So I picked a niche one for this time around, huh? This show is twenty (20) years old, since time is unfortunately linear. I fully expect to be able to count the notes on this one on one hand, maaaybe two. But if if you’re vidding on tumblr for the notes, you’re pursuing the wrong hobby. It’s about the passion, guys, it’s about the nostalgia. And this show is extremely nostalgic to me, almost certainly my most rewatched show full stop. @fabella-aka-wistfulfever ‘s wonderful Darien/Bobby vid of a month or so ago helped spur me to make some fan content in this sadly neglected fandom, so tysm for that + the help with the footage!
Speaking of footage, I can’t help but wish that I were not so attached to some pretty old-ass shows, because season 2 of I-Man hasn’t even been released on DVD and the s1 DVDs seem to not even be 480p, which is. A situation. Pretty sure you can tell, but that can’t be helped. It’s not my prettiest vid, but it is a lot of fun, I think.
I made the dubious choice of starting this vid after finishing a full rewatch, i.e. after watching the s2 finale. I don’t think the s2 finale has ever failed to piss me off, I find it incredibly frustrating and none of the characters come out of it looking shiny, except maybe Darien himself (as much as he can be shiny). It might be subtle, but a little of that frustration made it into ‘Weak’. This vid is in part about all the self-destructive choices that Darien’s made -- I’ve joked that this vid is 3min20 of me just going “hmm. inadvisable.” and making a pointed note on a clipboard -- but some of those choices are e.g. relying on Claire (considering how highly she prioritizes her position and scientific clout), and getting too comfortable around the Official. I am weak (aha) and enjoy some found family as much as anyone, but there’s some pretty messed-up aspects to this family.
If you've never watched The Invisible Man and got this far for some reason -- if you have the patience to seek out shows that aren’t on Netflix, this is some fun, tropey nonsense that I’ve somehow managed to watch at least... 4 times? All the way through. Probably more than four. Aspects of it have not aged well but watching critically, to my view, is part of the fun. So yeah, consider it a rec.
