A brief analysis of Wilbur’s “apology”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First part He downplays the severity of his actions by using terms like "slobbish, disrespectful, and selfish" instead of acknowledging the ABUSIVE nature of his behavior. Using terms like those to describe his behavior serves as a form of cognitive distortion known as minimization. By choosing these mild descriptors, the abuser psychologically diminishes the gravity of his actions, making them seem less serious or harmful than they actually are.
By stating that he "regrettably became slobbish, disrespectful, and selfish," he subtly portrays himself as a VICTIM of his own behavior, shifting the focus away from the harm he caused to Shelby. By framing his actions as something that happened to him ("regrettably became"), rather than choices he actively made, he seeks to evoke sympathy and deflect responsibility. This tactic serves to shift the focus away from Shelby's pain and trauma, redirecting attention to his “supposed” remorse and internal “struggles.”
By attributing his behavior to vague reasons like the relationship's "final months," the abuser engages in a form of cognitive distortion known as /externalization of responsibility/. Rather than taking full ownership of his actions and acknowledging his role in perpetuating abuse throughout the entire relationship, he deflects blame onto external circumstances. This tactic serves to minimize his accountability and avoid confronting the uncomfortable truth of his own choices and behaviors.
While he pretends he is sorry for his actions, he does not directly apologize to the victim. Instead, he apologizes for the IMPACT of his behavior, framing it as regret for causing pain rather than RECOGNIZING the harm they inflicted. This framing allows him to maintain a facade of remorse while minimizing the severity of his behavior. Additionally, by focusing on the consequences of his actions rather than the actions themselves, the abuser deflects attention away from the intentional harm he caused.
He attempts to evoke sympathy by claiming to have sought therapy and made lifestyle changes to rectify his past actions. This tactic is designed to evoke sympathy from others, as it suggests that the abuser is taking proactive steps to change and deserves forgiveness or leniency as a result. Fucking pathetic.
Despite acknowledging that “the ex-girlfriend's” feelings are valid, he fails to address her by name, which can be perceived as dehumanizing and dismissive of her individuality and experiences. By depersonalizing the victim and referring to her simply as his "ex-girlfriend," he diminishes her individuality and agency, effectively erasing her identity and reducing her to a mere object or category and victim.
The abuser subtly undermines the victim’s perception of reality by implying that her perspective is equally valid, despite the clear imbalance of power dynamics and harm caused during the relationship.
He focused on his own growth and improvement, rather than acknowledging the depth of pain and trauma experienced by the victim.
Phrases like "with the hope to gain a deeper understanding for the situation" are vague and ambiguous, designed to manipulate the reader into sympathizing with the abuser's purported efforts at self-reflection and growth without providing concrete evidence of genuine change.
Second part
The abuser downplays the seriousness of the allegations by framing it as consensual and playful behavior. This minimization tactic serves to invalidate the victim's experiences and perceptions of the abuse, while also shifting the focus away from his own culpability. By portraying the abuse as consensual and playful, the abuser aims to obscure the power dynamics at play and maintain control over the narrative.
By emphasizing the consensual and enjoyable nature of their interactions, Wilbur subtly gaslights the victim, causing them to doubt her own memories and interpretations of the events.
The abuser’s selective disclosure of mentioning numerous conversations and text exchanges without providing evidence or context serves as a manipulative tactic to control the narrative and manipulate perceptions. By selectively mentioning these interactions without offering transparency or accountability, he maintains control over the information available to others, allowing him to shape the narrative in his favor. This tactic creates an illusion of credibility and legitimacy without actually providing concrete evidence to support his claims. Additionally, by withholding specific details or context, Wilbur effectively prevents others from fully understanding the nature of these interactions and evaluating their relevance to the situation at hand.
While the abuser offers “apologies” for any pain caused, he does so in a vague and non-specific manner, without acknowledging the specific harm or trauma experienced by the victim. This false apology serves to deflect responsibility and avoid genuine accountability for his actions.
Throughout the apology, Wilbur maintains control over the narrative by emphasizing his perspective and intentions.
He also subtly shifts blame onto the victim by implying that their hurt feelings are solely based on a misinterpretation of their interactions. By suggesting that the victim's perception differs from his own, he indirectly suggests that the victim is overreacting or misunderstanding the situation, further invalidating their experiences and emotions.
Throughout the apology, he avoids taking full responsibility for his actions by emphasizing his perspective and intentions. He fails to acknowledge the harm caused by his behavior and instead focuses on how he perceives the interactions, effectively evading accountability for his actions.
Wilbur uses language aimed at eliciting sympathy and understanding from the reader, such as expressing his shock and offering vague apologies. This emotional manipulation tactic seeks to sway public opinion in his favor and mitigate the potential consequences of his actions without genuine remorse or accountability !! Please look out for this in the future.

Tumblr media
this was a post in the anti catradora and anti catra tag. i'm not gonna address the crosstagging and i'm not gonna mention the op's url, i just wanna address the post specifically.
is catra morally grey? i don't think so. having a tragic backstory does not make you morally grey. in that case, belos from toh would be “morally grey” since he clearly was a victim of religious trauma and had a complicated relationship with his brother. firelord ozai from atla would be “morally grey” because his father most likely treated him the same way he treated zuko and azula. azula would be a “morally grey” character because she was abused.
but that's not what being morally grey is. it's not about being mistreated or having gone through trauma. grey morality is about actions, not motives.
Urban Dictionary's definition of the term is,
“Morally gray is a character who does too much bad to be a good character, yet too much good to be a bad character. A character who is in between good and bad.”
does catra really do too much good to be a villain? i don't think so. she has a few sympathetic moments but apart from that, she's mostly on the side of evil. she revels in hurting people and shows no remorse, she puts herself first in almost every situation, she supports the horde despite knowing what it was doing, she sees every situation as an opportunity to get what she wants, she even makes plans for the horde's attacks. she never shows regret in having participated in the war and only does one (1) good deed after she is backed into a corner and has no escape from horde prime.
y'all need to stop throwing around buzzwords without knowing what they mean. catra could better be described as a complex or sympathetic villain. but she was a villain nevertheless.
entrapta was morally grey, double trouble was morally grey, even scorpia could be considered morally grey. "fucked up and gay" certainly suits catra better, and she does not stop being fucked up at any point lol.

Love Duet
A/N: Listened to Piano Duet from Corpse Bride and cried from the emotional trauma
Yan! Riddle Rosehearts + Heartslabyul x Reader
Halloween AU
“Tell me darling, can a heart be broken even when it stops beating?”
CW/TW: Allusion to murder? yeah
Tumblr media
For the longest time, Riddle thought he could never give his heart to another.
Not that he could in literal terms. His heart had long been cut out and his body left to rot in the sheer cold. His groomsmen also suffered the same fate even though they weren’t even the one to stand at the altar. For that, the emotion that he had felt at death was not anger or even guilt, but rather tired remorse.
