Why does Zhu Baije wield a rake as a weapon? Is there some sort of symbolism, or did some ancient Chinese guy just think it'd be cool?
That's a good question. My guess is that the storytellers who developed Zhu Bajie thought it would be funny to associate a farm animal with a farming tool.
The rake imagery goes back to the Yuan dynasty, as evidenced by this Cizhou ware ceramic pillow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kind of rake that he carries is similar to the "hand yarrow" (yundang (耘盪), a bamboo-handled rake with metal teeth designed to weed rice crops. It appears in The Book of Agriculture (Nongshu, 農書, 1313), which was written in response to the devastation that the Mongols had wrought on China during the Song and Yuan dynasties. So the featured tools were meant to help make life easier for farmers toiling away in the fields (Bray & Needham, 2004, pp. 59-60).
Tumblr media
What's interesting is that published dynastic sources depict Zhu's rake differently. For instance, the original 1592 edition of JTTW illustrates it as a war rake.
Tumblr media
And Mr. Li Zhuowu’s Literary Criticism of Journey to the West (late-16th-c. or early-17th-c.) depicts it as a toothed club:

By the way, I saw your prior question. I don't know much about the subject. Sorry.

We, the undersigned, come together as creatives and artists, recognising the immense power held within each voice, especially those often underrepresented in our society.
Art and creativity shapes and reflects the diverse experiences of our communities. It’s vital that politics does too, and that everyone’s voice is heard in our democracy.
But in Britain today, as many as 8 million people are not registered to vote at their current address. Turnout of younger voters has been falling considerably.  New rules requiring photo ID risk excluding hundreds of thousands of citizens, and disproportionately affecting poorer people, those with disabilities and people from minority ethnic backgrounds.
We, the undersigned, stand united in our belief that participation in elections is not just a right, but a profound responsibility—one that should extend to everyone, at the heart of a vibrant democracy.
That is why we urge you to join us in registering to vote for the upcoming local elections before the deadline of 23:59 on Tuesday 16 April, at https://qrco.de/giveanx. Remember, you are also eligible to register if you are a qualifying EU or Commonwealth citizen.
We join hands with the young people leading the Give an X campaign in emphasising the importance of young people shaping the future, and we urge each and every citizen to claim their seat at the table.
Voting is not just casting a ballot; it is narrating the stories of our communities and painting a vision of a better tomorrow. In the face of huge challenges nationally and globally, that has never been more important.
Let’s all of us write the next chapter together. We Give an X – will you?

--ABOUT THIS ITEM-- Item Dimensions: 6.0 inches x 4.5 inches Boccaccio's On Famous Women (De claris mulieribus) is a remarkable work that contains the lives of one hundred and six women in myth and history, ranging from Eve to Boccaccio's contemporary, Queen Giovanna I of Naples. It is the first collection of women's biographies ever written. Boccaccio composed it at Certaldo in 1361-62 and revised it in various stages to the end of his life in 1375. He dedicated it to Andrea Acciaiuoli, countess of Altavilla in the kingdom of Naples and sister of Niccolò Acciaiuoli, the grand seneschal of Queen Giovanna I. In his preface, the author states that the biographies of illustrious men had been written often by a number of excellent writers, and he cited his hero Petrarch's Lives of Famous Men (De viris illustribus) as an example. No one, however, had ever done the same for women. Boccaccio, therefore, presents a wide variety of women from antiquity to his own time, offering their lives as both moral exemplar and entertaining reading. On Famous Women is the earliest source of women's biography in the West and has had a long and distinguished publication career and literary influence. The famous women included are: 1. Murder with the Devil and Friends: Chapter 59 - The Devil and Mr. Jones
“But if you do. You go up in the clock tower, round about two in the mornin’ when the moon’s just past full. You’ll see him.”
Words: 4,274 Warnings: Violence, death, addiction
The inside of the clock tower was a strange and unsettling place.
Finally at the top of far too many stairs, Michael took a moment to catch his breath. He was aching all over, especially his shoulders. The light of a full moon spilled in through the white clock face, casting massive shadows onto the wooden floor. It was late, and freezing cold, and Michael was alone. He'd left the Coat at the bottom of the stairs with his chair. He was glad he couldn't feel his legs, because they were sure to be covered in bruises after being dragged up behind him.

Titans Together! Travis Moore has recently made an illustrated history of the Teen Titans (Dark Nights: Death Metal – The Last Stories of the DC Universe). With eight panels over three pages, Moore has succinctly breeze through the fifty-six years of Teen Titans history by showing the major teams that went under that moniker. The Teen Titans first (unofficially) formed when Dick Grayson as Robin, Wally West as Kid Flash, and Garth as Aqualad team up to defeat a weather-controlling villain known as Mister Twister in The Brave and the Bold #54 (1964). They appeared under the name "Teen Titans" in The Brave and the Bold #60 (1965), joined by Donna Troy as Wonder Girl. After being featured in Showcase #59 (1965), the Teen Titans were spun off into their own series in 1966. Over the decades, the series has been launched and re-launched six times – usually with a Robin leading them. The title would not become a genuine hit until its 1980s revival as The New Teen Titans under writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez, which introduced new and lasting characters. Since then, the Teen Titans and Titans titles have been rather regular in the DC Comics roster. Team Roster:
Pre-Teen Titans Titles 1964–1965: Header
Teen Titans (Vol. 1) 1966–1978: Upper Left
The New Teen Titans 1980–1996: Upper Right
Titans (Vol. 3) 2016–2019: Lower Left
Teen Titans (Vol. 6) 2016–Present: Lower Right

