
“Your wings. Since, you know, the whole fiasco at the beach years ago, I figured you’d want to fly again.” He looked rueful and shy and you knew he was apologetic for being the one to have urged you to try and temporarily blind Ikaris, but only to have your husband kill you for it by clipping your wings.
“It’s not your fault, you know. Ikaris was being a stupid ass then.” you said nonchalantly. “Plus, we needed to stop him from making more really stupid decisions.”
He cleared his throat. “Right. Yes. Well.”
You watched him, smiling to yourself. All of the other Eternals tried not to talk about that time in the beach but you knew it was inevitable. It was part of all of your lives; a test to the bond they had as a family and a clarity for you as to why you were a guardian angel to the most annoying, most pain-in-the-ass Eternal there was. Everyone came out relatively unscathed then—well, you were brought back to life so that counted.
You circled the device, leaning in to look at the little etchings on it. The symbols were a mix of Ikaris’s and yours. “It’s too small to even lift me from the ground.” You looked up at Phastos, smiling bashfully. “I mean, thank you. I’m sure this is amazing but I don’t see how this would work.”
“It would need your cosmic energy to activate it.” he said. “It should only work with your energy signature so no one else could use it.”
“Okay.” Cool. “How do I activate it?”
“Put your mind to it.”
“That’s Druig’s thing,” you deadpanned.
He sighed. You only grinned at him. God, how you loved teasing and riling up everyone in the family.
“How do you usually use your wings? I’d assume you just put your mind to it, like you do when you think about picking up a cup with your hand or kicking a stone with your foot.”
You nodded. He was right on that. “One thing, though?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t see the wings.”
“I don’t know what they look like,” Phastos said honestly. It was true; it had only been Ajak, Ikaris, Gil, and Druig who had seen your wings before they were cut off but they were the most magnificent wings you’ve ever seen.
You turned to him curiously. If Phastos could give you back the very same wings you had, you’d be eternally grateful. Pun intended.
“Are you going to remake them?” you asked gingerly. You did not want to hope. You’ve been used to being wingless for nearly a decade now. To have wings again was nothing short of a miracle.
“Well, you are.” he replied. “Like I said, put your mind to it.”
“Do you work for IKEA? Because your instructions are pretty vague just like their manuals.” You teased. “If I end up conjuring a black hole, it’s on you.”
“Y/N…”
“I’m joking.” You walked over to him and pulled him into a hug, squeezing him as tight as you could. “Thank you, P. You don’t know how much this means to me.”
Phastos patted your back and pulled away, smiling down at you. “So, let’s see how it is. Take your shirt off and turn back.”
You put your hand to the hem of your blouse but hesitated. You looked at Phastos unsurely, not knowing how to explain the many gash and slash marks that decorated your back.
“I’m not going to jump on you, if that’s what you’re worried about,” Phastos said when he plucked the device from air.
“Damn. I thought I was hot as hell. Well, there goes my self-esteem,” you teased again. You lifted your shirt slowly, unsurely, and turned back, baring to him your long history with human violence.
“Y/N—”
You flinched at the piteous tone in his voice. You hated it when they pitied you. “It’s ugly, I know.”
“Do they still hurt?”
“No. Only to look at, though.” You cleared your throat. “Can I keep the front of my shirt on? You might see the hickeys on my boobs.” you joked.
You could almost see the frown on his face.
“Were you always this vulgar?” he asked.
“Seven thousand years of life and you expect me to be prudent and demure? Besides, Jack’s in school. I don’t think he can hear us.” You crossed your arms across your chest, covering yourself as you turned to him. “So, what’s next?”
“I’m assuming the two slanted patches of skin were where your wings were attached once?”
“Yeah, the only virgin angel parts in my whole body.”
He groaned. “Y/N, so help me god—”
You laughed. “I’m sorry. I’m nervous. You’re giving me wings. You’re making my dreams come true.”
He sobered, smiling softly at you. “It’s nothing compared to what you’ve done for everyone.”
You shrugged. “Eh, it means a lot to me either way.”
Phastos turned and twisted his hands again, adding a bit more length to the device in his hands. He held it out for you to inspect. “Okay. I’m going to attach this to the base of your spine with these ends,” he gestured to the tops of the V, “connecting to where your wings were once. It should take a few seconds to read your cosmic energy signature before you could use it.”
“Is it going to electrocute me?” you asked as you turned your back to him again. “Because you’d probably forgotten but I’m made of some kind of organic material and I know I’m a good electric conductor.”
“It might sting a little but that’s only because I’m connecting it to your body. You don’t have to take it out ever again, even when you don’t use it.”
Cold, sharp metal tickled your lower back and the sudden sting of metal prongs digging in made you yelp out loud.
“Sorry,” you heard Phastos say.
“Is this permanently attached to me now? Like a classy tramp stamp?” you asked when you straightened.
As you were about to say another quip at your Inventor friend, you felt the surging of cosmic energy through you. It was a cold tingle that ran from the tips of your toes to the top of your head before settling in the two slanted spots of skin on your back. You felt it coming out of you, felt it take shape behind you and, with a bright surge of light, materialized into something that was concrete and familiar.
“Holy shit.”
.
You looked up at Ikaris, smiling when he placed your arms around his neck. You had arrived home just in time for him to come back from his errands and you both made quick work of dinner before coming up to your bedroom balcony. It had become a ritual, to come up there and watch the night sky as it got dark enough for him to fly the both of you.
“You still haven’t told me what Phastos wanted with you today, angel.” He nuzzled your nose with his, placing his hands on your waist and gently swaying you as if in a dance.
“What are you doing?” you asked, chuckling.
Above the both of you, the moon was big and red. A blood moon, you thought. Often it meant chaos and disruption but you found it fitting because it also meant change.
“Interrogating my wife.” he replied cheekily. “And dancing with her.”
You smiled. “I like the dancing part. The interrogation, I don’t think so.”
He nuzzled his nose against yours again. “It’s not much of an interrogation, anyway. You haven’t answered my question.”
You turned your head up and gently pecked his lips. “Why are you so interested to know?”
“You could be plotting something against me,” he teased against your lips.
“Please,” you said, offended. “I don’t need Phastos’s help for that. I’m perfectly fine plotting something against you on my own.”
He threw his head back and laughed. “I’m sure.”
You grinned.
“Was that what you were doing?” he tried again, searching your face.
You winked and kissed his lips again. You felt him smile against you. You placed your palm on his cheek and pulled away to look at him.
“It’s nothing serious, if that’s what you’re worried about. All three of them are doing okay. Jack is doing amazing in school. He got great marks on his test about Greek history today.” you told him. “So, are you going to fly me tonight, lover, or do I have to play twenty questions with you first?”
You felt your feet lift from the floor of your balcony. Ikaris held you firmly by the waist, bringing you easily with him to the skies. You kept close to him, watching as the both of you moved closer to the moon. You passed by the buildings of the Chicago skyline and went through the clouds. You held out your hand, feeling the soft mist of the clouds as it passed though you. You both emerged from the largest collection of clouds, hovering above it as you saw an unobstructed view of the blood moon. Below you, Chicago and its neighboring cities twinkled like earthly stars.
“Beautiful,” you whispered as you looked at the sight before you.
“Yes, you are.” Ikaris whispered back at you.
You looked at him, smiling a soft smile before pushing yourself away from him to freefall back to Earth.
“Angel!” Ikaris yelled in panic, watching as he groped the air to catch you from falling.
You closed your eyes as the air rushed around you with your descent, wetting you with the water vapor held within the clouds. You missed this, missed freefalling back to the earth and flying just as you neared the skyline. You never attempted to do that with Ikaris; you always held on to him whenever he flew you across the city. But now, with Phastos’s invention…
“Y/N!”
You opened your eyes, seeing you were still in the clouds, but Ikaris was nowhere near you. Not seeing him would have scared you on any other occasion but today, you were fine with that. You were more than okay with it, actually, because you wanted to surprise him.
You closed your eyes once again as you activated the device Phastos made for you. The cosmic energy in you swirled deep in your belly; you imagined golden tentacles extending to the far reaches of your toes and your mind and pulling it towards your center before exiting your back. Your mind went back to the day you first saw your majestic wings, to your reflection on the water as it showed the golden lights between your magnificent white feathers of various sizes, and you felt the change in the cosmic energy as it molded itself after your memory.
“Angel! Y/N! Where are you!”
You breathed deeply. The rush of the air was back and it rung in your ears. You were out of the clouds now, out of hiding… and, opening your eyes, you gave a mighty flap of your new wings.
“Y/N—!”
You hovered before your husband, smiling softly as your wings flapped to keep you afloat.
The device had been able to bend your cosmic energy to make your wings; a golden outline of every apex and curve, of the large primary flight feathers to the smaller secondary control feathers, to mark the place where your once majestic and awesome wings were.
The only thing Phastos could not replicate were your feathers. He said that while it was possible to make them, it would be difficult to hide them back when you had no need of it. It would’ve been wonderful to have them again but it was a sacrifice you were willing to make. So instead of those, more brilliant light filled the void of the outline. Your once white feathered wings were now made of radiant, golden, cosmic light. It shone brightly and brilliantly, like a beacon that surrounded and bathed you in its luminosity.
For the longest time, you were whole again.
“Angel,” Ikaris said reverently, eyes on your golden wings, a tear falling down his cheek.
You flew to him, wiping away the tear with the pad of your thumb before taking his hand in yours. “Yes, my love. I’m an angel again.”
“How?”
“Phastos,” you said simply and it was explanation enough.
He swallowed and reached out to touch it. Your power buzzed and crackled as his finger traced the shape of your wings. His touch was airy and soft, nearly phantom-like but very much worshipful.
“It’s real,” he whispered.
You nodded and felt your own eyes burn with tears. It’s real, you thought to yourself. I’m flying on my own again.
“Angel,” Ikaris murmured achingly. “My Angel.”
Tears rolled down your cheek.
“I thought—I thought I’d never see you like this again.” He swallowed. His eyes continued to roam and watch your wings. “They’re as beautiful as I remember them.”
“They’re more beautiful now, Ikaris, because it’s made with the same cosmic energy that’s running through you, the same one you gave to me so I could live.” You told him. “You made it happen.”
He pulled your closer to him, closing his eyes as he leaned his forehead against yours. “I love you,” he whispered with all emotion.
“Thank you,” you said. “Thank you for making me whole.”
You willed your wing to bend and caress the side of Ikaris’s face. The golden light illuminated his face and, in his eyes, you saw all the love he held for you. It was one and the same with the love you held in your eyes. He looked so beautiful bathed in your light, in the same brilliance that you shared with him.
“Ikaris?” you called after a while.
You both had flown hand in hand, cruising the skies as you watched the lights below you fade to black. It was nearly midnight and there was only a smattering of lights in the cities across the state, with some flickering until they died out. The moon moved higher in the sky, shining its redness down on the gray clouds. Against the backdrop of the blood moon, you looked like the Weeping Goddess that you were.
“Yes, angel?”
You watched his face; at the adoring expression he wore on it before you broke away from him. You grinned devilishly.
“Catch me if you can.”
And you soared the night.

-Requests-
Hello! I love getting requests. They are open at the moment and feel free to have fun with these suggestions ;)
I may take awhile to respond to a request due to writing on Wattpad and I usually write on here when I get a spur of the moment idea for a request.
Also if you like Wattpad as well I write on there too under W.P Darlingpan

I have written on Wattpad but it still may be a little iffy. I prefer not to do smut as I’d have no clue what to write but otherwise free reign. Nothings too dark so lay it on me.
Suggestions:
Yandere Character
Cuddling
Comfort
Them being found cheating
Kidnapping
Best friends to lovers confession
Parents
Older brother
Platonic Yandere
Older sibling
Etc...
Go wild! I’d love fun suggestions.
I do think it would be fun to write yandere stuff
Also I can write any reverse-harem relationship (aka more than one guy in the relationship but they don’t need to be with each other) from the same universe (ex: Draco and Harry and y/n, Steve and Bucky and y/n, Batboys x reader, you get the idea.)
Also I’ve added Yelena and Natasha to the list so if you’d like them with a sibling relationship together in the same story with Y/N then feel free to suggest that.
Feel free to suggest anything, no judgment!
Feel free to ask questions.

