Hello! Do you have any advice with painting? Every time I start I end up just doing lineart with colours underneath, and when I do kindles art it looks kind of like plastic. Am I supposed to merge the two layers and then start shading? What would you recommend?
Hey anon!! I actually do have some advice for that!! I'll shove it under a cut because it got way longer than I thought it would, sorry for the infodump everyone _(:3 」∠)_
quick tl;dr: painting process should consider both personal taste & the desired aesthetic of a painting, & to avoid plastic-y colours, make sure your hues vary within your values (and layer modes are ur friend) ♥
there's a million ways to start paintings & its all down to personal preference -- the end goal for the illustration can often influence the approach you take; a crisp digital painting might call for meticulous layering & sharp edged flats, but if you want something to look like an oil painting, you should try and mimic that process as close as you can! here's some examples:
Tumblr media
this is the sketch for my FYR zine piece from last year; i intentionally approached it in a way that looks like traditional underpaintings so that when I worked directly on top, those orange tones would peek through like this:
Tumblr media
after doing that undersketch, i manually painted everything -- no fancy layer modes, just me, one layer, and screaming ಥ_ಥ it was hard but it worked for the vibe i wanted!!
now v.s something like this:
Tumblr media
simple shapes, roughly blocked in shading that just gets merged and painted over, as well as lots of layer modes on top for those colour changes! this is by far the easier one & the one i'd probably recommend, solely because it lets you keep more control. i go more in depth here on that -- but to quickly answer, i personally block everything (including shading) in before I merge & render!
for the other thing you mentioned, a lot of the times that 'plastic' feeling can come from either a lack of transitional shades or only using white/black for your value tones. this tweet thread (direct image links 1, 2 & 3) by frozensoba demonstrates it incredibly well -- by adding certain colour shifts in your values, it can create extra depth which is what makes stuff look more alive!! don't be afraid to really push it and get wacky
an easy way to add it while you're learning is using gradient maps to add richness in your midtones. It's not perfect since different surfaces & materials diffuse light differently, but adding one at the end of a drawing can help tie everything together. If you can do both at once though it always looks best; here's some very quick 2 minute orbs as an example:
Tumblr media
ok I'm almost done (and im so sorry for how long this got... special interest moment TM) -- one last thing is to try varying your brush strokes & adding textures if you want. using only an airbrush or heavily relying on blurring brushes can make things look plastic too; sometimes you want that, but for the times you don't, adding some texture & leaving brush marks in can do a lot!!
lastly, since this is just me rambling, here are some artists that are incredibly talented & i highly recommend looking at for their advice & processes because it will be much more coherent than this:
Marco Bucci -- amazing educational content. if you check out any of these artists, he's the one to look at first imo. his 10 minutes to better painting series is a great place to start
Sinix Design has some amazing tutorials on anatomy & the mechanics of painting! This video & the intermediate part 2 are super
Dao Trong Le -- a veritable goldmine of speedpaints
Bo Chen & any of the riot splash artists. If that's the vibe you're after, you can't go wrong with the LoL splashes as reference
i hope that helps!!!