Today we remember the passing of Daniel Johnston who Died: September 11, 2019 in Waller, Texas
Daniel Dale Johnston (January 22, 1961 – c. September 11, 2019) was an American singer-songwriter and visual artist regarded as a significant figure in outsider, lo-fi, and alternative music scenes. Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities.
Johnston spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He gathered a local following in the 1980s by passing out tapes of his music while working at a McDonald's in Dobie Center in Austin, Texas. His cult status was propelled when Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was seen wearing a T-shirt that featured artwork from Johnston's 1983 cassette album Hi, How Are You.
Beyond music, Johnston was accomplished as a visual artist, with his illustrations exhibited at various galleries around the world. His struggles with mental illness were the subject of the 2005 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston. He died in 2019 of what is suspected to have been a heart attack.
Johnston was born in Sacramento, California, and grew up in New Cumberland, West Virginia. He was the youngest of five children of William Dale "Bill" Johnston (1922–2017) and Mabel Ruth Voyles Johnston (1923–2010). He began recording music in the late 1970s on a $59 Sanyo monaural boombox, singing and playing piano as well as the chord organ. Following graduation from Oak Glen High School, Johnston spent a few weeks at Abilene Christian University in West Texas before dropping out. He later attended the art program at Kent State University, East Liverpool, during which he recorded Songs of Pain and More Songs of Pain.
When Johnston moved to Austin, Texas, he began to attract the attention of the local press and gained a following augmented in numbers by his habit of handing out tapes to people he met. Live performances were well-attended and hotly anticipated. His local standing led to him being featured in a 1985 episode of the MTV program The Cutting Edge featuring performers from Austin's "New Sincerity" music scene.
In 1988, Johnston visited New York City and recorded 1990 with producer Mark Kramer at his Noise New York studio. This was Johnston's first experience in a professional recording environment after a decade of releasing home-made cassette recordings. His mental health further deteriorated during the making of 1990. In 1989, Johnston released the album It's Spooky in collaboration with singer Jad Fair of the band Half Japanese.
In 1990, Johnston played at a music festival in Austin, Texas. On the way back to West Virginia on a private two-seater plane piloted by his father Bill, Johnston had a manic psychotic episode; believing he was Casper the Friendly Ghost, Johnston removed the key from the plane's ignition and threw it outside. His father, a former U.S. Air Force pilot, managed to successfully crash-land the plane, even though "there was nothing down there but trees". Although the plane was destroyed, Johnston and his father emerged with only minor injuries. As a result of this episode, Johnston was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital.
Interest in Johnston increased when Kurt Cobain was frequently photographed wearing a T-shirt featuring the cover image of Johnston's album Hi, How Are You that music journalist Everett True gave him. Cobain listed Yip/Jump Music as one of his favorite albums in his journal in 1993. In spite of Johnston being resident in a mental hospital at the time, there was a bidding war to sign him. He refused to sign a multi-album deal with Elektra Records because Metallica was on the label's roster and he was convinced that they were Satanic and would hurt him, also dropping his longtime manager, Jeff Tartakov, in the process. Ultimately he signed with Atlantic Records in February 1994 and that September released Fun, produced by Paul Leary of Butthole Surfers. It was a commercial failure. In June 1996, Atlantic dropped Johnston from the label.
In 1993, the Sound Exchange record store in Austin, Texas, commissioned Johnston to paint a mural of the Hi, How Are You? frog (also known as "Jeremiah the Innocent") from the album's cover. After the record store closed in 2003, the building remained unoccupied until 2004 when the Mexican grill franchise Baja Fresh took ownership and decided that they would remove the wall that held the mural. A group of people who lived in the neighborhood convinced the managers and contractors to keep the mural intact. In 2018, the building housed a Thai restaurant called "Thai, How Are You". Thai How Are You permanently closed in January 2020. The building remains empty
In 2004, he released The Late Great Daniel Johnston: Discovered Covered, a two-disc compilation. The first disc featured covers of his songs by artists including Tom Waits, Beck, TV on the Radio, Jad Fair, Eels, Bright Eyes, Calvin Johnson, Death Cab for Cutie, Sparklehorse, Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips and Starlight Mints, with the second disc featuring Johnston's original recordings of the songs. In 2005, Texas-based theater company Infernal Bridegroom Productions received a Multi-Arts Production/MAP Fund grant to work with Johnston to create a rock opera based on his music, titled Speeding Motorcycle.
In 2006, Jeff Feuerzeig released a documentary about Johnston, The Devil and Daniel Johnston; the film, four years in the making, collated some of the vast amount of recorded material Johnston (and in some case, others) had produced over the years to portray his life and music. The film won high praise, receiving the Director's Award at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. The film also inspired more interest in Johnston's work, and increased his prestige as a touring artist. In 2006, Johnston's label, Eternal Yip Eye Music, released his first greatest-hits compilation, Welcome to My World.
Through the next few years Johnston toured extensively across the world, and continued to attract press attention. His artwork was shown in galleries such as in London's Aquarium Gallery, New York's Clementine Gallery and at the Liverpool Biennial in 2006 and 2008, and in 2009, his work was exhibited at "The Museum of Love" at Verge Gallery in Sacramento, California. In 2008, Dick Johnston, Johnston's brother and manager, revealed that "a movie deal based on the artist's life and music had been finalized with a tentative 2011 release." He also said that a deal had been struck with the Converse company for a "signature series" Daniel Johnston shoe. Later, it was revealed by Dick Johnston that Converse had dropped the plan. In early 2008, a Jeremiah the Innocent collectible figurine was released in limited runs of four different colors. Later in the year, Adjustable Productions released Johnston's first concert DVD, The Angel and Daniel Johnston – Live at the Union Chapel, featuring a 2007 appearance in Islington, London.
Is and Always Was was released on October 6, 2009, on Eternal Yip Eye Music. In 2009, it was announced that Matt Groening had chosen Johnston to perform at the edition of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival that he curated in May 2010, in Minehead, England. Also that year, Dr. Fun Fun and Smashing Studios developed an iPhone platform game called Hi, How Are You. The game is similar to Frogger, but features Johnston's art and music. Johnston played it during its development and liked it, although he was not familiar with the iPhone.
On March 13, 2012, Johnston released his first comic book, Space Ducks – An Infinite Comic Book of Musical Greatness at SXSW, published by BOOM! Studios. The comic book ties-in with the Space Ducks album and an iOS app. Johnston collaborated with skateboarding and clothing company Supreme on numerous collections (consisting of clothing and various accessories) showcasing his artwork.
On March 1, 2012, Brooklyn-based photographer Jung Kim announced her photo book and traveling exhibition project with Johnston titled DANIEL JOHNSTON: here, a collaboration that began in 2008 when Kim first met Johnston and began photographing him on the road and at his home in Waller, Texas. On March 13, 2013, this photography book was published, featuring five years of documentation on Johnston. The opening exhibition at SXSW festival featured a special performance by Johnston along with tribute performances led by Jason Sebastian Russo formerly of Mercury Rev. The second exhibition ran in May and June 2013 in London, England, and featured a special performance by Johnston along with tribute performances by the UK band Charlie Boyer and the Voyeurs with Steffan Halperin of the Klaxons. On October 10, 2013, Jason Pierce of Spiritualized hosted the New York City opening of the exhibition, which included special tribute performances led by Pierce and Glen Hansard of The Swell Season and The Frames.
In November 2015, Hi, How Are You Daniel Johnston?, a short documentary about Johnston's life, was released featuring Johnston as his 2015 self and Gabriel Sunday of Archie's Final Project as Johnston's 1983 self. The executive producers for the film included Lana Del Rey and Mac Miller.
In July 2017, Johnston announced that he would be retiring from live performance and would embark on a final five-date tour that fall. Each stop on the tour featured Johnston backed by a group that had been influenced by his music: The Preservation All-Stars in New Orleans, The Districts and Modern Baseball in Philadelphia, Jeff Tweedy in Chicago, and Built to Spill for the final two dates in Portland and Vancouver.
On September 11, 2019, Johnston was found dead from a suspected heart attack at his home in Waller, Texas, a day after he was released from the hospital for unspecified kidney problems. It is believed that he died overnight.

