Kind of got a fun little headcanon that there are actually WAY more people in the town of Edda who are fully aware of their status' as reincarnated gods and are just like: "Eh. It is what it is." and just go about their everyday lives as if nothing much has really changed with the occasional "YOU KNOW!" + "AND YOU KNOW!" moment spattered in.

I love this idea because it just makes Magne, Laurits and the others attempting to do hella sus shit in a completely unsubtle manner so much funnier when you imagine the handful of townsfolk, who always seem to be around for their shenanigans, just watching them and shaking their heads like: "Ah shit, Thor and Loki are back at it again."

Just watched Ragnarok (2020) and I was wondering a few things:

First, Laurits’ and Magne’s ages, how many grades Laurits skipped and how old he was when their dad died. Season 2 revealed Magne’s age (17, then 18 sometime between May 17 and summer vacation). It also gave us some clues about Laurits. I am assuming he is 16 during season 2, meaning that he skipped 2 years, because Turid said he was concieved 17 years ago. In Norway your grade dependence on the year you are born (so there isn’t a cut-off date during summer like in some other countries), so there is no need to figure out when their birthdays are in terms how many grades Laurits skipped. 

It also means that Laurits was most likely about 4 when their dad died, since Magne was 6. 

Second, The Midgard Serpent. At first I thought it was a mistake, or creative liberty that Laurits and Erik said that Loki gave birth to the Midgard Serpent, instead of having fathered it. But I read some reasearch, and found out that according to some sources, Loki actually did birth it. 

Thirdly, I didn’t like Harry being Tyr. Well, at least not in the scene where he beat up a kid for stealing. Tyr is the god of war (well, norse gods are rarely “the god of x” strictly speaking, but some or associated strongly with certain things, or were considered to be good to pray to for specific requests, like a good harvest or victory in combat) but he is also associated with justice and treaties, and I just didn’t like how he could beat up a guy like that. But that is maybe because I always imagined him as someone more collected. and disciplined, instead of being violent and short-fused. I guess it makes sense for a god associated with justice to not be happy with being stolen from. 

Fourth, Iman’s powers are weird to me. Nowhere is Freya implied to have such powers. Her being associated with love and lust doesn’t make it less weird, since her powers seemsto be more about control, than making someone love her. People don’t mindlessly obey someone out of love, infatuation or attraction. So I don’t know what to make of her powers. I feel like Freyja/Iman could have had many other interesting powers, that would fit more with Freyja’s portayal in the mythology. Though I guess this opens the door for interesting character arcs and questions about how and when she should use her gift. Struggling with temptation, or (which I find even more interesting) with the moral implications of using it on someone for a good/non-selfish/important cause, since it could prevent something bad, but it would also still take somoene’s free will from them, even if it is only temporary. 

Fiftly, I am really curious about how Asbjörn’s death, and how it affected his family. Turid might have bulimia, or struggle with some sort of disordered eating (nb: I think this is the first time I have ever seen a parent in media struggle with a issue like that, which is interesting). Did she develope these issues before Asbjorn’s death? Or did the come from losing a husband and the stress of being a financially struggling single mom? Then there are her sons. Magne seems to remember him to a certain extent, and Laurits too, though he says he was too young to remember him.

IMAN REZA THE LOML

Ragnarok is extremely good at referring back to norse mythos and translating specific things less known in said mythos to the screen but here are a few things I would have LOVED for them to touch on or refer to;

- Loki and Thor both being redheads in the original norse texts

I just feel like it was a bit of a missed opportunity to do what a lot of modern interpretations of Thor and Loki have done, in letting the fact that the two both have red hair fall to the wayside. (Quick little shout out to God of War for being one of the first instances where I've seen that particular trait kept within their character designs-)

The feature itself was often heavily noted upon anywhere Thor and Loki were concerned. So much so that I'm fairly certain it was one of the reasons why their initial relationship, that of an uncle (Loki) and a nephew (Thor), eventually evolved culturally into that of surrogate siblings.

It also served to highlight just how similar the two actually were. Most notably in how tempestuous both their tempers could be and how prideful they both are as well. Not to mention it would serve as a highlight of the disparity between Thor's less than stellar actions being glorified while Loki's are denounced as tricks and leave him villified.

