synopsis: after distancing yourself from a friend you've unfortunately fallen for, the rest of the group catches onto her sour mood, and all fingers point to you

you and haerin always had something special between the both of you.

you two met in middle school, when your homeroom teacher was assigning seats. she was a quiet kid, and so were you, but one of you had to get over it. so when the class was given a paired activity to "get-to-know each other", you were forced to come out of your shell, and haerin welcomed you (surprisingly) warmly.

it started off as a strictly-seatmate type of friendship, where you two would only interact whenever it was needed. but as you spent more and more time working on assigned activities together, you were beginning to realize that maybe you enjoyed her company more than you thought, and so did she.

eventually, you two began spending time together outside of class; during recess, lunchtime, sometimes after class in the library. it didn't take long until the both of you became really close, a known tandem. you were her closest friend, she was yours, and everyone knew that.

over time, your friends became hers as well, and so whenever everyone was free, your little friend group composed of minji, hanni, danielle, haerin, hyein, and you, would hang out together. at a clubroom, the courtyard, the gymnasium, a cafe, the cafeteria, anywhere.

but no matter how many close friends surrounded you two, it seemed clear to anyone that you were closer to each other than anyone else. the same way hanni was to hyein, and minji was to danielle.

now your feelings for haerin grew a couple years later, and you only admitted them to yourself in your sophomore year of high school. that's about four years or so since you two met, and about a year ago from today.

from the beginning, you had always found haerin pretty. it wasn't hard to admit. she was nice to look at, and the way her cat-like eyes turned into crescent moons whenever she smiled ear to ear... yeah, you knew you were enjoying it a little too much.

and it only worsened the more you got to know each other, because you found out there were so many things to adore.

the way she wouldn't stop talking about frogs, her love for tomatoes, her eyes and the way she blinks slowly when she looks at something she loves (a cat-like habit you picked up when she was watching a recipe video for an avocado dish).

the list could go on and on if no one stopped you, and after talking about it to your mom (who was very supportive of everything, by the way), you came to the conclusion that you liked haerin, in a "more-than-a-friend way".

but you had no idea, not a single clue, on what to do with that realization. what would happen if you told her? if you didn't? would she feel the same? would she be disgusted if she didn't?

crushes and romance was one of the most untouched conversation topics between the two of you, so you had no idea if she was even open to such ideas.

but the one thing you knew for sure, was that she was your best friend, and you were hers. you loved your best friend, and so did she. in a different way, or not, you felt like she still deserved to know. you hated hiding things from her, and history proves it only made things worse whenever you did.

so you decided to confess. great!

and suddenly you see her acting all lovey dovey with danielle.

well, in retrospect, they weren’t exactly being lovey dovey, and you kind of knew that.

danielle was just big on affection, as she was to everyone, and is one of the few people whose pda was complied with (or tolerated) by haerin.

and despite not being much of a pda fan, in that moment, you badly wanted to be in danielle’s place, comfortably smothering your best friend with all the love in the world.

oh, and it didn’t help that people started a couple rumors about them being a couple.

sure, everyone knew you were each other’s number one, each other’s best of best friend, but the way you two showed affection with each other was very different from the way danielle does, to again, everyone, but you didn’t care about that.

the bitter sting in your stomach seeing the two of them made you realize that it was probably a much better idea to just get rid of your feelings (you’re an idiot, you’ve had them for years. they won’t just go away). after all you didn’t want to ruin what you had with two of your closest friends.

and with that goal in mind, so began your plan to avoid kang haerin at all costs!

you’re really stupid.

in the process of avoiding haerin, you indirectly were avoiding the rest of the girls too. you mostly hung out with your other classmates from different subjects like woonhak and eunchae. and whenever you were asked about it by hanni (mostly), you shrugged it off and said it was just “school things you needed help with”.

it was a dumb excuse. everyone knew you were at least top 5 of the class. and what kind of help were you getting if you were going out to places like arcades and karaoke spots anyways?

the girls were bothered, but not as much as haerin was. she was often visibly in a sour mood, ate half of her usual cafeteria servings, and would talk a lot less than she already did.

they were worried for the both of you simultaneously, but hyein and minji put two and two together, which only doubled their worry.

initially, it was just you and haerin's separate well-being they were concerned about, but now that they realized the time frame in which you began distancing yourself matched up with when haerin's mood went down, they were now also worried about what could've happened between you two.

so they took it amongst themselves to at least know what was going on.

"haerin-ah."

"haerin."

"kang."

"kang haerin!"

haerin looked up from her untouched tray of food, her chopsticks poking around slices of beef in sauce.

