i just came up with this idea on the fly about 5 minutes ago but i like it better than canon so i think im gonna keep it. ruasha timeline rowan still has his memories. he still died and got resurrected, that part's unchanged, but the only memories he was missing when he came back were the plague years after gráinne died and of course his death (all of which his mind deliberately blocked out to protect him from the trauma).

reason being? wellll in my humble onion, the apprentice being a total amnesiac w no past has no bearing on portia's route (muriel's too) and is hardly ever brought up. when it is brought up it's treated like an afterthought bc unlike in the main 3's routes it adds Nothing to the actual story that's going on. so i'm not fuckin keeping it. your canon can go to hell dorian hydra im making my own.

all that aside, i also think it would make rowan and portia's relationship stronger. bonding time over fucked up childhoods and abandonment issues!! wooooo!!! plus it makes it a lot less sad when rowan never gets his lost memories back (bc remember julian never went to the hanged man's realm in this timeline either). i think he's quite frankly better off if the only thing he's forgotten is the worst years of his life wherein he had a toxic codependant fuckbuddyship with his eventual brother in law lmao

there’s this bitch i used to go to school with. she doesn’t go to the same school as me anymore, but she still refuses to be any less of a bitch. she fkn LOVES drama and loves tearing people apart, and throwing little tanties whenever people call her out. she’s your average fake-depressed, olivia rodrigo listening, Wednesday (addams) obsessed, cultural appropriating, uncreative, main character acting, horribly dressing white girl. She talks shit abt me to my friends during her extracurriculars w them. No one who knows how she is likes her, and her writing is a fking atrocity, like, it should be a crime to write that horribly. She acts like her other people’s problems are her problems. She’s so fking dumb. She literally claims to be spanish when she openly admitted that someone barely related to her MOVED to spain. That’s right. They’re not even from spain. this little bitch got butt worms at a school camp and it was fkn hilarious.

I have so much more to say about this slvt so i’ll update more sometime else 💕

Update: my for lifer bestie is going to tell her that i got the role of Wednesday addams in the school production for her reaction. she says she can play basketball but I’d probably win in a 1v1 against her (even tho I can’t play for shit 😭) she also thinks that she’s above everyone else in terms of literacy jst bc her dad works for a literary society. Literally someone said smth about ‘dorian’ last year and i made a reference to ‘the picture of dorian gray’ by Oscar Wilde and she deadass was like ‘i was gonna make that reference!!’ n i was like okay thats nice and then she was like ‘yeah my dad works in a literary society’ but in like a super condescending n pretentious way. Her singing tho like æugh 😭😭😭 her singing (if we can even call it that) sounds like out of tune bagpipes like fr my ears get so close to bleeding every time she tries. I know i switch topics a lot but just bear w me. She literally tries so hard to be Wednesday Addams (only in the show starring jenna ortega tho) like fr she cut bangs n turned up to school in braids and a black dress like miss girl 😭 she’s also like ‘omg im so much like wednesday!!’ like stfu. shes such a fkn pickme fr. Bc i have a similar skin tone n somewhat similar bangs to jenna/wednesday, people used to call me Wednesday as a joke (a lot worse bc i dress alternative) n she gives me dirty looks when someone compares me to Wednesday like its actually so funny lmao. Her humor is so dry too like the shit that comes out of that bitch’s mouth is drier than the sahara desert. Shes such a hypocrite bc shes so fkn nosy but the second i step in to stand up for a younger student, she’s like ‘stay out of it’ like bitch stay out of other people’s personal affairs first. I have a really close pianist friend and since im a violinist, i offered to play a duet w her and this bitch is like ‘oh i can sing 🥺👉👈’ no u cant 💀

Theres so much more to say but i can’t remember them rn bc shes literally done countless things its actually kinda sad how desperate she is for a crumb of attention. thx for coming cutie 💕

The Boyfriend

Dedicated to the anon who came up w this idea and to @eatacrackerandstop <3. There's a small Shadow and Bone reference; if you find it, you get a high five✨

Summary: Slytherin and Hufflepuff meet their daughter’s boyfriend for the first time, and Slytherin has a few concerns.

Hufflepuff closes the door behind her daughter, who stepped out to privately wish her boyfriend goodbye on the front stoop, and turns to Slytherin.

“He seems like a sweet kid,” she smiles. Slytherin follows her into the kitchen with a disgruntled expression. He leans against the countertop as she begins washing the dishes.

“What’s taking her so long,” he eyes the door. “It only takes a couple of seconds to say goodbye to someone.”

“They spent the entire night with us. They probably just want a little alone time,” Hufflepuff replies. She glances at him when he sighs and crosses his arms. “Do I sense a little disdain for our daughter’s boyfriend?”

Slytherin scowls.

“I don’t like him,” he states plainly. “He gives me...bad boy vibes.” His scowl deepens when she laughs incredulously.

“Bad boy vibes?”

“Yes,” he says indignantly. “Bad boy vibes! Did you see his smirk when she laughed at his joke?"

"You smirk a lot,” she points out, to which he grudgingly admits. “Besides, is it bad that he can make her laugh?"

"'Course not," he huffs. "But did you see how he put his arms around her?”

"I'm pretty sure that's called a hug, honey."

Slytherin steps between her and the sink. She shoots him a look as water drips on the floor.

“Please get out of my way, Slytherin. You’re acting like a child.”

He takes her hands into his own, not caring that they’re wet. “Honey, you’re not listening to me.”

“I am! I just don’t agree with you.” She continues before Slytherin can object. “You’re worrying over nothing. Our daughter is old enough to make her own decisions on who she hangs out with and what she does with her time."

“She’s only in her seventh year—”

“Slytherin," she says sternly. “Our baby is grown now, believe it or not. I trust her judgment. You should too.”

His brows furrow, and he doesn’t respond right away.

"It's not that I don't trust her," he finally says. "I just don't want her to get hurt."

Hufflepuff softens in this rare moment of vulnerability—his grumpiness and frustration often mask his fears.

"We can't control what happens," she says gently. "We can't control who does what or who hurts who. But what we can control is what we do and how we act." Slytherin remains silent as he considers her words. "I think the best thing we can do is support our daughter. And if things don't end well in their relationship, she will know who to come to: the people who have always been there for her."

Her words sink in, and Slytherin nods.

"You're right."

"'Course I'm right."

He smiles somberly. "I’ve only ever wanted to protect her."

"You will," she assures, pulling him into an embrace. "But you will do so at a healthy and reasonable distance. No threatening the boy."

Slytherin snorts and says, "I'm not that type of dad." He rests his chin on top of her head. "But if he breaks her heart, I keep no promises."

"Good," she murmurs into his shirt. “I'll be right behind you.”

Their moment of peace is interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and closing. They see their daughter, Giselle, standing by the doorway with a flushed grin.

"Hey kiddo," Slytherin smiles.

She makes a face. “I'm 18, Dad. I'm not a kid anymore."