look: the only arguments in favor of webtoons ive ever heard hinge greatly on the idea that the vastness of the audience on webtoons is crucial to one’s success in the “webcomic business” nowadays. people need money to live. to make money quickly in the entertainment business (and i would like to stress that this is the first time the artist makes a choice: when they decide to pursue art as a career. deciding to do this is not a choice that should be made lightly. additionally, i do not believe that people are being forced to turn to webcomics in order to make a living lol. can you even imagine), they turn toward the algorithmically curated and inflated numbers offered by webtoons.
i’ll start this off with my bone fides so i have to clarify any of this in follow up posts: i started workshopping my webcomic on tumblr in 2012 with doodles and by answering asks people would send me. i would also just post lore dumps for funsies. they are so barely related to the comic now, but they created interest and people asked me cool questions that made me think about the world i was creating. i started the comic in 2013. holy shit i really am coming up on a decade of webcomics. hold on i have to stand up and walk around for a second. picture to break up all these words so your eyes dont slide off the page:
Tumblr media
i made enough money on patreon (as a very early adopter) to live in beaverton, oregon (with first 3, then 1 other roommate[s]) living the most spartan lifestyle a person could manage in order to avoid having to go back to my hometown. now i live in confusing moderate comfort in a house my bf and i bought in a burst of sheer market based luck right before everything exploded. we used all of my savings i earned working from age 15-30 as a down payment.
i still try to take care of myself entirely and contribute a proportional amt of my income to the bills. i use government aid and use(d) it get a lot of medical help that i would not have been able to afford otherwise (medicare for all btw its unconscionable that this isnt the norm). i sincerely enjoyed my poverty and i felt like i understood how to live under those parameters with ease and comfort. i was poor but i was free. i do not like that i have to disclose this in order for people not to immediately dismiss me as coming from a place of monetary privilege. this shit is none of your business. im not interested being assigned a perception to my work and character that does not come from my words and deeds. i do not want “poverty artist” to be the signifier attached to me, forever, that people can scrutinize and obsess over whether or not i deserve the adjective i dislike.
but for things i do like: i like my audience very much, and i hope that they understand that they are under no obligation to care for me, keep me alive, finance me, etc. that is entirely my responsibility. but it is through their continued donations and support that i am able to draw my comic full time in a lifestyle i found comfortable, something that i sincerely imagined would not be possible while i was still working and in college. my audience of ~1.5k (i think, google analytics is kinda whack. lotta bots. this is with all that shit i could find filtered out) has been built up gradually over the past near decade and is comprised of funny, lighthearted freaks of nature who make me laugh very frequently. i just cant let them know that or they will become too powerful and use jokes to destroy me. i dont think i have a single bad thing to say about AGS readers. you guys are a hoot lol.
i do not have a discord dedicated to my work because i find the idea pretty unappealing and have had moderator experience in the past on other websites that i did not enjoy. i did not have comments on my comic until this year. previously the only way to contact me was via twitter, tumblr ask or email. i advertise my comic twice on update days, once in the morning and once at night, so i dont flood dashboards. i do not sign up for zines or jobs. i do not promote my work otherwise. well, there’s a link in my sa avatar, but let’s be real. no one’s clicking that.
WITH ALL THAT SAID:
i cannot empathize with the people who pursue the webtoons line of monetization and i find parts of (what must be) their reasoning morally abhorrent. im not even going to get into the predatory and laughable “pay per page” concept, an idea so blatantly evil that if it were pitched in any other medium it would get you laughed out of the room at best. im not going to talk about the ridiculous audacity of a comic host demanding you produce a minimum number of panels “per page” (im old lol bear with me) in order to be granted the golden laurels of “publication” (another choice the artist makes is the choice to pursue becoming a “webtoons original” as a financial goal. i think this is wildly unreasonable for every reason. but whatever. you might as well bet on winning the lottery). im going to talk about the bizarre mentality i cannot wrap my head around when it comes to what people are expecting when they sign up for a website that openly flaunts how disinterested it is in anything other wringing its user base financially dry.
if webtoons is not interested in anything other than financial gain and their purpose is to make more money every quarter at any cost, then why would that mentality not directly impact and poison the relationship between you and your audience, as well as your relationship with your art?
but lets put even THAT aside. god there’s so much i could hammer on. i will just focus on audience right now.
1. the quantity of an audience is not proportional to the quality of the audience. i dont think anyone is going to debate with me that the webtoons audience is good lol. this is because the webtoons userbase is comprised almost entirely of random teenagers and adults under 25. this age range is permitted to act like insane hooligans (to an extent) because that’s what the vast majority of us were like in some capacity or another at that age. i frequently hear complaints from creators about how their webtoons audience are frequently ungrateful, irrational, and impatient to them. this is the obvious outcome when two parties, especially parties that are doing business with each other, are shoved together due to algorithmic decisions and not by their own volition. both parties have been robbed of the opportunity of building up a relationship of trust and respect between the artist and the audience. however, building up this relationship takes time. and people want to be be making money as artists right now. presumably.
2. the primary purpose of an audience is not to obtain money from them. at least, dear god, i really hope this is not the idea driving people’s desire to do webcomics as a career. the creators entering the field with this mindset are DOA, straight up. even if you were capable of hiding your odious motivations, whose money are you willing to pursue? would you change your comic if it meant making more money from the audience? do the highest bidders influence the artistic choices being made? is that the relationship you want with your audience? in that case, why not just take furry porn commissions, a field which makes fucking stacks upon stacks of cash? why bother with webcomics and all this extra work?
3. why would an audience of teens and young adults have money to spare? lol for real tho. teens dont often have unfettered access to cash. college age adults are famously deeply in debt to the nightmare state we live in. to jump into this audience with your hands held open is going to result in disappointment when they’ve already prioritized giving what little they have to artists they already know. i dont know what people are expecting with this one. it’s like panning for gold in a swimming pool.
this doesnt even touch on the uglier stuff. but the choice to go all in with webtoon is foolish, selfish, motivated by greed and childish false promises of fame. i do not have any respect for the artists that line up in the hopes that they can simply “jump the line” and skip one of the most, if not the single most, important aspects of a career in art, as though it’s a tutorial mission they are simply too advanced and skilled to sit through. i am not going to feel bad for or comfort the people who saw a company strangling and smothering everything it touches, a company that is subjecting its customers into increasingly more incremental means of payment, a company that has objectively unreasonable demands for the art they host compared to what they pay out, AND WILLINGLY SIGNED ON TO SECURE THEIR OWN BAG.
so that they didnt have to build an audience! the fuck!
my assessment is that to use webtoons is to have a vast amount of disrespect for your audience.