"hm?"

minji sat across her as the first two to arrive in their usual lunch table.

"i was asking if anything happened between you and y/n or something..."

"oh..."

haerin looked back down and continued playing around with her food before sighing and looking back up, muttering a couple words.

"wish i knew."

"y/n-unnie! is something up between you and haerin-unnie?"

"huh? what?" you were sat in the sound proofed booth of the music room, guitar plugged in an amplifier. you squinted at hyein's figure from outside the room, putting your guitar on its stand and motioning her to come inside.

"can you repeat that? i can't really hear anything from in there..." scratching the back of your neck, you gave hyein a seat from behind the booth's drum sets.

"i was asking!" hyein took a deep breath, you raised your eyebrows signaling her to continue. "if you and haerin-unnie have something going on."

"h-huh? what? what something?"

"no not like that! i meant you know, did you fight or... 'cause she's been so sour lately! she wouldn't even give me her leftover tomatoes... she wasn't even gonna eat them! like at all!"

the expression on your face shifted to what most would identify as worry and concern.

"...she hasn't been eating the tomatoes? she loves those..."

"yeah! and so much more! anyways, minji-unnie and i deduced it was about you, so here i am." hyein gleamed with pride while you chuckled in amusement.

you leaned over to mess with the top of her head and sighed, "i'll talk to her. you don't worry about a thing, okay?"

and you kept your word to the younger girl. how could you not?

you spotted haerin alone in one of the clubrooms, cleaning up some of the materials they used for the day. knocking on the room's door startled her a bit, given by the minor flinch, but she relaxed seeing it was you.

still, you could tell her facial expression was slightly guarded, and it hurt you, but you definitely deserved it.

she turned back around to continue organizing the materials into three separate boxes, not saying a word.

"hyein said you haven't been eating the tomatoes in your lunch." you slowly took your steps towards her and stopped when you were a couole steps away on the other side of the desk she used to arrange the items. "or your lunch at all..."

she paused to look up at you and give you a short glare, before walking to move a box to the teacher's desk in the room. you followed a few steps behind her, arms behind your back as your fingers fiddled with each other.

"you shouldn't... skip your meals, you know..." you muttered, clearly intimidated by haerin’s cold facade. "health... you need to eat..."

seeing as how you still had no reply, you decided it was probably best to just go straight to the point.

"hey... i'm sorry..."

you were used to haerin not saying that much, especially when you got to know her more and she explained that it was simply just too tiring. but you were also always the exception to that.

whenever it was just the two of you, one would be surprised to see haerin as the louder one. talkative, always rambling about something, while you smiled, nodded, and gave comments whenever necessary.

"yangi, please say something"

haerin loved that nickname more than anything. it was pretty foul to pull that card, actually. you came up with it when you two were having a friendly debate over what animal she resembled.

"i don't know where you're getting cat, y/n."

"are you crazy? how are you getting frog!"

"literally everything!"

"no. you're simply incorrect. you're literally a cat in human form!"

"absolutely not!"

"whatever you say, goyangi."

"what did you just call me?"

"go-yang-i. goyangi. go. yangi."

"you're so... annoying."

"okay, yangi."

she let out a frustrated sigh, looking up at you with what felt like her eyes piercing through your soul.

"so you get to disappear on me without a word, but i have to reply when you speak to me for the first time in 8 days?"

yes, she's been counting the days.

but wouldn't you be too if she did the same?

well, you probably would've confronted her a little sooner. but it's not that haerin didn't care enough to do something about it, she just genuinely didn't want to overstep space you might've been needing.

"thats what i thought." she let go of the box, turned her back, and walked back to the desks to grab the 2nd box.

"look... i'm sorry, i really am." you immediately caught up to her with a few steps, eyes pleading with nothing but guilt.

"if you are then can you at least tell me why you were avoiding me?"

she stared at you, observing how your thumbs rubbed over your fingers, or how your breathing got a little heavy, both nervous habits she picked up.

noting how you probably weren't going to say much anytime soon, she let go of the 2nd box to face you.

"you're my best friend, y/n"

that hurt didn't it?

a reminder that that was probably all you were going to be to her.

"do you know how..." haerin took a deep inhale, it was beginning to get shaky. her mind was a mess, thinking of the best words to express the hurt you made her feel over the past few days. but she couldn't.

"nevermind."

knowing the way haerin acted added on to your internal conflict. haerin usually wasn't afraid to speak her mind when it was just the two of you, but now she is. she couldn't. and you knew it was your fault.

but were you really ready to tell her you liked her? now? you wanted to show her you were sorry, but it really wasn't that easy.

if things go wrong, she could continue the game and avoid you forever. and just like that you'd lose your best friend, ruining the group's dynamics as well.

but you figured your brain was just making up excuses for you to not tell her out of fear. what mattered the most now was letting her know you were sorry, and that hurting her was never part of the plan.

