Fate or Not, Here I Come

Malyk snuck between the pillars of the palace, careful not to wake the guards. A sword posted loyally at his side with a dagger concealed in his boot. It was his mission to take out the princess, and he was ready to sacrifice anything and everything he needed to complete it.

“So, you’ve finally come for me?”

Malyk froze to the voice behind him, ever so swiftly drawing his sword and spinning on his heel to face his enemy.

“You’re rotten rule has gone on long enough! I’m here to rid the throne of you,” Malyk announced, gripping the hilt of his sword. The sun had long gone, but that didn’t stop the moonlight from reflecting in the blade, showing a mirror of his eyes glowing with hatred.

“And what will you do once I am gone? Will you mourn?” The princess held her stance, a sword of her own resting at her side.

“Yes. Until the moon returns the love of the sun I will mourn your death, for you are a goddess among beasts. Generous, kind, and yet, feared by all who lay their eyes upon you. Without you, I will surely go mad. Without you, the world will cease to function. I need you, princess. We all need you.”

“Then why must you kill me?”

“You know why. It is our destiny to part in this way with me betraying you and you dying defending your kingdom.”

The Princess sighed. “But what if we changed the prophecy? What if we did not have to die but could live as long as we wanted?”

“What are you saying?”

“I want to write my own prophecy. With you in it. Let us run to the furthest reaches of the universe. Together.”

“You know we cannot.”

“Oh, but what if we could?”

“Nonsense!” Malyk moved closer to the princess until the edge of his sword was at her throat. She didn’t raise hers. “Even if we could, this lifetime is already written for us. Our futures are set in stone. We cannot run from this. Our story is over.”

“But I do not want to leave you yet,” the princess cried.

“You do not have to. I will be here for the very end.” Malyk’s blade dug deeper, leaving droplets of blood which stained the princess’s collar.

“Promise?” The princess smiled.

Pushing his blade more forcefully now, Malyk sliced the princess’s throat. Her blood gushed out like a faulty pipe, but that didn’t scare him. Not the blood staining his tunic nor the chance of being caught ever invaded his mind as fear. And as the princess’s body slumped to the floor, Malyk rushed without hesitation to her side, wrapping his arms around her form and holding to her tightly, not bothering to wipe the tears welling in his eyes.

“I promise.”

6. What music do you listen to when writing?

About a year ago, some friends of mine put together a playlist to help me get the vibes for the book. I often listen to that when I’m looking for inspiration or don’t have a movie or something going on in the background.

Highly recommend. Some of these same friends also organised it into a “chronological” order where the vibes suit each other? It’s magical.

Death planning is extremely important, especially when it comes to the way death can be used as a platform for reinforcing transphobia and cissexism on the trans people who can resist the least. This video is a very important and compassionate explanation on how to make plans for your death as a trans person in a way that can protect you from the kind of death trans people fear (misgendering, deadnaming, wrong clothing, abusive family having control over your body which leads to those things) as well as the kinds most people fear as well (like not having your body disposed how you'd like). Caitlin Doughty does a good job explaining, in plain terms, the things you need to do to make sure your wishes as a trans person are honored after your death.

Words are so delightful isnt it wonderful that there are things to describe other things and theres one for everything tht you can use to describe it and theres several for one tjing sometimes thag you can switch up. 3. Free Friday

Because I’m cheating a little and doing this whenever I remember throughout the rest of March, I am going to use the first Free Friday to give an update?

Still currently going through the first chapter for A Masked City, and I’ve made the chaotic decision to change from third person limited to first person. I don’t know why, but I’ve jumped back and forth with both perspectives, and I think first person is what I need? I want to lean into the unreliable narrator aspect of it, especially as a mystery.

my writing has become so dry and stilted now after like the longest time of doing nothing but writing lab reports and science research papers its like whenever i have to do ANY form of writing for my internship whether thats just writing an email to the volunteers or whatever i feel like i sound so strange

#i just like. default to writing in a passive voice #or when i use a pronoun i use 'we' referring to me and my supervisor but im also definitely using it in the Lab Report We #anyway imwriting up a. fucking 15 page document as a guideline for another pantry nearby to get started up #granted theres a ton of pictures so its not like 15 pages entirely written #BUT STILL i feel like its less of a casual hey heres what we do maybe take note of that and adapt it to your own needs #and more of a like. instruction manual because of the way im WRITING i sound like im writing a formal MANUAL #but i cant NOT write like this?? #especially bc i have no idea who the people heading this new pantry are #i know their names but only over email like idk if theyre old or not #so im describing basic computer functions bc i have no idea their computer literacy #like if theyre old then i feel like yeah they need it. #but if theyre in their 20s or 30s then i feel bad for describing like. click this button to drag this element to a new position in the queu #but like i know the OLD pantry i worked at off campus was run by like. old people !!! #so im just picturing them at this new pantry and well. i know the old admins i volunteered for would definitely need a pointer like that #LMAO. #so im basically just being as precise as possible and explaining everything in depth even if it should be self explanatory #which makes this turn into. syntax resembling an instruction manual rather than a friendly outline of our procedures.
