You know what its past midnight Im gonna make a post critisising acotar despite never having the read the series, the only book of SJMs ive actually read was crescent city but I spend a lot of time in anti acotar circles bc its fun being a little hater sometimes and I think I know enough by now to atleast critise some of the themes. I definitely know more about this series than I should, like I know about that immortal horse whose horse wife tragically died in horse childbirth and then Im pretty sure he died of horse sadness. And yet, despite cari can read being pretty good at explaining magic shit, I still dont know what the hell syphons are or why illyrians have them or why they matter so you really never stop learning huh

Anyway, I wanted to talk about the misogyny within the universe of acotar because its really bad, both in the sense that its just annoying and insufferable to read about even second-hand and in the sense that its badly written. The thing that inspired this was this short piece of flashfiction by @feynessupremacy about an unnamed girl from the hewn city being married off and having a horrible time living in this endless cycle of misogynistic abuse that her mom is still in and that her dauggters will end up in, all powerless to do anything against this kind of systemic sexism. I thought it was good and made its intended point pretty well but it also made me once again realize how borderline comical this series portrayal of misogyny is

Like, okay, once again, I have not read these books myself but it very much seems like the sexism in this world just materialized in the second book, from the summaries Ive watched it straightup seems like it was just not there in the first book. I mean hell, the entire plot hinges on the fact that Tamlin was sending all these fae disguised as fucked up creatures out so that they would hopefully be killed by a woman so she could break the curse, which implies that women being hunters was pretty normal. (Also, dont come at me with any kind of "oh, it doesnt specify the gender of the person who needs to break the curse a guy couldve done it as well", sjm is too insufferably heteronormative to consider that)

So basically what Im saying is, from my perspective it very much seems like sjm put not only systemic misogyny but like, incredibly violent systemic misogyny to the point where women being brutalized is basically completely normal, in her fantasy series for the sake of making a man look good because hes a wittle sad :( about it sometimes which is honestly pretty funny to me

But it gets even funnier because it doesnt even seem like sexism is really a widespread thing ? Like, i have never seen anyone else directly address this but its all I can think about: in the Nightcourt, the misogyny and institutionalized violence against women is literally the worst it possibly can be with genital mutilation and everything and then in the rest of Prythian its just like, not there. There are plenty of women with political power, the queen of adriada comes to mind first, Im pretty sure I read something about a woman from the wintercourt who was in a similar position of power, its unclear to me what all these fuckin priestesses do because theres no focus on the religion at all much less the institution(s) behind that religion, but they have to have some kind of power if theyre anything like priests in our world (although tbh they seem more like nuns to me functionally just with a diffrent name), especially Ianthe who was like a high priestess and directly in charge of Feyre, who shouldve been the most powerful woman in the springcourt by virtue of being with the high lord, Amren and Mor seem to be well respected outside of the NightCourt, their only deity is the MOTHER. Sure, there arent any "official" High Ladies but if being a High Lord entails being chosen by the magic of the land or The Cauldron or The Mother or whatever other kind of magic bullshit and women just dont get to have it for some reason, is that really indicative of the broader culture being sexist, or is that just God, Who Canonically Exists being sexist? Idk about you, but Im leaning towards the latter option

Thats not even mentioning the mortal lands which seem to be ruled by queens exclusively at the time of the story taking place, or Hybern which had Amarantha and I think her sister as well be these high-ranking generals and it wasnt presented as anything unusual. Like, are you telling me that the kingdom whose only value is "we love slavery, we would like to have slavery back" is more progressive than the court of fuckin Feminist King Rhysand?? I Am Going To Turn Into The Joker

Anyway, I think thats all I have to say, please correct me if I got any of this information wrong I cannot stress enough that I have not read these books and dont plan on reading them anytime soon, atleast not in english because reading the term mate a 1000 times sounds like too much for me to bear, atleast in german theyll probably use a term like "Gefährte/in" which doesnt make me think of actual animals

-and he... sits down. sets up a chessboard on the table in front of you, and unties your hands. you play, mostly out of fear, and while you dont win, you get pretty close

-he looks shocked and excited, with a dash of smugness

-he explains to you that hes not going to kill you, just keep you ("i cant let that mind of yours make direct contact with the idiocy of gotham! your IQ will lower just by being around them!") and that he'll keep that mind of yours sharp