UPDATE - CASE #200321, ONGOING
Unencrypting… COMPLETE.
AGENT: The Question LOCATION: Matchak-area forest, nearest astral plane(s), unlocated ruins. UPDATED: Ruins located with assistance of Wonder Woman and aerial observation. 45°59′N 21°24′E. DATE / TIME: 20/03/2021; 2200 HRS.  IS THIS A FOLLOW-UP? Y BRIEF: Inconclusive investigation of entity encountered by ARGUS personnel, suspected involvement in two evidenced local disappearances, two confirmed deaths. Additional cases of interest filed under Appendix A.
MISSION REPORT: Mousehole-based astral projection undertaken pursuing report of invisible, predatory entity residing in forest near Matchak. Contact made. Could not confirm sentience, nature, or identity. Projection disturbed and severed.
UPDATED: Search of Matchak Library Archives has yet to produce explanation for ruins described. During debrief, Wonder Woman suggested possible iconographic connection to tomb site observed while in employ of the Louvre: allegedly Etruscan, late 7th century, associated with cultural/religious authority, excavated in 2003 (45°34'N 10°22'E). Some material removed for restoration by University of Bologna. Exposure of and initial damage to site noted as natural, due to a series of storms.
UPDATED: Follow-up on tomb site conducted. Efforts to preserve structure failed; ongoing severe weather damage rendered archaeological work unsafe, and, ultimately, led to architectural collapse. Salvage efforts abandoned by May, 2003. Records of “series of storms” profoundly anomalous for Emilia-Romagna region, but comparable to observations made by J.M. Beccari in the Bologna series, 1722-26: freezing temperatures and unseasonal frosts, whirlwinds, hailstorms, extreme rainfall, and, most strikingly, aurora borealis.
SCOPE: Forested region extending from northeast Matchak to be considered hostile territory. Locals unaware of risk should be notified, dissuaded from entering region under any circumstances. Cite natural predators.
RISK LEVEL: Extreme, unpredictable, unidentified. Do not approach area without clearance to do so and appropriate backup. Do not presume conventional weaponry or defenses will be of any use - entity is plane-shifted. Physical force irrelevant. Unconventional force discouraged at this time; impact of entity on preternaturally sensitive/powered individuals unclear.
UPDATE: Exposure to entity appears to result in lingering psychic sensitization and associated symptoms. Potentially incidental; possibly targeted. Persistent.
INTEL GATHERED: See attachments.
MAPS Of the forest, its historical extent and present limits, ruins site, notes on flora and fauna, and routes previously explored by Oddfellows. SKETCHES Of ruins site from nearest astral plane(s), including iconography observed in vicinity: shallow crescent, points downturned, sometimes within and without a larger circle or circles, and series of “bracelets” of various patterns surrounding tree trunks. Similarities to traditional Sokovian apotropaic tattoos and amulets are noted and illustrated. All appear to be invisible to the naked eye, as reported by █████████████.
METEOROLOGICAL RECORDS Of Bologna, 2002-3 and 1722-26, including an etching from 1723 with Italian caption and translation referring to mysterious “waves of light” seen in the sky west of the city, additional maps noting weather patterns, photographs of the tomb dig from the University of Bologna digital collections showing storm damage, and a digitized scan of the front page of Corriere Bologna, August 3, 2003, displaying an aurora borealis.
CONTACTS: █████████████ stands as sole survivor of material encounter with entity; embedded with ARGUS Oddfellows. Inquiries made with Richard Dragon.
UPDATE: Redacted contact STEVE TREVOR declassified. Confidentiality remains vital in all communications.
FOLLOW-UP: Additional data needed before further fieldwork, material or otherwise, is suggested. Archival investigation ongoing.

FIRST! Let's start from top to bottom. The region of Asia that most of the interested contributors seemed to be from was Southeast Asia! It's followed by East Asia, then South Asia, then Southwest/West Asia.
For price ranges of what you'll be seeing at our store, we have:
Digital PDF of zine: ~$10-$20 USD
Digital bundle (zine PDF + digital merch): ~$20-$40 USD*
Physical merch (individual): ~$10-$20 USD**
*The digital bundle will include different options for digital merch bundle customization! You may opt out of certain items or add more of certain items. The +18 side zine will be an additional digital PDF that you may purchase in this bundle.
**Physical merch as of right now is a tentative yes. Meaning that we will be going forward with our applications and design process with the idea of physical merch in mind, but once we have our complete moderator team, we will be having a meeting to discuss the logistics of physical merch! And until then, we won't necessarily be advertising physical merch, but we have it as a tentative yes based on the response in our interest check.
As implied above, we WILL be going through with the 18+ side zine because of the large positive response it has received in our interest check. Contributors who apply will be asked on their preference regarding the 18+ side zine if they indicate that they are of age. More information regarding contributor apps will be released after the whole moderator team is hired!
Due to this confirmation of an 18+ side zine, we felt the need to change the moderator applications to only accept applicants who are 18 years of age or older, to ensure that everyone will feel secure and comfortable during the creation process of the zine. We had the ages of the moderator applications be different prior to the interest check results due to an uncertainty of whether or not supporters wanted the 18+ side zine, but now that it is confirmed, we will not be accepting moderator applicants under the age of 18. That being said, feel free to apply as a contributor! There is no age restriction for contributor applicants unless you'll be applying to the 18+ side zine, and we will ensure that the Discord is set up so that the 18+ side zine contributors have their own space to discuss their works without minors having access.
Now, for content of the zine! The most popular type of content from the interest check results was PAGE ILLUSTRATIONS, followed by mythology and art collaborations, myth/folklore features, myth retellings, and literature. We're excited to offer you all of this content!
Although we can't fully advertise physical merch right now due to its uncertainty, we CAN advertise what digital merch we'll be offering in our store! Get ready for wallpapers, digital printouts such as origami/bookmarks/art prints/postcards, banners and icons, PDFs of colouring book pages, and digital calendars (and, of course, the PDF of the 18+ side zine)! You will be able to fully customize your digital bundle at our store, and although our zines are in digital format, you may absolutely print it out yourself if you want to!
The question is ... is this zine for-charity or for-profit? The most popular option in our interest check was a 50-50 split between charity and profit. We considered the option and wanted to go through with this split, but we had to take into account the amount of profit we would be making from this project as well as the number of contributors we will be accepting. This means that FOR NOW, we will be having this zine's profits be donated to charity UNTIL WE HIT A PROFIT GOAL OF AT LEAST $2K-$2.5K! This is to ensure that the contributors get an appropriate amount of profit for their work. That profit goal is also only the MINIMUM we need, and we're hoping that sales will go beyond that range so that we can donate a significant amount of money to the charity of our choice as well as paying our contributors back a reasonable amount. Contributors will of course be compensated with a complete digital bundle (as well as the 18+ side zine if they want it), and we're also hoping to compensate them with at least some physical merch if we were to sell physical merchandise. The charity will be chosen once we have our full team, so that our contributors can be able to have a say in where they want the money to go!
*With the potential of profit to be given to contributors, we ask that all contributors who apply will be 16 years of age or older, or old enough to receive payment through Paypal. If you are unable to confirm your ability to receive payment as a contributor, your share will be donated to charity.
More information regarding contributor applications will be released closer to the application date! For now, MODERATOR APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN! As we've mentioned before, the timezone we'll be using in our application deadline countdown will be PST starting MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6. We'll be closing moderator applications on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 11:59:59 PM PST. Be sure to hand in your application soon! We can't wait to see everyone's submissions.
Thank you everyone! Have a wonderful morning, afternoon, and evening!

Passed/Failed: An education in the life of Brian May, guitarist of Queen
Interview by Jonathan Sale  // Thursday 23 November 2006 01:00
Brian May, 59, is the guitarist of the band Queen, whose Greatest Hits has just been named the bestselling UK album ever. He is also an astronomer, and co-author, with Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott, presenters of The Sky at Night, of Bang! - The Complete History of the Universe ( www.banguniverse.com)
I used to frighten the neighbours by standing in the middle of the road to catch something rising in the east - they thought it was burglars. I got my first guitar for my seventh birthday, and around that time, my father and I made a telescope from a kit. It was a 4in reflector, and it was amazing what you could see with it: the Moons of Jupiter, the Rings of Saturn. I projected sun-spots on to some paper and saw them moving across.
It was Patrick Moore's The Sky at Night that made me want a telescope. I was allowed to stay up late to watch the show - and now I've been a guest on it; my dad would be very happy.
The big treat at Cardinal Road Infants, in Feltham, Middlesex, was to sit on an air-raid shelter beside the school. The girls would play a game called "I wish I was..." One day, I said, "I wish I was a bum". I had no idea what it meant. The teacher said, "We are all going inside. Brian May has just used a rude word."
I remember winning a first prize and being given a book, Black Beauty. This coincided with a wart being cut off my finger in a clinic attached to the school. It was agony and I went home in pain. My mother decided to read Black Beauty to me, and I found it so sad. I found out that there are some things in life that can't be made better.
At Hanworth Road Juniors, I was pretty much an all-rounder, and enjoyed the science lessons and the English lessons. My favourite thing was rainy days, when we could stay inside to read comics, such as Eagle, featuring "Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future", a great inspiration.
Hampton Grammar was a good school - I'm a governor now - but it was all-boys, and, on the whole, I think segregation is not a good idea. Music was my friend from a very young age, but music at school wasn't a very good experience for me; we were forced to listen to classical music and told what to think of it. We used to hide round the back of the cycle sheds with our guitars, which were not allowed at school.
I got about 12 O-levels, and at A-level opted for pure maths, applied maths, additional maths and physics, and, with two As and a B, got a place at Imperial College London. There were some brilliant lecturers - Dr Payne, for example, who would bound across the stage making wave motions to illustrate his lectures on "Vibration and Waves".
When I was on the Entertainments Committee, I booked Jimi Hendrix. Later, Queen played that same hall, and we got our first review, in Disc. We were able to book the Albert Hall for charity, and got Hendrix, the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band, Free and Spooky Tooth. Smile, my student band, opened the show.
I got a 2:1 (link for anyone outside the UK like me who has no idea what that means), and there was pressure on me to get a proper job, so I decided to do a PhD on "Zodiacal dust" - stardust. You see it as a cone-shaped glow in the west at the end of the twilight, and in the east just before dawn. After four years, all the thesis wanted was binding, but I had a continuing debate with my supervisor, who thought I should be doing more, and I ran out of enthusiasm. I now spend odd moments typing it up again, and the head of astrophysics at Imperial has offered to supervise its submission. Giving it up for music in 1972 was a big risk, but when a certain door opens, you either walk through it or you don't. It won't open again.