Tumblr media
It was rare to hear much other than the wildlife that surrounds your small cabin in the woods. The wilderness in Romania is vast and untouched other than the few homes that dot the landscape. The world is quiet here and you love it.
The night was clear and cold, the sky littered with a million stars shining like sparkling diamonds. You wrap your blanket around yourself tighter, snuggling up to Ghost and keeping your hands warm in his white fur. The dog’s snores are the loudest sound for miles.
You were so lost in the vision of the night sky you didn’t notice that Ghost had perked up his ears, deep brown eyes scanning the woods around the cabin. It wasn’t until you heard the light thumping of his tail along the porch swing that you realized someone was coming toward you.
Ghost gave no indication that he was frightened. In fact, he bounded off the porch to greet the man, tail up and wagging with vigor. You decided to watch the reaction of the man, having no feelings of unease yourself.
He drops to a knee, his face hidden behind long dark hair as he embraces Ghost. You start to walk toward them, steps slow and steady as you watch. As you get nearer you notice the man has something shiny that continuously catches the moonlight. You’re suddenly nervous. Is it a weapon? Will he hurt Ghost?
“Please. Don’t hurt him.” Your voice comes out smaller than you wanted, the endless wild swallowing the sound. The man stands, hands raised and that’s when you notice one is metal. Ghost sits at his heels, pawing him for more affection.
You move closer, “you have a metal arm.” It’s not a question, rather a statement of the obvious as you now stand only a few feet away. He nods his head, “you have a nice dog.” You giggle, your body relaxing as you smile, “he likes you.”
“Who are you?” His head tilts to the side slightly as he steps back. In the next second you feel a rush of wind as he unfurls a pair of white wings so large, they block out your view of the moon. You stumble backward, not out of fear, but complete awe.
Once again you state the obvious, “you have wings!” It’s his turn to laugh, “yes.” “But I don’t understand…how?” He hangs his head, his voice merely a whisper on the breeze as he explains, “I was an angel once, but I’ve been cast out. I was brainwashed. Made into a monster to do terrible things. I tried to tell them it wasn’t me. Nothing I did could convince them to trust me, so they banished me to Earth.”
You instinctively reach out for him, your hands grasping his as you take in the beauty of his wings. They hold the color of a pearl in sunlight, an iridescent shine to each feather as they seem to reflect every color of the rainbow. “So beautiful,” you murmur as you release his hands and reach up to run your fingers along the soft feathers.
He shudders and you pull away, “I’m sorry, I should has asked first.” He looks at you and for the first time you notice the blue of his eyes, more beautiful than any ocean, “it’s not that, it’s just…no one has touched me for so long.”
“Come inside. It’s warm, I have food…” you trail off, realizing you don’t even know if he can be cold or hungry. “I shouldn’t burden you; I’ll be fine on my own.” You ignore his protest, grabbing his metal hand and dragging him to the cabin, Ghost loping around your feet in excitement. “Yes, yes, he’s coming inside with us,” you laugh.
As he walks up to the porch, he tucks away his wings and you make your amazement known, the gasp leaving your lips loud in the silence of the night. “They are so beautiful; I wish you could leave them out.” You notice a light dusting of pink on his cheeks as he dips his head in thanks, “I don’t want to destroy everything in your house, they are quite large.” You smile in silent agreement and head inside.
The light from within gives you a better look at his condition. His hair is messy and his skin dark with dirt. “I’m going to run you a bath so you can clean up,” you state, your tone leaving no room for negotiation. You turn to walk toward the bathroom, stopping mid step and looking over at him, “I never asked your name.”
“They called me the Winter Soldier, but I’m no longer a weapon to be used. You can just call me Winter.” Your eyes crinkle with a smile, “Ok, Winter, follow me.” He trails behind you, Ghost in tow and you set up the bath. You leave him to it and head to the kitchen to prepare some hot tea.
A half hour has gone by and you decide you should check on him. You gently knock at the door, hearing a quiet “come in,” from the other side. Winter is laid out in the bath, foamy bubbles covering most of his form as he seems to be relaxed.
“Can I wash your hair,” you blurt out before thinking. Your eyes lower at your boldness, afraid you may have insulted him. The light chuckle that dances on the air surprises you as you look up to see him really smile for the first time. His blue eyes are bright as he motions for you to come over and hands you the shampoo.
You pour some into your palms, rubbing them together to make it foam and begin to delicately massage his scalp. He closes his eyes, surrendering to the contentment your hands bring him. You take in the beauty of his face, hard lines outlining his soft lips and dark lashes, the ocean blue of his eyes hidden beneath.
You take your time, working the shampoo through his hair for several minutes before rinsing it. “There are towels right here and I left some of my dad’s old clothing, so you have something clean to wear.” “Thank you, y/n.”
You turn to leave, stopping dead in your tracks and whirling around, “how do you know my name? I never told you.”  His eyes are light with mischief, “Ghost told me.” Your own eyes widen before a small smile plays at your lips, “he better not spill anything else!”
You can hear Winter’s chuckle all the way to the kitchen as Ghost gives you his best puppy dog eyes, “don’t look at me like that, you! You better not give away any other secrets!” He trots over to you, nudging your hand with his nose and leaning his body against your legs. “Oh, I know, I know, I love you too.”
“He’s a very good dog.” You jump at the sound of Winter’s voice not realizing he had been standing in the doorway. With a hand to your heart you reply, “he is and don’t sneak up on me like that!” You motion for him to sit at the small wooden table in the kitchen, bringing over tea and some cookies you had made.
“I’m not sure if you even eat but I thought if you were going to eat anything, a cookie is definitely a good choice.” He picks one up in his large hand, eyes on you as he takes a bite. The satisfied groan he makes causing you to squeal in happiness. “Oh, I’m so happy you like it!” He finishes the cookie and asks for another as you both sip tea and talk. He focuses on you and what brought you here, wanting to know all about your life.
You talk for many hours, the sun peaking over the nearby mountains as the dark blue of the sky starts to give way to orange and pink. “You’re tired” he states, as you look at him through droopy lids. “I am, very,” you say, half yawning. “Maybe we can do that thing where two people put their arms around each other and rest?”
You’re at a loss for words, the realization that he may not know what a hug or a cuddle is hitting you hard. You try and hold back the tears threatening to spill as you lead him to your couch, pulling him down to sit. You lift his arm and put it around you, leaning against his chest as your own arms circle his waist.
He rests his chin on your head, his other arm pulling you closer as you both stare out the large floor to ceiling windows that overlook the mountains. It’s a spectacular sunrise. Made even more so by the fact that you’re cradled in the arms of an angel.

Solaris Caelum (8)
Asuka's hindsight leads the gang to NERV when the power goes out right in time for an Angel attack.

8. Not So Itsy Bitsy Spider
It was an exceptionally hot day in Tokyo-3, the kind that made one wish Second Impact had made Japan suffer an eternal winter rather than an eternal summer. It seemed as if no one wanted to do anything but yet this day found a group of NERV employees at the laundromat. Ritsuko sighed as she withdrew a stack of her laundry from the washer, "The cost of doing laundry...it's been killing me."
One of her companions, Maya, laughed softly, "I don't even have time to wash my clothes most days..."
Aoba grumbled, "At least you can sleep in a home off-base."
Maya sighed, "You could have requested to be placed off-base, you know?"
Aoba only grumbled more in response as he followed them out. All that sort of thing was too much work but being so close to work made him wish he had done it now. Not that he would admit that.
From there, they boarded the train to see the Vice Commander. Ritsuko greeted him, "Good morning, Vice Commander," and sat by him with some distance between them.
Maya and Aoba snapped to attention, "Good morning, sir!" they cried in unison.
Fuyutski lowered his newspaper. He nodded to acknowledge them, "Morning," and went back to reading his paper.
Maya and Aoba stood, holding onto the bar. "You're quite early," Ritsuko commented to Fuyutski.
"Well, I have to go up top in Ikari's place."
"Ah," Ritsuko nodded in understanding, "Isn't today the City Council's regular meeting?"
Fuyutski rolled his eyes from behind his newspaper, "It's a pointless job. Ikari has always thrust the sundry tasks onto me. Without the Magi, I'd be lost. "
Ritsuko nodded once more, "Speaking of which, the city elections are approaching up there, right?"
"The City Council is merely a shell. The municipal government, after all, is in fact run by the Magi."
Aoba arched an eyebrow, "The Magi? The three super computers?"
Fuyutski nodded, "Government by majority decision of three different computers. It's a system that is properly in line with the fundamentals of democracy."
Maya looked at Aoba, "The council obeys their decisions too! That's a city of science for you!" she sighed and smiled, "It really is an era where science reigns supreme."
Aoba furrowed his eyebrows, "Talk about an old-fashioned line. Sounds a little shady but I guess if it gets the job done, it doesn't really matter,"
"That's why you're only on the bridge!" Maya teased.
Aoba huffed softly and glanced away.
Fuyutski glanced at Ritsuko, "Come to think of it, you're running an experiment on Unit 00 today, right?"
Ritsuko nodded, "We need to make sure there's no issues with it after the cross-synch with Kaworu. So we're running the second prolonged activation test at 10:30."
Fuyutski nodded, "I'm looking forward to good news then."
An hour or so later, there wasn't much good news to look forward to. The emergency alarm blared through the testing facility. Unfazed, Ritsuko glanced at Maya, "Abort the experiment. Cut the circuits."
"Switching circuits."
The testing room went dark for a moment before the lights came back on. "We're still having a problem here..." Ritsuko murmured, looking over Maya's shoulder.
"Yes, we're getting closer though," Maya assured her.
"Good. We don't need one of our Evas acting up. Lower the reciprocal conversion rate but 0.01 and recommence the activation experiment."
"Gotta love having a short day!" Toji stretched as they left school.
Asuka huffed, "Not for us! We have to check into NERV later!"
Toji snorted, "Sucks for you. Me and Ken are gonna hang out at his house!"
"Yeah, I gotta tell my brother about that parent-student conference. I mean, he is my guardian for the most part," Kensuke shrugged.
"Ah, yeah! Gotta ask my dad! See if NERV will take a second to let him off," Toji paused, "No offense. "
"None taken," Kaworu answered, "I'm not sure who will check in for me though. Perhaps Misato."
Toji blinked, "Someone has to have been taking care of you!"
Kaworu shrugged, "Not here, as far as I know. And I doubt my guardian in England would want to deal with that."
"I guess I'd have to tell my dad," Shinji slumped at the mere thought of calling him.
"Shinji!" Asuka cried, making him jump, "I'm pretty sure Misato is charge of that! Remember her scolding us about our grades!"
"Oh..." Shinji sighed, "You're right."
"You can't really want him to show up!" Asuka said.
"I mean, I just..." Shinji paused, rubbing his arm, "I dunno. I just want him to be involved somehow..."
"Well, best if you don't call. He might yell at you!" Asuka said, "Then we'd have to get onto his case."
"Getting onto the Commander's case?" Rei echoed, an eyebrow raised.
"Well, hypothetically. I wouldn't be surprised if the man's office was booby-trapped!" Asuka waved her arms for emphasis.
Shinji chuckled and Asuka smiled, "Let's just head on to NERV. We won't really have the time to go home then come back."
Misato herself was on her way to her personal office to get the day's paperwork over and done with. It was a thankless job but it was hers so she couldn't opt out. She stepped inside the elevator, preparing to press the button to go up.
"Hey! Hold up!" came Kaji's voice down the hallway.
With a stony expression that would make the Commander envious, she pressed the button, watching the doors slowly close on Kaji.
A hand darted through them and the doors stopped, opening once more to show a relieved Kaji. Misato huffed, redirecting her expression away from him. He stood by her, catching his breath. He glanced at her, "Man, that run really took a bit outta me!"
He turned to face her, "You've certainly got a black expression."
Misato turned her nose up at him, "It's from seeing your loathsome face first thing in the morning!"
Kaji laughed, unperturbed by her. Misato rolled her eyes, "Really nothing bothers you, does it?"
"Well, nothing you're doing right now."
Misato sighed and leaned against the wall, watching the floor tick up. Then the lights went out and the elevator was flooded with an orange gloom. Kaji looked at Misato, "What do you think?"
She met his gaze, "Er, it's bound to switch to the backup power supply soon."
A few minutes passed.
"I hope."