🤲💋✨️💝💌
(writing asks!)
🤲what do YOU get out of writing?
OMG I DONT KNOW! Like why do creative people feel the need to make stuff, I can't explain it. I just know that it's what I want to do as a creative outlet. And like usually (NOT LATELY BECAUSE THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS MY LIFE HAS BEEN A DISASTER) I reserve 9-10pm every night as WRITING TIME and like, it's not a chore for me! It's like a reward at the end of the day. So I spend all day thinking about what I'll write at 9pm when it's writing time. :D So there's like the half of it that's creative & spiritual to do, and also the half that's just like, my little Me Time that I allow myself that helps me unwind. :D
💋when you leave comments on a fic, do you want to hear back from the writer?
I DO but I don't get offended if they don't reply lol. But like ngl, if I notice a fic author doesn't reply to comments, I am less likely to leave a huge comment. Like one time I left a BOOK REPORT on a fic and the author replied to like, everyone EXCEPT me who was leaving emojis and stuff? And I felt really bad like I made them uncomfortable or something. So like. I tend to comment as I read and I like to copy & paste lines in and stuff, but if the author never replies I'm less likely to take the extra time to do this because I don't know if it's well received. 😅
✨What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)
jkgald wording it like that makes me squeamish but I felt like the gangbang fic I wrote for the BDSM zine kinda flopped 😬 like it has some comments and people who did comment were really excited but like, proportionally to my other Sheith fics it didn't do well. And I wasn't sure if it was like TOO MUCH or something, bc it got a lot of hits but not so many comments, like it made me wonder if people opened the link out of curiosity but then noped out. Like I have Sheith fics with less hits that have 2 or 3x the comments. Whoops! And I wonder if I overcomplicated it. IDK!!!!!!!!!! But I was happy with how it came out so it's not necessarily that I would want to like fix or anything. I just felt sad that no one liked it. 😂
💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
I think maybe The Front ? I was a little overwhelmed by the response bc I thought I was being like extremely self indulgent and niche about my own kinks and people wound up being like SO excited and kind and generous with comments it just really surprised me. 😳 LIKE YOU DONT EVEN LEARN KEITH'S NAME FOR 21K, I was calling him "the creature" LMAOOOOOOOOOOO it just was like so extremely catered to my own individual needs I was surprised. 😂
💌share something with us about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited!
For Sheith right now I'm back to working on my fic Tonight the Stars Revolt! which is like a retelling of canon if they were friends with benefits who kept fooling around after near death missions to relieve stress and like I WROTE THE FIRST 50K IN A MONTH on my break after my first ship contract and I didn't intend for it to get so complicated and plotty and I also absolutely did not intend for the last few chapters to be like A YEAR APART FROM EACH OTHER but I kept getting distracted doing exchanges and stuff, and I kinda try to like alternate Sheith and VC so I'd write a chapter, then write a VC fic, then it was time to go back to Sheith but I had an exchange, then VC, then a zine, then VC, etc. It just really got away from me but like it's my baby and it's where I pour all my meta and headcanons and I think about it constantly so every time I return to it I'm very exciting! The upcoming chapter includes a flashback about BABY KEITH and his DAD and a SNAKE and I'm really excited about it. :)
FOR VC IM FOAMING AT THE MOUTH OBSESSING OVER WRITING A FIC ABOUT THE YEAR MARIUS WAS HELD CAPTIVE AND THE SEXUAL TENSION BETWEEN HIM AND HIS CAPTOR AND THE STAGES OF GRIEF FOR HIS FREEDOM, I hope to start writing it maybe in the new year hdkjslgasgdjal I can't stop thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey so after rewatching r1ct for the 19th time maybe i should actually get around to sendig asks abt it SO HEY i've been trying to make a more abstract sort of story and it seems i have trouble with ... being abstract in general. i usually can't come up with any sort of weird imagery or storylines without borrowing heavily from something else. it's highly inconvenient. How do you go about the concept process for your films ? any major takeaways from art school or things i should try ? :0
Wow. this is like the last ask i ever expected to get so first of all thank you for watching R1CT....19 times?!?? this may be hyperbole but either way thank you. its a project that went through a lot of stages and changes and difficulties and it means a lot to me
*puts my hands on your shoulders*i have to tell you something. there is no way you can come up with shit without referencing or borrowing from others' work. im working on a zine/book/thing about the entire journey of making it but basically my"concept process" was a 30-month mess that started out with 1 sketch on the train, which became an idea for a way too ambitious yet still half-assed fully hand-drawn second-year film..but put through the play-doh spaghetti machine of covid i started having a different relationship with myself, with my computer, with my computer-self.. and it morphed slowly and weirdly into wut it is i guess. i dont think i could recreate those circumstances if i tried lol. but yea im rambling too much so let me actually try to answer your question
so ya like i said its actually important and beneficial to borrow from other peoples works. i definitely have the privilege of going to art school to help with that cause i was exposed to a variety of different media and art and obscure films i probably wouldnt have seen otherwise. but i will say itll serve u well to branch out and look at art forms other than the one youre studying, even stuff that seems boring or not relevant. and combine the elements that inspire u the most and make something of ur own. some big inspirations that went into the melting pot early on were: the movie la selva oscura by carlos santa, the opening for the 1974 anime majokko megu-chan, the 1983 movie rock & rule, the matrix, movies by gregg araki, roberto rossellini, david lynch(sorry), elaine may, jonni phillips(to whom i owe so much), among many others; the animated series transformers: beast wars, sally cruikshank's quasi at the quackadero, the artworks of fernand leger and leopold survage (both part of the Cubist scene but had a conceptual interest in filmmaking)...... yeah i could go on for a really long time. (i guess i already did). if you look at this stuff you can probably see lots of elements of these things, in r1ct but it still ended up being something at least semi-original.. so yea go to the library look at art books watch old movies, find stuff u hate, find stuff u like. absorb shit and make shit. dont be afraid to do something way different than what youre used to. basically just go crazy
shoutout 2 any1 who managed to read through this whole thing LOL. i encourage you to check out at least one of the things or artists i mentioned here and yea.. thank you again:)i hope you can look forward to more works in the R1CT cinematic univere

Hullo again and thank u for ur reply! 🤗 I bought Affinity Publisher since it was on sale :) I was wondering though how u were able to do single pages and double pages on your PDFs? I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a PDF like that. And Google isn’t helping 😨😢 Thank u again!
Hello again Anon! I'm so glad!! I hope you and Affinity get along 🙏
I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, so I'll just cover a few things:
To switch between double and single pages for the whole document, you'll want to go into Document Setup and switch from Facing Pages to Single pages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for in zines where I use single pages for the fics and single-page art, but "double" pages for spread-sized art, I made a little hack for myself >;3c
(I probably didn't invent this, but I've never seen any other zine layout do it, lol)
The "double" for the spread art is literally just a single page, but with its size changed to be as tall and wide as two regular pages side by side. (You don't want to do this for a print copy bc of bleed and stuff, but it's OK to change sizing around page to page for a purely digital zine, and it makes it much MUCH easier to read on mobile! Since all zines I do layout for usually include alt text/hyperlinks/other digital enhancements, I redo the page sizing as well when I create the digital PDF from the PDF we send to the printers. Because it's important to me that the digital product have just as much love in it as the print copy. I hate it when I buy a digital zine and it feels like an afterthought, like they just threw out the same file from the printer bc the digital copies aren't as important, y'know?)
Anyway </soapbox> lol, to achieve this you'll just want to set the whole document to single pages, and make a few different Master pages - one for your fic layout, one for your regular sized art, and one double-sized Master page for the big spread art.
You can change the page size for this last one in Document Setup, it's a little fiddly - make sure only the one master page is selected, and then double the width of the page (the smallest number).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then apply your Masters to the actual pages of your zine, using only the one with funky sizing for the pages you want to appear as "two" pages/ a spread. (A dialog box will come up like 'im scared the sizes are different!!!!' just hit yes and let it resize em)
Ta-da! Fake 'toggleable' facing pages, without using actual facing pages because I hate them ♡ I hope this was helpful!!!

