new chapter of the Antique Mask story is here 🌿
well, the investigators to that point have a feeling that something is very wrong with the fire in wax museum, and that there is no clues about current location of Aristide Zweig. they look for more answers, and questions are:
- who and why started the fire?
- what about the fire fighter guy, who disappeared?
- what happened to the wax figures?
looking for the first answer, the investigators arrange a meeting with one of their informants, and their first thought - doctor Witherspoon, or the police detective Lomann.
doctor, despite his complicated character, is a rather nice person. he is helping Theodor Skovinskij, who is jew and widower, raising alone a teenage daughter, lovely shy Ilse.
Tumblr media
Little Ilse was the one who started the fire. doctor forbid police to interrogate her, as she still shocked and traumatised. so, officially, the fire was an accident. if the players are digging deeper, doctor or the girl's father could tell more about her condition - all she remember is that something pushed her to go upstairs and start the fire in the owner's cabinet. and then - something horrible, as they were moving.
Tumblr media
unfortunately, none of my players ever invited Magnificent Saliano to the museum. i prepared a little random table of short dialogues that he could possibly recreate imitating the voice of persons speaking. it's exact pieces of the original "The Mask of Medusa" Mystery in the Air episode - some just most emotional moments, like the panic started after the murderers was freed, or the moment when Ilse's mind was overpowered by them chanting "matches and fire". and others very revealing - like when nameless Peter Lorre's character accuses Zweig of murdering everyone in the exibit hall, or makes him look at the Mask of Medusa. And - and that one only is not accurate to the radio episode - demand for taking him away in very agressive and panicing manner, and then sound of the broken window, as a few shards suddenly fall out of their place, interrupting the seance.
maybe, if i would run this game again, i would ask my players to think of not overly rational characters, so the idea of the medium's help won't sounds bad to them 😁
obviously, this last dialogue and broken glass sound - it's the moment of actual meeting of Fenning and Boris.
speaking of the devil.
it's another thing that none of my players ever did, bit if they would look for the missing fire fighter description - yeah, it's Boris. his real name ir Werner, and he was a simple man, suffering from severe alcoholism, but really strong and helpful, and with something good in his heath, that made his volunteer for the fire fighting crew. that night he was drunk, so his mind was easily overpowered by Fenning alone.
Tumblr media
well it's clear now about the girl, and about Boris. but where is the exibits? as everybody familiar with the Mask of Medusa knows - someone called Albert runs the exibit now. and the investigators easily get this information too, using whatever source they prefer - police, newspaper of street gossips.
so our next stop is Le Theatre des Horreurs ✨
