I am BEGGING this fandom to realize that ST is just not as deep as some of y'all make it out to be. Like the Duffers just aren't that good at writing or directing.

Also! Half this show is nostalgia bait! Which is actually a really important part of this conversation because I've seen people use scenes that were literally just movie throw back scenes to talk shit about characters when the scenes were literally just there to be Easter eggs. The Duffers barely even put any emotional direction into their scripts, it almost always ends up on the shoulders of the actors (which frankly explains some inconsistency with the party's characterization when you aren't giving enough direction to the literally child actors, some of which didn't start acting professionally until st). A lot of the metaphors they put into the show are also not that subtle. Which to be fair to the Duffers on this point, they don't NEED to be! The problem is that a lot of this fandom just glances over the obvious canonical metaphors and wholesale makes up new meanings to things. Like it's at a level that is extremely concerning!

Analysing works on a deep level is great, and there's plenty of media out there that does have 50 million meanings that you have to read or watch over and over again to catch every single line, joke reference, etc. but stranger things just ain't one of them.

i just finished watching the mh370 documentary and im believing every theory possible cause im very interested in it. it may have been shot down in the south china sea, it may have crashed in the south indian ocean, it may have been hijacked by somebody on the plane, it may have been the pilot (this is the least believable for me personally). and etc. im really hoping. like really really hoping that one day we get to know what has happened to that plane and those passengers.

we lost trace to the plane even in modern times with technology. they searched for 3 years. just debris and nothing else. and even that path pilot zaharie supposedly planned out in the flight simulator was held by the fbi for those 3 years before they let the public know, meaning there could be more they're not telling us. there is literally no way they didn't find anything?? a plane can't just disappear into thin air. something's being hidden bro.

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

I don’t think the Watcher TV move is being made out of greed. They have high production costs, and artists do deserve to be paid for their work. I do, however, think it is a monumentally stupid decision.

First of all, who in their right minds thinks the best way to announce a paywall is a hyped up countdown to a “big surprise”? They literally set themselves up with that.

Second, this is not sustainable. People have been comparing it to other creator-run streaming services like Dropout or Nebula, but those services have bigger audiences, bigger casts, and way more frequent uploads. In Dropout’s case, its more than three times the content (at least) for the same price.

I’m not gonna argue about how it sucks for people who can’t afford it. Unfortunately “artists deserve to be paid” and “everyone deserves art to bring them joy” are both contradictory but true. I will however point out that the majority of Watchers’ audience is young or lower-income. Pricing has to be decided with your target audience in mind.

This didn’t happen because Watcher got insanely evil and greedy, and its true that artists deserve to be paid.

But this was an objectively bad decision no matter where you stand. If Watcher doesn’t change course I will not be surprised to hear them declare bankruptcy in a year or two.