His groomsmen, his dearest friends, had done all they could to console him as each agonizing decade passed. “One day, your true love will come to set you free.” Trey, his closest confidant had said at one time, clasping a reassuring arm around his shoulders. Riddle didn’t have the heart (no pun intended) to tell him that he no longer believed in love. If the one his mother chose couldn’t bear to love him, then how could he ever be sure that someone else would be willing to?
So when he and his men are resurrected, he’s face to face not with a skilled necromancer, but rather a terrified little mortal. You’re like a puny  mouse, scurrying backwards and falling comically in a pile of snow as the five of them merely stare at you dumbly.
‘This must be a mistake’ is the first thing Riddle thought.
It was…not apparently. But it might as well have been. He almost bursts a blood vessel when you sheepishly say, “I wasn’t expecting anything out of a stupid Halloween summoning ritual…” in response to his stern inquiry. Trey has to hold him back from blowing up at you, while Ace and Cater are bellowing hearty laughs, never having been entertained by such an innocent statement before.
He wants to immediately go back to the land of dead after such a stupid encounter, but it’s you who reaches out for his skeletal hand and pulls him back.
“I’m really sorry for wasting your time! Please, is there anything I can do for you gentlemen to repay for it?”
At the time, he was only irritated and impatient. He wanted to get you off his tail and to never see you again. So he only sneers that haughty smirk of his and replies with the unthinkable.
“Very well. Find a way to let us all pass on.”
Ace and Deuce flinch, Cater opens his mouth with shocked eyes, and Trey also moves to object, but they all fall silent at his raised hand. They all knew that his demand was impossible: the four of them would not pass on without seeing Riddle’s wish fulfilled, and Riddle’s wish…
But you aren’t deterred at all, determination shining in your eyes and smiling big.
“Alright!”
He had regretted his challenge then. He was forced to watch you start to clumsily make attempts on getting to know them all better. There’s something that twists in his chest as he sees you get along with Ace and Deuce, the three of you usually off to prank some poor soul. It slithers around in his guts as he watches as you show Cater how you take photos on your shiny sleek ‘smartphone’ and how Trey teaches you how to make macarons; clenching around his throat and mouth.
He’s repeatedly turned away each time you ask to spend time together and even conversations he cuts short. At first it was stubbornness but…when Trey questions him after he turned down another invitation from you, he can only clench his fists and stay silent.
Truthfully, there wasn’t any good reason. It was petty, at the most. Maybe it’s because you remind him when he was alive, when he was earnest to do his best no matter what.
It’s finally when he catches you humming a tune that sounds hauntingly familiar that he breaks his silence.
“That song…” You turn with wide eyes at him acknowledging you.
"You know this song?" He asks, and you slowly nod.
"Yeah, my mom used to sing it to me all the time." You answer meekly, as if caught doing something naughty. Something tugs him to open his mouth again.
"Your mother?"
"Uh, yeah! She said that it was passed down to her by grandma, and to grandma by her mama–"
How could he not realize it? Like a spell breaking, it’s like his eyes have been opened to the truth. Your face, though long losing the exact likeness, still contained traces of her. Your cheeks, the curve of your lips, your eyes–it was like he was back to that fateful day at the altar.
“Do you, d̶̨̛͓̤̮͈͓̜͔̜̘̙͚̝̀̿̉̓̿͗͆͘͘̕e̴̢̠͕̹̜̼̬͇̰̒̂̑̽̏̈͜͜ͅā̸̠̝͊̚r̵̢̙̹̯̟͓̹̫̮̘͍̼̾͛̈́̾͆̏̈́̌͌͘͠ļ̵̧̭̻̲̰̳̞̥̮͎͚̃́̿́̊̀͂͝ẏ̵̧̗͓̞͎̲̦̭̄̃͊̍̑̑͛͂̋ ̷̪͕̠̰͇̬̜̾͘b̴̲̫̯͈̠͓͙̤̮̓̈́̌̂̈̈̄̈̓͂͊͘͝͝ͅě̵̡̤̗̔̑̂͊͝l̷̢̢̜͓̖͎͍̗̣̲͎̹̖͗̈͐͊͋́̎͐͗́̇͋͜o̶̙̝͎͍͇̝͑̿̀̽͑v̷̬̥̈́͛́̋̊͗̈̑̚e̶͎̗̝̫̗̤͍̘̓̆͒̓ͅd̷̳̜̤͔͎̫̤̞̈́̒̎̇̉̎͗̃̋̈̚͝ͅ, take Riddle Roseheart to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until parted by death?” The priest intones. The morning light shines behind him, giving an almost saintlike glow to the man as he presides over the two. His bride is silent, and he frowns as an awkward silence stretches.
“No.”
A gasp of outrage and confusion reverberates in the chapel, including his own groomsmen, who worriedly looks at him during the exclamation.
“Riddle?” He snaps back to the present as a hand waves in front of his face. “Are…you okay?”
You’re not her. He supposes it is ironic: fate has brought him back to face his past again, but not in matrimony or love, but in a bet. No matter how much he wishes for it, you were not her.
“I’m okay.” He replies in a voice so distant he doesn’t realize it comes from him. He reaches a hand out to touch your cheek and as your confused eyes meet his own calm ones, he can only think of how his heart is at ease.
“I’m okay.”
He sighs with a genuine smile spreading across his face.
You’re not sure if it’s good that Riddle is like this.
You were sure something possessed Riddle to act so sweetly to you, when only a couple weeks ago he refused to be left alone in a room with you. You would like to be happy that he’s finally warming up to you, but the change is so abrupt that you find it hard to be fully convinced that he truly likes you. It’s like he’s a different person, pulling out chairs for you, brewing you tea whenever you want something hot, and even helping you with your chores. As he stays close by your side, you’re starting to feel a bit nervous.
And you’re not sure how to tell him that you’re nowhere near close to figuring out how to lay them to proper rest.
It’s like they are all synchronized: Ace likes to lie outright and just brush you off, Trey and Cater both avert their eyes and try to distract you with a different topic, and Deuce is all but skillful with his fumbling words. But they still remain tightlipped about what they wish before they pass on to the afterlife. Maybe Riddle would know?
He doesn’t look surprised at your recountings, but nor does he look smug as you expected him to be either. He only continues to sip the breakfast tea you brewed with a calm expression before setting it down with a quiet clack.
“It’s because their wish is tied with mine.” You blink, processing the information.
“And my wish…” He trails off, eyes staring into his cup. “Do you truly want to hear it?”
There’s something in his voice that sets your nerves on edge, but you can’t abandon your goal when you’re this close. It would be cruel to deprive the mens’ souls from finding true peace at this point.
You swallow. “What is it?”
“True love.” His eyes move up to stare into your wide ones. “I wish to be with the one I truly love.”
There’s a heavy silence that hangs in the air after the statement. His eyes continue to bore into yours and your heart starts beating faster. He can’t possibly mean…
“Have…have you found someone you truly love?” You ask, throat dry and tightening.
His lips curl up into a smirk. “Yes. Yes, I have.”
“Who is...?”
His smirk widens. “I think you may already know.”
