remember in the SECOND EPISODE of merlin when gaius was all, "merlin, i’m sorry but your word counts for nothing because you’re a servant and no one will care what you have to say"
and then merlin came to arthur and arthur was all SWEAR TO ME THAT WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE and THEN I BELIEVE YOU and then he went to his father and assembled the whole court so that merlin's concerns would be heard, because he shared them
remember when even after not being able to substantiate the claim and firing merlin he still believed that what merlin said was the truth. remember when even after being sacked and sent away merlin came back to warn arthur
remember when arthur was all “my father will never apologize to me for being wrong” and then turned right around and APOLOGIZED TO MERLIN (his manservant!) and ADMITTED HE WAS WRONG. remember when uther was all, you care about some manservant's opinion??? and arthur was all, well yes, obviously, because merlin's a fucking person. remember when arthur saw merlin as a person when all his life merlin has felt different and other and confused about who he is and what he is
and also, again, all of this was in the SECOND EPISODE
remember when in the second episode arthur already showed he'd be a better ruler for albion than uther ever was, even back then when arthur was still so young at heart and had so much learning and growing still to do
remember when this all foreshadowed how he would take (and even ask for) merlin's perspective and advice later, during crucial moments for the kingdom
okay. and also since i'm here
THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT YOU, MERLIN in the first episode (the first episode!!!)
and
the way merlin is all "you have the wrong person" this and "arthur's an idiot" that but as soon as he hears confirmation that arthur is his destiny he's THROWING himself in harm's way (literally) for arthur, he's cheering for arthur in tournaments, he's worrying about him
arthur is the one who started a second confrontation at the marketplace - not merlin. because he was curious about him. because he wanted him in his life and didn't even understand why yet
because he can feel it; they can both feel it
THEY'RE TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN!!!! soulmates!!!!!!
okay, and listen. listen
thinking about arthur's journey from anger to acceptance to gratitude once he learns about merlin's magic, and how on some level you'd think that would change their dynamic forever because arthur would feel he could never make it up to merlin for all the ways he'd saved and supported arthur and the kingdom. and maybe arthur might feel that way for a while. but the fact of the matter is that arthur has always treated merlin as more than his manservant. from day one. FROM DAY ONE
merlin would have served arthur for the rest of his life!!! he would have been his court sorcerer!!! okay! he was ready for that! he was ready to see arthur white-haired and wise in his old age and he would have been at his side then still helping him dress even though he doesn't need to anymore, arthur's got other servants for that, and merlin's got other duties now, and arthur would say, shouldn't you be in your tower, dollophead? even while shrugging into the jacket merlin holds out for him, and merlin would respond i should, my lord even while fastening the clasps of arthur's cloak and it would be everything and nothing like old times
god, do you ever just think about THEM and have a whole Situation because... THEY

that winter in camelot is the coldest merlin can remember. the snow lays coffin deep in the courtyard, and when he tries using his magic to keep gwen's chambers warm, she scolds him for giving her preferential treatment. he hasn't quite gotten the hang of warming the entire castle, much less anything beyond that, so he settles for enchanting the stole leon had gifted her in secret and using his energy to keep every fire he can going.
it's all he can do, these days, to keep a fire going. gaius has him on a number of draughts and dried herbs he's carefully stored since the summer solstice, but they do little in the way of keeping merlin's heart from stopping every time he sees a flash of golden hair.
it's in the wake of the third snowfall that he hears from his mother.
ealdor is blanketed in white, thatch roofs bending and bowing under the freezing weight, and there's a teenaged boy he recognises in the unsettling, removed sort of way adding another log to his mother's dying fire.
his knees give out. a familiar feeling rises in his chest: that he wishes he could make his mother's bed more comfortable, give her the plushness only royals are privy to. he thinks of gwen's stole, of her lavish pillows, of her fire raging, and thinks of his mother, dying on a bed of straw.
she's days away from death, if that. it will be the second person he's lost this year, and merlin has come to terms with eternity's cold grip, no longer has the fight left in him to uncurl its fingers from its tight grasp.
he grips her frail fingers and does everything he can to keep the fire going.
to say, "i will never forget you."
she smiles at him. "that," she tells him, "is how i know you love me."
it takes him a few more winters to understand, fully, what his mother meant. in those years, he loses, and loses, and loses, until grief is a friend that walks beside him. when he realises that death will never come for him, but rather will flirt with his friends, seduce those he loves until they leave him to pick up their shadows, it hits him. to love someone is to remember.
so he begins telling stories. he's not good with words, at first. doesn't know how to tell anyone about arthur in a way that makes what he was make sense. he was more than my king. he was insufferable. he was half of me. he was arrogant and foolhardy and stupid. he was my destiny.
how do you say that? how do you find the words for that? how do you describe gwen-- beautiful, kind gwen, who deserved the world over? how do you describe gaius-- wise, complicated gaius, who harboured him when no one else would? how do you describe gwaine, and lancelot, and leon, and percival, and elyan, and morgana, and mordred, and--
how do you make your love into a legend?
merlin tells stories until his throat goes raw. he spends centuries spinning tales. there once, he tells countless, wide-eyed children, was a great king named arthur. and one day, he will come back.
to love someone is to remember. and merlin commissions paintings, reads poetry, watches plays where the actors try to mimic his friends.
all those centuries later, his heart still stops at a flash of golden hair.
in those first years, merlin had wondered if arthur knew how loved he was, how much merlin loved him. so merlin crafts him a world that knows his name, so that when he comes back, there will be no question.
arthur comes back to him in winter. there isn't snow on the ground, but his skin is chilled from lake water, and merlin does everything he can to keep the fire going.
as he's warming up his king, combing his hair, drying his hands, he dares to ask.
"do you remember me?"
it's a question larger than the words that contain it. but arthur turns to him, and honest to god rolls his eyes, and speaks, for the first time in several lifetimes.
"i could never forget you, merlin."
and merlin thinks, he might love me, too.

