not to still be all up in arms about the transformers religion but holy fuck, robots having religion is nothing new, they can have theology! that makes sense! robots who are fully sentient seeking out a reason for their souls is totally fine! im not saying the transformers shouldnt believe in primus or the all spark or believe in the 13 primes that whole thing works, it just bothers me that the canon of their religion is canon to the story. why is their planet LITERALLY their god. why is their religion based in literal history. i shouldnt even call it their religion, its just their canonical history. thats the problem! it comes from the perspective of writers who see religious doctrine as real history!

it also sucks for the nature of the robot as a concept! instead of being machines so advanced they are sentient, they are now fully formed beings granted souls by their god. thats no longer synthetic life conceptually, is it? that is a higher being creating life out of nothing. the concept of robots comes from slave labour, machines created by man to further their own advancements. machines created by organic life, not machines granted life by an ethereal being. they were created as commentary on capitalism. it asks the question "if this life is created synthetically, but it forms sentient thought, it is alive?". most other stories containing robots do this. think about overwatch's omnics, mass effects geth, star trek characters like data and the doctor, we the audience see them as alive but people in their worlds have to debate about it. that is the point of science fiction, to have theological discussions about robots.

what disappoints me about transformers isnt the changing of the lore, but the fact they couldnt conceive of anything more interesting to say about robots. i was watching g1 thinking "i cant wait to see future adaptations take this concept and flesh it out", and watching these adaptations strip the nature of the robot entirely from the lore in place of some all powerful god really sucks! imagine if their theology was the same, but their history was not. imagine robots who believe their planet is their god in spite of not actually knowing that to be true. wouldnt that be conceptually more interesting? wouldnt that say something?

instead of a unicron who is just a cosmic horror, a rogue planet who hungers for other worlds to sustain itself, unicron now represents all evil in the universe. hes a being of pure evil, existing as the equal and opposite to the canonically good god primus, the planet of cybertron. that ruins the concept to me. theyre taking the fun of science fiction out of it, turning it into basic "all good in the universe comes from god". it takes the choice of being good or evil out of it. giving them literal souls takes them choosing to say they have souls out of it. it takes the choice of valuing biological life away from the robots themselves to say that it is simply evil to not.

maybe some adaptation i havent gotten to yet will say something else, but as it stands right now im just so disappointed that this is the route it took.

Just started playing Skyrim as Edward Elric, here's a few highlights of my run and the Lore:

I'm playing on legendary survival mode because Ed's life sucks <3

One of the essential goals is to level alchemy up to 100. I will also be playing as a mage (which I've never done before so this should be interesting)

I'm not allowed to kill ANY PERSON. Not even bandits. Because Ed's a staunch pacifist so the 'people death' counter stays at zero for as long as humanly possible if not the entire playthrough. This is only for people, though, so draugr, animals, monsters, robots etc don't count. (I'm not sure where dragons land on that but I've already killed one so I guess it's too late to ponder it)

Also im not allowed to use soul gems. Those are functionally philosopher's stones, so Ed's not keen on that

I will also not be using any shrines/amulets because Ed's an atheist

Only steel and iron weapons! He's the Fullmetal Alchemist after all. Preferably one-handed weapons, as the sword arm is his go-to.

Enchantments are allowed (outside of soul trap for obvious reasons) as long as they come with the weapon when I find it, and I can't recharge them or make my own since I can't use soul gems

Leather armor because Ed wears leather in canon. Presently looking for a red outfit that looks anything like his coat. I'm thinking the vampire armor will be my best bet

I've got no mods otherwise I'd add a dwarven centurion follower and have that be my Al

As it stands, though, I've come up with a story that Al is functionally dead but Ed can summon his soul to fight for him in the form of conjuration spells. So far I've been summoning 'Al' as a wolf familiar and even a storm atronach when I found a scroll for it

(I considered dressing a follower up in armor so that they can be 'Al'. Still thinking about it but i kinda like the conjuration thing)

Ed's 'journey' lore wise is researching the Dwemer, since he thinks their disappearance could be related to Al's body being gone. I'll be reading every book possible about the Dwemer and researching every possible Dwemer ruin when I find it (I don't know a lot about the Dwemer anyway so me and Ed both are learning Together)

I'm also gonna be going to hermaeus mora's creepy realm cuz that's probably the closest to the truth dimension im gonna get (I've never finished that quest before this is gonna be fun)

I've got no Winry stand in but every time I upgrade my armor and weapons I pretend I'm stopping by Rush Valley or smth. Winry is there in spirit

I will be punching every godlike being in the face whenever humanly possible because that's what Edward Elric would do

Alright, the Lore Shit: After killing Zenith Martlet and absorbing Asgore's SOUL, Clover decided to kill literally everyone in the Underground (minus the Ruins since they can't get back there) to make sure that any humans to fall in the future can't be killed by them (their ass was NOT listening to Flowey about how the Barrier works). So the constant release of ambient magic from the killed monsters plus them having Asgore's SOUL started to, slowly but surely, turn them into a Monster (and because of how slow it was, they didn't have any balance issues with the tail). Unknown to them, Asgore's SOUL had been collecting that magic, which is what caused them to change. They don't even realize that they've transformed since, as Sans states, they have distanced themself so much by having a LOVE of 20 that they don't even really seem to be there (also they have not looked in a mirror, no "It's you"s to be seen here)

For some reason I thought of this too, but their theme would either be straight up Enemy Retreating or a remixed All's Fair (which I have decided to call "Is It Fair?")