"Alright." Hufflepuff notices a familiar gleam in his eye and tries not to smile as he continues. "Do you prefer muffin? Sweet pea? Or perhaps cupcake—"

Giselle covers her ears. "Dad!" she groans. "Eat a cracker and stop."

He holds his hands up in defeat as he chuckles. "Okay, okay."

"So," Hufflepuff says once things settle down. "What did Dorian think? Did he like us? What about the food? Was my cooking okay?" A look of horror washes over her face. "Oh shoot, should we have given him some leftovers to take back to his family? He probably didn't get too far, I'll go get the food from the fridge and—"

"Honey," Slytherin laughs, resting his hand on the small of her back before she can scurry off in search of tin foil and plastic containers. "It's fine."

"Yeah," Giselle assures. "The food was great, and he loved meeting you guys."

"And we loved meeting him,” Hufflepuff says warmly. “Tell Dorian he's welcome to come back at any time."

"Okay," she grins. "Can we start our movie night now?"

Slytherin nods. "I believe it's Mom's turn to choose the movie."

"I know exactly what we should watch tonight," Hufflepuff beams. They pile onto the couch, and when she puts the disc into the DVD player, everyone but Hufflepuff's face falls when they see the title.

"Aw, not this movie," Giselle complains. "We watched the trailer last week, and you said it yourself that it looked like trash."

"Wha—I didn't say trash!"

"I think you did," Slytherin interjects. He stifles a laugh when she shoots him a look.

Hufflepuff purses her lips. "Ravenclaw and I watched it at the movie theaters a few days ago, and it was a cinematic masterpiece!"

He arches an eyebrow. "So you're gonna watch it again?"

"Yes! Because it’s that good. And I want you guys to watch it with me. The movie has adventure and plot twists and romance—I mean, what hurts more than a broken heart?"

"A severed head," Giselle replies, to which Slytherin snorts a laugh.

Hufflepuff scoffs and shakes her head, but a smile tugs at her lips. “You’ll see what I’m talking about after we watch it, but I need to use the bathroom first. I’ll bring back some popcorn.”

“Can you also get some Sprite?” Giselle calls after her.

“Okay.” Hufflepuff lingers by the doorway. “Do you want anything, sweetie pie?” she says to Slytherin.

“No thanks, snuggle bunny.” He snickers when Giselle visibly cringes. He and Hufflepuff liked to call each other outrageously sweet pet names in front of their daughter for the sole purpose of grossing her out.

“Yes,” Giselle says in a deadpan voice. “This is the exact spot I want to be in right now.”

Hufflepuff laughs and winks at Slytherin before leaving. He watches her walk away before whispering to Giselle, “How likely is it that she’ll accidentally trap herself in the bathroom and we get to pick another movie?”

“Extremely likely,” she replies. “If we put a rubber item underneath the door to act as a door stopper, she won’t be able to open it from the inside…” Slytherin is looking at her weirdly, and she swallows her words. “...I mean, I don’t know.”

Slytherin smiles but doesn’t say anything. Giselle may have inherited her mother’s looks, but she has her father’s mischief.

While they wait for Hufflepuff, Slytherin speaks. “Can I ask you something personal?”

“Sure,” she says cautiously.

“Do you love him?”

Her eyebrows rise—she didn’t expect this question. She takes a moment to think.

"Not yet.”

He nods. "But you're happy?"

"I am," she smiles.

His eyes crinkle. If she was happy…well, that was good enough for him.

“I’m glad, kiddo.”

This time, Giselle doesn’t roll her eyes at the term of endearment. Instead, she takes his hand and squeezes it three times. Slytherin, who taught her the gesture, squeezes her hand four times in response.

“Who’s ready to start the movie?” Hufflepuff walks in with popcorn and sprite, unaware of the father-daughter moment she just missed.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Slytherin sighs, scooting over to make space for her. She plops down beside him and settles the bowl between them.

“Oh,” she perks up. “Before I forget. Accio tissue boxes!”

Slytherin looks bewildered as tissue boxes come flying their way. “Do we really need tissues?”

“Absolutely,” she scatters the boxes over their laps. Slytherin raises an eyebrow and glances over at Giselle, who also looks perplexed.

“My teen angst bullshit is about to have a body count,” she whispers as the movie begins playing.

A/N: This fic is somewhat connected to Different Love Languages, another one of my fics. Is the slytherpuff couple in that fic the same couple in this one? That's up to you, dear reader😌

I lowkey hate the title, but I couldn't come up w a better one. Also, this fic was longer than I planned. I originally decided to write something like this:

finally watched someone great this december at my sister’s suggestion and it made me cry!!

almost forgot that the half of it came out in 2020 but oh my god what a good fucking movie (and if you liked the half of it go watch saving face too!! alice wu is a great fucking director and saving face is one of my faves)

i’m like 90% sure i watched parasite this year? anyway it was great & i gotta watch more bong joon ho movies

i really did not watch that many movies this year huh.

oh wait fuck i forgot about the old guard & enola holmes, which ill group here together as a pair of refreshing action/adventure movies that i really enjoyed!

harlots!! on this blog we love 1) women 2) period dramas 3) charlotte wells in particular

oh i think this year i finally rewatched all of atla! i saw almost every episode as a kid (normally several times and not necessarily in order) and even tho i remembered the show really well it was really cool to see it altogether! and find out i had missed watching TWO whole episodes as a kid

great pretender, but i mostly just liked the first season. fucking gorgeous show overall tho even if it kinda loses its balance thematically in the last arc

the priory of the orange tree by samantha shannon!! yes this book is like 800 pages yes i did read half of it in like a week. i also didnt realize there was gonna be so many gays goin in and boy was i extremely pleasantly surprised

obligatory inclusion of a reading i did for class, but la vida es sueño by calderón de la barca honestly kinda kicks ass, i did a whole paper on one the soliloquies in there and the verse is just good y’all

oh also gender trouble by judith butler which i read a good bit of for my theory class and lives rent free in my brain at this point

and i moved across the country and live in an apartment now! and i have so many plants! and a full size bed! and a desk and a bookshelf!

oh shit i almost forgot this was the year i finally got an adhd diagnosis! and now im all medicated and shit its fucking amazing

and i’ve started writing a lot more! not just papers for class and stuff, but also some more fiction which maybe i’ll actually finish one day lmao

god okay i info dumped on discord bc thats just who i am as a person so i’m cross posting it here in case anyone else is curious about my canon world state. under a read more bc its, uh, maybe a bit of a monster.

i've got a dummy complex worldstate for no reason other than i like to make things difficult for the sake of a good story i guess. for origins my canon warden is an apostate, ellanis tabris who in an 'accident' had his leg crushed and it never recovered, causing it to have stunted growth. he uses a cane to get around and his disability helped hide him in the denerim alienage since apostacy is probably one of if not the most dangerous crime for an elf.

he's only one of three, though. his best friends growing up are noure surana and attie nehrios. noure gets taken to the circle when they're 17 (and ellanis and attie are 15) and comes into play a bit later, while attie is a seamstress and budding red jenny.

