America was different than you’d expected it to be.

In the shows and movies, there wasn’t much diversity; either you were on a farm, or you were in the big city. The speech patterns were always overdramatized, too, and when you first reached the McGuire base in New Jersey, you were a bit disappointed when nobody shouted that “they were walkin’ he-ya!” Even more disappointed when you reached Brooklyn and were told that the accent was of a dying variety.

But in the grand scheme of things, it was so…normal. It was England before the outbreak, but with smaller busses and slower trains. You didn’t really know how to feel about it, about how the rest of the world carried on so unconcerned while the island you grew up in fell to pieces. In a way, relieved, but a small part of you felt almost offended that nobody was holding constant vigils.

What offended you more, though, was the realization that the process of being granted asylum was not something that happened quickly. While you were appreciative to Hannah’s distant cousins who had agreed to sponsor you while you awaited the business to be over—which could take years, you’d learned—you were nauseated that you still had to prove yourself in order to be allowed to stay. The lawyers, doctors, soldiers, and judges you’d met with explained that the process would go smoothly, that it was something that had to be done, not due to the nature of the thing you were escaping, but due to those who might abuse any leniency the country showed.

The world really hadn’t changed at all.

“Finished already?” You hummed at Jim when he walked through the door. Hannah’s family had taken you all shopping when you first arrived—a relief, really, to be able to change out of the fatigues the air force had given you—and Jim, despite his usual attire being casual, at best, looked so…handsome, now, with his skin not caked in blood, or dirt, or sweat. His hair was growing back in and he was wearing jeans that actually fit him. His shirt read “I<3NY” and even though you told him it looked ridiculous when he had first picked it up, you couldn’t deny that it hugged his arms in the right places.

“Not much to be done. You stitched me up so well.” He smiled at you, crossing the apartment to join you on the couch. “Doctor said he’d like to meet you.”

“I’ve met too many people this month.” You curled your legs up under you and stretched your arms over your head. “Never thought I’d say it, but I miss the apocalypse.” You leaned your head back.

Jim exhaled through his nose, amused, leaning himself back on the couch to face you. “No, you don’t.”

“I don’t,” You agreed, “It’s just…”

“Too much, too soon.”

“I guess.” You stared at each other for a while, not moving, not speaking. “I wish I could fast forward.” Jim tilted his head into the cushion he was leaning on, prompting you to continue. “I want to be used to it by now. Wanna be able to walk down the street and see a missing poster and still have hope.” You shuddered when you remembered the posters plastered on the train station walls, how familiar one disaster could feel when compared to another. “I want to feel normal. Everything here is so normal. Why am I not normal yet?” You didn’t have the energy to continue pouring over your emotions, perfectly fine with leaving it on that note.

“You’re not normal.” Jim leaned forward. “Neither am I. Neither is Hannah—s’got nothing to do with—” He waved around the two of you, implying the ordeal you’d lived through. You nodded in agreement. “And we’ll never be their kind of normal. Might just be ‘cause we’re English. Heard they had a war with us here, way back.” Jim deadpanned, and you smiled at him.

“I think I just need a shower.” You sighed, still looking at him. You felt the sudden urge to kiss him, to grab him and pull him close to you, tell him to join you in the shower. You felt your skin flush at the thought. You hadn’t been able to do much of anything but go to different meetings since you got here. One after another, it had made it difficult to find time for yourself, let alone time for you and Jim. Stolen kisses here and there, cuddles under the sheets of your bed, calling out “I love you” before the door closed behind you—there had been no time to enjoy each other.

Not to mention, you lived in a rented apartment with thin walls, and Hannah’s room was next to yours.

ok so first up is producer recs!

Syudou- syudou is the producer who directly inspired the post i made about tuning (which is im assuming why u sent this ask lol)! the way he tunes vsynths for his songs tend to be very high-pitched as well as somewhat soft and quiet, which i absolutely adore. however, his unique tuning can be pretty offputting for some people (cough cough the insane amount of hate ive seen for jackpot sad girl & usseewa voca versions cough cough). if youre looking for good, unique tuning id defo say check out his stuff if u havent! specific recs are cute na kanojo and jackpot sad girl

Guchiry- guchiry is one of my all-time favourite producers, and has some of the most unique tuning for vocaloids ive heard. guchiry also usually goes for a high-pitched sound, but it's in a very different way. honestly, the way he tunes is kind of hard for me to describe?? idk... its definitely the type of vocals that a human could never replicate (this is proven by the fact that there's almost no human covers of guchiry songs LMAO). plus the way he tunes works extremely well with the intense, fast-paced instrumentals he usually goes for. honestly you'll just have to take my word for it and check out his stuff. specific recs are vanish and orthodoxia