Stats: Same as always for the same reason, it just makes sense here.

Traitor in the sense of "You killed everyone who cares for me" and "You killed all* the monsters while also being a monster" (a "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy" moment if ever there were). And "Justice" because killing people is never justice (unless it's the death penalty and ruled by a court of law but eh, semantics)

Because this fight is from the POV of a Pacifist Ending Clover (most likely in between exploring Ceroba's house and meeting up with Martlet on top off UG Apartments, again I have thought this out way too much) that means that nmm!Clover is fighting a human, which they really don't want to do, especially since that human is themself, so they hesitate and sometimes just straight up don't attack (I thought about including Familiarity again, but decided against it just so that I could have new material, it would absolutely fit, though)

Also, fun little fact I guess, but this is a complete inversion of the dt!Clover vs. nm!Clover fight! A murderous monster Clover fighting a pacifistic human Clover, and BOTH don't want to fight this time!

I realize that this may be a bit much considering this IS your au, but I can't help it when my brain starts thinking of this stuff, and it's so cool that I can't NOT draw it and share it.

ANYWAYS now I only have like one idea left. I am so close, but I will probably gain like seven others as soon as it's done, oh well. Enjoy!

godrick is probably one of my favorite fights due to how fucking dumb he is. he literally crawls toward you and throws wind at you. he has to attach a dragon to his arm to beat you and still fucking loses. all those limbs he grafted to give him power just weigh him down and i think thats really funny

margit is a very fun first story boss. his moveset is pretty cool and i have his voice line engrained into my skull

12. moon presence

i love this boss mostly bc of the cutscene since the fight is kind of underwhelming

11. divine dragon

i love the music plus the fight is cool. i like the genre of souls bosses that are very sad and pathetic looking

OK IM READY HERES A VERY VERY LONG POST (I have warned you)

So The Past Within is part of a puzzle game series called Rusty Lake by a studio of the same name. There’s 15 games (and a short film!) that precede it and one coming out in September. That SOUNDS like a daunting amount of games but at least the first 9 were released as flash games (and rereleased as a collection) and they’re all relatively short. Most of those games are in the style of the 2D sections of The Past Within or something similar, whereas the 3D was unique to TPW. There’s a variety of different characters, families, and time periods these games take place. I won’t go into too much detail about the other games in this rant so you can either experience them yourself or I’ll explain in another post or whatever! But be warned that those games are a lot darker than TPW and def have more blood, violence, etc.

ALSO if you’re interested in playing but you’re worried about the cost of 15 whole games, you can buy them all for like $20!!! They’re available on steam as well as mobile and some of them are just straight up free. If you want to test the waters, I would recommend getting the Cube Escape Collection on mobile since they’re free and are the first 9 games. If you don’t want to play them that’s cool too I don’t mind ranting :) BEFORE THE HUGE RANT!!! past this point I’m going to talk abt this game like you’ve seen the sss stream so if you haven’t, stop reading here and I’ll write a non-spoilery rant and review!!! I really really don’t want to ruin the experience if you didn’t watch the whole stream!!!!!

ANYWAYS The Past Within is pretty straightforward. You play as Rose Vanderboom who has received a letter that her father, Albert, has died and you must resurrect him with help from a person from the future. You do this by using a black cube and a golden cube. These cubes are featured in most of the other games. They represent memories and have been shown to manipulate time in some cases. It is revealed that before he died, Albert built a cubical device that utilizes the time abilities of the cubes, and transports the three required “ingredients” to be transported from 1926 to 1984. Another staple of the series are corrupted souls. When Albert became “corrupted” (after Julia put the coins on his eyes and when he was in the tube for Jacob) he was a corrupted soul. These are also featured many times throughout the series and are crucial to many parts of the lore. Some of the puzzles on this device allude to the previous games, such as the use of chess, the masks Albert wears, and the voodoo doll. There’s also appearances of other characters in these games, such as Ida, Albert’s sister, and the suited parrot Jacob sees in the mirror (fun fact: a comment on the vod of the stream said the parrot was actually a super important lore character and it sparked a lot of questions of why he appeared in TPW, which is what really prompted me to look into these games!). A majority of these references are to Rusty Lake: Roots, the game where Albert and Rose originate from. If you have any questions about Albert, Rose, and the rest of the Vanderboom family, Roots is the game for that, but I would not start there as there’s a specific order the games are recommended to be played! Though it is a co-op game, both players are Rose, one in the past and one in the future. (it bothers me SO MUCH that Jacob does not say this until THE END OF GAME despite it literally being written on a piece of paper he just. didn’t acknowledge.) I realize this is not an extremely in depth answer but I can explain more if needed.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game. I really loved the aesthetic and style of it and I thought the co-op puzzle were pretty fun. I know a lot of other people didn’t like the co-op aspect and I think some say the puzzles were too easy, and it makes sense why people would feel this way, but I personally didn’t mind. I think there was also a big complaint that the game didn’t expand much upon the lore and had too many questions rather than answers, and I do agree with that. Looking back on it after having played all the games I can see how annoying it is to have all these new questions that ignore several unanswered ones. Like whatever the ending was. I still don’t understand the ending. However, it is a GREAT game to hook in new players and I’m actually really glad this is the first game I ever saw of the series. TPW has such an intriguing atmosphere and teases at all the lore behind the characters that it draws people in, or at least people like me. I get a bit worried people won’t like the other games bc there somewhat different than TPW, like people might expect them all to be co-op, or just that the other games are a lot…..weirder (it’s weird in a way I really love tho). But it’s a really interesting starting point for those of us who didn’t know abt the series in its flash days. For the characters I really love Rose, she’s everything to me. She doesn’t have a lot of dialogue in the one or two games she appears in, but I love her. On the other hand, I have a lot of complex feelings on Albert in a way I can only describe as “I want to study him like a bug and then smash him with hammers.” I don’t like him, I don’t hate him, but rather a secret third thing. But keep in mind everything I say here is just my opinion and I’ve only known about this series for like. one or two months.