"look, i'll tell you, because i really truly am sorry for hurting you," you start off, hands in the air motioning whatever. "but i-... i need you to promise me..."

"what?" her voice was much softer now. still cold, but not sharp enough to make it feel like you were stabbed every time she spoke.

"that you won't be... weirded out, or disgusted, or leave the room. you'll talk about it with me."

"you're the one whos been avoiding the talking y/n, i hope you know that."

you often forget how quick she was with her words. it was like a whip. painful, fast, happens before you even noticed it did. you were just so used to her nicer side. she's never been frustrated with you.

"right..."

you took a deep breath, mentally composing a script of how you felt and how you were going to say it. just like the million times you've practiced to the mirror at home.

"i've been avoiding you 'cause i think i like you. or, well, i know i like you. in a more than a friend way. and i have been for a while, and i was going to tell you because i didn't like hiding things from you, but i saw you with dani one day and i just- i don't know. okay? it's stupid. i know she's like that with everyone, but i didn't like it when she was with you, so i decided that i'd rather just get rid of how i felt to make it easier and to not ruin any of our friendships. so i figured the only way to do that was if i didn't talk to you. clearly that affected us both in a way i didn't want or intend. i'm sorry i ignored you. it was selfish of me to not think about how you could've felt throughout everything."

haerin took a minute just standing there, trying to process the hell of a bomb of information you just dropped on her. her cheeks were gradually growing red the more she realized what you were trying to tell her.

"hey... hello... did you hear what i was saying... or do i have to repeat it... because i'd really rather not..." you waved your palm in front of the girl who seemed to be frozen in place. "but if that's what it takes then i guess tha—"

you stopped talking as haerin slowly approached you, wrapping her arms around your waist and burying her face on your shoulder. she was careful to do so slowly, giving you a chance to move away if you needed to. she knows you're not into physical touch, and it just wasn't exactly the norm for the two of you.

"i was worried."

"hey, i've been eating fine. it's you tha-"

"no, not that. i was worried you might've overheard dani and i talk about you when i told her i like you, and that you were disgusted by it and didn't want to be... associated with me because of it. and maybe you just didn't know how to tell me so you went with the silent treatment.... i was going nuts, y/n. that's why hyein was talking about skipping lunch and whatever. all i could think about was why."

you could feel the guilt eating you up bit by bit on the inside. it quite literally broke your heart to hear haerin, the girl with not a lot of words, express the effect of what you did. it was like acid, burning up your stomach, your chest, your head. except that acid was guilt.

"oh god... i'm so sorry, yangi... the whole thing was a really selfish move and— and i should've thought about you first. i really am so so sorry..."

you held her closer and softly shifted your body weight from one foot to the other, swaying the two of you softly, somewhat like a cradle calming a baby down to sleep.

"hey... it's okay... i know you didn't mean it. i'm just glad we're fine now."

you two stay in that position for a couple of minutes, feeling each other relax over time as a result of finally resolving the conflict you had caused.

that was until haerin broke the silence.

"so... hate to be the person to ask but..."

"what are we?"

the two of you laughed for a while at how the question was so cliche and cringe yet necessary.

"yes."

"bff premium?"

"y/n!"

"i'm kidding! i'm kidding! but... i say we take things slow? get a little used to this, whatever it is, whatever it could be?"

"yeah, i like that."

the two of you smiled at each other with nothing but warmth and care, before ultimately pulling in for another hug.

"minji-unnie you owe me 2,000 won."

"hyein you're being too loud."

"huh do you hea-?..." haerin pulled away with a surprised face, interrupted by y/n quickly stomping towards the door, slamming it open to reveal minji and hyein falling forward to the floor. a result of relying on the door for support.

"seriously? i expected hyein, but minji-unnie?" you sighed in disappointment, haerin walking over to see what the fuss was all about.

"listen, it's for hanni she placed bets too."

"...lame excuse."

crying ik this is supposed to be cute and it is but im imagining anakin just knees to chest, high tailing it out to get to his baby and im just laughing tbh lmaooo

it was gloomy today, and it matched anakin’s mood. dark clouds matched his dark demeanor as he sat in the most boring of council meetings. the truth was, anakin was tired of the order. he often found himself in important meetings, thinking of you. the life you could live if he could just get AWAY. he thought about the house you’d have, the hills it’d be on, the forest that’d be near by. the planet. the places. the people. experiencing all of it with you. that’s what he couldn’t wait for, that’s what he worked tirelessly for.