You get up abruptly, pushing back your chair and sending silverware clattering. Riddle’s face immediately scrunches in disapproval, but you have more to worry about than a nagging lecture.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help you pass on anymore.” The words are out of your mouth before you can rethink them. Riddle’s face becomes stone cold, silver grey eyes narrowing into needles. His head tilts back haughtily, still looking down on you even as he’s seated.
“It seems you’re mistaken. You don’t have a choice now. You promised, remember?”
Trey, though he looked guilty, had no arguments when Riddle ordered him to carry your slumbering body as they traveled back to the land of the dead. The rest of his groomsmen surprisingly don't bat an eye. Cater just grins and says he can't wait to show you around the land of the dead. The younger duo also chimes in that they wanna teach you more scare tactics and hang out more. Riddle also doesn't miss the way Trey tenderly tucks a piece of hair behind your ear when it seems no one is looking.
But he’s glad, because it means he only needs to worry about when you wake up from your forced slumber. You may not like the new change, being removed from your home so rudely, but you made a promise, and he won’t let you walk away from it.
Perhaps he won't be able to pass on, as he regards your sleeping face, but at least he can spend the rest of eternity with you and his men.

Tuning in on the family stuff with Miguel. Are we even sure that he used to have a family in his own dimension? Because the way he talked about his past made it sound like he might’ve not even had that. So either he might’ve had a family before and experienced twice the loss. Or did he just have a very shitty life, which made it easier for him to go somewhere where he has someone to personally love & care for. Also, when he left his dimension, wouldn’t that mean things went down the pits there?
Maybe !! Again, there’s tons of possibilities since the backstory is so vague so far, and you’re hitting all the right possible marks
I personally subscribe to him having a family before (or at least having Gabriella before), since it makes more sense for his choice to jump worlds that way since that want is so so so much more potent if he had experienced that positive experience before.
Under the cut, mentions of domestic abuse, neglect, suicidality, getting drugged
His life really is. Shitty. In the comics. He lacked a lot of stability growing up, his step-father being verbally and physically abusive while his mother was traumatized as a result (but coped with it unhealthily by later on neglecting Miguel, and projecting her hatred for his real father (Tyler Stone, Alchemax CEO) onto him growing up. His brother became completely jealous of him and tried to kill him, his love life is tumultuous and he has had outbursts that cost him that which he regrets deeply, and a lot of his own bodily autonomy was taken away from him at work since his spider-man origins revolve around Tyler drugging him with an extremely addictive substance (Rapture) that he could only get out through a gene splicer machine (and his co worker tried to kill him using spider DNA in that process). He is frequently shown as being suicidal and had a pretty in depth fantasy with that… it’s really hard to read and shocking tbh
So it makes total sense why he would jump at the opportunity to find somewhere where everything is better— even more so, if Gabriella was basically his only ray of sunshine in his own world, lost her, and would do anything to get back to her.
Maybe in his dimension, everything turned out for the worse too. His family dead (yeah his mom gets a redemption but gets killed off in a poorly done way— ,maybe Gabriel died too, or they ended on such bad terms they just never see each other again), partner dead, and the one person he had consistent positive connection to (his daughter) is dead or gone… he’ll, maybe his reputation as Spider-Man has take a turn for the worst and he can’t take being public enemy number one anymore. It would be hard to resist the temptation to go elsewhere, and part of it being to give himself a second chance and redeem himself since he fucked up a lot of his relationships himself. He’s remorseful, and heavily driven by guilt, and painfully aware of his shortcomings and his toxic traits that he has internalized over the years.
So yeah personally I can see your takes as being an ‘all the above’ type thing in my interpretation based on the comics :))
I guess my personal summation of it is,, no family (anymore— dead or cut off), but had one and wanted to hold onto that with Gabriella, his choice was absolutely influenced by his personal trauma and upbringing and guilt complex, and maybe he left his dimension since he felt he had nothing left to lose. Maybe during the period he left his own dimension, things stayed relatively/negatively the same? Since it’s a universe run by Alchemax (in the comics) and maybe he started feeling helpless since there’s not enough that could be done to stop it, and he lost so much motivation over time despite wishing he could do more to change it?

TADC x Danganronpa Concept
I'm not really gonna work on this more then this one post, plus this is just to stretch out my creative abilities, but I had this random thought of "What if The Amazing Digital Circus cast were in a killing game?" and I wanted to work on it
This will contain their talent, small lil backstory, motive to kill, and execution. I think in the context for this they're given nicknames due to having forgotten their names. Also in the context of their ages, it's a college instead of a highschool (Also Kinger would've probably been professors there) (Warning: There will be very graphic descriptions within the executions involving torture and a lot of blood! Please proceed with caution!)
(Pomni) -> Pomni would be the Ultimate Jester. Very obvious from her outfit as well as the role of Jesters being actually apart of the royal family. I think how she would get her talent is by being a friend to a prince, and her natural clumsiness made her an excellent jester- to the point where she was brought all around the world by the king. But she hated it, just wanting a normal life and thinking if she went to the Ultimate University would help her with such a task
-> I think her motive for killing wouldn't be anything. If she killed, it would've 100% been an accident and she'd be in denial that she did it even while getting dragged to her execution. She'd most likely be either chapter 4 or 5 in terms of when she dies
-> The Fool's Show (Ultimate Jester's Execution: Executed) Pomni's hands are chained behind her back as she's dragged into a remaking of a king's throne room. Monokuma is the king on the throne and tells Pomni to entertain him. She tries her best, however with her hands tied up, she keeps falling over. Monokuma doesn't find it funny and soom makes the floor electrocute her whenever she messed up. She sees an exit door and starts to run for it, but the electricity makes her stagger. Her legs, covered in blood and burn marks, soon give out on her as she falls to the ground. The electricity soon hits her head, making her cough up blood before dying. Monokuma laughs at Pomni's burnt corpse
(Ragatha) -> Ragatha would be the Ultimate Seamstress. I think she more so makes dolls as a hobby, but her main passion would be making dresses. She got her talent after she most likely became famous for her dress work and how creative said work is. Her past probably involves a hobby becoming a job due to parental based traumas, but at least she can enjoy what she does. She went to the Ultimate University a little later than most other Ultimates because she was just so busy with her work
-> She would only kill in self-defense or if she learned someone was going to harm someone she really cared for. Most likely a very remorseful death, probably clean and quick, but she didn't want to get out knowing their blood was on her hands
-> Pins and Needles (Ultimate Seamstress's Execution: Executed) Ragatha is laying on a table, her arms and legs stretched out on it. She looks up at the ceiling, a look of regret on her face. Monokuma comes in, dressed as an old lady, holding a bag. Monokuma begins to push various sized needles into her skin. The first ones were put in her joints, making her paralyzed. All she could do now was shiver and cry in pain as Monokuma continued to stick needles in her. Once most of her body was pinned down, Monokuma pulls out a syringe and, offscreen and silhouetted, stabs it into her blue eye. She screams as the injection quickly hits her brain, causing her to soon stop moving, killing her