Not to mention from a story telling standpoint, it would have made the reveal that Laurits is actually Vidar's son and not Asbjørn's a bit less easy to clock but I digress.

- An acknowledgment of a majority of the more notable Aesir having Jotunn ancestry

In terms of the way the show was written, it is understandable that this particular tidbit of info wasn't exactly included.

But it really would have added an interesting take to how Laurits interacted with the other gods, particularly where his more direct connection to the Jotunn in this life was concerned. Because some of the most famous of the Aesir either had direct genealogical or inherited links to the Jotnar in the original myths. Thor, Tyr, Heimdall and even Odin himself to name a few.

So the hypocritical stance the gods (Wotan in particular-) took against Laurits in initially shunning him away for being both Loki in his past life and having direct Jotunn ancestry in this life really would have just nailed home how fickle the other gods truly are. A fact that would have made their eventual turn against Magne for losing his abilities, when he was the one to start the fight against the Jutuls, feel even more like a stab in the back.

- More references to Angrboða and the other children she had with Loki

This is mainly just a little gripe I'd had with the show, in the fact that they all but ignored just how significant Angrboða's union with Loki truly was and what their children endured at the hands of the Aesir simply for being born, especially Fenrir.

I do understand it was due to Laurits being gay in the show (as well as a teenager) but I honestly can't help but feel that they made him so as a way to not have to stress too much about tackling the modern creation stories of Fenrir and Hel. Which sucks because the way they brought Jormungandr to life was genuinely a really interesting take on things.

This is all just my opinion though, if you have differing ones that's more than fine!

Shadravan Movie Review

Shadravan is the second movie directed by Hosein Namazi first presented in the 40th fajr festival and now available on Televika. Shot in the suburban parts of Tehran, Shadravan is about a slum-dwelling family. Living hand to mouth by merely selling herbs, Nader, the oldest child of the family, has to pay all the expenses of his now deceased father’s hospital treatment and burial. This comedy mainly centers on this family’s effort to pay the bills for their father’s funeral. Shadravan is written and directed by Hosein Namazi and produced by Abas Naderan.

   A poor and irresponsible dad is much of a trouble even once dead. Meanwhile, all the people related to the dead man, one way or another, try to help the family organize a reputable memorial service which most probably reminds us of Mehmane maman in which neighbours and relatives united to throw a party. Shadravan is a black comedy illustrating how Orwellian life is for poverty-stricken people.

   The movie is appealing and has potentials. It stands away from misplaced levity and fecklessness. It’s a good example of observational comedy. There is a curious paradox between the bitter events of the story and a twinge of comedy in them.

Appealing and involving, Shadravan has high potentials. The acting and the paradox between tone and content is exciting and unpredictable. Some of the actors, namely Behrang Alavi play quite professionally. Having said that, the film doesn’t have much to offer past the first 20 minutes or so and this shortcoming  has its roots in the script’s lack of clarity and direction. The story seems stranded which is so common in Iranian movies. What is Shadravan really all about? A man’s metamorphosis from a selfish person to a devoted one? The importance of helping someone up? or an effort to release a corpse from the hospital?!

Apparently, it is about all the above-mentioned, but in practice the director hasn’t been able to link these ideas well togetherEach section of the movie deals with one aspect and all you see is incompatibility.

Just like many other films produced in the contemporary cinema of Iran, Shadravan takes its audience as naïve, undemanding and uncritical!It reminds us of the soap operas of 70s in Iran like Zire Asemane Shahr with one notable difference and that is cheap and vulgar humour. Actors like Gelare Abasi and Nazanin Bayati who had only begun to make a name for themselves, ruined their reputation by appearing in this movie.

I had written an account of this story in a newspaper and decided to make a movie out of it using my own interpretation. If I feel like I have what it takes to make a film, I’ll definitely go for it. The ending of Shadravan is by no means comic, but rather melodramatic and a sweet one indeed!

When I was offered a role in Shadravan, I admired Hosein Namazi and Abas Naderan for having taken this risk. I went through the script and weren’t concerned about my different though not challenging role.

Roya Teymoorian

Hosein Namazi and I had already worked with each other. I already knew he embarks on a new movie production after listening to many ideas and suggestions. Hence, I didn’t hesitate to play the role of Nazi. I would call it a transparent refreshing movie.