I will feed on your hate, Commodus x Reader/You
After months of writing block I finally got to write again T_T this is a special piece for the wonderful @kfanniart a while ago we had spoken about Commodus, how he would feel and how we would love to comfort him, so here is a fic inspired by our talks <3
Tumblr media
Commodus was quietly walking in the corridors of the palace; he had always been light foot. He had taken this habit from his father and from his passion for hunting; it was a good way to spy on your counterparts. You had always been amazed by how quick he could walk and yet remain completely silent, each of his movements, his breathing, a true hunter. Commodus’ fingertips brushed against a column as he leaned against it to listen to some Senators present at the palace.
“Ah don’t be so gentle Gaius I know that you think deep down. That child isn’t half as good as his father.” Spoke the first Senator with a knowing grin, how imprudent they were.
“I am smarter than you Brutus I don’t want to be heard speaking ill of the Emperor. He is not as merciful as Marcus Aurelius.
“See? Another flaw of his. Sometimes I wonder if he is not a bastard son to be the opposite of his father.” He scoffed, a mean glow in his eyes.
“What is the point to criticizing him every day? If he keeps going that way, he will fall soon anyway, and we will all be grateful for it.” Sighed Gaius, he was arrogant, thinking himself all mighty. He snapped his fingers at an old slave “You. Speak without fear of punishment. What do you think of your new master?” he asked. The old man seemed to hesitate at first, looking around to see if there were witnesses to his words. So, Commodus leaned more against the column listening, his heart racing faster, he had a bad feeling about it. When one hid to speak of a man, it was never to praise him.
“He is not like the great Marcus Aurelius. He doesn’t sleep, he is not at peace. He is moody, not wise.” Replied the man before quickly going back to his work, not knowing he had been heard by Commodus himself. According to his reputation, it could have been expected that the young emperor would have come out of his hiding spot, yelling for the guards to seize the traitors or even killing them himself in his rage.
But there wasn’t any of it. Commodus’ heart was stabbed again, betrayed…how could people and especially his own people, servants be so ungrateful? Didn’t he love them enough? talked with them enough? Perhaps he was the only Emperor who didn’t mind befriending those who served him. Because he was the People.
Still as quietly as he came, he left, heading back to his private quarters as fast as possible, his eyes wet with tears, his breathing fast, uncontrolled. He couldn’t even think anymore, the sound of his hammering heart pounding in his ears.
Soon, he found himself in your room, barely understanding where he was, his body had guided him to the safest place for his spirit, you. You lifted your head from the broderie you were making, looking at the young Emperor who had busted in your room unannounced. It wasn’t the first time he did it and each time it was because he was upset.
“Do you wish to talk about what happened, Commodus?” you offered, sometimes he didn’t wish to talk but simply sit in your company. And other times, his burden was too heavy for his mind not to share. Slowly, his eyes lifted from the ground to look at you, finally understanding where he was. He opened his mouth as if to mutter an apology. His gaze became boyish as he approached you and slowly dropped on his knees, looking at you in the eyes as he took your hands, fervently kissing your knuckles, staying silent.
“It is alright.” You smiled reassuringly, letting him do. Many would call it inappropriate for two friends, even if childhood friends to be so close. Commodus rested his head on your lap, silently requesting for you to caress his head; it was a gesture that brought him great peace. So, you did, your thumb gently stroking his cheek as the other hand went in his hair, massaging his scalp.
“They hate me…they all do.” He stated, his eyes teary again. “Even dead and years after my father’s death they keep speaking of him as if he was still alive, there to judge me. As if they could dare speak of me that way without fear of punishment, with his support.” He snarled, yet his voice had the tone of a murmur.  You sighed at his words; indeed, it had been years since he had inherited the throne and yet he kept suffering as if nothing had changed. Sometimes you came to wonder if Commodus was meant to be Emperor or if it was a curse thrown upon him.
“Even my own slaves speak poorly of me, they don’t respect me. If a slave can’t respect me, no one ever will.” He murmured, looking at the details of your hands, a way to distract himself from the pain.
“I do respect you Commodus.” You instantly replied, hoping that those words would be enough to sooth him.
“But it is you! It doesn’t matter like-…”
“I am not the only one respecting you. Why don’t I matter? Because I am a woman? Because I can’t bring you votes of the Senate or plot in your favor? How wrong you would be to think that.” You replied seriously to his protest, meeting his dark gaze.
“I know perfectly what you are able to do Y/N. And I have shown myself very grateful for it.” He replied darkly. More than friendship bounded you, dark actions for the cause of the Empire and ensure his safety. You were a bit his shadow agent. “What I meant is that as the Emperor, I need the respect of my people and most Senators. I cannot rule if all are against me.” He replied, a bit calmer to explain himself before tightening your dress in his hand. “I would bet on my own life that History will speak bad of me. I will be the villain and the Senate the heroes. Maybe I will even be forgotten…” he murmured sadly, like his father had made him feel forgotten.
“I recall that you did rather unexpected and innovative things in your reign already. An Emperor gladiator…cherishing his people, establishing peace with the Marcomans and Quades. I see no reason for you to be forgotten. No matter how hard the Senate could try, the People will remember, your statues, your face printed on denarius, scattered across the Empire. You cannot be erased. You will be remembered.” You assured him, keeping on playing with the dark curls of his hair, you knew he would be remembered in both good and bad, no Emperor escaped it, and no one could satisfy all.
“I wish I could make them all stop talking about my father.” He simply replied, a bit calmer. It seemed your words had an effect on him.
“With time they will stop. I promise you, my dearest. And people will judge you by your actions, not by what old senators say of you.” You cooed, detailing his sad face. How much you would give to see him smile again. In a burst of love, you leaned forward, placing your lips on top of his head, leaving a protective kiss upon Commodus. Only you really knew who he was, and you would cherish it.
At your kiss, Commodus lifted his head, looking at you with surprise and wonder. It wasn’t the first kiss you gave him and yet for him it always felt like the first time.
“Would you like to come to bed with me?” you offered with a smile, it was the first time you offered such thing, yet you knew it was a wish of Commodus. He only had never asked because his sister pressured him to ‘leave you alone’. You had caught them arguing about it a few times in the past. So, of course, Commodus was overjoyed to accept, yet for now he kept a rather neutral face, only his eyes shone with a strange glow. He got up and offered you his hand, as always enjoying taking the lead and guiding you to your own bed.
He let you lay down first, letting you invite him in your arms, smiling and looking at him in the eyes “Join me Commodus.” You cooed, with a soft tone, you knew how much he loved quietness at times, hearing your heartbeat against his cheek as he laid on top of you, nuzzling against your breast. It always gave you an effect, you had always loved him of course and he did too, you just never made it official, perhaps another non-conformist side of Commodus.
“I only feel at home when I am in your arms...” he murmured, taking your hand and kissing each of your knuckles devotedly, as you slid your other hand under his tunic, from the base of this neck to caress his tensed shoulders, now relaxing a little.
“If it wasn’t for you, I would have left Rome a while ago to go back to Gaul.” You replied with equal devotion, burying your nose in his coal curls, inhaling his scent of cinnamon and pomegranate. Rome was exhausting, noisy, smelly and full of dangers, even withing the palace walls.
Commodus lifted his head, his gaze dark, passionate. “I would have never let you. If you left me here alone…” he cupped your chin with his fingers “I feel as if I’m dying. A long, slow, agonizing death, ever since…” he briefly looked down, a sad look in his eyes, not having the strength to talk about his past sufferings. “You make me feel alive…every time you speak, every time you touch me.” He murmured, his eyes dark again, his thumb brushing on your lower lip. “Y/N I crave you, like a dying man craving for each breath.” His voice slightly slipped, showing his desperation, his eyes teary from all the emotions he hid from the world. “Please…” he called you in the most painful tone you heard from him, he truly sounded agonizing.
You cupped his face, detailing him as you often did. How much you hated to see him suffer. And yet how much you loved when he let his mask fall. “I love you so much Commodus…I would follow you into the depths of the underworld, in the middle of the bloodiest battles...” you said fondly, he was your whole world, since the moment you had met him. You pulled his face closer to yours, kissing him with strength, a strength no lady should express. But you couldn’t care less, it was to express your love, devotion and respect for the emperor. You could have feared his pride would be triggered but it didn’t, you heard Commodus whimper against your lips, pressing harder against your mouth, his hands sliding to your waist and then hips. His grip was strong, almost painful, as if he feared it wasn’t real, a bad dream the gods would use against Commodus to torture him.
Your fingers went to bury in his hair, slightly pulling on them this time, you had retained your desire for a while.
“I love you too Y/N…I would slaughter my own father for you…give up on the throne.” He breathed against your lips, kissing your face, jaw and going down your neck, worshipping your body, his hands sliding under your dress to caress your thighs, his fingertips soft and his palm callous from handling a sword.
“Why not rule together? Slaughter our enemies together?” you suggested with a grin, you matched his violence, your teeth biting his lower lip as he met your eyes. He chuckled, it was clear by his look that he approved, that you would form the strongest and deadliest couple of the Empire.