-how does he do this? puzzles. lots and lots of puzzles. hes a bit of a sadist, so the puzzles are mandatory if you want things like food. regardless of how you do, he'll keep you alive, but if you want anything more than the necessities, you better get good with puzzles

-he spends lots of time with you. he says its because youre the only interesting person in gotham, but its mostly because hes an incredibly lonely man. its hard being at the top, so he'll cling to anyone who can even get close to what he sees as his level

-he LOVES learning more about you. not that he didnt research you for months, but he could only gather so much information before kidnapping you. every conversation is like an interrogation

-in terms of affection, hes... interesting. if you earn your dinner, hes programming robots to serve as waiters and dusting off his green suit. i wouldnt call him a romantic, per se, but he certainly thinks of himself as such

-dont expect much in terms of physical affection, he takes a while to get to that point. hes the riddler, after all! hes above the need to cuddle! unless... if you need comfort, he supposes he can indulge you

-if you ever try to escape, he'll be furious. how dare you try and leave! how dare you assume hes dumb enough to not have planned for this! until you apologize, youre getting the bare necessities and no attention

-when you inevitably start to reciprocate, hes smug about it, but secretly ecstatic. he knows hes not the most charming guy around, but he managed to win over the second smartest guy in gotham. and isnt that all he really needs for companionship?

modern au (but all the upside down shit still happened but is over now) party plays minecraft + byler isn’t together yet but theyre on the verge of getting together and mike and el are long broken up + everyone’s fending for themselves except mike keeps giving all of his resources to will and once everyone realizes, they start giving him shit for it/teasing mike about how he treats will so gently.  and while they’re arguing in vc and tabbed out of minecraft, will is running around and killing all of them for their loot which he then puts in his and mike’s chest.  mike is literally THE will defender, he’s a literal paladin guarding will from all of the mobs: will, gently harvesting crops mike, obliterating any monster that even Looks at will  eventually el and max team up on mike and chase him, all while mike shrieks in the vc about “it’s not fair for these two to team up on me!!!! theyre conspiring against me!!! ”  dustin builds the most insane redstone contraptions ever, and will patiently listens to dustin explain how they work, even if he doesn’t fully understand it. dustin also tames as many wild animals as he physically can lucas builds literally the cutest house for him and max ever. max accidentally blows part of it up while trying to kill mike with tnt. max and lucas repair the house together. eventually el also joins in with customizing the house and adding little details!!  jonathan starts playing for the first time one day + they ALL gang up on him and for the next hour, he’s dead within 2 seconds of spawning in. will tells everyone to stop eventually because “im pretty sure i can hear one of his blood vessels bursting from the other room”  nancy joins eventually too, and SHES the most brutal of them all. she’ll take down anyone for their loot. mike is begging for mercy but she kills him and takes his stuff anyway. she doesn’t have the heart to kill will or el, though. she does, however, ask them nicely to give her some items because she’s just starting out. will and el oblige because nancy is lowkey terrifying.  will dies in minecraft in front of mike because mike couldn’t kill a creeper in time and mike starts actually crying in the vc and everyone sort of feels bad because while yes it’s just minecraft, and sure, mike is maybe overreacting, trauma is weird and mike still isn’t over will having almost died in the final battle against the mindflayer/henry. will goes to the next room irl, where mike is, and just sits with him for awhile.  suzie starts playing eventually, and her and dustin build extremely complex castles and neverending story sculptures. someone (max) accidentally (while trying to kill mike AGAIN) blows up part of the structure, and suzie traps her in a strange eternal redstone rollercoaster hellscape for awhile until max apologizes.  the core party + max and el fight the ender dragon together. will and mike are the ones who land the killing blow. this makes mike feel slightly better about will’s death earlier.  like lucas and el and max, mike and will have an adorable house for themselves except the rooms mike decorated are kind of wonky, but will loves those rooms the most.  dustin is a madman who builds a sculpture/replica of the mindflayer based on will’s drawings. mike yells at dustin over vc for doing this. will, although he freaked out for a milisecond at first, is laughing his ass off over it because it’s honestly a pretty fantastic recreation suzie, now in cahoots with max after resolving their initial differences, is also sick of hearing mike and will swoon over eachother in vc, and therefore uses her hacking skills to change will’s username to “mikelover”. will, although embarrassed, does not deny the allegations. mike is flustered.  dustin’s tamed animals start living in lucas, el and max’s house since he doesnt really have a proper house, just a handful of extravagant castles with too many rooms to keep track of and a lot of sculptures unfit for pet habitation. el names all of the creatures that dustin hasn’t named yet.  mike has a coolass diamond sword. he takes the time to go and find diamonds for will because he doesn’t want will to feel left out because he doesn’t have a cool diamond sword. will insists that it’s fine and that he doesn’t need a sword, but mike makes him one anyway. mike also helps will build a coolass wizard tower for himself.  when the party first goes to the nether, they’re uncomfortably reminded of the upside-down/vecna’s mindscape. also will thinks the ghasts are adorable. max is throwing hands with the zombie pig men.  max bullies the villagers because their prices are “way too high”. el tries to befriend the villagers. max bullies the villagers because theyre being “rude” to el.

