Would you happen to have any cuddle head canons, so to say? Or how the other would comfort/react to the other when they're seemingly at their lowest point, like beyond burnt out or something? Thank you and I hope you're doing well :D!
Hello, it has been a minute since I've posted much. A lot has gone on, including a death in the family, so life is not going well at the moment. I'll slowly begin posting again, but not as much as I used to; mostly just to keep my mind busy.
Before I begin I want to apologize for my last post that has since been deleted, as I said some very insensitive things which resulted in some people being very upset. I most certainly didn't intend for any of it to come across that way and I should have not answered the question at all and should have seriously thought about what I typed before I posted. The only thing I wish did happen out of the issue was people to contact me directly in a civil manner about it rather than through harassment and spreading more hate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry if some of these seem a little off. Some of the interactions and feelings portrayed are similar to what I'm going through at the moment.
Kimchiburger:
Cuddling
Typically these two are pretty casual about cuddling, like just an arm around the other or over the shoulders if just hanging out. The more intimate kind tends to come either after getting frisky with each other or if they need some comfort when they are struggling emotionally. SK tends to be like a mother hen with cuddling when America starts getting self-conscious about himself or what people say during the meetings, with lots of whispering sweet nothings and reassurance. America usually has to ask first if SK needs to cuddle, because there are some cases where SK doesn't want to be touched, particularly when the Korean is unsure exactly how he is feeling and needs to figure that out first.
Lowest Point (CW: mentions of 9/11, vague mentions of the Korean War, depression, dark thoughts including self-loathing and questioning one's existence)
Probably some of the lowest points SK has seen America at usually correlates with his people or what happens, such as 9/11, or events tend to be the catalyst for some of his mental breakdowns, often going silent or his voice simply sounds so raw and defeated and completely lacking any energy or will to do anything. As such, SK tends to have to have a sit down with America and listen first, then comfort after, as sometimes the real reason for America's breakdown isn't as apparent or there is a lot more to it. For instance, America is very self-conscious about his reputation in the world and how he treats his own people and seriously struggles between trying to be a decent human being with his duties as a nation. As such, he views such tragic events as a failure on his behalf for not finding the balance between his duties and his wants as a human. He wants to be a good guy and genuinely help people (which can do the exact opposite since he is terrible at reading the room and putting himself in another's headspace), but his government makes him more of a bad guy and he knows there isn't a whole lot he can do about it, or he is reminded that sometimes he would go along with the government's plans and actions, and he regrets it a lot.
America was there when SK essentially was torn away from NK and, in a sense, "lost" him. He still feels guilt for partially causing it and knows that this still haunts SK to this day. This particular memory tends to be the beginning of a domino effect for SK or his mental state will link back to it no matter how removed the initial problem was, as there is so much history to unpack that it causes him to spiral into a deep depression. One of the most common issues that occurs is when he feels he is being crushed under the expectations of competing with his neighbors, becoming one of the "four Asian tiger" economies, or feels he is failing everyone around him. He's broken down to America in tears before about how NK was so much better at these kinds of things growing up and he wonders why the both of them were needed as representations when they were one nation, along with self-degrading about how the only thing he was somewhat good at over his brother was diplomacy and, due to that, he was doomed to fail and wondered why he even bothered trying in the first place. America, once he got the okay to cuddle or hold him, has to be very, very tactful about what he says, but tends to go with reminding him that he is good at his job and that he is trying his best, or to ignore politics and look at himself as a person. He would remind him that he is wanted, loved, and needed as a person. America would go so far as to express how much SK changed his life for the better and how he was always there like a lighthouse in his darkest times or lost, and that he will do the same for him.
RusNK:
Cuddling
Considering how cold it can get in both of their countries, these two tend to cuddle for warmth, both in the physical and mental sense. Even when in a warm house, cuddling is like an emotional comfort in of itself without the need for words. To just be in each other's presence and have their need for touch fulfilled is enough. Often they cuddle on the couch, sometimes just holding each other or one on the other's lap, and could be doing differently things, like scrolling on their phone or reading a book (sometimes they both are reading either different books or the same book, either with their own copies or sharing one). Cuddling is never something casual for them on the surface. It provides the peace of mind knowing that a loved one is right there, maybe even just a breath away, and won't go anywhere.