Ayase- ayase's miku is one of my favourites ever!!!! he, like the two producers above, opts for a tuning in a higher range. there is also a soft quality to his mikus that i think is really nice. the thing that makes his tuning really unique is the fact that he leans into the robotic-ness of vocaloid! this style of vocals works so unbelievably well with the chill, electronic style of instrumental he often uses, and makes for some incredible stuff that human vocals just cant capture. specific recs are cinema and ghost city tokyo

sasakure.uk- if you thought that ayase embraced the robotic sound that vocaloids can produce, sasakure has practically buried himself in it! i think that sasakure's work is most notable to me for the fact that (in my opinion) his instrumentals stick out more than the vocals? and not in a bad way! not at all! its just that the way he tunes his vsynths is in such a fashion that they feel like part of the instrumentals. like, instead of the music feeling like it's a vessel for the vocals, the vocals instead blend into the instrumentals in a really unique way i havent heard with many other producers? the way sasakure tunes and uses vocaloids is something so distinct, and something that can really only be done through the medium of vocal synthesizers. specific recs are amara and future eve

Hiiragi Kirai- hiiragi takes flower, a vocaloid i find already sounds pretty unique, and goes fucking crazyinsane with her!! his flower tuning is so unbelievably cool and unique, ive srsly never heard someone use her in a way like he does. he makes her voice sound intense, harsh and growly which is seriously soooo sick :D flower's harsh vocals paired with the often intense instrumentals creates a vibe that's almost impossible to replicate with human vocals (the only covers i can think of that have managed to be on par with hiiragi's originals is ado's bocca della verita & loveka). specific recs are bottom and autophagy

Maretu- 😁😁😁 do i really have to say anything here. maretu perfectly utilizes the robotic sound that miku can produce, and makes her sound incredible with the chiptune & rock instrumentals he uses!! the vibes in maretu's original songs are so fucking good and ive (afaik) yet to find a cover that's on par with his og stuff. listen, you're asking for vocaloid recs on the maretu blog, this is a given. specific recs are koukatsu and white happy

read a lot of smut

in general, reading helps improve your writing skills in every area, so this is like my number one tip overall. i think it's important to read other people's smut works (and not just the same writers all the time) to see what you like and what you don't.

it's easier to write smut if it's something that you actually think is hot, rather than trying to shoehorn a trope or a kink that you have no interest in 💀

2. remember where everyone's body parts are

there's so much going on during a smut scene, but it's important to keep track of everyone's body parts lol it can be confusing if you have the guy kissing her cheek in one sentence and then in the next sentence have him kissing her thigh without showing some sort of leadup to how he made his way down there.

i'm very good at picturing scenes in my head, but i know not everyone thinks like that, so if that's the case for you i'd recommend looking at art or videos to see how people's bodies fit together to help you keep track of where all of their limbs are 💀 i hope that makes sense lmao

3. editing is the least sexy part of the process

i'll be real with you right now, but i usually get turned on when i'm thinking about writing a smut scene and when i'm actually writing it down.

but when i start editing... i get soooo turned off. like sometimes i full on get the ick with my own writing lmao but i think that's normal? when you're editing it, you're reading it with a more critical eye and fixing all of the spatial issues or clunky dialogue or whatever else, so it really takes the sexiness out of the smut.

but that's why i recommend writing stuff that you actually think is hot in the first place!!! because if you're unsure about it when you're thinking/writing it, then when you get icked out editing it can be harder to tell if your scene is actually sexy or not lmao

Forever Undone

Hahah so hiii, i haven’t posted a song in a while, and that’s purely cos I wanted to have a bigger stock of songs (haha slightly dramatic there but we’ll work with that) before I started posting more, but now I’m like fuck it, might as well post one.