The strange hikizuri siblings - uhh okay. Not scary nothing even happened. Okay a guy was a jealous simp, little kids are just like that, some guy threw up bread dough ig, then a ghost stared at everyone for a while and dipped the end

The story of the mysterious tunnel - Jesus Christ that was pretty spooky what the hell. Lost my marbles when he assumed the drop was water, and the kid in the ceiling fucked me up with her voice (dub) and screams

Ice cream bus - im never eating ice cream again. Jokingly compared the driver to William afton fnaf in the beginning but he was somehow worse. The dad pushing the kid away jumpscared me, then horrified me, and I needed a break from the show

Hanging balloon - so absurd it was kinda funny. The nonlinear storytelling added a bit if spook as I slowly realized who was at the window but idk the concept was just funny to me. Also I was so happy someone finally showed up to a horror plot strapped until I saw the result. Sorry random Chad with a crossbow, wish you coulda helped…

Four x four walls - thought something horrific would happen outside and he wouldn’t hear it but it didn’t, thought soichi was famous for being scary but he wasnt, I think this was like a comic relief in episode form. No spook, kinda funny

Like, if hes so cruel on every other day then he shouldve acted really nicely, greeted Keir by giving him the biggest hug and being like "uncleeeee!! :D long time no see :)" and Feyre should have been dressed up as like, the embodiment of spring in pastel green soft shades of pink and but Rhysand still treats with the utmost kindness and respect, now that would throw the Hewn City for a loop

Okay so the reason Rhys broke keirs arm is because the word 'whore' triggered him which is understandable but like, Feyre thought of herself as the Highlords Whore in a very deliberate parallel to Rhysand being known as Amarantha's Whore and Im pretty sure she even straightup thought something about being in the position he had for so many years but she was like, horny about it and the narrative just isnt acknowledging it. Like, theyre not talking about it even though their mindlink was presumably open the whole time bc I remember them flirting through the link, and Feyre isnt even like "oh man, I feel bad for thinking that when its so upsetting to him" its so weird

Rhysand basically said "I will never try to protect you by locking you away, instead I will protect you by killing anyone who upsets you, even when they dont actually upset you and they just upset me" like he and Tamlin are not fundamentally any different from each other, its just that Rhysand is a coldblooded murderer. but its fine cuz he wears black leather i guess

I just realized. Rhysand had a boner when Feyre was sitting in his lap. did that go away when he broke Keirs arm or did he walk out of that meeting with his dick fully hard

Rhysand just said something about how Tamlin just locked Feyre up and let her waste away and almost die and Feyre was gonna say "He was trying his best" but Rhys interrupted her like "Dont compare me to him, stop comparing us" when she didnt say anything about that ??? my guy is projecting so hard rn he thinks theyre having a conversation that theyre not even having

And like i would argue that Feyre doesnt even compare Rhysand and Tamlin that much, the narrative definitely does it a LOT, but Ive been reading Feyres thoughts throughout this whole ordeal and I feel like she barely even thought about Tamlin since she sent him that letter

This scene is supposed this big turning point for their relationship and its clearly meant to be really emotional but the only emotion i can feel rn is annoyance with Rhysand because its like, he did have genuinely traumatic things that happened to him but not only is he barely affected by any of them, those are not even the things that the narrative brings up whenever its trying to get me to sympathise with him instead its always just "whaaaaaaa everyone thinks Im nasty and evil just because i keep doing nasty and evil things T-T"

Feyre is being very cruel but in a kinda funny way because its directed at Rhysand rn, i would insert the quote but I am in no state to translate anything at the moment but shes basically like "of course you have to hide your true self from your friends, they wouldnt wanna hang out with otherwise, you burden"