(Jax) -> One of the harder ones to pinpoint, I think Jax would be the Ultimate Luck. He's the one who won the randomly selected luck role, which unlike most others- wasn't a good choice for him. He was a criminal who's caused multiple problems. He relishes that he's an Ultimate despite his criminal record. He didn't have the best childhood, but he doesn't care what happened in his past. He just cares about causing as much chaos as possible. Probably owns a rabbit farm though. It's like the ONLY thing he cares about that isn't himself
-> He'd most likely kill if there was a good enough motive for it. Like maybe he can get away with whatever he wanted if he won the trial or something along those lines. 100% would kill for a selfish reason like that (Probably uses his rabbit farm for sympathy)
-> Run Rabbit, Run! (Ultimate Luck's Execution: Executed) Jax is in the middle of a clearly fake forest, a bit confused about his location. Suddenly, he hears a gunshot in the distance. Monokuma, dressed as a hunter, starts to shoot at Jax. He starts to run, using his lankiness to avoid most of the bullets, even if he did get hurt a few times. The blood from the wounds attracts SOMETHING to chase him, making him run more. He soon runs into a wall harshly and falls over, seeing that the thing chasing him was a mutant rabbit, the same color as his outfit. Jax tries to run past it, but it tackles him to the ground, crushing him a bit before it proceeds to maul him to death. It then shows a picture of Jax taped to a tree that says 'Jax Season' on it, to which Monokuma rips the picture off of said tree
(Gangle) -> Gangle would most likely be the Ultimate Stagehand. She's loved Broadway (and anime) and she's always wanted to be an actress, however her cripping social anxiety stopped her from pursuing that. But that didn't mean she couldn't work in Broadway. She learned about the behind the scenes, and quickly got up the latter for working lights, curtains, scene changes, and all of that stuff. She was happy to be working so hard that she ended up as the Ultimate Stagehand but complete coincidence
-> Similar to Pomni, I think she'd only kill on accident. That or maybe she reached her limit with someone and murdered them out of anger before realizing what she'd done
-> Scene Change (Ultimate Stagehand's Execution: Executed) Gangle is behind the stage that Monokuma is standing on. She has a bomb strapped to her chest and a needled collar on. As the show begins, the timer on the bomb starts to go down. Monokuma reenacts various infamous moments from musicals, and Gangle has to change the scenes as he goes on. As the scene changes get faster and faster, Gangle messes up more and more, the collar pushes the needles into her neck more and more, causing her to be in constant pain. Soon enough she messes up one too many times and the needles stick DEEP into her neck, making her get on her knees. She didn't even notice the bomb timer was close to being finished as she was on stage in front of everyone, the bomb going off and taking Gangle with it in an explosion of blood. The unfaced crowd cheers
(Kinger) -> Although he's a professor at the Ultimate University, he's actually known as the Ultimate Entomologist- but he's gone too far into the deep end due to being trapped in a cave for years, making him lose his mind... he thinks he's the Ultimate King despite him not being ACTUAL king. He knows too much about bugs and then he got a profession in said bug obsession before he got stuck
-> Him killing seems impossible, but maybe he'd kill without realizing it? Not like accidental- but more so he like dissociates during the murder and then he's like "Oh... I did?" and it's lowkey kinda sad
-> Metamorphosis! (Ultimate Entomologist's Execution: Executed) Kinger is within a room full of insect collections on the walls. He looks around confused before Monokuma appears in a butterfly costume, holding an unknown material. Kinger screams as he tries to get away, but Monokuma's costume wings made him faster, spinning around Kinger as he got wrapped up like a cocoon. Kinger struggles as he's dragged to one of the walls, other Monokuma's holding Kinger against it. Using an oversized nail and hammers, he sticks nails into Kinger to keep him pinned up on the wall, Kinger bleeding out as this happened. The Monokumas grab onto the stuff he was wrapped in and ripped it off, making the nails come out of him. Kinger slumps to the floor and slowly bleeds out- the blood on the wall looking similar to butterfly wings
(Zooble) -> I think Zooble would be the Ultimate ???- not wanting to share it because "I don't care if you don't know it". In reality I have no fucking idea what Zooble's talent would even be. Nor would I know their past. All I know is that... Zooble is Zooble. And that's all that matters
-> They'd most likely kill out of desperation. Maybe a really good motive. Otherwise, I see them more as a victim or even a survivor like Maki
-> Mix and Match (Ultimate ???'s Execution: Executed) Zooble is placed inside of an operation table. They are strapped to the table as multiple Monokuma doctors appearing around them. The Monokumas pull out various toy limbs and tools. One of the Monokumas, with a saw, digs it into one of Zooble's arms, making them yell and wiggle around, trying to get out. Once their arm was fully off, they force a noodle esc toy arm to get jammed into the wound, which only caused more pain and agony. This continued frantically, blood pooling under the table quickly. After a few moments, the doctors walk away from Zooble's body, showing their new state. Their new limbs are blood soaked as their dead eyes stare at the ceiling
Man that's a lot of writing- but I hope you enjoy it

Zukaang Moments in Episode 2: The Southern Air Temple
(There's only four, but that's a lot for an episode where they don't interact)
To Start: So, I feel like a significant handful of the things I have pointed out and will point out aren't necessarily Zukaang because Zuko's actions are based on the Avatar, not Aang, but if the zutarians get to claim Zuko's sacrifice as a zutara scene even tho Zuko would've done it for any of his friends, I get to claim these as Zukaang scenes even if Zuko would've done the same for any avatar. I am fully admitting to shipping goggles here and I have no remorse or regret.
Okay? Okay.
-<>-
"Don't mention his name on these docks... and I don't want anyone getting in the way." Zuko wanting to keep Aang to himself.
“He's mine now.” Zhao says and Zuko lurches at him. I'm just saying, the writers put in a weird amount of Zuko fighting for the right to call Aang his. The other occurrence that comes to mind is “Back off Azula, he's mine.”
So, we're all aware of the whole 'Zuko getting burned in an Agni Kai with his father’ thing. He's even reminded of it when he challenges Zhao.
I just think it's interesting how it is finding Aang that gives Zuko the drive and passion to challenge Zhao to another one, because there's no way Zhao hasn't taunted him before. They're familiar with each other, Zhao immediately seeks him out apon landing, Zhao is a bully.
So what's different about this time that makes Zuko want to fight?
The risk of losing Aang to someone else.
I just think it's interesting.
Aang's journey in this episode parallels and kinda foreshadows Zuko's journey when you consider they're pretty much always going through the same thing. Aang has an idealized idea of home and is excited when he gets the chance to go even if he's been presented with plenty of reasons why going home is not actually going to be great. (Which Zuko also does)
He gets there, spends some time revisiting his memories of childhood and the longer he's there, the more it's obvious he's misplaced and this is no longer the place for him. (Which Zuko also does)
Then they both have to confront their father figures and come to terms with the trauma connected to them. Aang with the fact that Gyasto is dead and Zuko with the fact that his father is an abusive shit that will never love him.
