Literally the only thing that separates you and Boo is the fact that he probably gets a little jealous (and a bit worried) when you’re extra outgoing. Seungkwan just wants all of your attention and he is very insecure so if he feels like you’re putting a little extra effort in with someone he will be swooping in all passive aggressive and trying to get all your attention back. Other than that you two would be the cutest. He would do all of the things he hates, if it meant he could see you smile and he loves holding your hand and cuddling up watching stuff on youtube, yes even makeup tutorials... those especially haha. He loves talking to you and making tons of inside jokes. He is also the best to bring around your friends because he is so easy to get along with and anyone could see his genuine love for you.

(lmao shipping you with my bias hours ooo boy) this fucking crackhead is a mess. he is like one of those goofy frat boys who has genuinely nice intentions and wants to treat you right, but also runs rampant with his frat bros and does stupid shit that makes you genuinely confused as to why you got with him. He is loud and funny and loves that you are loud and funny. He takes you on all of his little adventures, whether that be cafe trips where he interrupts events for kpop groups he doesn’t know, or to amusement parks where he dies on every roller coaster, but continues to get on them. His friends would easily become your friends and really you two would just be this forever ecstatic and adventurous couple who makes everyone jealous.

Once upon a time, you were Mia Thermopolis.

Not actually her, but your life did take a very strange turn like hers had. Except you were in college, not high school. And all the popular kids weren’t vying for your attention and selling you out to the media because... you were in college. There were no popular kids.

You had come home for winter break during your Junior year, and your mother had sprung some... news on you. Apparently, that great-grandfather nobody had ever been able to find had been somebody pretty important.

Thanks to modern-day technology (i.e. DNA testing), one of your dad’s cousins discovered this mystery ancestor had actually been a literal King of a very, very microscopic country.

And now, I guess, that very, very microscopic country was about to be without a ruler.

It was actually a pretty confusing situation, but here’s the bottom line: you were next in line for the throne.

See what I mean? Your life had turned into The Princess Diaries. A very delightful movie, yes, but you’d never in a million years had ever expected it could actually happen.

To you.

After speaking with the country’s Parliament, you were allowed to finish up the rest of your degree before packing your bags and moving half-way across the world to your new home.

Which was literally a castle.

Like... a real-life, legitimate, full-blown castle.

It was wild, y’all.

It had already been about a year since you’d moved in, however, and you found you’d gotten used to your new life pretty quickly.

But don’t take that to mean you’d fallen into the role of a Perfect Princess by becoming this demure, graceful, elegant, barely-says-anything, curtsying-all-the-time, timid, meek girl.

No, no, no, no.

You were still the headstrong, independent, take-no-shit-but-do-no-harm, don’t-believe-in-true-love-or-relationships-because-I-can-take-care-of-myself female you’d always been, and kind of surprisingly... the people of the country seemed to accept that about you.

Honestly, the thing about your new life you’d had to get used to the most was having a staff. In particular, you had three lovely ladies who were by your side day in and day out, hired to help you with whatever you needed.

Floriana, the beautiful and fashionable Italian, was your wardrobe specialist. She made you look not just good, but damn good.

Fawn, the straightforward and organized Brit, kept your schedule on track and informed you of all of your activities and meetings up to a week in advance.

And then there was Mei Lan, the artistic and sassy hair and makeup artist from China.

You had specifically asked for a diverse staff, especially if they were your close, personal staff, so you wouldn’t get too sheltered or close-minded as you ruled on the throne. You wanted your new home to be at the forefront of tolerance and inclusiveness; you wanted to be ahead of the times, not just to keep up with them.

But, anyway. Back to the actual plot.

You were currently sitting at your vanity, holding your breath as Mei Lan painted on your eyeliner for the day. Floriana was steaming the blouse she’d picked out for you to wear to the parliament meeting, and Fawn was reading out all the details of today.

Just as Mei Lan whispered ‘You can open your eyes now, Your Highness,’ a butler entered your room with a thin letter in his hand. He handed it to Fawn who thanked him in that business-like tone of hers.