Hyuga was the only one of the main bridge staff not at base. To his credit, the day was supposed to be a slow one. He sighed as he adjusted the bags in his arms, "Man, she can be such a lazy slob. Can't Katsuragi pick up her own laundry?"
He looked at the bag full of her clothes and sighed, "Yet, I never say no. And not because she's my superior..."
He shook his head to clear his thoughts and looked up at the crosswalk light to see if it was time to cross. It went dead. "What?"
Back in the testing chamber, it was dim. Maya, ever dutiful, reported, "The main power supply has been interrupted. Voltage is at zero," she looked at Ritsuko.
Along with every other tech in the room. Ritsuko chuckled nervously, "Well, it wasn't me."
She turned, "Let's get to Central. I don't think the power failed only here."
Maya stood and followed her to the door. She asked, "What do you think is going on?
Ritsuko hummed in thought, "The power is off. But it's not coming on. That makes me suspicious."
Maya frowned, "I hope it's just a fluke."
"As do I."
In the Command Center, Aoba was shaking his head as he sat at his station, "It's no good, the backup circuits are not connecting."
Fuyutski, who had come down from his usual lofty perch, cried, "This can't be! Reroute all remaining power supplies to maintaining the Magi and Central Dogma."
Aoba spoke up, "But that will interfere with life support systems."
"I don't care!" Fuyutski snapped, "With the Magi, we'll get everything back up sooner!"
"Huh," Shinji raised an eyebrow as Rei swiped her card and the doors to NERV did not react.
He swiped his with similar results. "Try yours, Kaworu," he suggested.
"I don't think it'll work if either of yours didn't," he said.
"Door could be broken. Or power is out," Asuka suggested.
"That is unlikely," Rei spoke up, "NERV has sufficient backup power."
"Well, just in case, let's go around the side," Asuka gestured with a jerk of her head.
A few more minutes passed in the elevator and Misato sighed and crouched, inspecting the buttons, "This isn't normal."
With a tilt of the head, Kaji asked, "What's the power system here?"
"There are three main systems, main, sub and reserve. It's unthinkable for all three to fail simultaneously."
"Which would mean..."
"We should not assume that the breakers didn't fail on their own, but rather were taken down on purpose."
Fuyutski had returned to the top tier of the Command Center with the Commander, lighting a candle as he listened to the Commander. "Regardless of cause, this is not an optimal situation. It would be disastrous if an Angel attacked right now."
As if on cue, a military installation had just picked up something off the coast of the former Atami region. The commander of it commented, "It's likely the eighth one."
One of the officers spoke up, "I agree."
Another asked, "So what is the plan?"
"We go on alert status for now, as is procedure."
The second officer said, "It's most likely going to Tokyo-3 anyway."
He muttered under his breath, "Where else? There's nothing we will need to do."
A few minutes passed and one of the techs reported, "We have no response from Tokyo-3."
"What?!" the first officer cried, "What are those NERV guys doing?"
The second officer raised an eyebrow, "It's unlike them to slack off."
Ritsuko and Maya were still navigating their way to Central, climbing up a ladder as they did. "I thought gangway ladders were decorative holdovers from the past. Who would think we'd be using them?"
"Well, to prepare is to prevent!" Maya said from behind her.
Ritsuko chuckled, "You're just full of those, aren't you?"
"I'm right, aren't I!" Maya cried.
"Of course. One would never know what will happen."
"Nothing's working," Shinji commented, having run his card again.
"None of the facilities are working. That is odd," Rei turned to Asuka, "You may be correct."
"Damn right, I am! I bet something happened below."
Rei nodded, "A natural assumption."
"Let's get in contact then with the headquarters then," Shinji suggested as he picked up one of the emergency phones.
All he got was silence for his efforts, "Phones aren't working. I think Asuka is onto something with the power. What do we do now then?"
Rei sat, opening her bag to retrieve a small booklet from it. She opened it and began to study it. Shinji asked, "What are you doing, Rei?"
"It's the emergency manual," Asuka explained, "I have one too. Rather, we all should."
"Do not bother pulling them out. I say we go to headquarters," Rei put it back and rose to her feet, "I'll lead."
She pointed down the walkway, "We can get below through Route 07 over here," and without waiting for a response, began to walk down that way.
"Yeah, let's follow Rei. She must know the place better than us," Asuka nodded.
Rei lead them to the door, "Correct. I have been here longer."
"How long?" Shinji asked.
"...all my life."
"Wow, really? How come?" Shinji blinked in surprise.
Rei didn't miss a beat, "My guardian is the Commander so I've never lived anywhere else."
Asuka dared to glance at Shinji. Unlike his father, he did not know how to mask his emotions so his face shifted between surprise then annoyance then full on anger then resignation. Asuka looked away, "At least we'll get to base in a timely manner."
Rei's response was frustrating. Rei's origin was something Asuka never actually figured out. It seemed like she knew everything else but there was a missing piece that eluded her. Rei was a parentless child who was the ward of Commander Ikari and eerily obedient to him. So her saying she lived there her entire life was not a lie. But how did she come to be here? A child of former employees, the child of Commander Ikari, a test tube baby even?
They stopped in front of the door, "Will the doors work?" Shinji asked.
"Manual door," Asuka smiled, "Go on Shinji, Kaworu."
"Wow, you really rely on other people for this," Shinji sighed as he took a hold of the crank and pulled.
"Oh no, just you and Kaworu are standing around a whole lot."
Kaworu joined Shinji and with a heave, the crank began to squeal and turn. The doors opened and Kaworu smiled, "Let's go,"
Back at the military installation, there was still little luck, "Still no response from Tokyo-3."
The second officer snapped, "Damn those Joint Staff bastards! They only rely on us at times like this!"
The commander, ever cool, said, "What does the government say?"
The second officer rolled his eyes, "Those bastards in Tokyo-2? They're apparently getting ready to run!"
A cool but withering look from the commander sobered him up. One of the techs said, "The Angel is still active and advancing."
The commander looked forward again, "In any case, we need to get into contact with NERV."
"But how?" the second officer asked.
"By actually going there," the first officer said.
Hyuga was on his way to NERV, as there wasn't much else to go. Going home was useless and ay any case, NERV needed every hand. If Tokyo-3 was down, NERV was too. The two were inexplicably connected.
A large military plane flew over, its broadcast drifting over the dead Tokyo-3, "This is the third district ASDF! An unidentified object is moving toward this area. All residents must move to their designated shelters."
There wasn't much else an unidentified object could be so Hyuga realized immediately. "Big trouble!" he gasped, "Must be an Angel!"
He took off at a run, "I've got to report this to Headquarters at once! But how?"
A van drove down the rode in the distance, droning election propaganda. He watched it then grinned, "Lucky me."
In the dreaded elevator, it was hot. It was beyond hot. Misato has stripped off her jacket to her tank top up and was fanning under it. She sighed, "Boy, it's so hot."
"Yeah, the air conditioners are out too. Katsuragi, if you're so hot, why don't you take off your shirt?" he flashed her a grin, "No reason for shyness between us. After all, it's nothing I haven't seen before."
Misato hissed and snatched her jacket off the floor, putting it back on and zipping it up to her chin, "Don't get any funny ideas just because we're in this situation."
Kaji chuckled and looked away, "Oh no, the "love in the elevator" situation is far too cliche for me. I only have your best interests in mind."
"How about you? Those long sleeves must be hot too!" she smiled smugly at him.
Kaji blinked, "If you're asking for me to take off my shirt, you could just ask," he went to unzip his shirt.
"Wait, no, I didn't mean it!"
Hyuga, along with the driver and speaker he had dragged into his mission, tore through the empty streets. The speaker cried through the intercom, "Pursuant to the declaration of a state emergency, emergency vehicle passing through!"
"Wait!" she cried, pointing to the blocked off tunnel they were speeding towards, "That's a dead end!
"It's alright! Charge!" Hyuga cried, "This is an emergency!"
The woman speaker wailed, "No, no! Stop the car!"
The driver grinned like he was having the time of his life, "Roger!" and charged through, breaking the barrier.
Meanwhile, Fuyutski sighed, fanning his face, "This Geofront was designed to be a self-sufficient colony even isolated from the outside. Theoretically, it's impossible for all of the power sources to fail at once."
Ritsuko had come up to the top tier to talk with him once she arrived. "It's not supposed to happen," she cut in, "To me, that means someone did this deliberately."
The Commander said smoothly, "Their purpose would be likely to investigate this facility."
"So they could determine HQ's structure through the process of restoration," she turned away, "I'll run a dummy system through the Magi so it'll make it harder for them to get the full picture. I'll have it restore us out of order too."
"I'll leave it to you."
"Yes, sir," and with that, she departed.
Fuyutski shook his head, "The first havoc wrecked upon our Headquarters directly, not caused by an Angel but rather our own kind. Just goes to show."
Gendo said from behind his hands, "Ultimately, the enemy of mankind is mankind. It would not do for us to forget this."
"This would normally only take two minutes. Is this really a corridor?" Shinji asked.
"An emergency corridor, yes," Rei said.
Shinji frowned, not quite believing her but not one to complain. "We'll get there sooner or later. We have time," Asuka shrugged.
"You're very calm..." Shinji said.
"Well, Rei knows her way around!"
"So...you trust her?" Kaworu asked, an eyebrow raised.
Asuka quieted him with a withering glare. "Quiet," Rei said, holding up her arm in front of Asuka.
A voice drifted from somewhere below, quiet but just loud enough to be understood. "Is that Hyuga?" Shinji asked.
Hyuga's voice got closer, "An Angel is approaching! Repeat, an Angel is approaching!"
Shinji gasped in surprise, "An Angel is approaching?!"
"Then let's get moving!" Asuka cried.
"I know a shortcut. Follow me," Rei said, walking forward to a vent in the wall.
She daintily pulled it out and set it on the floor before pulling herself up into it, "Come on," .
The other three followed her in. A few minutes passed in the tight space before Shinji asked, "Say, Asuka. What do you suppose the Angels are?"
Asuka would have looked back at him if she could, "That's a weird thing to ask right now."
"I mean, they're Angels. Messengers of God, enemies named after them at least. Why are we fighting them?"
Asuka considered her next words carefully, "I don't think they're like actual Angels, like out of heaven. Plus, they're attacking us so really we're just defending ourselves."
"I wonder why they're attacking us then. We haven't done anything to them."
"Beats me," Asuka shrugged.
It wasn't like she could tell him that they were after something NERV had. She had a hunch about what that something was but she hadn't found out last time nor did Kaworu tell her yet. Something else on the list of what to ask him.
"We get out here," Rei said from the front, pushing another vent out where it hit the floor with a metallic clang.
She climbed out and surveyed their surroundings, a forked crossroads. She pointed to the left, "I think we go left."
Asuka looked down the dim hallway, "Left, it is."
The hallway sloped downwards, a good sign. As they walked, Asuka asked, "What are these for anyways?"
Rei answered, "Most were put in here when construction began as a means to move around. So they are mostly unused now."
"Does anyone use them now?" Asuka poked for information.
"We are,"
In the back, Kaworu cracked up. "Shut it, Prettyboy!" Asuka snapped, "I meant anyone else."
Rei hummed softly, "Perhaps to move things but other than that, not that I know of."
Down in Central Dogma, Hyuga's "borrowed" van came squealing to a stop as he cried, "Angel is approaching! Immediate Eva dispatch will be necessary!"
Maya, who was looking down to the bottom of the command center cried, "Oh no!" she turned to the bridge in surprise.
The Commander rose, "Fuyutski, I leave this to you."
Fuyutski raised an eyebrow, "Ikari?"
He stepped onto the elevator, "I'll start preparing for the Eva launch in the cage."
"Don't tell me...manually?"
The Commander was annoyed which only showed in how he grabbed the rail, "There's an emergency diesel generator."
Fuyutski raised an eyebrow again, "No pilots."
"They will come," he said curtly and with that, he departed.
"We are close, this way," Rei said as she lead them.
They walked in silence for a few minutes more. Asuka asked, only to dispel the silence, "Rei, the Commander is your guardian, right?"
"Correct. I am his ward."
Asuka paused, debating for a moment. Then she scoffed, "He should treat you better."
"He treats me adequately."
Asuka glanced behind her and was surprised to find Shinji annoyed. Upon seeing her looking at him, he looked down. Asuka shook her head, "That's not the point. I bet he won't come to that conference either."