Merlin rewatch -- S1E6: A Remedy to Cure All Ills
Gwen
The younger characters had little things to do in this episode, but I love that one scene with Gwen and Gaius very much (despite the fact that the timing of her revelation of Edwin’s misdeed was weird…and that I was still annoyed by Gaius).
My favourite part wasn’t her suspicion for Edwin or her wise words to Gaius (It’s still a great line. “ In life we always have a choice. Sometimes it’s easier to think we don’t.” ) What I love was that after Gaius said he had made the choice to leave, Gwen simply said “ Then I’ll miss you.” She was so kind and respectful. She said what she wanted to say, but didn’t push or begrudge other’s decisions. It’s so lovely.

There is no denomination that exists that has a corner on the truth, and I believe it’s that way for a reason. First of all division breeds deception. We are not supposed to have denominations according to scripture - we are to be of one mind, and that mind being also of one with Christ - Who is The Word. (John 1:1). Those who love the truth and continue to study and grow, will become of one mind sooner or later because they are taught by same the Holy Spirit. The Word is our guideline and whoever sticks to that guideline cannot help but to also stick to each other - and these set apart ones will not claim any denomination - they will only claim to be followers of Jesus and HIS way.
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate. Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:10-31

ch. 4 seeking saviors excerpt
Insight, my arse, Merlin thought with a mental roll of his eyes. Lancelot had nothing new to add to their growing list of details. Gaius was no closer to finding out the nature of the beast; after Merlin told him what he saw he’d simply shaken his head and said he knew nothing of it.
“It must be a truly ancient and rare creature, for I’ve never laid eyes upon one nor heard of anyone who has,” he’d told Merlin.
Half-lion, half-eagle, it was a most fearsome beast. It flew like a bird, but possessed a lion’s tail and body. Merlin really had to question who’s idea that was. As though lions weren’t terrifying enough! Magic really had outdone itself.
“So, you’ve really no idea?” Arthur asked, looking harried.
“No, sire. I will consult with Geoffrey, of course. If anyone knows, it would be him.”
Arthur nodded and sighed. Suddenly, he appeared very tired.
Gaius noticed as well because he said, “I think it would be wise for you to take some rest. You’ve done your duty in informing me. Geoffrey and I shall handle it until the king’s return.”
Arthur had not even protested, not a single quip thrown out; he nodded once more and turned to leave without another word. Perhaps it was exhaustion making him act so. Or perhaps he simply listens to Gaius better than me, Merlin thought bitterly.
Before he took a step down, he paused and turned to stare at Merlin.
“Aren’t you coming?” Arthur asked with an imperious brow.
“I can’t! I’ve got him to look after,” Merlin replied, pointing at Lancelot.
Arthur did not seem convinced.
“Oh, there’s no need, Merlin. Truly, if you have other responsibilities…” Lancelot trailed off when hit with Merlin’s glare.
“See? He’s fine.”
“Come now, you know I am indebted to him. I’m not just doing it to be lazy.” He was absolutely doing it to be lazy. He thought for a second to invoke Gaius’s expertise, but something told him the old man wouldn’t be on his side. He did have his own penchant for mischief.
“Everything you do is to be lazy,” came the reply, but it was spoken with barely any feeling, a rote response.
Before Merlin could say much more the prince muttered out, “Fine.” He spun back around and stomped down the stairs. He heard the creaking hinges of a door swinging open and then the tell-tale thump of a wooden door slam shut.
The silence that lingered seemed overpowering. Gaius barely blinked at the display, likely used to the tantrums.
“I trust you have Lancelot’s care in hand?”
“Yes, Gaius. Go on, do your courtly duties.”
Gaius left them to it, but not without a sigh. How glad Merlin was to not be in the man’s position; he’d much rather deal with Arthur than with that father of his.
“Who was that man?” asked Lancelot, sounding a bit lost. Merlin thought he meant Gaius and wondered if he’d hit his head harder than thought before, but then he realized Lancelot must be speaking of Arthur.
Merlin wasn’t surprised that Lancelot hadn’t recognized the prince. He was clearly not of Camelot, what with his accent. But then, even the native city dwellers might have trouble recognizing their prince. They rarely got to see him up close, usually he was up on a podium somewhere or he was marching through in armor with some knights, looking no different from them.
They had notions, of course. Ideas. Merlin had the misfortune to eavesdrop on some of these discussions of silken golden strands and glistening eyes as blue as the sky. Merlin never failed to beg the gods’ forgiveness for his fellow man’s folly. Honestly, the maids of Lower Town made him out to be some sort of magical story hero rather than a man. They would surely change their tune if they ever had to smell the man’s socks or change his bedsheets.
Never meet your heroes, Merlin thought. And hero he was. A gleaming knight, armor shining with the light of the sun. Arthur, the protector of the commonfolk against the tyranny of magic. Son of a notorious magic-hating king who executes any who even so much as breathes in a suspiciously magical way. A hero, aye, but not for Merlin. He is meant to be my villain, but for this prophecy… Not for the first time, Merlin wondered what he would have felt were he not bound in such a way. Would Arthur be just another foe?
“Merlin?”
“Hm? Oh him? It’s just Arthur. Bit of a prat, as you’ve seen.”
“Arthur…that does sound familiar…” Lancelot muttered to himself. “Arthur, he’s…!” His eyes went wide with realization and Merlin could not help his amusement. He grinned.
“He is,” Merlin replied.
“I thought he was some lord’s son! But I’ve been speaking to a prince!”
“Not a prince. The prince.”
Lancelot looked ready to clutch pearls he did not have. He turned away from Merlin to look out the door at the room below as though to catch another glimpse. He looked without seeing, mind drifting away.
“Merlin,” Lancelot suddenly spoke, “do you know why I journeyed here?”
He didn’t think Lancelot expected an answer.
“My dream is to become a knight. It’s been my one goal since I was a boy. Here, in Camelot, is where I hope to make it true. I’ve heard of the prince of this kingdom, of his fighting prowess. But more so of his virtue, his willingness to fight for the smallfolk. A man like that, he’s worth fighting for.”
“You haven’t had a change of heart?” Merlin asked, genuinely curious.
Lancelot startled as though surprised at hearing another person speak. Had he forgotten Merlin was also in the room? Had he been so lost in thought?
“Change of heart? No, quite the opposite. He promised me a sword.”
“That he did.” Yes, it was the least that could be done, but then Arthur had no reason for it. Protecting a manservant? What’s that worth? Any other would’ve shrugged it off, maybe repaid the kindness with some coin or a fine meal. A sword was another matter. That took precious time to forge, worked over and over until perfection. Not just anyone got a sword.
“I suppose for all his many faults, Arthur can be quite honorable, too.” It’s the smallest concession he would make and even so it was difficult. At least Lancelot was a stranger. “And I suppose he’s not that bad of a fighter.”
Merlin saw a small uptick of Lancelot’s lips. Dare he call it a smirk?
“Did you pull a muscle trying to get that out?” he asked.
Merlin immediately relaxed. “I’m sure Gaius has got something for it.”
The man gave out a snort, but it wasn’t an indelicate sound. Though in simple garb, he was handsome and with manners quite well. Well enough for this place, anyway. He clearly had a good sense of humor about him. He was brave and good-natured, a man who was kindhearted but not a road to easily walk upon. Yes, thought Merlin, this was a knight.
He could not help but wonder at who he truly was. A knight he wished to be; was he from some minor house? Or was he but a commoner? But then where did his own broken sword come from? Did he steal it? Merlin was not one to judge; if he took it from some high-horsed lord, who was Merlin to complain? Lancelot did not seem the sort, though. He did not look like a thief or sell-sword. He is quite perfect and I know no man is such.
What are you hiding, sir knight?

