That meme that I posted made me wanna analyze their first awkward kiss.

I'll quickly skip over their conversation with Baghra and their conversation with each other minus some important parts.

The Darkling sees that even though her power has improved it's not enough to be used against the volcra.

Baghra has changed her tune apparently. All the other times she was alone with Alina she was saying: "Your power is not enough! Try again! Again!". Now she's like "No, I think it is enough. Give her an amplifier" out of an attempt to persuade the Darkling not to go after the Stag.

Baghra brings out her usual toxic self and the Darkling alludes that he has often been verbally attacked by his mother.

YES! STAND UP TO HER!!

Seeing a victim of abuse standing up to his abuser is so empowering.

The Darkling tells Baghra to take her toxic ass and leave them the fuck alone.

He sees how her powers have changed her physically and have given her health and vitality.

Alina is the one that breaks the silence and asks him about the Stag.

He's trying to let her know that just because her powers aren't enough, that doesn't mean that she's worthless. And even admits that he cannot deal with the Fold himself. He's making an effort to make her feel less bad about herself.

Now he's even apologising for giving her false hope. He promised her the Stag and he can't find it.

He even doubts himself and can't shake off the words Baghra had told him. Even though they disagree on almost everything, he seems to always keep her words in his mind.

Actually no Alina, Baghra is no good for Aleksander. She's just the person the lowers his confidence.

a/n: I know most people are here for the svt posts but it’s been a while since I have done an exo one. I literally just pre-ordered D.O.’s albums; I am already delusional as is without getting new do kyungsoo content :’)

Anyway, bc of having lived in a studio apartment complex, I well aware that nothing breaks or makes living in student housing more than roommates. CURSE YOU BONGO DUDE I AM STILL NOT OVER YOU WAKING ME UP AT MIDNIGHT WITH YOUR LACK OF RHYTHM.

Xiumin/Minseok: 7/10

✾ He would nag the entire time that the house is not clean enough and that you left your shit lying around. Whoever said that student housing tends to be messy has not met Xiumin.

✾ He has been cleaning ever since he moved in and will not stop until he has moved out. Xiumin will scold you when you try to help him out as you are ‘not cleaning right’, whatever that means. Fortunately, that means he will rarely ask you to help him with the chores so you still get to enjoy a clean house without having to put the effort in.

✾ Honestly, his healthy lifestyle choices kind of motivate you to do better. He will definitely take you with him to the gym when you let it drop that you might be interested in getting in shape. Free gym coach, basically.

✾ He organizes roommate days weekly where the two of you spend planned time together because he believes that roommates should become/be friends.

Suho/Junmyeon: 9/10

✾ He will adopt you as one of his children. The moment you step foot in your shared housing, he has accepted that he has yet another child to take care of and no, you can’t convince him otherwise.

✾ He takes care of you and makes you feel right at home; he is the definition of the mom friend. Are you having trouble making new friends? He will introduce you to his. Have you been too busy studying and forgotten to eat? He will drop by the grocery store.

✾ The only downside to roommate Suho is that he can be overbearing and slightly judgy. You will hear “I am not mad, just disappointed” a lot when you, for instance, decide to go to out with your friends during finals. Apparently, that is irresponsible.

✾ He drives you absolutely insane and makes you regret moving in with him. Nobody is safe from his teasing and antics and you are stuck with it until the lease is up.

✾ He convinces you to divide the chores through games that he somehow always ends up winning. He has not done any chores since he moved in and he somehow keeps convincing you that this is the fairest way to determine who has to do the dishes.

✾ Boundaries, what boundaries? Locked doors will not keep him out. He will definitely throw himself on your bed telling you all about the drama of people you do not know when you are trying to study for an important test in the quiet solitude of your room. If you’re home, he will not leave you alone.

✾ Always spontaneously invites people over and forgets to text you about it. At this point, all his friends have seen you in your comfy but definitely not fashionable clothes.

Chen/Jongdae: -1000000000000/10

✾ He. Is. So. Loud.

✾ The walls are way too thin to live with him. You can always hear him before you even see him. The type to wake you up in the middle of the night or early in the morning because he has no awareness of how loud he truly is.

✾ It wouldn’t even be such a problem, but bro never shuts up either. If he is not talking, he is constantly singing or humming. Chen truly doesn't have an off button.