Lowest Point (CW: vague mentions of the Korean War)
These two share a lot in common with family and politics, particularly politics causing a rift between them and their families, as well as the subsequent isolation they feel or are subject to by the rest of the global community.
Russia was there when NK had to separate from SK, and was sort of there during the subsequent war a few years later. Though he barely knew him enough then, he felt the anguish, anger, and sadness the other was feeling, simply because he knew what that was like when he had to separate from Ukraine and Belarus a few times during his history. Years later, and, anytime NK starts having thoughts about that time or can't break out of a depression episode and sleep eludes him due to insomnia, he willingly will do anything to simply be there for him through it all. He's stayed awake with him on nights they were together when episodes like this would happen. NK doesn't like that he drags Russia into his mess, but Russia reminds him that he doesn't want NK to feel alone and he will not let the other be alone like he had to endure before. These types of situations are what causes their cuddling to never be superficial or casual, as it conveys to each other that they are not alone in their suffering and sadness.
NK has seen Russia upset, sad, depressed, jaded, but he has rarely seen Russia have a full mental breakdown. One that sticks to him personally was when Russia, shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union, was sent by his new boss to sever ties politically with him. Russia slammed the papers down in a fit of anguish and broke down crying in front of him, saying how humans, no matter what political ideology they believed, were so cruel that they were trying to take away yet another loved one, possibly one of the few who still cared since even his older sister was distancing herself from him. The Slavic nation even started going manic saying they could runaway together and, if they rejected being nations hard enough, that they could lose their immortality and someone else would take their place, just so they could stay together. NK, despite having emotional whiplash from it all, including a brief debate on whether to adhere to his duties as a nation or to be human for once, grabbed Russia by his scarf to hold him still and to look at him, telling him that they couldn't do that due to the unlikelihood of that happening, but that, for once, they need to put their feet down and will stay together in spite of politics. He would remind him that they both have lost too much for their government's sake and that they will not let them take each other away. He could care less if the world isolated them if it meant they were isolated together, because, echoing what Russia had always said to him in his darkest moments, like hell they would leave each other to suffer alone. NK didn't care if they were public about it or had to be secretive, as long as they remained each other's.
Commieburger:
Cuddling
In the beginning, their cuddling was super clumsy and awkward since both of the them were struggling with separating the nation from the person. Like, first time America tried to cuddle NK was on a couch watching a movie and he was so scared that NK would hate it that he laid his arm on the back of the couch behind the Korean. He tried so hard to make it look casual but it was like a robotic arm that needed a serious amount of lubrication in the joints. Thankfully, NK is better at reading people and the atmosphere, so he more or less understood America was trying to not push or break boundaries if the other wasn't ready. Not to say he wasn't awkward himself when he practically yanked the other's arm onto his shoulders and leaned into America's side.
Once they were used to it they are in some of the weirdest positions for cuddling, or the definition is applied very loosely. America knows NK is touch-starved to an extent and likes the comfort of being close, but they aren't always wanting to be all mushy with each other all the time. So some of their solutions tend to be a mix of casual and cute, like NK laying his legs across America's lap and they hold hands while occupied with something else, like watching TV or reading something. Or another one would be after they had an extremely petty, childish argument but are craving the other's touch and not quite ready to admit they were being petty or were wrong, so they just lean into each other's shoulders or sides. Not to say they don't have some mushy times like NK on America's lap or America resting his head on NK's lap; those just tend to be when they are more intimate rather than casual.
Lowest Point
When America is at his lowest, he's very distant and quiet due to being lost in his own thoughts, and usually words cut through him more than actions do. Usually this is due to things people say to his face at meetings, sometimes talking about his diet or weight, but some of them are even more hurtful or make the others look more superficial, like some of the more direct nations bluntly stating how he's causing more havoc and chaos than help or that he's super blind and naïve to his government's true goals and/or reasons. These kinds of words make him question most of his short existence, including if he was being selfish or making things worse by having a relationship with NK. When NK notices America is off, usually due to rejecting food, refusing eye contact, and his body language making him look smaller, he's more forward about asking what's wrong. For once, he has to force America to talk when he's like this, and even then he sounds just completely broken. Usually, he lets America rest his head on his shoulder or on his lap and just walk him through what happened or what was said while he runs his fingers through his hair and listens while giving the occasional advice or reassurance. America only ever mentioned the questioning of their relationship once, and NK essentially threw back America's own advice on how communication and relationships are a two way street. If he hadn't wanted a relationship with America or felt that it would be wrong, he would have told him off right then and there instead of taking a chance. In the end, no matter how difficult or convoluted their relationship was, he would still choose him.