So, if you are a The Cruel Prince fan, you might have recognised the title, because this song is based on Jude and Cardan. Specifically, Cardan’s POV when Jude got exiled, and how in all the letters he wants her back. So yeah, this is very angsty (I write those best it seems) and absolutely packed with references, because I started doing this thing (when I first wrote that song, it has been over a month since i’ve written it) were I wrote down a bunch of quotes from the couple/person it’s based off of, and then tried to incorporate it into the song. I was reading all ur fics yesterday like opening them all up and rereading, im actually in love with how you write its so perfect and your so so so soooo creative, the newest one acc had me blushing and kicking my feet??? like ily and a ton of other people who read ur work love you so dont lose hope :))) and how else do u think you've gotten this far?? bc ur so talented, even when u think u arent doing that well a lot of other people see u as their role model and rllyyyy admire youu. I write myself, not fanfiction but mainly murder mysterys or just mysteries or fiction sometimes with a little bit of romance but I see myself coming back to ur fics to see the way u described smth or refer to a paragraph that I particularly liked and it gets my flow going again !! ilyyy and have a great great day -💌

what i like about black clover ???? *takes deep breath*

since you like naruto, i think you'll also enjoy black clover since the vibes and everything are pretty similar! i have not watched naruto but my brother did and he said its similarty with naruto is what made him get into black clover, and now it's also one of his favs

it's kind of a typical shonen series with common shonen themes and lots of super cool fighting scenes but what i love most about it are the characters! it has that found family troupe with a whole bunch of chaotic gremlin characters who are the underdogs! the female characters are especially *chef's kiss* they're all so bad ass and well written! and the little side characters too! everyone have something special about them, so i have sooo many fav characters lol

it's very fun to watch, lots of funny moments and some emotional moments that'll catch you off guard! also hella cool plot twists and transformations and again, the fight scenes! soooo hype! and the world building is also really interesting!

the one other thing (aside from asta being loud) that gets people to drop the series is that it didn't have the best animation in the beginning (due to a craaazy messed up staff schedule from studio pierrot lol) but it really does improve as the episodes go! like ofc it's no kny with the super flashy animation but i do love how the fight scenes are animated especially later in the series!

for me, it started off with me thinking it'll just be another nice anime that i'll like ~ the normal amount~ but it just became special the more i watched! but like im gonna stop here im so sorry this was long ajdhajxhdjs and thank you for asking me and giving me a chance to ramble!! 🥰🥰🥰

i really really luved 'how soon is now?' by the smiths and i definitely need to listen to them more !!! im so obsessed w how he sings certain lyrics it sounds So nice (literally listneing to the song rn as i type lol)

u were right abt me enjoying 'crybaby' by destroy boys a lot as i already know that song and its one of the 2 or 3 songs i know from them lol . its really really good

i Immediately added 'saturnine' to my main playlist once it was over !! the chorus is So nice to listen to i really luved it !

i had forgotten u said u were going for the vibe of floating in the ocean and when listening to 'andromeda' i literally thought 'this song feels like floating down a river or something' . the way she sings 'let me in if i break / and be quiet if i shatter' was So. gah . its good.

as for my recommendations:

summertime - my chemical romance

heaven, iowa - fall out boy

unpunishable - ethel cain (the chorus of this song is Everything)

so far so fake - pierce the veil (1:30-on, but especially 2:25-~3:00 is Beautiful. i . luv guitars .)

and bonus song because its all that stuck in my head currently : bury me in black (demo) - my chemical romance . very different from the other ones lol .

ok i listened to unpunishable and i love love loveeeeed the section after 3:30-ish . like it was soo like . metallic sounding with her vocals and the ringing guitar and it was just so everything . it made me want to write something crazy so badly, it was amazing !!! ive only heard a few songs by her but this one is definitely top three for me i think . wow

i did have . a pierce the veil phase for like fiveseconds in middle school LOL but i enjoyed this one !!! i got flashbacks to 2018 but i really did enjoy it :D i think ill always like their sound, its always so . indulgent . i did really like the bit at 2:25-3:00, i didnt even realize u commented on it LOL i was like Wow . wow . it was so so good

oh i loveee bury me in black . that entire era will b so close to my heart forever i think and its just so . good . oh my god . the brash guitar and drums are soooo . i need them permanently playing forever and ever

are u a fan of p!atd ? i think u would like them even tho i am brendon urie's biggest hater . but ryan ross ... loml . anyway . "new perspective" is so underrated and one of my favorites, very reminiscent of the 2000s pop punk scene !

also a more like . "weird" sounding song but its so so good . "girls & boys" by blur ! its one of their more popular songs but it holds up so so well

and . in honor of me purchasing a radiohead poster . i think u would love radiohead . i recommend . "just" . a popular song but i think u would absolutely enjoy it and My Bad if u have already heard it before . if u have i would not be surprised !!! i think it trended on tiktok for a second ? idk