The Disir
Oh Merlin, you just killed Arthur. You signed his death sentence. I’m in tears. This season is like watching an execution. Merlin, why must you be like this?
When Arthur was given the rune mark, he asked why he would need to be judged at all - because he was a fair King. Why didn’t you just tell him the truth? That it was because he banned magic? Why did you stay silent and play dumb? Wasn’t the goal always to save Arthur so magic would be permitted in Camelot again? Along the way you forgot what your destiny was. It is not to save Arthur because he’s Arthur, your best friend, but to save King Arthur so he can unite Albion and return magic to the Kingdom. Oh Merlin... When Arthur asked if he should reject his father’s ways and embrace magic, why did you stay silent? Why did you sign Arthur’s death sentence by condemning magic when he was willing to accept it? It pained you so much yet you did it for Arthur, so Mordred would die. But Arthur’s fate and the destruction of Camelot rested on that decision. You listened to the dragon over the Disir. They are above the dragon. They spelled it out for you plainly that great suffering awaited Camelot and Arthur should he refuse to embrace the Old Ways. That was your purpose, Merlin. To get Arthur to embrace the Old Religion again.
I’m not even sure I want the Old Religion back, because I don’t trust religion - I believe magic shouldn’t be outlawed, but it should be carefully monitored. If the Old Religion reigned again, what would it mean? But, then, Arthur’s fate was already decided by the Old Religion so it made little difference. He and Camelot were already its subjects, whether Arthur accepted it or not.
Merlin... my heart broke for Arthur and you. You killed him. It was you.
Arthur showed willingness to save a druid’s life and embrace the old religion, and you condemned him to die. All because you wanted to save him more than you wanted to fulfill your destiny. You loved him to death, quite literally.
I can’t stand this season. The episodes are depressing, the atmosphere heavy, and most attempts at humor fall flat. Arthur and Merlin are different now, Gwen too - all the characters feel like ghosts of their former selves. Gwen’s always been Arthur’s cheerleader, but she’s too wise to tell him to ignore the rune mark and the druid’s words. She knows better. She and Merlin are always trying to make Arthur feel better in their own ways, even when they believe he is wrong. Gwen’s relationship with magic is complicated, because she knows less about it than Arthur, but grew up being weary of it and saw what magic did to Camelot. Still, I thought she was more open-minded to magic, though she was never its advocate.
I find Merlin and Gwen so similar. The more they love Arthur, and the closer they are to him, the more they defer to him and shelter him from their own opinions, fears, suspicions. He needs strong counsel, but they care too much to be objective. Arthur’s own attempts at being objective and true to himself are thwarted by them. He listened to Gaius and Merlin about the rune mark, because he trusts druids to a certain extent and couldn’t stand not knowing what Camelot’s fate or what his perceived flaws were - he was following his instincts, ignoring Gwen’s appeal to “reason”  - but he also listened to Merlin when he told him not to embrace magic, when Arthur’s heart was urging him to accept the Disir’s terms. Arthur must follow his heart. That is always true about Arthur, even if it fails him sometimes, and what Gwen, and Merlin, always told him to do. Every time Arthur does the right thing, it is because he follows his heart. This time, Merlin told him not to and it backfired. Arthur didn’t listen to Gwen when she told him not to take Mordred with him, because his heart told him the boy deserved a chance, and his life was saved because of it. But Merlin would’ve saved him anyway, so he should’ve listened to Gwen and Merlin, and Mordred wouldn’t have been in danger... It’s complicated... Merlin usually steers Arthur in the right direction, except when he tries to protect Arthur from himself, like when he stopped Arthur from killing Uther and seeing the truth about him, or in this episode. Arthur must follow his heart... Gwen’s advice is usually solid too. The Disir wouldn’t have killed Arthur... Mordred should’ve stayed away...
I’m starting to think Merlin’s advice isn’t very helpful in the great scheme of things... When Arthur asks for an opinion, he either already has the answer and can’t be swayed (eg. about trusting Agravaine or breaking off his engagements), or is talked into doing the wrong thing. When he acts correctly, it’s usually because he was already inclined to do so. This is why Merlin and Arthur are so tragic. Merlin saves Arthur’s life and gives him valuable counsel, but Arthur ignores Merlin half the time and the one time time he listens... Arthur was inclined to listen to Merlin because it is what he wanted to hear. That is Arthur’s weakness: he didn’t want to undo his father’s work and he was afraid of making a rash decision. His heart told him the life of one person was worth the risk, and the one time he didn’t follow that instinct...
Arthur and Merlin are so tragic. I swear, when Merlin told Arthur there was no place for magic in Camelot, my heart broke and I started crying. I cried for Arthur, because he’s going to die, and, for Merlin, because he broke his own heart saying that and killed his own best friend without knowing it... Colin’s acting was so good, ugh.
Merlin is both Arthur’s salvation and destruction. He is Arthur’s bane. They are so tragic. I’m starting to get why people ship them. It’s not because of Arthur exactly, it must be because of Merlin. I’m starting to feel the weight of his unrequited love, romantic or not. Arthur has no idea how much Merlin loves him. And he doesn’t love him back with nearly the same intensity...
Back to Gwen for a second, when she repeated Arthur’s words about the druid back to him, Arthur was able to hear how unconvincing his own line of thought was. So I guess Gwen helped him follow his heart as always? But she wouldn’t have said that. She’s too cautious... Would she have told Arthur to embrace the old religion? She didn’t care for Uther, only for Camelot, and the Disir said Arthur and Camelot’s one chance of salvation - not just Mordred’s - was to embrace the Old Religion. She would’ve told Arthur to do it, perhaps, but if she didn’t trust the Disir, she would’ve also told Arthur to not put the fate of Camelot in the hands of one boy alone. Ultimately, she would’ve told Arthur that he was more needed in Camelot than Mordred. She’s ignorant about magic. What she have been convinced of the Disir’s words? And would Arthur really have embraced the old religion? He was willing to do it for Uther, but probably not for Mordred, though his “heart” was urging him to. I guess he did what he wanted to do anyway. Merlin probably wouldn’t have changed his mind either way.

In the midst of the cosmos, amidst swirling galaxies and nebulous clouds, stood a figure cloaked in light, an ethereal being known across the stars as The Celestial. In the darkness of space, she was the beacon, the guide for all who journeyed through the void. Her robes, white as the core of the brightest star, flowed about her like the arms of nebulae. In her wake, particles of stardust shimmered, and celestial bodies aligned to her will.
One could not gaze upon The Celestial without feeling the immense power she wielded—power she had obtained from the convergence of countless worlds, the knowledge of a thousand civilizations, and the essence of the universe itself. Her presence was an ancient one, as old as time, known to the few who had dared to venture into the unknown reaches of space.
Among these few was Gaius Julius Avitus Alexianus, a starfarer from a distant planet, whose ship, the "Aeternitas," had seen more galaxies than most could name. Gaius, with eyes like the endless void, had sought The Celestial, guided by prophecies etched in the ruins of a long-forgotten race. It was said that The Celestial held the key to understanding the fabric of existence and that she alone could grant the wisdom to harness the energy of the cosmos.
His journey was arduous, taking him across black holes and supernovas, through the whispers of cosmic winds, and alongside the silent songs of comets. But Gaius was determined, for his planet was dying—a slow, withering death caused by a sickness no science could cure.
When he finally found her, The Celestial knew of his quest without words. She, who had seen civilizations rise and fall, who had watched the birth and death of stars, recognized the noble heart of Gaius Julius Avitus Alexianus.
With a gesture, she summoned a disk of pure light that spun with the symphony of the universe. From this disk, a fragment detached, descending toward Gaius like a falling star. It was a crystal imbued with the essence of life itself, the heart of a star long extinct, its energy pristine and raw.
The Celestial spoke then, her voice echoing like a choir of light, "Gaius Julius Avitus Alexianus, you have traversed the dark sea of the cosmos to find hope for your people. Take this star-heart to your world. Let it be the beacon that cures the sickness, that brings life where there was decay. But know this—its power is boundless, and with it, you must shape a future not just for your own, but for all life that dances in the vastness of space."
Gaius bowed deeply, a mix of reverence and awe written upon his face. "I am but a starfarer, Celestial," he replied, his voice firm yet humbled. "But I will carry your gift with honor, and I vow to use it wisely, for the betterment of all."
And with that, Gaius Julius Avitus Alexianus, the humble starfarer, turned his ship homeward, the star-heart secured within the "Aeternitas," its light a symbol of the new era that was to come—an era of healing, of unity, and of a journey shared amongst the myriad forms of life that the universe nurtured in its boundless embrace.

