The Siege of Cusco in 1536-7
The two sieges of Cusco in 1536-7 were the last great military actions by the Incas as they tried to reclaim their empire from the Spanish conquistadors led by Francisco Pizarro (c. 1478-1541). The European cavalry proved all but invincible, and the city held out until reinforcements arrived from across the Americas.

Happy #SeptemberEquinox! Each year in the #IncaEmpire, when the rainy season started, the Inca celebrated Coya Raymi (meaning festival of the empress). This festival honoured the empress (the coya) & Killa, the moon goddess. The mummies of previous emperors and empresses were paraded through the streets and given offerings. #onthisday #inca #coyaraymi #22september More info: books2read.com/idie https://www.instagram.com/p/CUHgUBOgmbb/?utm_medium=tumblr

I think it’s important to know where things we practice today originate from. As I feel the term appropriation has been used in the yoga world, as healers/ people using these sacred rituals we can make an effort to know where the practices we use today began. This very topic came up in a conversation with a friend. We noticed there being a lack of credit or reference to the many “rituals” we have incorporated into our daily lives. It’s so mainstream we see energy clearing kits, box sets and such. I wondered why this essential information isn’t mainstream. Who is expressing where we got these rituals from. I follow @notoriouscree and I love his content and how he sheds light on his culture, we need more of this. Being an Afro-Ecuadorian woman I know so much of what I do, believe, and most importantly practice is 100% connected to my Caribbean/Incan ancestors. So I will honor them by shinning a light on not just what they gave to us but what other cultures gifted us as well. After this convo I realized that I had some digging to do as I didn’t have clear answers to my questions. I want to take this opportunity to learn and educate myself on the popular methods we use today. So I want to help shed light on this missing information or maybe its not missing and I just have overlooked it. BUT it is safe to say that adding more content about it won’t hurt. Let’s acknowledge these sacred practices and uplift those marginalized communities that don’t receive the credit we/they deserve. #native #rituals #nativepride #incan #carribean #afro #afrolatina #education #educateyourself #acension #ancestors #appropriation #southamerica #ecuador #inca #incaempire #africandescent #guides #alters #ayahuasca #palosanto #palosantowood #ancientwisdom (at West Hills) https://www.instagram.com/p/CK2ZRR0hVel/?igshid=10mvz2vv1ngb3

Though historians are yet to figure out the original purpose of this mountain fortress in Peru, Machu Picchu has nearly half a million visitors every year. Speculated to have been a temple, a settlement, and a royal estate during the Inca empire, this famous trail goes cold, keeping centuries of secrets between its dry-stone walls. The shroud of mystery is what draws hikers and tourists to climb many not-so-easy peaks of Peruvian Andes to get a feel of its unique terraces and stairways. #machupicchu #peru #southamerica #skytrails #incaempire #landes #skytrail (at Machu Picchu) https://www.instagram.com/p/B52bNS2gSQP/?igshid=1y22svfrp7riz