She quickly opened it, her brow furrowing slightly as her eyes flitted across the page.

“What does it say?” you asked curiously as Mei Lan began to sweep some peach-colored blush over your cheeks.

“Hmm... It seems your schedule is to be completely rearranged for the day,” she muttered. “I don’t like this at all.”

“What?!” you cried. “What do you mean ‘rearranged for the day’?! What am I doing instead of a parliament meeting?!”

Fawn’s lips pursed as if she’d just tasted a very sour lemon. “Apparently,” she began, clearly emphasizing the fact she was very annoyed. “Some monarchs from a nearby kingdom are coming to visit.”

“Today?!” you panicked. “Since when?!”

“I guess they sent word last month, but... Good lord, the postal service in this country is abysmal. Please, Your Highness, make sure the first thing on your agenda when you take the throne is to give money to the postal service.”

“Will do,” you answered distractedly. “How long are they staying?”

“Two weeks.”

“Oh, sh -- shoot.”

Something you actually had changed about yourself was your proclivity to use swear words. You knew, whether you liked it or not, you were now a role model for all of the young girls in this country, so you at least wanted to cut back on your foul language.

“Good catch, Your Highness,” Floriana drawled as she put the blouse back and began to search for a more appropriate dress. “You’re getting better.”

“Thanks,” you murmured. “Okay, so. A royal family is coming to visit. Today. And they’re staying for two weeks. That’s not... that’s not that bad, right? I mean, we can pull this off. It’ll be fine!”

Your eyes darted around the room to your three staff-turned-friends, a very anxious smile on your lips.

“Right?” you asked.

“Oh, of course!” they all replied, nodding and assuring you it would be fine, and you just had to leave everything to the staff. You only needed to worry about being a welcoming and hospitable hostess.

After Mei Lan finished your hair and makeup and Floriana had zipped up your quirky but still appropriate dress, Fawn accompanied you downstairs to the foyer to await this royal family’s imminent arrival.

“Their Majesties, King and Queen Song of Ikondia, along with their son, His Royal Highness, Prince Yunhyeong,” she explained, the passive-aggressively bitter tone finally absent from her voice. “They will be your guests for the next two weeks, and it’s vitally important they leave on good terms.”

You almost stopped walking at her statement, but you were currently walking down the stairs. In heels. If you broke your concentration for even a millisecond, you would certainly break something. Like a bone.

“Why would they not leave on good terms?” you asked, trying not to be offended.

“No reason at all, Your Highness,” Fawn replied. You weren’t looking at her, but you could just tell her lips were pursed.

“I’ll be nice! I won’t try to shove my feminist agenda down their throats, okay?! Those diplomacy lessons are actually really helping,” you retorted, finally reaching the last step. You let out a sigh as you reached the actual floor again, silently celebrating another staircase successfully climbed in high heels.

“If you say so,” Fawn muttered under her breath.

You decided to ignore her as she led you over toward the castle entrance where more of the staff was already waiting to greet your royal guests.

“I believe they have arrived,” the main butler announced just as you took your place in the foyer. He waited for you to nod in approval before moving to open the front door.

You plastered on a smile, your heart speeding up when your guests appeared in the doorway. They grinned and nodded their heads to your butler; you took this as your cue to step forward, wondering if you would ever get used to something like this. Greeting an actual King and Queen.

It was still so surreal.

“Welcome, Your Majesties,” you said as you dipped into a small curtsy. “I’m so honored to have you here.”

“Oh, it is so nice to meet you, Your Highness,” King Song greeted, reaching out to shake your hand. Queen Song followed suit, smiling warmly at you. “And this is our son, Yunhyeong.”

A young man (probably around your age) stepped out from behind them, a sweet smile on his lips, his eyes dreamily sparkling.

“Your Royal Highness,” you greeted, curtsying yet again. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“The pleasure is all mine, of course,” he replied. The way he spoke, while rather princely, was not smug or arrogant in the least. He didn’t sound bored or like he was pretending not to be bored. He sounded genuinely happy and excited to be here.

