When the heavy doors finally close behind them, there are no words. They do not speak, they do not move, eyes only fixed at each other. The music from the reception hall can still be heard distantly, its merry notes finding their way between the stone hallways of Barad Eithel and bouncing from wall to wall all the way to the king’s chambers. The king has no thought for the music, no mind for anything at all other than the elf who now stands before him. It is somewhat bizarre to see Maedhros like this, here. The years are not so long since they last saw one another, yet so much has changed, things that they held true for centuries are now uprooted from the depths of the earth, never to be the same again no matter how great the labor in replanting them and growing them anew.

Milley had chosen a severely wounded Army captain, Luis Avila, to sing “God Bless America.” Avila, who had completed five combat tours, had lost a leg in an IED attack in Afghanistan, and had suffered two heart attacks, two strokes, and brain damage as a result of his injuries. To Milley, and to four-star generals across the Army, Avila and his wife, Claudia, represented the heroism, sacrifice, and dignity of wounded soldiers.

It had rained that day, and the ground was soft; at one point Avila’s wheelchair threatened to topple over. Milley’s wife, Holly­anne, ran to help Avila, as did Vice President Mike Pence. After Avila’s performance, Trump walked over to congratulate him, but then said to Milley, within earshot of several witnesses, “Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded.” Never let Avila appear in public again, Trump told Milley. (Recently, Milley invited Avila to sing at his retirement ceremony.)

Ok so I’m gonna rant my thoughts about the show to no one but here it goes

kinda frustrated because I.love.the kid’s performance! They’re killing it! And the show has been mostly entertaining, I don’t want a word-for-word adaptation of the books… however, it feels like they’ve gotten rid of the essence of many of the plot points and character arcs

- the trio constantly trying to sacrifice themselves for the others makes it lose its meaning if it happens every ep

- Sally being so irritated doesn’t feel like her! She doesn’t have to be this perfect mother, but I think they could’ve explored how SHE must let herself be angry and frustrated and etc, not her being that way right off the bat

- Athena currently being the worst Olympian parent annoys me…. Like yes she’s cold but…. The worst???? Really? Also Frederick Chase being a good father to Annabeth but her stepmother being the only bad parent in the house? I don’t think so. I hope they don’t try to redeem that man like that

- and the most important of all: THEM KNOWING EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY MONSTER. And that happening every time???? It takes aaaaall of the mystery and anticipation!! The point of them not knowing everything was that at the end of the day they are just KIDS! Of course they can get easily distracted and confused and tricked :(

-in relation to that: i miss more silliness!!! I appreciated the deepness of the tv tunnel of love scene but I loveee the silliness of that part in the book! Walker and Leah would’ve KILLED that scene!!! Also crusty???? Rip to that iconic Percy moment (which btw lets us know more about how 'manipulative' he can be and how he's beginning to learn about the ways of the mythological world)

-bonus: tv show hades was kinda cool but idk I feel like they just copied hades from the animated Hercules movie?

Idk, so far the show has felt rushed when it should be slow-paced and viceversa :(