America is extremely empathetic when NK is at his lowest, which usually is a result of trying to unpack a lot of issues that span centuries in one evening that leads to him being an emotional wreck and emotionally drained by the end of the day. He loves his spitfire of a boyfriend, and he easily forgets that he's so much older than him in nation terms; seen so much more, been through it all, and still very much hurting under his prickly guise. A lot of times all he can do is just hold him and listen, providing a venting outlet for him. From his talks with SK, he knows NK shouldered a lot and internalized a lot for the sake of his younger twin, so it's the least he can do to allow NK to finally feel what he's swallowed down for centuries and work through it all when he needs to in a more positive manner. He gives reassurance when he can, but most of the comfort he provides is through physical means or through actions, such as borderline pampering him for the rest of the following day, cooking for him, sweet cuddles, and anything else to have the other remember that he's loved and will be there when he needs a shoulder to cry on.

No worries about foreign pitchers missing two weeks…
A foreign pitcher's start was pushed back, but no worries. This is a completely different starting lineup for the LG Twins.
LG has practically been relying on a foreign one-two punch, Im Chan-kyu, and a strong bullpen. The Korean fourth and fifth starters have been underwhelming. Through seven days, LG has played 94 games, with Plutko leading the team as an ace with an 11-2 record and 2.33 ERA in 18 games, while Kelly has had his share of shaky outings, but has appeared in a team-high 21 games with a 7-5 record and 4.63 ERA. After starting the season in long relief, Lim quickly moved back into the starting rotation, going 8-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 16 starts. The trio combined for a 26-9 record and a 3.42 ERA in 55 games.
Other pitchers, including Kim Yun-sik, Lee Min-ho, Kang Hyo-jong, Lee Sang-young, Lee Jung-yong, Lee Ji-gang, and Choi Won-tae, had a combined starting record of 5-14 with a 5.28 ERA in 39 games. While most teams are worried about their 4.5 starters in Korea, LG's unreliability in the fourth and fifth innings is a critical weakness for a championship contender. Naturally, it's better for LG to have Plutko and Kelly on the mound.
However, recently, Plutko has missed about two weeks since July 25 against the KT Wiz due to a COVID-19 confirmation. He is scheduled to start against the Gwangju KIA Tigers on the 8th. Kelly was also hit in the right arm by Song Sung-moon's bat in the first inning against the Jamsil Kiwoom on July 3. He suffered a bruise and will be given a week's rest.
Last week, LG made one start with Plutko out and five starts with Korean pitchers. There were concerns, but it worked. Choi Won-tae filled the void left by the foreign pitchers, while Lee Jung-yong and Lee Ji-gang continued to improve.
Choi, who came to LG in a three-for-three trade that included Shin In-myeong, earned the win on July 30 with six innings of two-hit ball against Doosan in Jamsil. On July 5, he took the loss at Daegu Samsung Electronics, giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings, but he's not worried.
Lee recorded his first quality start since making the switch to the starting rotation on the 2nd with six innings of three-hit, no walks and four strikeouts against Jamsil Kiwoom. Lee Ji-gang also pitched the most innings since his debut, allowing two runs on four hits (one home run) and one walk in 5⅔ innings against Daegu Samsung Electronics on the 4th. He was able to go five innings after improving as a starter. On Tuesday, he pitched 5⅔ innings of two-run ball against Kiwoom, and on Sunday, he pitched five innings of one-run ball against Samsung Electronics in Daegu, fulfilling the role of a domestic ace. Samsung Electronics was in the midst of a two-game losing streak after winning seven in a row, so he fulfilled the important role of breaking the losing streak.
From Choi Won-tae on July 30 to Im Chan-gyu on July 8, Korean pitchers pitched at least five innings in six consecutive games. It was the first time this year.
This week, without Kelly, the four Korean starters will take the field for a six-game series against the KIA Tigers and Kiwoom Heroes. The worry is greatly reduced. The improved performance of the Korean starters has greatly reduced my anxiety.
LG's starting baseball is also getting better. It's a big boost for LG, which needs to defend its top spot. 먹튀검증

Farewell
OOC;;
I mean this should have been obvious for a while, but let's make it official:
This blog is closed.