Ok this is the longest post I’ve ever made ever and is probably so incoherent but I’ll stop there. So theres not really an easy way to summarize it.

So Recycled Souls is basically fnaf but i make shit up.

Im just having a silly little time over here writing silly little narratives.

I started making this like. Before fnaf 3 came out or just around when it came out so its been through a lot of interesting changes over the years. It has a recurring theme of found family that youll see a lot and theres also a lot of ocs i use to fill gaps or just give use to characters in fnaf that arent talked about a lot (like the fnaf 4 bullies)

Also its basically a joke. Most of the lore in RS is played completely seriously but was for shits and giggles when i wrote it.

A good example of that is that theres a group of characters who just randomly pop up for plot convenience and theyre just a really incompetent street gang who end up turning into clowns. Also clown springtrap is a crime boss. I have fun here.

But i also take my world building super seriously and have an entire Remnant mechanic system written out and an entire afterlife and how it works and different ways souls can be damaged.

But if i had to try and summarise the plot i would say it follows Michael trying to clean up his fathers mess that he left behind while fate works against him.

yeah you know from high-level dungeons in bb come all kinds of things. so on my platinum character ive also farmed all kinds of gems and shit, and 99% of coop i do happens in the chalice dungeons with people just as insanely overleveled as me.

...that's until hunters of hunters roll in and you realise that whoever invaded your ass is probably just as high a level as you or more (which is around 300) and you're just. well that'll be a fun fight huh.

i have a vivid memory of a crow wannabe showing up and pulling out a tonitrus, the Most Okayest Weapon Ever. they chased me around ihyll and died to a fireball trap. fuxking lmao.

another one is from ds3 and it's about a greatbow user who fucking soloed midir, the big bad fuckoff huge dragon for me on my dark character run. i was doing like 20 damage? and then this guy rolls in and puts the fear of god back right into my heart. oh it was amazing.

- the blade of mercy. it's so worth learning how to effectively use. it's fast, it does a respectable amount of damage on a good skill build and it encourages very high mobility and less of R1 mashing.

- the onyx blade. everything about it is immaculate, from the caduceus aesthetic to the black flames, to its speed. i love how light it feels to wield too, as if its barely holding together from everything its original wielder been through.

- morgott's cursed curved greatsword. it's very satisfying to use and to land the skill attack in succession, also i absolutely love curved greatswords in elden ring. the design of the blade and the introduction of it, as the wood falls off it from the sheer force of morgott's grip? hhoh. i want this thing in my house not gonna lie.

- honorable mention of estoc, the weapon i use in every souls game until i find something i like for my specific build. also it fucking carried me through my first ds2 run, what a great weapon.

16. What are your favourite areas?

ds1: new londo and anor londo. all of the headcanons aside, i can't help but wonder what they were like when they were alive. and in their current states they're much like yourself, undead and long hollow, having forgotten what it is to be a home.

ds2: THE GUTTER. lighting up all the sconces is something i look forward to every run. and with the heartbeat... the place is so unsettling and beautiful in the dark, i just spend a lot of time wandering around and looking at the edges of structures peeking out from the dark. the runner up is shulva. i would love to live there before it went to shit.

ds3: i like carthus catacombs, sue me. mainly because invasions in there are very fun (for me). irithyll is okay. the ringed city is more okayer but it takes longer to get there, and the only reason i like two of those is their aesthetics. idk ds3 lore.

bloodborne: ...the hunter's nightmare. the ruined and warped city of yharnam in sickly daylight, drowned in blood and knowing nobody but those who spill it. to be fair i like most of all bloodborne locations with one petty exclusion (fuck you hemwick). i wish the castle cainhurst was bigger on the inside as well as the outside, but i guess i will have to do with the castle sol </3

elden ring: fuck all of you, caelid is beautiful and haunting, a festering and living grave of a land. i like it a moderate amount. i have not spent hours obsessively taking pictures of various plants and creatures there. i am normal about caelid. ...on another note, i think leyndell is the best area fromsoft ever made as a dungeon and aesthetics wise.