I need a side job for an online shop but I can't afford a printer to make stickers or art posters what are your suggestions of other craft things I could learn?
I thought about pins but I'm not sure how they're made.
this ask actually came at a funny time cause i am closing my etsy shop until further notice cause im not really interested in selling rn haha, but!!! i do have some ideas for you!!
clay pins! these can be really fun to make and i think theyre still popular! theres a lot of tutorials on youtube on how to make them, but youre gonna need white clay and paint (or colored polymer clay if you dont want to paint them), pin backings (you can get these at any craft store) and something to seal them (you can use mod podge or polymer clay glaze for this!) theres a lot of fun designs you can make for these and theyre cheaper than making enamel pins
painted wood things! if you are artistic and can paint stuff, get some mini wood circles/hearts and paint a design, then superglue on a pin backing, then boom its a pin! this is an alternative to clay pins if you dont want to deal with clay haha. i can find small wood pieces at any craft store for cheap and i have too many of them lying around lol
go to any store that does printing and print stuff if you dont have a printer! for awhile before i got my printer i would order printed stuff from staples for cheap. id look into this if you have a lot of ideas for art prints or zines, theres a lot of options!!
if you have some cash to spare, look into stickerapp!! they print die-cut stickers and sticker sheets, and they havent failed me yet, all their stuff turns out good and they have options for different quantities of stickers.
you may want to look into digital products if youre tech savvy! on etsy you can make good passive income from digital items like downloadable prints, digital stickers, desktop icons, templates, etc. this is kinda a hard market to get into cause theres a lot of competition, but theres a lot of different things you can do with digital products.
going back to clay cause its the most affordable thing i feel, you can make trinket dishes, charms for jewelry, keychains, figurines, etc. people always seem to be interested in little things like that, and i feel like clay, especially polymer clay can be a fun rabbit hole to dive down with all the different tutorials and things you can do with it out there :) air dry clay stuff is great too!
resin can be touchy for some people cause it can be messy and toxic if you dont have good ventilation, but i used to make shaker charms with molds i got for like 2 bucks off etsy as well as jewelry! check out some tutorials for this one if you'd like to get into this world, it can be fun!
if you want to get into button pin making, id check out badge-a-minit! they were my first intro to pin making, and you can get a starter kit for like $30 i think?? the price may have changed but thats what i paid for like 3 years ago lol
do you know how to crochet?? crochet plushies and even digital patterns are still super popular!! its fun and relaxing too if you want to get into it
overall these are the first things that popped into my head when it comes to crafty things to sell, i hope it was somewhat helpful ;_; if you'd like to really dive into the world of products and marketing for artists, i highly recommend checking out kelsey rodriguez on youtube!! she has lots of good advice for artists and just recently came out with a video specifically for products that artists can sell!

100 Days of Productivity
Summer Goals Completed
33/100
Ohhhh I kind of want to be more consistent with these but I've been so busy with traveling and packing and work.
I've officially completed my summer goals!
I made a zine. It made my boyfriend cry glkdfjglkfd bc it was about genders and jellyfish. I made it for my parents... they haven't read it though.
Found a name. I'm now beginning the legal process of changing it.
Wrote hella letters. Was the first goal I completed tbh.
Long essay is basically complete. I just have to actually do the effort of editing now
Other Goals completed:
update calendar
grad school advisor meeting
traveling and packing
Goals to do:
Actually write a letter of resignation and quit this hellscape job
set up time line for grad school applications
finish moving to new apartment
Go to see bf finally hehehehe
Email for letters of reccs for grad school
research the GRE and study/set up to take that exam
Journal :(
10 things im proud of
I'm proud of making the zine. I was nervous but I spent a lot of time painting it and stuff
I'm proud of being more assertive with my parents. it's only slightly but it's there.
I'm proud of making it to the end of the month without doing a bad™
I made some lil art! That was fun/nice
Telling someone I was too tired for them to come over at night. Holdin that boundary
Talking to people about my anxieties and concerns. Not just going silent. I gotta remind myself to not just cut people off but also object permanence happens and I forget that im allowed to bother people. SO actually talking to people has been- helpful
Taking initiative in grad school applications. I want to remind myself that this isn't a one shot situation. I have all my life to apply. If I can't this year, that's okay. I can apply again.
I've actually been reading which is nice. I don't usually expect myself to read and do my fun little things while at home. But i've been able to do that and it's been bringing me some peace.
driving. I hate driving, it makes me anxious. But I need to do that where I am right now. And it makes me uncomfortable but I've been able to do it and feel confident in it again.
Using my newer coping tools whenever I get stressed. Lil Tåsi the manta ray has been good. Ive been taking my meds and eating well. I have been drawing, turning to other tasks whenever the desire to do a bad arises and im glad for that distraction stuff. Documentaries ive learned helps out too. lol

In lieu of the more taxing asks, I was wondering what is something about ZIne #4 that the moderators are most excited about? (please ignore if you can't answer without unwanted spoilers!) Thanks for all your hard work !
Hi!! Thank you for the kind ask!
Mod Ayesha: the thing i look forward to the most for any volume is finally being able to hold the physical zine in my hands. knowing how much time and effort went into it, holding it for the first time and looking through it is so special
Mod Grace: i think im most excited to see all of the art and writing and merch come together. there's just something really special about a bunch of people creating for the love of it-especially if it's for a ship we all love! it’s also reassuring to know that we’ll be helping our friends/family/community though this project.
Mod Demi: I'm most excited to see how much we end up getting to donate to charity. That's my favorite part lol
Mod Lisa: OMGGGGG honestly my favorite things about the zine are working with everyone on a big fun project!!!! and also i always have a lot of fun seeing how people react to getting their copies in the mail because they get so excited!!! and it feels really nice to know we helped make someone smile!
Mod Batten: I am excited to see contributors' ideas start as little summaries and watch them evolve into finished pieces!