You sat in the back of the town car as it slowly pulled up to the front door of the Park Central Hotel. After a long day of travel, you were glad to finally make it to your final destination. Upon realization of where you were staying, things slowly started kicking in that this wasn’t a dream, but this hotel was one place that you only dreamed of staying at. There were plenty of times in the past that you walked past this place, hoping to see someone famous walk out of the rotating doors, looking glamorous. You didn’t know that this would be your home for the next week, but you certainly weren’t going to complain. As you admired the hotel from the car window, the door quickly opened and a hand outstretched to help you exit the vehicle.
“We are here, Miss Y/L/N.”
“Thank you Charles.”
As you took his hand for assistance, you couldn’t help but wonder if this is what it what it always felt like for those who had personal drivers. You stood on the side walk, looking to your right. There was a clear view of Central Park. You were instantly taken back to the moment you met Chris. It seemed like months had passed since it happened, but really it was just a little over a week since that fateful morning. You were in enough of a daze that you didn’t even realize you stood in the middle of the busy sidewalk, filled with people who were rushing off to work.
“Miss Y/L/N, is everything okay?”
Thankfully Charles brought you back to reality, before some angry passerby would throw garbage at you, because you slowed down their perfectly timed out walking pace to get into the office at the exact moment the needed to be there.
“Oh, yes Charles. Everything is fine. I am just happy to be back. Thank you for your services this morning.”
“You’re welcome Miss. Now, should we go inside before you get run over?”
You smiled as he directed you towards the revolving door where you are greeted by a friendly smile.
“Welcome to the Park Central Hotel. You must be Miss Y/L/N. We have been awaiting your arrival. We hope you enjoy your stay with us.”
************************************************************************
The drive into the city went quick for Chris and Scott. It gave them time to bounce some story ideas off of each other. It also gave them a chance to relive moments from their childhood, by blasting songs on the radio and singing along. They even had a good laugh when they realized they were singing some of the lyrics wrong. They loved being able to spend time like this with each other. In their adult life, they were always going in opposite directions, so when they had the chance to get out on the open road and make more memories together, they embraced it.
Chris navigated his way through Manhattan, as they encountered the end of the day rush hour. They found themselves at a standstill on West 59th Street. This street bordered the south end of Central Park, near the very spot along the pathway that Chris met Y/n on. It was the first time on the entire drive, that Chris had gone silent. He was reliving that morning again in his mind. Oddly enough, he even looked for Y/n, as if she was actually going to be there.
“Earth to Chris…the car in front of you is moving. Are you going to go?”
Vehicles behind him started honking their horns, encouraging him in a not so polite way to get going. He shook his head as he lightly pressed on the gas.
“Is everything okay? It’s like you spaced out for a moment”
“It’s because I did. All the memories of meeting Y/n started flooding back. I caught a glimpse of the spot where we met. A part of me wished that by chance when I looked over to the spot that she would be standing there, waiting for me.”
Scott patted him on the shoulder, consoling him for the wish that was unfulfilled in the moment. He felt bad for his brother, but he was really good at containing his excitement for what he knew was going to happen the next morning.
“Well, it doesn’t hurt to have that kind of wish cross your mind. She must have been something special if you are still feeling this way about her Chris. There is nothing wrong with that.”
“You’re right. Now let’s focus on this meeting tomorrow, and maybe we can have a little fun when we are here. I don’t need to be back in Boston for a couple of days.”
“I like you’re thinking. I see that we are just about to arrive at the hotel. How about we drop our things off, freshen up, and go out for beer and food?”
“I can get behind that idea.”
As they pulled up to the front door of the hotel, Chris felt a sense of calm as he stepped out of the vehicle, putting his sunglasses on and turning his cap on the right way. He looked at the hotel and then looked to the right, where he could see Central Park. He smiled. In this moment he caused a bit of commotion with the passersby. Cellphone cameras snapped photos of him smiling. With not much in hand except a duffel bag, he quickly made his way to the entrance to pass off his keys to the valet and give a final wave to the few people who stood there in shock that they just saw him.
“Welcome to the Park Central Hotel, Mr. Evans. We have been awaiting your arrival. We hope you enjoy your stay with us”
************************************************************************
You despised the early hours you kept seeing on the bedside table clock. It started at 5am, an hour that you really weren’t too familiar with. You hadn’t slept much the entire night. Luckily you had a couple more hours to try and catch up on the sleep time you missed. It wasn’t happening though. It seemed as if you saw every ten minutes pass by. You blamed it on a good blend of nervous energy and excitement. Leading up to your actual alarm going off, you made notes and questions on the hotel stationary to often goes unused. There were plenty of questions you figured you wanted to ask, even though you were going into this meeting without any prior knowledge of what the project entailed.
As 7 am finally arrived, you looked at your phone. Apparently you were not the only one that was up early. Evelyn had texted you at 5:30am to apologize that she couldn’t have breakfast with you as she promised, but would meet you at the front door of headquarters at 8:30am to give you a tour and show you your office for the week. Her cancellation of breakfast was welcomed news as you just wanted to take your time getting ready. Before starting your morning routine, a quick call to room service for the delivery of a hearty breakfast and a giant  cup of coffee was just what you needed to feel like a human again. As you hung up the phone from placing the order, you stood in front of an illuminated mirror. You examined every line and spot on your face. You couldn’t help but smile.
“Alright, Y/n. Today is the day that you have dreamed about. You don’t have to underestimate your abilities anymore. Enjoy the moment and don’t forget to wow them.”
************************************************************************
“I hope you don’t need much time to get ready?”
Scott was already dressed and ready to go as Chris just turned over for the first time, smelling the coffee that his brother placed on the bedside table.
“When do we need to leave?”
“Well, we should be somewhat early…so how about you just get up and get ready. I got breakfast and coffee for you. Other than that, it’s all up to you and us arriving to the meeting on time.”