"Most likely no. No one will."
"That's...really depressing," Shinji said.
"I never thought of it that way."
"It is," Kaworu piped up, "A parent or guardian has a duty to their child and he does not fulfill it to you or Shinji. He has failed this and thus, is not a guardian."
Rei appeared to think on this but then said, "He is still my Commander and is yours."
Asuka sighed, "It's not like we have a choice to disobey him on that front."
Rei's next words were slow, thoughtful, "And neither do I."
After that, it was quiet. They came to a section of the hallway that was full of rubble. "Can't open this," Kaworu quipped.
"Then we go through a duct. Or break through one," Rei picked up a pipe, testing it in her hands for weight.
An audible click went through the chamber as the final entry plug was loading into place. The techs and the Commander let their ropes go, the techs shuffling awkwardly at the Commander's presence. The Commander himself walked away to the side. Maya, peering through a pair of binoculars, reported to Ritsuko, "The plug is fixed and ready."
Ritsuko nodded, "Now, for the kids. Let's sit down to wait."
They had just settled back in when a racket came from above them with a bunch of voices. Ritsuko looked up, her lips twisted in confusion. With a final groaning clatter, the vent opened up and deposited three teenagers onto her floor. Rei dropped from it with a dainty landing.
Ritsuko smiled, "There you are!"
Asuka bolted up, "We are prepared to sortie!"
Shinji picked himself up, "But how will we? There's no power, how are the Evas?"
"In standby," Ritsuko jerked her head in the direction of Unit One, head bowed and the entry plug set in place.
Shinji blinked in surprise, "But how?"
"All done by hand. It was the Commander's plan actually."
"My father's...?"
A cry came from below, "Preparing all units for entry!"
Shinji walked over and looked over the rail to find his father with the techs, pulling the entry plug to load it into Unit One. He looked to his side to find Rei, looking down at the Commander with a passive expression. "Commander Ikari had faith that you would come and prepared everything," Ritsuko said.
Shinji gasped softly, this new piece of information only adding to his confused feelings. His father...having faith in him? Beside him, Rei's face twitched but she betrayed nothing. Shinji turned away and prepared to suit up.
Below them, the techs buzzed with activity. Once the pilots were inside, a key was turned and with the rough rumbling of power, the entry plug screwed in.
Maya reported, "Plugs inserted."
Ritsuko nodded, "All units activated using backup power supply."
The Commander, beside them, said, "Release the primary lock bolts."
The techs took axes to the thick cords holding the lock bolts in place. Red fluid sprayed from them and with a mechanical click, the bolts disengaged. "Zero pressure. Each unit is free." Maya reported.
The Commander nodded ever so slightly, "Go ahead. Each unit, force open your restraints under your own power! Head out!" he yelled.
With the groan of straining metal, each unit pushed out of their restraints. Above, the Angel, a spider-like creature on spindly legs stopped and crouched over the base. False eyes were patterned all over it in colorful hues but at the bottom of it was a single real blue eye. It began to weep an orange acid that sizzled and ate through the concrete below it.
In Central Dogma, Hyuga cried, "The target appears to have stopped right above us!"
Ritsuko flinched, Hyuga's voice bouncing around the chamber from his speaker. She recomposed herself in a moment, "Get ready! Hurry up!" she cried to the pilots.
Maya cried back, a similar speaker in her hand, "The emergency batteries are loaded!"
Ritsuko stood tall, a knowing and confident smirk on her face, "All right, we can do this! Launch!"
All three Evas walked past them, the ground shuddering beneath their feet. Asuka climbed first into one of the shafts that lead out of the chamber, Shinji and Rei clamoring after her. Kaworu stood beside the team, watching them leave with a thoughtful expression on his face.
"We're approaching the vertical shaft," Rei reported, only a few seconds into their climb.
"Wait for me. I'll check it out," Asuka gestured at them to wait with Unit Two's hand.
She poked her head out into the shaft. It was silent. She glanced up, unable to see the top. "Asuka, we have limited power..." Shinji warned.
"Wait, I'm thinking how we get up there," she said.
A low sizzle filled the chamber before daylight flooded the shaft. Following it was a thick orange liquid fell just inches from her face, hitting the floor at the bottom of the shaft and eating through it. "There's acid," she reported.
"So it appears its using it to invade HQ?" Rei asked.
"Acid?! How do we get through it? We only have three minutes." Shinji asked at the same time.
Asuka chuckled, "You forget you have a master strategist here! I have a plan that will get it done in three minutes flat! Less if we're lucky."
"Wow, Asuka! You're a genius!"
Asuka smiled to herself. Yes, she was a genius but she also had the power of hindsight. "Here's the plan. One of us defends, the other shoots and the last acts as backup."
"I will def-" Rei began.
"I will defend, you will act as backup at the bottom of the shaft, alright?"
Rei was quiet then conceded, "Alright. What will I be doing?"
"You will go to the bottom of the shaft, in case one of us falls or drops a rifle. You will also give Shinji yours?"
"Why?" Shinji asked.
"You're offense. Double the firepower. You'll be in the middle of the shaft and shoot the Angel when its open."
"What is your role?"
She grinned, "Defense. Not only will I defend you from the acid but I will use my AT Field to neutralize the Angel's AT Field. Thus, I'm at the top of the shaft. So Shinji, don't get into position until I am? Got it?"
"Got it! But are you sure you'll be safe?"
"I'll be fine. Think of it as me repaying the favor from last time. Are you ready, Rei?"
"I understand."
"Then let's go!" she swung out into the shaft, grabbing the sides of the shaft and crawling upward. Above, she could see the Angel's single blue eye. Below, she could hear her comrades getting into position. The eye blinked and a wave of acid fell onto her, setting all her nerves on fire. She bit back a cry and hissed to herself, "This...is...nothing," images of flying white figures coming to her mind unbidden.
A cry came over the comm, breaking her from the images, "Asuka, get clear!"
She swerved out of the way, a rain of shots racing by her, into the Angel and out the other side. The Angel stood on its own for only a moment, then slumped, its legs going awry. Asuka sighed in relief, her skin still stinging somewhat, "Angel is dead."
Back in the elevator, neither occupant even knew there was an Angel, much less it had been defeated. But what one did know is she really wanted to get out. So that's how Misato was perched on Kaji's shoulders, trying to pry open the emergency door at top, "Oh damn it! Why won't it work!"
Kaji glanced up at her, "Misato, be caref-"
"Don't look my skirt!" she kicked him in the back
"Yes, ma'am..." he had only wanted to make sure she wasn't going to fall.
The lights clicked on, the mere shock of the bright light causing Misato to recoil...and fall over. Kaji himself yelped and fell over, her falling onto him in a heap. With a ding, the elevator opened, revealing Ritsuko, Hyuga and Maya.
Hyuga cringed, Ritsuko slapped her hand to her face and Maya sighed, "Really?"
"Oh no! Love in an elevator is far too cliche!" Kaji cried
"Shut it!" Misato hissed.
Night had fallen over Tokyo-3, the stars twinkling above in the absence of unnatural light. The three pilots had trekked out of Tokyo-3 and set their Evas on the ridge overlooking the city like a trio of silent guardians. The pilots themselves had laid on the ground, watched the sunset and now stargazed. Asuka spoke, breaking the silence, "Seeing the city like this makes me feel...alone, like I'm alone in the universe."
Shinji looked over at her then the city then the sky, "Yeah. I feel so small."
The lights flicked back off, Tokyo-3 awash in an electric glow. "There," Asuka smiled, "The universe feels a little more crowded again."
Rei spoke up, her quiet voice drifting into the night, "Man has always feared the darkness, carving away at it with fire."
"Well, the darkness is frightening. Who knows what is in it..." Shinji trailed off, "Do you think that's what makes mankind a special species? Why the Angels keep attacking us?"
"I think it's more than that. Who knows why they're attacking," Asuka shrugged, "We just need to do our jobs and protect humanity."
She turned to Rei, "What do you think, Rei?"
Rei hummed in thought then said, "Eva is our bond to humanity and we are bonded to Eva. Our bond to Eva and humanity dictates we do what is in humanity's best interests. Right now, that is defeating the Angels."
Asuka paused then smiled, "I'm glad you said that."

Family Matters
A Savior one-shot
Ikaris x fem!guardian angel!reader
Summary: Ikaris has felt a hum for millennia and he's never questioned it, until he found the source.
One-shot Summary: You didn’t want to see her like this—never wanted to see any of them in any sort of pain—and you knew you would do everything you could to make her feel better.
Word Count: ~6k words
Warnings: whump! Parent!Ikaris, mentions of diseases and medical procedures (nothing too explicit), some profanity, medical jargon (is that a warning?)
A/N: Hello, hello! A few weeks back, I mentioned missing Angel and Ikaris and I also did say we have a certain mind controller who's coming to guest-star in a one-shot. Druig would have to wait, because it's Sprite's time to shine. So this takes place about a year after the Emergence and I made Sprite age 12 here, just in case there is any confusion. Like always, this isn't beta'd so all mistakes are mine and mine alone. Reviews, comments, suggestions, requests (and reblogs) are super welcome! Please enjoy Family Matters!
Catch Ikaris and Angel's origin story here! (SAVIOR)

There was something wrong with Sprite, you knew.
Usually, she would tell you and Ikaris of how frustrating it was to deal with children—which was ironic because she was the same physical age as they were and everyone else considered her a child—and she would vent out how much she wanted to just go out and do all the things she wasn’t able to do when she was still stuck in the Eternally young body Arishem chose to put her in. Instead, when she got home, she looked a lot sicklier than before. You had half a mind to not to send her to school earlier today, worried about how she changed from bad to worse in less than twelve hours. At breakfast, she was already complaining of a mild tummy ache but now, you watched as she doubled over her dinnerplate and knew it was nothing mild anymore.
Yep. There was definitely something wrong with Sprite.
“Sprite?” you called softly as you approached her. You touched her shoulder and recoiled at the heat that emanated from her. It was far too hot to be her normal body temperature. “Sprite, why didn’t you tell me you’re feverish?”
She only groaned in response, still hunched over her dinner. “Didn’t-didn’t want to w-worry you,” she told you slowly before groaning again.
You frowned, knowing that it was impossible to not worry for any of the other Eternals and her, and crouched to meet her face. “How long have you been feverish? You weren’t this warm when you left for school today.”
She scrunched her face again as another wave of pain took over her. “It only got worse at school.”
“With the stomach ache too?”
She nodded.
“What’s wrong with Sprite?”
You looked up to see your boyfriend as he entered the kitchen. Ikaris was frowning in concern as he watched his former-fellow-Eternal-now-turned-foster-kid. Even when he wasn’t showy of it, you knew he cared for her too.
“She’s feverish,” you told him, placing your hand on her back and rubbing soothing circles at it. You turned your attention back to her. “Do you think you can finish your dinner before you go to bed?”
She shook her head. “C-can’t. I don’t have the appetite for it.”
Something’s wrong-wrong, you thought to yourself worriedly. You cooked her favorite food tonight and even when she was full from having an after-school snack, she always made room to eat it. She never had no appetite for it. Except now, when she looked really, really sick.
But you kept your worry to yourself, not wanting to alarm the both of them.
“Do you want soup?” you asked instead.
“No.”
“Well, you need to eat anything. Do you think you can down a bottle of Gatorade?”
“Maybe. I j-just wanna lie down.”
“Okay. I’ll bring you some upstairs.”
You watched worriedly as she slowly made her way back to her room, arm still around her middle and hunched in pain as she ascended the stairs. Ikaris watched her the same way you did.
“I don’t know much about humans and diseases, Angel,” Ikaris told you, tone hopeless. “Is there any way I can help Sprite?”
“I don’t know, my love. The best I can do is bring her fever down.” You told him with a helpless shrug. You took her plate from the table and started to throw her uneaten food if it wasn’t for Ikaris taking it from your hands and doing it himself. “Can you bring a basin of water and a hand towel to her room?”
“Okay. Do you need anything else?”
“No. Just that.” You took the bottle of energy drink from the fridge and made your way to Sprite’s room.
You knocked gently, pushing the door open. Sprite was on her bed, lying in a fetal position on her side, covers up to her ears. There was still that pained strain about her face and your heart went out to her. You let some of your calming powers to your fingertips and you touched the side of her face. The relief was instant on her and her breathing became deeper and even.