A Note on Soul Traits

Monster Soul Traits basically follow UT canon lore to a degree, with the caveat that going against their trait can shatter them. They also have far more traits than canon lore. A monsters Soul Trait can be just about anything and their Core Trait is essentially their only trait but not their only personality trait.  Human Soul Traits are similar to Monsters except they do not shatter if they don’t abide by their traits and their Core Trait can change with age and experience. Their Souls also tend to have more than one trait.  Fae Soul Traits all Fae species have the same Core Trait and it cannot and will not change. They cannot fight the pull of it and therefore are never at risk of shattering. However, their Souls, like humans, pick up the traits of others or ones they want and thus they are often lead by whimsy and emotion. Fae Soul Traits and Core Traits are entirely emotion based and cannot be concept but feelings.  An example is mermaid fae. All their Core Trait is fervor, they are passionate and obsessive driven by this selfish desire. A shape-changer or shifters Core Trait is greed, they want to possess everything and this manifests into taking the form of everything. That said how these traits present vary by individual as they would with any person. Hybrids follow the rules of both their Souls merging and it is a constant tug-o-war and hard thing. A human/monster hybrid now must curb themselves from going against their Core Trait but also will have more flexibility given they have many unlike pure monsters.  And thats on that. Ask questions if ya got ‘em!

She's unaware that she's going to be having an even more TERRIBLE time when she learns about some of her past reincarnations : ) 1/7 participants in the unhinged toxic sapphic (mostly) vampire polycule and she is going to Tear This Relationship Apart 😡. this Shame Vampire Has Everything and Nothing Going For Her and All She Wants To Be is A Wifeguy and live a Quiet Normal Life

coco cascade – half-dragon half-devil tiefling soulknife rogue and draconic sorcerer > *slaps coco's back* this tiefling can have SUCH an existential crisis after realizing she hatched from an egg. raised by the vistani so she's the only other current PC than ophelia that's from barovia. was apparently the ward of argynvost 400 years ago 👁👄👁 girl how long were you in that egg? was a circus performer with her fiance flare, also is working for her soulknife mentor Thalancer who APPARENTLY can spy on her in barovia and wants her to steal shit?? i am fascinated. but yeah Coco's having a terrible time and some life-changing realizations on the worst vacation w/ her fiance ever.

flare – fire genasi satire bard > coco's fiance and arguably ophelia's best friend in the party, which in some ways is saying something, and in other ways is just merely flare has done the best job of NOT scaring ophelia away. insane tumbler (in the acrobatics sense) and has a penchant to crit on flame blades So Much It Scares Me- was also raised in a church like ophelia but has a DIFFERENT sort of complicated relationship with it. i think we're going to be getting some interesting genie lore 👁👄👁

kregga hagsbane ironhide – bugbear bear totem barbarian, future fighter multiclass i believe > WAS IN PRISON WHEN THE MISTS ROLLED IN AND SHE JAILBROKE DIRECTLY INTO BAROVIA 😭😭 has some insane Fey Shit going on that i'm So Compelled by and is also looking for Kavan who is a dead NPC in Barovia... Inchresting. Kregga is hilarious and Kregga is also TERRIFYING in combat and tore so many blades off the windmill 😭

inmis – a modified grave domain cleric + homebrew race called reapers > emmisary of the raven queen with a huge spy network in barovia 👁👄👁 i haven't got as much details on what's going on in her backstory or what her motivations are but she's VERY cool and she gives people flowers 🥺 i'm super excited to get more into her lore as well

manare - shadar-kai watchers hexadin > manare is not currently a PC but she is my backup character because it's nearly 100% likely I will have to set aside Ophelia's character sheet for a little bit just with how things are going for her LMAO and i've created a horrible sick and twisted little build to replace her for a bit. manare's a sweet girl, there's nothing weird going on at all we promise, she's also my sacrificial lamb so i can get my blorbo back from her corruption arc and my dm and i like her so much that we feel bad about killing her but <3 you gotta do what you gotta do <3 however she is a dusk elf and is going to Ruin Rahadin's Life a little bit first

NPCS

luce salutare - aasimar divine soul sorc > at one point was also a paladin and a cleric but those r in past lives, hello this is ophelia's wife who isn't her wife but they're soul mates in a sense but that sense is 'we keep running into each other and inspiring each other to change' except last time they were alive together they both were best friends in love and said nothing and then luce got murdered by strahd and ophelia became a vampire. NOW LUCE IS IN RAVENLOFT. WITH STRAHD. PAIN AND SUFFERING? 1/7 of the insane sapphic vampire polycule. Girl We Gotta Get You Out.

ireena kolyana - some sort of fighter > i, liza, would die for her, so how could anyone expect that i wouldn't fall madly in love with her AGAIN. ireena's incredible and my DM's take on her is super fun-- she just wants to be Herself and take control of her identity and her life and not be living up to the image of Someone She Once Was and I adore her and apparently she and luce were galpals in ravenloft which is Sending Me and she and Ophelia keep being gay, I Am 🥺🥺 again, part of the insane sapphic vampire polycule. we are unionizing. i believe in ophelucena.

Ok so first some background lore for the world: so here magic is literally linked to your soul in 2 ways.

Your soul element is simple: its literally the element you were born with. Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Electricity, Ice, Light, and Darkness (possibly more because im still writing). This is possible to change, but you'd have to work yourself to the bone, and there's the chance it could hurt quite a lot.

Your soul VIBE, however, is a lot more interesting. Your vibe changes based on your personality. So lets say you're a very shy, but protective. Your magic would be stealth and protection oriented, then. It's not impossible to do stuff that wasnt made for your vibe, but it'll probably be a lot weaker.