as far as origins itself goes ellanis' canon route is deep roads - dalish - haven - redcliff - circle - redcliff. fairly standard stuff up until haven/broken circle tbh. in haven during the guardian's first trial instead of shianni ellanis sees noure (whom the alienage presumed dead when arrested bc it wasn't, ah, a clean arrest) as the ghosty thing and during broken circle ellanis finds noure again and 'conscripts' them into the wardens. really he just takes them with him and destroys their phylactery so they won't be followed. (noure's phylactery is stored in kinloch instead of the spire after their fourth escape attempt since it gave them too much of a head start to make the templars wait to get it) theres a lot of Feelings surrounding connor but other than that ellanis doesn't super change things there either. he does, however, not have any idea about the dr. which is the biggest break i have from canon in dao with the exception of my inclusion of More City Elves. instead of morrigan going to ellanis she, as his best friend, knows he'll refuse to do it and instead goes straight to alistair. morrigan actually never tells ellanis anything about the ritual, ever.

during unrest in the alienage ellanis meets up with attie again, who is already working to clear the slavers out herself, and she falls head over heels for morrigan pretty quickly. fast enough that when morrigan sets out on her 'nobody follow me' thing attie does anyways bc thats just who attie is as a person. and besides she can't stay in denerim now that she's maybe or not killed a nobleman for what happened during the wedding.

and now its awakening time

ellanis meets up with anders for the first time and through him learns a bit more about noure's time in the circle. (noure and anders and karl were lovers for roughly three years before shit hit the fan hard) and fuck canon here because ellanis doesn't have time for this. plus the architect is interesting and yah maybe insane but he's in the place for a little madness. ellanis lets him live and strikes a bargain with him, they share research and any ferelden wardens who prefer to answer their calling not by fighting darkspawn but by potentially furthering the cure are welcomed by the architect. but after awakening ellanis leaves vigils keep in nate's hands and goes on 'offical leave' to work on his own cure..... and to live in antiva with zevran...... lkjkjlkjkjkj

noure, after broken circle and during awakening, goes to nevarra via orlais. it takes them a couple of months to settle but noure finds viuus (yes that viuus) who takes them on as an apprentice of sorts bc he's also in a bit of a jam. it works, sorta, noure learns more spirit based magic and reconnects with a part of themselves the circle tried to beat out of them. it only lasts for about two years, though, because templars find them, one a recent transfer from kinloch and noure isn't exactly a forgettable face. so!

well, its around the same time that anders leaves the wardens for good. and ellanis puts anders in touch with noure. they decide to meet in kirkwall, because rumor has it that's where karl is and thats gonna be the place they need to go first.

attie though, she's just hanging out with morrigan and stirring the pot in orlais as a jenny. she also works with the mage underground and defo either knows or works with briala as a kind of agent. her story is more foggy tho bc i haven't read Super much of TME or played some of witch hunt

da2 comes in and i've Recently, like as of last week i think, decided to swap my canon hawkes. william is now my canon hawke instead of the twins. he's an apostate who's magic is mostly clairvoyancy and a shepherd.. or he was until the blight. bethany dies during the escape and its only the Beginning of the sad times for william.

with his pretty suble magic william makes for a Superb smuggler, and lands the gig with bartrand quickly. he Also, gets a bit of a crush on varric while they're still going around raising money. he takes carver, varric, and isabela with him to the deep roads thinking that keeping his brother close will be safer. and, well, it isn't.

act ii is a bunch of horse shit anyways but william tries to keep out of things until isabela is directly threatened by it and only then steps in seriously. for the most part all of the things which go down with petrice are done with noure and anders. they don't like the qunari being in town either but they, at least, can use the situation to weaken the chantry and by extension the circle. even if its only a bit. during act iii the two of them build up the mage underground and start preparing to take direct action against the circle. william is, still uncertain but he doesn't stop them. his magic has never been a large danger to himself, it's suble enough and under control enough that he's never really had to fear templars. he feared them for his fathers sake, for bethany's sake, but not his own. not really. and well, we know how da2 ends but i hate the retcon of 'hundres of casualties' bithc! where! so no, only the grand cleric and a handful of upper level chantry people where inside when it went up and they deserved it.

ellanis is working on the blight cure during this time and makes it far enough that he and zev are surprised by twins (two girls named adaia and killian) but otherwise ellanis is mostly chillin in antiva

while attie is now definitely working closely with briala both as a jenny and as an agent

and we’re up to dai with my canon quizzy - da'ean lavellan, the clan storykeeper (next in line after his father) who only attends the conclave because idrilla was going to first and they didn't want to loose the clan first. i've got... way more canon deviance in dai than anywhere else bc dai Suxxs but its way too long but basically!

da'ean romances both dorian and the iron bull bc im poly and i said so, idrilla comes to skyhold as magical advisor and she works where morrigan does in the game (tho morrigan still shows up she's not an offical position as much, which suits her and attie just fine). linayel, da'ean's nas'falon (qp) arrives with her and he slots in as an archery trainer.

plus, ellanis is the warden contact instead of the many (some really wild??) canon contacts. leliana tries to contact him to be quizzy but he's travelling and misses it, and when noure contacts him on william's behalf and mentions corypheus (ellanis knows about legacy bc william brought noure and anders along) ellanis puts some pieces together and comes to skyhold. he'd already been working to figure out the weird calling (it is and yet isn't the same as the blight he remembered) so he's already a bit aware of the situation. william doesn't stick around for long, basically just long enough to get confirmation ellanis is on his way. even tho he misses varric this isn't his place

adamant goes down wicked different bc ellanis is the fucking HOF. by this time he's developed his magic enough he can pretty much take down all of the wardens within a good 300 foot range just nearly instantly. (a combination of his blight cure research and his natural entropic aligned magic hohohoho) so he makes it to clarel Fast. instead of falling into the fade ellanis (anyone else remember just fucking punching rifts closed in awakening? lol) works with da'ean to open up the rift in the main courtyard and suck the nightmare into the real world. and then he fuckin annhilates it bc he can

WEWH is also different but this time its bc of attie (and morrigan's different now too bc she's been dragged into things by her wife) briala's at the palace yeah, but now she's also got attie waiting in the wings. instead of getting stuck in place by the quizzy attie is able to manuever things to implicate gaspard and celene alone (mostly bc i hate the blackmail on briala it just doesn't vibe well with her character to me). so instead of the shitty options of 'gaspard rules with briala shadowing him' or 'celene and briala end up back together' its 'celene gets put in place by briala and now briala calls the shots'

idrilla romances solas, and as a dreamer she's sure something is fishy but can't figure out what exactly. (until trespasser that is, when she figures it out at the murals) but she provides a good foil to his asshatry and as offical magical advisor steers the inquisition with morrigan's info about the arbor wilds. she knows the rituals and the magic bc she's first and they make it through far faster than in canon, making a quick alliance with the sentinals and beating samson well before the canon battle area.

(linayel romances cass but their story is still quiet and vague as of yet but linayel mostly remains in skyhold to help train and strategize)

then da'ean kicks corypshits ass soundly becase that fight Sucks Ass.