“Hey.” You said quietly. “I have your drink. I just need you to take a couple of sips.”
She rose from her bed slowly. You handed her the uncapped energy drink and watched as she took tentative sips before passing it back to you.
“You need to drink some more,” you urged.
“No—” She lurched forward, a loud heaving noise coming from her before she groaned. “I’m so nauseous. I don’t want to eat or drink anything.”
Your brows knitted together in concern as you help her upright. She grabbed her abdomen again, and tears now sprung at the corner of her eyes.
“It hurts, Y/N.” she whimpered.
Your heart ached at the pain in her voice. Sprite was never one to complain about any body ailments and this was the first time you heard her whimper.
“What hurts, honey?” you asked, holding her face gently and suffusing your calming powers over her. “Where does it hurt?”
“My right side. It hurts really bad.”
The door to her room opened and you turned to see Ikaris bring over the basin to you. He set it down and watched from the foot of Sprite’s bed, not knowing what to do. You didn’t even want to tell him that Sprite refused to drink more of the Gatorade. Ikaris would just worry and then you would worry and you would have done nothing because you would be busy worrying.
“Ikaris, can you try calling Phastos? My phone is on the dresser in our bedroom.” You were hugging Sprite now, rubbing her back, trying your best to soothe her as you waited for Ikaris to get hold of Phastos.
“I d-don’t even know what happened, Y/N.” Sprite told you. “I thought it was the-the flu but it didn’t g-go away after today.”
“Shh. It’s okay, Sprite. We’ll know once we ask Phastos.” You wiped the sweat from her forehead, pitying your friend for the pain she was going through. You didn’t want to see her like this—never wanted to see any of them in any sort of pain—and you knew you would do everything you could to make her feel better.
Sprite was human now and that meant she was more fragile than both you and Ikaris. And she was a little girl, not a grown adult like your late husband Jack had been. When he was sick, you only nursed him back to health by wiping his brow with cool water and feeding him a bowl of chicken soup. But what he had was different; he had only been feverish and it went away after a day and it was nothing close to what Sprite had, who was heaving and nauseous and obviously in more pain than he had been.
Ikaris entered the room, your phone ringing in his hand. “Didn’t he say they’re going on a vacation?” he asked you.
Oh, right. “Well, we’ll try, okay? Maybe he’ll pick it up when he sees it’s from me.”
Only, Phastos didn’t and you were still left with an in-obvious-pain tween, whose complaints were increasing by the minute.
“I think we should get you to the hospital, Sprite.” You told her gently, wiping the sweat that dotted her forehead.
She shook her head vehemently at that, groaning. “No. No. I don’t want them to stick me with needles.”
“We don’t know what’s wrong with you,” you said. “You’re human now, Sprite, and I think other humans would know what’s going on inside you.”
“B-but…”
“Please? You didn’t even eat dinner and you couldn’t even down half of the Gatorade. I’m starting to worry. At least in the hospital, they’ll take a look at you and know what’s wrong." You took her hand in yours and infused it with your power, knowing it was the only thing you could do for her for now.
"Y/N has a point, Sprite.” Ikaris said from behind you. “Maybe all they’ll do is give you painkillers when we get there.”
Sprite’s nod was small and feeble. You turned to Ikaris and nodded at him. “Get the car ready, my love. We’ll be downstairs.”
You pushed her covers aside and helped her rise slowly. She took one step but she doubled over and clutched her right side again, tears now falling from her eyes.
“It hurts so much,” you cried. “I can’t walk, Y/N.”
“I can carry you down if you’d let me.”
When she nodded, you swung her gently into your arms and brought her down to the car. You deposited her on the back seat and secured the seatbelt across her body. You took the front seat beside Ikaris and inputted the address to the hospital on the GPS. Taking a look at Sprite through the rear-view mirror, you only hoped that what she was experiencing was a nasty stomach bug that should go away in a day or two.
“Sprite, tell me everything that’s happened since you got this sick so I can tell it to the doctor.” You said to her.
She recounted everything: from the first moment she started feeling sick to the moment she couldn’t even stomach the smell of food because it made her nauseous. She told you of how difficult it was for her to go up the stairs and how the pain was always on her right and that it radiated outward with every jostle and step and even jump during her P.E. classes. You memorized every single thing she said just in time for you to arrive at the hospital.
You took her in your arms again and rushed to the E.R. when her groans and cries were growing concerning. The nurse took one look at Sprite and immediately asked for a stretcher. Once she was laid across it, the nurse whisked you away for the paperwork while a porter brought her to one of the observation cubicles.
“May I know what’s wrong with the patient?” the nurse asked as she handed you a clipboard with paperwork.
You told her everything Sprite had told you in the car while you answered the paperwork. Ikaris arrived a few minutes after, looking everywhere for any sign of Sprite.
“Where is she, Angel?” he asked you.
“Can someone get my mom?” you heard Sprite in one of the makeshift rooms of the E.R. “Please.”
You passed the pen to Ikaris, shooting an apologetic glance at the nurse. “My boyfriend will fill in the other details, ma’am. I need to get to my daughter.” To Ikaris, you said: “Can you finish this for me? Put in Phastos’s number for the other emergency contact. I just need to get to Sprite.”
You found Sprite in one of the curtain cubicles, hugging herself in a fetal position in bed, with an IV line stuck on her hand. Your heart called out to her as you sat beside her and took her hand in yours, softly brushing the hair on her forehead.
“Hey. I see they already got the needle in. Do you know if they took any blood samples?” you asked gently. You let your power to your fingertips and let them out with every stroke of her hair.
Sprite nodded and huddled closer to you. You let your head rest against the bed, forehead touching hers.
“You’ll be fine. I won’t let anything happen to you. I promised all of you, didn’t I?” you murmured. “Maybe I’ll let something happen to Ikaris once in a while because he deserves it.” You saw the impish smile on her face despite the pain she was in. “But I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“If this is what it takes to be human, I don’t want it.” she whispered.
“Getting sick is part of it, Sprite. My Jack went through something like this too and I panicked so hard because the hospitals weren’t as sophisticated as they are today. He lived through it without the medical intervention. We’re at the hospital now and you’re in a far better position than he had been. I’m sure you would get through this, too. You have the heart of a fighter.” You tucked her titian hair behind her ear.
“That’s you,” she said before hunching again. You tightened your hold on her hand.
“As my fake daughter,” you whispered, “I can say I passed on my fighter heart to you, too.”
She smiled again at that.
“Now, don’t worry about anything else. Right now, just rest and relax. Ikaris and I will talk to the doctors before they’ll talk to you. Is that okay?”
“Yeah,” she replied meekly.
“Are you hungry now? Do you want me to ask if I could get you something to eat?”
She shook her head. “I’m still nauseous.”
“Okay. Just rest and relax. I’m here. Ikaris is here.”
The night went by agonizingly slow. Ikaris finished the paperwork and found the two of you huddled close together. He sat opposite from you, patting Sprite’s shoulder from time to time to soothe her. Your fingertips had started to heat up from your constant usage of your powers but you didn’t complain, even happily letting more of your calm out to help your friend. Sprite, however, had calmed considerably but she still groaned and whined from time to time. Despite whatever it was in the IV that they put for pain relief, the pain in her abdomen didn’t let. You only grew more worried after every complaint.
The curtains parted. “Sprite?”
You looked up at the sound of Sprite’s name, to the doctor who held a chart in his hand and was looking at the three of you expectantly. “Sprite?”
You let go of Sprite’s hand and stood. “Yes, that’s my daughter’s name. I’m Y/N, her mother.”
“I’m Dr. Samuels. Her blood test results came back and—”
“Can we speak of this out of her earshot? I don’t want her to worry.” You asked.
“Of course. This way, please.” He parted the curtains for you.
“Do you mind if her dad would come along?”
“Not at all. Please, come this way.”
You nodded at Ikaris to follow the doctor and returned to Sprite, touching her face gently. “We’re just going to talk with the doctor and we’ll get back to you. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about.”
“Okay.”
You joined the two men outside of Sprite’s curtain cubicle. Dr. Samuels was showing Ikaris something on the clipboard when you stepped up to them.
“Her blood results all came back normal. So far, there is nothing wrong with Sprite.” The doctor told you. He pointed at some tests and told you that they were all within normal levels and that there shouldn’t be anything wrong with her.
“No. That’s not possible. She wouldn’t be in this amount of pain if everything else is showing up as normal.” You told them, frowning at the doctor.
“Unfortunately, the labs don’t lie. If I ask them to rerun the tests, it would show up the same thing.” He closed the chart with a click. “Have you maybe considered that she is just doing this to get out of school? Children sometimes tend to feign an illness to get out of going to school.”
You shook your head at him, offended he would even suggest something like that when she was undoubtedly in pain. “No. My daughter won’t do that. She’s not a crier but the way she cried in pain today told me something’s wrong with her.”
“The lab tests say otherwise.”
“Maybe there’s something you’ve overlooked?” Ikaris said. He had stood beside you and pulled you to him and was rubbing your arm in an attempt to relax you. Nothing could relax you, especially since this doctor was insistent nothing’s wrong with Sprite when there obviously was. “Did you run all the necessary tests for someone her age and the way she’s in pain?”
“Yes, I have but—”
“Doctor. I know my daughter. I know she’s in an inordinate amount of pain right now and every second I’m trying to convince you of that is another second of her in agony. She’s been in pain for nearly the whole day now. She can’t even sit up straight without clutching her right side. She can’t even take a step because her abdomen’s in too much pain. I’m pretty sure she’s not faking it.”
Dr. Samuels frowned at you and opened the chart once more. “Would you mind if I have a look at your daughter again, ma’am?”
“Please.” You parted the curtains yourself and stepped aside. “Be my guest.”
“Sprite, my name is Dr. Samuels.” The doctor said as he donned his examination gloves.
You and Ikaris stood the side opposite of the doctor and Sprite was looking at the both of you with fearful eyes. You only shook your head at her, assuring her by holding her hand.
“I’m going to do a bit of a physical exam on you. I’m going to be pressing on your abdomen. It shouldn’t hurt but if it does, you have to tell me when and where.”
At Sprite’s nod, the doctor began his exam. He pushed and prodded around her abdomen, checking for something you had no idea about but nodding his head when she didn’t react to any of it. Only when it came to her right side and he pressed down, she yelped and told them that that was where it hurt the most and had been hurting for the last few hours. Dr. Samuels excused himself and left in a hurry.
“Is something wrong, Y/N?” Sprite asked and you noted the fear in her voice.
You only shook your head at her, gripping her hand in yours tightly. “I’m sure that’s nothing. How are you feeling now?”
“It still hurts.” She groaned again and curled in on herself.
Dr. Samuels returned and introduced his companion—an ultrasound technician—to the three of you. The distressed look on Sprite’s face was almost funny if it weren’t for the circumstances.
“We’re going to take a look on the inside of your right side, okay, Sprite? You’ll feel a bit of pressure when she presses down on you but it should be over quick.” Dr. Samuels said.
You all kept your eyes on the grainy gray screen the doctor was looking, knowing that the three of you had no idea of whatever it was showing. The doctor and the technician spoke in hushed voices, pointing at the blurry figure on the screen. You fished out a couple of words like ‘swollen’ and ‘acute’ and ‘ready’ but that was the extent of what you heard. They were too quiet and they only spoke to each other in a language only they understood.
“Can I please talk to you outside while the tech finishes up the scan?” the doctor asked you and Ikaris.
You three stepped out once more but this time, there was an urgency to the doctor’s face. You swallowed the fear that came up to you and stood close to Ikaris.
“You’re right that there is something wrong with Sprite. Unfortunately, what she has is acute appendicitis. What happens is that her appendix is inflamed and that is what’s causing her pain. Unfortunately also, we cannot just diagnose appendicitis with blood work. When you told me she’s been having pain on her right side, that was what urged me to go check on her.”
You nodded dazedly. Acute appendicitis didn’t sound good to your ears. It didn’t sound nice to Ikaris too.
“What happens now? Will she just be given a bit of medication and she’ll be fine in the morning?” Ikaris asked the question you wanted to ask.
“No. We need to take her appendix out before it could burst. We wouldn’t want her to get peritonitis, which is far more serious than the appendicitis she has now. It could be life threatening.”