my 2020 fic writer wrap-up!!
this is going to be incredibly long (a total of 1.1k lmao) so imma put a cut here, but basically thank you for being here all throughout my 2020! i appreciate you all very much <3
fav kind of fic to write:
i love writing about mutual pining slow burn process of getting together but i have NEVER WRITTEN ONE IN MY LIFE so i hope to change that in 2021
in 2020 i discovered??? humour??? so i enjoy writing about that and when people tell me i’ve succeeded in making them laugh it’s all 😳😳😳 for me
hardest fic to write but also most proud of:
to write you a song was a fic i struggled with from all of april to june which is very long?? to me??? considering i usually sit down and write things in one seating. fully fleshed ideas don’t usually take me thaaaaaat long to crunch out, but for some reason i struggled bad with this bc I really didn’t know where i was going w it lol
LA LA LAND gets an honorary mention of it’s own simply because it was 44k, and it took me all of july-september, but it’s something i still am proud of! to show how difficult it was to write/plot here’s the spreadsheet i had to use to keep track of the scenes and the chapters djkgfsjdfkjhgd
Shout out to kiroiimye , sweet , sirius and krypt for keeping my sanity intact
easiest fic to write:
this genshin impact fic: The Land Favoured by the Wind but its because ive been thinking about this idea for more than a month lol so the actual writing and editing took me less than 3 hours
there were several others too, bc ideas then to hook themselves to me then refuse to let go fjshlfgdfsg
fav fic to write:
Most definitely this sakuatsu monstrosity here by the name of Miya Atsumu's unwavering love for Sakusa Kiyoomi and an unholy amount of terrible food analogies that should not have the right to Exist lol, I only came up with the idea of Atsumu asking Osamu how to make friends bc I was friendship pining for someone at the time and then proceeded to write the entirety of it in a feverish daze! It’s as of rn my top hit / kudoed / bookmarked fic on ao3 and man, thanks for liking this as much as i did :’D
writing sequence:
i have to write from start to finish lmao i cant move on if the fic isnt chronological? the only exception was la la land bc it was too long and i had help from the spreadsheet so i alr knew where i was going i just had to write it down dfhdsfksfksdfhjg
deleting works:
the only fics i remember deleting are both first chapters of a multichap, bc i dont like having unfinished pieces on ao3, and far less if im not sure if ill finish them/if i dont know where im going w it!
if it’s dark history of shit 15 year old me wrote imma keep it there! it is an archive after all. go on, judge my fics from 5 years ago ahahahaha
best writing advice:
not a general thing and might just apply tome, but i tend to write in very convoluted ways and squish a lot in my sentences, or add to many unnecessary commas, so i received advice recently about being more mindful of the pacing and it’s helped me a lot!
worst writing advice:
none at the top of my head djgfkdsjfh if it’s bs to me i just forget it entirelyyyy
collab:
@actuallyasweetpotato (also aforementioned sweet) and i did a thing for bokuaka week!!!! you can find it here:  under my breath and into your scarf
wips:
9 unfinished zine pieces, 3 commissions, 1 exchange piece, about 10 or so other things
fav story of another writer:
favourite things
manly man falls for manliest man krbk fic!!!
gently, like a winter wind iwaoi birthday fic
sunchaser krbk fic
JUNO atsuhina fic

and shoutout to tien , sirius for fan art, fan comics, fan animatics of fics ive written, and shoutout to akemiiiii for this song they wrote i am eternaally grateful
worst review:
no negativity today!
prequel/sequel to other people’s fics:
none at the top of my head hm, but if anything probably any of kiro skk stuff
do i reread my stuff:
yes, but only if they’re old enough for me to go “it’s okay even if i dont like it bc this is old”
published:
hopefully! even though i do take part in zines and i guess they already have been published in a broad sense
fav/least fav chara to write:
no one at the top of my head! it’s instinctive for me to go ahead and think about character motives whenever i come across them, so if i ever write about someone, i usually just put my spin/interpretation of a character in a way that i can comprehend. the pros of this is i can write about many people, and the downside is that these characterisations can come off as out of character to anyone who doesn’t agree w me hehe
deadlines or goals:
if it’s a oneshot that’s under 3k i usually aim to have it done within 24 hours of beginning the fic. even tho i rarely succeed, having that as a goal usually pushes me to get it done faster than i would have if i had no goal altogether! if it’s anything long i aim for 1k a day, tho rn all my deadlines are zine deadlines and on top of that there’s uni, so to say im not stressing about writing would be a lie LOL
fav writers: (am too shy to tag but i swear these people are literal gods)
chonideno (mag): tumblr | twitter | ao3
batman (teesta): twitter | ao3
maplefudge (raei): tumblr | twitter | ao3
trope never written, would like to try:
aforementioned SLOWBURN MUTUAL PINING ANGST W A HAPPY ENDING GETTING TOGETHER!!!
but also royalty au
trope you will never write:
haha loads
how long have you been a writer:
began writing around may of 2014!! it was a horrible piece but im glad i started somewhere
influences:
chonideno/mag is one! maggie stiefvater who wrote the raven boys is also one, among many others
hardest part of writing:
writing action? writing things that are happening right now, describing people talking, eating
easiest part of writing:
descriptions of people, places, feelings. internal monologues, the like
best part of writing:
sharing how i perceive the world w other people, and discovering other people agree
wip sneak peek:
cw: hanahaki, falling out of love
this was written in a friend’s dms lmao this is why i sound like this
Tumblr media
something unique i bring to all my stories
i had a revelation the other day after talking to all my friends and realised i have really pretentious titles
IF YOU’RE HERE
did you know the wc of this thing is 1k words? idk why you stuck through all of that but thank you. i’ll keep writing in 2021, and all the years after that, and i hope i’ll find you doing things you love too :)