Like, the inquisitor gets the rite removed and they immediately run to hug (tackle) their old friend, crying, but with the biggest, doofiest grin on their face and starts rambling about how much they missed them? Dorian: He’d been working with Cassandra whenever he had free time. He was furious at the Seekers, furious that Cassandra didn’t think to tell him that there was a possibility that he could cure the Rite of Tranquility for his friend. Eventually he simmered down and decided the only way to speed up this process was to work with her on it. Maker he’s nervous. He feels like he has a swarm of butterflies in his stomach and he’s trying to keep himself composed as Cassandra tries the cure on the Inquisitor. With Corypheus defeated they’ve finally had the time to relax and work on it. Dorian bites his bottom lip nervously and waits. It feels like it takes forever but before Dorian even has a chance to ask the Inquisitor how they feel he’s tackled. The wind rushes out of him but he’s laughing. His friend is laughing! Dorian can’t help the rush of tears that start trickling down his cheeks and he just hugs them close for a long time. It’s an odd sort of reunion. They’ve been reunited since Dorian joined the Inquisition but now it’s like they finally are. Before the Inquisitor was emotionless. They were glad to see Dorian again but they was all. They didn’t feel joy or excitement, nor the want to ask him what happened since they were gone, but now it was all flooding them. The two sit up and The Inquisitor is still laughing and crying as well, their cheeks red as they keep wiping the tears away. Maker it feels so good to be able to cry again. Dorian just grins and wipes his own tears, “You’ve made me ruin my mascara.” He jokes as he rubs his eyes, now looking a bit like a raccoon. It’s hard to explain really. The Inquisitor had been his best friend, someone he could trust with everything, someone he first came out to back in Tevinter and yes he’d had them during the Inquisition but it was like having a shadow of the person he once knew. But now they were back and they were grinning. They still had that scar but it was faded, just a memory. “Maker we have so much to talk about but I think it might be best if we get some wine and go somewhere comfortable.” He grins. The Inquisitor nods and gives him another hug. Normally Dorian’s not much of a touchy person but damn he’s missed his friend. “It’s good to have you back.”

Solas: Cassandra never really shared what she had learned about the Seekers or the Rite of Tranquility, not until she thought she was close to a cure for the Rite. He feels excitement and hope for his friend. He still can’t get over his anger that his friend had been forced to undergo the Rite. He can think of nothing that would ever make that just a possibility for someone to go through. He wishes Cassandra luck and tells her to let him know when she thinks she has the cure for it ready. Then the day comes and it’s so bitter sweet. They are so close to defeating Corypheus and Solas knows that once they do he must leave. That hasn’t happened yet thought and he wants to be sure that his friend is okay. Solas walks to the room to check in on how it’s going only to be tackled. He lets out a laugh of surprise to see that familiar grin and get another big hug. He blushes slightly before hugging them back and holding them close. There is still a scar but it is faded and in time it might disappear completely. “It is good to have you back.” He murmurs. The Inquisitor just grins, “It’s good to see you out of the Fade.” They have a lot to catch up on. Solas takes the Inquisitor to his room and has some tea made. It’s actually a kind that he likes this time. While they talk time seems nonexistent. Solas tells them about what he’s learned of the fade, the new spirits he befriended in the Inquisitor’s absence. The Inquisitor asks questions about everything that happened. They remember it quite clearly, but its the first time they get to process it emotionally. By the end of their talk the sun is coming up and the Inquisitor is exhausted. They smile at their old friend, “We should journey through the fade again soon. I might be a tad rusty.” That grants a chuckle from the elf. “Soon. You do need your rest though. I’m sure undoing the Rite took a lot of your mana.”

Vivienne: She had done some research into what had caused her old friend to receive the Right. It wasn’t some terrible crime to Vivienne’s relief. When Cassandra tells her that she’s learned the secrets of the Seeker’s Vivienne’s quite intrigued. She can’t believe that there’s actually a cure to the Rite. She works with Cassandra to make sure that this cure isn’t going to make it worse or backfire. When this gets out, that Tranquil can be cured, there is going to be a lot of debate, a lot of questions. They need to be sure it actually works before going public. The Inquisitor actually volunteers to be the first to undergo the cure. Their logic is that with Corypheus defeated and their knowledge in the arcane they would be a great asset in helping research the cure. Vivienne isn’t opposed to it but she is worried about her friend. If it goes wrong she won’t have them anymore. The day comes when it’s time to test the cure. Vivienne hides her nerves well but her hands are shaking as she helps Cassandra. It’s over as soon as it started and she watches the Inquisitor nervously, waiting for them to wake up. When they do they rub their head and look around confused before breaking into tears. It’s a good sign! Vivienne moves to their side and holds their hand only to be pulled into a big bear hug. She lets out a noise of surprise and hesitates before hugging the Inquisitor back just as tight. They have a lot to catch up on and as soon as the Inquisitor can compose themself Vivienne leads them back to their chamber so they can talk.

Blackwall: He really doesn’t understand magic. He knows it can be useful, but it can also be dangerous and make things worse. What he does know is his friend, a kid who was so sweet they wouldn’t even kill a little spider was wrongfully made Tranquil. Then Cassandra starts talking about a way to reverse it to cure the Rite of Tranquility and honestly he doesn’t understand what she’s saying so he stops her to clarify and it makes his heart sore. It means his friend gets a second chance just like they gave him. Honestly Blackwall never expected his friend to just… let him go to get him out of the Orlais prison but they did. They explained it was because they needed him for the Inquisition and it was best to give him a second chance so that he could continue saving lives while atoning for his past sins. That explanation was given in a cold and emotionless tone but it still meant the world to Blackwall. Now his friend could really get their life back. Cassandra explained that it would probably not be perfect, that they would sometimes feel in over their head and Blackwall swore to himself that he would help his friend through this. He gets called in when the Rite is over. He calls their name cautiously. The response he gets is a surprisingly strong bear hug. IT makes him grin and he hugs them back just as tight, “Maker you really had me worried there.” He laughs and helps them stand. “What you need now is to tell me everything. I know you’ve been doing inquisition talk but we should really catch up… I’ve got some explaining to do too.” The Inquisitor nods and just grins again. It feels like a dream. Their smiling again and laughing. If it is a dream he doesn’t want to wake up. It’s just so nice to have something from his past be good again and not something he wants to cover up.