There ARE 2 special vibes though: Dream and Nightmare.

Dream vibe represents those who, even through the worst of times, know how to be a guiding light to those in need, allowing them to use magic almost like a limb, controlling anything of their element with ease.

Nightmare vibe represents those who get consumed by the lows, creating a deadly amount of power, but at great risk to the user.

Now for literal worldbuilding: an amazonian-like group called the Quiren literally formed the world. They dont have magic, but can literally move mountains. Like, actually. They have INCREDIBLE strength.

ok so first you got the girl i have been working on since like... 7th grade:

INA

Ina is an extremely cheerful kitsune girl with the fire element. She also holds the dream vibe. As a young girl, she lived with her parents, but unfortunately due to the evil royal guard, her entire village went up in flames, killing everyone except her and one other person who i'll get to later. How did she survive, you may ask? One member rebelled and took her in, raising her. She has a very smug exterior, always seeming to have fun all the time, even being able to joke with her enemies, but she is EXTREMELY beat up inside, and sometimes worried that she isnt fit to do anything.

also she's a really good cook and is sporty, which she likes to encorperate into her magic attacks

SYLVANA

Sylvana is the fast electricity wielder of the group, and is also LITERALLY the mom friend as the oldest member of the group. An ex-royal guard member that just so happened to take in a certain kitsune when she left. A skilled assasin, with sharp knives and an equally sharp tongue. However, she deeply regrets everything she did under the tyrannical rule of the queen, and wants to teach the young people of the group to be better than her, especially Ina and one other person. You also do NOT want to get her pissed, as she will absolutely ruin your life.

KURO NÉMA AND SHIRO LETTE

Kuro is a masterful detective, as well as the son of the famous detective Noire Néma, who was able to solve any case while shrouded in darkness. He took over her agency after her assassination. Kuro is shy, but has a very stoic and calm exterior. He also has some mild anger iasues, but he's learning to control them. While not trying to live up to any expectations, as he wasn't even supposed to be a detective, sometimes work can get to him. Also, he's completely colorblind. He only sees in black and white. He also likes to monologue like he's the protagonist of a detective film.

Shiro is the Pomsky best friend and assistant of Kuro. Being the cause of his color blindness with an accidental bright light, she feels like Kuro hates her and wants to make it up to him in any way possible. With a photographic memory, and an insane interest in artifacts, she makes for a great partner. However, she has an extreme amount of attachment issues to Kuro, so they practically are always together.

Both of them also love praise. A lot.

also they're in love but think the other isn't interested in them, they don't become a couple until near the end of the story

ALICE

Sylvana's daughter, an catgirl as energetic as the wind. The youngest of the group, and an aspiring wrestler. Not much is known about Alice's past, but one day Sylvana found her while on patrol and took her in. She's very close to Sylvana, and is almost obsessed with ber big sis Ina. A bit of a weeb and a chuuni, but she has a big heart. She also holds on to her past a lot, which can be a bit of an issue at times.

FEN

Fen is Ina's childhood best friend, a wolfgirl as graceful as ice. The 2 did everything together and were practically inseperable. Until Fen left on a mission to go gather some groceries, and came back to a village on fire and everyone she knew gone. Including her best friend. She fell into absolute despair, and isolated herself on a mountain, believing herself to be cursed. However, eventually Ina finds her and manages to help her be somewhat happy. She may be nervous, and has some trust issues, but she's a good person and a great fighter.

DAE

Dae is the future princess of the Quiren, and is the group's moth-like powerhouse. Once the queen started feeling off, Dae's mothers (the current queens of the quiren) were concerned, and asked Dae to join our little group of adventurers. Dae is an absolute tomboy, and while she loves being a princess she's also really into their tribe's sporting events. Many people, not including her loving parents, try to tell her she should focus on being a princess, however, and it can get to her sometimes. She's also really invested in anime, naming a lot of her moves after something she's seen in a show. She also has a weird, non-romantic attraction to Ina and Shiro...

NEXUS (technically my friends OC, but he was put into my story so i have my interpretation of him here.)

A young foxboy who's as calm as the sea. Nexus was part of a seperate village that was attacked, and wants to become the new keeper of time to reverse the events and save everyone who died because of the queen's royal guard. He finds ina one day in a near-fatal state, and in return for saving her life wants her help. Starts out cold and distant to everyone, especially Sylv and Alice, but eventually warms up to the group, especially Ina.

Progress made: 5.6k words of drafting (and 1.2k of very loose scripting, ~1k of attempted Planning that i decided was a bad idea bc i much prefer pantsing) WIPs worked on: Echoseers (total wc: 43.3k) Writing streak: 194 days (shooting for 200!) Current chapter + POV: Chapter 8, its a mess of different POVs as basically a series of vignettes setting up each person's arc during the party split that takes up the majority of the book

Favorite line(s) since last update (the last bit of an Ember POV nightmare sequence; Trigger Warnings: references to and significant description of pain, corpses, unreality, being buried alive, and body horror; deep ocean- and eldritch-inspired horror; brief unwanted touch and subsequent discomfort):

“Have you seen the depths of this world before, Elder?”