Make your wellness a priority! PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit. PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY Receive the Anointing to Enjoy Divine Health and Prosper in Your Spirit, Soul and Body, in The Name of Jesus.
MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 12TH JANUARY 2024
Today, we shall round off our discourse on how to do things differently and have a great year. Beloved, you must not neglect your health and wellness. You need them to enjoy your marriage, finances, ministry, etc. When last did you do a medical check-up? Self-medication, unhealthy and poor eating habits must stop. No matter how busy you are, create room for exercise. Find time to jog or walk. You need at least 6-8 hours of sound sleep. Whatever it takes, get it. Refrain from the habit of relying on sleep- inducing drugs to get sleep. Get spiritual and medical help to overcome insomnia. Avoid stress, worry and anxiety. Ensure you achieve work-life balance. Go for vacation annually and spend it wisely to get some rest so that you return to work truly refreshed. I advise you to also avoid overworking and stress. Focus on achieving physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellness. Your body, soul and spirit must be in sound shape for you to perform optimally in career, business and ministry. The Bible says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth (3 John 2). In addition, embrace personal development and make it a priority to produce a better version of yourself with the help of the Holy Spirit this year. This will take wisdom, self-discipline, determination, planning and goal setting, etc. I counsel you to put God first in all your affairs. Make Jesus your Lord and Saviour and serve Him wholeheartedly. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and every other thing shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). Be highly organised this year and use your time wisely. Time is the currency of life. Engage in activities that will bring improvement to your life and destiny as well as help you to spend your eternity in heaven. Get a mentor who is godly and has the kind of values that you are proud of. Good mentors are often great blessings to the lives of their mentees. Finally, give generously to God and give back to the society. The Lord will help you. in Jesus’ name.

Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones. If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours? No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him. And he said to them, “You justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts; for what is of human esteem is an abomination in the sight of God.”

Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

“In this way, your life story confirms the life story of the Anointed One”
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 1st chapter of the letter of 1st Corinthians:
Paul, called out by God’s will to be an emissary for Jesus the Anointed, along with brother Sosthenes, to God’s church gathering in the city of Corinth. As people who are united with Jesus, the Anointed One, you have been set apart for service. You are all called into community to live as saints with all who invoke the name of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed
I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, will shower you with grace and peace.
I am continuously thanking my God for you when I think about the grace God has offered you in Jesus the Anointed. In this grace, God is enriching every aspect of your lives by gifting you with the right words to say and everything you need to know. In this way, your life story confirms the life story of the Anointed One, so you are not ill-equipped or slighted on any necessary gifts as you patiently anticipate the day when our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, is revealed. Until that final day, He will preserve you; and on that day, He will consider you faultless. Count on this: God is faithful and in His faithfulness called you out into an intimate relationship with His Son, our Lord Jesus the Anointed.
My brothers and sisters, I urge you by the name of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed, to come together in agreement. Do not allow anything or anyone to create division among you. Instead, be restored, completely fastened together with one mind and shared judgment. I have heard troubling reports from Chloe’s people that you, my siblings, are consumed by fighting and petty disagreements. What I have heard is that each of you is taking sides, saying, “I am with Paul,” or “I am with Apollos,” or “I am with Cephas,” or “I am with the Anointed One.” Has the Anointed One been split up into many small pieces? Do you think Paul was crucified for you? Were you ceremonially washed through baptism into the name of Paul? Absolutely not!
Now I am thankful that I baptized only Crispus and Gaius, so none of you can falsely declare you were baptized in my name. Now wait, as I think about it, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; if there are others in your community whom I baptized, I cannot recall at this moment. The mission given to me by the Anointed One is not about baptism, but about preaching good news. The point is not to impress others by spinning an eloquent, intellectual argument; that type of rhetorical showboating would only nullify the cross of the Anointed.
For people who are stumbling toward ruin, the message of the cross is nothing but a tall tale for fools by a fool. But for those of us who are already experiencing the reality of being rescued and made right, it is nothing short of God’s power. This is why the Scripture says:
I will put an end to the wisdom of the so-called wise,
and I will invalidate the insight of your so-called experts.
So now, where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the skilled debater, the best of your time? Step up, if you dare. Hasn’t God made fools out of those who count on the wisdom of this rebellious, broken world? For in God’s deep wisdom, He made it so that the world could not even begin to comprehend Him through its own style of wisdom; in fact, God took immense pleasure in rescuing people of faith through the foolishness of the message we preach. It seems the Jews are always asking for signs and the Greeks are always on the prowl for wisdom. But we tell a different story. We proclaim a crucified Jesus, God’s Anointed. For Jews this is scandalous, for outsiders this is moronic, but for those of us living out God’s call—regardless of our Jewish or Greek heritage—we know the Anointed embodies God’s dynamic power and God’s deep wisdom. You can count on this: God’s foolishness will always be wiser than mere human wisdom, and God’s weakness will always be stronger than mere human strength.
Look carefully at your call, brothers and sisters. By human standards, not many of you are deemed to be wise. Not many are considered powerful. Not many of you come from royalty, right? But celebrate this: God selected the world’s foolish to bring shame upon those who think they are wise; likewise, He selected the world’s weak to bring disgrace upon those who think they are strong. God selected the common and the castoff, whatever lacks status, so He could invalidate the claims of those who think those things are significant. So it makes no sense for any person to boast in God’s presence. Instead, credit God with your new situation: you are united with Jesus the Anointed. He is God’s wisdom for us and more. He is our righteousness and holiness and redemption. As the Scripture says: “If someone wants to boast, he should boast in the Lord.”
The Letter of 1st Corinthians, Chapter 1 (The Voice)
A note from The Voice translation:
Paul knows that if the work of Jesus’ gospel degenerates into a cult of personality, it will hardly resemble true Christianity. If the focus is on Paul, Cephas, Apollos, or any famous religious leader, then that distracts from the person and central message of Jesus. Any cult of personality is intoxicating, and it is often easier to claim to follow a person who can be seen and touched. But Christianity is founded upon the belief that Jesus is the head of the church and that all of His followers serve His will as a part of the royal priesthood.
The cross challenges human values because no one expects to find freedom through capital punishment. Unlike most of the thousands who faced crucifixion before and after Jesus, He was clearly not a criminal. God uses this contradiction to reveal His power and wisdom: Jesus has offered Himself to death and has been raised to life to bring liberation to others. Those who truly follow this crucified king do not seek power and authority through the normal patterns of the world; they offer themselves in loving sacrifice for others. That is where God’s transforming power is truly revealed in the church.
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 2nd chapter of the book of Jeremiah:
The word of the Eternal came to me again.
Eternal One: Go now, and say this loud enough for all Jerusalem to hear. Tell them that the Eternal speaks these words:
“I still remember the way you clung to Me in your youth, in the early days of our union.
Like a young bride, you loved the vows you made.
As I led you from slavery in Egypt to your freedom in Canaan, you drew close to Me.
Even in the barren wilderness along the way, I filled your every need.
In those days, you, Israel, were set apart for Me, the Eternal.
You were like the first portions of the harvest—devoted and true.
All who defied this arrangement and ate My portion for themselves were guilty,
and evil rained down upon them.”
Listen to the very word of the Eternal, house of Jacob and all the clans of Israel!
Eternal One: What happened between us?
What could I have done to your ancestors that was so wrong, so unfair?
Why would they pull away from Me
to pursue the empty worship of idols that has left them just as empty?
They didn’t think to say, “Where is the Eternal who rescued us from slavery in Egypt?
Where is the One who led us through the wilderness—a land of deserts and ravines?”
No one seems to remember how they crossed a scorched and lifeless land,
a darkness none had ever crossed before, a place where none survive.
I am the One who delivered you into this land of abundance
to enjoy its fruits and many good things.
But you have now taken the very land I gave you and defiled it.
You have done a most disgusting thing with this gift I reserved only for you.
Even then, the priests didn’t think to say, “Where is the Eternal One?”
Those who understand and teach the law act as if they’ve never known Me.
The rulers also have moved against Me.
Even the so-called prophets spoke in the name of Baal
and pursued worthless idols in their vain attempt for greater prosperity.
This is the case that I bring against you and your descendants:
You can search from the coastlands of Kittim in the west
to the deserts of Kedar in the east, and you won’t find anything as sickening as this.
Has a nation ever exchanged its gods for some others,
even if they weren’t really gods in the first place?
But My beloved people have done just that: they have exchanged their glory
to pursue worthless idols in their vain attempt for greater prosperity.
Be horrified, O you heavens, at this appalling betrayal.
Cringe in horror and be repulsed.
My people are guilty of two evils:
They have abandoned Me, the spring of living waters;
And instead, they have settled for dead and stagnant water
from cracked, leaky cisterns of their own making.
Is Israel some common slave, born into bondage?
Why has he been carted off as if he were the spoil of battle?
The nations have circled him like hungry young lions,
roaring and growling their war cries.
They have left Israel a wasteland—
the cities destroyed and the people scattered.
Even your Egyptian allies, from Memphis and Tahpanhes,
have stripped you of land and your crowning glory.
Is there anyone to blame but yourself?
Weren’t you the ones who abandoned the Eternal,
Your True God, even as He led you on this journey?
Eternal One: What do you hope to accomplish by going to Egypt
and drinking from the waters of the Nile?
What do you think you will gain by traveling to Assyria
and drinking from the waters of the Euphrates?
It is your wickedness that will punish you
and your desertion of My ways that will convict you.
See the evil and taste the bitterness of forsaking the one True God, the Eternal.
At the core of this evil is the sad truth that you have forgotten the wonder and terror of who I am.
So says the Eternal Lord, Commander of heavenly armies.
Eternal One (to His people): A long time ago, I broke the yoke that weighed you down
and tore off the chains that enslaved you;
Still you boldly said, “I will not serve You!”
Instead, you bowed down like a whore to pagan gods on the high hills, under every green tree.
I am the One who planted you like a select vine, chosen from vintage stock.
How could you turn into such a useless, wild weed of a vine?
You can scrub yourself with all the soap you want,
but you’ll never be able to wash away the stain of what you’ve done before Me.
So says the Eternal Lord.
Eternal One (to His people): How can you say, “I have not been defiled”?
How can you reply, “I have not run after the idols of Baal?”
You know exactly what you’ve done down in the valley—
you’re like a young camel running here and there without any direction.
You’ve acted like a wild donkey at home in that desert,
sniffing at the wind for any scent of the next encounter, unbridled in her lust.
It’s not even fair to say you were seduced by these gods.
You sought them out!
I warn you again: stop running after these rituals
till your feet are bare and your throat is dried out.
You said, “I can’t help myself, for I love these strange gods I am chasing after.”
Like a thief caught in the act, the people of Israel will be put to shame:
kings, leaders, priests, and prophets will be shamed.
They say to a piece of wood, “You are my father”;
they confess to a stone, “You gave me birth.”
They have shunned Me, who gave them life—turning their backs
instead of facing Me—
But that will change when troubles come.
That’s when they will cry out to Me, “Stand up for us, and save us!”
O Judah, where will your pagan gods be then?
You know, the ones you made yourself?
Let them stand up on their own.
See if they’re able to save you from your troubles.
You have as many gods as villages, Judah. Now let them take care of you.
Why are you leveling charges against Me?
You are the unfaithful one here.
You have all pulled away from Me.
I tried to discipline your sons, but it didn’t work; they wouldn’t listen.
You destroyed the prophets I sent to speak truth to you.
You devoured them as a lion does his prey.
People of this generation, consider again the word of the Eternal.
Eternal One: Have I been a barren wasteland to Israel with nothing to offer?
Am I no more than a land cloaked in darkness to them?
Why do My own people say to Me,
“We would rather wander where we want than come to You”?
Does a young woman ever forget her jewelry?
Does a bride forget to bring along her wedding dress?
And yet My people forgot Me long, long ago.
How good you’ve become at your reckless loving!
You could teach even a loose woman a thing or two.
The stain of the blood of the poor and the innocent is on your clothes
Even though you didn’t find them breaking into your houses.
In spite of it all,
Still you dare to say, “I am innocent;
surely God could not be angry with me anymore.”
Yet watch as I condemn you
because you perjure yourself saying, “I have not sinned.”
How do you keep changing directions,
making a covenant with Me, then a treaty with them?
You will soon be disappointed by the alliance with Egypt
just as you were by the one with Assyria.
You will leave this land as captives, with your hands on your head.
Why? Because I, the Eternal One, have rejected those you relied on.
You will never prosper from their help.
The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 2 (The Voice)
A note from The Voice translation:
With Jeremiah as God’s mouthpiece, the mighty oracles begin about a loving husband (God) divorcing his unfaithful wife (Judah).