“general skywalker, any thoughts?” master windu spoke up, interrupting anakin’s thoughts, annoying him.

“no, sir,” was all anakin said. “everything is in place in the utapau system.” he finished. master windu nodded, acknowledging anakin’s answer. the rest of the council continued to speak amongst themselves, going back to ignoring anakin. he didn’t mind though. more time to indulge in fantasy, imagine the life he wanted to build with you.

he felt a weird tug out of the door. down the hall. out the temple. he turned and looked behind him, seeing nothing there. he felt uneasy in his stomach, nervous. but it felt like they weren’t HIS emotions. for a brief moment, he sat dumbfounded, until he realized he was connecting with you when he heard you whining. it sounded distant, muffled, like underwater. he had an almost tunnel like vision and things began to blur. as master windu droned on, anakin nervously side eyed the door. he considered making a run for it, and truthfully just as he was about to, obiwan spoke up.

“masters, while i see the importance of this meeting, i must say it seems we’ve reached an impasse. might i suggest we take a short recess and reconvene in an hour?” he suggested gently, everyone nodding and agreeing amongst themselves. anakin silently thanked obiwan and hoped he got the message, as he didn’t stick around to find out. at the dismissal, anakin was running out of the door to you. his entire trek home was filled with thoughts of you, worrying about you, hoping you were okay.

as he got closer to home, it began down pouring. anakin could hear the thunder and see the lightning and knew this was a bad storm. no wonder you were scared!

back at the house, you sat in the small sensory tent your daddy set up for you in the corner of the bedroom. you held onto your stuffed teddy bear and sobbed at every loud crack of thunder. you couldn’t see ten feet in front of you due to the rain so you couldn’t even really look outside to see how bad the storm was. all you saw was darkness and rain, and it was barely afternoon.

another especially loud crack of thunder rang through the apartment, making you cry out. you hadn’t even heard your daddy come in but he had most definitely heard your sobs. he immediately rushed in, completely soaked from head to toe, not caring in the slightest. he just needed to get to his baby.

“baby, baby i’m here. daddy’s here.” he said, taking his cloak off so he wasn’t as wet when he went to touch you. he began rubbing your arms to try to calm you. “please open your eyes, daddy’s here.” he told you. you did just that and opened your eyes to the welcoming sight of your smiling daddy, ready to help however he could. you sighed in relief.

“daddy, i was so scared! i can handle small storms but this one is so loud!” you cried, hands over your ears. your daddy put his hands over yours, holding your face and making you look at him.

“i know, baby, this is a bad storm. it’s the rain season but even for the usual storms, you’re right, this one’s bad.” he agreed. you began to slow breathe to try to calm down. “good girl, all by yourself, i’m so proud of you.” your daddy told you, smiling. you felt much better and wiped your tears.

“daddy, you’re all wet.” you observed. he laughed and nodded.

“i ran all the way here, baby.” he said

“for me, daddy?” you asked and he smiled.

“always for you, baby. always.”

so like a lot of 2000s shit has been trendy again in a recycled and remixed way and it has moved past the y2k jelly cyber barbie internet explorer vibe and into the like earthy indie mood ring new age thing of like '07 - 2011 era (which has an abrupt shift imo in 2012 at which point i feel like social media + smartphone usage - holy shit do teens today even conceptualize like a smartphone as a thing vs just a phone or cellphone?anyways - hit a critical saturation point and trends spiraled so quickly they collapsed before they were marketable so idk if/how we'll have a 20teens revival in a few years) anyways but the best fuckin thing ive seen is the youths online calling the music/fashion/etc like "recessioncore" or like i saw "recession edm" and frankly i just fucking love that and also those were my preteen years so im HYPE for it coming back around