I had a great run in the hetalia fandom: over 10 years, give or take. Not all at once, but more or less consistently, until recent years. Running this blog and RPing Sang Kyu (across multiple platforms) has been a big part of that. He's one of my longest running OCs and is still really important to me, but...
Over time, various things have driven me away from this fandom. Maybe it's just growing up--I'm approaching 30 at this point. I also lived in Korea--one of my life goals--got to experience that for two years. Since returning to the US, my interests and goals have turned to other things. I got married, bought a house, got a new job...and over time I found this fandom sucking up energy I didn't have. I don't keep up with current events as I once did; I simply don't have it in me to continue updating this blog anymore.
I am not Korean, if that wasn't clear, so this blog was always run from the experience of a Westerner, doing their best to do the research and portray things in a respectful (although admittedly not always 100% accurate) manner while keeping in the relatively lighthearted spirit of the source material. I hope some Korean fans will pick up the reins and fill in the gaps where I couldn't. Even having lived in Korea for a time, I can't pretend I know everything or have the experiences of people who grew up in the culture.
That being said, please DO feel free to use Sang Kyu for fanfics, fanart! Whatever! (But please don't RP him or claim him as yours...) All I ask is that you credit him to me, @circlique (or @ask-north-korea), and use him in respectful, non-hateful ways. I would love to see any fanart or fanfic that you tag me in. If you have questions about him, I would ask that you direct them to @circlique, since I plan on completely turning off the ask box to this blog after this post.
For the people who supported me over the years, or participated in my refugee fundraisers, thank you. I will always remember my time playing Sang Kyu fondly, and I hope he can continue to be an ambassador and educate even as I am not actively taking that role anymore.

I’ve been thinking about who would be the assistants/nation babysitters to some of the nations, so let’s start with the Koreas.
Yong Soo got a very serious but bright student from one of the SKY universities. He’s one of those students who studied all the time, went to after school tutoring, cried if he got a B, etc. Basically the kind of guy who has no social life and probably a lot of undiagnosed mental health issues related to stress. Anyway, Yong Soo is constantly dragging him out to concerts or to the newest cool restaurant or whatever trying to get him to relax. The intern is very insistent that Yong Soo do his work first, which he does, but he whines about it the whole time. Then the intern is unsatisfied with the quality of the work and insists it needs edits, at which point Yong Soo forcibly drags him out to go have some fun, because the guy apparently missed out on the entire college/young adult experience and needs to live a little before he enters the endless grind. The poor intern is always on top of his social customs so he always calls Yong Soo Hyung and has a hard time saying no. Yong Soo tricked him once by saying they were going on a diplomatic trip to Canada but then revealed he just wanted to go skiing and have some poutine and they didn’t actually have any diplomatic business in Canada.
Sang Kyu’s assistant is a student from a well-connected family with ties to the party who is attending Kim Il Sung University. Similarly to Yong Soo’s assistant, she shows up very honored to be serving the fatherland and is super on top of everything. But then she’s instantly let down by Sang Kyu, who doesn’t see the point of anything she’s trying to get him to do because he knows someone further up the chain will just censor it anyway. She’ll insist he has to do a report on something so he’ll half-ass something, but since he doesn’t care and knows he can get away with it, he writes what he really thinks, and she comes back horrified like “you can’t actually send this to your boss are you crazy???” She’ll also organize his schedule and try to tell him where he needs to be and when and he’s just like “no, I’m playing chess with the old folks in the park today.” And he’ll fucking drag her along while she’s freaking out about some meeting he’s not attending where he wouldn’t have been listened to anyway. Eventually she figures out the party assigned her to him in a vain attempt to reign in their stubborn nation personification. At least she kind of gets him to take care of himself a bit better, and Sang Kyu helps un-shelter her from the very sanitized existence she’s lived as a Pyongyang elite up until now.

Hey I'm back again! (Most recent anons) I've been muling over ideas for the last week and I think I finally was able to put the idea into words. I'm still not quite ready to post any of my own Commieburger content [because I'm in the process of trying to create my own N!Korea OC, and because this idea fits more with the version you use.]
After being in a relationship for some while, the stuff they say to eachother around other people start to have double or even triple meanings. Alfred doesn't quite realize it until he picks up the very slight difference in the way that North was yelling something at him, and he immediately understood that there actual meaning. Neither of them meant to do it, and no one has caught on yet, but it becomes the only way they can seem to communicate while around other nations.