“Alright, alright. I’ll get up! Next time, maybe we shouldn’t stay out late the night before an important meeting.”
“May I remind you, it’s because you are getting old.”
Hiding his head underneath the pillow, Chris was awake enough to give his brother the finger.
*********************************************************************
“Welcome Y/n!!!”
Evelyn greeted you at the door, just like she said she would. You arrived not one minute early or late. You wanted to demonstrate your punctuality, without being too eager on your first day at headquarters. Evelyn was genuinely excited to see you this morning, as she gave you a hug instead of shaking your hand. It felt a little odd to see her in person, as you were used to meeting with her over video conferencing.
“It is so great to be here Evelyn”
“I apologize again for missing breakfast with you this morning, but I had an urgent meeting come up with our office in London. Are you ready to see what it is like here at headquarters?”
You already knew that you would like this place a whole lot more than your office back in Vancouver. There was something about the overall atmosphere at headquarters. Even though you had only walk through the lobby of the building so far, creativity filled the space. As planned, Evelyn took you on a tour, introducing you to all the people you really needed to know while you were there. She even introduced you to some of the illustrators you admired for years. They welcomed you with words of admiration for your work. What a surreal moment. The two of you then reached your final stop before the meeting; your office.
“Now, if we need you here in Manhattan more often, I promise that your office will be a lot more nice than this.”
Evelyn said this as she slowly opened the door into the space. Your jaw dropped. What was Evelyn talking about? The first thing that caught your eye was the floor to ceiling windows that lined one side of your office. The view was out towards Midtown Manhattan. You hadn’t really realized how far up in floors you went in the elevator, as you were caught up in conversation with Evelyn and her associates. You must have been on at least the 20th floor, maybe even more. You slowly walked into the office, letting you fingers trace the edge of the glass top desk and the all the supplies you needed to work on preliminary drawings, before transferring them to digital formatting.
“Evelyn, this is unbelievable. This is more than I would have ever imagined my office to be. Thank you.”
“I really hope it will suffice. If there is anything that you are missing, let Amy your office assistant know. She will be able to help you out. We have about 10 minutes before our meeting in the conference room at the end of the hall. I will leave you to it for a bit. I’m going to go and see if our clients are here yet, to escort them to the conference room.”
“Thank you again Evelyn. I will see you shortly.”
Evelyn exited the room and closed the door behind her. You stood there in shock. This was your life now. Well, it was for the week at least. You quickly grabbed your phone to take pictures to send to your family and Haley. Not even a minute later, Haley video called you.
“Hi Hales! I hope you don’t mind, but I can’t talk long.”
“It’s okay, I have to get ready for work anyway. I just wanted to say hi and that I love your new office. Does it seem a little surreal?”
“It sure does. I think I am in shock right now.”
“Are you about to head into your big meeting?”
“I am. Good news though, I am not nervous!”
“Oh good. So I’m thinking you don’t know who you are meeting with yet?”
“Sure don’t. Evelyn didn’t even talk about the meeting this morning. She must be feeling pretty confident about it and my ability to just go with the flow.”
“Well, I’m sure you will have a great meeting. Make sure you call or text me after it, okay?”
“I will! Love ya Hales!”
It was finally time to make your way to the boardroom. You placed your personal things away in the closet and grabbed a pen, paper, and sketchbook off your new desk and reached for the door handle. Before opening the door, you took a deep breath.
“You got this Y/n. You. Got. This.”
************************************************************************
You sat beside Evelyn’s associates who were having their own conversation about other projects. You sat there trying to contain the nervous twitch you had in one leg, as you doodled on the sketchpad. You couldn’t sit still. Nerves finally kicked in, as you could hear Evelyn in the hallway chatting. There was laughter coming from their conversation. The laughter was calming, ultimately giving you the vibe that this client was going to be fun to work with. Staring out the window as your back was to the hallway door, you kept analyzing the voices and the banter they were having. You couldn’t make out what they were talking about, but they sure were taking their time to get to the boardroom. It’s as if they needed to stop every few steps. Was there something out there that you missed seeing because you were so focused on getting to the meeting and not being late?
Just then the door slowly opened. Not sure what to do, you quickly stood up like the associates did, with you head hanging down, hoping you could hide your nerves. How were you to greet this client? Was Evelyn going to introduce you, or was that up to you to be confident? You reminded yourself to do the most important thing you have learned through life, and that was to smile. Maybe following the lead of the associates was also a good idea, as they were used to this interaction. It sure seemed strange at how they clamored together though. You could see the top of someone’s head, peak into the board room.
“Sorry for the delay, everyone. He always wants to make sure that no one feels left out.”
Sure enough the associates laughed, and some giggled like little kids, after this comment was made. You recognized the voice, but couldn’t place it. The associates remained standing somewhat in a little cluster as the familiar voice returned to the hallway. Evelyn quickly came around to the head of the table. She motioned for you to both sit down. You kept an eye on Evelyn, just in case she had more direction for you. She smiled at you as a boisterous voice entered the room.
“Good morning everyone!”
Your heart stopped. You knew that voice. You slowly turned your chair so you could try and get a glimpse of who you thought it was. He made his way down the table, greeting each associate that stood there. You looked down at your feet as your heart started to race a little more, feeling like you could get ill. You then see his feet stop in front of you. You slowly stood up, without making eye contact just yet. You extend your hand and slowly raised your head. Evelyn spoke up.
“And this is your amazing illustrator…”
“Y/n…..” Chris stood there in shock as he held your hand. You were ready to faint as your whole entire body didn’t know how to react in the moment. You didn’t want him to let go, as you feared you would fall over. Was this real? Was he real? Scott proceeded to take a seat across the table from you, with the biggest smile on his face as he grabbed his phone and snapped a picture of the two of you seeing each other for the first time.
Sure enough, the picture was sent to Haley with the caption...