They both show a power and strength in this confrontation, but Aang's is from a place of pain and shows a lack of control and Zuko's is from a place of freedom and shows immense control. They traded.
-<>-
There were other things the episode made me think about, like Aang and Zuko's collective anger issues here, or the paradoxical parallel/yin yang of them and their father figures, but those don't really have to do with this episode and I figured I'd have more fun writing those subjects in their own posts where I can delve as deep as I want and maybe mention them in episodes where it's more evident.
First Episode

I have a theory that Dot will adopt Gator, or at least repair the relationship between the both of them. In my eyes with them, it's "everyone get's one."
Gator distracted the goons at the hospital for Dot, which in a way makes her in "debt" to Gator. She still owes him one.
Also, I feel like Gator being adopted by Dot would fill out Linda's "debt"? Dot did ask "why did you abandon us?" to Linda's ghost, so by Dot adopting Gator, I think she'd be fulfilling her "debt" and Linda's as well since I feel that Linda and Dot deeply regret abandoning their kids (and we know from Ep 8 Dot feels remorse for leaving Gator as well)
If we're operating off of the Oedipus things, in the story he fell in love with his mother, but in Fargo terms I believe due to trauma bonding Gator and Dot have some type of "love" or essentially Dot is the only one who ever "loved" Gator.
I think 5.10 is going to be wild, and anything can happen. The show has a history of kids being cared for or raised by people other than their biological parents, and of course Oedipus was in that situation himself.
Having said that, Gator is now an adult, even though emotionally he is a child begging for acceptance and love from a parent. I'm not sure that he can be redeemed and still survive. Right up until the last moments before being blinded, he was still being defiant and non-apologetic. Through the blinding, he now sees Roy clearly for what he is.
I am hoping he will redeem himself in some way, and that will likely happen, but I have doubts about his survival beyond that.
Still, I think we may see three alternate endings, so at least one could involve the situation you describe.

labels like psychopathy and sociopathy are too hastily ascribed to Shauna Shipman not least of all because, A) all of the #unhinged behaviors & actions we've seen from her are more accurately attributable to a combination of 1) PTSD, 2) post-partum depression, 3) grief, 4) arrested development
AND-- more importantly insofar as it concerns definitions:
B) the key hallmarks of antisocial personality disorder (the clinical term for sociopathy/psychopathy) distinguishing it from mere jerkass behavior are 1) lack of remorse/regret or guilt for past actions, 2) inability to feel empathy* for others.
*empathy: the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another
two things Shauna is not are unempathetic and unable to feel remorse.
From the moment we meet Shauna as a kid she's writhing in guilt, and--I would argue--empathy. The whole reason she can't bring herself to tell Jackie she's planning on going to Brown is that she knows the disappointment will devastate Jackie and she doesn't want to hurt her best friend's feelings. Yes, she resents herself and especially Jackie for this but Shauna's empathy is what paralyzes her and keeps her from being honest.
Adult Shauna is just as capable of remorse/guilt and empathy:
When Tai shows up at her house and confides in her that she's started sleepwalking again, without Tai even having to ask, Shauna invites her to spend the night and promises to watch over her
after Callie shares with her how Shauna's unwillingness to discuss her past has deeply hurt Callie, Shauna acknowledges how her inability to confront her trauma has hurt her child and immediately tries to make amends by giving Callie what she needs and opening up.
And this is without getting into how Shauna's immense guilt and shame over her actions in the wilderness compelled her to punish herself post-rescue by not going to Brown (her dream school) and instead transforming her life into a living memorial to her dead friend.
Even adult Shauna's most violent action--killing Adam--wasn't an act of cold-blooded murder but rather happened as a result of PTSD-induced psychosis, as evidenced by her hallucinating that her journals are missing from the safe in the first place, and the flash to teen Shauna right after she guts him. She wasn't in her right mind. Does that excuse her? No. But killing someone during a bout of psychosis brought on by untreated PTSD is not the same as intentionally killing someone to solve a problem or in a fit of rage.
Is Shauna a violent person? Yes. Is she a selfish person? Yes. Is she self-destructive? Yes. Does she often behave irresponsibly and inappropriately? Yes. Is she dangerous? YES. But these qualities don't make her a psychopath. She's got too much empathy and is too burdened by guilt to have APD.
Shauna Shipman is what 2 1/2 decades of untreated PTSD & PPD + unresolved grief does to a person

Catra vs Hordak
She-Ra ended years ago, but like many things that I love, I still think about it.
Something I've struggled with is how much I dislike Hordak. It was mostly contextualized in terms of why I'm not a fan of Entrapdak (this is NOT an invitation to hate on the ship) but also in why I'm willing to forgive Catra's crimes but not Hordak's. I think I've finally figured out why.
For a long time I thought it was just a double standard, because I'm tired of being made to sympathize with cruel male characters and I also relate to Catra because her traumas reminded me of my own. I always said that Catra's redemption arc isn't about whether she deserves one. Deserving isn't the point - change is the point. So if deserving isn't the point, why am I unwilling to give the same emotional grace to Hordak? And I recently realized what was the difference between Hordak and Catra for me.
Catra chose to change.
Hordak...made a friend?
It felt to me like I was supposed to think Hordak wasn't so bad because he was capable of love when he bonded with Entrapta, even though he continued to strive toward his goals of conquest. Even in the finale, he didn't show regret for the destruction he wrought on Etheria - he told Horde Prime that he'd accomplished all these things on his own, with no remorse for the horror he'd inflicted. He didn't even blame Prime for conditioning him into a warlike person who inflicted horror, which would have at least acknowledged what he'd done was awful.
But that's not what happened with Catra. Like Hordak, she spiraled into a pattern of cruelty because she was struggling with constant pain, felt abandoned, and war was all she'd ever known. What Catra did was plan to do one selfless thing when she understood how important her love for Adora was, by saving Glimmer, then die having done that "one good thing." Then she found herself being given another chance, which she believed she didn't deserve because she understood all the pain she'd caused. She understood that she'd waged war on innocent people, that she'd hurt and manipulated those close to her, and she believed she deserved to die because of it.
I'm not saying that her feelings of remorse are the reason she "deserves" a redemption arc while Hordak doesn't because he didn't "feel remorse." The feelings aren't the point - here's the point: Catra understood what she did wrong and made the decision and effort to change. She decided to face her past and work towards a better future despite everything she'd done. (And while that process did feel quite rushed, I believe that's mostly because the showrunners didn't know if they'd get a sixth season and didn't want to risk it, so they packed two seasons worth of story into one.) We didn't see any of that with Hordak. There was no owning up to his actions alongside him throwing off the chains of his upbringing, and it would have been so much more interesting for his character if he'd shown that recognition and wanting to do better.