kind of a vent

ive had a really bad day. Lets start from the top. I had an overdue book that had been apparently out for 3 YEARS. and the money i had to pay the school back was $30. So today, i brought $30. During recess i go to the library with my two friends who i’ll call Fish and Ex-wife. Ok, so me, Fish and Ex-Wife were sitting at a table and talking, and i get up, i SHOW THEM THE CASH and i say “im gonna give this to the librarian for a book i never gave back, brb” so theyre both like “alr” so i tell the librarian about what happened and she asked me what book it was, so i say “if the world were a village”. She looked up my account and saw the book that was overdue and shes like “ok, you dont have to pay me right now because i swear i saw that book last week, im going to check the library first, if i dont find it then you can pay me.” So i say “alright!” Skip to around lunchtime; we were just finishing off a math lesson until three kids come in saying theyre doing a cookie sale for $2 and ask if anyone was interested and so i raise my hand and say “yeah, me!” So i give them a five dollar bill, and i get $3 and the cookie i wanted. And out of nowhere my OTHER long-time (6 years) friend who i’ll call ‘baddie’ claimed she had $5 in her desk and started saying I STOLE IT! She told the teacher and basically all her friends in the class. She was talking another friend of mine who i’ll call ‘Doja Crap’ and she whispering about me. Sinc ei was in a really bad mood i had lost my appetite and i was too busy forcung myself to eat my lunch to hear what they were saying, but my cousin Fish tood me what they were talking about, and apparently Doja Crap was like ‘call her (me) out’ LIKE CALL ME OUT FOR WHAT??? And Fola was like ‘im gonna asked to have my desk changed’ and ‘i should call my mom’ LIKE GIRL JUST ADMIT YOU LOST YOUR FUCKING MONEY AND MOVE ON. WE’VE BEEN FRIENDS FOR SIX FUCKING YEARS AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING IN MY NOT TO CUSS HER OUT. LIKE I DIDNT KNOW IF I WANTED TO YELL OR CRY! IM SO FUCKIN SAD MAN BC WEVE BEEN LIKE 🤞FOR YEARS AND YEARS! I WAS LITERALLY BADDIES FIRST FRIEND WHEN SHE FIRST MOVED TO MY SCHOOL LIKE GIRL WHAT?? WHY ARE YOU ACCUSING ME OF SOMETHING YOU KNOW I WOULDNT DO?! But yeah, its kinda been crappy.

kyle grabbed a strand of his styled red hair, and stared back at stan, annoyed.

"what? is it my hair? does it look bad?"

"no. it's just that you literally never do your hair. it's always either way too frizzy or under your stupid hat!" stan exclaimed, shaking kyle's shoulders.

kyle grabbed one of stan's arms in return, putting on the way-too-happy smile he always does before he punches someone, that stan and everyone else (sadly) knew all too well. "number one, it's not stupid, and number two, my hair is like this every passover and hannekuh. you just never pay attention to anything besides getting wendy a present every december and you never visit during passover."

"well-"

"well nothing. pay more attention to me, not wendy!" kyle almost, just almost, cried. maybe he was being stupid. it was a childish argument, he knew it. stan knew it too. everything stan said had been a half-joke. everything that he, kyle, had said before was a half-joke. now he's taking everything personal and he feels like an idiot for doing so.

he'd always been rivals with wendy, ever since preschool. wendy learned how to write her first name? kyle learned how to write his full name. wendy could read a full dr suess book in kindergraden? kyle could read how to kill a mockingbird in third grade. wendy spoke french? kyle asked his parents for hebrew lessons (with the excuse that he just wanted to read the torah in it's original form). soon enough, it had become a fight for stan. wendy started dating him the march of third grade, and kyle started seeing less of stan. stan only played with them every other recess, and instead of kyle 'tutoring' him (they only studied for thirty minutes before playing on kyle's xbox for five hours), he went over to wendy's house for "'actual' tutoring" (stan's words, not his), and that was when kyle realized he was maybe too codependent.

during the summer before sixth grade, kyle realized he like-liked stan. he remembers crying and sobbing for days, barely eating or leaving his room with only one thought left in his head.

"im a fag."

cartman had been right the entire time and it shattered his ego. he felt like he'd lost the game. he felt stupid.

"kyle!"

he shook his head and looked up at stan, whom of which had a worried expression on his face. "are you ok? your eyes are red and-"

"i'm fine." kyle said shakily, wiping his eyes and pulling the cuffs of his tux down. his mom had gotten it three months prior, and it fit him nicely then, but within the last three months, he'd grown 4 inches.

still shorter than stan.

"if you say so.. um, lets go downstairs before your mom goes crazy from not seeing you in your outfit yet." stan mumbled, playing with the hem of his shirt.

kyle grinned at him, to lighten up the mood. "a little gta won't hurt." and stan looked up, grinning back.

"bet."

inviting eric cartman to his bar mitzvah was probably the stupidest kyle had ever had.

yet he still did it.

"your jew party isn't all that bad.. but the food is shit."

kyle rolled his eyes. "oh, shut up, fatass. not everything is about food. this celebration is about me finally becoming an adult-"

"i dont care. whats with you jews and explaining shit that no one cares about?" cartman mumbled, walking away from where kyle was standing.

