A digital painting I did a little while ago, after the release of the Mario movie (that I adored). Was also the occasion to study Monet’s «Woman with an umbrella turned to the left » bc I’m a big fan of impressionism (and I struggle to come up with original compositions )

FOYER DE LA DANSE, 1872 by EDGAR DEGAS
This is one of the most unusual aspects of DEGAS’ work, and it’s here that we get to see one of the most typical and distinctive aspects of his work. Instead of recreating the light and the atmosphere of the scene in question, DEGAS has opted for a dramatic arrangement of space, reminiscent of what his peers were likely to have experienced in the new, modern city.
To do this, he has moved the figures around the canvas rather than concentrating them in one place, with a chair in the middle foreground. Rather than painting the room in a box-like shape for the characters, he paints the room from an angle, indicating multiple points of view.
The author SEBASTIAN SMEE wrote that DEGAS had the idea "that when people were listening to music, their habitual self-consciousness switched off. Their tendency to present themselves, and to respond defensively to their awareness of being watched, was no longer an impediment to truth-telling. They had lost the power to censor themselves. Something more essential, more truthful would emerge, and play across their faces. DEGAS wanted to capture that." Indeed, often in his works music is playing, or else, for example, a woman is bathing and similarly dropping her guard.

Impressionism art
I just made a impressionism art phone case for a friend in the university and I feel really really proud of how it's done... I never felt this before when I painting but... It feels good.. 🖤