✾ Add to the loudness problem that Chen is a morning person. He is so chirpy in the morning, singing a song on top of his lungs whilst he eats his breakfast. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he is the type to try and have full on conversations with you minutes after you’ve woken up, getting offended when your replies are curt.

✾ You had to ban game nights because he gets too competitive, whining so incredibly loudly every time he loses. One time the neighbours filed a noise complaint and he still maintains he wasn’t that loud.

Chanyeol: 8/10

✾ A really fun person to live with if you like a very present roommate. He will constantly ask you to hang out and play games or watch movies because he can’t be alone for five minutes. However, compared to Baekyhun, his energy is a lot more chill.

✾ He will spend a lot of money on random geeky stuff, filling up the entire shared apartment with figurines, posters and that one Halloween costume that definitely was way too expensive. I can see him being the type to have a hallway full of boxes of stuff he ordered online. He has no idea of what actually is in them because he ordered it impulsively so long ago.

✾ Despite you living in student housing, he will make sure the interior looks stunning. He cares way too much about everything matching and will not allow you to place anything in the house without discussing it with him first. You can’t really be mad at it because your place looks like an Ikea showroom.  

✾ Docking points because he will be either playing music or games at night. Trust me, nothing is worse than having someone practice their instrument when you are trying to sleep (Curse you bongo dude). All you can hear is him practising the same guitar riffs over and over again.

D.O./Kyungsoo: 6.5/10

✾ Listen, his cooking is amazing, it would make being his roommate worthwhile. He will always make enough food for the both of you, and if you do not dine together, he will leave his leftovers for you in the fridge to try. He genuinely enjoys cooking for others and is happy to try out new recipes on you.

✾ That being said, living with him is more like calmly co-existing in the same space. He will only talk to you when absolutely necessary and it takes him a long while to really open up to you (if he does at all).

✾ He respects your personal space and wants you to respect his, meaning he won’t go out of his way to spend time together. Being roommates does not automatically mean that you have to be/are friends in his book. If you click, that’s neat, but don’t expect him to invite you over for game nights for the first few months.

✾ He is definitely the passive-aggressive roommate that sends you a text over the smallest of things. Why confront you face-to-face when can send you a 2 AM text telling you to pick up that one sock that fell out of your laundry basket?

Kai/Jongin: 6/10

✾ He is an absolute sweetie, do not get me wrong. With his friendly and bubbly personality, he will try his hardest to become friends with his roommates. He will take every initiative to organize roommate events such as game nights, clubbing, etc.

✾ That being said, do not leave him alone in the kitchen, he will definitely accidentally set it on fire and you will be the one that has to clean up because do we really trust him after that? We have all seen his attempts at cooking, it never fails to be a disaster, so guess who is in charge of cooking from then on.

✾ Who needs matching cups and plates? Not you because he has shattered at least one of each set. Do not get too attached to your worldly possessions because Kai will knock them over or drop them on accident.

✾ He genuinely wants to help out with chores but he is so clumsy you still end up doing most of them. You can’t even be mad at him because, well, it is Kai.

Sehun: 2/10

✾ Is he even your roommate? You have no idea, he rarely helps out with anything. He has been so spoiled that he refuses to lift a finger and at this point, you feel brainwashed because he is getting away with it.

✾ If you are younger than him, he will be paying for everything you guys need, so that is a win. If not, be prepared for your bank account to take a massive hit because “the oldest should pay.”

✾ You guys get a lot of free stuff as Sehun knows to subtly let it drop to his friends, mostly Suho, that you guys direly need something. All of his friends basically function as sugar daddies, and neither of you is complaining about the free toilet paper.

✾ The type of roommate that judges your outfits and comments “Are you really going to wear that?” and leaves you on read when you text him about rent. He can be nice but tends to choose violence every time he wakes up. I hope that you’ve got thick skin.

While March liked to indulge in a bit of teasing herself, especially when it was directed against Dan Heng or the Astral Express’ dumpster diving raccoon, she preferred to avoid becoming the target. And while she was far from taking it personally, her healthy level of narcissism blocking things from going under her skin better than any armor ever could, the idea of a joke being at her expense still didn’t completely sit right with her.

That being said, your addiction of teasing anything and anyone more acquainted than a total stranger was as much a part of you as your more agreeable characteristics, so until she found a way to fundamentally change that brain of yours she’d have to live with it.

When you found March staring at a pile of cardboard boxes, a sense of panic shot through your body as you feared a certain crewmembers hobbies might have rubbed off on her, your impulses immediately telling you to drag her away from there before she could even start thinking about throwing herself at them and searching them for whatever items of… value could be found in them. 