Iron Bull: The more time Bull spends in the Inquisition the more he begins to understand about mages. It also makes him feel bad for his friend. Being Tranquil sounds like shit. He still feels bad for his friend though. When Bull goes Tal Vashoth he is shocked. The Inquisitor could have and should have told him to sacrifice the chargers, but they were still so gentle even with all of their emotions suppress. They said that it would have been illogical to sacrifice the Chargers just for one supply of red lyrium. They could come back with more people and still take care of it. It takes a bit of getting used to, the idea of being Vashoth but then again he realizes it’s not different from how he was already living. The only difference being that he doesn’t report to the Qun. He knows his friend is still in their head too, just emotionless right now, so he starts asking around, seeing if any of his contacts know something about getting ride of the Rite of Tranquility. He doesn’t really have to go far before Cassandra shares her findings with him. He’s thrilled and nervous at the same time. It’s gonna be an adjustment period if it works, but hey Bull will be there to help. It’s not like the Inquisitor would be going through it alone. With the Inquisitor’s permission the do what needs to be done to cure the Rite. Bull keeps rubbing his hands nervously. He doesn’t need to wait long though. When the Inquisitor wakes up they gasp and get overwhelmed, tearing up. Bull quickly goes to their side only to be pulled into the tightest hug. He grins and just holds them close. “Hey… it’s okay. We’ve got your back okay? We’ll help ya get through this.” The Inquisitor nods and just gives him a big grin.

Cassandra: As soon as she learns of the cure to the Rite of Tranquility she throws herself into work for it. She wants her friend back, even though that sounds selfish she knows now that the Rite is something horrible, something that no one should be forced to go through. Especially not someone who just simply wouldn’t be able to pass their harrowing. She nearly works herself to the bone when she’s sure she’s figured out how to do it. She tells the Inquisitor what they’ve done and lets them decide. “I understand the risks Cassandra. I think I should undergo the cure. Even if I become irrational and emotional you can help guide me back. You need someone to try the cure on so it might as well be me. When the cure is complete Cassandra is at the Inquisitor’s side nervously, watching and waiting for any sign that it worked. They begin to wake up. They’re quiet for a moment before grinning and tearing up. They get up on shaky legs and just hold Cassandra close, “You did it… you really did it Cas!” Cassandra feels her own eyes get a bit misty too. She smiles and holds her friend close. “We have a lot to talk about.”

Varric: “So let me get this straight, the Seekers actually knew the cure to the Rite of Tranquility this whole time and never told anyone?” “Yes.” “And you found out because you took the secret book or whatever?” “Yes. “And now you think you can cure the Inquisitor?” “Yes.” “But they’re probably going to be overwhelmed by emotions for a while and not the stablest of people?” “Yes, Varric what don’t you understand about this?” “Oh nothing I just needed to make sure my ears were working Seeker.” He grins. He never thought he’d hear the words cure to the Rite of Tranquility. Oh he wants to do it. He wants to help his friend out, but first he needs to be sure its what they want too. It’s not like they’re just a guinea pig, they’re still a person. Thankfully Varric and Cassandra get their permission. It’s hard for Varric to hide how excited he is. Look it’s been years since something from his past actually had a chance at turning out well. Besides no one deserves to get stuck emotionless, especially not the sweet street kid who’d work for extra coin just to be able to put out food scraps and milk for the stray cats of Kirkwall. Varric may hang out around a bunch of magic users but he’s never going to understand it. When the cure is finished he watched the Inquisitor rub their head and start to take deep breaths. They look a bit overwhelmed but then they start laughing and grinning and it makes Varric smile. He goes over to hug them and they squeeze him close. He laughs and pats their back, “Too tight!” “Sorry Varric I just… it’s really nice to see you old friend.” Varric understands what they mean. They have been reunited since the Inquisition, but up until just now the Inquisitor couldn’t feel, didn’t understand the emotional significance of finally seeing each other again. “It’s great seeing you too. Now c’mon I think there are a few strays around that might help you with the emotions thing.” He wants to give the Inquisitor something good, something to help with the mountain of stress they’ll no doubt be feeling. He also just wants to catch up and see them happy.

Cole: The way Cassandra worded the cure made it confusing to him. When she words it differently it makes more sense. So, she can help his friend start feeling again. Cole thinks it will be good for them. Sometimes he feels bad that the Inquisitor cannot experience the joy in seeing a moth flutter through the stars and land next to them, or the happiness of getting one of the first cookies from the kitchen. He knows that they feel unease too. Their mind tells them they should be feeling, that something is missing in everything they do but they just can’t reach it. It’s just out of their grasp and this cure is going to give it to them. Cassandra also explains how this will most likely cause the Inquisitor to become irrational and lose some control. It’s understandable. Reopening that gate after all of these years will be like releasing a flood gate after a storm. Cole wants to help though, he will help. He’s good at helping with pain. When the Cure has been completed Cole enters the room. He can feel so many emotions coming from the Inquisitor. When they look at him they feel a wave of sadness at first, remembering the Cole they had known in their past died at the hands of the Templars, then they feel anger, but it melts away into a sort of happy sad mix. Cole gasps as suddenly the Inquisitor is hugging him tightly and it makes him happy. He hugs them back and closes his eyes. “This is nice.” He states and they give a soft laugh. “It really is.”

Sera: She’s not gonna lie she’s a bit scared at first when she hears Cassandra talking about curing the Rite of Tranquility. Don’t get her wrong it would be great to have her prankin buddy back but it’s gonna be dangerous too. Cassandra saying that the Inquisitor might be a mess and out of control afterwards doesn’t help too much either. It takes her a while to come around to the idea. What seals it for her is thinking about what if she was made Tranquil. What if she couldn’t feel. It would suck so much and her friend has been like that for years! She wants her friend to be able to laugh again seein the bees get all bumbly and bump into flowers, or really enjoy cookies… or just… just havin that friend to curl up again when the world was all shitty and Sera just wanted someone to tell her it’d be alright and give her a big smile. Okay so maybe that last bit was selfish but… whatever. They make sure Inky’s alright with it first of course. Sera can’t help but pace as she waits for Cassandra to tell her if it worked or not. Finally the door opens but it’s not Cassandra. Sera lets out a noise of surprise as she’s tackled by a hug and then she grins. Cassandra’s a bit to shut off to pull something like that so that only means- “Holy shit it worked! Oh no you’re cryin what’s wrong?” They laugh and wipe their eyes, “Nothin’s wrong I just… It worked and I’m so happy! Sera I missed you so much.” “Awe… I missed you too. I mean you were here… Gah you know what I mean ya dork.” Sera laughs and gives them another hug. “C’mon we got lots to talk about and I gotta show you some new pranks I’ve been thinking of!”

Josephine: She feels selfish for wanting the Inquisitor to get the cure. She is delighted by the news of course, but it’s the Inquisitor’s choice. Honestly she doesn’t want to get her hopes up. It would be wonderful to have her old friend back, but this is the first any of them have ever heard of a cure to the Rite. So when Cassandra tells her that the Inquisitor agreed to undergo the cure Josephine feels a mix of emotions. She’s happy and nervous and scared and excited all at the same time. She needs to keep herself composed though. This is going to be very nerve wracking for her old friend no doubt and she doesn’t want to make it worse by looking nervous. Josie keeps herself from hoping for too much, so when she’s tackle hugged by her friend she can’t help but giggle and start tearing up. They are laughing, maker she hasn’t heard that laugh since she was a girl. They spend the rest of the night catching up over tea and some baked goods. Josie can’t stop hugging her old friend. She knows it’s going to be an adjustment for the Inquisitor and a hard one. Josephine is going to do everything in her power to help them and make sure they have everything they need.

