JUDE SWEETWINE. ☼
“She surfes waves as big as houses and jumps off anything. She has skin that fits and friend and Dad and The Sweetwine Gift and gills and fins in addition to lungs and feet. She gives off light.”

I'll hold you until you're alright. Even if I'm dead and my bones begin to crumble, I'll hold you. And after we're nothing but stardust, our atoms will be so closely intertwined that you'll never have to be alone again.

meeting your soul mate is like walking into a house you've been in before - you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall, the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: you could find your way around in the dark if you had to.

I wish the world would stick like a clock so I could look at him for as long as I want. There’s something going on in his face right now, something very bright trying to get out—a dam keeping back a wall of light. His soul might be a sun. I’ve never met anyone who had the sun for a soul.
—Noah Sweetwine, from I'll Give You the Sun

okay maybe i’m delusional and grasping for content but does the song “J’s lullaby” by Delaney Bailey give off huge Ill Give You The Sun vibes, like google says they aren’t correlated in anyway but there’s too many similarities for me to think it’s a coincidence
“I'd give you the sun if you asked me
You could have all of the time
You could have the stars and the trees
When dividin' up the universe”
YOU CANT TELL ME THAT ISNT A DIRECT REFERENCE TO ILL GIVE YOU THE SUN HUH
maybe i’m just dumb idk

I'll Give You the Sun - Jandy Nelson
★ ★ ★ ★ ★/5
This was a perfect choice for my last book of 2022. This book has long been my favorite and is one of the few books to make me cry every time I read it. Noah and Jude are twins, and they could not be more different. The earlier years (when they're 13-14) are narrated by Noah as he struggles with his sexual orientation, his relationship with his father, and where he stands with Jude as they both apply to CSA, his dream high school. The later years (when they're 16-17) are narrated by Jude, after their mother has died, and Jude is attending CSA while Noah hasn't touched a paint brush or talked to Jude in 2 years. As the story goes on, we see the how they ended up so fractured and apart. This story tackles so, so many important topics; love, grief, substance abuse, depression, sexual assault, and more, all while telling the story of the lives of the twins. Something about it always hits me hard and I feel like this quote can sum up how:
"We were all heading for each other in a collision course, no matter what. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story."
This is a book about growing up and changing and finding yourself when the unimaginable happens to your family. No matter how old I get, I'll always love this book.

We are the Ants and I’ll Give You The Sun are my two favorite books right now. The way they’re written makes me want to either float away in space or splash paint all over my walls