But instead of having to struggle with pulling her away, March almost jumped when you grabbed her hand, having been too focused to notice you in the first place, the thoughtful look on her face quickly being replaced by one of surprise.

“Wha- Oh it’s you. What are you sneaking up on me for? You almost gave me a heart attack”, she complained before quickly calming down, looking back towards the boxes as you apologized.

“So…”, you stretched the word for as long as you could before it started to sound too ridiculous, even for you “What are you thinking about? A fort built from Cardboards?”, you attempted to joke, only for her face to light up for a split second.

“That’s not even a bad idea, I should write that one down”, she answered before returning to silence, almost causing you to dig a little further, only for her to answer your questions before you could reiterate them.

“Aren’t this many boxes a bit… excessive? It’s quite a mess”, the girl wondered out loud, prompting you to take a closer look yourself.

“You might be right. I mean… Asta is quite renowned for being a generous spender, but I’m still surprised to hear those words from you”, you stated, only for March’s head to turn towards you faster than you could count to 3. 

“And why is that?”

“I mean, considering your room resembles an active warzone”, you were quick to answer, causing her mouth to open almost immediately.

“It’s not that bad. I just have more important things to do than cleaning it up every day”, she defended herself with a pout before her facial expressions quickly shifted into a glare . “Why do you know how my room looks in the first place? Are you sneaking into other people’s rooms while they aren’t there?”, she accused you, only for your face to remain as deadpanned as a rock.

“March 7th. You asked me to grab your camera from your room this morning.” Your explanation made her look down at the item attached to her clothes before letting out an awkward chuckle.

“Guess you’re right. Sorry”, she apologized, only for whatever reaction you had in store to be cut off by a familiar voice ringing out.

“That being said, you really should tidy your room up more often, March.” As the two of you looked behind you, you were greeted by the sight of Himeko standing in the door, a smile on her face as she looked like she had been there for the entirety of your conversation, just listening and enjoying the show.

How can a parasite devoid of all true emotions, only capable of emitting false personas taken from culture, consider themselves any gender identity?

Just because he has been called a he, and they have been called they, it doesn't define any gender. Sure, he can mean male, but they is used to define when you're unaware of someone's gender, so you use it to be respectful; it does not denote gender.

It is actually kind of disrespectful to people who are transgender, given that a "funky colourful skeleton" suddenly meaning transgender is rather offensive.

I’M trans. i’m literally transgender, nonbinary transmasc, and have identified as such since i was ten or eleven? i’ve been diagnosed w gender dysphoria, i’ve been on T, and i plan to get top surgery in the future! i say fresh is trans because he’s a very personal character to me, so i project that on him, and it makes me happy. i wasn’t born yesterday, man, i know the issue w the entire ‘nonhuman = nonbinary’ thing, bc, again, i’ve IDed as nb for almost ten years, and i would have when i was even younger if i knew the label existed! i wasn’t the one that created fresh or made the decision for him to be explicitly NB/agender, but it’s very personal to me as someone with the same label, so i’m reclaiming it. putting the rest under a readmore bc its long, and this ^ was the most important part imo

to me, it’s like someone who very closely identifies with mewtwo talking abt mewtwo being nonbinary. is mewtwo completely nonhuman and divorced from the human concept of gender? yes! but actual nonbinary people can see themselves in him, even with the negative connotations (that, again, has been a big issue in media for decades,) and reclaim it for themselves. it’s different than someone who isn’t trans or nb calling an alien or robot character nb, because we have the genuine lived experience, and if it makes us happy to do so, especially with such few nb characters in non-niche media that ARE actually human/aren’t some boy/girl fusion, i, personally, don’t see much of a problem with it.

i don’t joke about fresh being nonbinary because he’s a ‘funky colorful skeleton,’ i do it because 1. he’s a character that’s been explicitly identified as agender, 2. i’m agender and 3. he’s a character that’s very, very very personal to me, and it makes me happy to project my experience on him. obviously, he’s not trans, he’s a body-hopping parasite. but it’s something that brings me comfort and makes me happy, man, and that’s why i talk abt it, not bc hes the pinnacle of agender or aroace representation. Surviving Eddie Munson - Chapter 19

Lucas is lying on his bed while lazily tossing a kickball up into the air with his legs dangling off the edge. He’s been home for maybe an hour tops and yet Dustin and Erica have been at each other’s throats the entire time, a conversation he has long since checked out of.