Love Reading 🎇 - April 2024 - Scorpio
Singles:
Who is Coming In: 9 Pentacles & The High Priestess
Regarding: The Moon
Long-Term Potential: 8 Pentacles & Temperance
This is someone from your past, and when I say “the past” I mean the DEEP past. Childhood? You haven’t talked to this person in years easily, maybe even a decade. Not only do you not talk, they’re not on any of your social media either, because you have no flippin’ clue what this person has been up to in the many years that have passed since you knew-of them. Same for them. Either they rejected you or you rejected them when y’all were spring chickens 🐓 that’s how they’re being described, and also that now they’re hot, and you’ll see that you’ve been blind to this person all along - or switch it. With messages, I’d assume they’re the ones that will pop up and surprise you, and that may not even be conscious. They see you at the grocery story and chase you down because they recognize you. You honestly may not even remember them 😆 Long term, you both are taking it slow, maneuvering around work and whatever you’ve got going on in your lives - I’m getting work is demanding for at least one of you, like long hours or idk maybe they’re a doctor on call a lot. You will have a new beginning and I keep hearing there’s no rush. What’s meant to be will be, and how it happens could be unexpected, but you can’t miss it.
Messages:
- Physically Fit 💪
- I love to SURPRISE you 😯
MIRROR 🪞
- Mirroring Each Other
- Self-Reflection
- Introspection
- Inner Wounds
Signs you may be dealing with:
Heavy Cancer, Pisces, Virgo & Aries
Couples:
Them: Knight of Swords, 4 Wands, 2 Wands rev
Regarding: 5 Cups
Either this person is married and you know it, or they have a rocky relationship with their parents, and are currently living with them. Their parents could have a difficult relationship. This person tells you all about their woes and drama, and in return, you’re madly in love with them. Would probably do anything for them. They could be kind of a hardass in their personality, they’ve probably faced a lot of family-based trauma in their lives, but they’re not doing anything about it either. They’re “playing it safe” by remaining quiet, going along to get along, I mean…I don’t see abuse or anything but I do see an uncomfortable environment. Or they’re couples up and they’re messaging you, they’re a player, but they’re staying with their person. Or have. Whether they’re leading you on or not, they have Shadow Self. If it’s ended, for some it has, it’s because they got caught, and now they’re in regret and remorse for how they’ve behaved 💯But they still have Shadow Self here, I would be cautious with that one.
Messages:
- Bookworm 📕
- Shadow Self 😈
THE DRAGONFLY 🦋
- Lighthearted & Adapt
- Finding Out & Change
- Things Coming to Light & Heal
Even if dark-souled entities are in your own family, know that you can divorce yourself from them.
You: Queen of Cups, 9 Cups, 2 Cups
Regarding: Judgement
Your energy is sweet, very loving, you’re madly in love with this person and you want another chance with them. You think about them constantly, they’re the person on your heart. You’re waiting for them to leave whoever they’re with currently and come back to you, or just choose you. You believe this is your soulmate with 2 Cups & The Lovers, this is the person you were made for. But, they show up as Pentacles along with the person they’re with, a divine pair. For those in this situation, this person is just yanking your chain for whatever they can get from you, especially if they’ve gotten caught, they’re outta here. I don’t know if they fed you this loving narrative or if you’re just going by how you feel - but you can’t make other people feel what you feel. All of these cups, and the messages, they’re all deeply heartfelt & genuine, this person doesn’t deserve that from you, not once you can see them clearly - with some distance & probably time. You’re willing to give everything to someone who isn’t reciprocating and has no real intention…you have to protect your heart.
Messages:
- I’m afraid to LOSE you.
- I feel bound to you.
PICTURE 📸
- Looking at Pictures
- Missing You
- Nostalgia
- Make New Memories
You can be a caregiver and a rescuer, but be sure you’re your own caregiver first.
Mutual: King of Pentacles, The Fool, 9 Wands
Regarding: Justice
This person is going to jump ship, or already has, that could be the current situation. 9 Wands would indicate perseverance, probably with this Queen of Pentacles that matches them. They could be traveling or moving, switching positions or getting a job further away, there’s something that’s going to remove this person from you - and it’s their choice. Something they agree to. It seems out of control but it’s only out of *your* control, not theirs. It seems impulsive, but they’re keeping their cards close to their chest and not being transparent. Basically everything that’s going to hurt where this person is concerned is a conscious decision they’re making - not some random act of fate - though they may present it that way to save face. Karma may be kicking their ass with their current person, and if they do end up getting divorced/breaking up, you could end up getting a taste of this person’s karma by getting involved. If they didn’t choose you, let them go. Whatever happens on anyone’s side, they’re aware they deserve it. Or will be, it could take time.
POKER FACE ♦️
- Taking a Chance
- Risks & Options
- Not Showing Hand
- Gambling
If you’re in a negative environment, it creates a block, and positive energy can’t get through.
Signs you may be dealing with:
Aries, Cancer, Scorpio, Sagittarius & Gemini

Theory for belos the owl house
Phillip suffers from anti social personality disorder only felt comfortable with his brother and he grew up in a time where killing anyone who seemed evil was rewarded he was RAISED that way and his untreated illness made him into a monster where the only person who could keep him in check left him. I know that doesn’t excuse his actions but that’s what happens when you don’t help someone who has an illness. Childhood trauma and indoctrination from a young age can play a big role in who a person becomes.
exploit, manipulate or violate the rights of others
lack concern, regret or remorse about other people's distress
behave irresponsibly and show disregard for normal social behaviour
have difficulty sustaining long-term relationships
be unable to control their anger
lack guilt, or not learn from their mistakes
blame others for problems in their lives
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is a mental health condition. People with ASPD may not understand how to behave toward others. Their behavior is often disrespectful, manipulative or reckless.
if not he doesn’t have antisocial personality disorder then he has psychopathic personality disorder I looked up both and can share links as long as it’s not braking tumbler rules
if not antisocial personality disorder then psychopathy
deviant behavior.
Psychopaths are known for needing excessive stimulation, but most foolhardy adventures only end in disillusionment because of conflicts with others and unrealistic expectations. Furthermore, many psychopaths are disheartened by their inability to control their sensation-seeking and are repeatedly confronted with their weaknesses. Although they may attempt to change, low fear response and associated inability to learn from experiences lead to repeated negative, frustrating, and depressing confrontations, including trouble with the justice system.
As psychopaths age, they are not able to continue their energy-consuming lifestyle and become burned-out and depressed while they look back on their restless life full of interpersonal discontentment. Their health deteriorates as the effects of their recklessness accumulate.

this was a post in the anti catradora and anti catra tag. i'm not gonna address the crosstagging and i'm not gonna mention the op's url, i just wanna address the post specifically.
is catra morally grey? i don't think so. having a tragic backstory does not make you morally grey. in that case, belos from toh would be “morally grey” since he clearly was a victim of religious trauma and had a complicated relationship with his brother. firelord ozai from atla would be “morally grey” because his father most likely treated him the same way he treated zuko and azula. azula would be a “morally grey” character because she was abused.
but that's not what being morally grey is. it's not about being mistreated or having gone through trauma. grey morality is about actions, not motives.

Sorry i'm late with the asks ♻️👑👻
(It's okay, I was even later)
I’ve already answered similar questions about c!Wilbur and c!Schlatt.