Cullen: Cullen can scarcely believe his ears when Cassandra tells him about the cure. For as long as he’s been a Templar he never even thought it possible, yet there it was in writing. He doesn’t want to get his hopes up. There are a lot of risks and even if it does work the Inquisitor is probably going to be unstable with the rush of emotions. It’s not going to be a perfect fix. He knows that. He can’t get his hopes up… but he can’t help it. He desperately wants his friend back, he wants this Rite gone. He wants them to be okay. He can’t help but feel it’s his fault that they ended up Tranquil. He knows it’s not but the thought still haunts him. He helps Cassandra set up the Cure as best as he can. He helps prepare the Inquisitor for it as well. They want to do it because if it works they can use that knowledge to help the next tranquils who undergo it actually deal with the after affects. Even without emotions they’re always thinking of others before themself. The cure seems like it’s taking hours. Cullen keeps pacing and running a hand through his hair, so much so that it’s no longer neatly pulled back and a few curls are falling in his face. Finally Cassandra tells him it should be done. He goes to the Inquisitor’s side quickly and waits, almost holding his breath with how nervous he is. They start to wake up and a look of shock crosses their face, followed by that oh so familiar grin. Cullen laughs happily, feeling tears in his eyes and before he can say anything they’re hugging him close. They talk for a while. They both have a hard road in front of them, but they promise to be there for each other. Cullen can’t believe its actually happening. It feels like a dream and then the Inquisitor pinches him. “See not a dream! Okay now pinch me to though I want to be double sure.” He laughs but does it before giving them another hug. It feels like getting his family back and it’s… wonderful.

Leliana: She’s an expert at hiding her emotions. When Cassandra tells her of her findings from the Seekers book she nods. Leliana helps Cassandra find whatever ingredients and components this cure will take. She has so few friends left and if she could even get the Inquisitor feeling again that would be enough. She doesn’t expect them to be the same or even happy. So much has happened. So much has changed. The Inquisitor has so much riding on them and Leliana… well she’s not the same girl they once knew. When the cure has been completed Leliana enters the room. She looks at Cassandra for any sort of sign of confirmation but doesn’t get one. It doesn’t bode well initially but she’s brought out of her thoughts as she receives a swift hug with enough force to tackle her to the ground. Then she begins to smile as she hears the Inquisitor laughing above her. The hug is so familiar and soon she’s hugging them back. “I…” She gets interrupted. “I can’t believe you guys found a cure… I… this changes everything.” Leliana gets hugged again. She lets her guard down ever so slightly around the Inquisitor now and when they talk she can’t help but smile. She has her agents keep an eye on the Inquisitor and instructs them to let her know if the Inquisitor seems to be having a bad moment. Leliana is going to help her friend. Nothing is going to take them from her, and they aren’t going to go through this alone.

Firstly , god damn that was a rollercoaster of hardcore battle , like seriously

The forging of the lock... idk the scene of aelin kinda flying across worlds gave me shivers, and even though I haven’t read acortar or whatever , it’s kinda made me want to read them now, it was so beautifully written

Tell ya who the queen of slow burn is, SJM like god damn that woman, yeh we god elide and Lorcan(obvs) but freakin Lysandra and aedion , I’m kinda still starved for content like, ik aedion was pissed but still a lot of the dialogue between the two of them was Lysandra feeling like shit

LYSANDRA WAS UNDER APPRECIATED JEEZ

aelin- 10/10 character development, Sarah kinda broke her down and built her back up again, from a cocky arrogant queen (who I adored) to a kind, almost wise still cocky queen

Was it just me who thought rowan and the cadre and elide finding her was kinda... anticlimactic... yeh rowan skinned that douchebag alive but still. I felt sjm could have done it more justice

Dorian and manon my little cuties honest to god, their scenes were awesome, manon found her humanity

Crochans were awesome, but like obviously they were important but we didn’t really find out much about them if that makes sense ?

Maeve was an absolute bitch, her death was kinda anticlimactic, but my main boi fenrys got to have one of the killing blows which was pretty cool

Sartaq and neseryn was awesome as per usual, but I kinda wanted there to be more interaction between them and the other characters , but then again they were just their so we could get birds eye view of battle and also the dam which was freakin awesome like that was really cool , there was an impending threat that wasn’t maeve or erwan

Rowan didn’t really give aelin more time which kinda pissed me off like yeh , he was wary In a worrying way for the couple of chapters in the boat and caves but still.

It was fenrys that honestly just took my mind away, the communication whilst my main girly was getting tortured by the dickhead. That was really cool the way that was written, 11/10 maas for keeping that going throughout the book dammmn

Ik it was a battle but WHERE TF WAS FLEETFOOT , yeh she was mentioned which means she was safe and yeh she was sleepy on the floor , but I wanted her to take a bite outta someone for nehmia

Aelin still kinda has her power to remind herself and everyone what she had to do to save their world

Ngl I felt kinda sorry for maeve when she wasn’t plotting and scheming , yeh she’s the evil lady that tortured aelin for months, mentally and physically, but she genuinely just wanted to escape from her husband and brothers

Sorry but who TF were those random wolf fae/ humans like heya they saved their asses but I’ve never heard of the wolf tribe before unless I’m being stupid lol

So ummmm Dorian and shapeshift? What can’t that kid do 🤨 but his and chaols reunion was the best like I almost cried , they found each other again, the boys are backkkk

Chaol and yrene didn’t have that many chapters tbf, and when we saw them it was kinda a couple of pages and that’s it each couple of chapters, like I would have liked to have seen more interaction with other characters

Chaols dad didn’t turn out to be as much of a massive dickkk whooooooooop but still I wanted to meet terrin and his mum. Like how cool would that have been if terrin used his diplomatic skills to make the wild men fight for them, like we could’ve had some more character development from chaol who would have faced the bad aspects of his past with the good ones

Sjm could definitely do another series idk she’s kinda set it up like she could write tonnes more on it , but I’m mmm guessing theirs gonna be some more storytelling aspects to the guide book next year than we thought

THE ENDING OMG THE ORIGINAL TRIO WAS BACK AND THEY ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGED EACH OTHER IN THE BEST WAY LIKE CHAOL WAS CRYING DORIAN WAS SOBBING AELIN WAS JUST KINDA GLAD THAT NONE OF THEM HAD DIED. However wtf was chaol going about them seeing each other again.? I’m expecting yrene and chaol and Dorian to be all up in Terresan for yulemas etc, aelin and Dorian better send each other books

and im actually gonna answer for their original Fable timeline bc ive been feelin nostalgic recently

Their physical weak spots

Logan - depends on his age and/or stress-levels. He has a fair amount of upper body strength from swinging twin swords around all the fucking time, but it wouldn’t be ridiculously hard to overpower him if you could disarm and get hold of him - however, he’s fast, agile and extremely skilled, and it’s getting hold of him in the first place that’s the issue. In the middle of his reign, on the other hand, his body condition takes a dramatic dive - he’s pretty severely underweight and loses a lot of his muscle tone, and it really wouldn’t take much at all to best him.