His eyes are tracing an invisible pattern in his ceiling when suddenly his ball is knocked clean out of the air, hitting the wall with a satisfying thwack. He quickly sits upright and glares at the culprit.

“Erica, I swear, you are seriously getting on my nerves today.” He hisses.

“Well excuse me, I must have missed the part where I asked for your opinion,” she bites back at him.

“We have another--” Dustin starts to say before Lucas cuts him off, holding a hand out in protest.

“Nope. I’m done. We have tried about a million different things and literally not a single one of them has worked!”

“But this one--”

“Uh-uh. You can do what you want, but I’m gonna go hang out with my friends and have a good time. It’s The Fourth of July,” he emphasizes the importance of the date with a pointed look.

“We can’t do this one without you, though!” Dustin cries out in desperation.

“Even better! Please, let’s just leave them alone and focus on blowing shit up and eating hot dogs like normal, sane people.”

Dustin looks highly disappointed but thankfully ceases anymore attempts to get Lucas to join in on whatever mad scheme he and his little sister have cooked up this time.

Erica just rolls her eyes and lets out an arrogant chuckle, waving them off. “In that case, I’m going to go see what Miki and Kim are doing later. Bye, losers!”

“Do you not care about protecting the sanctity of true love?” His friend complains from his spot in Lucas’ desk chair, pouting miserably.

“If it’s true love, then they’ll do it on their own time bro.”

Eddie is sitting on top of his van cross-legged, staring off into the distance, rhythmically tapping his rings on the warm metal roof. Max approached him last week and asked if he could take her to Billy’s grave today, so this morning he scooped her and El up and made the drive over to the cemetery, with an added promise of a pancake breakfast afterwards.

Understandably, Steve wasn’t all too keen on tagging along, considering what happened the last time. They’ve all done a good job at coping with their trauma and setting healthy boundaries, and he’s grateful he’s able to help in ways that his boyfriend can’t.

The girls have been sitting in front of the headstone for well over half an hour now, leaned up against each other with a box of tissues. Eddie vaguely remembers Billy from their time together in school during his second round of senior year, and while he would never say it out loud, he absolutely hated his guts. He was a bully to virtually anyone he crossed paths with, spewing some truly heinous shit without a single regard for the well being of those around him.

Despite his lack of redeeming qualities, Max was still deeply affected by his death, and it’s only natural for her to want to pay her respects. Eddie admires that about her, to do what she thinks is right even if it might be difficult

He lies down on his back to stretch out, crossing his ankles and lacing his fingers behind his head to give his neck some support. The sun crests through the clouds, shining warm light down onto him, and he starts to flush at the memory of last night. Only Steve could pick out one of his biggest childhood insecurities and turn it into something to be praised. For all his life, he’s been picked on for this and that, always for things completely out of control – like his complexion.

“Hey, can we go now?” A voice draws him out of his thoughts, startling him into a sitting position. He peers over the edge to find Max and El looking up at him with red-rimmed eyes.

“Yeah,” he breathes out his reply shakily before hopping down. Giving them a once over, he pulls the girls into a tight hug and gives a loving kiss to the top of their heads before hopping into the drivers seat.

“Eddie?” Max’s voice is uncharacteristically soft, and he uses his rearview mirror to get a look at her from her spot in the backseat. There is a beat of silence before she continues. “Thank you…for being the older brother I wanted him to be.”

“Robin, why don’t you wait in the car?” Steve says, leaning against the passenger side door and peering through the open window.

She’s halfway through unbuckling her seat belt and gives him a curious look before dropping her hands slowly.

“Really? You mean it?” She asks suspiciously.

“Yeah!” He snorts out a laugh. “I know how much you hate going into places like this, you can just chill in here until we get back.”

Robin beams up at him and nods in agreement, already rifling through her bag to pull out the latest book she has been devouring.

Steve leads the way into the little party supply store downtown, and Nancy is trying to piece together what his hidden agenda is for telling Robin to stay behind. They make it to the single use dinnerware section when he corners her with a scrutinizing gaze.

“You’re next,” he says ominously before pulling out a little plastic cake topper in the shape of a rainbow.

Nancy furrows her brows in bewilderment, not catching his drift. He sighs exasperatedly when he realizes, shoving a hand into his hair.