Lush, loose—lofty and lovely. Lucent and lavish—lustral, laid-back, & luxuriant. Luminous. Legendary. Limitless. Light hearted and letter-perfect. There is not enough words for me to describe her overflowing talent for music, and the impact she has created for tech-savvy usernames cheering on their favorite idols & animations alike. Nowadays, most millennials and Gen Zs go neck-to-neck with their clashing interests of two international sensations: one known for the funky beats of charismatic boys dancing in synchrony, and the other, notable for moving illustrations of all kinds of stories that allure the imagination. Yes, let’s admit it, my generation has fallen in love with the influence of K-pop and anime, though I cannot blame anyone because of the fun & happiness they bring. Do you agree with me?
Well, even if you cannot agree or relate with me, I’m sure you would be able to find this article interesting! This personality is not someone of looming authority nor power—she is not a lady from the West, nor the Northern isles or even the Southern seas. She is here: the Rising Sun’s pride and honor bestowed by a sharp katana slaying all evil. It is where that familiar tune of hers is empowered with the narrative of a young man and his breathing techniques—a tale beloved by many anime fanatics. Yes! I’d like to introduce to you, one of Japan’s famed singers of all time: 𝙇𝙞𝙎𝘼! Make your entrance, please!

My life is truly music-inclined, even if I have two left feet and a raspy, rough voice. Those foreign lyrics ring out in my head, every time I enter through the gates of Japanese culture and enter my fantasy I know so well. I mean, cool right? I can still remember how I first embraced her beginning chords in January 2020, when that song, Gurenge, was heard throughout the spacious stadium of the New Era University college department. It was the opening ceremony for Intramurals 2020, and as soon as the melody played, the crowd sang along in a noisy type of harmony.
𝙂𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚, it means “red lotus” in English—the title of the Japanese opening theme for the animation called, “Kimetsu no Yaiba,” or more acclaimed as “Demon Slayer” by millions of anime ethusiasts across the web. I wondered what that range of vocals wanted to tell me. Those beautiful notes and the intensifying instrumental that accompanies such an epic story. Slowly, I understood why she is adored by many people, rain or shine, sun rays to lunar silhouettes. Now, here I am writing with everlasting conviction, to share everything I know about her—the reasons why that captivating rhythm, those inspiring words, and the pleasant emotions, made me sing along. So, let’s rest for a while, and I’ll tell you more about LiSA, behind the reflection of that worn out blade.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
LiSA, or Risa Oribe in real life, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and lyricist from the Gifu Prefecture—in the small city of Seki. She is 165 centimeters tall, which is quite tall for a Japanese woman. She is known for her multiple song hits used in Japanese animation titles such as the Fate series and Sword Art Online. Though, did you know that she also sang for the music-based anime series, “Angel Beats!” as one of the main characters who so happened to be a vocalist, as well? This was LiSA’s professional song debut in the music industry, which she lunged into when she was given a chance to step onto the reknowned arena for some of Japan’s history makers: Nippon Budokan! As a kid, Risa Oribe was taught lessons in piano, dancing, and singing, which continued onto her junior high school years. After auditioning in the infamous Budokan, she held onto the dream of becoming an artist on the next journeys she would walk on outside her hometown.
Believe it or not, the name “LiSA” is an stylized acronym, consisting of confident letters that possess unique dignified meaning from one another. The stage name is adopted from a blast from the past, of the times Risa Oribe had travelled to Tokyo to form a band. “LiSA” stands for, “𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙡” which may sound weird for English speakers, nonetheless, its significance still pulls my heartstrings all in all. Prior to becoming the individual singing artist, “LiSA,” Risa Oribe has always been a part of bands ever since high school—one of them being a cover band of indie rock music, “CHUCKY.” Despite the risk of working with the band in exchange for her accredited certificates from university, she continued to reach for her ultimate dream career as a singer. Unfortunately, “CHUCKY” only lasted for three years, and this is what led Risa Oribe to test her luck in the capital of Japan—persevering for that aspiration, because there’s no turning back now!

╰╼|════════════════════════════════════|╾╯
LiSA’s musical influences are, surprisingly, internationally respected musicians of the English language. Some of these prominent figures in her life are Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Paramore, and Rihanna. She is well-known for memorable hyped performances filled of power and passion. Sometimes, if people are granted the opportunity to be mesmerized by remarkable skill, she is also able to play the guitar and key harmonica in her concerts. She can sing in Japanese, obviously, but her words weaved with melody extends into Chinese and English perception, too. As a songwriter, she personally wrote some of her produced masterpieces like “Shirushi” and “Rally Go Round.” Though, perhaps you’ve never would guess that LiSA had a voice acting debut in 2015, too! Don’t get your hopes up because she did not give life to any anime characters, but instead, she became the Japanese voice of Madge Nelson in the film, “Minions.” I know, don’t get me wrong, it’s a shocking difference from the person LiSA is famous for.
However, for Risa Oribe, it was not something to be shy about, for she absolutely loves Minions! For avid fans of LiSA, they would often spot sightings of Minions merchandise in her social media accounts. It’s a fact that wouldn’t make you think that she can be that intimidating performer on fire, once she leaps onto stage. She still has that gentle vibe, especially when she raises her arm to greet the audience with a simple peace sign. The dark packed venue would chant along the bridge instrumental, rapidly waving their lightsticks until the song performance is finished. It’s as if the stars have landed in a small part of Earth during the night fall, to take a day-off head banging to the beat of rock. LiSA’s concerts deliver the message that “𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨,” as it is the running title pinned to her lives from then to now.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Speaking of which, here’s a fun fact! Did you also know that LiSA’s albums all start with the letter L? From “Letters to U” and “Launcher,” to “Leo-Nine” and the recently revealed “Ladybug,” each album has a motif that follows her musical style. LiSA’s original songs tell stories of hope, determination, and love. Ever since she released her first solo single debut, “Oath Sign,” for the anime, “Fate/Zero,” her name would never vanish from the music charts of new singles and albums in Japan. Songs like “Crossing Field,” “Catch the Moment,” and “ADAMAS,” of “Sword Art Online” were also noteworthy for their impact on LiSA’s career as a singer, not only for Japanese animations, but also for Japanese TV dramas and live-action films. Her very own, “Homura,” for the anime film, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train” have even outstretched to the Billboard charts across the Pacific ocean!
Today, she has celebrated her 10th anniversary in the music industry—a realization that it just seems like yesterday when she got to meet her fans in different countries, go on tours to perform everyone’s favorite anime songs of hers, and made her mark as an “𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧” of the Rising Sun. That is why she is, indeed, an artist with a lively legacy to our current era—a personality deserving of a profile article from yours truly. It’s been great having you with me in this article, and I hope you were able to find admiration for LiSA and her work! Thank you for reading! I’ll see you again in another blog where my fantasies become realities! A Nikki reminder: don’t always go with the flow, and be yourself! Good day!