A bright, uncanny light washes over me. My shadow is two, one recognizable and struck through with lacing cracks of fire, and one stretched and bent in all the wrong places, a hole cut straight through the chest. A hole, a triangle. A rib, leaned on as a walking stick.

“Have you seen the ruins of what you’ve done?”

The voice hisses as if on air, as long, bony fingers grip my shoulder and the silky silhouette of the second shadow’s hair spreads like a net over both of us. Like a sheet, like a veil. Like mine has never been able to, for the tight coils and the frizz and the natural twisting of my locs.

“Have you seen the bodies still screaming in the chasms of Eqia?”

Another hand, clawing and desperate, grabs onto mine buried beneath the ocean floor and pulls, mixing drawn blood with salt and sand.

“Have you forgotten your promises?”

Grit and silt and rot join the water that has seeped into my being as I’m buried, the creature behind me tracing my spine with its distended finger as I’m tugged ever-further beneath the ground. Dust scrapes against my throat and cuts at my lungs and burrows into my stomach. Rock squeezes around me, as unbearable and immovable as the weight of the ocean above, and clamps down further.

“Have you forgotten that this world isn’t yours?”

Heat blooms, searing and endless and bright and liquid. It envelops me and brands every inch that already itches with blisters. It bleeds into my soul and bursts in a heavenly Fire before it begins to eat away at what is left. The voice follows as my skin melts from my flesh and my flesh slips from my bones and my bones char and my screaming goes unheard, unspoken, unforgiven.

“Have you forgotten what happened the last time the ocean ran red?”

I’m left to drift in the magma, shrieking myself hoarse as the choir of an entire planet’s suffering joins me.

Scene I'm looking forward to:

the end of this chapter is when the first of a series of love letters is found hidden in someone's luggage and im very excited for it 🥰 also im going to get to write a bunch of nightmares like this one and introduce lore and history that's referenced in them and im SO PUMPED.

So there’s this fic...

So those of you who follow me know that I don’t really post my own stuff and usually just reblog whatever shit I find. And whenever I do post my own stuff it’s a short snippet or joke or something.

That’s not the case right now.

No this is not serious or anything I just want to share an amazing fic and talk about it: The Otherness Came (and I knew it’s name) by @pumpkinpaperweight

(Yes this is a School for Good and Evil fic and it’s really good)

Starting here there will be spoilers from the books (specifically from TCY) and Kate’s fic. You have been warned.

So I’m really new to this fandom and this is my first sge fic so you could say there’s some bias but I don’t think it would effect much.

(Disclaimer: I do not know @pumpkinpaperweight and have never interacted with her. I just love her fic(s) and headcanons)

So where should I begin. Ah yes. Never! Tedros

The thing I love about this is that he never really changes personalities. He’s literally the exact same Tedros but he’s got a sexy villain outfit with a chest slit (who’s idea was that? Sophie wasnt there) Its basically like if tedros didn’t always have to worry about the good rules we learned in book one. Which half the time he doesn’t listen to anyway and is the idea this entire fic is based on.

Now the thing is: this actually fits in better than the actual Camelot years. Most people who have read that know this and basically just forgo the original final two books and the ending of QFG. Honestly I kinda have too. But here’s the thing: would we enjoy it as much not knowing the actual canon version? I mean I feel like never! Tedros definitely could have happened easily but would we feel the same about it? I hope we would because it’s an amazing and interesting concept but I don’t really know. Nonetheless it’s still so enjoyable and fits with the never ever theme better.

Anyway the stakes were WAY higher in this one and a lot less deaths because let’s face it: there were way too many deaths in TCY. And yeah I get it deaths are needed but legit if you were an adult? You. Were. Not. Gonna. SURVIVE. Like im pretty sure a lot of them didn’t necessarily NEED to happen to still get to that final point. Like I’m not saying it didn’t flow but there was probably a different way. And no I’m not hating on the series. I love the series. It’s still good but I just thought of these things after seeing something like Kate’s fic. Like Robin’s and Betty’s deaths were both completely unnecessary. But in the fic, they don’t die (hell Robin isn’t ever in it). And THE STAKES. Agathas LIFE was on the line. It keeps Agatha from even having the chance of interfering after Rhian becomes king. SHES the one scim-washed instead of Sophie and it breaks them BOTH. The trial too. It’s rigged and when Rhian finds out he didn’t have a claim he SURRENDERS. It shows his pure Goodness simply manipulated.

Also did I mention Tedros’s outfit and stuff? Because yeah, that needs more attention. It’s fucking hot. Like when he’s put into the bad boy role, he will fucking play it and slay it. It’s a shame that outfit was ruined with Japeth’s blood though. I mean Sophie approved of it so what do you expect. Who knew Tedros had an eye for fashion?

Not to mention Tedros is just a bit darker with his humor. Not much where it’s not Tedros but it’s there. But what do you expect when you find out your soul is evil? It actually makes for a lot of fun jokes. My favorite one is when he breaks everyone out of prison at Rhian’s wedding and is like “hail to Rhian Pendragon, the one true king, on this glorious day of his wedding” (of course he says this sarcastically) and let’s face it: ever!tedros wouldn’t make that joke. But never!tedros? It’s free real estate!