As for c!Dream... it's complicated, and I have actually had a long post about this in the works for a while now. But my short answer is... no, probably not.
First of all, I would like to say that my answer to the question of “can c!Dream be redeemed?” has very little to do with the severity of his actions and whether I personally find them forgivable. I am a firm believer that redemption isn't something you earn, but an active choice that a person must continually make. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, can become a kinder, wiser, better person - provided they are willing to change. The real question is, would c!Dream be willing to change, and would this change be believable and satisfying to the audience?
Let's look at the typical components for a redemption arc (or growth arc, or healing arc, or whatever term you prefer): recognition of one’s flaws, actions taken to remedy those flaws, a significant positive change, and recognition of this change either by the narrative or surrounding characters (note that acceptance of positive change is not necessarily equivalent to forgiveness, or to welcoming one back into their life).
Could c!Dream feel remorse for his actions? Possibly, although I think that if any such regret exists now, it’s buried very deep; c!Dream is a reserved fellow, and a terribly prideful one, who doesn’t often admit when he’s wrong (and believes these admissions even less often). His outward reactions to the pain his actions have caused range from detached indifference to sadistic glee - and considering these actions include but are not limited to serial murder, the destruction of nations, and conditioning someone into helplessness and suicidality, this lack of negative response is significant and disturbing. I think it would take something huge to shake him, but I have no clue what that would be.
Could c!Dream change his mindset or behavior? Here it becomes even less likely. He has invested a significant amount of time and effort into his current plans, and the sunk cost fallacy is a very powerful thing. Furthermore, he has often feigned a change of mind in the past, such as when he attempted to build bridges with c!Tommy during Pogtopia, acted like c!Tubbo’s friend after c!Tommy was exiled, or tried to convince people that he was becoming a better person in prison. These instances of calculated deceit would make any future claims of improvement very difficult to take at face value, both for the characters and we viewers.
Could c!Dream ever be forgiven? That's going to vary from person to person, but I don't think the people he's hurt the most are likely to do so. c!Tommy has enough trauma from being abused, murdered, and personally terrorized by c!Dream to last a lifetime; he wants him dead and gone. c!Tubbo is in a similar boat. c!Wilbur, who once viewed him as a savior, now loathes him for what he did to his little brother figure. c!Sapnap made a promise to kill him, and is willing to stake his very existence on it. c!George is... c!George (sorry, I’m not an expert). The entire server teamed up to take c!Dream down, and was ready to watch his execution; who among them could have their minds changed? Again, forgiveness is not strictly necessary for change to occur, but an environment where one is almost universally loathed is hardly conducive to personal growth.
With all these taken together... the prospects are pretty grim.
But what about the Staged Finale? Doesn’t that prove that we’ve all misread c!Dream’s true intentions, that he’s willing to sacrifice himself for a noble cause, that all his villainy was a ruse?
Well, yes, but actually, no.
See, the only thing we know about the finale is that it was staged. We don’t actually know why yet, although many theories exist, and not all of them are a good look for him. Hell, with the short Revival Book lore video, the implications look even worse. The Staged Finale reveal might call some of his stated philosophies about attachment and control into question, but it reinforces two equally influential facets of his distorted worldview: his conviction that the ends always justify the means, and his willingness to lie to get his way. Both are established flaws, and both need to be challenged for any real growth to take place.
It’s also worth pointing out what exactly his goals are. Let’s accept that they include, at least, a completely united server with no countries, no boundaries, and no significant authority save for his own. He wants, at best, a return to the “good old days” that were never as good as he remembers, and at worst, absolute tyrannical control over other server members who now hate, fear, and resent him. These goals are impossible.
But the thing about impossible, dreamlike goals is that their proponents will often go unfathomable lengths to achieve them.
And I think it’s ironic and pretty damn tragic that the very thing that keeps c!Dream sympathetic, even respectable in a weird, twisted way - his willingness to cavalierly endure personal loss rather than exclusively inflicting it - also makes redemption much harder to envision.
Ask yourself this: what sacrifice would c!Dream be unwilling to make?
Regardless of whether he believed his proclamations at the Finale, he has still very deliberately cut off everything and everyone he believed would hold him back. Losing the few attachments he did have only seemed to spur him on further. And the only people left who stand by him appear unconditional in their allegiance, or at least are enabling him for the perceived greater good; they are unlikely to challenge his ultimate goal, and if they did, c!Dream is likely to cut them off as well. Remember what I said above about the sunk cost fallacy? Until we hear his thoughts or observe hesitation firsthand, we can’t say for sure that his stint in Pandora’s Vault going so horribly wrong has shaken his resolve to unite the server under his rules and by any means necessary. It’s just as likely to have strengthened his committment, or made him angrier, because what else does he have left if not his master plan for control? It can’t have been all for nothing.
(I could talk for another five paragraphs about how the notion that suffering automatically demonstrates or triggers moral goodness is extremely problematic and enables abuse from multiple angles, and how much I appreciate that c!Dream’s isolation and torture was shown to have entirely negative effects as it realistically would, but I digress.)
Right, then. Remorse is unlikely, change is even more unlikely, and reconciliation is almost inconceivable. What does that leave us with?
I think the only believable option for any “redemption” c!Dream might have isn’t so much a redemption as a revelation, either on the audience’s part or on his. Choice #1 is that we are given information about his true plans, and they are shown to be benevolent or at least far more sympathetic than we’ve been led to believe. This runs the risk of coming across as... ridiculously cheap, to put it gently, so my preferred option is choice #2: c!Dream is given a taste of victory, only for it to leave him hollow and unsatisfied. The server is united, the people in it are a picture-perfect happy family, and it feels... fake. Distressingly so. In a tragedy, there is no going back, and he must wallow in regret or continue his Sisyphean quest; in bittersweet ending, he manages to undo the damage either at great personal cost or is haunted by his failure for the rest of his (probably very few) days. I can’t see a truly “happy” ending for him, nor am I certain what that would look like. I believe that the only way he would give up on his current path is to have his nose shoved in the mess he’s made and realize that not only are his means horrific (he already knows that), but his very ideals are impossible to achieve. Even then, it’s possible he would double down, or the realization may simply shatter him. Cue epic final battle, a sword through his heart, etc.
So yeah. I won’t entirely rule out a c!Dream redemption arc. Miracles can happen. But I think that given his existing patterns and the way the cc seems to be setting up his lore (*Chug Jug plays mournfully*), it’s quite a pipe dream. No pun intended.

Forever & Always: Elijah
It would not, I'm sure, be a surprise to anyone to discover that Elijah is my favorite character. There's something about a controlled competency in a character that could destroy a world that just gets me. I think perhaps what I always loved about Elijah was that he always was exactly as he was. He never apologized and he never looked back. This isn't to say he is incapable of remorse, or that he doesn't feel it for actions he's taken, but Elijah does not, I think, believe in regrets. Because his choices are made with complete control, he can feel sorrow over a life taken or a friendship lost, but he doesn't seek redemption for it. Life is lived and lessons learned. He always moves on.