“I cannot believe that I know something you don’t,” he chuckles before tossing the cake topper aside. “It’s a, you know. A symbol. For the…us.”

Realization dawns on her and she laughs awkwardly, caught a little off guard from the implication. She’ll be the first to admit she has been having some thoughts for a little while now; ever since Spring Break, her mind supplies traitorously. What Nancy didn’t consider was the possibility of other people catching on, let alone Steve. She supposes, though, that at one point she did think of him as the only person who understood her completely.

That changed with Jonathan, of course. But they grew apart, with distance and time, and now there is a new person who has taken that seat. Someone who sees Nancy for who she truly is, all the good and the bad, a feeling that makes her feel pleasant and terrified at the same time.

She’s been able to distract herself with trying to get Steve and Eddie together, and then her brother and Will. Nancy never imagined that the same thing would happen to her.

Steve is looking at her with a warm, knowing expression on his face, and crap. She’s just been standing here next to the red white and blue solo cups, spacing out while thinking of Robin.

“Steve,” she says warningly. “I know you think what you’re doing is for my own good, but it’s not like that, alright? We’re friends, just friends.”

He peers down at her, stubbornly crossing his arms over his chest, cocking his head in defiance.

“I’m serious! Even if…that person liked me back, which they don’t, because we’re just friends, it wouldn’t work.”

“Why not?”

Nancy huffs in frustration, averting her gaze and glancing around the aisle for a way out of the conversation to no avail. “Because, it just wouldn’t. I’m going to Emerson in the fall, and Robin is going to the Cleveland Institute of Music.”

Steve breaks out into a shit-eating grin, and good heavens she wants to wipe it clean off of his face. She hates when he gets so disgustingly smug like this.

“She seriously didn’t tell you? Oh my god, am I not allowed to tell you? I feel like I have to tell you now.” He looks like a five year old on Christmas morning, vibrating with excitement.

“What, what is it?” Nancy questions impatiently.

“Nance, she’s not going to Cleveland. She’s going to the Boston Conservatory.”

What day is it... hmmm... let me check my calendar.... Yep! Just like I thought, it's mare makes me scream at my laptop day! :D I felt several things, mostly pain, and now I must discuss how I feel about these things! And how is that you ask? Well, lucky for you I'll answer this with my usual LEQ lengthed response! I'll start with the Jack and Tubbbi scene! I thought this was great, because not only did it explain why Jack was into nfts, but it also gave some great insight to his character. As a person, I previously thought of cs!Jack as basic-run-of-the-mill dude bro with an average moral compass. But after reading this chapter, I actually sympathized with him and wanted to give the poor dude a hug! You are very good at making your characters sympathetic and I can't wait to see what else you do with non-main characters later on! Though, during this section I was also very much in pain simply due to the fact that- TUBBO YOU DONT NEED TO BE THE GROUP THERAPIST YOU ARE NOT ESPONISBLE FOR YOUR FRIENDS CONFLICTS- Dude, maybe, just maybe, it isn't healthy to only focus on others issues and tension whilst blatantly ignoring your own!! Why does he do this, AHABIBSSNKJANKnKJNSINA (I know why he does, he's literally said his reasoning in past chapters) But DUDE, I can't get over just how little Tubbo values himself as an individual, its so consistent and his insistence on being "useful" to others is done so well here! Anyway, this section was nice, but as a cs!Tubbo enjoyer it slightly enraged me /POS.