“Would you like a tour?” you offered, eyebrows slightly raised.

“Oh, we’re much too exhausted from the journey,” Queen Song replied. But she hastily reached out to take Yunhyeong’s elbow and pushed him toward you. “But Yunhyeong would love one, wouldn’t you, sweetie?”

“I absolutely would!” he chuckled. And then he held his elbow out to you. “Shall we?”

You weren’t sure what was going on here, but you knew you couldn’t voice any suspicions about the Queen’s intentions. That would be incredibly unroyal of you.

“We shall,” you replied, slipping your hand into the crook of his elbow.

You already knew Fawn would hurry upstairs and tell Floriana and Mei Lan about this, so you were fully expecting to have to spill all the details later that evening.

There wouldn’t be any details to spill because it was just a tour, but... Your three friends had somewhat of a vivid imagination. Always trying to pair you up with somebody, find you someone to be your future King.

Little did they know (actually, they did know because you told them. Frequently), you weren’t getting married. Ever. There was no future King. Nobody was going to come and sweep you off your feet before dragging you to the altar.

It just wasn’t happening.

august favorites.

OH MY GOODNESS i am realizing at the end of september that i never did post this. well dang it’s better late than never.

it is once again time for another rewind. i am starting my new job as an official registered nurse, so i packed in as many movies and dramas as i could into the start of the month. and i am still watching a few on-air dramas that i am loving.

music.

BTS answer comeback. these boys really came for my heart when they gave us the full versions of my fave vocalists songs. this whole album was incredible and i am so proud of them. i am hoping to make this its own post bc i cannot contain all my feelings in this rewind with regards to BTS answer. our boys were just so freaking extra in this mv, and i loved every second of it.

power up by red velvet. of course we got the red side to red velvet. the first listen it was an ‘oh no no’ but now whenever i hear that ba-ba-na-na it just gets me up and dancing. gotta love everything and anything these girls do!

we go up by nct dream. these boys be sneaking into my nct bias list. i seriously fell in love with this song upon first listen. it is a bop and i am so freaking in love with this song it is on every and any playlist i have. that line distribution though 10 out of 10! they are all such little cuties and i love them with my whole heart. lil precious beans.

just look at mark in his last comeback with nct dream. *tear*

there were so many stellar stills in this mv, like everyone be looking like a model having the time of their lives. example a:

astro. like anything and everything. i have officially decided to stan these 6 precious boys. and i am so happy that i did. all of their songs are great, and i appreciate their fresh vibe.

killing me by ikon. these boys like seriously never chill. they are always coming at us with those hardcore bad boy vibes. seriously such a bop and i love screaming these lyrics, and that breakdown has such a drop and it’s incredible.

bobby once again slayed my existence. just look at this man.

and can hanbin just chill, like ever. he is coming for me and my bias list.

dramas & movies. *spoiler alert*

little forest. i loved this film. it was very relaxed and passive. it was a snapshot into hye won’s life. from the countryside to city, back to her own little forest. it was a lovely dynamic film, it was calming and the OST was on point. it was all about the little joys of life and finding her own harmony and place in this world. i really loved the relationship between her and jae-ha. since the ending was ambiguous which is exactly what i expected from this indie film, i hope that it was her long awaited mother’s return. and that she ended up with a happy ending being with jae-ha. i rate it a 9 out of 10.

this film made me realize how much i missed ryu jun-yeol! the last thing i watched with him was reply 1988 and that was waaaaayyyy too long ago! i also love kim tae-ri as i am currently watching mr. sunshine and she is a fabulous actress. adding her to my favorites list!

a werewolf boy. this one was interesting. a new take on the beauty and the beast fairytale. i appreciated the acting from both my faves song joong-ki and park bo-young. it was great to see the origin of these talented people. i also loved seeing the bad side of one of my faves in the reply series, yoo yeon- seok. if only they could have been happy together. he was only protecting her. i enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. this was a great film, i loved the whole premise of the flashback from the grandmother, so titanic. the waterworks really hit in the end credits as he was making the snowman, which was the book he was to read to her once he learned to talk which he was able to do 6 decades later. i rate this a 9 out of 10 i loved it~ uwu

one of the many moments i bawled my eyes out.