Idk why but the prose being like "my arrow struck him too deep" is so funny to me, it has the same energy as the vampire fics i read where the weird gay one gets his heart broken and he goes "it wouldve hurt less if he staked me in the heart"

umm. bhaal thoughts nd stuff under the cut. ive seen a lot of stuff mischaracterising/interpreting/whatever and it bothers me. i like him.

bg1+2+3 spoilers btw.

i dont wanna seem uhhh. confrontational or anything so this is just me airing thoughts out cz its true u dont rly Hear from him much directly in bg3 so i guess i get why ppl wouldnt know or think certain stuff. and im not the worlds expert on the topic as much as id like to be. but writing gods in stuff is never easy i think, especially as a fan, since they function on totally different ideas and have worldviews we could never possibly understand, etc etc

i think what bothers me the most is the misconception that bhaal would give a shit what the urge does. he definitely doesnt. the canon bg1+2 is a human male goodguy (derogatory) and even he was still supposedly favoured by bhaal (in that achieving slayer form was from a feeling of 'divine hatred' and not an actual gift since bhaal at the time was dead and he was favoured not for this but in that he was the strongest of all his spawn (this is bg2 stuff btw i highly recommend u play both those games if u liked bg3 durge)) i actually miss how bg2 introduced that form its way better than in 3 but thats a big tangent ToT and i get why since the durge was quite literally made with it in mind anyway he didnt care about the prev spawn because their only purpose was to die anyway. but he doesnt care abt what durge does either. he would not care if he was fucking gortash. the one constant w him is that all he cares about is the end goals, the process doesnt matter at all. i cant be bothered putting screenshots in rn but both the durge's old diary and sarevok say "bhaal cares only for death. death in numbers, death in droves." and the ingame proof is in that even if u refuse to kill isobel u can still get the slayer form by agreeing to accept his gift in the temple. whether u killed isobel or not just determines if u get slayer form early. the other proof is orin, who doesnt follow him as he would ideally want either (too focused on making 'art' with death instead of actually killing) but still gets to be his chosen if u play as tav instead of durge (he also doesnt like the way shes loyal to sarevok more than him) hes pretty pragmatic

also the other thing... abt the butlers. sceleritas isnt there to ensure u are loyal, thats his own prerogative and pride as a butler. tho i think the specifics of him in general are left intentionally vague. the rest of bhaals butlers are always imps, and his own was also an imp (theyre made in his imps image after all), bt sceleritas is made in bhaals image. since he has a glued on nose and the colouring on his face looks like a skull. and the earrings are mirroring the slayers facial horns. thats a bit of a tangent tho umm anyway, my point is that durge got a very special butler for reasons we can only guess at. (tho i enjoy thinking that he really was meant more as a nanny/standin parent figure)

anyway that got sort of long. i love dad a lot. everyones durge can be different frm canon obviously... bt bhaal is an established char, nd a super interesting one (i have a lot of thoughts abt the similarities w mystra+shar especially cz of bg3 and the way sheart+gale narrative's play out bt again thats uhhhhh a HUGE tangent and im not even sure how to word my thoughts)

anyway tldr bhaal is a very hands off parent and doesnt give a shit what u do as long as u get the job done (and i love him very much 🥺)

oh also if u math the years out, durge is 20yrs old at max. and that takes the assumption that bhaal made u ASAP after he was resurrected. trivia. if u wanna read the thing wheree he gets rezzed, its the 'murder at baldurs gate' story which also comes with a rly intensive worldbuilding manual for the city which could help w fanfic or whatever u want. i enjoyed reading it (helping w dnd stuff T_T).

another edit: i doubt anyone except me is rly interested bt i have soooo much to say on the topic of how bhaal treats the urge (positively+unconditionally), sceleritas in general, and the way the urges journey mirrors bhaals own fall from grace and coming back stronger, etc etc, i already wrote half of it on twitter anyway so if theres interest i can share it here too

Idk actually, maybe the some of the spider kids are humans and that’s how they meet Miguel or peter and Jess (bc I’d love to see them as dragons theyre so cool)

imagine a human Hobie just confidently walking around a dragon’s cave/network society and just casually arguing with a giant dragon Miguel. I’m feel like he’d get in the dumbest arguments with him just for the giggles. I can see him also baby sitting a hatchling mayday, keeping her fully entertained while Peter goes off to finish missions too dangerous to bring her along. Their little interactions in atsv were adorable especially the little salute he gave her.