(Of course it’s way funnier in context)

He’s also a bit more dramatic too (like the amount at the end of OTK where his head is chopped off and then he’s like BITCHES IM ALIVE) like it’s otk ending all. The. Time. Which there is NO reason to complain about that. Once again it’s just the never showing and it doesn’t really mess with the personality that much. It’s just a minor trait turned slightly more major.

Also also actually actually Tedros becomes friends with a bunch of nevers (specifically Ravan which is a friendship I think ALL of us never knew we needed). He legit gets the support of a lot of the never kingdoms which is why this is much easier for him.

Plus we have the coven being badass too in case you were wondering.

And there’s a lot more Arthurian lore in this too. Like the crest Tedros adopts (because he shouldn’t be confined to lion, eagle, or snake) is a dragon like it originally is. I mean it is the PenDRAGON line. I’m surprised Soman didn’t use pendragon in the books anyway, so seeing it here was a relief.

Anyway I think that about rounds it out (I don’t want it to be too long even though it already is) but all in all: I love this series but i love this fic more so go read it.

Learning to love ALL of Star Wars

I’ve grown a lot the past few years, and with that I’ve came to appreciate a lot more things about what I love. I’ve went from bitter and spiteful about what I don't have to appreciating what I do have, and at the centre of that storm is Star Wars. A franchise I’ve only really been invested in the last year. 

The beginning

So I was always a “fan” of Star Wars, sure. I grew up with the prequels and I was excited when Disney was releasing their new movies. But the past year is where I really got invested and found a whole new love for the franchise. And strangely enough, it was through the simplicity of Lego.  You see, I started watching videos by Brickvault about Lego Star Wars minifigures, and something about seeing the toys I loved as a kid from a modern perspective took me right back to wooshing my Jedi starfighter around my room. From there, I started moving away from Lego and dipped my toe in theories, lore videos and eventually discussion and review videos, the turning point being Cosmonaught Variety Hour.  Now, I have some opinions on the guy now, but Cosmonaught was perfect for me at the time. He was opinionated, entertaining, but most importantly knew his shit, and I liked that. His videos on Star Wars are pretty good, and really helped form my opinions back then... In a bad way... Now I’ll make this clear, this is NOT on Cosmonaught, it was just how impressionable I was as a person back then. I’m just saying how his video affected me on a personal level.  Up to this point I didn’t really understand the hate for the prequels besides the fact they were “bad movies” and “people don’t like them”. Cosmonaughts video on the prequels gave me those reasons, and I finally felt like I got the distaste for those films. However, like they say... A little knowledge can be dangerous, and boy was I about to learn that lesson the hard way... 

The fall

So here I am, knower of all things, the CORRECT things... I’ve watched my fair share of videos from a handful of sources, I know my shit. I’m making my opinions known, and I’ve become that friend.  But whats this! A dissenting opinion!? My boyfriend actually likes the prequels more than the Original Trilogy!? SACRALAGE!! I must prove him wrong! And prove him wrong I...! Did not... In fact, something rather bizarre happened... He convinced me.  I was stubborn at first, but I’ll admit, my wall got broken down at long last. He (bless his soul for dealing with me) managed to get through to me exactly what it was he loved about those films, and it wasn’t just the nostalgia. I had always seen the politics of the Galaxy like most other people did, some boring preachy nonsense that had no place in Star Wars, but I came around to it.  Granted with a little help from the Clone Wars I managed to piece together just what it was there was to like about these films... I wont say they’re perfect, far from it. But internally they have so much more going on compared to the Original Trilogy. The Era has some of the most fun and expandable concepts and ideas in all of Star Wars, and while it may not be as iconic, the visual artstyle of it all is still its own recognizable brand of Star Wars.  And almost like magic (or my phone spying on me) youtube started recommending videos that disagreed with Cosmonaught, and I got my first taste of how his video wasn’t as sound as I thought. Now as a side note: I still like Cosmonaught. He’s a funny guy who like I said knows his shit, but he obviously isnt the be all end all right and wrong which I hadn’t quite learned. I can enjoy his content while disagreeing with it, and I think thats just fine. I find myself disagreeing with a lot of creators I watch now and he’s just joined them.  But hang on, we’re missing something here... A certain... Mouse? Perhaps?

The dark times... The Disney Empire... 

So hop back to modern day for a sec, this timeline pretty much lines up with the end of the Disney movies right? So how do I feel about those? Well... When the first three came out, I liked them. Like everyone else I was loving new Star Wars. As a young art student, I loved Rogue One and TLJ for their stunning visuals, deeper themes and their attempt at something new and fresh. I loved the throne room fight scene, the light speed ram and how Rogue One had such a bitter sweet ending.  But ho ho no one else felt that way! And whether it be peer pressure or my love of dumpster fires my opinions changed like that. I laughed at the Rose Tico and Snoke memes, I hated the Canto Bight subplot and poor Luke being butchered on screen like that, and then there's Rey...  Solo came and passed. I refused to go see it, as I did with TROS which came out around the time I was getting back into Lego, and along with the prequels I was watching video essay upon video essay about why the sequels sucked and how to rewrite them. Some of them coming from a positive place, others... Not so much..  And so my hatred for them grew as I got back into the franchise and came to appreciate the originals for what they done great, and loathing the new films for lacking that same spark. And unlike the prequels, I didn’t really get enough pushback to change my mind. But what I did get was the full brunt of spite and hate the fans had for these new films, and honestly? It was depressing. 