architecture 101. this was a great film, and i can see why it is such a highly recommended kmovie. i enjoy a good flashback second chance romance. there was a lot happening in this one, and lines to follow. i love seung-min’s personality, he was so sweet and kind to her. jung-suk my man, i loved him in my annoying brother and he did not disappoint in this one. the ending was real ambiguous, and i don’t appreciate. it definitely was not one of those make you feel good romantic movies. so they both let go of their first love in the end, and he ran away to the states and she ran away to jeju. great communication in this film, no repressed feelings at all. (i hope everyone can sense the sarcasm in that statement) it was truly a recipe made in drama heaven. i rate this classic a 7 out of 10.

come and hug me. i loved this drama, i had to wait a while for it to come to standard subscription viki but it was worth the wait. of course, there was childhood trauma and seriously scary scenes that i was not expecting from the cute and misleading instagram clips that i saw of the two main leads. but i kept with it and i would give this drama an 8.5 out of 10. the child actors that they got to play the younger versions were absolutely incredible and their skill, talents, and abilities surpass that of the typical child you see in dramas and i was continually blown away by them.

Anon: Not really a scenario or imagine but what do you think the iKON members are like as texters? -Thank you for the request!

Hanbin: Uses perfect grammar and more than enough punctuation but I really don’t see him as understanding the use of emojis so he would probably come across as super blunt but he just doesn’t understand how to not sound passive aggressive

Bobby: You just know he uses like way too many emojis or like he just doesn’t text at all. Like super short replies and uses old text speak for everything even if it doesn’t fit. Deffo overuses the cry laugh emoji not gonna lie

Jinhwan: Like. A. Mum. Capital letters and and amazing grammar but really really bad with emojis. He probably just chucks them in everywhere and anywhere, overuses the wine and cocktail emoji

Yunhyeong: Okay he’s either really bad and doesn’t understand how to do anything or is a whole ass fuckboi texter yanno. I just have this feeling that he texts back super fast and really does love some tasteful emojis

Junhoe: Slow replies, like so so so slow. I reckon he uses memes in every conversation he can. Doesn’t use emojis because ‘they’re not cool’ and he’s a cool guy. Honestly he probably doesn’t text back for days and when he does he just pretends nothings happened at all, would never use capital letters either

Donghyuk: The best at replying out of ikon. But I reckon he’s one of those people who like texts in 5 word messages so he sends a new text every 5 words, especially in groupchats so texting him makes it seem like you’re the most popular person in the whole world because he’s just explaining how his day went in 50 texts

Chanwoo: savage. so fucking wild and good at roasting. also has the best memes in town. don’t trust this boy in groupchats because he lurks until the right moment and then comes out of nowhere with a meme to ruin everything. also probably has no consistency with with how fast he replies because one day it’s in 0.5 seconds and the other it’s like 6 hours

A revolution backed by K-pop rhythms

That large swathes of Myanmar have come together to oppose the military’s rule since it seized power on February 1, is not entirely surprising.

Having experienced decades of military rule roiled by bouts of brutal, often bloody, repression leavened with economic stagnation, people of varied ethnic backgrounds, social stratas, and cultural affiliations around the country have come together to resist, whether actively or passively, the junta’s power grab. If anything has united varied groups across the country in the past few decades, it has been military rule.

One group that has taken up the banner of resistance, perhaps surprising some people, is the local fans of South Korean pop music - universally known as K-pop, short for Korean popular music.

The genre encompasses styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, and classical mixed with traditional South Korean music roots.

One defining aspect of K-pop is the passion of its fans around the world, and those in Myanmar are no different. South Korean music groups such as BTS, EXO, Black Pink, Big Bang, iKon,Treasure,Twice, and Got-7 have huge fandoms locally.

Famous for their fervour - fans of rival K-pop groups have been known to get into feuds - K-pop fans in Myanmar, who are mainly youths, are now a surprisingly influential force opposing the military’s rule.

