After the fall of lotus pier JFM wakes up back in his younger body. He is the young heir of YMJ again. WCZ and CSSR already left, he lacks influence and his family starts suggesting marriage. But this time around he knows exactly what is to come and sets out to overcome the incoming struggle. He seeks out other cultivators and heirs to gain more influence for the future. To get ahead of Yu Clan persuasion he arranges to find another marriage match behind his family's back. And he succeeds. 1/6

Soon he becomes leader of the most thriving sect. He gains fame for aiding others before things get out of hand. He has more allies and connections than before, his relationship with Madam Jiang is full of mutual respect and Lotus Pier grows stronger under her care. His children are happy, well adjusted, don't doubt their parents' love, respect YMJ teachings and his advice. 2/6

He can't change everything. Despite the warnings, his friends perish again. This time their son finds a place in his family as a child of his sworn brother. There is no one doubting his faithfulness, his wife supports honoring his friend's memory with her whole heart. After this he puts even more work into his plans. He knows what will happen and when time comes he is going to be ready. The time comes too soon. 3/6

YZY would never settle lower than one of the great five sects. She marries into the Wen ruling family. Hearing about JFM's successful marriage brings out the worst in her. She spits hate about these that should be taken to heel, showed their place and taught a lesson about bowing to their betters. She questions how such a clan can put itself before those of better heritage. She fuels the gossip about Jiang striving to take Wen's rightful place in the cultivation world. 4/6

Strong and growing YMJ is a sore spot in the eye of WRH so he encourages her bloodthirst. YZY puts fear in whoever she can, threatens and leverages her clan connections whenever she can. All to spite JFM. She promises Jin’s submission to WRH for giving her free rein of his forces. She ensures through her closest friend Madam Jin, that Jins and smaller sects under them will not go against her plans. Then she brings the Wen army to the YMJ long before JFM expected.5/6

JFM stands again on the same battlefield, with the same woman, just like in the previous life. Only this time around with swords pointed at each other. 6/6

yknow how Jin Ling is supposed to look just like Jiang Cheng, like to the point of being brothers? And Jiang Cheng is supposed to look just like his mother?

Jin Ling hearing from Wei Wuxian about Jiang Cheng's old wispy hair and deciding he wants to know what the fuss is about and (after much deliberation between the juniors) finally gets it just right. Jiang Cheng gives him a raised eyebrow when he gets onto the training field with him, but ignores it because teens are just weird and tells him to pull out his sword.

Then Wei Wuxian comes trotting up the pier in time to see Jiang Cheng in the pale blue his mother always favored and beside him is Jin Ling with his one whisp.

And for a moment it's not Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling.

For a moment it's Madam Yu standing protectively behind her son, a sword in one hand and the whip in the other. Fifteen year old Jiang Cheng is frowning, but when he hears Wei Wuxian's shout he lights up with a smile and turns to his mother. Madam Yu doens't look happy and her eyes narrow on Wei Wuxian even as she gives a stiff nod. If Wei Wuxian turned around then Yanli should be-

"Wei Wuxian, are you just going to stand there all day! Oi, you, stop that noise." Jiang Cheng's voice rings out and the image is gone. There's no grinning Jiang Cheng and instead Jin Ling's head is rolling back as he makes the loudest sigh in the world. Madam Yu isn't standing behind them like she's waiting to fight the world, instead Jiang Cheng's tugging on Jin Ling's pony tail and watching him flail with an angry shout.

"You taught him to be like this, before you came back he had manners." Jiang Cheng snaps and Wei Wuxian's still blinking at the afterimage of his first life. "Well? Get your ass up here and help me fix that. God, it's like you're only in my house for food, earn your keep."

“Who says I’m not?” Wei Wuxian grins and springs up, arm already up to sling around Jiang Cheng’s shoulders.