A post by John Parsons
The cross reveals that God is willing to sacrifice everything for your blessing...
====
When considering the matter of “teshuvah” (i.e., returning to God), it is vital to understand that God does not love you based on your obedience, though his love for you will lead you to obedience... It is only after accepting that you are accepted despite yourself – despite your inherent inability to please God, despite your incurably sick heart, despite your disobedience, sin, and so on – it is only then that earnest, Spirit-enabled obedience may arise spontaneously within your heart (Rom. 2:4). In that sense “obedience” is like falling in love with someone. It is your love that moves you to act and to express your heart, and were you prevented from doing so, you would undoubtedly grieve over your loss... Therefore the “law of the Spirit of Life in Messiah” is first of all empowered by God’s grace and love. We walk by faith, hope, and love – these three. And this explains why the first step of teshuvah is to love God: Ve’ahavta et Adonai (Deut. 6:5). The work of faith is to believe in the miracle that God’s love is “for-you-love...” (John 6:29).
If you find yourself operating from a sense of God’s conditional acceptance, you will undoubtedly need to repeat the same sins over and over until your heart is finally convinced of its incurably wretched state. You must first be utterly sick of yourself to believe in the miracle of God’s deliverance. You have to be “sick of your sickness” and be willing to give it up. Only then will the message of find opportunity to speak...
It needs to be added, however, that genuine repentance implies an understanding that sin is dreaded because it separates us from God’s love. Some seem to think Yeshua died on the cross for their sins so that could live their lives without regard for sin, but that is of course a perversion of the truth. Yeshua did not suffer, bleed out, and agonize upon the cross for our sins so that we’d be given license to disregard the God’s great cost to remedy our hearts... Indeed, by treating sin lightly we disparage the sacrificial work of Yeshua given on our behalf – we “crucify the Son of God afresh” and thereby deny God’s wrath for sin as well as his severe mercy given to those who trust in him (Heb. 6:4-9).
There is no Torah apart from the cross, just as there is no cross apart from the Torah...

from yesterday’s email by Israel 365:
So when you find yourself asking, “Where is God?” remember that you’re in the company of generations who’ve asked the same thing. Sometimes, the questioning itself, the struggle, is the answer. And maybe, just maybe, that’s where we find a sliver of enlightenment in the darkest night.
Today’s message (Days of Praise) from the Institute for Creation Research
September 2, 2023
Knowing Him
“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20)
John uses two words for “know” in this short letter, both of which are used in the final instruction to his readers. The Greek word ginosko is used 25 times throughout this epistle, stressing knowledge that is gained through personal experience. The other word, ei’do (or oi’da), is used an additional 17 times, emphasizing mental understanding and comprehension.
The Intellectual Confidence
We “know [ei’do] that he was manifested to take away our sins” (1 John 3:5). We “know that we have passed from death unto life” (1 John 3:14). We “know that [we] have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). We “know that we are of God” (1 John 5:19). We “know that the Son of God is come” (1 John 5:20). All of this “head knowledge” is, of course, straight from the Word of God. These are the basics of our belief in the work of Christ.
The Personal Experience
We “know [ginosko] that we know [ginosko] him, if we keep his commandments” (1 John 2:3). “There [are] many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time” (1 John 2:18). “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments” (1 John 5:2).
Thus, our intellectual “knowledge” of God’s Word is “experienced” as we “work out [our] own salvation” (Philippians 2:12). Being “born again” is just the beginning. We should “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). HMM III

Romans 16
(King James Version)
16 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.
7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
8 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord.
9 Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.
10 Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household.
11 Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord.
12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord.
13 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.
14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them.
15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.
16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
21 Timotheus my workfellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you.
22 I Tertius, who wrote this epistle, salute you in the Lord.
23 Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother.
24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen

Merlin rewatch -- S1E6: A Remedy to Cure All Ills
Gaius is the worst (part 2)
Now, About Gaius and Merlin's interaction.
Unlike the last episode, in which I also had some issues with Gaius but could still appreciate their father-son emotional moment, the scene before Gaius took off in this episode just irritated me to no end.
Merlin was saying how much Gaius had guided him and how much he still needed him. Did he though?? Gaius wasn't good at magic so he could only give Merlin books. That's why Merlin was so tempted by Edwin. As for the " right way of using magic", Gaius only taught him not to use magic unless it was necessary i.e. saving Arthur and Uther.
At the beginning of the episode, Gaius prohibited using magic to heal Morgana. He used the incident with Gwen's father as an example, but the situation was totally different. At the time the illness was caused by magic, everyone was ill, plus witch-hunting was active. This time it’s only Morgana and it’s a (seemingly) nonmagical illness, so Gaius could easily make up stories without causing suspicion.
That in itself is fine. I can see that it isn't good to do whatever you like because you have the power. There could also be risks of failure since Gaius didn't seem to know the cause of the illness.
But then at the end when Uther was under the same situation, Gaius half-forced Merlin to heal him! It was way more probable for Uther to be suspicious since he knew Edwin was a sorcerer now. Merlin said it. " We can't use magic on Uther. He'd kill us." And what did Gaius say to him?
" We don’t have a choice." (In fact, we have. We can let Uther die and take one step towards destiny. Also, Gwen just told you we always had a choice. So there's that. )
" There are times when it’s necessary.”(Necessary only for you because for some reason you love Uther so much.)
" It is your right" (What does that even mean?? He didn't have the right as far as the law was concerned. He didn't have the obligation either as far as destiny was concerned since it only told him to serve Arthur, who was almost nonexistent in this ep... )
I know he told the dragon that he thought it was too soon for Arthur to lead, but I didn't see any indication from previous episodes. I did, however, see a lot of indications of Gaius' devotion to Uther in this episode alone, so Gaius' words just seemed like selfish excuses.
I know that Gaius can be a grey character and Merlin can still love him, but since they (mostly Merlin) are our eyes to examine the moral in the show, Gaius is always regarded as a wise and good character. It's the most frustrating part.