or the fight between miles and Miguel ☹️ even tho I love him (Miguel) and understand why he did that and his motives, I’ll always feel so bad for miles. I feel like it would even be worse because instead of having a 6’9 roughly judged 310 pounds of muscle man chasing after you and pinning you down, there’s a ten ton dragon hellbent on having your dad die for the sake of the canon, claws, wings, VENOM/FIREBREATHING. It’s pretty much game over at that point. Ofc miles is a resourceful amazing wonderful intelligent human so I think he’d be able to reason with him. Besides, even then I kinda doubt Miguel would want to kill a kid, even if they’re a human. Nurturing instincts don’t go away after ur daughter dies 😋! Actually Miguel might even nom miles in an effort to keep him from messing up the canon :( can you imagine being so so terrified of this huge creature and getting nommed and you don’t know you’re safe and you’re panicking and ��

The hurt and comfort is strong here :o. And the guilt. So much guilt. Once they work out their issues (there are so so so many poor dudes) I’m sure they’ll be besties. But that’s for human miles au

dragon miles would definitely get the short end of the stick. Even if he’s a hatchling (kind of, he’s in that odd stage between adult and adolescent but on the younger side) he’s still a whole lot more durable than if he’s a human. Which means that Miguel won’t be nearly as cautious handling him physically. Ouch. Miguel genuinely wants to protect miles in the movie but does it in the worst way possible. That would probably transfer over to this universe too.

But still because I absolutely LIVE for found family, I want to imagine they work through their problems in a long and very very non linear path that has setbacks and leaps forward and minor changes and everything because I love all of these characters sm and without depth they don’t feel like people. Plus imagining sleepy spider kids/dragons stumbling into Miguel’s section of the cave system/lair and deciding to take a quick nap there because it feels safe and waking up with Miguel curled loosely around them, wing slightly shielding them from the chilly drafts and hsjskskdjskj they have my heart. (Miguel will deny it later.)

or peter b taking the human kids out flying to let them feel at least a little what it’s like to taste the sky while Miguel lurks in the background anxiously, crimson eyes tense just in case peter accidentally drops one of them. Not that he would, he may be goofy but he’s most definitely not stupid.

I can imagine Miguel trying his hardest to stop some of the kids from doing things that he thinks is wayyy too dangerous for them and just giving up and tucking them away in his brooding pouch. If they won’t listen to his very very valid concerns then he’ll just have to make sure they don’t go anywhere >:(. Plus it’s warm and safe and even though Miguel will never admit it, he feels calmer if they’re there, protected completely bc he’ll never let anything hurt them. At least not while they’re nestled in one of the literal safest places in the world. I can’t imagine anyone would have an easy time getting to them when there’s a very protective and vengeful dragon guarding his precious brood.

and I haven’t even really gotten into the other characters either :( especially exploring the relationship between Jess and Gwen or Hobie and miles/gwen and pav but I feel like I’m writing too much so I’ll end it here. So there was kinda a script for the comic but I suck at script writing so I made an entire drabble instead

Mk groaned and rumpled his hair with a heavily bandaged hand. "So Macaque has been dead for like forever, and Monkey King barely leaves Flower Fruit Mountain, right? Well something Pigsy said the other day reminded me I needed my flu shot, and I figured 'Hey! Why not get them up to date too!' But it turns out they need ALL of them and a pharmacist cant just do that. Plus theyre like actually actual monkeys?? Apparently??? So I had to track down an exotic vet, but theres only one in the area and they're all the way outside the city-"

Meanwhile, across the shop at the main counter, Wukong had decided he was starving, but quickly realized he had a problem. See, the cone was very much in the way, and while he could take it off... he didnt want to get yelled at. So now he was busy picking away at Tang's resolve. "Come on, just pour the bowl in! It'll be fiiiine!"

Macaque sat nearby, contorting himself at an angle that couldnt be comfortable, just to watch. "You know hes not going to stop until you at least try, right?" "Yeah! So do what he says and do what I say!" "Thats definitely not what I said..."

"- but it turns out Macaque is like really NOT ok with needles so he fucking bit me, but theyd already given him the rabies shot by that point so Im pretty sure it fine! He'll probably only *maybe* kill me in my sleep, but at least its not rabies!" Mk's nervous laughter was cut short by a loud sputtering and an anrgy screech. As Mk and Mei turned to look they were met by the sight of a wet, seething Macaque, Wukong with broth and noodles dripping out of his cone, and a very guilty looking Tang.