'dickhead' kyle muttered under his breath, leaning back onto the snack table. he couldn't let cartman, of all people, bother him right now. this is supposed to be the most important day of kyle's life, so he can't let little things bother him. even if they were anti-semitic fatasses or his childhood best friend/crush. he should go hang with david or kenny for a bit, forget about everything else for just a few minutes. yeah, that's what he'll do.

finding david was surprisingly not hard. for once he wasn't working or translating, just sitting with jimmy and clyde, laughing at some joke jimmy told. he was wearing a worn-out red suit that was a bit too big for him, sleeves a bit over his wrists. probably his dads.

"hey david."

david whipped his head around doing that stupid smile he always does when he sees kyle or his favorite cousin. "yo, kyle! i've been wondering where you've been for the past like, thirty minutes." he said shaking his head, then looking up back at kyle and grabbing his hands, making kyle blush furiously. "i almost forgot- mazel tov, kyle!"

of course david pronounced it the english way, but kyle learned to not care about pronounciation of jewish words by non-jews, it's not like everyone spoke decent hebrew like him. plus david already speaks spanish and mazateco along with english, so more foriegn pronounciation would probably make his head pop.

"gracias, dude, it means a whole lot."

david laughed. "it's nothing, man."

"oh, of course it’s something." kyle said with a laugh, offering david a loaf of challah he brought with him from the snack table before he could get a word out. "challah? my mom made like, five hundred loaves, even though i told her that there's only gonna be a hundred or less people here."

david bit into the loaf. "your mom is an amazing cook. she should open a kosher restaurant or something."

"we're the only jews in south park, if we opened a restaurant only you and stan would go there."

"true."

crying in the bathroom during one of the most important days of his life was not something kyle thought he'd be doing.

but it seems that seeing wendy pull stan down for a kiss is a bit too much for him.

it almost felt like wendy did it on purpose, like she knew kyle was watching, like she knew this was a competition and not something kyle made up in his head.

sobbing over a toilet in the synagogue while everyone else seems to be out having fun at your bar mitzvah sounds sickening, yet there kyle is, sobbing over the god damn synagogue toilet at his bar mitzvah while half of his grade is out there, celebrating him, even though he's a fucking loser who's crying in the bathroom over his best friend/crush kissing his fucking girlfriend who he's been dating since the fucking third grade; it's not like he and stan have ever done anything even slightly romantic or sexual before, so why is he acting like a twelve year old girl who's ex found another girl a week after they ended things?

"hello?"

kyle gulps. there it is, the voice he's been trying to run away from all night. stan is here to check up on him because everyone just knows something is terribly wrong. stanley marsh. his best friend. his super-best-friend. why is he surprised? stan always checks up on him. it's not unusual.

"kyle, i know you're in here."

obviously. kyle doesn't have the balls to actually leave his bar mitzvah with all his friends and family out there, excited for him. happy that he's entered "manhood".

"go away, stan." kyle says, his words quivering, voice cracking. "i'm just- sick of toy by netta! they play it at every bar mitzvah.. it's just- so annoying, y'know?"

stan laughs. he laughs in a way that kyle would've actually believed he said something funny if it weren't the words that followed it; "you're so bad at lying. it's like when you ran to ike's room when we were watching human centipede and you said it was because the soundtrack sucked even though it was the part where the japanese guy shit into lindsey's mouth-"

"okay okay, i get it."

"so um-" stan paused, and through the small gap in the stall door, kyle saw him tap his foot against the floor and put his hands behind his back. "can you open the door? i think we should- we should talk. yeah."

kyle got up from the tiled floor, wiping his dirty hands on his tux pants, and unlocking the stall door slowly, like he was scared. was he scared? maybe. what did stan even want to talk about?

when he opened the door, he saw stan, hands in his pockets staring at the floor. though kyle was taller than stan by an inch or two when they were kids, by the summer before seventh grade stan towered over him by 3 inches. damn sheila broflovski.

"hi." is the phrase they both greeted each other with simultaneously. kyle's cheeks were red, he could feel it. stan too, was beginning to turn a warmer color, though it could be excused by the fact that kyle had turned up the heat in the bathroom because it'd been too cold.

kyle played with his hair, blushing. "so what do you wanna.. talk about?"

"listen, i'll cut straight to the chase-" that phrase already scared kyle, who knows how he'll feel after he hears what stan has to say. "it's just you've been acting really weird lately. i noticed it, david noticed it- god, even craig noticed it. everyone's worried kyle, and hearing you literally cry in the bathroom doesn't make your case any better. i just really- i really miss when you seemed genuinely happy, now everything you do feels like it's out of spite and you just seem not there? you’re just so different now.”

kyle was taken aback. he’s different now? he hasn’t changed since they were kids, he’s still the same person he was when he was eight, the same redhead who always gets in trouble, who’s the top of his grade, who’s overly conscious of his looks. nothing has changed, stan is just a stupid straight asshole who blames all his problems on everyone besides himself.

the next words out of stan’s mouth seemed like a dream, like a nightmare you can’t escape, like a horrifying realistic simulation of tusk.

