had a banger day!!! stopped by the headland without expecting to see much, but ended up staying longer than planned because the strong winds forced seabirds close to shore. got literal thousands of manx shearwaters, over 100 storm petrels, a flock of arctic terns & a GREAT SKUA!!!! (aka the best bird)

the petrels were so close to shore that you could see them without binoculars!! skua was further out but had it nicely in the spotting scope. my dad & i might go down to our favourite seawatching headland tomorrow since the wind is good for it! birders in the south of the country are getting good stuff so worth a shot

Hello Tumblr people! I wrote a thing, I hope you like it!

Just for context, Alex is trapped in a school for villains.

tw: fear of death, fear of dissection, implied death, dehumanization.

Chapter 1. All My Friends Are Dead.

They were killing his friends again.

Alex watched as the villains plucked them from their cages to be dissected by students. he had given up on trying to stop them. No matter what he did the people he loved were always ripped away from him. Any other person would be withdrawn not wanting to make any friends. And Alex sometimes felt that way. Like if he didn't talk to the borrowers that were put with him then he wouldn't get hurt. But he wasn't doing it for himself he was doing it for his friends. He didn't want their sole purpose in life to just be a plaything to the asshole students who would cut them up without remorse.

So he made as many friends as he could. And even if they don't tell him, he knows that he's appreciated.

Still, it made it that much harder when the villains came to collect them. He watched dejectedly as the borrower in the cage next to him was plucked up their eyes wide pleading with him to do something. He looked down and closed his eyes. He couldn't bear to watch yet another one of his friends die. He knew he couldn't do anything about it, but he still felt like he had betrayed them.

He heard the villain's footsteps retreat to put his friend in a metal container before they came back, probably to grab the borrower two cages to his right. He was so certain of it that he was very surprised when he heard the door to his cage swing open.

His eyes flew open as he instinctively pressed himself against the wall. The human was reaching for him, they were talking, saying something that Alex couldn't make out over the pounding of his heart. Although he heard the word “finally” clear as day. He tried to dodge the hand but the human had been doing this for a while, he knew all the little tricks borrowers would use to try and get away.

Alex ended up being blocked by a giant palm and he flinched away. He pressed his back to the wall again as the hand approached, wishing he could melt into the glass behind him. The human snaked their fingers around his back and he shuddered at the touch.

He tried to bolt but the human’s thumb pressed into his stomach leaving him gasping for air. He hardly had any time to catch his breath before he was lifted out of the cage, his feet dangling in midair. He squirmed pushing against the human's thumb before realizing that even if he could budge it, he was the equivalent of hundreds of feet off the ground. If he fell he would most certainly die. Not like he wasn't gonna die anyway.

He stopped moving and let the human carry him over to a cart filled with small metal cups. The human took the lid off one of them lowering Alex toward the opening. Alex started struggling again. He braced his feet against the top of the cup in a futile attempt to stop himself from falling in. He hit the bottom of the cup with a metal thunk. He stood up quickly to try to climb out but the human had already screwed the lid on tight, shrouding him in darkness.

He stood there for a second bewildered at the events that just occurred. He had seen this happen to so many people over the years so many of his friends had been subjected to this fate. But he had been left alone for so long that he naively assumed he wouldn’t suffer the same fate. How could he have been so stupid? He punched the wall as hard as he could making the cup shake violently, he had to crouch in order to keep his balance. Wait a second that wasn’t just shaking, he was moving. The human was taking him to the classroom! It dawned on him that he was about to die. His breaths started coming in quick bursts as he scrabbled at the walls looking for any way to get out. He could hear scratching from outside the cup as well and it occurred to him that it was the other borrowers, also trying to get out just as fervently as he was.

The cart stopped suddenly, throwing him into the wall. He hardly had time to sit up before he was being jostled again, this time because the cup was being lifted. He put his hands against the walls and closed his eyes in an attempt to stave off the nausea that came from being lifted so fast. Just as soon as he was picked up he was put down again, probably on a student’s desk. He slumped against the wall, pitying himself and his friends. He distantly heard the professor talking, the sound was echoey and haunting, reverberating against the walls of his temporary prison. He decided right then that he had done enough in his life. He had helped countless borrowers. While they were with him they were happy. They had had a friend. He was totally ok with dying. With this thought in mind he curled into a ball and awaited his fate.