Congrats on deciding to make your own OC! Just remember to do lots of research and, especially since this is N. Korea, you need to make sure you are not glorifying his government nor the human rights atrocities the country is doing. If you are looking for inspiration or need an example of how to go about that, I recommend looking at @circlique's OC of N. Korea, the same one I use for my headcannons. You can find the dedicated blog for N. Korea under ask-north-korea. I believe they do a very great job at building his character and answering questions through the OC's perspective while also being respectful of the people and culture and critical of the actual country's government and history. Always important to take as much time as you need!
For your idea, it reminds me a little of what I've done before in some of my fanfiction, as well as some of the writing by circlique on their AO3 account. Though, mostly both writings focus on keeping up the act of America and N. Korea hating each other. I do like the idea of some of the things they say to each other having a double or triple meaning, like some things they would say to a passerby may sound condescending or they are trying to rub salt in the wound, but between the two of them it is a subtle way of checking in on each other. Two ideas I got while reading your idea was one about America doing his own way of making sure NK is alright and subtly displaying his love and affection and NK very subtly consoling America, and they show their real meanings through very small physical movements or tonal shifts that they honestly didn't realize they ended up doing until much later.
America would be really cocky and essentially looks like he is mocking NK for his government not being able to feed his citizens adequately, but in reality the way he structured his words and changed tone ever so slightly indicated he was checking to make sure NK was eating properly and that he would make sure the other got something if he needed, maybe even discretely paying for delivery to NK's hotel room later if he couldn't be there with him. NK, likewise, especially after witnessing or hearing about America being called fat or someone being critical of America's health or diet, would sound like, to anyone else, he's mocking America for being so nosy about what other people do or say that he should learn to back off or that he deserves what people are saying about him, but the subtle way of how a finger or hand slightly reaches for America's and the way his tone indicates he's dialing back on his annoyance or meanness actually tells he's trying to comfort America and tell him don't take those words to heart and carry on being himself otherwise he's just going to get more depressed if he thinks about it for too long.
I think they eventually pick up on these slight changes and differences as they progress and date for longer, as they have more time to really analyze and see each other as people and figure out the little quirks each have. In the end, I think they take it as a way to develop themselves, too, such as America learning to be more tactful with his words and tone, as well as learning to not be as pushy and just learning the art of subtlety in general, while NK learns to dial back on his general mean sounding-ness and sarcasm/snark when he's trying to be nice and to be more open in private or when one-on-one.
Thinking back on one of my more popular stories on AO3, I got the idea of NK being more subtle with physical displays because, despite being so attention and touched deprived that any sort of attention he gets he will cling to whether it's good or bad, he is bad at initiating physical touch himself unless he's really passionate. He also doesn't communicate wants that clearly since he's not used to opening up that much and his brain is so used to suppressing his own wants and desires for the sake of putting everything and everyone else first that he has a hard time letting himself be free to act on his own desires and wants, so if he wants to cuddle or hold hands, his fingers or hand act just ever so slightly quicker than his brain, but his brain catches up before any full action is made, thus looking like a twitch or subtle hand shift. NK, if it is just America and him alone, is prone to pouting as well, though it mostly comes when he isn't getting what he wants and he himself doesn't realize he's doing it unless America pointed it out.
I've left a few excerpts from one of my stories to help kind of clarify what I'm talking about with the changes in how America and NK act around each other:
"America quirked an eyebrow at the Korean, unused to the other relenting that easily. He was about to leave to fix up the couch when he noticed the subtle pout on the smaller man’s lips. The one thing he can say for certain about the past year of their blossoming relationship is that he started picking up on North’s quirks; including when North was trying to express what he actually wanted. If the pout weren’t present, he would have just figured the other was nervous, but North never pouts unless he isn’t getting what he really wants." "He glanced over to his left and noticed North opened his eyes again, this time seeing the conflicted look. America raised an eyebrow, then saw the twitch of one of North’s fingers reaching out towards him. After a year, he had learned that sometimes North was too scared to verbally ask for something if he felt insecure about it, and he took the hint. 'If you want, you can cuddle. Think of it like we do normally on the couch watching a movie.' America coaxed the hesitant Korean, opening up his arm so his side was exposed." - Excerpts from "First Night With One Bed"