Mei slowly pulled out her phone and took a picture.

Mk groaned and let his head *thunk* down on the table. "Nevermind, he's gonna kill Monkey King first.

Bonus: "So now that all thats taken care of, hows your hand?"

Mk flexed the banaged appendage. "Eh. Im sure its not nearly as bad as it looks!"

Across the room, Macaque piped up from where Tang was using a hairdryer on him, "THIS IS WHY YOU RESPECT YOUR ELDERS!"

youre totally fine, dw! first disclaimer is ive not seen it, but also i dont plan to. i cant vouch for how racist the actual narrative within the movie, for me its more that its situated in a media landscape of films where i saw it advertised and i said to myself "oh i know exactly what that is :/ i thought we were done with this but i guess not"

theres a lot of stuff that i can ramble abt bc its very interesting and theres a million different ways this all plays out even if it all comes from the same source of anti-native thinking. but in particular w this movie its that i know it was gonna be trauma porn possibly mixed with imperialist nostalgia (aka mourning the loss of us/our culture even while actively killing and oppressing us)

there was a really good article i saw a while ago and shared some of the quotes from that talks about this movie specifically! i wont just repost the quotes i pulled before, but in particular for thinking of this movie and not movies in general:

I am not from the Osage community. The response from the tribe about the film, which looks at the events surrounding the deaths of more than 60 Osage people in Oklahoma in the 1960s, has been relatively favorable: many believe that this is a story that should be told, that it will raise awareness and do some good. I hope they are right. I hope something good comes out of this film. I hope the Natives who worked on it continue to have thriving careers and have the opportunity to make better stories for future generations. That doesn't change the fact that I walked into the cinema knowing that I was about to view several rich white men's interpretations of a violent chapter in Native history.

They think showing the absolute worst of what happened to us in grisly detail is somehow respecting us. The Osage in this film are described by Robert De Niro's character as "sickly people" whose time will run out. And sure enough, the first 30 minutes of film is a collage of dead Natives. As the film continues, hour after hour after hour, more Native men and women are killed off. [descriptions of various grisly deaths depicted in the movie.] Other than [one character being seen serenely walking into the afterlife], there is no moment of healing and catharsis for the Natives in the audience. Our wounds are reopened and left festering for the entertainment and "education" of non-Native viewers.

the full article is really good and i recommend it esp since its a relatively short read, and it really sums up how i felt seeing this movie being advertised and how im sure a lot of native people felt about it U_U

tldr generally is i cant say if the movie itself is like, terribly racist, but at the least it exists in a landscape where non-native media makers continue to find excuses to show native people being brutalized over and over again all while getting to say its because they "care so much" (if they cared theyd support n uplift native voices telling these stories) & native people are all aware of it and pretty much tired of it. so even the ones that may be doing good are, for many people (like my cynical ass lol), beyond the benefit of the doubt and at best are racist out of ignorance of the legacy theyre contributing to

and and and!! this is so important to me actually bc im genuinely sick in the head when it comes to knights. i love knights so much. and i think the most interesting thing abt them is the fact that being a perfect knight is impossible FOR MANY REASONS but among others its just the idea that a knight should be kind and good and humane juxtaposed with the reality that a knight has to kill whatever — or whoever — they’re told to kill. and for that reason all knights are a little (a Lot) unhinged to me and very much traumatized.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO KNIGHT!READER……. i think they get desensitized to it pretty quickly. their main focus is helping the prince / easing his burden / etc etc, so i think theyre willing to place their duty above their own morals, at least to a certain extent. (they still very much have a hero complex LOL) but but but… it still obviously affects them. and you’re absolutely right — the very first person that they kill will obviously have a huge impact on them.

because knight!reader had such an awful upbringing (before meeting satoru!!) i see them being very empathetic!! w a general desire to do Good. so the idea of them having to kill someone, maybe even someone who’s pleading for their life…. yeah. ough. but i do think theyd try to convince themselves that theyre fine, that satoru comes first, etc etc….. that they’re doing it for Him. so its fine. (but its not.)