Sea of Eternal Life Event
Tumblr media
A brand new week long event, that coincides with the release of Senhime. It is the 2nd half of the 2 part event "Promise with the Ancient Sea". Consists of 3 main parts; Seacoast, Sea Exploring and Eternal Sea of Ruin. The latter is only unlocked on the 7th day after maintenance.
Seacoast
Eternal Tide: Tidal Power
After clearing all the story activities for each of 5 areas in Sea Exploring, you'll be granted a Tidal Power. Tidal Powers unlock buff effects, such as;
Travel 30% faster in Sea Exploring.
Enemies gain 30% decreased DEF.
Allies gain 10% increased ATK.
Have a 5% chance to defeat a boss before challenging it.
Paper dolls will farm an extra 18000 event currency per hour.
Eternal Tide: Sea Souls
Use Sea Souls obtained from bosses or the event shop to unlock passive effects and bonus stats for your team. All Sea Souls increase 2 bonus stats by random amounts. They can also unlock/upgrade passive effects, but which passive up to chance. Low grade Sea Souls have a chance to upgrade 0-2 passive effects while high grade ones have a chance to upgrade up to 0-4.
Max bonus stats you can gain is 100% for ATK, HP, DEF, Crit, Crit DMG and 100 for SPD.
(;w;) Due to time constraints, will not be providing translations of the passive effects. Please make sure you read the descriptions for them ingame when the event is live.
Sea Stories
Can reread the event story here.
Treasure Hunting
Paper dolls will farm event currency for you here, even when you're not logged in. However, the paper dolls will stop working after 12 hours if you don't claim all the event currency they've earned for you. At the start of the event you can earn  around 200k/12hr and by day 5 you should start earning 2mil/12 hours.
While farming in Sea Exploring you may notice Treasure Maps among your reward drops. Treasure Maps increase how much event currency the paper dolls will farm for you on the next day of the event, eg any maps obtained on day 1 won't affect how much they'll farm until day 2 and so on.
Sea Exploring
Interface
If you didn't pay attention during the event tutorial ingame, then please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the interface.
To move around the map you can; 1) manually control the boat, 2) tap the icon for an activity you can see to auto travel to it or 3) open up the mini map in the top right then select an icon to auto travel to its location. Manually controlling the boat is extremely difficult due to it being impossible to turn without doing a full 360.
Under the mini map is a torii gate icon, clicking it will bring up a menu. On the right there'll be different areas you can quick travel to, first option is the Seacoast. On the bottom left there is a button that takes you to the event shop.
The yellow text above the lock team and auto buttons auto travels you to story activities. If it doesn't do anything, that means you need to unlock a new area to continue.
Exploring
We start in the north west area of the map. Other areas can be unlocked by manually going to borders and unlocking them, each area requires a specific Tidal Power to be unlocked. The south east area can be unlocked on the 5th day.
Can be done on auto. On auto the boat will only go to 2-3 of Sea Spirit Trails and alternate between them, if you've unlocked the middle area it'll always alternate between the same 2-2 bosses there. Even if you're right next to a Sea Spirit Trial or any other activity, even in a different area, auto will not take you to it.
Activities:
Story: Unlock event story and clear battles with Suzuka, Yao and Senhime.
Sea Spirit Trial: Defeat bosses for rewards, costs 1 event AP to do solo or co-op. Every time you defeat a boss within 10 turns a new stage will be unlocked, there are 10 stage in total. Stages difficulty is only shared with bosses within the same area. The higher the stage, the better the rewards (eg. stage 1 gives ~40000 event currency while stage 8 give ~90000). They also have a chance to drop low grade Sea Souls.
Ootakemaru bosses in the south west and middle areas give the most event currency (~100000).
Sea Monster Trial: Defeat Kraken, Angry Kraken, Namazu or Shinkiro for similar rewards you would normally get from Kraken in regular PVE. Shares stage difficulties as the Sea Spirit Trials within the same area, but get slightly less event currency than in Sea Spirit Trials. They also have a chance to drop low grade Sea Souls. There is no Sea Monster Trial boss in the 5th area.
Co-op Whirlpool: A co-op area where you and others can clear 4 bosses together, but can be done solo. Each whirlpool can only be cleared once. Rewards from each boss include ~60000 event currency, both low and high grade Sea Souls, orochi scales, demon souls and 1-3 rows of 5-6* random souls.
If you played on CN during that collab with the Ebisu skin, it's exactly like that.
Tesso's Treasure: It's basically draft duels + betting, costs 1 event AP to do. Draft pick some shiki to fight against an AI picked team, then place a bet on your team with event currency. Can also increase your bet reward by picking a buff for the enemy draft team. If you lose your bet you can choose to fight Tesso, but be careful! Tesso's minions will be the ones you draft picked.
Highest amount of event currency you can win is 540000 and there's a chance to get a 1-2 Sea Souls as well. After winning 3-6-9 etc matches in a row, you'll also get a one time reward.
Reward Box: Get rewards such as 80000-100000 event currency and guild medals. Each box can only be claimed once.
Event Shop: Going to it unlocks 1 of the 5 tabs for the shop, plus you can also see Youko stand outside it while wearing his new skin.
Torii Gate: Going to it unlocks quick travel between areas.
Flowers: Read messages left by shikigami or other players, can like them or leave a comment on them too. Or create your own message for others to read.
Note: Some activities like Sea Monster Trials and Tesso's Treasure can only be done a certain number of times per day in each area.
Eternal Sea of Ruins
After the 7th day (on the 2nd Wednesday of the event after maintenance), the server must work together to defeat the mermaid king within 2 days. However, the boss won’t be challengable from 23:59 to 08:00. Costs 6 AP to challenge the boss.
The boss has 2 modes; morningtide and eveningtide. You can can switch between before challenging them, both modes have different skills, so pick whichever mode you find easiest to do. Under the HP bar for boss will be another 2 bars, each one represents the 2 modes. When both halves have been reduced to 0%, the boss will enter a weakened state that lasts for 1 hour.
Can get 100000 event currency for doing more than 100mil damage and ~10 picture book(?) fragments. When you have 40 fragments, can use them to pick a 6* soul out of a random selection of 3. The rewards for total accumulated damage are; 10 jade, 15min soul buff, 1 blue summon ticket, 10 black daruma shards and a 5* white daruma. Reward for defeating the boss is an animated version of the frame obtained when this part of event starts.
Strongly recommend maxing out your Sea Souls before this part of the event starts.
Exchange Shop
The shop is split into 5 tabs. Each tab can only be unlocked by going to each shop on the map. Notable rewards for each tab include:
Tab 1: event AP, Sea Souls, gold, AP, 50% EXP buff, 6* transfer ticket, 3* white daruma, 1 blue summon ticket, event frame, shikigami background (ch27 BG),
Tab 2: Youko skin, shikigami background (ch4 BG), 1 blue summon ticket, skin tickets, gold,
Tab 3: 100 jade, Sougenbi scrolls, blue daruma, 5* white daruma, AP, 1 blue summon ticket, 2 5* special realm cards,
Tab 4: 150 jade, skin tickets, gold, orochi scales, a 5* special realm card, evo material pack,
Tab 5: AP, SP skin tickets, black daruma, random SSR/SP, a loading screen illustration, 3 event packs,
Each of the 3 event packs can be bought 99 times. The type of items that can be obtained from them are;
Pack 1: R-SSR shikigami shards, gold and EXP buffs, etc
Pack 2: 6* souls, EXP souls, orochi scales, demon souls, totem zone tickets, etc
Pack 3: daruma, daruma shards, realm cards, bio affection items, soul and evo buffs, AP, etc
We only get 30 event AP per day, so buying all of daily event AP in tab 1 is recommended. If you have spare jade to spend, buying some of the daily Sea Souls in tab 1 is also recommended.
If possible, avoid spending your event currency until you unlock tab 5 of the shop. It is not possible to buy everything.
Recommended Teams
Sea Exploring
Tumblr media
First team is for general farming. Second is for fast clears to unlock harder stages, can also swap out Enmusubi for another multi-hit attacker like Takiyasha or Suzuka. And the 3rd team is for people who have maxed out the monkey and tako drum Sea Souls and want to fully take advantage of them.
For the Sea Monster Trials, use whatever team works for you.
After you have maxed out the bonus stats from Sea Souls you won't need crit at all, so remember to adjust your souls sets accordingly.
Sea of Eternal Ruin
Tumblr media
Like the previous event, as long as you have a team that does really well against a single enemy you shouldn't have too much trouble with this.
If you intent in using the first team and don't have Enmusubi, the alternatives are Senhime, Shoyou, Kiyohime or SP Kiyohime.
If you're a beginner, recommend fighting the boss in morningtide mode. If you’re not using a team that needs kyoukotsu on Ushi, then remember to swap her set from shadow to watcher as the fight goes on.
For the last team you could use SP Kiyo instead of Sanbi but why you do that. Make me proud by using Sanbi!