Now it's time to talk about the ever loveable clingyduo, though they should probably change their duo name to Denial duo because... good lord. You mentioned that you wrote Tommy specifically his expression of his more negative emotions as sporadic, and feel you did a great job here! The tension builds so quickly because of the ways Tommy responds to trauma or to protect himself, and then in turn ends so quickly because Tubbo cares more about defusing the situation and preventing conflict. This really made the scene feel more stressful, plus shows the use of Tubbo's argument/conversation "survival methods" even if this was with Tommy. Of course, Tommy was completely valid in the way he responded to Jack and Tubbo, but the way Tubbo almost immediately gives in after they start arguing shows to me anyway that Tubbo felt unsafe in that situation and has so little he truly wants to share. The conversation just ends with so much that he leaves unsaid because Tubbo cares about a lot of people, Jack included, and even if he doesn't want to admit it or argue against Tommy here, the ashes are still hot even though the fire was put out and Tubbo just ignores the fact that he disagrees. The way you write clingyduo is so interesting to me because despite knowing each other so well, the little details on what Tubbo refuses to say leaves me begging for more and screaming in my bedroom. In other words, this section was also nice but as a cs!Tubbo enjoyer, it slightly enraged me /POS (x2). Next on my (gay) agenda is talking about the main man himself, Tubbo! I have several things to say about him, one of the more important things being, BSFBENDWKNDLKQKDBKNDWAKNDJKX- Because MY GUY, FOR THE LOVE OF BOTH YOUR AND MY MENTAL HEALTH YOU NEED A THERAPIST! Where do I begin with him? How about the whole few paragraphs of Tubbo not understanding why Ranboo stayed by him after his confession because loving him is a burden and he doesn't deserve it?!?!?! Every Tubbo pov chapter is something I've coined as "Heartbreaking Via Intense Anger" because his sections always make me want to punch him, pay for his therapy appointments, and scream at the same time. And they're always so many different layers to this in Tubbo's chapters! He continued the denial of his adoption which only further expresses the idea that he doesn't think he deserves a family, which is then made worse by the fact that he thinks his alcoholism makes him undeserving of any support. That's just wonderful! Then all the suicidal ideation in this chapter that came in the form of him thinking he shouldn't have even been born in order for the world to better, which totally didn't make me scream into my hands whilst reading this! And of course, how could I forget to mention the whole "Tubbo shouldn't still be grieving..." excerpt, because that had me seething. At Tubbo's core, he hates himself over things he can't control, that are normal, or for simply not being perfect. The level of consistency you use in writing Tubbo's character is just amazing because I can link almost every decision or thought Tubbo's had to one of his forms of self-hatred. And although the writing was once again very nice, as a cs!Tubbo enjoyer it enraged me /POS (x3)

And now for the homophobic agenda, or should I say this chapter's beeduo? All jokes of course, but making me have to read all of this...? Hmmmmm.... Seriously though, at the start of this chapter Tubbbo was continuously the trend of unknowingly queer platonically pinning over Ranboo, and I was thrilled! That is until you decided to make their sections...mean. All the text conversations felt really sad, you nailed the accuracy of dead conversations and I could also clearly see both Ranboo's nervousness and Tubbo's disappointment through the messages. And increasing my turmoil tenfold, you decided to write that scene at the bakery near the end which was- so good, but at the expense of my happiness. As soon as I realized Ranboo wasn't going to be there, I verbally went, "Oh, no..." and sighed into my desk. The fact that Ranboo is so obviously hiding so much about himself and what he's doing from Tubbo makes this so much worse, especially since he just shared so much about himself. And even though the reader knows that this is all most definitely because of Dream, Tubbo.. doesn't. He thinks it likely could be Dream, but since this happened after he told Ranboo everything- he thinks it's because of him. More excellent characterization in regards to Tubbo being "logical" but him feeling rejected coming first, it just goes to show that he isn't the robot he thinks he is and thinks he should be in these moments. And then having the opportunity later to see Ranboo but simply not taking it, and Ranboo not texting back in the end? UAUDNIUSNILANILSNK- I LOVE DRAMATIC IRONY!!! It was all so heartbreaking and well written, but once again as both a cs!Tubbo enjoyer and a cs!Ranboo enjoyer it enraged me to great levels /POOOOSSS (x4)

im happy i can make cs!jack sympathetic; what i wanted to do with his character up until this chapter is very much paint him to be the way you described thinking of him initially, this sort of shallow person that has questionable interests and is kind of easy to poke fun at bc he's always in on the joke. i wanted this chapter to be jarring because this is also the first time that cs!tubbo is really seeing a lot of these issues in cs!jack, and there's another few scenes i have thats going to ease this so that this jump doesnt feel so jarring and explain stuff. but im really happy ppl like cs!jack he means a lot 2 me :D

tubbo and ranboo both share this issue in the fic of being mediators or trying to problem solve, but i think what ranboo does is a lot more of creating problems that arent there and putting responsibility on himself to solve them (at least ive tried to push in that direction albeit i think i could have set that characteristic up better). meanwhile tubbo seizes existent opportunities and thinks that he has to be the ultimate comforter otherwise he doesnt have worth. <//3

I'm so sad MFFMHH is over, but man did I love it!