Perkenalkan nama saya Reza Nur Muharan dari Angkatan dasar YISC Al Azhar, berangkat dari sebuah kekurangan saya mengenai agama islam, saya pun mencari tempat dimana ada tempat yang bisa memfasilitasi kekurangan saya dalam agama islam tersebut. Alhamdulillah saya dipertemukan dengan YISC Al Azhar dimana YISC Al Azhar ini adalah sebuah wadah saya dalam memperbaiki kekurangan saya mengenai agama islam dan sebuah lingkungan atau komunitas yang dapat mendorong untuk selalu ingat kepada Allah Swt serta agama islam ini.

Pada karya tulis ini saya akan menjelaskan secara singkat mengenai pembelajaran apa saja yang sudah saya dapat dalam setiap pertemuan kajian SII yang diadakan oleh YISC Al Azhar yang saya rangkum dengan judul Islam Agama yang Penuh dengan Ilmu.

Dalam agama islam ilmu adalah sesuatu hal yang tidak akan ada habisnya maka dari itu seorang muslim tidak ada istilah telah cukup dalam mempelajari ilmu agama islam maka dari itu disini saya akan membahas beberapa ilmu yang saya pelajari dan saya rangkum dalam topik kali ini yaitu:

Iman Kepada Alah

pengertian iman kepada Allah SWT adalah mempercayai dan meyakini dengan sepenuh hati bahwa Allah itu ada (wujud). Artinya, setiap muslim wajib mempercayai-Nya walaupun belum pernah melihat wujud-Nya, mendengar suara-Nya, bahkan menyentuh-Nya.

2. Syahadatain

Syahadatain merupakan komponen yang sangat penting bagi umat muslim. Syahadatain merupakan salah satu rukun Islam yang wajib yang harus dilakukan oleh umat muslim. Ini merupakan kalimat yang berupa sebuah kesaksian dan pengakuan untuk menyembah Allah sebagai satu-satu Dzat yang patut disembah. Bukan hanya itu, syahadat juga berisi pengakuan terhadap kemuliaan Muhammad SAW sebagai utusan Allah.

3. Konsep wahyu dan kenabian

Dalam syariat Islam, wahyu adalah kalam atau perkataan dari Allah, yang diturunkan kepada seluruh makhluk-Nya dengan perantara malaikat ataupun secara langsung. Kata "wahyu" adalah kata benda, dan bentuk kata kerjanya adalah awha-yuhi, arti kata wahyu adalah pemberitahuan secara tersembunyi dan cepat.

konsep kenabian Islam dapat kita pelajari dari dua istilah utama yaitu Nabi dan Rasul. Rasul memiliki arti manusia yang mendapatkan tugas khusus dari Allah SWT untuk menyampaikan pesan-Nya. Rasulullah yang mendapatkan wahyu memiliki kewajiban untuk mengajarkan kepada umatnya. Sedangkan yang dimaksud dengan Nabi yaitu manusia yang mendapatkan wahyu dan tidak memiliki kewajiban untuk mensyiarkannya kepada umat manusia.

 Untuk itu dapat dikatakan bahwa setiap rasul adalah nabi akan tetapi seorang nabi belum tentu rasul. Meskipun demikian perbedaan tersebut bukan berarti melemahkan salah satu konsep tertentu. Kedua istilah tersebut memiliki kesamaan yaitu untuk mengajak seluruh umat manusia agar beriman dan bertakwa kepada Allah SWT. Perintah Allah SWT kepada para nabi dan rasul yang utama adalah untuk menyebarkan ajaran Islam ke seluruh umat manusia.

4. Qada dan Qadar

Apa itu qadha dan qadar? Qadha yaitu ketetapan Allah SWT semenjak zaman azali (zaman dahulu sebelum diciptakan alam semesta) sesuai dengan kehendak-Nya mengenai segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan mahluknya. Qadar yaitu Perwujudan menurut qadha atau ketetapan Allah SWT pada kadar tertentu sesuai dengan kehendak-Nya. Qadarnya Allah ini juga biasa diklaim menggunakan kata takdir.