You looked at Ikaris, who in turn looked back at you with intense worry. You had never seen him like this before, but then again, he and his family were Eternals and none of them ever get sick. Ever.
“Appendectomy requires generalized anesthesia so she would be asleep for the whole procedure. She won’t feel a thing while it’s happening but she would feel the stitches when she wakes. Of course, as with any other invasive procedure, there are risks but with appendectomy, they’re only the usual possible risk of infection. It happens rarely but we’ll make sure it won’t happen to her. The operation is relatively safe with a 99% success rate, and frankly, it is the best option for her case.
“While normally we would want you to think about the operation, I don’t think we have the luxury of time now. Sprite’s appendix is close to bursting. The good thing is there is an emergency surgeon present who can operate on her at this moment. We can take it out now before any other complications could arise.”
“Of course,” you told him as you nodded. “Yes. Yes, of course.”
“I’ll go tell the surgeon now. We would need to keep her under observation after the operation so I suggest you have her admitted.” With that, Dr. Samuels left.
“Angel,” Ikaris said as he turned to you. You heard the hesitation in his voice and you understood perfectly. None of the Eternals had the need to undergo any medical procedure because none of them ever got sick. Sprite was the first in the family to be sick and of course, Ikaris worrying was perfectly normal. But you refused to be sucked in the worry-spiral, even if you were worrying so much for her.
You swallowed and gave him a wan smile, putting on a brave face. “We’ll worry later, okay? Sprite is our priority. We have to make her comfortable first.”
“Is this really the best thing to do? Do they have to operate on her? She’s just a kid.”
You touched the side of his face, watching as his tense shoulders relax at the contact of your power against his cheek. “Yes, my love. They studied these for years. Sprite’s in capable hands.”
“I don’t like it.”
“We don’t have to like it but it’s the best option.”
He sighed, relenting, knowing you were right. “Okay, Angel.”
“Thank you, my love. Do you think you can start her admission? Or you can stay with her while I do that?”
“You stay with her. I’ll take care of the other things.”
You brushed your lips lightly against his and pulled away to watch him leave. You took a deep breath, clearing your throat and practiced a smile before you entered Sprite’s makeshift mini room.
“Is it bad?” she asked you, still teary eyed.
You shook your head. “No. It’s nothing bad but what they’ll do is put you to sleep and when you wake up, you’ll be back to your normal self.”
“Y/N…”
“I promise.”
“I may look like a kid but you can speak to me as an adult, you know,” she reminded you.
Sometimes, you did forget you and Sprite were the same age.
You gave an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry.”
She groaned. “No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be surly. I’m just in so much pain.”
“The doctors will take care of it. They know what to do. You’ll be good as new tomorrow.”
She was quiet for a while and reached for your hand. “I’m scared.”
You didn’t want to admit to her that you were, too, so you only smiled an assuring smile at her and squeezed her hand. A porter came a few minutes after, explaining to the both of you that the operating theater was ready for her.
“Can my mom come?” Sprite asked the man.
“I’m sorry, Sprite, but she and your dad would have to stay out of the O.R.” he told her, readying to wheel her bed. “They can wait for you outside or in the room they’ll get you.”
You gave her a small smile, nodding encouragingly. “Remember, heart of a fighter.”
“Heart of a fighter,” she said back and let herself be wheeled away.
Ikaris secured a room for her but you both waited outside of the operating room where they put her in. You took it upon yourself to inform the rest of the family about what happened to Sprite and the procedure they’d do on her, giving them updates whenever you received some. You only watched as Ikaris paced the length of the waiting room, looking angry and anxious and, frankly, exhausted.
“My love,” you called to him. “If you keep pacing like that, you’ll make a hole on the floor. You’ve already worn out the carpet.”
Ikaris looked down on his feet, frowning to see if he did indeed do that before leaning against the wall, crossing his arms tightly against his chest. “I failed Sprite. I should’ve asked her if she was feeling okay when I picked her up from school.”
“Hey, hey, don’t blame yourself.” You went to him and pried his arms apart, holding on to his hands and looking up his eyes. “She’s Sprite; she hides things from us. It’s her schtick, much like you being a pain in my ass is.” You attempted to joke but it fell flat to the both of you. And it didn’t assuage whatever it was he was feeling.
“You’re right, it’s Sprite. That’s why I thought she was playing a prank on me.”
“Ikaris.”
“I should have been more attentive. We promised everyone you and I would look out after her and now she has whatever she has and I just think I didn’t do enough for her.”
“Don’t think that.”
“They’re cutting her open, Angel.”
“I know.”
“All because I didn’t ask her if she was okay.”
“They’d cut her open either way because that’s the only thing to do with acute appendicitis.”
“Angel,” he grumbled.
“What? You know I’m saying the truth. If you asked her earlier, it still won’t change the fact that she has acute appendicitis, which, by the way, isn’t any of our fault.”
“But—”
“No buts. No ifs. Stop blaming yourself for something you can’t control.”
He sighed, resigned. “I’m not good at this protector thing, am I?” he asked suddenly and a surprised chuckle bubbled out of you.
“No, you’re not,” you agreed, “And that’s fine because if you were, you’d put me out of business.”
He pulled you into his embrace and placed his chin on top of your head. You wrapped your arms around his waist and snaked your hands up and down his back.
“I was kidding when I agreed you’re not a good protector, my love,” you told him, voice muffled against his sweater. “You’re the best one there is. Just a few nights ago, you went and investigated the loud noise and the thing that’s been ransacking our garbage. I don’t think I’d be able to face that big and scary coyote by myself.”
He snorted and you were sure he was smiling.
“And the other week, you jumped in front of me when that golden retriever started sniffing me too much.”
“Angel…”
“Or that time when—”
“I get it, I get it.”
“The point is,” you said as you looked up at him, resting your chin against his chest. “Your instinct is to protect and that’s what you’ve been doing with me and Sprite. You’re protecting us. And you’ve protected her from more harm when you brought her to the hospital.”
“It was your idea.”
“I don’t want to take all the credit,” you teased.
Both sides of his lips lifted a little.
“But you get my point, right? You’ve always been this protector—this savior—and just because you didn’t see the danger the first time doesn’t make you a failure at it. It’s what you are deep inside.”
“Y/N.” he said with a sigh, not fully convinced at your words.
“Now shut it and relax. I remember seeing a vending machine a few hallways back. Get yourself a Snickers bar. You’re not you when you’re hungry.”
He chuckled at that and lightly kissed your forehead. “No. I think I’ll stay here and wait.”
“You sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure.”
You remained in his arms for a while, just reveling the feel of them around you. You refused to give in to your worry, knowing full well it won’t do anything to the problem. And besides, you had said it yourself, Sprite was in capable hands. The doctors would make sure she would be fine by the end of the operation. You trusted them fully because they knew what they were doing.
You rested your cheek against your boyfriend’s chest, waiting quietly for the doctor to emerge from the O.R. to tell you how Sprite was doing. Ikaris seemed to have calmed down; his fingers now traced the outline of where your wings were once connected to you, engrossed in the mindless activity. It was better this way, after all. You didn’t want him panicking and doubting himself, especially when the memory of the Emergence was still fresh in everyone’s mind.
A nurse came out from the double doors and to you, taking off her mask as she approached. “Mr. and Mrs. Harris? Sprite’s operation is a success. We’ll be wheeling her to the PACU to monitor her recovery and once she’s awake, we’ll be bringing her to her room.”
“Thank you,” Ikaris replied stiffly but you saw how his throat worked and you knew he was holding back tears.
You pulled from your boyfriend and smiled gratefully at the woman. You did not correct her when she called you Ikaris’s wife, knowing it was unimportant compared to the good news she just shared. You took her hands in yours and thanked her profusely. “Thank you so much. Thank you for everything you and your team did.”
“You’re very welcome, Mrs. Harris.” She smiled at the both of you before returning to the O.R.
You sagged against Ikaris, finally allowing the tears that you were holding in to come out and come flowing down your face. You’ve never known such fear in your whole seven-thousand-year existence, never thought you would be this shaken just because someone in your family was close to dying. Never again, you told yourself. If Sprite would ever think of you as a helicopter mom as soon as she leaves the hospital, so be it. You vowed to keep her safe and you would do so, whatever it took.
.
Ikaris brought down the newspaper he was reading when he heard movement coming from Sprite’s general direction. It had been hours since they wheeled her in; the nurses assured him and you that Sprite had woken up since her operation and that she had some… choice words about it. He only told them that she was a somniloquist like her mother and to not mind what was said.
He stayed behind while you went and talked to the nurses about Sprite’s dietary restrictions post-operation, as well as a handful of other things that you had researched when you recovered from your small breakdown. Ikaris could only watch in awe at how you managed to do everything like it was second nature to you, even going as far as researching for a new bed so she would be comfortable in her bedrest at home. He stopped you there, knowing what you were doing was an overreaction but he knew he would have done the same.
“Whoever said sleeping was the same thing as resting was one real asshole,” Sprite said with a groan.
His mouth quirked to one side, amused and relieved that she was fine and certainly back to normal. “It wasn’t a restful sleep?” he asked, setting the paper aside.
“Not one bit.” She turned to him, squinting her eyes at the bright light that shone on her. He stood and turned down the lights. “I think they took all my intestines and scrambled the rest of my insides.”
“Not all,” he told her and she gave him a flat look. He smiled slightly. “Just the small useless part of it that’s been causing you pain.”
“Glad that’s over. Now I’m in a different kind of pain.”
“Is it as painful as before?”
“No but it still hurts like a bitch.” She looked around, clearly searching for something. “Where’s Y/N?”
Ikaris saw the change in demeanor in her. Gone was the impish Sprite and in its place was a kind of fear that he knew well. He saw the apprehension in her eyes, at the uncertainty of wanting to know the answer to her question. Sprite had abandonment issues that he and you actively worked on. You both showered her with enough attention when she called for it and left her on her own when she wanted it but you both never ever abandoned her. And with you gone when she awoke, Ikaris knew Sprite feared for the worst.
“She’s just talking to the doctor about the antibiotics you would need when they’ll discharge you.” He watched her closely. “You know she won’t leave us.”
She snorted, even though he knew she was relieved with his reply. “I’m not worried she’ll do that—”
“You don’t have to lie to me, Sprite.” he said. “I know she didn’t show it to you but she was afraid. She was trying not to show everyone she was panicking but I felt it. If you think she’d still leave, you’re mistaken. No one would be this worried then just leave when they want to, especially not Angel.”
She sighed. “I just thought she’d run at the first sign of trouble. That’s what Kingo did when he left me in Macedonia.”
“She’s not Kingo.” he said flatly.
“Clearly,” she said sarcastically. “But you know what I mean.”
Unfortunately, he did. He sat on the chair beside her bed, looking down his hands, not knowing how to put it carefully. Mincing words was never his forte, it was yours… sometimes.
“Sprite, I promise you, Y/N and I are never going to abandon you. We didn’t let you deal with this on your own. We three did it together and we plan on keeping it that way. We’re a family and families stick together.”
“Yeah, the last thousand years are a testament to that,” she grumbled sardonically but he knew he made his point across.
“It was our mistake to break apart but we’re making amends for it now.” He sighed. “I know I may not be the most stellar of father figures out there but I am trying, for Angel, for you. Y/N made me promise we all will stay together and we will. I’ll make sure of it.”
She sighed. “You’re right about you being a pretty shit father figure. You definitely need to work on that. Though I have to admit, Y/N makes a good mom.”
He smiled, nodding, agreeing, ignoring her jibe at him. “I know.”
Just then, you entered holding a small paper bag with the pharmacy’s name emblazoned on the front. When your eyes clapped on Sprite, you beamed widely and rushed to her.
“You’re awake! Do you want anything to eat? The doctors said you can eat whatever you want, just in moderation. I also have your meds here. They gave you a lot to ward off infection and some stuff for the pain—are you in pain right now? I’m sure I have something here for you…”
Amidst all of your ramblings and Sprite’s overwhelmed reaction at it, he locked eyes with his former-fellow-Eternal-now-turned-foster-kid and smiled. She did as well, knowing there was only one thing going on in their minds.
You, him, and Sprite were a family.

I can't, for the life of me, write short one-shots.
That being said, Ikaris and Angel are going to make an appearance soon! Our special guest for this short (or long) is Sprite. Stay tuned!