and as for satoru’s reaction ohhhh anon u little genius…. i hadnt thought abt it before but!! i do think he’d be worried. my prince!gojo is a bit twisted in certain ways and i doubt he’d care that reader killed someone, or about their victim, but he would care abt the possibility of it affecting them. i think he’s mildly opposed to reader being a knight because of this!! because he knows that knighthood in itself is a daydream that’ll only cause them harm. but he respects their wishes and stays out of it… mostly….. definitely gets upset at whoever ordered them to kill for the first time, but after its happened again and again there isnt much he can do.

he’s very attentive, though!! keeps an eye out. or asks suguru to keep an eye out. just in case. i also firmly believe that he’d insist on cleaning knight!reader up himself <33 i think he enjoys gently wiping the blood off your skin. it’s domestic to him. (he is Not normal)

yippeeeee okay id better explain what exactly im trying to write here lmao so like. this whole au was originally just an experiment in mapping the spider-person story onto a morbius variant as a joke bc i liked the idea of him being like "i was straight up bitten by a radioactive animal and started doing vigilante crime fighting can you please let me into the multiverse" and miguel going "NO youre literally a villain How did you get this number" but then it kinda spiralled and now theres like themes n shit

so long story short morgan michaels gets bitten by a radioactive vampire bat on a uni trip and wakes up with some weird mutations but doesnt really take much notice, he just goes about his day as normally as he can until he Fucking exsanguinates someone to Death. and takes it Badly. so then while hes trying to cope with that and adjust to the whole "vampire(?) thing" like. finding a non-homicidal way to get blood. he encounters spider-man and goes Hey! You know what would make me feel less shit about that whole murder thing? Doing that!

so he pisses off to try become a superhero and accidentally gets stuck with the name morbius, fucks around w/ doc ock and almost finds out until spidey saves his ass and morbius goes Hey. Im bad at this. Youre good at this. Can i be your sidekick until i figure out what the fuck im doing? and peter goes Hhhhhmmmmm bc He knows morbius is a villain. hes wearing one of them watches hes all caught up on how his canon works. but maybe this one is different..maybe he can fix him.....as in hes literally floating there in front of him asking to be fixed. so he says Yeah okay ill make sure you dont get yourself killed probably

so theyre doing the whole superhero mentor thing for a while, morgan learns and grows amd theres some cool contrasting moments where he handles shit completely differently than spider-man would and changes the trajectory of some established arcs, until eventually hes off doing basic superhero stuff all on his own and goes Hey that guy doesnt have a pulse. Thats kinda weird. so he tracks the guy to this weird secret rave in a factory basement with all these other dead people and at one point they turn on the sprinkler and its full of human blood? which hes so normal about ofc (<- the lying liar) and then this COOL GUY with a COOL JACKET and a COOL SWORD shows up and starts annihilating everyone and morbius goes Whoa cool! and then this guy tries to kill Him and he goes HEY WAIT IM LITERALLY ALIVE and blade goes Thats fucking weird cause youre definitely a vampire so whats your deal. Come with me so i can figure out what your deal is. so then morbius meets blades cool hematologist friend and cool butch biker mom and finds out abt Actual vampires which, it turns out, he definitely isnt hes something else which just seems similar bc [INSERT COMIC-TYPICAL MUTATION BULLSHIT]

they both get tied up in plot stuff and even though it takes a loooong moment for blade to trust him theyre actually a pretty good team, morbius is used to spider-man treating him like a student and, implicitly, a child so its neat that blade treats him like an Equal (albeit an annoying inexperienced equal w/ bad jokes and a worse costume but still) and turns out they actually have a lot in common? and kinda bond really easily? and maybe this whole "edgy-hero-who-kills-things" deal is working wayyyy better for him than the spandexed paragon thing spider-man has going on and that guy is super out of his depth in these circumstances and needs to stop pushing in assuming he knows best just bc hes a """hero""" and actually hes maybe being a total uptight prick about the no murder thing and who died and made him king of new york anyway?? fuck off spider-man i have a cool new friend who Gets Me and will absolutely definitely never judge me for killing someone or succumbing to bloodlust which is definitely totally 100% true and Not a fundamental misinterpretation that will come back to bite me in the ass.

So ever since HoO appeared in game I have been thinking of how it could have otherwise gone down.

Not just for Mei, but for Bronya too.

Because HoO feels like it would have fit in with the end of the Elysian Realm instead of randomly in the middle of Project Stigma.

Which got me thinking.

Should the Herrscher transformations been spread out more? Im not talking chapter 15 HoTr Bronya, and there would have to be extensions to the story. I just have some off the top of my head ideas.

