It starts in my chest

The sun making itself known

Blazing and burning,

Until it consumes me whole

The warmth spreads

Up my throat to my mouth

As it condemns me to muted silence

Watching you in all your glory

If I do nothing I will burn up into ash

But if I say something, 

What if the light inside me dies?

What if you snuff it out with a laugh and a denial?

What if I lose you completely?

Surely being ash in the breeze

Is better than going cold

Better than losing hope

Better than losing you.

So here I sit, 

And I’ll be here forever more

Until the breeze starts up

And my ashes are swept away.

I will sit and watch you

The sun crushing me from within

And I will wait.