Things I want to write:
An Ikaris x Reader high school au, trope is forced proximity/enemies-to-lovers, where Ikaris is the star player (called the Winged Boy of Olympia High for having the highest leap/jump in all its history) and Reader is the student body president
A very angsty modern au for Robb Stark x Frey!Reader (inspired by Paloma Faith's Only Love Can Hurt Like This)
A thriller-ish David Budd x nanny!reader which pretty much is something like the show
A quirky romcom for Leo West x OC. This, I'm so excited for because I think it's light and fun and the OC I'm planning is a Filipina (shout out sa mga kababayan ko!) Plus the premise I have in mind is 😗👌🏻
A rewrite of Savior with an OC this time. Still a guardian angel but with more... history.
Things I am supposed to do but haven't gotten to doing:
Last chapter and epilogue for The Accidental Princess
Tumblr media
I have so much planned and so little energy and brain capacity. I'm just putting this out there in hopes of actually doing something.
But I promise. I will finish The Accidental Princess. We're so near the end; it's cruel of me to just leave everyone hanging with no closure.

Dear Diary
A Savior one-shot
Ikaris x fem!guardian angel!reader
Summary: Ikaris has felt a him for millennia and he's never questioned it, until he found the source.
One-shot Summary: While you expected some of your past to come back and haunt you, you just didn't realize that it was not only a one-time thing.
Word Count: 2.2k words
Warnings: I don't know how these occupations work so I'm so sorry if I make mistakes of archaeologists and anthropologists and historians, attempt at trying to read cuneiform and construct sentences in Sumerian style, the word 'ass', angel being a pest, written really quickly so it might not even make sense, fLUFF!
A/N: Hey, everyone! I miss writing about Ikaris and Angel so here you guys go! This was a concept I talked about with @mentallyscreamingsincebirth and it was too good to ignore so, on a whim, I just wrote it. It ends abruptly and awkwardly so I'm really sorry about that. As uzhe, not betad. Reviews, comments, suggestions, requests (and reblogs) are super welcome! Enjoy Dear Diary!
Catch Ikaris and Angel's origin story here! (SAVIOR)

Tumblr media
There were advantages to being alive for over seven-thousand years. You got to live throughout civilizations, saw them rise and fall. Saw the dawn of the invention of a lot of things—thank you, Phastos—and be one of the first to see it all happen. Live out the history and have every right to call out people who say the wrong things about them. And because you had lived such a long life, you had your pick of whichever occupation you want—other than being Ikaris’s guardian angel, of course.
Sersi worked as a history professor. Makkari considered the museum curator job since she liked collecting things. Phastos worked in an engineering laboratory. Ikaris, an archaeologist, and you became an anthropologist.
You were fine with your job. You liked it, actually. You loved history and people and people all throughout history (except for the nasty ones, of course). Plus, your extensive life gave you an edge over your colleagues since most of the events you were studying had happened to you personally. Case in point: The Weeping Goddess. You were The Weeping Goddess (before your wings got sliced off during the Emergence) and all the records of that account, you had taken and personally annotated. Of course, you added a few pizzazz to jazz things up but you stayed true to what had happened.
And while you expected some of your past to come back and haunt you in your line of work, you just didn’t know that that was not the only time it would happen.
Because when Sersi sent a photo on your family group chat, you did not expect it would be one of your pieces of history. Or at least, something that was made by you.
Your phone pinged and you reached over Ikaris’s bare chest, to his side table, to grab your phone. Your husband was still sound asleep and you placed a gentle kiss on his chest as you took your mobile device.
“Angel, what are you doing?” he asked, voice still raspy from sleep. He tightened his arms around you.
“Just grabbing my phone, my love.” You brought your phone to you and checked the notification.
“It’s too early for you to be on your phone,” he complained, turning on his side and taking you with him.
You chuckled as you let yourself go along with him. “Sersi sent a photo on the family chat. I just want to see if it’s a baby announcement.”
He nuzzled your neck, breathing against your skin. You shivered. “Us Eternals can’t have babies, Y/N.”
“I know but doesn’t hurt to hope, right?” You kissed his head and opened the notification. “And besides, it could be their wedding invite.”
But it wasn’t. What it was was a photo of a stone slab with etchings from a dead language. Dead to the world, anyway. But to you, a seven-thousand-year-old guardian angel, it was as recent as yesterday.
Beneath the photo was your tagged name and the message: Is this you?
You enlarged the photo and read the stone slab after finding the right orientation, gasping when you decoded the message. Then, you laughed. You made a mental note to tell Sersi to turn it 180 degrees so it would be readable.
“Angel,” Ikaris said again. He planted his chin on your shoulder to have a look at you. He rubbed his nose against yours. “What’s so funny?”
You looked at your bed partner and kissed his nose. “You are.”
“Me?”
You nodded, grinning.
“What’s so funny about me?”
You closed your phone and returned it to your nightstand. You wrapped your arms around Ikaris once more and sighed contentedly.
“I love you,” you murmured.
“Hmm.” He laid his lips against yours, kissing you, as he pulled your naked body closer to his bare form.
But you still couldn’t shake off the image and you giggled when you felt him pressing against you. Your husband took offense in this and he pulled back, watching you with a frown.
“You weren’t laughing last night when we did more than just kiss,” he complained.
“I’m sorry. I promise it’s not you.” You said then retracted your statement. “Well, it is you but not you now.”
He raised a brow and even when you had spent the whole of your life looking at—at, after. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to—him, he could still take your breath away.
“Y/N, I love you, I really do, but even you should know it’s too early for your sense of humor.”
You faked offense at that. “Excuse me, you told me you loved my humor. You said as much on our wedding.”
He only gave you a flat look. You chuckled and pecked him on the lips.
“Fine. Go have a look at your phone if you want to know what made me laugh.” You said, pulling from him.
He did as he was told, taking his phone to open the family chat. You snuggled closer to him, wrapped an arm around his waist and rested your cheek against his arm as you read the message with him.
“Is this… Sumerian?” he asked after he turned his phone this way and that until he found the perfect angle for the slab.
“Technically, the writing style is cuneiform but the language is Sumerian.” You told him, pointing at the etchings.
“Okay. I don’t see what’s funny here.” He said.
You rolled your eyes even though he couldn’t see it. “I thought you knew how to read texts. How far back does your vocabulary go?”
“Far enough.”
“Greek?”
“Yes.”
You snorted. “And you call yourself a verified archaeologist, Dr. Ike Harris.” You teased, using his human name that wasn’t far off his real one.
He chuckled at you. “It’s a front. And I only did it in case someone excavated something Phastos made that would be too modern for that time.”
You kissed his arm. “Of course you did and I love you for that, but your vocabulary needs work. I need to teach you Sumerian.”
You plucked the phone from his hands and sat up. You heard him groan.
“What? Now?” he grumbled.
“Yes, now.”
“It’s still too early, Y/N.”
You pouted prettily at him and gave him a look you knew he wouldn’t resist. “Do you want to laugh with me or not?”
“You said the writing is about me. Why would I laugh at myself?”
It was your turn to grumble. “Fine. It’s on you when we go to Sersi’s and we share an inside joke about you.” You turned back from him and plopped down in bed.
His arms snaked on your waist and pulled you flush against his chest. “Am I going to regret decoding the slab?”
“Yes.”
He sighed. You felt his lips against the patch of skin that once connected you to your wings.
“But at least you’ll learn a new language. You can add it to your resume. I know there are some people who would die just to learn a dead language.” You said with a grin, holding the hands on your waist.
“There’s that sense of humor again,” he chuckled. “Okay. Let’s go learn Sumerian.”
You spent the better part of the morning in your home library, pulling out all of the books you wrote about the Sumerians and the Akkadians and anything about Mesopotamia. Ikaris was a still grumbly while he studied but the chocolate chip pancakes you made for him lifted his mood. You never realized how difficult a student your husband was until you started to teach him about cuneiforms. He was impatient and he complained a lot, especially when he couldn’t immediately read and write perfectly.
Always a perfectionist, this stubborn Eternal. It was a thing of wonder you still loved him, even if he was a pain in your ass.
Your phone pinged again after a few hours. It was well into the day now. You and Ikaris had no jobs scheduled for that day so it was just perfectly okay to waste it learning a dead language.
You pressed on the notification, seeing that Sprite had chatted in the family group chat.
Sprite: HAHAHAHAHA
Sprite: Please tell me he’s read this
Sprite: @Y/N Send a video of his reaction!
You chuckled, replying in the affirmative. You weren’t selfish. Ikaris was more open around you and you shared that teensy-tiny side of him to everyone. Much to his chagrin, of course.
“Are you ready?” you asked, watching him.
He was still hunched on a paper where you had written in cuneiform. “No.”
“You don’t have to be perfect at it.” You took the pencil from his hand. “Because if you are, you wouldn’t take me to your excavations anymore.”
You said out loud the simple sentence you wrote. “Ikaris is my husband,” you said as you pointed at the symbols on the paper. You put emphasis on his name and wrote a new sentence for him to decode.
“Ikaris… is… an ass…?” He read slowly then looked at you sharply with a mockingly offended frown.
You laughed. You bent down and kissed him. “Am I wrong, though?”
He only smiled. You taught him more words, especially ones that were on the stone slab. When he looked like he could read through it without difficulty, you drew up the photo on his phone. On yours, you put it on video to capture the look on his face.
“What’s the video for, Angel?” he asked.
“Oh, you know,” you said with a dismissive wave of your hand. “Records. As an archaeologist, you should know how important it is to do record-keeping. At least, that’s what we anthropologists do.”
He rolled his eyes at you. “Yes, Dr. Y/N Harris, anthropologist extraordinaire.”
You grinned at the mention of your name. “Now, go. Read through it. It’s just about two sentences.”
“Two really long sentences,” he grumbled again. “Today… I saw Ikaris… fly… into a… tree… because he was… looking… and—No, that’s an at… at… Sersi.” He frowned at the sentence and reread it, with more conviction this time. “Today, I saw Ikaris fly into a tree because he was looking at Sersi—Angel—”
All the while he was reading, you were laughing behind the camera. Ikaris read it so seriously the first time that you doubted he even realized what he had just said out loud.
“I did not—”
“Read the next,” you said between guffaws.
He huffed and resumed position, squinting at his phone as he read slowly and out loud again. “It… was funny… to see… What’s this? Is this supposed to be ‘big man?’… Big man… Poke Ikaris… with a… stick… to get… him… down—What?”
You laughed louder at his embarrassed expression. Your belly started to ache at how much you cackled.
“Read it straight, my love,” you urged.
“No.”
“Please?”
“Y/N.”
“If you’re not going to read it, I’m just going to say it out loud.”
He made a face and turned to his phone again. He cleared his throat. “Let me just explain—”
“No. Read it.” You grinned.
Ikaris sighed and nodded. “It was funny to see ‘big man’ poke Ikaris with a stick to get him down—Okay, in my defense—”
“My love, everyone else who’s seen you get stuck in a tree has been dead for over seven thousand years. You don’t need to explain yourself.” You said once you got your composure back, then broke down again. “You got stuck on a tree!”
“Angel—”
You laughed harder at the exasperated look on his face. God, how you loved being the pain in his ass now.
“Did you write this?” he asked once you stopped laughing.
You had just sent the video and the chat had been blowing up with comments and reactions of it.
“Yes,” you said with a sly grin. “My handwriting is still the same. See?” You pointed at his name on both the paper and the photo.
“How many people know?” he asked as he looked.
You turned to your phone, at the notifications that were piling up by the second. “Sprite does. So do Kingo and Druig and Gil—everyone, I think.”
He groaned.
“Don’t worry. No one reads Sumerian anymore. It’s just us.” You assured him with an impish smile. And anthropologists and archaeologist and possibly historians, you refused to add.
“Us and the people who have the same job as us,” he said as he pulled you closer. “What’s that one word I can’t read? Big man? Giant man?”
You howled in laughter again, remembering that day vividly. “It was Gilgamesh. He had to poke you with a stick to dislodge you from the branches!”
“He did not—”
You kissed him deeply. When you pulled back, you grinned widely at the adoring expression he had on his face. It was the same expression he wore when he flew into a tree because he was watching Sersi. And now, he had the same look on his face while looking at you and it had been Sersi who sent you a slab of that time.
Not entirely a full-circle moment but it was as close as having one for you.