BLOODY HANDS
Arthur Pendragon x f!OC
Tumblr media
Summary: Rabia came to Camelot with one objective, and that one objective only. Protect Merlin, yet that quickly proves to be a seemingly impossible task as that boy always finds some way to put himself in danger.
Words: 1.6k
next chapter ⎸ master list
Bloody Hands
part two: Finding the boy.
After staying at the beach for a few days, Rabia decided to make her way to the town to find a tavern or an inn to stay at. People were giving her all sorts of stares as she walked through the town. She knew she wasn't dressed the same way they dress around here.
Rabia's hometown is a lot more progressive when it comes to what is deemed appropriate since she's from an all-women elven village. People around the world still have no idea that elven people actually exist, but they do, even though they've been close to going extinct a few times. Rabia has been trained in combat from a very young age for this exact reason. Any weapon is deadly when put in the hands of Rabia or any woman in her hometown - which primarily is why she's here. A woman from Ealdor sent a letter to the elven town, asking for them to send an elf to protect and keep an eye on her son Merlin, all Rabia has to do now is actually figure out who Merlin is, which could prove to be a tough challenge. Camelot is a lot bigger than the young woman had originally thought.
As Rabia walked around the town, doing her best to ignore the looks she was getting she stumbled upon a tavern, hidden nicely in an alleyway that leads to the town's center. "Good morning!", she says, announcing her presence to the elderly man behind the bar. The man looks like he's been through hell and back - a traveler. The tavern is currently empty, but that's because everyone in town is out tending to animals and farms. "Your finest room, please.", the tone in her voice is joking, there obviously isn't a fine room in this tavern. This is the rundown side of the town, the part of the town that's hidden away in alleyways, shops that don't get the same attention, love, and care as all the over shops.
"Never did I ever think I'd see an elf in my tavern.", he says, catching Rabia by surprise. As she opens her mouth about to deny it, he cuts her sentence short. "Oh don't worry, as a magician your secret is safe with me. We gotta stick together.", till now Rabia didn't know how the town felt about magic, but apparently not well at all. In fact, any sort of magic had been banned by the king long ago.
"How many are there around here? Warlocks and witches I mean."
The elderly man shrugs. No one could ever know for sure how many magicians truly lived in Camelot. Even a man as wise as Alvaro could never know with certainty. "Now, about that room; follow me, please.", Rabia did as told, following Alvaro up a few sets of stairs, leading her to a small room at the end of a hallway. Inside the room, there's a window pointing towards the center of the town. "That window, right up there.", the elderly man says, walking to the window, and pointing towards one of the castle windows. "That right there is Gaius' chambers, he's the court physician. You'll find what you came for if you go to him."
The young woman was beyond confused. How did he know her intentions of coming to Camelot? "How?", she didn't really need to ask, he's a warlock so however, he did it, he'd already found out what Rabia's purpose of coming here was. "Actually, never mind, I'd just have to take your word for it. So before I go - how much do I owe you for the room".
"Not a dime. Like I said; we've ought to stick together. Now go on."
Tumblr media
Rabia's shoes clicked against the ground as she made her way up the stairs leading toward Gaius' chambers. Her small, rough, yet feminine hands knocked on the wooden door - when getting no reply she decided to just walk in. A wonderfully messy room meets the woman's eyes. "All this equipment.", she whispers to herself as she takes in everything around her carefully. Rabia lightly runs her fingertips over a few books before she stops at one of them. A magic book - laying out in the open. How careless could he be?
The young woman's head snaps towards the door as it's opened. She quickly hides the book behind her back. "Who are you? And what might you be doing in here alone?", it's a young boy who immediately makes Rabia's eyes widen. Merlin. Rabia and the other women in her hometown are all prime protectors. Anyone with knowledge of her people and village knows that there are no one better to recruit.
"Um... I was, as a matter of fact, looking for Gaius."
Merlin steps closer to the woman, closing the door behind himself. "Yeah? Well to me it would look as though you're stealing. Now answer me truthfully or I'll have no choice but to call for the guards."
Rabia let out a sigh, putting the book back down on the table. She didn't need it, she just had to be sure that whoever entered was someone with the power of magic. "I wasn't stealing, I swear, I was making sure no one came in and saw a magic book laying around."
"You can read that? The stuff in the book.", Rabia nodded, taking Merlin by surprise. "I guess that's all fine and dandy, but who are you?"
"My name is Rabia, I came to Camelot to look for Gaius, he's a legend and I want to work for him.", the young woman lies. Merlin can not know that she's actually here to take care of him for his mother. "So, where might he be?"
In all honestly; Merlin had no idea. Gaius was usually in his chambers, but not today apparently. "He should be back soon.", the boy sounded unsure and quite confused, yet Rabia still took his word for it. At least she now had a reason to spend time with and get to know the young warlock. "You can wait here.", Merlin wanted to get to know more about Rabia. It wasn't ofter he came by a real witch - or what he thought to be a witch.
"So-"
Before the woman even had a chance to talk, she was interrupted by the door yet again being opened. Merlin quickly pushed the magic book, along with a few others, off the bench and onto the ground. "Merlin! Where have you been? I've- oh.", Arthur hadn't expected to ever see the young maiden again after she'd upped and left the beach, but here she was, standing in front of him in her revealing black dress. Around her waist hung a scabbard, containing a beautiful sword with flowers carved into the side. "Sorry, Merlin, I didn't expect you to have company."
"He didn't expect it either - Rabia Thunder, herbalist. I've come to Camelot to hopefully work for Gaius.", her words take both of the boys by surprise.
"He's already got me."
"Yeah? Well, I guess I've traveled this far for nothing, what a shame."
"NO!", both of the boys exclaim in unison, making the woman chuckle. Arthur had just noticed her a few days ago and she'd already managed to become the one thing on his mind, the fact that she was standing right there was enough to pique his interest enough to not be able to let her get out of his sight. "Erm... I bet Gaius could use another assistant, the one he has now is highly stupid."
Merlin shoots the young knight a wide-eyed look. "What did you come here for anyways, Arthur? If you came to insult me-"
"I didn't actually. My armor needs shining.", Merlin sighs before excusing himself and leaving the room. Arthur says behind for once - odd, he usually never stays in Gaius chambers when Merlin leaves, but as a knight, he can't just let a stranger stay alone in here, what if she did something? At least that's what he told himself. "So Rabia, why would you wanna work for Gaius? And at my father's kingdom at that."
Rabia shrugs. She had heard about a physician in Camelot who helped the birth of Arthur the great, but never would she ever have known that he was Gaius till now. "He's quite a legend, you know? It's been a life dream of mine to work for a man like him."
Arthur doesn't buy the young woman's story. No herbalist needs a sword like that, or the bow and quiver hanging on her back either. "And the weapons? I'm surprised the guards even let you up here with all of that. And I'm afraid I'll even have to confiscate  them till I know you're not here with ill intentions."
"Are you kidding? If I wanted to kill anyone here I would have done it already. You don't get this kind of sword if you aren't worthy of it.", the young woman protests, but Arthur's not having it. He's enjoying her fiery voice though. Arthur shrugs, holding his hand out to receive her belongings. "Fine! Don't lose them, they're important to me, got it?", Rabia got her first real sword when she turned thirteen and later got the flowers carved into it when she turned eighteen to celebrate her becoming an adult. The bow was one she got from her mother when she was just ten years old. Her mom thought it was important that she knew how to hunt, just in case she ever found herself out in a forest with nothing to eat and no village close.
"I wouldn't dream of it."'

A Prosperous Man Of God
By Boyd Bailey, Jun 3, 2022
“A prosperous soul is secured by faith in Jesus Christ and rooted in the truth of God.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 3, 2022
The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth: Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. 3 John 1:1-3, NKJV
What does it mean to prosper? The short answer is to be successful in the ways of God. His ways are not always your ways, so it’s wise to gain a heart of understanding and wisdom into the mind of Christ and He will show you what prosperity looks like for you. The prosperous are successful in experiencing life that is truly life—abundant life in Christ. Prosperity does not guarantee financial riches, in fact, it may very well mean you decrease your focus on making money and increase your focus on giving money away. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about taking but giving, not being served but serving. As you follow Jesus you will prosper in what matters most—service in His kingdom. The Lord’s will for you is to prosper in all things, so get ready!
The beloved disciple John describes prosperity in all things, and to be healthy just as your soul prospers. He is writing to his friend Gauis in the context of John’s love for him as he walks in the truth. He prays for his beloved’s prosperity of soul to directly contribute to his good physical health. The correlation of a healthy character that promotes clean living and in turn, can lead to good health. The testimony of friends who noticed Gauis’ prosperous life of truth caused John to celebrate! A prosperous soul is secured by faith in Jesus Christ and rooted in the truth of God.
“Blessed is the man. Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3).
Are you prospering in the ways of God or are you distracted by the ways of the world? Only to the degree you are prospering internally (spirit, mind, will, emotions) can you be trusted with external (wealth, opportunities, relationships) prosperity. Internal prosperity is ever learning and applying truth in joyful obedience to Jesus. There is a prosperous love exchange with the pure love of the Lord that elevates motivations and moves conversations into the deep and sublime. Pause and pray for yourself and others you love to prosper in soul, strength and truth for God.
When soul prosperity captures a communities’ imagination, joy and Kingdom outcomes erupt. But I must warn you. Be careful to very intentionally invest first in God’s Kingdom. If you fail to prosper in the Kingdom, you may grow affluent, but become relationally bankrupt in the process. You may have a self-curated image of success, but be mastered by unhealthy emotions i.e., shame, guilt, resentment. You may gain the whole world, but lose your soul in the process. A prosperous man of God seeks success in being a student of the Word, a faithful steward, an obedient beloved son and a lover of the Lord and people. Joy and truth are fruits of prosperity.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me the faith and heart to seek first your Kingdom and to grow a prosperous soul, through Christ’s love, and in His name I pray, amen.
Application
How can I replace any striving for money with prayer and investment in God’s Kingdom?

Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes, To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,