So, Bronya and True Herrscher of Reason / Herrscher of Truth. I would have put this probably in the Herrscher of Dominance Arc. Which would have been extended. Chapter 23 focused on Seele and Bronya at the start. We follow Seele and Bronya gets her powers stolen.

Now before this arc I would have put a bit more focus on Bronya. All her fights are barely victories, even with the core. She doesnt defeat Tlaloc, she just incapacitates it or stuns it and barely gets away. I get that Cyberangel is a hype moment, but this is just hypotheticals. I would have her lose something else too, probably against the Herrscher of Sentience, and I mean really lose. She gets mindtricked and stomped basically.

And I would keep giving her moments where she feels/complains that, even with the help of the Core of Reason, she doesnt feel like she can reach her full potentional.

So back to the HoDom arc. I would extend it to 6 chapters. Which is *a lot*. But the chapter 23 would focus on Seele and Seele, and Bronya losing her powers trying to fight the puppets. Chapters 24 and 25 would focus on Bronya regaining her powers, similar to how Mei did it chapter 17 in regards of accepting her Herrscher self of her own will, by becoming the True Herrscher of Reason. This would also give her the finalé of defeating all the 1,000 puppets.

Because in-game where we kill all the puppets halfway through chapter 24, its like defeating the final boss halfway through the second movie in a trilogy. It just doesnt work.

So we trick the players with another 3 chapter arc with Bronya in the spotlight. Except we leave enough uncleared as to whether or not we actually defeated HoDom for good. Something like, we only found evidence the puppets can work in small groups, yet they seemed to be overseen by something to work well on a larger scale. But its not made clear either way.

This chapter 26 would start with some downtime. Bronya and Welt chatting about Bronya's new Reason powers. Some Kiana in there because she still has to deal with HoV. She has those Sirin dreams and asks around. Theyre all still on the lookout for HoDom so they havent fully celebrated yet since they arent sure, so when the puppets return for round 2 its not out of nowhere. This chapter would also have us follow Mei and the WS crew as they research the puppet cores, and they slowly uncover that the puppets were connected to a central figure, and this is where the puppets return.

Now we have Kiana being taken to the Theater. Maybe go through the Second Eruption and post-K-423 rescue events in slightly more detail? But for the rest, Bronya and Mei reenter the Theater, but we also follow Seele and the twins because the puppets are figting two fronts, one in reality where they are attacking and one in the Theater where they are defending. Vice-versa for our protagonists. They have to break through in the Theater before the puppets can win on Earth. Just for some extra tension and scenes for chapter 27. Chapter 28 happens pretty much the same but Im unsure for Everlasting Flames. I want HoTr Bronya there - Flamescion still takes center stage - but Bronya's past victory did kinda get undermined by the puppets not staying dead, so I want her fighting side by side with Kiana so Bronya can also get a true victory. Im just not sure how that would go down, and again, Flamescion would still take center stage.

Kolosten would basically be unchanged in events. Its Otto's finalé.

Elysian Realm and Elysium Everlasting. Oh boy. I wont dwell on this.

Less focus on Elysia. More focus on Mei. More focus on all the Flame Chaser as a united group in terms of how much Mei gets to know them. Some explaination as to what Origin actually means.

This can still end with a fight against HoC, but it is Mei who fight it. The Flame Chasers helping her along through all the signets Mei has collected (since *all* of them would have been deleted at this point). They can appear as ghosts to help out, doesnt matter. During the final parts of what would be chapter 34 (HoDom 23-28, Kolosten 29-31, EE 32-34) all the Flame Chasers induvidually gives Mei their full signets. Not Elysia narrating it all, we hear all the Flame Chasers, but yes it still ends with Elysia giving Mei the signet of the Herrscher of Origin and Mei defeats HoC, either through her new powers or through deleting the Realm.

And now, the part 1 finale is cleared up for Project Stigma and Kiana becoming the Herrscher of the End. Hopefully without this sudden change in the Project since in this theoretical timeline it would have actually been set up beforehand.

Because showing 3 new Herrscher battlesuits into 1 chapter each along with reexplaining and reintroducing a brand new Project Stigma in the finale of the story does not work as well as the writers wish it did.

This ultimately got longer and more off the top of my head than I originally planned for it.

Ultimately I just needed to vent a bit. Dont take any as I said as 100% set in stone this is what I would have done... But the HoO powerup really would have fit so much better at the end of the Elysian Realm arc imo.