Hate leads to suffering. 

I finally reached my rock bottom. I genuinely reached a point where I debated giving up Star Wars for the sheer amount of negative feelings I had towards the state of the franchise (which might I add is valid if you ever end up feeling that way about something you’re meant to be enjoying). 

I struggled to get past how Disney “ruined” Star Wars, and clearly nothing was going to change. 40 Years of history had been wiped out and the new timeline was a contorted mess, and the amount of discourse and disagreements in the franchise honestly did not help at all. 

Nothing was simple, everything had a catch. You like how Kylo was irredeemable in TLJ? Well he’s redeemed in TROS. TFA is a fun film but it sets up a lot of the things people hated about the sequels so you cant even just head canon that the other two never happened. And then...

Saved by Lego

There was Lego, making the best of a bad situation. It didnt care if you didn’t like that Palpatine was back (somehow), it didn’t care about the clunky prequel dialog, and it didn’t care about the thousands of retcons from the entierety of the franchises existence. 

Whether by contractual force or not: It was pure, distilled Star Wars. 

I loved how a set with Rey could stand beside a set with OT Luke and thats just how it was. It put into context that this was reality, and I could either be bitter about what could have been or accept what was, which wasn’t easy and I’m still not really over it. But I reached a place where I could accept the fun in all of Star Wars, that I liked how some of these characters looked, that these characters all existed in one Galaxy, and it was nice. 

And it led me straight back into... 

Learning to love Star Wars

One of the most important lessons I learned in the past year was trust your gut. Sure, hear out other peoples take on something, and if it changes your opinion all the more power to you. But don’t fight the fact you felt something in that initial reaction. I liked the prequels as a kid, so why don’t I as an adult? Is it because i outgrew them and see them for the disasters they are? Or is it because a someone who watched them as a fully grown adult that grew up with the OT was underwhelmed? 

And to that extent... I rewatched TFA and TLJ with an open mind and an open heart. The result? 

Im indifferent towards TFA. It has fun character moments and has a decent adventure, for what it is its good. But I actually found myself enjoying TLJ after all these years of hating on it. I liked their take on Luke, I liked the mutiny subplot, it didnt push the story forward leaps and bounds but it was a more methodical take on the franchise and for the I liked it. It wasn’t perfect, its biggest flaw is how bleak it can feel and its lack of doing anything interesting with its setting, but it does do a fair amount of decent things and I’ve come to appreciate it for that. 

I’m planning to watch TROS at long last soon, so maybe I’ll update it here. But what I will say is that I hope Lucasfilm don’t give up on the sequel era and characters quite yet. There is still a lot to love here as much as you may not like it, and I hope that they can explore more interesting meaningful themes and narratives in external media that they couldn’t in mainline films cough cough Stormpilot cough cough...

I know not everyone will agree with how I feel now, heck a lot of my problems I had still stand, but I’m at peace with it all now. I just want to sit back and enjoy this franchise for what it is. While I might not forgive Disney for its severe mishandling of... everything (a rant for another time) I’m content just not them supporting to the best of ability.

Star Wars is in such a unique position where each generation has a different stance and appreciation for different parts within the franchise. The prequels were hated until its fans grew up and started defending it, The Clone Wars was hated until its fans grew up and started defending it, and the sequels ended last year, their fans haven’t quite got their voice yet. But I’m interested to hear what they have to say.

belial take? spare belial take kind dusky?

Belial has no tits and no ass this mans abs are drawn on with makeup (he's real good at it!) he is meatless bones and for some reason everyone thinks hes got balloon boobies you could nestle your head between. Bro Reinhardtzar's enormous fertile milky breasts are right there if you're after some man meat.

Ok in all seriousness a lot of people read Belial like he's some kind of poor soul that just wants real love. Bullshit. He HAS everything he wants and continues to GET everything he wants. There's not a single moment in the whole wmtsb trilogy where things don't go exactly to his plans. He is the one in control and by thinking you can somehow show him how to be better by subjecting him to your "pure" love you are literally walking right into his trap. There's only one person he cares about as much as himself and that's Lucillius and even then its far more complex. His whole deal is cunning. If you think you can change him you've already fallen to his charm.

We can all agree that the whole lascivious and vulgar thing is an act but its not to push people away. It's more like... he acts so out there bc he enjoys the way it makes people around him perceive him. He's doing it for the fun of it. His own twisted pleasure. Deception. As well as being an effective distraction from his true nature which is just Very Evil and Bad and manipulating your every thought.

He's the worst. That's why he's great. He doesn't need you to make an honest man out of him bc that is completely impossible.

This is also why I DON'T want him to become playable OR INDEED the wmtsb story to continue on really. It ended perfectly rounded for everyone and bringing Belial back risks them trying to somehow redeem him and ruin his excellent character. As someone who writes corrupted angels and such similar stories myself I really feel like unless they were extremely careful about it this story is over.

TLDR Belial is perfectly awful and I don't think it would be in his character to genuinely care for anyone. and certainly not to the point of breaking his loyalty to Lucillius.

(ps i have also not actually played the Belial raid quest yet either so im not sure what the lore going on there is but from what i can gather it doesnt contradict anything here. please dont ask me about the raid LOL 1 i dont want spoilers and 2 i don't know how to play this game)