Elijah is strong and solid and competent and controlled and kind, but he is also beautiful and terrible. He is a god, perhaps more than any of the others, because through his control and the sort of infinite softness he possesses, he is also ruthless. He is not cruel, and there is, I think, a distinct difference in this. Elijah is kind but his kindness has limits, and the lines he will and will not cross are clearly drawn. Elijah does not waste life, but neither does he particularly seem to revere it. He takes life when needed and necessary, but he is not senseless. He does not have the cruelty of Klaus or the recklessness of Kol or even the dispassionate indifference of Rebekah--life is life, and Elijah saves or takes as needed, and is always aware of the cost. He values honesty and forthrightness and loyalty, and he has an endless capacity to forgive--but he is not without his faults. He is more than the other vampires, more than humans, he is a god among lesser gods (and there are really only 4 people who can know what it is to be a god). He does not ask for permission and he does not seek forgiveness.
Elijah is also, perhaps, the single most unselfish person on this show, except maybe for Hayley. He gives of himself to his siblings, utterly and completely, without thought or reservation. For the ones he loves, Elijah will endure infinite pain and loss and heartbreak, so long as they remain alive and happy. Elijah does not ask for anything himself, but his selflessness is not without consequence for those he loves.
But perhaps Elijah's single and most defining trait, the thing that drives him, is family. Elijah will burn the world for those he loves. There is a scene early on where he goes to save a witch at the church, and he tells Klaus he gave his word that Klaus wouldn't kill her. Once Klaus agrees, Elijah snaps her neck. There is little to no emotion in the move, its one of the less violent deaths we have on the show. But his words "no one hurts my family and lives" perfectly encapsulates all that he is. Eljiah will do anything, anything, for the ones he loves.
This story then, for Elijah, is what it means to love. He has loved his brother for a thousand years, through misery and agony and pain and trauma, through his very best moments and his worst. Elijah's life has been lived, in it's entirety, to make up for the existence of pain in his brother's life. In TO, we get to see Elijah more fully and completely than we ever did before. We see his grace, his kindness, his charm, his softness, but we see also the depths of what he is capable of. His only remorse is in the death of one he had once considered family.
In The Originals, we also see Elijah fall in love. As with anything, Elijah, despite his claims to Klaus, doesn't actually take anything. Hayley initiates, and he is always, always careful to allow her to dictate the terms of their relationship. It also leads, perhaps for the first time in his life, for him to realize how important he is to the ones he loves. There is a scene in the fourth season where he is was ready, once again, to sacrifice himself for Klaus and his niece, and Hayley stops him dead in his tracks. It's one of the few times we see Elijah speechless, but there is a moment where she says "I need you. I love you," and you can see him sort of realize that perhaps his own life has value. That he is more than just a protector. We watch as Elijah grows from someone whose sole goal is keeping his brother alive and happy and his family together, to a man who realizes that perhaps he can have more. He can have a life, his own life, with a woman he loves in a place of his choosing. He can be more than he has been.
But this story is not about redemption. It is not about happily ever after. It is not about finding peace. Elijah, like all the Mikaelson's, has done unspeakable things. He has committed horrors, and while perhaps he does not seek forgiveness, neither can he be excepted to find grace. The Red Door, I think, is not so much hiding Elijah's shame as it is a reminder of what he is and has always been. It's two sides of a coin. He is a monster and a man, and he chooses every day to be the man--but he cannot ignore the monster. This story is about family, and about how far we go for the ones we love. This story has always been about endings, about death in all of its forms. They do not get to find their peace.
Elijah's end, in the finale of season 4, is the best ending I think there could have been for him. In the end, Elijah does what he has always done, down to the very core of his being. He dies, for the people he loves. He loses a chance to be a lover and an uncle, to be a brother. He loses his family, but in doing so, he saves them all. Elijah lives, but he has lost the chance to ever be with his family, and their memory is lost to him as well. He can find a measure of peace, but not as himself, not as the man that he was. He is, in the end, all that he has ever been. He will live forever as a monument to the love of his family--he loses himself to save the ones he loves, always and forever.

Blog 16- 2/21
When I saw that this was a Studio Ghibli film, I knew that Grave of the Fireflies was going to be a well put together movie, although I didn’t think that they covered depressing topics like this. One thing that I think it does well is play upon artistic and realistic realms (use of spirituality, symbolism, and realistic depictions), and after reading Stahls Victimization and “Response-ability”: Remembering, Representing, and Working Through Trauma in Grave of the Fireflies, it’s easy to understand how this was achieved flawlessly. This anime is closely based on the life of the manga writer, Akiyuki Nosaka, who had essentially lived through the same experience as Saita both in the film and manga, although there are fundamental differences that call for a deeper meaning behind the film. On the surface, this film is meant to highlight the tragedies of war, not only in terms of casualties, but in terms of the impoverished lifestyle it breeds, as well as the overall callousness of Japanese society at the time. In the film, Saita and Setsuko are quickly left to their own devices after their parents are torn from their lives seemingly overnight, and despite their best efforts of attempting to live a normal life, they are constantly faced with hardships and lack of remorse from others within the community. There are multiple things at play here, one is the idea of immaturity, representing innocence and ignorance from the war and its true nature through Setsuko, as well as representing a lack of ability to truly care for others through Saita’s valiant attempt. Another aspect is the use of ego, which can be seen through the kids’ aunt, who constantly berates the two, getting mad at them for having fun, wanting to eat, and not objecting when Saita says they’re leaving, all because Saita isn’t serving the war as much as he can, and referring to the two as “freeloaders,” despite being kids. On the other hand, Saita also has an ego, instead of apologizing and attempting to help the community, he decides that it was best for him and Setsuko to live alone, to the detriment of both of them. Another aspect is the zeitgeist at the time. As everyone was going through the same experience, it was hard to show compassion towards others when you had yourself and your own family to look after. After millions had been affected, it was hard for others to show more affection for one over the other, and eventually there were so many who were affected (emotionally and physically) who were no longer viewed with grief, but rather with disgust, as in certain ways, they served as a constant reminder of the war and its tragedies, and being displaced, were maybe viewed as “litter” that was strewn about everywhere.
After reading Stahl’s piece, one can see that this film is more than just a film, it is in some ways a memorial, an apology, and a fantasy. As mentioned, Nosaka had lived through a similar scenario as Saita, although there were core differences that give Grave of the Fireflies a romanticized lens of a sad and avoidable reality. One is that Nosaka was not a war orphan, and in fact had a foster mother, who despite being injured, was still alive, as well as an affluent father. He also had a foster sister who was left in his care, and although Nosaka could’ve found family to stay with, he didn’t, and the pair braved the world together. Another key difference was Nosaka’s interaction with his sister, being that he wasn’t selfless, he was in fact selfish, focusing on his survival purely, which led to his sister’s malnourishment and eventual death. Knowing this information, we see that Grave of the Fireflies is an altered reality, one free from the regret of Nosaka’s misdeeds, one that he wished was the case. It also serves as a memorial for his sister, who can live on through the film, and used as an icon of awareness about the tragedies of war.