Lucius - Lucius is a big, heavy mercenary who fights with a broadsword, so it’s hard to get the best of him in a one-to-one melee fight. However, he’s missing his left eye and is deaf in his left ear - subsequently if you use a little bit of stealth and come at him hard and fast from the left, you’ve got a pretty good chance of getting the jump on him. He’s also into middle-age and despite having decent reactions, a younger man of the same build as him might just pip him to the post.

Their emotional/moral weak spots

Logan - oh god lmao. Logan’s a mess, but his primary emotional weak spot is his siblings - be they his original two (hey queenie and dorian) or Morgan. I think he feels a bond that’s closer to paternal than fraternal, and I think the only way he can really justify to himself the pain he puts them through is telling himself he’s doing it for them. ok honestly, he will do fucking anything for them. at the climax of the revolution, the primary thought running through his head is how fucking proud he is. be nice if he said it out loud every once a while - hell, itd be nice if he’d just asked for some fuckin help before causing the literal death of hundreds of people - but yknow. thats just going one step too far i guess

Lucius - he’s a bleeding heart. when Morgan and his little band of rebels rock up in the Dweller village, Lucius is already there running supplies up and down the mountain to them; he watches way too many kids starve to death, and joins up with the rebels in order to lead them through Mourningwood. then he gets a crush on morgan’s little bitch face and just like. never leaves lmao. He’s easily blinded by injustice and gets worked up really quickly when he sees wrong being done - it can lead him to act recklessly or thoughtlessly at times.

Scars or painful spots

Logan - asides from the obvious scars across his lips (fencing wounds when he was a boy), he took some nasty damage from the Crawler during the three days he was trapped in the Auroran cave - he’s got a network of scars on his back that look a little like lashmarks. they hurt when they’re touched and he Does Not talk about them. he’s also got a few other scars here and there on his arms and chest from miscellaneous scraps and scuffles, and he has a deep puncture scar on his abdomen from an assassination attempt, but the less said about those the better.

Lucius - lmao Lucius is literally missing half his face to scar-tissue. he was attacked by a dog as a boy and it left him heavily messed-up. he’s also a merc, as i said, so he’s got a lot of miscellaneous old wounds but nothing quite as obvious as the ones his face.

Best places to kiss on their body

Logan - oh, the neck, bitch. he’s also kind of a slut for being kissed on the insides of his wrists; anywhere vulnerable, basically. if you could kill him there, kiss him there. freak-ass bitch.

Lucius - dude just likes a nice traditional french kiss man nothing crazy. but also definitely give him a blowjob. i know this question said kissing but lets be real thats kind of a kiss.

Guilty pleasures

Logan - he reads really terrible novels. like…really terrible. he pretends he’s reading something highbrow and intellectual but its actually a shitty romance recovered with something suitably acceptable and nobody can know

Lucius - he doesnt have any ‘guilty’ pleasures tbh, he just enjoys stuff unashamedly. he’s too thick to feel guilty

Logan - not only does he not have any, but you would also die for trying. Elrick disagrees.

Lucius - his ribs, but he is uncontrollably violent when he’s tickled so its a real good way to get a broken nose. he doesn’t mean to do it, he just spasms.

Bad memories/experiences

Logan - lmao. I’ll skip the most obvious (the 3-Day Auroran Extravaganza) because i think that goes without saying - it left him with crippling PTSD and damaged his mind heavily and insidiously. he was already pretty traumatised by his childhood and i think being forced into so many responsibilities so young also messed him up a little. it’s more like….rather one one or two specific experiences, its more just a general feeling of Bad that has stuck with him throughout his life. It was worsened by his later experiences, and essentially primed him for failure.

Lucius - yknow i was thinking about how to word the answer to this question and i realised that i accidentally made Lucius into Batman. His family farm was attacked and burnt to the ground by bandits when he was about 12; his parents and siblings were killed, and he only escaped by hiding in the coal-cellar. Later, he joined up with the mercenaries to try and track down the group that targeted them. fuck hes batman. i didnt mean to batman

Humiliating memories

Logan - oh man his father was a pro at humiliation. mistakes or oversights werent just punished, they were fuckin learned from, and he figured the best way to do this was humiliation - generally through public displays of What You Did Wrong and repeated recitations of the mistake in front of the people whose opinions Logan valued. It was kind of the catalyst for his inferiority complex and intense desire to succeed without input from others.

Lucius - again, Lucius doesn’t really experience embarrassment - he’s kind of too laid-back for it. yes, it was embarrassing the one time he fell over carrying two milk buckets and threw them all over himself in front of the handsome boy from the next farm over and the guy started laughing at him but like. you live and learn and the dude turned out to have a really ugly laugh anyway so who cares

Fears/phobias

Logan - he’s always had claustrophobia, but after the Auroran Experience this intensifies to a whole new level, and he also develops crippling nyctophobia. part of this is due to his hallucinatory psychosis - he sees things pretty much constantly, but it worsens in low lighting - but it’s also due to the fact that there may very well be actual Things in the dark and he struggles to tell reality from hallucination

Lucius - dogs. fuckin dogs. he hates dogs theyre literally so scary even the small ones bc the small ones move so quick and you never know when theyre gonna come at you

Bad or petty habits

Logan - oh, he’s just a petty bitch. he’s also outwardly arrogant, even if his internal feelings don’t match up to that. drily sarcastic, too, tho a person only really sees that when they get past the walls he throws up - Elrick is very familiar with it.

Lucius - he’s constantly standing to the right-hand side of people and then he wonders why he cant hear them properly

Grudges and vendettas

Logan - he’d hold a grudge against his father if he wasnt dead. he also holds a pretty heavy grudge against Theresa for not just fucking telling him.

Lucius - at first, only against the bandits that killed his family, but once he deals with them hes kind of at a loss as to where to go next. fortunately Logan starts starving people shortly afterwards, so if nothing else it gives him a kickstart into the rest of his life. Subsequently, Lucius will hold a vendetta against Logan for the rest of his life, even after he has been in a relationship with Morgan for years - he will never forgive him for the shit he put the common people through, and he doesnt really give a shit about the ~pressures~ Logan was under at the time. fuckin excuses, man.

Ingrained habits/forces of habit

Logan - his terrible sleeping/eating patterns. even before trauma and night-terrors made it almost impossible for him to sleep peacefully, he didn’t get more than 5 or 6 hours a night, if that.

Lucius - if something is smaller than him, he’ll protect it. he’ll also protect things bigger than him, if given half the chance. hes basically a golden retriever in human form, which is ironic considering his feelings about dogs.

What it takes to make them cry

Logan - would rather die than cry, quite literally.

Lucius - his heart is softer than butter, he’ll cry at anything. he’ll cry at an injured pigeon on the street.

Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’

Logan - never, ever, ever talks about what happened in Aurora. The details die with him.

Lucius - he doesn’t really have any - he’s not ashamed of much in his life, and he’s never done anything terrible enough to render it a skeleton.