TAFAKKUR: Part 419
THE TRAGEDY OF THE AMAZON: Part 1
The Amazon tropical rainforest is the largest in the world, spanning nine Latin American countries-Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guinea and Surinam -and covering 5.5 million square kilometers (550 million hectares), an area nearly six times the size of Turkey (Goldenberg and Durham, 1990, p.25). It catches an average annual rainfall of more than 100 inches and is the home of literally millions of species of plants and animals, most of them unique to the region. One hectare of Amazon rainforest may hold as many as 230 different species of trees, compared to the 10 or 15 species in the equivalent area of any other rainforest (see The Ecologist 1989, special issue on the Amazon). One report estimated, for a typical 4 sq. mile patch, approximately 750 species of trees, 125 of mammals, 400 of birds, 100 of reptiles and 60 of amphibians, while a single tree might be the habitat of more than 400 insect species, 80.000 plant species (including 600 kinds of palm alone) and some 30 million animal species inhabit the Amazon forest (Linden, 1988, p.45).
For that reason, the region constitutes a vast, natural pharmacopoeia. Plant and animal tissues obtained from the rain forest are used in the production of chemicals of known medicinal potency. (The ingredients for the best known drugs are extracted from the tropical plants.) So far less than one percent of the Amazon’s plant species have been studied for their possible curative properties (McGee, 1990, pp.516-17).
In contrast to the wealth of its flora and fauna, the soil of the Amazon is poor, so poor that, when large areas are cleared up, the regeneration process may take as long as 300, in some places even 1000 years (Giamo, 1988, p.539). But, the forest is rich in various natural resources: deposits of manganese, aluminium, copper, tin, nickel, iron, gold and natural gas have been found. Annual production of these minerals is worth about 1.5 billion dollars (McGee, 1990, p.515).
The region as a whole is vital to the maintenance of the world ecological order; it is an important factor in world weather patterns; nearly half of the world’s oxygen atmosphere is released from its vegetation; and approximately two-thirds of the world’s fresh water is stored in the Amazon basin.
DEFORESTATION OF THE AMAZON
Today, one of the most serious problems facing the international community is the uncontrolled destruction of this unique environment. Deforestation of the Amazon region is being done by all nine states sharing the region, though Brazil, 59% of whose territory is located in the Amazon basin, is the most active. Over the last three decades, the scale of destruction has become intolerable. There are no precise figures; the estimate is a loss of 13.000 sq. km. of forest annually. The total destruction of the Brazilian Amazon so far amounts to 415.000 sq. km., an area about the size of Iraq (Cerrill, 1992, p.44). Pessimists expect the Brazilian rainforest to have been largely destroyed by the first decades of the next century, despite a fall in the rate of destruction (ibid).
In a global perspective, the destruction of the earth’s lungs (for that is what the rainforests are) raises two problems. First, the increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere. In 1988 an estimated 12,000 sq. miles of Brazilian forest, an area larger than Belgium, was set alight to clear land for agricultural use. Excessive CO2 emission from such fires is among the main causes of the so-called greenhouse effect: Amazon deforestation contributes nearly five percent of the total CO2 emissions worldwide; the region as a whole stores in its flora 0.75 billion tons of carbon (Linden, 1989, p.46). The increase in the temperature of the earth’s surface will bring about climatic chaos, threatening the future of the global ecosystem including mankind. Second, deforestation goes hand in hand with the destruction of fauna and flora. It is estimated that every day one species becomes extinct (Goldenberg and Durham, 1990, p.26). If the Amazon rainforests vanish, more than a million species, a significant portion of the earth’s biological diversity and genetic heritage, will become extinct (Linden, 1989, p.45). The scale of the danger can be simply illustrated: 900 species of fig provide essential nutrition for spider monkeys, peccaries (a variety of pig) and toucans, for over three months of every year; the figs themselves depend on pollination by wasps–if the wasps go, all species higher up on the food chain go also: the monkeys and jaguars would disappear.
The well-being of the generations to come is dependent upon the preservation of biological diversity. Failure means that our children will be deprived of the opportunity to discover or modify pharmaceutical compounds from the genetic diversity that is now available but would then not be. And that lack would be felt also in the agricultural sector where genes taken from wild species are used to interbreed with domesticated varieties to enrich and strengthen them. For example, the California barley crop, with an estimated annual value of $160 million, was rendered immune to the lethal yellow dwarf virus by a gene from a barley plant found in Ethiopia (Dobson, 1992, p.282). That is why even Westerners agree that ‘Brazil is very important to the international community because of its biological diversity’ (Cerrill, 1992, p.46).
The Brazilians are accused of constructing highways, colonizing the region through large-scale migration, ranching, mining and lumbering. In fact, all the Latin American countries who share it also share in the destruction of the rainforest. In some of these countries, the forest is cleared to grow coca for cocaine production. Many endangered plants and animal species are caught for export to the West’s pet shops. The local governments are unable or reluctant to enforce international agreements to protect the fauna and flora threatened with extinction.
The principal excuse for the ongoing destruction is widespread poverty, even hunger, in the countries concerned. One Brazilian president said ‘we cannot discuss the environment issue without taking into account the situation of poverty and misery in which three-quarters of humanity lives’ (Cerrill, 1992, p.46). We should ask ourselves why such poverty arises in a region which Allah has endowed with so much natural wealth and beauty.

“Enter Brancalonia, an anti-heroic land full of pitfalls and profit possibilities, in the most incredible and roguish Italian role-playing game you have ever participated in!
Create your band of Knaves, enlist in a free Company, get assigned some well-paid jobs, whack some chiacchierone and go give a fist and knife buffet to those deserving it.
When you have collected a nice loot and climbed the ranks of your company a bit, you will be ready to try your luck in that final job that could let you go out in blaze of glory...
After all, you are in a fantasy version of Italy: escape from guards, taste La Bella Vita and gain big money with some dirty job. What could possibly go wrong?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brancalonia is the all-Italian setting for the 5th Edition of the most famous role-playing game of all time. This anti-heroic, picaresque and roguish world is a “back-to-front” version of Medieval Italy. It quotes, collects, and mixes together references from contemporary Italian fiction and over a hundred works from the Italian fantasy tradition, pop culture, and collective imagery.
Tumblr media
We are going to produce Brancalonia in English and Italian languages. You will be able to select the language of your rewards in a survey we'll send after the campaign ends.
Download now the Quickstart in your language and try it for free!
Tumblr media
The “Spaghetti Fantasy” is a new fantasy genre; just imagine a Spaghetti Western with swords, based on Italian folklore, history and pop culture:
Literature masterpieces such as Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio and Dante’s Divina Commedia
Spaghetti Western movies such as Sergio Leone’s and the mythical duo Bud Spencer and Terence Hill
Movie classics set in Italy (real or fictional) like The Princess Bride, Ladyhawke, Flesh + Blood, The Name of the Rose, Da Vinci’s Demons
Suggestions from videogames set in Italy such as Ezio Auditore in Assassin’s Creed
Italian speculative fiction (Eco, Buzzati, Calvino…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Basic Manual of Brancalonia has 192 color pages, richly illustrated with maps, characters, antagonists, monsters and other images evocative of the Kingdom. Inside you will find:
• A general description of the Kingdom, its history and its main regions, from the Pale Mountains in the north to the Charybdean Sea in the south, from the barbaric city of Tergesta in the east to the coast of the Zigane Sea in the far west..
• Five new playable races, in addition to the Human, taken from Italian tradition and folklore: the Gifted, the Malebranches, the Marionettes, the Morgants and the Sylvans.
• Twelve new subclasses, one for each of the basic classes, each adapted to the Kingdom, and strongly characteristic of Italian history, tradition and folklore: hence we have the Benandante and the Superstician; the Sword-player and the Brigand; the Miraculist and the Friar.
• New Backgrounds, Character Traits, Ideals, Ties and Defects typical of Brancalonian Knaves.
• New Talents, Spells, Treasures, Diseases, and Poisons.
• Secrets, threats, curiosities, places of interest, rumors, monsters and game suggestions for the Condottiero, including a generator of Dives, one of Memorabilia and one of Roads that go nowhere!
• New Setting Rules: Moves and Whacks (full version); Poor Equipment and Stolen Equipment; Band, Cronies, and Den management; Bounties, Revels, and Prophecies; Long Rest and Gritty Realism; Dive Games.
• The Introductory Solo Adventure The Son of the Eagle.
• The In Search of Fortune campaign, in six Episodes.
• Twelve new monsters and twelve antagonists typical of Italian history, tradition, and folklore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You are the dregs of the adventure world, the cannon fodder of all battles, the scum that emerges when you scrape the bottom of the barrel, the dirty dozen that is pulled out of prison just to carry out desperate missions.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Brancalonia, all the playing characters are Knaves or members of a Band of mercenaries, rogues and similar rascals, engaged in questionable jobs across the various domains of what is left of an ancient kingdom now in ruins.
This huge rabble, this endless crowd of scapegallows of which you are worthy exponents is also identified in its entirety as Bounty Brothers (Fratelli di Taglia): Infamous, Badly Bountied, Half Bounty, Brother, Bountiful, Old Bounty and Large Bounty are the many names by which you rogues go by. The Bands in Brancalonia freely make their forays up and down the Kingdom often hired by villagers, merchants, nobles and warlords for all sorts of odd jobs, generally illicit, dangerous things that nobody wants to do. And that's when it's okay ... When it goes wrong, behind the jobs there are curses, demons, witchcraft, monsters and double-dealings.
After all, if people rely on Knaves it is because there is some sort of scam going on, right?
