Якщо Повітрулю розізлити, вона перетворювалась на ураган й могла позав'язувати дерева вузлами.

Про людину, котра мала необережність потрапити в такий вихор годі й казати!

Донька карпатських вітрів — повітруля. Українська міфологія Могутні, нестримні, нескорені, як саме життя, гірські вітри сивих Карпат. Ну якими ще могли з’явитися на білий світ істині доньки своїх батьків, як не волелюбними і стрімкими красунями оповитими різнобарвним квітковим шовком з легкими мереживними крилами за спиною, прекрасними, як сама Україна? Повітрулі — міфічні жительки українського фолклору.

Їхня домівка — високі гори обгорнені в хутро вічнозелених смерек. Хоча холодну пору року вони не люблять, ховаючись на цей період в тільки їм одним відомих глибоких печерах, щоб в теплому мареві сну перечекати всі негоди, рясні дощі та заметілі. Повітрулін час — від розквіту першої весняної квітки і аж до останнього впалого з дерева листочка, саме тоді веселими зграями та поодинці, як кажуть в народі їх можна стріти на залитих сонячними променями полонинах чи край річкового берега, в лісових хащах чи пустуючими в кришталі озерних вод.

До речі, саме під час прийняття прекрасними доньками вітру водних процедур — єдиний час, коли простий смертний ��оже хоч на мить підкорити їхній дух, вкравши крила. Вони самі прийдуть по свій головний скарб до викрадача, а там вже на власний розсуд: або вимагай виконання бажання, або спробуй одружитися з цією рудоволосою красунею з блакитними очіма, якщо вистачить сили терпіти її примхи та мінливий характер (від таких союзів, кажуть інколи навіть діти народжуються), але завжди пам’ятай, що кохання і виконання обов’язків повітруль тривають лише до того моменту, поки вони не отримують назад свої крила.

В тих крилах прихована вся магія чарівниць — їхньою силою вони за бажанням можуть надійно вкрити від будь-яких негараздів об’єкт своєї тимчасової пристрасті (які зазвичай походять з вівчарів), та не одного, зі всім його стадом; а можуть в гніві одним помахом покрутити хребта недбалому коханцеві чи стовбур дерева у вузол, щоб той привалив його отару (з тією самою ціллю може здійняти вихор).

Маючи непосидючий норов, але добре серце повітрулі завжди на боці кохання, тому в народі кажуть, що завжди можна заручитися їхньою підтримкою в делікатних справах сердешних, для чого вона не жалкуючи свого часу та сил може і старою обернутися, щоб мудрим словом спонукати об’єкт чиєїсь пристрасті звернути свій погляд на закоханого, чи молодою подружкою-вірницею підвести сором’язливе серце у вірному напрямку. Хоча якщо чабану в далеких горах раз-у-раз насниться його далека, то на десятий – саме донька вітрів спуститься до нього в образі коханої, щоб заспокоїти змучену тугою душу.

Єдиний кого боїться бешкетниця-повітруля — то дух лісу чугайстер, який може підкрастися до неї уві сні. І тоді чекай лиха, бо через якусь взаємну нелюбов, витоки якої кубляться в сивій давнині української міфології, сутички між ними закінчуються дуже погано.

Story in caption. Week 12 - Fury of the Tools

Until now, I found most of the retired failed prototypes here at Tinker Toll quite endearing. But the two bio-mechanical and magical dragon constructs I met this week were truly terrifying. They designed their ‘instrumentum fabrica draconis’ as tools for their forges. As any gnome knows, dragon fire is the ultimate fire for forging the most durable tools or weapons. Unfortunately, these creatures usually violently disagree with being used as a tool. So they combined parts of a dying dragon with their mechanical and magical components. The fire part worked like magic, but they sadly also transferred the dragon’s fury about being used as a tool. Only the most daring gnomes could harden their tools in their fiery breath. But if they (and their tools) survived, the results were truly exceptional. I wish everyone would be so open about their failures, as in most cases, the road to true expertise comprises failures and important lessons learned from them. My brothers and sisters here are so skillful at what they do because they share and value these lessons rather than try to gloss over them! Anyhow, I think it is once again time to move on. I want to spend some time at the sea, visiting some old friends. And the journey is endless, so I might not send reports in the upcoming weeks.

I’m joining Folktale Week! Today’s prompt is FOOL, and my illustration is the Fool tarot card with a kidlit twist (apologies to Pamela Colman Smith). A few years ago I learned how to read tarot cards and it’s still my favorite hidden talent. Upright, the Fool indicates beginnings, innocence, and spontaneity. Reversed (upside-down), the Fool indicates holding back, recklessness, and risk-taking. When the Fool appears in a reading, get ready for adventure!

Week 10 - Bright Aquatic Dragon

Yesterday, the gnomes here at the Tinker Toll R&D center presented me with another of their dropped yet revered prototypes. Residing in a huge saltwater tank, this creation is their answer to their marketing department’s request to expand the product portfolio for the well-funded aquatic races on Almaos. R&D once again created a marvelous dragon-like prototype out of biological, magical, and mechanical components. Unfortunately, to appreciate its genuine beauty, the observer has to wear thick black-tinted glasses. The design input asked for an autonomous aquatic guardian patrolling their houses and villages. Studying biological defense mechanisms, they found that intense light could scare away many underwater predators. It worked like a charm - initially. Once again, leakage sealed their end. The engineers could not keep the water out, and this time the mechanical parts did not like the water at all. Even without the proximity of predators, the prototypes flared up brightly. Even worse, they started swimming straight ahead without being able to change direction. Three of the four prototypes are still out there, somewhere cruising the ocean. The gnomes could only salvage one prototype, as its mechanics locked sideways, making it now circle their tank day after day.