this might be odd but i really admire your work for law in that op zine and was wondering how you'd manage to come across zines to apply for because it's hard to filter through results on twt and hard to find exactly who is doing what
hey anon, thank you so much! i'm really happy with how that law fic turned out, glad you like it!
not odd at all, i agree it's hard to filter zines! let's see if i can help. this got a bit long bc i misread the question and talked about finding zines to apply for as well as generally what i keep in mind when choosing what zines i apply to so im putting it under a cut
best generally / for fandoms you're already deep in/ fandoms you're less invested in and just happen to think are neat if they pop up. for the op tarot zine, and most zines i applied to/ got into, usually i heard about via word of mouth. so that's reblogs of the promo posts or casual mentions from people I follow, or discord servers, or just chats with friends in that fandom. i like this method because it's the lowest effort and highest likelihood of matching my interests and having the apps still open, and they tend to be a little more reliable bc you already have one layer of someone checking them out/ vouching for them. (but bear in mind i'm also someone who mostly only reads recommended fics from friends whose taste i'm familiar with)
second best/ new fandoms/ fandoms you're not established in. here we have to actually search (boooooo) (i'm lazy lol). you can still use the first method a little bit by searching on the page/blog of a creator you like in that fandom, because that helps filter a bit for interests/ style/ taste/ reliability. i also searched [fandom name] zine or variations. so like "#ygozine" or"yugioh zine" when I was looking for yugioh zines to join. then i consider the application open ones to see if i like the theme, and whether the other details work for me (eg amount of work expected, schedule, rules, faqs, charity/profit, mods, physical/digital only etc).
zine promo / app amalgamation sites. it's pretty easy to find them by looking at existing zines promo posts and seeing the amalgamation blogs/accounts they tag. i don't really use them that much so i can't really recommend specific ones, and the ones i know don't sort easily by fandom or deadline stage, so it's too much work for me personally. i might browse them a little to try my luck but it's the highest effort for the lowest reward. still worth a shot if you can define your search terms well or are willing to trawl. I'd try by just searching the fandom confined to the blog/page. (on tumblr you can do this by adding "/search/[fandom name or shortname]" to the end of the URL.)
very established in a fandom/ willing to ask randomly. you might get invited or someone might drop you an ask saying hey check this zine out they're looking for writers/ other types of creators. you can also just do a general post asking for help like "does anyone know of any zines for [fandom] that are open to apps?" personally and from what i gather from friends, just because they're recommendations doesn't mean that they will necessarily match what you look for in projects but they're worth checking out bc the person recommending usually has some idea of your likes/style/fit. this method has a lot of constraints obviously.
when applying... it may be worthwhile to consider why you're interested in joining, what they are looking for, how many slots they have for what kind of creators, how popular the zine is, what you "specialise" in for the fandom, what your best skills are, what the mods might be looking for (most if not all zines require you to submit sample work). tailor your application. of course, not all zines take writers so your options here might be a little limited (though i'm happy to say i feel like including writing is becoming more common). at the same time, a lot of people underestimate themselves, so definitely apply if you want to even if you feel you might not get in. i think this is probably not what you're asking about though so i wont belabour the point
be careful. i have had the good fortune to have only been in "okay" to "amazing 10/10 extremely trustworthy" zines so far (fingers crossed), but i do have a couple of friends who were burned by dishonest or unreliable zine management before, so do take care! you can save yourself a lot of heartache at the stage when you check out the zine you are applying to. some general indicators for me are whether mod skills cover necessary categories (zines are essentially a business venture and i feel like a lot of people underestimate or do not give enough respect to that); mod experience, age, personal reputations; how questions, rules, schedule, expectations, compensation/charity are addressed. Also these are after joining, but mod treatment of contributors via email or in the discord server and how assignments are handled are early enough that you can form your own assessment and drop if necessary.
take care of yourself also i feel like in these trying times i want to add a note on mental health. i see this too often in my friends, but if your personal circumstances change and you feel like you can't handle the zine obligations anymore, just drop. early is better than late for both you and the organiser, and respectful communication of "sorry i can't be part of the zine anymore for personal reasons" is totally fine. you don't have to disclose anything you don't want to in order to leave and no one can force you to. it's also okay if you don't get into a zine. it doesn't say anything about your worth as a person, even though we as creators can feel rejection of our work very deeply. take time to recover, block/mute/unfollow whatever keywords or accounts you have to for even the tiniest of arbitrary reasons (i absolutely do and highly recommend it), take time to nurture your skills, take time to make things that bring joy, take time to appreciate yourself and the people who like your work. maybe i'm just old/lucky but fandom has been an incredibly accepting and enjoyable place and rejection from a zine (though it can hurt like a bitch sometimes) is not rejection from the community.
i hope this was helpful!

Hii I’m an artists who needs help selling online so Im not a starving artist. Pls help
Hello!
Selling online advice... kind of really depends on what you’re looking to sell. There are certain markets that are really saturated, but if you get a leg in you can really succeed. There are some that are all but dead, and you get stragglers every once in a while but it’s mostly your friends XD. There are some that aren’t even a thing yet, and you have the chance to be the first to really get selling in that niche. So, it’s kind of hard to give general advice because it really depends on what things you want to sell. I can give some examples, though.
Pins: A saturated market, but if you’re doing something original you can break in pretty well. A lot of out-of-pocket cost and risk if you don’t know for sure that you have buyers, especially your first time. It also runs a risk of a bad pin-make depending on who you go with, as mistakes happen, and more and more companies are popping up claiming to be the ‘cheapest’ when they’re really just making poor quality pins. I’ve seen great success for first-time and returning pin artists with kickstarters, though! It’s a great way to get the money and orders together in a way that you know will make the order worth the cost, and give you and idea of who’s interested and might come back for another round. I highly recommend doing the research for pin companies, and taking a look at how some folks run Pin Patreons. (A heads up: most pin makers will not tell you who they work with to get them made. They’re kind of secretive about it.)
Stickers: Another market that seems saturated, until you take a closer look and realize that there’s so many unique designs out there and styles of stickers. This is another one where you have to be careful who you print with, if you aren’t printing at home, and if you order before you know you have the sales and interest. It’s another one where people make Sticker Clubs at certain Patreon levels to make it interesting and collect a certain amount of buyers that you’re sure will cover the cost. (you might want to avoid Sticker Mule, they have bad connections to racist stuff etc.)
Pillows and dolls: A little less crowded of a market, and a lot of room for originality and growth. It’s a LOT of work, though, if you’re doing the sewing and stuffing yourself. If you’re ordering dolls or pillows stuffed and printed with a company, be aware that the cost is HIGH! People will probably complain about how much you have to charge for them. You have to be sure you have those orders and the money to start, which means Kickstarters are another great way to do plushy/doll/pillow selling.
Art prints: relatively easy market, especially since it’s 100% your art just printed out lol. Finding a good printer and good prices is a little not fun, but it’s a great way to get income while working on stuff you enjoy and not always catering to custom stuff or marketing. This is a good idea to have on the side of other marketing stuff, for fans or friends who really want to hang your artwork in their home. :)
Custom products: This can be a saturated market, if only because there’s tons of companies offering custom things like bags and shirts and stuff and anyone can slap something on a shirt now and charge $40. One good trick is to have a unique collection or style of things, or a theme. (Ex: Pokémon themed, witches, cats, plants, etc,) The other thing is finding the right printer for these products. There are a few companies to avoid, so it’s a good idea to type company names into google and add ‘reviews’. You’ll see a lot of shady practices, sometimes also companies outright supporting groups or people you don’t agree with or want anything to do with. Also, a huge number of these companies are in Hong Kong or China, so be aware that the shipping times are much longer than local places, and even longer due to COVID at the moment. Another huge part of this is how custom are you going. Are you drawing custom body pillows? Or are you selling body pillows you already designed? Once you get into doing custom commissioned products, pricing needs to go UP! Think of the time spent, not just the cost of the product being printed!
Books/comics/zines:
Augh. Okay, so be very careful with printers here. Be careful of your rights, be careful of the rights of fan works and the rules of certain printers. In this case, there’s a lot of options, but the prices vary a LOT. So another case of doing a lot of research, and being ready to drop a large chunk of money for that order. (Again, Kickstarter is a good way to get things going.) For printing, remember CMYK! Edge bleeding! Page layouts! (Also maybe avoid Ka-blam)
Okay, so those are some examples of things to sell and such, now where to sell... Augh. Etsy is great for a lot of reasons, and bad for a lot of reasons. 80% of my sales on Etsy are through Etsy itself. Barely anyone follows links to my store from anywhere else, and most of the traffic to my store is directly from people searching for stuff on Etsy. This is great exposure to buyers, but it comes with some... problems. There’s a lot of junk on Etsy, and a 99% chance someone is selling the thing you want to sell for cheaper and it’s not even custom or anything like that. It’s a weird market. The other side of it is Etsy takes a pretty good chunk of change from each sale, each listing, each re-listing, etc. so that’s something you have to take into consideration. But they also let you print/buy shipping labels through them, which can make organization of orders much easier.
An alternative is Storenvy, which has similar problems but is a different type of market. It’s actually a little harder to sell on there in the way Etsy sells. You’re more likely to make sales through a link, it seems.
There’s other online shop options that let you keep your sales with no selling fees, but a lot of them... cost money to get the website so.
I’m sorry if this isn’t really helpful, but it really depends on what you’re planning to sell and where. Things like Patreon clubs and kickstarters can be helpful, but also require a lot of preparation of information, prices, what you’re going to offer, etc. Online stores can be a little easier to set up, but also require you to either have stock ready or be ready to ‘make to order’. So, it’s not super easy to start, but once you get going it can be really rewarding. :)