Firstly, I love that this whole experience gave her an unexpected chance to get closer with Lin. I think that the reader having that realization that she never knew Lin felt that way connected the whole emotional arc she went through to understand how she's maybe been pushing love and family away in more than one form. And that her overall healing is not a matter of just swapping Namjoon out for Taehyung. "For the first time, you’re starting to see family as something you have to build." That line will stay with me! I thought it was so well-crafted to include this subplot as part of the story.

I definitely feel like we got the Taehyung redemption arc I was looking for! I'm so glad they had this conversation. Without putting the actual term to it, I think they were both able to realize that their relationship was a bit co-dependent, which is completely understandable given that they bonded through trauma, but wasn't healthy to sustain. I also really appreciated that while at the beginning of the story it felt a little bit like the reader was the one who clung to Taehyung, he ended up realizing how much he relied on her to cling to him right back. He was relying on her for his emotional needs, and neglecting his chance at finding love just as much! And I think it was really important for reader's closure to be able to hear him admit this. I also appreciated how realistic it was that after they made up, they didn't easily fall back into a regular pattern of friendship and things remained a bit distanced and awkward. Especially because these two really don't share a lot of common interests like Namjoon and reader, they don't have a lot to fall back on and have to rebuild their friendship from scratch. I love that we got to see a few moments of them navigating this new way of being, and that it was left a bit open-ended whether or not they will ever be able to be "best" friends again.

And finally... not Namjoon casually having a whole plan, founded on extensive research, inside of his head for their future that he just assumed they were on the same page about. If that isn't the most Namjoon behavior.

Congrats on completing another great series, Jo! I know you have some other small things in WIP, but hope you enjoy a much-deserved break for a bit. I'm sure Bangtan will give us plenty of things to scream together about in the meantime.

Japanese vs. English Shouto and Friends - A 342 Comparison

Another week, another chapter. This time we don’t get to see Dabi, but at least we get to see Shouto talking about him again. It’s only a small scene, but there has been some controversy regarding it after the fan translation came out so let’s see what the characters really said.

Starting with Shouto:

「気ィ遣わせちまってわりイ大丈夫だ」

「気ィ遣わせちまって ; kii tsukawasechimatte 」-> making someone completely pay attention to one’s needs / worry

「わりィ ; warii 」-> sorry

「大丈夫 ; daijoubu 」-> all right

「だ ; da 」-> be

= “Sorry for making you worry. I’m all right.”

I know he is probably referring to the fact that his friends worry about his family situation, but what about the fact that Shouto once said that due to his family home being a traditional Japanese-style home, he wasn’t comfortable with wooden floors. How is he supposed to rest in that room? He’ll have to face his big bro whilst being sleep-deprived…

Anyway, moving on:

「俺も兄がいるからな」

「俺 ; ore 」-> I

「も ; mo 」-> also; too

「兄 ; ani 」-> older brother

「が ; ga 」-> subject marker particle

「いる ; iru 」-> to be; to exist

In English, this sounds like an incomplete phrase, but because the remaining half can be understood from context (= because Iida also has an older brother, he can understand how Shouto must be feeling right now) it’s okay for it to be left out. It’s a small but significant phrase. Truthfully, the simple fact they both have an older brother isn’t much common ground, but it at the very least is an attempt at letting Shouto know that he is not alone. And, of course, Iida also had been in a position where he had to worry about his older brother, so he can understand what kind of emotions Shouto is currently experiencing.

What’s more important though than the degree to which these two can relate to each other is the fact that Iida is - indirectly - referring to Dabi as Shouto’s brother since by saying that he also has an older brother, it puts Dabi in that same category of “older brother” despite the fact that Dabi is a villain, while Iida’s older brother was a hero. Yet, he acknowledges that the personal relationship is more important and meaningful than the villain label Dabi currently has.

It’s important Iida is present during this conversation and is there for Shouto because Shouto was also there for him during the Stain arc when Iida was so desperate to avenge his older brother, giving Iida the opportunity to now support Shouto in return. So Shouto knows - because he was there - how Iida put everything on the line out of love for his older brother. In a way, if there is one person understanding what Shouto is going through it’s him.

First of all, I tried really hard to find a not-so-rude-sounding way to translate this, but alas. While “I can’t stand to be compared with you” sounds harsh, it’s really just him not feeling comfortable having Iida’s healthy family situation be compared to Shouto’s unhealthy family situation. It’s really more of a humble response than anything.