“Ikaris, my love, I’m your guardian angel. Deny it all you want; I still know what I saw. Proof is in the pudding, or at least, in my six-thousand-year-old diary entry. Let's just hope no one else digs up the rest of that slab.”
He just groaned.

Guardian angel. Ikaris, the strongest and best of the Eternals, had a guardian angel. The idea was laughable. And it was you? You, who needed his help to defeat one Deviant. You, with your human-like features and inconsequential powers. You, who were so beneath him in every way. A guardian angel.
He let out a small smile, more to himself. He was a soldier. He saved people. He did not need saving from anyone or anything.
“What do they call you?” he asked as he turned to you.
You only raised your eyebrow at him and crossed your arms. Truly, a human reaction. He had seen Sprite do it to him once and he had known Sprite had mingled with humans. You clearly had.
“Wow. We’re jumping to that. No ‘thank you for saving my life?’” you asked him sarcastically.
He raised his brow at well. This was absurd. He had told himself there would not be any more interaction between the two of you and here he was, asking for your name.
“They call me Y/N,” you said, your tone still mocking him. “I thought you’d be thankful I saved your ass.”
Your mouth was crude too. Pathetic, whiny being.
“You were struggling to keep that Deviant at bay. I think I am owed a thank you, not you.” He dusted his coat, shrugging off the debris from the broken shop window.
“I still saved you. I guardian angel-ed you, Ikaris.”
“How do you know my name?” It did not escape him that you were comfortable in using his name even if he had never said it once to you.
“Like I said, guardian angel.” You gestured to yourself. “Look, we can’t stay here anymore. They’ve seen us. They’re going to talk about what happened and they’re going to hound us. Where are you off to?”
He raised a brow. “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”
You took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of your nose. “Okay. We got off the wrong foot. I promise I’ll explain everything to you but we have to leave right now.”
He gave you a once over. No concealed weapons, except for the thrumming that was your powers. What were the extent of it? What were you, other than a guardian angel? He had been there at the birth of religion and had known each of the depictions of angels but you were nothing like it.
“Ikaris.” There was impatience in your tone. “Where are you going next?”
He relented. He knew you would keep asking if he did not answer, despite knowing you for only a few minutes. “London.”
“Okay. I’m coming with you.”
He raised a brow. “No. I don’t need you.”
“Didn’t I just say I was your guardian angel? I’m coming.” You shook out your hands. “Let’s go.” You shot to the sky before he could ask how you would be getting there.
He merely raised his eyebrow before he followed you to the skies.
You wanted to like Ikaris. You really did. But he was so reserved and also uncouth and frankly, he was getting on your nerves. If only you weren’t his guardian angel, then you would have let those Deviants devour him like you did with your dinner before the rumbling happened. Your sense of responsibility pulled you from your seat and out of the bar, only to catch him with his back to another Deviant. You had rushed towards him, summoning the first of the many things you could conjure with your brilliant light, and protected him from the creature. And he had the gall to ask you to thank him! That-That—Eternal!
The Deviants had been ugly, nasty beings when you had first seen them but the one you had warded off, they looked different. They looked evolved. The Eternals had left humankind to evolve on their own after they had eradicated the last of the Deviants. You were sure of it. You had tailed Ikaris when he killed the only remaining Deviant and had stayed to make sure that it was indeed dead. Whatever it was that you had shielded Ikaris against, it was no ordinary Deviant. He probably saw it too.
You watched the horizon, looking at the divide of colors. It had been a while since you flew. It had been a some time since you’ve been anywhere else other than South Dakota and, admittedly, the change of scenery was welcoming. It was like a new day was dawning.
A new day with the same old job, you pondered.
He was right. He didn’t need you. He was perfectly capable of defending himself from whatever kind of Deviants those were.
You’re crazy, Y/N. You wouldn’t exist without Ikaris. Your life’s purpose is to literally save him, the voice in you said. To save him from what is exactly what you needed to find out.
You saw Ikaris swoop to one of the mountains and land by a tree. You followed after him, softening your landing by bending your knees. You tried landing with straight legs once and you injured your knees. You never did it again.
“Answer my questions,” he ordered.
You looked up at him and raised your brow. “Let’s lay some ground rules, okay? Just because you’re my protectee doesn’t mean you get to boss me around. I’m literally putting my ass on the line for your suicidal Eternal ass.”
“I didn’t ask for you to do that.”
“Neither did I but here we are.” You crossed your arms. “Don’t boss me around, Ikaris. Just because you’re the strongest Eternal doesn’t mean you have to impose that title on me.”
He only looked at you. If he weren’t assigned to you, you would have blasted him with your light to kingdom come, wherever that may be. He was irritating.
“Now what do you want to know.” You said flatly.
“You said you’re a guardian angel.”
“Yes.”
“Care to elaborate?”
“I,” you gestured broadly to yourself. “Am an angel sent to guard you.”
“I had been here since the dawn of civilization and the beginning of religion. Which denomination do you fall under?”
“None of those. I don’t have a god. I don’t have an origin. I just am.”
He scoffed.
“Excuse me?” You asked, affronted. “Did you just scoff at me?” This man! Life was much simpler when you had been watching him from afar.
“How are you an angel then? Because of whatever holy light it is you have emanating from your hands? Where did that come from?”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down, cowboy. One question at a time.” You brought up a finger. “One, I am an angel because that is what I am. Like how you’re an Eternal. Or how the Deviants are Deviants.”
“Angels have wings,” he said matter-of-factly.
“Who said I didn’t have wings?” You let your hands out with a flourish.
Ikaris only looked at you like you lost your mind.
You huffed. “I flew here, didn’t I? No one gets to see my wings unless they’re finally worthy of it and if I let them. Apparently, by some hallowed law or whatever, you’re part of the people who are not worthy of seeing it yet as I have my wings out currently.”
He was unimpressed. You stomped towards him, holding out a hand. He stepped back from you. Am I going to do everything around here? You thought to yourself exasperatedly.
“Why can I feel you?” he asked instead.
“I have no explanation for that but if we see the other Eternals, you can ask if they can feel me. Now give me your hand so you can sense my wings.”
When he made no move, you grabbed his wrist. The sudden surge of your power made you drop his hand and you flinched away.
“Shit!” You exclaimed.
“Why is your mouth so vulgar?”
“Why do you have so many questions?” You rubbed your palms together, diffusing the sting. “We’re straying from the topic. Now, give me your hand but be careful. I don’t enjoy getting power-shocked by my own light.”
You held out a hand to him again. He gave you his hand and you guided it just beyond your shoulder, to the part where your wings just started to curve out.
“Be careful. Please,” you begged, feeling vulnerable.
You let him explore your wing, feeling his touch glide across the bone and feather. You knew what your wings looked like: white as the clouds and spanning nearly three meters across. Soft downy feathers at the top and long flight feathers at the bottom. Your wings were majestic and beautiful, preternatural even. It was a pity only a select few had seen and could see them.
Ikaris touched the apex of your right wing and you shuddered. Your wings were like sensitive limbs. He suddenly grabbed on to it and your knees buckled, pain blinding you temporarily.
“D-don’t!” You gasped. Your back flexed automatically and you unfurled your wings wider. There was a soft whoosh as you did so and the wind swirled the dirt and swayed the branches of the trees.
“Question number two,” you said, holding up two fingers as you were still hunched in pain. “My power comes from my wings. I guess that’s one reason why not everyone sees it because if they do, they’ll chop it off.”
“And you lose your power?”
“Yes, and my life.” You gasped as stood straight again, tucking your wings close and turning to face Ikaris. “I’m only telling you this because I know you want something to use against me, with you being a soldier and all that.”
He raised a brow. “Can other people touch your wings like I had?”
“Only if I let them. I tuck them in so they don’t get noticed.” You pulled your coat closer to you. “It’s like a human’s beating heart. If they put it out on display, others will be enticed to touch and play with it. The same thing goes for my wings for the people who can see them.” You unfurled your right wing and softly tapped Ikaris’s cheek with the tip of the feather. You grinned.
He moved his head to the side and glared at you. You tucked your wing again.
“Now touch my back.”
He raised a brow. You snorted.
“Stop being modest. You’re not a 7 millennia virgin. I saw you have sex with Sersi.”
“Y/N—”
“Touch my back.”
He sighed and did as he was told, caressing one side to another. “I don’t feel anything.” he said.
“That’s because my wings are tucked in, genius. That's how I keep them out of sight.” You turned your head to face him. “You can stop touching my back. Don’t start developing a wing fetish now. It’s weird.” You grinned as you looked at him fully now.
The exasperated look on his face was comical. You enjoyed making fun of him. This was better than him walking all over you.
“Now, question number three. Holy light or whatever it is you called it. I just call it my brilliant light, or light if I’m feeling lazy.” You held out your hands, palm side up. You summoned the light to your palms and in a matter of seconds, it glowed brilliantly. It had no form to it, just pure blinding light.
“What is it?” he asked as he looked over.
“Whatever you want it to be, if I’m being honest. My favorite is the force field I used today. Handy whenever I forget to bring an umbrella.” You stretched out your fingers, emanating more of your light. “But it’s more of a blinding light than anything.”
“And that’s all there is?”
You shrugged. “It’s worked for me for seven thousand years.” You jammed your hands in your pockets and looked at him. “Now, any more questions?”
“Why do I need a guardian angel?”
“Beats me. I was just told that I need to save the savior and that was it.”
“Who told you that?”
You looked up to the heavens, at the smattering of the stars across the night sky. Dusk was your favorite time because it brought out the brilliance of the stars. The constancy of the stars was something you held on to in all your life. That, and your duty to Ikaris.
“The world. Or the night. The sky? I don’t know how to call it but I just heard it when I came to be. It just told me to save the savior.” You looked at him. “I figured that’s you since every other Eternals were sane enough to keep safe.”
He raised an eyebrow. You gave him a cheeky grin. You turned to the sky again, seeing a falling star.
“I’ve watched all of you, Ikaris, but I stayed for you because I’m tied to you somehow. You’re the savior that needed saving. I’m the guardian angel. Think of it as a mutual agreement.”
“I did not agree to this.”
“So did I. Glad we agree to disagree, then.” You grinned.
You watched the handsome Eternal quietly, looking for any sign at all that would tell you what he was thinking. You knew it was a lot information to take it; it had been the same with you when you woke. Your whole life you had no choice but to follow that voice that called to you to keep Ikaris safe. If only he understood that you didn’t really have much of a choice on the matter, it would have made things easier. Instead, he only looked at you before he turned away and took the skies. You sighed and unfurled your wings once more, following closely behind him. Wherever he went, you followed. Like you always did.
Y/N was an actual angel. Ikaris was surprised. He may have not seen your wings but he felt them, each of the feather that made it up. By feel alone, he made a mental picture of it and it was reminiscent of the illustrations that depicted these celestial beings the humans worshipped. Mighty and glorious and bathed in holy light, you could have easily been the angel they idolized. And if you were one, that would mean you were like Sersi. You empathized with people. Cared for them.
Not that it came as a surprise. There was a calming aura about you that affected even him, if he weren’t distracted by the incessant hum of your power. You radiated serenity everywhere you went simply because it was part of you as an angel.
A guardian angel. His.
It was bizarre. He did not like to be burdened with someone, except for his partner Sersi but even that he had somehow ruined by leaving. He did not need another being to look after. He already had the humans to protect. And did he need protecting? He certainly did not. He had survived all of these centuries by himself using his own powers. He did not need someone’s brilliant light to ward off whatever it was that posed a threat to him nor did he have any need to have a guardian angel.
He landed away from the busy street and made his way to Sersi. He had been keeping watch of her for centuries, following her every move. Sprite had recently moved to be with her, perhaps to repair the bond that had been broken when his family had gone their separate ways. The last he saw of Sersi, she had been seeing a human named Dane.
“Hello, ladies,” he said as he approached Sersi and Sprite. Ikaris knew you had followed him when he flew. There was no way to shake you off. You and he were a pair, however odd it was.
Both women turned to him. Sprite smiled happily at him before she turned to his companion and frowned.
“Who’s that?” Sprite asked, assessing you wearily.
“I’m Y/N,” you said gleefully as you pushed your way from him and held out your hand to Sprite. “I’m Ikaris’s g—”
“We need to get to Ajak.” He interjected, pushing you behind him again. “The Deviants are back and they’ve evolved.”