People they’ve hurt or indirectly killed, and how it affected them

Logan - L M A O. yes, it affected him terribly, but tbqh however much its affected him kind of plays second fiddle to how much his actions affected other people.

Lucius - has killed a lot of people who deserved it during his mercenary years, and justifies it to himself by being absolutely certain that they did deserve it. sometimes he doubts this, though, and that doubt plays a big part in his eventually getting out of the game entirely

People who’ve influenced them greatly

Logan - Walter, tho he’ll never admit it in a million years and he still definitely kneecapped him right at the start of the game so idk what that says about him

Lucius - Morgan. it’s real gay, i know, but there it is.

Ela’s been having vivid nightmares that are starting to feel far too real when the companions she has in the nightmares appear in her real life. She thought it was supposed to be the other way around! Part One

“So, Ela my dear, Bull has told me that you’re having a bit of a problem with nightmares, lately,” Dorian said. The group was back at the man’s flat and it wasn’t nearly as posh as his demeanor. Apparently, his salary from the police department didn’t cover much past his fancy clothes and mustache wax, given the sparse furnishings and empty fridge.

“Bull!” Ela said. She absolutely did not stomp her foot.

“It’s a magic problem; it’s gonna need a magical solution,” The Iron Bull said, mildly.

Sera blew a loud raspberry with enough spit flying out of her mouth that Dorian visibly flinched. Sera rolled her eyes and said, “Everything’s a mage problem nowadays. S’long as they keep the pipes warm, they’re doing all the magic I need.” “Before the Solidification-” Dorian began. “That’s fuckin’ right. Before the Soldyficyton, magic was the source a’ everyone’s problems. Now, we might as well be livin’ under the Stone for the magic we gotta deal with.” Dorian looked equal parts offended and charmed by Sera’s interruption and continued on as if she hadn’t said anything. “Nightmares like Bull described were a clear harbinger of demon possession. Now, they’re about as bad as it gets, except for the little part where you’re not a mage. Unless you are. Officially speaking, I wouldn’t know, of course, but it’s relevant.” Ela crossed her arms over her chest and her mouth curled into a sour pout. “No, I’m not a mage.” “She doesn’t need a mage, she needs a great golden cock,” Sera said. Dorian repeated each word slowly. “Great golden cock.” “Ya,” Sera said, seemingly unable to keep her mouth shut, “she’s been dreaming about Cullywully, her lil’ golden boy. And then she saw ‘im in the café and couldn’t be assed to get his number.” Ela sat silently and tried to drown her embarrassment in Dorian’s nice white wine. “While I agree that a good dick can solve most problems,” Dorian said with a leer at The Iron Bull, “demons paying you a little too much attention is a problem that makes worse. Lust and all that. Anyway, you do have the scent of the Fade about you. It’s just not polite to comment on someone’s mage-status.” When her cheeks returned to their normal color, Ela cleared her throat and said, “I don’t know why this would start now of all… Hey, you’ve been in them, too!” Dorian blinked. “Have I, now? And you only just now noticed? I’m a little insulted that I’m so forgettable.” “There’s usually a lot of blood and red lyrium. Not exactly easy to identify most people, what with the carnage,” Ela replied. “Red lyrium? That’s some boogey man to latch onto,” Dorian said, rubbing his chin. “You’d think your mind would settle on the archdemon or some of that other Blight nonsense. Everyone loves a good Warden story, afterall.” Ela bit her tongue to hold back her scathing comment about the reality of red lyrium, but that’s a lesson she’d learned thoroughly. Discussing the reality of red lyrium and the Blights and darkspawn and Wardens always ended up in bickering about sources (and usually jabs at her dyslexia, as if that made her less credible). She turned her tone pointedly polite. “Thank you for your concern, Dorian.” (Bull winced at the clear insincerity in her words.) “But it’s just some silly nightmares. I’m fine.” “Come on, Boss, he didn’t mean it that way,” Bull said. “And you haven’t slept well in months. Don’t think I missed how hungover you were at lunch.” Ela dropped her gaze to the glass in her hand. “Well, I can help with that,” Dorian said. He set down his wine glass and went into his bedroom for a moment before he came back holding a small, jade amulet. He held out to Ela, but The Iron Bull snatched it out of his hand and examined it for anything malicious before giving to Ela. Dorian cleared his throat loudly, but otherwise didn’t respond to the exchange. “There was some family drama when I first left Tevinter; that did away with sleepless nights.” Ela eyed his earnest expression for a moment before looking at the amulet herself, though without any magical talent it may as well have just been a polished stone from the garden. She was still looking at it when she absentmindedly said, “Your father was less than understanding about your enjoyment of the male form?” “...Yes, actually.” Dorian retook his seat and looked far more serious than he had before. “I take it you knew that from these nightmares.” Ela bit her bottom lip and then nodded. “You were reasonably upset about it.” Dorian turned to Sera. “And this Cullywully person, you say she recognized him from her nightmares? Did she ever describe him before today?” Sera nodded and kicked her feet up on his coffee table. “Yup. Kinda creepy, how accurate she was, too.” Sera gestured to her mouth. “Got his scar n’ everything.” “And is his name, ah, Cullywully?” Ela snorted. “Cullen. And I don’t know. I didn’t talk to him.” “Hmm, well, I suppose I will have to take one for the team and spend my afternoons in that café until he comes back and I can confirm,” Dorian said, making a show of looking put-upon. “Of course, if the amulet works, then it doesn’t matter, but if he’s as attractive as you’re making him sound, I’m sure I’ll survive the effort.” The Iron Bull reached over and tweaked Dorian’s mustache, which started a clearly affected play-fight that sent Ela into fits of giggles. She put the amulet in her pocket and the issue of her nightmares was forgotten in favor of teasing the new couple. *** On the bus ride home (not the ‘shifty’ train), Sera slept sprawled across her seat, the aisle and Ela’s lap, snoring quietly. Ela stroked her friend’s hair with one hand and checked her text messages with the other. From The Iron Bull, she had a picture of a cat in a t-shirt and photoshopped sunglasses and alternating smiling and frowning emoji finally ending with ‘u stil luv me, rite?’ He’d also sent a second message just a few minutes after they left saying, ‘dat ass tho’ with a winky face. Ela chuckled and then sifted through the various reminders and spam messages from unknown numbers. One catches her eye from the preview menu because it uses proper capitals and punctuation. 'Hello, sorry if this is weird. I think your friend reverse pickpocketed me. I found a napkin with this number and a doodle of your face (sorry if that’s rude, but your vallaslin are striking) and a, uh, rather colorful invitation to text you. So I’m texting you. Definitely me. Not my much hotter friend Alistair whom you should totally date instead.’ It ended with a second phone number, ostensibly Alistair’s, but either way, it made Ela laugh quietly. Sera simply snored louder. Ela snapped a quick photo of herself with her big, floppy hat and attached it to her reply. ‘Hello! It’s me you’ve got. You didn’t mention any dicks on the note, so I’m not sure my friend gave it to you. Send a pic back to confirm.’ Ela smiled for the rest of the ride back.