It’s also important to note that Shouto is calling Dabi Touya-Nii here, establishing this to be a comfortable space for him where he doesn’t feel judged for using his brother’s actual name instead of his villain name, despite the fact they’re about to go to war against him again. The same applies to him being able to bring up the fact he doesn’t even know what his brother likes, which is definitely not something he could just mention in front of the pro heroes who still refer to him as the “insane man Dabi” and would probably just start calling Shouto that too.

The panel where he says the second line is also interesting since, instead of seeing his face, the focus is on him slightly clenching his fist, further highlighting his desperation and his strong desire to finally get to know his own brother after sixteen years of not being able to.

And now finally, for the controversial line of this chapter:

「絶対うどんだな煮えたぎったやつ」

「絶対 ; zettee 」 -> definitely

「うどん ; udon 」 -> udon

「だ ; da 」-> be

「な ; na 」-> sentence ending particle; used to seek confirmation

「煮えたぎった ; nietagitta 」 -> boiled

「やつ ; yatsu 」 -> thing

= "Definitely udon, right? The boiled one"

As mentioned before, once the fan translations came out and made Bakugou say “I’ll bet [...] that self-boiling freak loves udon” - which has a completely different tone to simply assuming that Dabi would like hot udon - this line has had people worried.

So why do these two very different translations exist? The problem is that “yatsu” can either mean “person” (a rude term for person) or “thing” - however, in cases like this it’s always important to take context into consideration and in this context, “person” simply doesn’t make sense.

Anyway, as mentioned, “yatsu” can also mean “thing” and that’s exactly what it means here. It’s often used in relative clauses - as is the case here - and used when talking about one specific thing out of several other existing possibilities.

Here, it’s essentially answering the question “What kind of udon does Dabi like?” considering there are several different udon dishes available.

This specification makes sense considering Bakugou starts out by saying “Definitely udon, right?” - the “na” being used as a confirmation seeker, highlighting Bakugou’s intent on naming something that is different from soba, which is Shouto’s favorite food.

In other words, he’s suggesting that Dabi and Shouto are most likely different. Although I’d like to argue they’re both noodles (udon and soba, that is, I’m not calling Dabi and Shouto noodles), meaning they’re still related, just like Dabi and Shouto are related, just not 100% the same.

The proceeding part “nietagitta yatsu” then takes this one step further by defining the type of udon dish - a boiled one - which differentiates this dish even more from Shouto’s beloved zaru soba, a cold dish. Dividing it like this rather than saying “hot udon” from the get-go puts even more emphasis on the fact that it’s different in multiple ways. Udon - not soba. Hot - not cold.

Not only is Bakugou theorizing that Dabi and Shouto have their differences, it also shows that he remembers Shouto’s favorite food, once again proving that yes, they are friends. Shouto liking soba has been brought up repeatedly throughout the manga and is therefore established to be meaningful to him, to the point where he suggested a friendship between him and Inasa could not work because the latter preferring udon over soba was too big of a difference.

Hence it’s also worth noting that when it comes to his big brother Touya, Shouto has no problem with this “big difference” and instead shows to be more than willing to eat udon, as long as it’s with him:

「ハッ…だったら一緒に食ってやるさ」

「ハッ ; ha 」 -> ha

「だったら ; dattara 」 -> if that's the case

「一緒に ; issho ni 」 -> together

「食ってやる ; kutteyaru 」 -> to eat

「さ ; sa 」-> emphasis particle

= "Ha... if that's the case, we'll eat together."

The “teyaru” part means that the speaker is doing the verb as a favor to someone else, so Shouto would do Dabi a favor by eating udon with him, which is just another way to stress that yes, despite his love for soba, he would settle for udon if that’s what his big brother likes to eat.

Overall, despite this only being a short scene, it’s significant in how carefree the setting is. Shouto calls him Touya-Nii, Iida is ensuring Shouto that he’s not alone, Kirishima is supporting him with his mere presence, and Bakugou jokes about Dabi probably liking hot udon, making Shouto laugh in response before announcing that he’ll eat udon then.

It’s obvious even more now than it already was before that Shouto intends on saving his brother and building a relationship with him, just like he did with his mom before. He feels comfortable enough in that group to say this, which shows that he has the support of his friends and hints at the fact that this topic has probably come up before.

It's also probably gonna be Inasa's villain origin story.

• His eyes unfocus and he stares ahead of him blankly, mind racing at a million miles an hour

• Why would you do this? You knew he was too busy for a relationship, you said you understood his reasoning, why would you do this?