“kyle, are you gay?”

and at that moment kyle wishes he were dead.

stan’s shoulder has always been a safe place to cry.

stan is the only person (who isn’t his mother or ike) who has ever seen kyle cry, considering kyle doesn’t cry often.

stan’s shoulder is warm, his hand on his back is one of the most comforting things kyle has ever felt, but considering he’s only 13 and from a wealthy and loving family, there’s not a lot of things that he’s needed comfort for.

though telling his best friend that he was gay was probably the hardest thing he’d ever done.

the thought of saying “yes” to your best friend’s question which was “are you gay?” is something kyle would never dream of doing. yet, after a quivering sob and the horrifying revelation that he literally sucks at lying, kyle had indeed said yes.

one hiccuping sob, then the next. it almost felt as if he was dying. he couldn’t stop crying, no matter how hard he tried. no words he wanted to say came out. just more sobs.

kyle just wanted to die.

“dude- it’s-“ stan’s voice was quivering, but why? was it because he was gay? was stan homophobic?

“i know what you’re probably thinking. “oh, stan hates me now, he’s homophobic and shit” but kyle trust me- it’s nothing like that because, well, i like dudes too.”

well fuck him.

kyle sat up, wiping his eyes and grabbing onto stan’s shoulders, shakily. “what?! b-but you’re dating wendy-”

“bisexuality exists, kyle.” stan said, rolling his eyes.

“maybe this night won’t be the worst night of my middle school career” kyle thinks to himself as he hugs stan tighter.

What jacket of Catherine? If I remember correctly the red one in message for England Rugby was a re-wear (Denmark 2022 first time) so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not sure if it was the red or the blue one it was not clarified it was more the cost of the item even with it being a rewear they are saying it is tone deaf to be going around wearing a £800 jacket when people are struggling to eat and heat their homes to be honest I don't pay ,much attention to how much Catherine's clothes cost so I'm clueless to be fair some of the comments were anti royal family but not all of them and her clothes dont bother me but then Im biased as I love the Wales family as I did follow the Royals and sort of followed Diana and William and was interested in William and Catherines relationship but not 100% following

but it was Catherine and Williams wedding and having George that brought me in as a full time "fan"/royal watcher

I feel bad for the Royals just now it is a very thin line to walk tbh my view is its quality clothes and we know she 1000% rewears a lot of her clothes so it doesnt bother me but I can understand why it bothers others

I just think the mood has changed slightly with the Queens death towards the Royal family and with how things are in the UK right now I can see people turning on them very quickly if they are not careful with how they carry things out publicly

I am actually really surprised with peoples reaction on here to the slimmed down coronation by the time this coronation comes around it is going to be a possible 6-8 months if the June date is right nd people are really struggling financially I mean I am in a decent paid job and even I am having to watch every penny now and its only getting worse put it this way before I found my recent job I was on benefits after redundancy and I could not live on the benefits I got, I was very lucky to have my redundancy and to get another job 4 months after my redundancy and that was 3 years ago and with the cost of things now and benefits actually getting cut it is going to be even worse now

I think Charles is actually being really sensible in regards to this I know as royal watchers we love pomp and ceremony but I think he is totally making the right call in this circumstance there is going to be grumblings and uproar about the coronation anyway (moneywise- taxpayers money etc) but it would be a million times worse if he went ahead with it as a normal coronation with everyone in tiaras and gold etc it would be totally tone deaf as I am very certain we will be in a recession when he is being crowned

one time me and my mom were running SUPER late for school in the morning and we were both kind of freaking out. to make things worse, i had managed to (once again) misplace every pair of shoes i owned. i had spent about five minutes looking for them when my mom went

"what the hell is taking so long? let's go!"

i was going to explain to her that i couldnt find my shoes, but she seemed irritated and i didn't want to make her mood even worse lest it be turned against me so i said nothing and got into the car.

the whole 20 minute ride to my school i was thinking of how i was gonna get through the day with no shoes (("i don't really need them right? the hallway is carpeted. i'll have to sit out recess though..."))

we eventually pulled into the dropoff area where the principal was waiting to let us in bc my mom had called her. i open the back door of the car and swing my legs out and the first thing out of her mouth when she saw me was

"good morning, br- where are your shoes at."