“feeling like a rotisserie chicken weather” FHSKFHKSDF yes!! but it honestly sucks when it gets any hotter bc we don’t have central cooling in our house so rip... and my laptop fan goes crazy ahaha. 30 degrees being unheard of.. can’t relate! fsdfjs. have you guys had to adjust to those changing temperatures? rip climate change tho :’(
<333 i do!! i usually walk to the local park and then the streets around that.. omg speaking of... do you play pokemon go? DHAFKHSDKFHSKDFHKSDH i got back into it again recently ahaha. it’s for a free bakudeku zine!! hehehe it’s out at the end of jan so 👀
i just checked and the event is open !!!!!!!!! good luck hehe !
yup lost riches!! and the event opens at 4am server time, so since i’m in asia i get it earlier hehe which colour seelie are you gonna go for tho omg i was debating it with my friend last night.. i’m gonna pick gold!!
baby bennett!! that’s true but i can’t risk getting a 5 star otherwise my pity will reset for xiao fhdskfhskjfhkjshkfj next time :(((( but albedo /is/ super pretty and i see a lot of people saying they like him... NO !!! xiao only >:( no omg i don’t think i’ve seen those clips ? is it mmd where they like dance to other songs and stuff ahah

yes pls!! sending something bnha is fine too, or legit anything else lmao i’m open arms over here~~ 🤗👐 and ooft... it’s hard thinking of prompts that’s why i always ask others HSDKFJHSDKFHSD but i’ll let you know if i think of something!!!
(no clue!!!! but we could each write from a character’s POV so hopefully it’s more consistent 🤪🤪 idk i have no clue how fic collabs work AHAHA)
yeahhh one of my mutuals said “social media is a curse” and honestly hard agree.. we’re all kinda trapped in a way LMAO. and no pls don’t thank me.. you’re the one who found me first 😩💘 ily..
FSDHKJFS pls you’re making me blush come on 😳😳 but yes i love that for us... m.a. x c.r. the only valid ship 😩
woooo!!!! yeah you’re probably right, like given the fact he’s a 5 star his mechanics are probably different.. i know that diluc’s charged attack is different to the other claymore users so! IM GETTING MY XIAO!!!! and hm i’ve been saving since the middle of zhongli banner! so december 10 ish around then? dragonspine was a blessing tbh i reckon i got sooo many primogems from that. FGJKSHFKJSDHFKSDHSHKJFH my genshin sugar mummy 🥵🥵 c6 venti unstoppable..
AHAHAHA YEAH THEY LOOK /SO/ CUTE TOGETHER!!! i wonder how they got so many of the images tho like they must’ve been so in sync?!?!? ugh that could be us but no cross-server co-op be playin’.. (fhdskjfhdskjfhs um!! noted for future reference 🤪)
omg them.. i always forget about them LMAOOOOOOOOO ugh. actually i wouldn’t be mad if we got a prequel of like when keith was in the garrison... or even when shiro was with adam... ugh so much they could’ve given us and they chose not to
*waggles eyebrows* well hello there, m’lady ;) and it’s fine fhdskjf i had some inklings but didn’t wanna assume ya know? ahah :p
no!! it’s all g, i’ve thought about posting it before anyway. like, just releasing all of my WIPs and letting people do what they want with them HAAHA. (i could also just put the link under a read more and less people would see it, so it’s no biggie!) fkdshfkjs the hinata impression omg precious <33
FJHFDSKJ awks ahah which groups were you into tho! if it’s not like scarring for you to think back to LOL. and oooo i like indie too! i think.. or is it alt? honestly i don’t even know, tbh my music taste is pretty diverse and a mess, i can usually listen to a lot of things. except slow songs i don’t really like those hfdskj. and i don’t like rap too much either FHSDKJS whenever my friend gives me a rec i’m just like “oh i liked the singing parts in that” FDSKJF. a playlist tho huh 😳🥺
and pls!! if the weekend is your only chance to sleep in then do it.. for me 😩 i’ve been legit waking up at 12pm these past few days FKJHSKDF idek why like i’m sleeping 10 hours?? yikes. but as always i shall be waiting for your response <3 💌