5. Woldview of Islam

Budaya Indonesia tengah mengahadapi krisis yang mengancam kemajuannya. krisis di berbagai macam aspek, mulai dari pejabat-pejabat kerdil, krisis moral dan kapitalisme. Manusia memahami dan menanggapi masalah secara tidak benar. Pandangan yang salah dari para pemimpin kita ini telah menyebabkan kejatuhan bangsa dan mengancam budayanya.

Islam, satu-satunya agama yang nyata dan bagian dari budaya Indonesia, adalah solusi utama bagi persoalan-persoalan rakyat. Islam memiliki perspektif yang unik. Ketika kita melihat kesulitan umat saat ini, Woldview of Islam menjadi salah satu pemahaman terbaik untuk saat ini.

Woldview of Islam membantu kita memahami kepribadian dan budaya kita, berinteraksi dengan alam, individu, bangsa, budaya, dan peradaban, mengoreksi perilaku, nilai, sudut pandang, dan moralitas kita, serta membangun gagasan politik dan sosiologis.

Woldview of Islam adalah yang paling lengkap dan ideal karena mencakup masalah pribadi, sosial, ekonomi, budaya, moral, spiritual, dan aqidah. Woldview of Islam meliputi alam semesta, tujuan hidup, Tuhan, masyarakat, dan akhirat.

6. Iman, Islam dan Ihsan

Iman, Islam, dan Ihsan memiliki kaitan yang erat. Untuk memahami hubungan ketiganya, perlu dipahami terlebih dahulu pengertian dari iman, Islam, dan ihsan.  

Iman tersebut meliputi enam perkara yang disebut dengan rukun iman. Di antarany ada percaya kepada Allah, malaikat, hari akhir, kitab-kitab, nabi atau rasul. dan takdir yang baik maupun buruk.

Islam berarti ketundukan (taslim), kepasrahan, menerima, tidak menolak, tidak membantah, dan tidak membangkang. Artinya, penyerahan diri sepenuhnya kepada Allah SWT. Lima poin penting yang membentuk kerangka Islam atau biasa disebut dengan rukun Islam adalah bersyahadat bahwa tidak ada Tuhan kecuali Allah dan rasulNya, mendirikan sholat, menunaikan zakat, puasa Ramadhan, dan mengerjakan haji bila mampu.

ihsan adalah berbakti dan mengabdikan diri kepada Allah SWT dengan dilandasi dengan kesadaran dan keikhlasan. Berbakti kepada Allah tersebut dapat berupa berbuat sesuatu yang bermanfaat, baik untuk diri sendiri maupun sesama manusia.

7. Pedoman Kehidupan

Pedoman kehidupan seseorang muslim adalah Al-Qur’an, Hal itu karena Al-Quran memiliki nilai-nilai pedoman, petunjuk, dan kemuliaan pada zat-Nya yang kesemua itu harus dipelihara dan dijaga dengan baik.

Al Qur’an merupakan kitab suci umat islam yang berisi firman Allah yang diturunkan kepada nabi Muhammad Saw dengan perantara malaikat jibril yang tertulis didalam mushaf-mushaf yang diriwayatkan dengan jalan mutawatir dan yang membacanya dipandang beribadah. Al Qur’an diturunkan Allah kepada manusia untuk dibaca dan diamalkan. Tanpa membaca manusia tidak akan mengerti isinya dan tanpa mengamalkannya manusia tidak dapat merasakan kebaikan dan keutamaan petunjuk Allah dalam Al Qur’an.

Demikian yang dapat saya rangkum selama mengikuti kajian SII di YISC Al Azhar, dengan topik Islam Agama yang penuh dengan Ilmu, karena dalam rangkuman saya buat ini memiliki banyak sekali ilmu yang bisa di pelajari dan semoga ilmu yang saya rangkum dalam karya tulis ini dapat bermanfaat bagi para pembacanya.

Diakhir kata saya memiliki pesan yang mungkin bisa menambah semangat dalam mencari ilmu, “ilmu ibarat pelindung yang terbuat dari perisai/tameng, semakin kuat perisai/tameng tersebut maka perlindungannya pun semakin kuat namun jika perisai tersebut lemah maka akan mudah rapuh bahkan hancur, sama halnya dengan ilmu. Maka dari itu perbanyak ilmu agar kita menjadi pribadi yang kuat dalam memperjuangkan islam dan tidak mudah terpengaruh dengan hal yang menyimpang dari syariat islam.