my mom spins around in her seat so hard i think it gave her whiplash and upon seeing my bare-ass feet immediately (and reasonably) demands to know why i didnt tell her that i didnt have shoes on.

my ingenious response?: "you didnt ask"

you could almost hear the audible pop as my mother burst a blood vessel she was so angry. meanwhile, my principal is pissing herself laughing so hard but is clearly trying to keep it a little toned down for the sake of my mom's rapidly fleeing sanity. through her tears she tells my mom not to worry about it and to just run back home and get some shoes.

the ride back home is silent. the ride back to school is silent. however, i didn't need to be scolded bc the simple "say one more goddamn word and im throwing you out of the moving car" vibes my mom emitted the whole time was enough for me.

hello!! this tag is mostly prevalent on booktube and not in the deep recesses of the internet that is tumblr, but i feel most comfortable talking about books on this app for some reason, so i just thought that this would be very fun.

i’ve been reading quite a few series this year so it made this question a little hard to answer when i first saw it, so much so that i literally compiled a list of all the sequels i read and tried to rank them in order of best to…least best. (it fell apart very quickly). this one is for sure in the top three!!

the thing about it, too, is that since i first read the monstrous series by lily mayne, and then especially after catching up to the sons of the fallen by jaclyn osborn, i’ve just found myself so immersed in worlds of fantasy and mythical creatures alike; it’s been very difficult to take myself out of that headspace and go back to real world settings, and that’s something that riding into 2022, i didn’t expect. i’ve always loved fantasy, and i have considered it like an escape for a long time, but now that wish for escapism has just increased tenfold.

5. new release you haven’t read yet, but want to

- a lady for a duke by alexis hall

this book came out in may but by the gods, it is a 2022 release and i will read it soon.

6. most anticipated release for the second half of the year

- raiden (sons of the fallen, #6) by jaclyn osborn

as i’m writing this, there officially is just three more days until i see the nephilim brothers again, im so hyped.

7. biggest disappointment

if i know a book is not doing it for me, i don’t really have any hard feelings because most of the time, i knew what i was getting into so i wouldn’t be surprised if i wasn’t vibing with the story. however, there’s this recent read i tried to pick up, feeling oddly excited about it just because i was in that kind of mood to take a risk and i….had so much trouble with the writing, it pained me so much.

a: the dead romantics by ashley poston

to this day, i don’t know what i expected from it because on the surface, i already knew i might not love the book and yet i read the first chapter and it was like getting my heart broken. and for what?? i have no idea, but for some reason, there was something about this book that made me want to like it and yet i couldn’t even finish it. it apparently made people cry reading and i’m one of them; but it was all out of bitter disappointment so alas….

8. biggest surprise

- soul eater (monstrous, #1) by lily mayne

i wasn’t in a reading slump, per se, but from february to april, i had been consistently reading up to seven books. not out of choice, but out of pure coincidence as these seemed to be the highest count of books i could read in a single month during this time. i don’t know why that was, but it just is.

this book, though, just as i had already reached the seven book count in may, made me completely grow obsessed with this series. the fact that it had five published books already and was still ongoing completely disrupted what became this expected reading goal and i love that.

also it’s about monster fucking. there’s really good plot and a sweet as hell romance for each book (moth & charlie, my loves) but again….monster fucking. a series where human survivors in a dystopian setting fall in love and have sex with monsters who entered their world through a tear in time & space was what pulled me out of my semi-reading slump….that was not on my bingo card for this year.

9. favorite new author

- lily mayne

i have to give her a lot of kudos for everything she’s done (see: above) plus!! her writing!! it really is pretty brilliant, she deserves the semi-popularity i’ve noticed from her books’ ratings on goodreads.

10. fictional crush

- junichi takayama from the lore & lust series by karla nikole

i am obsessed with him. if there’s one thing to convince you to read his & jae’s book (“the awakening”), it’s him. it’s this dominican-japanese angel who has a killer sense of style and an attitude to match. the fact that his book doesn’t nearly get enough hype….very disappointed.

10. newest favorite character

- mina rahman from a show for two by tashie bhuiyan

at first, i didn’t think i felt much about her character and then i saw her get guilt-tripped over things that weren’t even her fault and i realized at the point that i would destroy the world for her happiness, i mean—

- flip the script by lyla lee

this author’s social media presence is completely out of this world, like she’s engaged as hell when it comes to connecting to her readers and she succeeds at it. her promotion of this book, specifically, made me feel very excited for what this story has in store and then a booktuber’s (@/perpetualpages) review of the book (x) has me even more hyped. i have a copy of my own that i can read at any time so i do hope to pick this up very soon.