So fervent are the fans that supporters of South Korean groups BTS and EXO got into fights on January 31, over which band deserved more prominence on a giant digital display at the Times City shopping mall in Yangon.

All that changed drastically, however, just one month later when the military seized power of February 1. K-pop fans across the country set aside their rivalries to oppose military rule.

Their rise is all the more startling when you consider that K-pop fandom in Myanmar had only developed over the last decade or so, long after previous uprisings in the country such as the 8888 Revolution of 1988 or the Saffron Revolution of 2007.

“The military takeover did more than anything else to bring together K-pop fans in Myanmar,” said one local fan of BTS, one of the biggest K-pop acts in the world.

Beyond taking to the streets to join protests that were prominent in the early days of the takeover, the young fans, who were born in the internet age and grew up with social media, have become keyboard warriors.

Taking to their laptops and smartphones, they have been using apps such as Twitter, Telegram, and Facebook, to organise, raise funds, and broadcast what has been happening in Myanmar to the rest of the world.

“If the fan clubs of EXO and Blackpink can donate K10 million (about US$6,000) to those opposing military rule, we BTS fans should be able to do the same. That is a good aim. Fandom wars are immature. If rival fan groups can unify, we might be able to overthrow the dictatorship,” said another fan of BTS.

“Of course K-poppers aren’t the only ones doing what they can to oppose the military, but their efforts have led to publicity about what's going on in Myanmar to spread around the world on Twitter, thanks to the geographical footprint of K-pop fans around the world, said one girl who has been a K-pop fan for the past five years.

While many of them are so young that they do not yet have jobs, this has not stopped them from doing whatever they can to raise funds for the opposition.

They have gone so far as to sell precious symbols of their fandom such as band merchandise.

“T-shirts, albums, even things like water bottles, can be quite expensive and cost as much as K70,000 or K80,000. They have been selling such things from their collections to raise funds since they are not yet employed,” said one fan who is old enough to be part of the workforce.

While many of them are doing whatever they can to back the opposition, a few do not and a vanishingly small number may even support the military.

Their peers have promised that these holdouts will be ostracised and punished.

"They are on our blacklists and won’t be forgotten.When the country is back to normal, there will be a price to be paid. Especially, considering that some among us fans have been killed during the protests,” said one fan.

K-pop fans who had no interest whatsoever in politics before the takeover were incensed when Wai Yan Tun and Kyal Sin, two well-known K-pop fans, were killed by the military.

"I was not interested in politics before the revolution. Honestly, I had no idea about military coups, I am ashamed to say. I was mostly worrying since the miltirary shut down the internet, cutting my access to Youtube.Then I realised how stupid I was. I don't want to get back a life of watching television at 7pm. While I don’t want to be cut off from my idols, I realised there are more important things going on now, so I started taking part in the opposition movement,” said a fan in Mon.

While widely popular with many youngsters, K-pop fandom is still viewed as a sub-culture in Myanmar, especially among the older generation.

“Many of us wear fashionable, strange and colourful clothes. Even boys wear make-up and dye their hair. Some think it is just a fashion phase and not a movement, but the music can be meaningful,” said one girl who has been a fan of K-pop for 10 years.

While many of the older generation might view K-pop as frivolous and its fans as going through a youthful phase, there can be no doubt that their actions since the military came to power has been opening eyes around the country and the world.

"K-pop culture and fans have gained recognition and more acceptance since the civil disobedience movement sprang up. Previously, we were dismissed or ignored. Then people’s opinions of us began to change. The world heard about Myanmar on Twitter, which was widely used here before, thanks to K-pop fans. I am proud of this,” said one female fan from Mandalay.

Whatever the views of K-pop fandom in Myanmar, there can be no doubting the impact it has had.

"We always donate necessary supplies and provide funeral assistance to the families of those who were killed. We support and donate to the opposition organisations such as the National Unity Government and the Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Myanmar’s parliament). K-poppers have been involved since the beginning of the civil disobedience movement. We'll fight till the end," a fan said.