Childhood affliction makes it so he will never be a strong cultivator, but gender expectations being what they are, he is pushed to be the sect heir, eventual sect leader, even though sometimes the training and the pressure is enough to physically hurt

-the youngest, Jiang Cheng, Jiang-guniang, the daughter who takes after her mother in both looks and temperament, the daughter with strong cultivation that desperately worries about her older, delicate brother, the daughter who doesn’t understand why her parents would rather push her gege beyond his limits time and time again rather than naming her the heir, spends almost all her life worrying that this position and these expectations will end her brother’s life prematurely, the daughter who grows up thinking her father doesn’t value her, maybe resents her for being too much like her mother, thinks he would rather work his only son into an early grave than even consider leaving Yunmeng to his unwanted daughter

-a life where Madame Jin and Madame Yu still insist on a marriage between their children: Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng. A life where Jin Zixuan doesn’t disparage his future wife but still bad mouths her beloved older brother as being ‘weak’ (due to a lot of internalized homophobia because yes! Jin Zixuan is still stupid for Jiang Yanli in whatever form she takes)

-a life where WWX gets into a fight with JZX at Cloud Recesses because WWX is tired of JZX talking smack about his shige and JZX is tired of rumours that his betrothed is in love with WWX (she’s not-they’re not, but they spend more time together than with their ge because Jiang Yan’s health often excluded him from participating in their childhood mischief)

-a life where JC marries JZX right after the Cloud Recesses mark because when JFM asked her if she wanted to end the betrothal to JZX she didn’t see anyway for that to happen without Madam Yu exploding on both JC and WWX and also giving validation to the rumours about her relationship with her shixiong since JZX doesn’t give any indication he doesn’t want to marry her. A life where JC is a young wife left behind in Koi Tower while her husband is sent to the Indoctrination. A life when Mianmian sends a Jin butterfly message to JC about the Xuanwu incident that has JC leaving Koi Tower without JGS’s permission and with Madam Jin’s secret approval, meeting up with her husband three days after he had fled the cave. She has her Meishan Yu maids and a handful of Jin disciples that were Madam Jin approved. He has her dreadfully ill brother on his back and has been taking care of him since they fled the cave. Jiang Yan is sent onto Lotus Pier to recuperate with one Yu maid, Mianmian, and a few other disciples, JC goes back with her husband to bust WWX and LWJ from the cave

-a life where this brings JC and JZX closer, where they send WWX onto LP and have to return to Koi Tower. A life when both being worried over her brother leads to JC and JZX finally falling into bed together, a life where JC is not in LP when it falls and lives for MONTHS in the dark about her brothers and whether they survived, a life where Jiang Yan returns first, but his cultivation is out of sorts. One second strong, the other seemingly out of his control. He settles in at Qinghe, unable to fight in the war because of the fear he will fall into Qi deviation. JC fed up with being kept away, worried sick about her brother, frustrated at the golden cage of Lanling, disgusted by her FIL’s waffling and her husband leaving her behind for ‘her safety’, steals away in the night to go stand in as the leader of the YMJ forces (again with Madam Jins silent backing)

-all the same things; finding WWX, torturing the Wens who took LP, the entire Sunshot Campaign, littered with tensions between JC, JY, and WWX, but also between JC and JZX because her husband wants her to go back to Lanling like a proper wife. JY giving his sister Zidian as she leads his troops, the other sect leaders making noises about YMJs sickly zongzhu, abrasive first disciple, and rebel daughter

-the war ending and JC back in Koi Tower, tension with JZX and rising disgust with JGS, hearing second hand stories of her brothers back in LP, JY still being ill and his cultivation disordered, WWX drinking away his responsibilities, JC asking to go back to LP to help out her family, being allowed because JZX is supportive and goes with her, JC helping with rebuilding, getting angrier and angrier with WWX not helping when their gege obviously needs him, many fights amidst background JZX and JY repairing an old friendship and getting closer

-WWX leaving LP for the Wens, JC enraged that he abandoned their brother and insulted her in laws in one blow, spending more time at LP with JY and JZX. At some point she goes to the Burial Mounds to seek out WQ for a medical opinion, fights loudly with WWX, leaves in tears and more misunderstandings, WQ gives a prescription of dual cultivation (I’ll come up with an excuse/reason), JC knowing that she gets in with her husband now, but he’s in love with her brother and vice versa-THEY FUCK AND SHE IS COOL WITH IT BECAUSE IT IS SEXUAL HEALING- it actually working and JYs cultivation settling find, strengthening enough for him to wield his sword and Zidian for the first time

-JC and JZX called home, JZX and JY have a lovers goodbye/quasi breakup, after being gone for a while, JC and JZX start banging again. She gets pregnant right around the time JY announces his engagement to Ouyang zongzhu’s eldest daughter. JY is thriving, but wants desperately for his siblings to reconcile (WWX had been forced to publicly announce his defection from YMJ because JY was having none of it and that had driven another wedge between JC and WWX), after JL is born, JC agrees to invite WWX to his one month celebration

-and then it all goes to shit