k girl, Calum Hood for you!
p.s I fuckin love zines! that is sooo cool that you make them!
here we go:
-literally the first thing that popped into my head was that Calum looks up to you so much. ya know how he hasn't really had a girlfriend for a while? it means so much that he’s with you. you are his angel, his sun, his moon, the reason he wakes up in the morning.
-when I say he looks up to you, I really mean it. the fact that you makes zines blows his mind!
-he calls you his artist.
-also, ‘artsy fartsy,’ because he’s super playful around you.
-he totally wants to go to the Met Gala with you.
-you help him with his style!
-you pick out his outfits for shows!
-you make him feel confident and good about himself.
-he adores reading your creations. he loves them because you created them, they’re purely original, they’re your thoughts. through your poetry, he understands you better.
-you totally got him into making collages!
-and poetry, I feel like he’s really poetic.
-you two are really heartfelt.
-you two spend hours sitting on the floor of the living room, cutting out pictures from magazines and drawing, creating them into your own collages.
-then you put them on the walls.
-he says that he could stare into your eyes all day. they remind him of the ocean on an overcast day.
-by the way, he loves walking with you along the ocean shore on an overcast day. you two are all cuddled up in his hoodies, fingers intertwined.
-I feel like he loves to braid your hair.
-you two could talk for hours, never running out of conversation. but, you could also sit in comfortable silence.
-he loves learning more about you. not just what your favourite colour is, but about the little, lesser-known things: the time you were the star of the elementary school play, that time you talked about pancakes in your sleep... etc.
-HE! IS! SO! SUPPORTIVE!
-if you have an art show or a poetry reading, he will always be there. if he has to cancel previous plans, then so be it, when you are doing what you love he never wants to miss it.
-he’s really clingy.
-he calls you ‘doll.’
-he loves your style. whenever you say you look sloppy he immediately denies it. he hates when you put yourself down.
-you two love to go thrifting and to art sales.
-k, I imagine it being a summer day in L.A, approaching the sunset, orange and pink waves in the sky and you two dancing and singing your hearts out at a small outdoor concert.
-him letting you sit on his shoulders when you can’t see!
-he loves when you play with his hair.
-power suits for both of you.
-getting tattoos together!
-making cocktails for each other to try no matter how bad they are.
-he is gonna make sure you go to an art school, no buts. he is even more determined than you because he just wants you to be as happy as possible.
-HE LOVES YOUR DOG
-duke and your dog = best friends
-you two going on early morning walks as the sun rises with your pups
-he loves your dog like it’s his son. he insists that it is.
-watching Euphoria together and him getting ABSOLUTELY HOOKED.
- “Babeee, one more episode?” “Cal, we just watched the last episode of the season.” “WHAT!??!! NO I NEED MORE! GIVE ME MORE!”
-I feel like you two are soft but at the same time you’re that couple who arrives to a party on a motorcycle wearing leather jackets, boots and chains.
-he would go CRAZY when you walk out of your room to go to the party, standing in the doorway with red lips, tight pants, like thigh-high leather boots, a leather jacket and his chains!!!!
-he almost doesn't want you to leave the house because he wants to fuck you so bad.
-he keep his hands on you ALL NIGHT.
-you tease him ALL NIGHT.
-he gets jealous hella easily.
-totally overprotective.
-but he backs off when he reminds himself that you are a badass and can be independent.
-he’s really respectful and knows his boundaries.
-so, the night of the party, once you two get home he fucking destroys you (in the good way).
-DIRTY TALK ALL THE WAY!
-he knows not to mess with you. you may be shorter than him but you can destroy him in the good way too.
-he likes to be dom, but when he’s sub... WOW he loves it.
-he loves when you wear lingerie.
-strip teases... ;)
-you two are a total power couple!
I hope you like it!
- Winnie <3

Q&A Part 2
Q:  LET ME DRAW GANONDORF IM ALWAYS DOWN TO DRAWING GANONDORF PLEASE CAN I DRAW GANONDORF HOLY SHIT PLE ASE OH MY GOD ALSO CAN WE DO AU/REDESIGN VARIANTS FOR THE ZINE OR DO THEY HAVE TO BE CANON
A: Any dorf is welcome, both canon, non-canon, AU,  and design variants.
_____________________________________________________
Q: I’m interested in applying, but worried my current artistic skill isn’t at a high enough level to qualify for this zine, what skills specifically might be required??
A: It doesn’t hurt to apply! All you have to do is draw. We are trying to make this zine as inclusive as possible so there will be artists who make it to prints, and some who make it to the digital version. It’s Gan appreciation, and it isn’t appreciating him if not everyone can show their hype. Artists will also be asked to volunteer as a comic artist to partner up with fic writers to make it into the printed zine in the applications. I want this zine to be an eyeopener, and experience for those who are first timers in participating in a zine.  There are also experienced artists in there to help you, so if anyone here wants any advice on how to improve skill wise or for your piece, you can ask.
_____________________________________________________
Q:  I also want to be an artist but I couldn't pick that. So is it ok to be an artist and customer?
A: If you are an artist, and our funds allow us, those participating will be getting a physical copy of the zine. If not, then people will at least get a PDF version. You are free to buy a copy as an artist. Your money, your business lol.
_____________________________________________________
Q:   which ganondorfs are your favourites?
A: All of them, including CDI Gan.

Q:  What would the timeline of this zine be? Basically, for artists and writers who wish to be involved, what would the due date of material/s be?
A: We are coming up with Due dates and deadlines, but it will be a bit flexible due to some contributors having classes, trips, emergencies, and tests. We will be adopting Nintendo’s model, focusing on the health and lives of our contributors, and not forcing a crunch time; so no one is pressured and ends up dropping from the project due to the stress. There is still approximate deadlines, and it will be posted tomorrow, June 18. People cannot do their best, if they are not at their best, and we want this project the best it can be, even if it means delaying it a bit.

Q:  Are crossover AUs involving Ganondorf allowed? All of my AUs involving him are crossovers with other franchises.
A: That would be accepted as long as he is the main focus. And also sounds like a fun idea.
